There’s a reason you can buy their salsa in a Santa Fe grocery store. This place rivals anything up there. The dining room is great…we all love the old school lounge. I don’t know what seasoning they use for their ground beef, but it’s the best I’ve ever had anywhere in the world. Oh…you get sopapillas included with everything. Margaritas are legit. Best place in Albuquerque…worth coming here.
Family recommended that we try this next time we're in Albuquerque. Other than being in a rough part of town, the food was good and the restaurant was clean. It's on my go to list from now on when I'm in the area flavors are really good.
I was in a party of three at 11 am on a Saturday. The decorative atmosphere of this restaurant is fantastic. The service and food were excellent as well. I was pleasantly surprised by the bold flavors of the chips and salsa. They had a smoky flavor that was different from many restaurants in Albuquerque. I ordered the huevos rancheros with carne adovada. I do not believe I have seen this combination offered at another restaurant in town. The combination was excellent! Another in my party had the tamale plate, which he found very flavorful. I highly recommend this restaurant and hope to eat here again soon.
We love coming here during Halloween. The food is delicious and the drinks are nice and stiff, and the prices are very reasonable. The staff is pleasant and friendly! Great New Mexico tradition.
Fantastic food and beautiful atmosphere! The food was absolutely fantastic! Our party ordered the chicken flautas, chicken fajitas, chicken burrito, ground beef tacos, seafood enchiladas, and Combination 1 (beef tamale, cheese enchilada, beef taco, carne adovada). The entrees came with several sides, including sopapillas! The portions were very generous, food was fresh and hot (fajitas were sizzling), and they had a great variety of options. The good was very flavourful. They had several options for sensitive stomachs and keto/paleo dietary needs. I was able to order food that was not spicy at all, and there was no sacrificing of flavor! Our party also had the housemade sangrias, which were sangria, and the prickly pear margarita. We would all visit again and recommend it to others! Note: This restaurant is not wheelchair friendly.
We were treated like guests at a home rather than an establishment. Thank you Seamus for the ice pack for my knee. (I fell in the snow) My tummy was happy with the food and my heart was full with your kindness.
Great classic Mexican food with old school diner vibes. One of the few places still serving legit Spanish rice. Their salsa and sopapillas were delicious. Service was very friendly. Highly recommended. 👍👍
This was my first time here. This place did not disappoint! The red chile was delicious! I had the combo plate with a tamale, cheese enchilada, taco and carne adovada. Everything on my plate was fresh, hot and most of all...delicious!! The neighborhood is sketchy, but the food is worth the risk!! Will definitely be going back!!
Excellent customer service! The best Sopapillas! Fluffy and delicious. The Service is great, the place is very calming. All the salsa's taste good. Definitely a go back to restaurant. Thank you Chef!
Fun place to stop! Tamales were some of the best my husband ever had. Great enchilada plate. Red sauce was killer. Taco salad good but mild seasoning. Margarita A++ and sophapia (?) was quite good as well. Server, Kyle was fantastic, great energy and service.
The place has a surreal, old world decor and ambience. The food was authentic New Mexican, very tasty. Green and red Chile, both delicious, red is a little spicier. The sopapillas were amazing. Staff and service was fast, attentive and friendly. Checked all our boxes. Will definitely visit again. Top choice in ABQ for new Mexican cuisine.
BLUF: What a hidden gem 💎! Great food and AMAZING Service! My son and I are from Georgia we’re passing thru. Being a retired Army veteran, we stopped by Kirtland Air Force Base to shop at the BX and Shoppette for snacks. We asked a few senior Airmen if there is a great Mexican Restaurant around the Base. There was a consensus that Cervantes is THE 👉🏼 place for great service and food🌮🌶️🥗. I got to admit, when we pulled up the parking lot, the exterior was a bit worrisome😟 but there was a lot of cars parked in their back parking lot so that was a plus👍🏼. My son and I were a bit confused 😵💫as there are several doors around the building. We went to the front but those were locked so we went back to the rear and realized the entry is in the back of the building adjacent to the parking lot. Sounds strange I know, that we didn’t know it was the primary entryway at first but it was not really direct. When we went inside, it was an active family🧑🧑🧒🧒 friendly place. The service was EXCELLENT🤟🏻! Shout out for Jenevieve our server! She is a PRO👩🏽💼! Explained the menu📋, made recommendations, took our orders brought out and refilled our chips, salsa and drinks at the right time. She was kind, quick and on point👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼. The food was delicious and filling🤤. This place is truly a hidden gem 💎. Highly recommended if you’re in Albuquerque, NM.
Great experience with food and service! Sherry my server was quick and got my order, she is a very hard worker who served us 14 people so it was very impressive to see. She deserves the raise. The owner Iris was exceptional she cared about the customers and also gave us safety tips on our trip and how to keep our car safe from any dangers. I highly recommend this restaurant and I look forward to coming back.
The atmosphere is warm and cozy, especially when fireplace is going. Had carne adovada stuffed sopapilla w xmas sauce. Perfect amount of heat, meat was tender, juicy, and they were not stingy w the sauce. Next time, interested in brisket stuffed sopapilla...sounds interesting...server was wonderful, professional and overall, took very good care of our table of 4. Prices are a little high - $9 guacamole..but expected these days. Only issue was sopapillas served w our meal were stale/chewy. I still ate 4 though...im visiting from out of town, so I have to get them in while i can...
Called in an order for my coworkers and myself around 11:15. I was told order would be ready in 10-15 minutes. Showed up at 11:30. Was greeted when I walked in but wait for at least 10 minutes before someone assisted. I paid for my order and wait till about 12 before it came out. Got the food back to work. It was delicious. We had chicken flautas, beef tacos, beef enchiladas, and chicken stuffed sopapillas.
Good quality New Mexican food. Portions were large. Salsa and chips were good. Salsa had a good level of heat. Flat enchiladas with red sauce was good. Waitress was very attentive and we were allowed to stay late socializing with family who live in town. Appreciated that they didn’t rush us out. Prices were reasonable. This was a good restaurant and suitable for all size groups.
So my mom had been out of town for 11 days with no New Mexican food of course... decided to go to Cervantes since it's not far from the airport and used to be absolutely delicious. What a massive disappointment our visit was, with the exception of service from Kyle, who was amazing & adorable!!! We ordered the queso to start, came out cold and totally flavorless, sent it back. I had the combo plate that came with one ground beef taco, carne adovada, one cheese enchilada & one chile relleño, Christmas with extra onions and the side were while beans & papas. Ugh... the taco was dry, no flavor, not even served with salsa or anything. There was about a tablespoon of Carne Adovada, tender & juicy, but only a couple bites. The enchilada was flavorless, and a raw corn tortilla, cheese not melted, just blah. The relleño was super sad!!! ALL breading, no flavor AT ALL except the pull it was fried in. Hardly found the green chile inside the breading, and definitely couldn't find any cheese inside that! Again, nooooo flavor even with Christmas. The beans were dark as heck (like old frijoles get), mushy & dry, again, NO flavor. The papa's were actually hash browns which weren't fully cooked, white as heck, no flavor AGAIN! Ohhhh, and ordered EXTRA onions, had like eight peices on the whole plate. The whole plate was just bland and dry all over unfortunately. Mom got the stacked beef enchiladas with green, all whole beans & extra onions with an over easy egg on top. She said it wasn't horrible, but the egg was over hard, no run in the yolk at all & only a couple onions as well. Kyle seriously was the only good thing about the experience. Sign says "been serving since 1975" but boy have they changed, and NOT for the better by any means. Sad to write this review in all honesty, it's been a long time, but I used to eat here at least 3-5 times a week when my dad was in a coma at Lovelace & I was a preggo, seriously, for six months!!! Hope you guys can find what you used to have with this place.
Cervantes atmosphere is beautiful and it has a live fire place which is really nice but our server that we had was really bad at checking up on us and messed up our order as well. The chips are cold, I personally believe the chips should be warm. The salsa containers were also so small 🫢
The good: Super cool atmosphere/vibes. They go all out on the holiday decorations. I ordered christmas huevos rancheros minus the meat and it was decent, the chile was tasty but they were very stingy with it. My tablemates were generally happy with their food. The bad: Worst margarita I've had in my life, like ever. And I ordered a top shelf cadillac margarita. Completely undrinkable. Had my three other tablemates taste it and they concurred. The ugly: Literally the slowest service ever. It took about 40 minutes to even place our dinner order. The waiter was nice enough but they are clearly understaffed and it took forever to get anything. When I told the server my margarita was undrinkable he suggested a Silver Coin margarita. I said no thanks, I didn't really trust the bartenders margarita making skills and asked for a drink menu. Instead, he brought me a silver coin margarita. I tried it but it was also bad and once again asked for a drink menu. He never brought one.
The food is OK if you are really hungry. We grabbed our own menu after they sat us down. Didn't get a refill and noticed others were low on beverages as well. They checked on us 1 time while eating. It's kind of dark and hard to read the menu in that lighting.
18 dollar huevos rancheros with a tiny portion of carne adovada. I literally had more lettuce than hashbrowns on my plate. Photo attached is not eaten off of yet. Our server was really nice. The atmosphere inside is nice but its a tough area. We were a large party and nobody was impressed with the portions. Steep prices and small plates was the consensus at our table.
The queso tasted burnt. I would think that cheese enchiladas would be hard to mess up but they somehow managed to do it. The food was cold and the chile tasted spoiled. We barely touched our plates. The waiter didn’t even ask how our food was. I’m so sick to my stomach right now. We won’t be back.
Waiter was very rude and unprofessional. Asked why I was up charged and he became agitated. Our order took all of lunch hour to prepare had to ask for it to go. When I got back to work and finally was able to eat my order was not correct charged 2.50$ for one egg that I didn't receive no cheese on the taco. And charged for a drink I didn't have. Tried to call no answer. Went after work to get refunded over charge. Again waiter was very rude told why didn't I look at my ticket prior.
Food was disgusting! I ordered the chicken Enchiladas and it had no flavor. Tasted like it came our of a can. Rice was mushy and tasted burnt. Waitress only checked on us once and added a $17 tip. I think tipping should have been up to the costumer. We got sat and waited 10 minutes before someone came and took our drink order. I will not be returning to this place.
