I may be a little biased, but I love this place. They do have great food and a nice atmosphere. Especially if you love Forest Gump. Service has always been great. I love their bucket of Cajun Shrimp.

This restaurant is a very interesting place. I ordered the crab meat rolls. The rolls were alright, though not great. The shrimp scampi was very good. The restaurant had a Forrest Gump theme and atmosphere. It felt very tropical. Overall, this is a nice restaurant with good seafood.

The BEST chicken sandwich I have ever eaten!!!!! Next time I’ll know to have it with no cheese or bacon. The Bubba Gump sauce on the chicken sandwich took it to another level!!! The homemade Mac n cheese was phenomenal!!! My son added bacon bits to it for you 😋. All the servers were just G-R-E-A-T!!!!! They came to check up on me without having to flip the sign.

Even though this is a touristy chain restaurant, the food is good and tasty, service excellent and atmosphere excellent. If you are a fan of shrimp not a bad place to try. We have tried the locations, in Anaheim, San Francisco and Maui before it closed, but the Monterey location holds a special place in our hearts. During the day if you can grab a ocean view table, it's great to watch the otters in the seaweed and the boaters and kayakers on the bay as you eat and drink. On ocassion the surf and waves are rough and the ocean gives a spectacular show of waves battering the dining room. The food is on point. The clam chowder is good if not great in my humble opinion. Thick with lots of clams and potatoes. The house salad has lots of tomatoes and the dressing provided was not thin. For entrees we had the jambalaya, which was spicy, moist not dry, had good portions of chicken, sausage and shrimp. We also had our favorite a catchers net of a pound of shrimp, 1/2 pound of Cajun flavored the other half garlic shrimp. 😋. The alcohol drinks are expensive and gimmicky with free glasses to take home on specialty products. I learned from the bartender way back, that they are less alcohol, fruity sweet drinks, with a good profit margin for the restaurant. Inmo order a beer, house wine or well drink if you want to compliment your meal.

Honestly, after visiting Bubba Gumps in Santa Monica many years ago, we never planned to go back. But it was a confident option after a long day exploring Cannery Row, so we gave it a shot. I'm glad we did. We had pretty much no wait, and got to sit outside and enjoy the view and the ocean breeze. I wish I could recall his name, but we had the most fantastic and friendly waiter. He was tending us along with multiple big groups, so we had to wait a minute but that was okay. When he got to us he apologized and gave us a complimentary appetizer and comped our drinks. He went above and beyond to give us the best experience possible, even though he didn't need to. We really appreciated it. I loved the homemade-syle chips that came with the artichoke dip. I did wish it was a little cheesier. My salad was super fresh and crisp, and had some of the best strawberries Ive ever had! Would definitely visit this location again. Hope I get the chance.

A wonderful dinner. We came here with friends after hiking to satisfy our hunger. Service and food were good. I was here for the first time and I liked it. We didn't have to wait long for a table. Are you a Forrest Gump fan? If you are, I highly recommend this place! I tried their “I’m stuffed shrimp,” and it was absolutely delicious. What makes this place even more special is that it’s located on the coast and has unique “Forrest Gump” movie themes. It’s a must-visit for any fan of the movie and great food!

Wonderful experience - especially for those who love Forrest Gump. The place is really authentic, decorated with original movie props and other movie-related stuff. As we seen, it could be a bit crowded if you decide to try it at peak times - we went there a bit after the opening and it wasn't an issue. Their food selection is decent and of course their menu is full with shrimp and seafood meals. Those who doesn't love seafood can also find meals for themselves. My Shrimper's Heaven was the best shrimp and tempura experience what I've ever had. We are staying in town for a week and decided to check back on another day for another meal because we'd like to try more. Fantastic!

Steak with shrimps is always the best choice!!!! Jambalaya is very tasty too! Love this place The only thing that I’m not sure about- are cocktails, cause they all are too sweet for me. But that’s only my taste, other people liked cocktails!

Fast chain on the coastline. If you go there, look for a window seat, the view is amazing. Their child menu was really good, schnitzel and fries 🍟 are always the best choice for feeding a small kid, the size was enough for my 2 years old, for a bigger kid I'd consider adding an appetizer. Their salmon was really good, and the sandwich also. Their Halloween cocktails are really nice.

If you're around here, get a reservation or wait in line. On busy days it might take up to 2 hours, and on days like the one I'm writing this it only took a few minutes. The clam chowder was awsome, and the kid menu items come in little boats. 5/5, would recommend

It's been a long time since I've come to Bubba's and man did I miss this nostalgic place! Im always pleased with the food quantity and quality, and it always brings back memories for me, growing up watching Forest Gump with my dad. I will say, coming back is never a big disappointment although on this particular day, the service was not up to par. Wasn't terrible, but unfortunately for them, I don't leave great tips for McDonald's style service.

Bubba Gump is a restaurant inspired by the movie Forest Gump. I realized some younger adults and teenagers have not watched Forest Gump. 😕 The service was fast. The atmosphere was pleasant, and the food was good. I ordered the Shrimp New Orleans. The dish consist of rice and shrimp with a lemon flavored gravy. My daughter ordered the Jambalaya. My cousin ordered the Jenny. The food was delicious!

This was my second time to this Bubba Gump’s in Monterey. I went with a group of six and they were able to accommodate seating fairly quickly so there was a long wait. I had the jambalaya minus the shrimp which I’m allergic to and they are able to Substitute that out which I appreciated. The menu of course is fish and shrimp with some other options chicken steak, etc. a lot of people were getting the drinks which looked pretty tasty if you’re looking for a fun place just to go grab a bite in Monterey. This would be a good place to check out.

I ordered the Salmon and Shrimp in lobster herb butter. It was delishes but my salmon was over done. Still good but could have been better. I also ordered the Ceviche and it was amazing. Bubba Gump OMG the food was amazing! 🙌 We didn’t have to wait since we grabbed a table in the bar area, which worked out perfectly. I ordered the chicken and it was super tender, with mashed potatoes that were just fabulous. And let me tell you, the Dr Pepper float is a must-try! 🍹 Portions were huge, so I left with leftovers. The views are unbeatable oceanfront on a gorgeous, clear day. Honestly, hard to beat that. The only downfall? Only two stalls in the women’s restroom, so there was a bit of a line. Other than that, such a fun spot with great food and vibes!

This is a must visit place. We got a snack to go but will be eating in next visit!! We sat at the bar and got a order of hush puppies and an ICEE to go. We spent $13.48. The restaurant is super cool, lots to see, they have the Forest Gump movie playing on the TVs and that view of the ocean is so BEAUTIFUL!! Staff was so friendly, from the hostess to the bartender and the wait staff. Even though we were just getting a snack to go, they treated us as if we were dinning in. THANK YOU!!! This is an in-depth review, so buckle up. I'm just playing, I highly recommend this place! When you look into the history of why this building is here, you get a great feel of the scenery when walking in. The memorabilia from the movie is spot on! I went just yesterday for the first time with my husband, and we were greeted immediately with a smile. We waited maybe 10 minutes for our seat to be ready since it can be busy during such sunny days. They have indoor and outdoor seating and service in a timely manner. Our server was Jaime, and he did a fantastic job! 10/10 service, and very attentive to our needs. What did we eat? Calamari 7/10 (A little over-seasoned) Clam Chowder 6/10 (Seemed a bit pricey in a bowl) Shrimp Scampi 10/10 (Beautiful shrimp!!) Side of Hushpuppies 10/10 (No complaints!) Overall, we were satisfied with our visit and will be back again! In regards to other places in the area, the prices were so much more reasonable! Great service, great atmosphere, and great views of the water beneath.

Loved this places location, I sat at a table next to the window which was a beautiful view... I went in a group of 3, all of us being teens. It kind of felt like we were being profiled while we were there like they thought we were gonna dine and dash. I asked the server if we could sit at a table with ocean view and they said no even though there was a few open. That was a bummer. Food was really good I got the New England clam chowder. It’s a little on the thinner side but it was good. I love the places theme and location. My favorite place to eat In Monterey. Bummer with what happened though.

Food was really good and views were amazing, make sure to ask the host for a table by the window. My only complaint is that it took awhile for our food to come out, and at the end of the meal it look a long time to get the check and pay. Overall, worth it and will still probably go back.

We stopped in for lunch after a visit to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. We were greeted by what appeared to be the Manager who was nice and friendly. We were seated by the window so we could enjoy watching the seals, otters and dolphins play in the ocean while having lunch. Our server was Brandon and he was great. He was very knowledgeable about the menu and food choices. Since he doubled as the bartender he could also get your drinks out quick. He told us this location was the very first Bubba Gumps which was news to us. The food was tasty and priced reasonably. If you are in the area and looking for some good food swing in and see Brandon or as his name tag says Brandog!!

If you can't get them in the winter then don't have it on the menu. They both said the lettuce wasn't crisp either. Limp and old. My mashed potatoes were gummy and horrible. They had been sitting under the heat lamp too long and the top layer was hard. My son's sauces on his plate were the same way. The grandkids didn't eat their Mac and cheese. They both said it wasnt good. They eat Mac and cheese everywhere and aren't picky on that.

I wish they had more variety. I'm not a big fan of Cajun. I won't be going back.

Always a great spot to go, our waitress was so nice and helpful. I would suggest using the Opentable app to make a reservation before you go. A lot easier for big parties. Atmosphere was great, this is a photo from our table. Kid friendly.

Super cute themed restaurant. The food is straight forward and satisfying. The servers are really friendly. And the seaside view is beautiful. Update: we’re back a year later and just as satisfied as before. Maybe even more so considering how dog-friendly they are!

Bubba Gump is a themed chain restaurant that will be familiar to anyone who's visited other seaside cities. This was my first time at one as my fiancé thought it looked fun. The servers were really friendly and the prices are not bad for a themed restaurant in a touristy part of town - we paid $85 for one cocktail, an appetizer, and 2 entrees. The food was pretty solid and we liked everything alright. The inside is fun and should be enjoyable to fans of the movie, plus the ocean view is really nice. The line got long around 1PM so maybe aim for an early lunch if you're stopping.

Great food and cool Forrest Gump Atmosphere. Great place for a quick bite to eat for lunch or walking around the aquarium all day. Service was dissapointing especially because it was very slow. Took awhile to get seated and had to go find our servers for service after getting our food.

Great service, mixed food quality. We visited Bubba Gump with a large party and had a range of experiences. The service was excellent across the board. Multiple staff members helped and our server, Chantal, was great. She was patient, friendly, and attentive. Our full order came out correctly, but there were some minor issues with a few dishes. The Mahi Mahi and the shrimp and crab boil both tasted like the proteins had been cooked separately and then tossed in sauce. The Mahi Mahi itself was bland without the sauce (which was delicious), and the crab was dry and needed to be dipped in the sauce to add flavor. One order of fries came out cold, not even lukewarm. The ribeye was cooked as ordered but was very thin for a 12 oz cut, which made it a bit dry. The kid’s cheeseburger was dry and lacked flavor. The ribs were moist but could have used more sauce. Other food, the crab and shrimp sandwich, while good, was hard to hard to distinguish the protein. It could have passed as chicken. On a positive note, the fish and chips were excellent. Crispy, moist, and hot. The clam chowder was hot and flavorful. Overall, the service made the experience enjoyable, but food quality, while mostly delicious, it was inconsistent.

Tried it for the first time while stopping by Monterey for my mom, who is a seafood lover. Tried their clam chowder, seafood gump, surf and turf, and crab & shrimp handheld sandwich. The clam chowder was a less thick than what I am personally used to in the northeast. The seafood gulp was salty for my taste, but still tasty. Both main dishes were solid 4-star. Highly recommend their handheld sandwiches for the fresh filling with generous amount of clam and shrimp meat. The atmosphere was a bit too rowdy as there were many parties with young kids. Will definitely return to try other menus.

First of all Host are a key for a good first time experience. We visited this place for the first time because my husband is a big fan. Well to start the hostess had the most rude attitude with us. We ask for a window view because the restaurant barely opened and it was empty. She took us to our table which it was in a corner with a big wooden column covering the view we asked her can we seat to the one next so we can enjoy the view. She said with a snapy attitude "No, it is same" I said no is not the same "she gave us the most hateful look ever. We as a turist, We behave very nice with everyone and we don't expect this kind of attitude. So she already set the mood for the day! Not a good one. Second, it took a while to get our order in. Third, Half of our food was okay need it more flavor. The clamp chowder was really salty, my shrimps were over cooked and was dry and not well cleaned as well my husband food. Very disappointed for our first visit. We definitely are not going back. You can see the pictures of the empty tables from we were sitting. If you don't like crowds avoid this place. Get full really quick an extremely loud.

We always see Bubba Gump in these seaside tourist areas, but Monterey's is the first one we've dined at. It's about what you'd expect out of a character restaurant. The interior, decorations and merch are all fun if you enjoy Forrest Gump. The food is very okay. Drinks and specials have a nice presentation, but aren't anything to write home about. Service is decent and we never felt neglected. Overall, it wouldn't be our first choice, but might be worth going to if you need to seat a large group.

It shouldn't take so long just to get a glass of water. The food came before our drinks. Hubby had to ask again , and remind her what we were drinking. This is the kind of place where they yell and chant for birthdays We had gumbo and chowder, served nice and hot, tasted good, but still seemed overpriced.

What happened to Bubba Gumps! Where is the Gumps I knew. This is the Monterey location. Next to Castroville. The artichoke capital of the world. Yet they replaced the artichoke cheese dip in the Run Around America Sampler with a bland nacho cheese dip. It had a sprig of cilantro across it and a spoonful of salsa in the middle. Tostitos from a jar had more flavor, the hot buffalo chicken stricken strips are gone and replaced with a breaded chicken that was OK. Better at KFC or Wendy's. The bowl of gumbo came really dark with no flavor, the okra was mush, the shrimp was chewy and hard to eat. You could bounce the shrimp. I was told by a gumbo cook friend of mine that was definitely overcooked. The Mahi Mahi was the only good dish I could recommend. Bubba Gumps has their own hot sauce, and back in the day it was on the table. Not anymore. Now, they use a national brand. It is as if they don't have faith in their own hot sauce. The place is dedicated to the film Forrest Gump, yet the film wasn't even playing. They were showing SpongeBob Squarepants. What! It is hard to justify paying the high cost of dishes for the poor quality of what you get.

Unfortunately, the restaurant didn't meet our expectations. Our service staff was less than attentive, lacked basic etiquette, forgot requested items, and then gave us an incorrect bill. There was a turnover of wait staff while we were seated which inevitably resulted in a breakdown of communication from one shift to another. As far as the food was concerned, it was just okay. Everything is as one would expect in a chain restaurant, previously frozen, and without any significant uniqueness. You are essentially paying for a name and some decor.

The place was busy the Sunday evening we went. The timing of service suffered. We only asked for two waters and two mixed drinks, but they came just about when the food did. (Our drinks were the Lava Flow and Pomegranite punch. The punch fell really flat, I think their Sprite was not mixing well, but the Lava Flow was delicious.) At this point we realized there were no utensils and after waiting around a bit for our waitress, flagged someone down to get some. Then we realized the salad was missing its chicken and had to flag someone down again. I felt like we were bothering everyone at the restaurant at this point. I had ordered a fried chicken salad and a clam chowder. My wife got the bang bang shrimp with fried rice, which we both liked a lot. I've got to complain about that salad, though. At $18, I was expecting something nice. Sure, there was a service issue, and they had to bring another one that actually had chicken on it, but after waiting so long for my expensive salad, what was delivered was not impressive. I took a photo of it to share. They took what appears to be a single chicken tender and chopped it up on top. I'm from out of town, so I don't know if almost $20 for this is reasonable around here, but I expected either more chicken or a more premium piece of meat. Instead, it was a paltry amount and of the cheap blended kind. Tasty? Sure, what salad wouldn't be with a healthy dose of ranch dressing and bacon bits. The greens were all in good condition, and I enjoyed it overall, but that chicken for the price was not worth it. After the set of service issues, I wasn't sure if something went wrong with the second salad, too, so I asked a manager if it was prepared correctly before I dug in and mixed it up. According to her, this is exactly what is supposed to come. She told me they do something different. It's not just "one cheap chicken tender" as I was calling it, but my eyes can't see it any other way. This is the correctly prepared $18 fried chicken salad. In the end, they gave me the salad for free. Everyone was very nice and tried to overcome the service issues. I don't blame anyone and made sure to tip my waitress. It was just a busy day, I'm sure. But I am displeased with the value of that salad. They helped me out during that visit and I'll be back, but I'll be ordering something else for sure.

Unfortunately, I would advise people to not visit this restautant not on the weekend due to the majority of inexperienced highschool/undergraduate staff. Additionally, kids are often running around due to the ocean waves which ruin the experience. Overall, food was strong, but could be better and faster. This was mainly due to disorganization and I saw many people get re-asked their order

Food is okay as is service. But be aware waiters bluntly ask if you ‘want your change.’ For example, our total the other day was $105 and we gave two hundred bills and she asked “if we wanted our change.” A few months prior, we went while visiting Monterey and our total was $67. When we handed her a 100 dollar bill, she also asked if we wanted change. I think it’s absurd that they feel entitled to our money like this. I will not be going back.

Was in the area and stopped by for dinner. My wife made reservations online, which was convenient. The menu has changed since the last time I was here, and it seemed like there was less to choose from. The food was ok. My wife ordered an alcoholic beverage that had very little alcohol in it. The waitress was nice and brought her a new one. The staff worked hard and did a great job. The ocean view is nice. It's a fun place, but it is average, in my opinion.

Visually very impressive at first glance, with a fun and well-executed Forrest Gump movie theme and a beautifully decorated space. Unfortunately, the experience went downhill fast once the food arrived. The seafood boil was completely flavorless, and the seasoning tasted like it was sprinkled on after cooking rather than actually cooked into the dish. The dessert cake was dry and disappointing, and the ribs were so skinny and lacking meat that they were barely worth serving. The music was blaring and chaotic, making it almost impossible to enjoy the meal or even talk to the person sitting across from me. The only thing that was remotely enjoyable was the clam chowder, and that was only according to the person I was dining with. We spent well over $120, and I left feeling like I had wasted my money and my time. For a place with this much hype and aesthetic appeal, the food should at least be decent. Sadly, it was far from it. I won’t be returning.

I was not impressed at all. The food was very greasy. The fish was a thin slice of fish and tons of batter . The same with the calamari. If you want tons of fried batter I recommend this place.

The bread was good. They had to have the worst jambalaya I’ve had in my life. I’ve eaten it several times in New Orleans. I’ve eaten it in Santa Barbara, at a place called the palace. My ex-wife used to make it great. I was just shocked how about it was. My daughter ordered a pasta. That was absolutely terrible. I guess you have to know what to order at this place and I never liked the movie anyway so if you don’t like the movie, you better at least have good food.

Took my husband there for his birthday it was his first time going there. Once we got sat down we ordered the queso and chips, queso lacked flavor. For dinner I ordered the stuffed shrimp. I couldn’t even swallow it. I instantly spat it out. And my husband got the seafood platter. I told the waitress I couldn’t eat what I had ordered that it was absolutely disgusting and I told her I’ll just order a cheeseburger. My husband ate only part of his food and ran to the bathroom to start throwing up. While he was in the bathroom I informed the waitress of what’s going on and that I would just like to leave at this point and skip out on the burger because now I’m just grossed out. The waitress and the manager were very kind and understanding and apologetic. Other than the service everything was terrible and will never recommend this place to anyone. Definitely not what it once was.

We go to bubba gump everytime there is one near us. It’s usually one of our stops during our vacations. The Forest gump memorabilia always makes our day but this time, we were extremely disappointed. Our waitress, Monica, was very rude and ruined the whole experience. We came in excited and left as quietly and fast as possible. During our dinner, She tossed the menus around and had an attitude. She was not welcoming at all. (It was a breath of fresh air when Johnathan delivered our food instead). She seemed like the person who has probably been there for years and doesn’t like her job and is done with customer service. The food was okay, the usual dish I get wasn’t on the menu so I tried something new, the stuffed shrimp, and It was overall okay. My friend ordered a ceviche and didn’t like it. There was an odd spice in there that threw it off, tasted like rosemary. My other friend agreed that her dish was okay, she just had fried shrimp.

So extremely overpriced for what you get. Everything was bland. EVERYTHING! And the ranch was legit the thickness of water. It was white with no little dots of season. It tasted like nothing. The Seafood Feast came with a single fish "fillet". It was the thinnest piece of fish I've ever seen be called a fillet. In no way is Forest's Seafood Feast a feast. At least give people two barely-any-fish-in-this-fillet fillets. The staff were all really nice, though. Even if they did forget to bring some of the items we ordered/asked for. I read on reddit that their GM was horrible to work for. Don't waste your money. Visit one of the many other restaurants within walking distance of the aquarium. I wish we had.

Unfortunately the owners/shareholders or some clown in charge of ideas decided to stop selling their bottled seasonings... no reason to go here anymore. As the meals are only as good/consistent as the chef on duty. I can truly only appreciate the flavor in my own home. Goodbye bubba gumps. It's seems you want to focus on selling gimmics and cheap (quality) and tacky apparel instead. Good luck.

As someone who enjoys going to Bubba Gump for their Mac N Cheese has been turned upside down. We ordered our favorite dish of Mac n cheese, once the waitress brought it to our table we admired it. However a second scoop in and I felt something hard that was definitely not chewable. I spit it out and it was a bone. The waitress got our report and spoke to the manager. This resulted in our whole order being at no charge. Unfortunately as much as we loved this place we would prefer going somewhere else. Please take this feedback to help improve service and safety of others.
