A proper steakhouse with a smokehouse aroma as soon as you enter. That sweet smell of wood-grilled meat and the ambiance to go with it. That is once your eyes have properly adjusted to the dim lighting from the brightness of the outdoors. Had made a reservation on a Wednesday night for 5:30pm for my colleague and I. My colleague was running about 15 mins late, so it allowed me to sit at the bar, enjoy a nice old-fashioned cocktail, and have a great chat with Dino, the bartender. I learned about the history of this place, the owner and his team of investors, and other restaurants. Time flew by and before you knew it my colleague had arrived and we were promptly seated at our table. The ribeye was strongly recommended, so I couldn't resist. Who doesn't love a good ribeye steak! It was cooked to perfection, so tender and juicy, and flavors that hyped the taste buds beyond belief. I enjoyed every single bite of that steak, and any tiny portion that couldn't be forked or knifed was taken home for my colleague's dog to enjoy. There is no better treat for a dog! The sides of potatoes and brussel sprouts were great accompaniments to the true star of the show. I left feeling so full and so satisfied. Worth every penny, and it will set you back quite a few. Great food, great atmosphere, and great service. Highly recommend this place.

I’ve been meaning to leave this review for a year now, as one year ago, I proposed to my now fiancée and took her to dinner here. The service we received was the best I have ever had. I can’t say enough about our waitress, Shae, who was extraordinarily kind and clearly genuinely happy for us, and helped make our dinner truly amazing. All of the staff we interacted with were wonderful. The food was also delicious. The mac and cheese was great with a delicious crust and the bacon was also good. The steaks and desserts were very good as well, as were the drinks. I can’t recommend Bin 54 enough for any special occasion you may be celebrating. We can’t wait to return!

Fantastic dinner! We were seated in the cute covered patio with the room all to ourselves. Our server Reagan was excellent. He made solid suggestions and was available every time we needed something. The lobster Gnocchi was superb. The grouper special was well prepared and juicy with a fun sesame seed crust. My wife enjoyed the sear on her 10oz filet. The star of the night we the great French 75s. It was a terrific dinner. We loved the atmosphere, the service and the food. Can't wait to go back.

Always a Chapel Hill staple for fine dining and special occasions. Love that it's still like a hole in the wall place! Celebrated another anniversary here, and as always the meal was excellent as well as the service and ambiance. Enjoyed delicious crab cake and salad followed by filet, accompanied with scalloped potatoes and asparagus. 5 stars!

Excellent experience! Each dish was prepared to perfection, and the cocktails were well crafted. Expansive wine list and our server, Mike, provided great recommendations. This was our first time dining at Bin 54, we’ll definitely return.

High end steakhouse located in Chapel Hill that is the best steakhouse in area in my opinion. Number of choices on cuts plus a few seafood and other options like duck or pork chop. With any steak you get a choice of sauce or can order oscar. Great appetizer list and a number of salad choices as well. Food is all amazing. Service is outstanding. Physical space is kept on darker side with a number of wrap around booths around the edges and tables in middle. Bar area is very popular and features high end cocktails as well as wine and beer. You can eat in bar as well. Overall, just a really outstanding steakhouse and experience.

Very popular five star award winning steak house. It's one of the best high end high quality establishments in Triangle West. You will not be disappointed even after paying the check ($100/person) and tipping the staff a minimum 20% or more. I'm sure they're booked for Valentine's Day.

Had the best Valentine’s Day dinner here!! The service was incredible and we really appreciated the timing between courses; we didn’t feel rushed at all, but we also hardly had to wait between courses. The steaks were the best we have had in the Triangle. We will definitely be back for our next special occasion!!

Best steaks in Chapel Hill and a must visit destination for executives taking courses at UNC.👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 At Bin 54, all steaks are subtly seasoned and grilled over hickory wood, the wine list is extensive and definitely the steak house to go to. Highly recommended 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

This was a beautiful place to celebrate our anniversary. Mike and Dimitri took great care of us. The meal was paced well and the atmosphere was great. We tried a few of the cocktails that were very tasty as well as a steak and steak special. The Mac and cheese is to die for. My only criticism is the poor looking upholstery on the chairs, it cheapens the feel of the rest of the decor and atmosphere. They would do well to do an update to something more durable.

It's always a pleasure to have dinner at Bin 54! The ambiance and decor are very pleasing and although it's rather dark, the lighting is good. There are opulent booths with dining tables in the main dining room and a nice bar with seating on one side. There is even a private dining room for events. You smell the wood smoke the instance you walk in priming you for your meal. Service is excellent and the sommelier is very knowledgable. Great wine list! We had a delicious tomato salad with burrata and balsamic vinegar, then a perfectly cooked filet mignon and grilled duck/confit with great sides. The banana pudding that we're had for dessert was delicious with meringue. Parking lot can sometimes be busy but usually very easy to park and walk in. Definitely a good choice if you're craving steak!

Had the best anniversary dinner tonight at BIN 54. The food, the staff and of course a nightcap at the bar was all fantastic!! Jeff, our waiter was very attentive and extremely nice and in my opinion Demitrius, the bar manager is the best bartender in town!! Definitely recommend this restaurant for dinner especially when celebrating something special!

Delicious but pricey. That being said I believe it is worth the money. Came here for the first time and really enjoyed it. The New York Strip was mouthwatering. The bread and butter was addicting. The brussel sprouts and potatoes were comforting. The service was wonderful, and the ambiance was nice. The restaurant does have a bit of a smoky smell because of the kitchen, which I find a plus, but understand it may be irritating to those that have a sensitivity to smoke.

Perfect dinner spot and we look forward to coming back again as we continue to return. The drive is well worth it! I hate that they don’t have the bone-out ribeye currently but the bone in still tasted exceptional! Service as always was great! Can’t wait to return again!

This Place Had Amazing Food With Really Responsive Waiters and Chill Out Vibe To It. I recommend Get The 45 Hamburger It was one of the best Burger I have Ever Had and It had an amazing taste to it. Also The Calamari With Sweet Chill That Combo is 🔥

The food and the service were outstanding very extensive wine list and the scallops were the best I have ever had. I would highly recommend being 54 if you are in Chapel Hill or even close by and is well worth the trip.

We had a real treat tonight at Bin 54. The service was top notch, and a fine dinner from drinks to aps to the bone-in ribeye. Very nice romantic atmosphere. We split the huge perfectly done steak, and we will return to try more yummy dishes. Kudos to our fine waitress Kira, the kitchen, and the team who seamlessly helped. Thank you!

There are loud-mouth, foul-mouth braggarts at every bar these days, despoiling even fine establishments. Nevertheless, the steak and service were excellent here — along with a nice wine selection by the glass. I would go back, but probably reserve a table next time.

We celebrated our anniversary here and it was perfect! Amazing atmosphere, incredible food and special touches likes the complimentary champagne toast and post dinner macaroons made it over the top. Highly recommend!

We have lived in Chapel Hill for decades, but had never been to Bin 54. Last night we celebrated our 40th anniversary there---and we had a wonderful experience. Ryan, our server, was very attentive. The filets were perfection. The molten lava cake was delicious. Yes, Bin 54 is special!

Enjoyed the atmosphere and food, the service left something to be desired for next time .. I’m sure with our late reservation we just had a new girl.. Really excellent cocktail menu and bottle list. I look forward to the next time I get to sit in those cozy chairs in the dark romantic rooms.

I was originally attracted by the banana pudding…And everything else is yum too - the calamari appetizer and the steak, highly recommended. Nice service also. Had a good dinner time there! Will definitely come back 👍

I truly enjoyed having dinner with my family at Bin 54. It's a beautiful restaurant with a comforting wood-smoke aroma. A bit on the dimly-lit side for me, but it was a happy and peaceful atmosphere. The salt & pepper calamari was better than I expected. Definitely looking forward to our next visit! Thank you Lily for your dining assistance...the chocolate mousse birthday cake and candles for my grandson was a big plus!

This steakhouse has a lively and moody atmosphere. All appetizers for our group were seasoned well and had a nice flavor profile. The escargot was particularly tasty! Entrees seemed well-received across the board for our group, I certainly enjoyed the filet! Our server, Bacardi, kept a professional, patient, and punctual eye on our table. This was a lovely treat and I look forward to our next visit.

Had one hell of dang good bloody Mary. It was light citrusie and simple and super minimal while blasting my mouth with a new experience. I think the bartender was a woman named Reese. Oh and she can shake one hell of a drink.

5 stars for me because the food is the star of the show. The food quality along with the options is #1. I also liked that the location is slightly obscure, so parking is always available. I really liked the default configuration of the tables. Sometimes at a steakhouse, the tables can feel small when all the items are out. As far as atmosphere, i didn’t feel anything special or an addition to my experience. It’s clean, quiet & dimly lit that allows you to make your experience instead of being fed the experience.

Wonderful food and cocktails were definitely mixed by a professional and experienced bartender. My wife and I loved having our anniversary here and got a cute champagne toast from the staff as a perk. :) the atmosphere was quiet and perfect for conversation and romantic. The only minor thing is due their use of a wood fired stove you will leave smelling like campfire, and such is the first thing that hits you along with the sweet succulent scent of roasting beef and steak when you enter

Had a happy 55th birthday party on a Saturday night; we were a group of 9. We've been to Bin 54 before and have never been disappointed. We had a nice table off to the side which felt semi-private. Our waitress, Reese, was simply phenomenal; she was super-attentive, friendly, and very professional. One of the people at dinner left her credit card, and Reese called me and arranged for the card to be delivered to us. Who does that? Simply excellent customer service! The food and wine was as always delicious. We had an amazing time.

We were seated in a private room in the wine cellar. So intimate and in the company of fine wines albeit a bit chilly.

It may be known to locals, but Bin 54 was a discovery for me. Was looking for a decent dinner while in the area for work, hit on this gem by accident. Very nice atmosphere, almost cozy lighting. The service was great with a very knowledgeable wait staff who provided good advice on wine pairings and offered a nice selection of house cocktails. The wine selection is extensive and, while I’m not much of a whiskey drinker, I was impressed by the long list of those offerings. The food was great. I had a hanger steak that was perfectly cooked and flavorful. There are a variety of sauces to select with meats—the chimchurri was good. Others at the table had pork chops and a huge burger. Side dishes are family style and equally good. We had asparagus and potatoes which I would recommend. Prices are high, but not for this level of restaurant. I would say Bin 54 compares favorably to high end chains like Ruth’s Chris or Capital Grill, but with better service and drink options. Next time I’m in Chapel Hill I hope to eat here again.

Fantastic atmosphere, excellent service, and delicious food. My filet was cooked to perfection, and the sides were amazing. I only wish I had discovered Bin 54 years ago. This was our first visit, and it’s definitely going to be one of our go-to dinner spots from now on.

Exceptional experience for a staff/office gathering. Steaks were perfectly cooked, sides were delicious and the banana pudding was insanely good. We will be back.

Food : price was up on the highend. My Australian ribeye was regular - ok. Atmosphere : very dark and a bit outdated (idk, maybe it is regular decor of a steakhouse) Service : our waitress was unique. Very theatrical very dramatic. Which gave us a unique experience here😂 Better make a reservation.

Overall a good experience and recommend with some caveats. The short ribs were superb (though a bit salty). The salad was also very good. The macaroni and cheese was absolutely fantastic -- perhaps the best I have had. Our server was very kind and professional (though a different server came out first and mistakenly said "congratulations on your anniversary" -- she mixed up the tables). - the room has a very strong firewood smoke smell, which is unpleasant (and not good for your health) - the overall wait time for food was long - at prime hour, parking can be a bit difficult to get right outside Overall, a good experience and can recommend.

Visited restaurant fot my mom's Birthday Dinner. The staff were very friendly, waiter was great and seemed very familiar with the menu. Atmosphere was good, seemed very dark. This restaurant was outrageously expensive!!! Probably won't be returning anytime soon!!! OVER RATED 🤷🏾‍♀️

Randomly went to this place while the Tesla was charging at the hotel. We walked in and there was no host at the stand to greet us. I guess no one took us (2 young females) serious and a couple of servers walked by us as we stood at the stand waiting for service. I called the restaurant from my cell and no one picked up. I even saw the bartender look at his phone ringing both times I called and did not pick up. After about 10 mins I had to find someone to seat us. Turns out the host (short guy) was socializing at the bar. (He should really wear a dark suit if this is supposed to be fine dining) The food was okay but not a Wow factor. We ordered an 18oz ribeye. It could have used a little more seasoning and cooked a little less, but it was good. Also got the calamari (could have been fried a little longer). We liked the sauce on it. We also ordered the duck, asparagus, and truffle Mac n cheese (something was missing in it that would have made it a great side). Our drinks were good. I would have ordered more drinks from the bartender but I didn’t like how he didn’t answer the phone even when he wasn’t busy. My waiter was awesome! Spent a little over $200 which was expected. A few changes and this experience could have been much better. I hope they put a host at the front b/c I hate waiting especially when there is seating available.

came here for a family event on 10.29.23, my parents 60th diamond anniversary. a little irritated at first that the waiter is pushy about putting an alcoholic beverage in my hand before my entire party arrived, that's not very classy actually. Do I seem desperate to get my drink on? Like I've never consumed alcohol before and just turned 21? Also when you request sparkling water, can you just put the entire bottle on the table? Thank you. I ordered the 10 oz fillet Mignon, medium + they had it cooked as. It was for me a little bit too pink + a tinge bloody. they said they cook it over hickory wood but didn't really taste any of the smokiness in the meat. no biggie just a minor detail. It was moist and I could tell the meat was high grade. However a bit ridiculously overpriced. Unless this is somehow Kobe beef or we're going through a beef famine, not sure why that is. Perhaps because there's not much competition in the fine dining arena here. I can head to my local butcher and pick up some farm to table quality fillet mignon and cook it over firewood easily enough. Just to cite an example I can go to my favorite Argentinian steakhouse in Chicago (Tango Sur) and get the el'filet which is 2 medallions of Fillet Mignon, a side of green mashed potatoes for $22. So $42 fillet mignon failed to blow my mind away. I do like the servers pouring my wine, but I don't like how they ration the pouring of the wine. What if I wanted more? They should ask me when to stop instead of pre-determining this. Also I was thinking I was too underdressed until I arrived and saw some dudes in surrounding vicinity dressed in t-shirts looking like complete slobs. Can you at least look like you're not at Biscuitville or Bojangles? Nobodies asking you to get dressed up in a suit or tux but at least make an effort to be respectably presentable. What REALLY irritates the heck out of me: sides, which they've dubbed 'companions' are Á La Carte. That's a capital sin in Chicago where I'm originally from, and which is legendary for steak. I half imagine it's similar if not moreso here in the south. I know the owner is Greek but last I checked this wasn't Greece, and maybe that's a Greek thing but it really ensured I'll never be returning back here anytime soon. I will praise their salmon dish, my aunt raved about it and said it was the best she's had in a long time.

Went for my 60th birthday celebration. Ordered the 10oz filet and the duck fat roasted potatoes. My wife ordered the cowboy ribeye with brussel sprouts. My steak was two sad rounds barely an inch thick. Worse, each round had been cut in half - so two half moons, cooked medium, not medium rare. I guess they cut to check, then sent it anyway? The potatoes were undercooked and still crunchy. My wife got the cowboy ribeye and brussel sprouts. Brussels were undercooked and bitter. I understand not tasting the steak, but the sides? That steak was cooked properly but really poorly seasoned - some parts were great, other parts completely unseasoned, Decided to not ruin the night further by complaining. Probably bad in my past but why make things worse? No small fix here.

My spouse and I went to Bin 54 for my birthday dinner. Based on the menu and the reviews, I was expecting an absolutely lovely meal from the beginning to the end. And both the beginning and the end were, in fact, lovely, but it was what in between the two that was the problem. We arrived about twenty minutes early for our 8 o'clock reservation, as we tend to do, so we waited at the bar where we each enjoyed a mocktail; I had the New Fashioned, and my spouse had a blueberry ginger concoction. They were both lovely, although the New Fashioned was rather sweeter than its alcoholic namesake, although it was still well-considered and composed; it just needed a stronger tannic component to really meet what I was hoping for. The bartenders were fantastic, friendly and welcoming and prompt with service despite being visibly very busy, and the bearded fellow was quite charming. Once our table was available, only a few minutes late due to the previous guests there lingering for some time, for which the maître d'hôtel was quite apologetic (and not something we would have held against him or any of the other FOH staff; there were many guests who were clearly lingering long after finishing their meals), we settled down and were attended to by Mike, who took excellent care of us all evening. Before our appetizers arrived, we were provided with some of the best bread and butter I've ever had. The bread, an exquisite artisanal sourdough from Utica Bakery in Apex, had a marvelous depth and complexity, and the butter, we were informed, was churned and cultured in-house and finished with Maldon sea salt, and they came together beautifully. For the appetizer, we both had the steak tartare, and it was excellent, balanced well to complement the crisped potato slices it was served with, although we both felt it could use a touch more mustard. After an appropriate amount of time for us to digest, the table was cleared and utensils provided for the mains and sides we ordered. And that's where it began to underwhelm. We both had the duck breast (in fact, I chose Bin 54 for my birthday dinner specifically because I wanted duck breast), and I had the red wine demi-glace to accompany it, while my spouse ordered the dried cherry sauce. For sides, we ordered the twice baked potatoes, the duck fat roasted potatoes, the mushroom ragout, and the sauteed spinach. The sauces were perfect, and both the twice baked potatoes and the mushrooms were everything we hoped for and more. The duck fat roasted potatoes had excellent flavor, but they had no crispiness at all, which is not what one expects for such a dish. And the sauteed spinach looked excellent, a vibrant green that told me it was blanched properly before being sauteed, but it tasted like it had not been seasoned at all, tasting bitter and sulfurous and little else. Even the cheese that it had been dressed with (some kind of ricotta dressing, according to the menu) was doing absolutely nothing to bring it back. I managed exactly one forkful and could eat no more; if it had just had some salt and pepper I would have likely eaten more of it. Finally, I requested a cup of coffee as a digestif, and we declined to order a dessert simply because we had no capacity for anything rich. However, Mike brought us a pair of macarons with a single birthday candle and the words Happy Birthday! written on the plate, and they were a superb way to finish the meal. We were informed that they were made in-house by the pastry chef, who was the most on top of their game in the kitchen tonight, followed closely by whoever made the twice baked potatoes and the mushroom ragout. Because of how profoundly we were disappointed by the duck and two of the four sides, we're unlikely to return in the near future, and I would hesitate to recommend it to any friends or acquaintances. But we might go out of our way to patronize Utica Bakery.

Bin 54 unfortunately did not meet expectations. The food was mediocre to start. Generic room-temperature bread and butter. The mussels were pretty bland and came with greasy overly buttered bread, plus no bowl to discard the shells so we had to just pile them on our little bread plates. The lobster gnocchi was also not very flavorful, with limp overcooked and shredded up pieces of lobster. The $120 porterhouse that we requested medium rare was cooked extremely unevenly with a soft rare middle and overcooked grainy edges. There were some burnt edges and yet no sear or crust on the outside. The whole steak was sinewy and felt like a low quality cut of meat. The only saving graces were our server who did just fine and the wine which was pretty good. Overall, the meal was nothing to write home about, *especially* not for the prices they're charging. Bin 54 gets 2 stars because at least the food was edible.

I wouldn’t come back. Service was lacking…and yes, I know all restaurants are suffering with staffing shortage but it’s unacceptable to charge these prices and offer lackluster service. The sommelier (GK) said they had 5 servers tonight that were all new. I called attention to the sub par service to the server (Joseph) twice. First issue was appetizers. We sat down at 6:45 and we didn’t get them until 7:40. This was after I inquired at 7:30. Then they were served without plates or a bowl for the Shells (we ordered the mussels and the calamari) so that delayed it further. Then the main entrees came (2 steaks, 1 pork shop and 1 ahi tuna) and after the mains were dropped off NO ONE came to ask how the food was. 10 minutes went by…Joseph came back and asked, to which my mom (it was her birthday) said her steak was cold. Too late, she ate half and he offered to reheat it but she was full at this point. They did discount the wine from $160 to $110 and take off a birthday bread pudding but even then the sever made no mention or apology, I had to call him on it. $580 spent for 4 on dinner and would not go back. PS: the decor is outdated and needs a refresh

Not the same exceptional experience we had enjoyed in the past. So loud in our section that we could not hear each other and couldn’t relax. Food was extremely salty to the extent we could not enjoy the meal. Very dark atmosphere and more of a corporate meeting environment- not for quiet special occasion date night!

Great food. Horrendously poor service. GM didn’t care. Go elsewhere. Honestly a pretend steakhouse; has the look and feel but service better anyplace else. Complained to the GM and he didn’t care.

Underwhelming at best. My daughter and I were visiting from out of town and wanted a great meal. The cheesplate was below average. The food runner didn't know the types of cheese and the crackers were stale and out of a box. My daughter ordered mussels and she thought there was a chunk of bread in it, turns out it was a tablespoon of uncooked garlic. The sauce already had too much garlic in it. My caeser salad had so many chili flakes and an obscene amount of Parmesan cheese that tasted like it came out of a bottle from the grocery store. The tuna tartar tasted like it was previously frozen and mushy. Dessert was good, not great. There were very few bites taken out if each course and we were never asked if anything was wrong. We pointed out the tablespoon of garlic and the server apologized. I called that evening to let them know how unhappy we were. I didn't want to express our disappointment in front of other diners. I was told I would get a follow up call from the general manager but that never happened. The manager on duty did say he would like to have us back but we were going home in 2 days and had dinner plans already set for our last night. We paid well over $200 for 2 people, 1 of whom is a 14 year old so no alcohol, and left hungry. Very disappointing for our "fancy night out" dinner.
