Hard to get 5 stars as a dive bar but this place is super old school, as are most of the patrons, unless they are blue collar, or locals. They support the arts with live bands and a laid back vibe, and this was once the original home of Rusty's surfboards for you history buffs, in the 1960s.

Classic dive bar with live music. No food, save a food truck. Beware of small parking area and frequent pig patrols. Prolly better to walk there and not drive south on pch, cuz it's a bust waiting to happen.

The Kraken is a fun and friendly Hotspot. The bartenders are fast and efficient. No long waits for your drinks. The dancefloor is high energy. Nothing but top notch bands in this place.

Great coastal bar with live music! Pool tables on the back patio and a food truck. If you are around Encinitas/Cardiff/Solana Beach and want a fun spot for music and drinks, this is a great option.

This little local bar is the bomb. Except for last Saturday when Rosedale band (I use this term lightly) one guy who thinks he is all that and more. He is probably one of the worse bands I have ever seen. They literally had to call the cops to get him out of here and now he is blaming the staff and owner for his lack of talent. I am one of the locals here and there was no clapping that I heard except for when he was booted. Come on by and judge for your self. 40 years and still going strong. We love this bar and it's wonderful staff.

Easy. Get a drink in 60 seconds. Lots of dancing music. Nice size bathrooms. Food truck (had a Great burger) and pool tables in the back. No cover charge and Stella on tap is $7. Not bad considering what else is around. And the place gets packed because it’s “easy” and relatively cheap.

Also a great time at the Kraken! This is one of my top two favorite dive bars in North County. My friends and I went there to hear an 80s band and to celebrate my birthday a few days early. The lead singer found out it was my birthday, pulled me up on stage, introduced me as "Cinnamon" and handed me a cow bell! I sang with the band and then they sang me happy birthday. 😁 Sooo much fun!! 🤣🎉🎁🎈

First time here, seems like a great place. Good selection of liquor, patio is well sized and has three pool tables, not the best waterview since it isn't on the ocean side of the 801 but it's good enough for not being there. Lets you see the cliffside housing of Cardiff. They had a food truck parked next to the patio, "the tip of Cardiff" so convenient for anyone who wants a bite to eat.

One of my favorite biker bars in Southern California... Amazing ambience and atmosphere if you like drinking beer in a dive bar on the beach. It seems everyone super friendly... I always need a really good new friend every time I go there. On the weekends they've got live music... You can smoke in the back where the pool rooms are... The only downside is the food truck that I hear is really good...is only there on the night times and take some a long time to get there and sometimes doesn't show up in the daytime. I've been there on Saturdays and Sundays probably 10 times and unfortunately never got to try the food truck everyone rants and raves about.

Great bar with live music and "The Tip" food truck parked on the lot. It is consider the motorcycle bar of the area but don't let that fool you. The crowd is affluent and just looking to have a good time. There are three pool tables in the back of the bar in an open air patio. Located right across the street the water! If you want a great drink and casual bar atmosphere, I recommend coming to the Kraken.

My GF and I had a girl’s night out and this was our third and last stop. This is a fun hot spot for locals and for some fantastic bands. We played pool, hee hee I won. The crowd are friendly, just there to have a relaxing fun time. Check it out!

Great "dive bar" right across the street from the beach. We were there on a Thursday and it was poppin. Live band, cheap drinks, and 3 pool tables. An excellent way to end a day on the beach!

Great beach vibe with a mix of customers from all walks of life. On the weekends, bike clubs like to make a stop on their rides. Always decent music. On the weekends they have bands in the afternoon too. Food truck is now open for limited hours. Bartender says they are currently ramping up operations so it will soon be open more hours.

We were looking to find a rockin place with live Rock n Roll. We found the Kracken on the web, it was just 6 min. Away from our condo. Just off of Hwy 101. This little hole in the wall was popping!! I was already dancing when I walked in the door!!the band project x was in the middle of one of my favorite cover songs Sweet Home Alabama! The floor was packed with middle aged women and men dancing the night away having a good time!! We got a very good drink in about 3 min. I really liked the place and will be returning before heading back to N CA.

There is a water experience in the back which is cool and very deck-y which we like for things like live music or playing darts. The Kraken is not to be missed no matter how many different ways people tell us to say this word. I appreciate it and its origins of the mythical sea monster of the mysterious seas. Thank you Kraken - you fun!

Love this place. It's old and the bar stools have tear's, but it doesn't matter. They have a large parking lot and when we go we hit an older crowd of people that we can talk to. In the back there's an area with pool tables and smoking is ok. Very rare. Drinks good and the beer is cold. Clean restrooms and it's across the street from a beautiful beach. It's a dive, but a good one. Beach bum hang out.

Always fun. Friday and Saturday can get wild at times. Great staff. Best bar in Encinitas in my opinion. Age groups can vary from mid twenties and up, I’d say the average age is older but classy. Dance floor is small but gets the job done with good music. Not your average dive. Check it out for sure 👍

Possibly the best small DIVE BAR anywhere -- live cover bands Thursday thru Sunday, zero cover -- BRING CASH FOR THE TIP JARS... drinks are better when you are nice. Can be too crowded on Saturday nights... Love this bar ! But dont expect perfect. UPDATE: the food truck is gone again... This place has great live music (mostly cover bands) on a small, but full, dance floor and pool tables out back.

One of my fave spots. The vibe is beach/biker dive bar. Day time is mostly golfers/retired guys. Week ends and nites mixed. A lot of good music on the week ends.

I love this place but yesterday i went there w a friend. I asked the bartender( tall, thin ,blonde hair, braided wearing a cap) if they had Stella and she was super, super rude. Honey go find another job that is my advice to you . Then I bought my friend a corona did she ask me if she wanted a lime noooo she did not. Ugh ....seriously go work somewhere else.

The Kraken is a little biker bar by the beach...It's one of the greatest places to go for fun! Because it's small, you get to know most of the peeps there...and they get to know you too! Don't go there lookin for high end furnishings, come for the fun! It's right by some of the best restaurants, so you can eat before you go play! The music is always good and dancable... My husband, Frankie Dee has been playing there now for over 6 years! He plays R & B, Funk, some Rock...but for sure DANCE MUSIC! Girls, be sure not to bring men...there are plenty of those! Hope to see you there...

It used to be the best biker bar around. Then it was sold. Now prices went up, hardly any bikes there anymore. Food guy was the slowest and was not nice to the customers and never let you know when you food was up. Drinks cost more when music starts.....Disappointed

Dive bar with a laid back atmosphere. Came in for a quick drink and sat on the covered patio. Two pool tables are out there along with a view of a lagoon. There was also a food truck in the lot, which I'm told has some great chow. If you are looking for this type of place in Encinitas it certainly is the place to go.

The food is amazing. Coconut shrimp with their sauce is perfect. The fried pickles are so lightly breaded you wonder if they have bread at all. Probably the best I’ve ever had. The poppers? Just wow. Unfortunately the management has decided to charge 2.5% on all card charges, even debit cards. Unfortunately that’s about 2.2% too high as the interchange fees on debit cards are 0.3%. I purposely handed over my debit card after seeing that the menu has a statement about Credit Cards having an extra 2.5% charge. And to my unbelief I was still charged the 2.5%. When confronting the waitress and the MOD I was told that it would not be possible to remove the charge. At the end of the day it’s the waiters and waitresses that bear this mishap because their tips are ultimately reduced by the same amount. It’s a shame because the restaurant is either taking advantage of the unassuming patrons or the wait staff. Perhaps the management will see this and train the staff on how to run debit card transactions so the 2.5% doesn’t apply. Until then I believe they will continue to pad their pockets with unassuming guests.

Only gave it one star since zero is not an option. Food was nasty and flavorless, sodas were just like carbonated water (just plain flat) and water was from the faucet tasted old and the only thing that was any good were the mozzarella sticks and the waitress was okay but no personality so freakin serious... Never again and that's a promise just ruined my bby sister's birthday... Just horrible. This is my first and last time dining in here. BTW 18% gratuity for parties of 5 or more ridiculous when the person helping you is crappie at their jobs and on top of that an addtl 2.5%if you use credit card BS just addtl amount of money to take from guests.

The bartenders need a lesson on how to do their job. They dig out the ice for drinks with the same glasses they serve people. My friend got glass on his tongue. I can gladly say I'm never coming back here. The bartenders lack common sense

Seems like a nice lowkey spot that I wanted to rest and relax for a drink or two, but charging $10 for a pint of 805 is absolutely absurd.

Out-of-towners and young people, beware. My girlfriend and I (college students) were roofied here. Someone spiked her vodka sprite, and she thought it tasted funny so she gave it to me to drink. Minutes later I could barely stand and I remember very little from the night. We were targets as the youngest people in the bar and obvious tourists. Do not come here if you’re visiting!

Military vets go in for Cinco De Mayo(2 Mexican Americans, 1 Korean American), our first stop. Bartender tells us coldly hes only serving us shots. Figure maybe its just his tone of voice, and he's not being rude. Cool. Then he sits us on the darkside of the bar....red flag number 2. He asks what we want, and I say: "Lets see, Cinco De Mayo, so what do you have in tequila?" He tells me ill have to walk around to the other side of the bar and see for myself. I figured maybe its such a large selection that he cant say it all. It was 3 Tequilas. Hornitos, Cazadores, and something else. After a few cold stairs we decided to leave. Dont recommend the spot for any military vets.

I’ve been coming to this bar for nearly 20 years. I’m now 38, and I have never experienced the level of hostility I did during my most recent visit. I told the bartender I would be paying with cash and simply asked what the price of the drinks was. Instead of answering, he repeatedly yelled at me to “just give him money” without explaining what anything cost. The interaction was confusing, hostile, and completely unprofessional. When I asked if his attitude toward me had anything to do with my ethnicity, the situation escalated further. Afterward, I reviewed the bar’s Google reviews and noticed others reporting very similar experiences. I’ve included screenshots of those reviews as well. This was extremely disappointing to experience at a place I’ve supported for nearly two decades. I’ve also included a photo of the bartender involved so others are aware of who the interaction was with.

Place has no fans. No airflow whatsoever. So freaking hot. Had an open tab and went to my car to go across and jump in the water to cool off and come back and was yelled at to move my car or I would be towed. Place has no fans. No airflow whatsoever. So freaking hot. Had an open tab and went to my car to go across and jump in the water to cool off and come back and was yelled at to move my car or I would be towed. Couldn’t leave my car for 15 with an open ton to come back. Some regular that hangs there acting like a bouncer. Won’t be back. Shitty was of treating people.
