Exceptional cafe! Period. Whether we're there early morning for coffee, tea or pastries or during lunch for soup, salads and sandwiches or for an early dinner for pizzas and pasta entrees we never leave disappointed! Take note, their signature doughs are thick and rich. Some may find it a bit chewy but we're big bread fans so we're good with it. The pizza sizes are also big - they do offer pizza by the slice and have gluten free options. Some unique offerings all around. The place is SPACIOUS and modern - at least now. Very cool. Outside seating is available. On the edge of downtown Carmel so parking is a little easier. Bathrooms are clean
Our family was in town on Easter Weekend so we stopped by Rise & Roam Bakery and Pizzeria and so glad we did everything we ordered was delicious!! We had pizza, tomato bisque soup, ceasar salad all so good. It’s an added bonus that the restaurant has a wonderful bakery and great coffee next door!! The almond croissant was AMAZING!
I’ve joined for both lunch and dinner. The food is great! They just opened and have amazing sour dough bread. I’ve been told the chef maintained the culture for over 20 years! Take the fresh pastas - these are amazing (loved the Pork Belly Ragu). The roasted sunchoke and puffed rice are pretty unique small dishes for lunch. Worth a try!
Parking is limited to 2 hours on the street but great vibes and great pasties and breakfast! Would have loved to make this my usual working spot if I could! Will come back for their pizzas, but we had a great leek & cheese pastry and their avocado tartine (toast) would recommend those 2! Seating was easy and wifi was good, we went during spring break week on a Monday morning and it was busy but still has plenty of space
Brides; Look no further - Chef Jess and the team at Rise are the answer for your wedding!! Starting with Cake/Cupcakes: Chef Jess was AMAZING to work with. From the cake tasting (she made a 8 in cake for our tasting for me to take home with me) to communicating to making absolutely drool worthy cupcakes, I am in love with Chef Jess. Our guests RAVED about the cupcakes (she made us three types: red velvet with cream cheese, vanilla with caramel center, vanilla frosting with caramel drizzle and candied peanuts, and a chocolate cupcake with a fudge center, cookies and cream icing with oreo cookie crumble). Our cake was absolutely delicious (red velvet with cream cheese) - moist and flavorful to the max. She was a dream to work with and a true professional. I also worked with Rise & Roam to coordinate breakfast for my bridesmaids and I on the morning of my wedding for pickup! The food was individually boxed (which was SO HELPFUL) and absolutely delicious. Cannot recommend highly enough!!
Delicious bakery options for breakfast and nice big seating area inside. Loved the cinnamon roll and their biscuits
Found this place by accident and wow, it was great! We had pastries and coffee - delicious! The line was long, but moved fast. We were in and out much quicker than I expected. Cute seating areas inside and out, if you want to dine there. Lots of cute shops around too, if you want to explore.
First time here. Loved it! It was pretty expensive for a sanwhich (spent over $40 for two) but that's Carmel and it was very tasty and filling. I got the B.L.A.T, which I was told you just say "blat". We took ours to go but nice big seating area inside, and some outside. I loved perusing the cookbooks on display for sale here while waiting for our sandwiches. I don't know how we resisted buying some pastries, they all looked amazing (maybe the prices!)
It’s no secret that this place is a gem to those who get it. The baked goods do not miss and offer a range of classic and new savory brunch offerings. Compliments to the chef! The staff is super helpful and you can tell that foh and boh make every effort to make things right. They are who make this place extra precious, protect them at all cost! I worked in hospitality and appreciate those who know the little details. Will definitely make this my go to spot to bring friends, family and clients but also.. for me when i need to get away from the city!
Great selection of delicious pastries savory and sweet. Coffee right on point for me strong and creamy. Nice sitting area where you can see the staff baking and creating the delicious items . Definitely our favorite in Carmel.
Favorite bakery/cafe in Carmel! Everything we tried here has not disappointed. From the savory pizzas to their pastries and cookies. Must try: financiers and double chocolate cookie, but you can’t go wrong with anything else. Their coffee is also delicious (not too acidic which is what I prefer) Also, their space is really modern and clean with high ceilings and outdoor seats as well. We came here three days in a row. Last but not least, the people there are super pleasant and helpful. Love this place!
Food: The food was great and the burrito was crispy. Service: They were relatively quick despite being really busy. Atmosphere: the place is spacious and has plenty of seats. It's combined with another restaurant so seating is plentiful.
We love Rise & Roam. Got my daughter’s wedding cake here in August and you can never go wrong with these chocolate chip, toffee, potato chip cookies! I’ve never ordered anything I had to wait for- only out of the case. (There is an egg, leek, Gruyère pastry- 10/10- wish I took a pic) I’ve never been disappointed. ❤️
Good pizza the crust is soft yet has some chewy stretchiness - so good- and they have a good happy hour wine $7. I had the pesto pizza which was vegetarian friendly but the pesto wasn’t traditional or how I thought it would be- it must have been mixed with the sauce? Otherwise everything was good. Pesto pizza not pictured.
The food was very very good. I had the tarte d'asalce pizza and it was such a an interesting pizza. The fries with the mushroom aioli was very good as well. The place was clean and the young woman taking my order was very polite. If I lived here I would come here every weekend.
this is the best bakery in carmel by far! I love the variety of different pastries and the quality of ingredients💕 I also appreciate the gf muffin option:) The coffee is okay BUT do NOT get the matcha.
Pretty decent bakery. We did not get pizza because we came in the morning, but our breakfast options were pretty good and the pastries we got were pretty good. The inside has plenty of seating for parties of all sizes. I got the breakfast burrito and honestly it was just okay but I enjoyed it none the less. The staff was a little cold but other than that it was good.
Stopped by for breakfast and it was delightful. Coffee is coffee, pretty good but not amazing 7/10. The pastry case looked really good. Croissant was 10/10. Crispy on the outside but not dry and not too hollow. The brioche buns looked super soft and pillowy too! Breakfast pizzas was so super good! Egg yolk was perfectly just set but still golden yellow. Lots of seating inside and outside for a chill morning. Would definitely come back.
😮💨🍪🥐🔥 I mean C’Mon!!!!!!!! 👏🏼👏🏼 so good!!!! I don’t even know what I got…it was some berry pastry that was lit! I wish I remembered the staff members name that helped me, but she described it as amazing…and I was like…”sure, fine, I’ll try it” 😳😳😳 it was so damn good! Then my wife got their gluten free carrot muffin…10/10. A lot of bakeries have terrible g-free items…well R+R nailed this one. Moist and tasty 🤙🏼 I was bummed that they didn’t have the chip cookie , but I went with the standard chocolate chip cookie and it was legit, 10/10. Do yourself a favor and head to this spot. If I lived close by I’d be about 15lbs heavier and it would be worth it. 🫡🙏🏼🫵🏼🔥

Great little bakery. They had some unique pastries and breakfast items. We wound up getting the Sausage Breakfast Burrito and the Avocado Tartine with hot tea and a Double Espresso. The ladies behind the counter were great; warm and friendly. If you’re looking for a quick bite to go, I highly recommend this place. Wound up coming back for breakfast again. Grabbed the Salmon Tartine and a Gruyère,leek and onion Danish this time. Both were fantastic!

This establishment makes excellent pizza and my favorite cookie of all time (toffee brown butter potato chip). In fact, everything that my wife and I have tried, has been outstanding. We rarely go anywhere else when we are in Carmel.
Good coffee and great pastries. The morning bun is my go too. I love the cinnamon sugar mixed into the amazing texture of the bread. Croissants are the perfect blend of flaky and buttery.

Lingering jet lag meant I was at Rise and Roam before 8am 🥲 The Egg, Gruyere and Leek Danish caught my eye and warmed up it was SO GOOD. Really tasty. Coffee (strong oat milk latte) was fine (as per many of my past reviews, I have Melburnian coffee standards). It hit the spot at 8am.
Breakfast burrito is mid, skip it. Pastries & pizza for lunch hours hit the spot. The cortado is fantastic strong favor albeit $5. It’s a cafe, bakery, & lunch spot in an expensive coastal town; it’s overpriced for reasons but still has great tastes around, hopefully you catch the staff in good moods for likely dealing with snobby customers.
Gr8 food and coffee, especially for those looking for GF baking. Vanilla latte was excellent, americano was mid at best (sour). Longish wait during car week, about 15min on a Saturday afternoon, no biggie if its good. And believe me, it was good. Actually was the best almond croissant I have ever had, largely because the healthy amount of filling. Be warned, very pricey. GF blueberry muffin ($7.5), GF brownie ($8), almond croissant ($6.5). All 3 were delicious but, 2 coffees and 3 pastries came out to +$35 USD+tip, crazy Carmel prices lol.

We stopped in for lunch on our way back from Point Lobos. Ordered two kids pizzas and a Chinese chicken salad. Order was to-go, so no opportunity to politely complain in person... So here it goes. Kids pizzas ($16) were small and extremely poorly cut (not cut through, nor even close to evenly cut), making it a fun challenge for the kids to attempt eating in the car. We didn't get the milk nor juice box that we ordered. Thankfully the kids did enjoy the pizza. Chinese chicken salad was very underwhelming. It should be called cabbage salad. Needs some addition like a nut and mandarin or something to elevate it, else it's pretty much just crispy noodle cabbage salad :) We will come back to Carmel-by-the-Sea, but not here.
The pastries looked better than they were. The morning bun was bready, The pecan roll was ok, good topping but more a bread than a pastry.
I had pretty high expectations for the pizza here but I was quite underwhelmed. The Roam pizza I ordered was covered, in the driest, bitter, flavorless broccoli that I found myself trying to avoid every bite. It was also strangely cold when it got to me, even though it came out quite quickly. The sauce had potential but it was just spread way too thin. I can understand being conservative to give the crust room to rise, but this was such a stingy layer of sauce it was dry and flaking by the time I ate it. I definitely enjoyed the crust though, it had that perfect chewy bite and mildly charred flavor I really like in a pizza crust like this. Honestly I think my biggest mistake was ordering the Roam pizza instead of, say, the Tarte D'alsace. Having seen it on someone else's table, now *there's* a pizza that sounds (and looks) good. But to have the namesake pizza be this disappointing is kind of sad. The croissant was quite nice. It had an intensely rich flavor and a decent flakiness to the outside. Maybe a tad too greasy for my liking but hey, that's where the taste comes from. Unfortunately I had to go back and ask for it because the person I ordered it from forgot to bring it out. She was kind and apologetic though, so no biggie.
Large seating area. Delicious pastries! Great place to just relax after a long drive getting to Carmel.
Pastries and food is incredible. Coffees leave a lot to be desired. They have a beautiful La Marzocco machine but the shots they pull are bitter and they scoop milk foam with a spoon for a cappuccino (!) Edit: Bumped up to 4 stars. Their pastries are that good but for the love of god please learn how to pull a good espresso shot!!
The place looked nice inside - there was not too much space inside to consume the coffee but there were tables outside and also a large seating area mainly for eating food. The peanut butter cookie was fine but nothing exceptional at all. The coffee was bad unfortunately - even the iced latte tasted very bitter and cappuccino neither looked nor tasted well. I don’t recommend this place for coffee but they have ice cream, maybe that is better

Everything except for maybe the pizzas is premade. Their burrito just goes in a glorified toaster oven out of a refrigerator. Even the smoked salmon toast has been sitting in a display case all morning.
high hopes for this place.. we visited last week for dinner. the atmosphere was dark, minimalistic and had a cold vibe. the menu seemed pretty limited. I ordered the green salad with chicken. it was literally just a pile of spinach, a very small amt of thinly sliced green apple and some boiled chicken.. no flavor to the chicken whatsoever. my sister's pork meal was just okay too. service was sporadic.
Order at the counter as you enter and seat yourself. Eat your meal and bus your own table. Breakfast burrito was reheated. The pizza was fresh and served hot but was nothing special. Cashless business.

I rated this place five stars two years ago and was so impressed! Two years later, they don't serve most vegan dishes, the bread in the avocado toast was burnt, the meals were served in plastic plates, and they only offered spoons to eat the salad with (no forks). This is the second try we give the place since their renovation, and the place just went downhill..... Amazing food! The pizzas are epic. I recommend the vegan eggplant pizza. The butternut squash soup is perfection. Great for vegans too.
It was a terrible experience visiting this place for the first time. We ordered one cheese pizza and one salad, and it took them almost one hour to serve our food. After waiting 40 minutes, I went back inside to ask for my order. The staff was definitely not helpful or apologetic for the delay. They made it seem like it was our fault because we were there “during rush hour,” which, of course, didn’t make any sense since it was 1:25 p.m. on an slow Monday in Carmel. The staff asked me if we wanted a pastry to make up for the delay, but it took another 20 minutes until we could see our food, totaling the mentioned close to 1-hour wait. When the food finally arrived, the salad (that I said we were sharing) was served in a single bowl, and the pizza was just slightly better than a Red Baron frozen pizza. If you decide to try this place, make sure you just go for their grab-n-go options to avoid disappointments. On top of that, on the day of my visit, I also noticed a fly on their muffins, and their restroom was missing maintenance, with the trash bin overloaded and the trash spilling out over the top and no paper towels, which for me are all signs of poor management and care about their customers and the service they provide. Funny enough, the default minimum tip displayed on their POS is 18% which is completely not aligned with the service levels provided by the staff here.
Skip it!!! Completely overrated place. We had high hopes but were sorely disappointed. They charged us for french fries that we never ordered. We told the waitress when she brought the food to us that we didn’t order fries. Her response was “well, you were charged for them so you might as well take them.” They were $10 & soggy & terrible. We also had a veggie frittata, coffee, cheese pizza, & a chocolate chip cookie. The cookie was literally the only decent thing. There are MUCH MUCH MUCH better options.
