Stopped here on a whim for a drink after having dinner up the street and it was an amazing decision! Bar tender and chef were extremely friendly, front deck was super pleasant, and my cocktail was delicious. We will be back!
A great neighborhood hangout. Staff is helpful & friendly. Food is amazing. Great people watching spot. They have a small parking lot in front of the bar/restaurant. There is also a fairly large public paid parking lot behind their place - Ck aerial view of Google maps.
Amazing chicken nachos worth a try. Beer? They got plenty but noticed most people orders PBR. Chill small dive bar where local older folks hang out til 7pm and when the clock strikes at 8pm the young ones comes pouring in. Definitely worth checking out to chill or hang out or just a night cap.
I had a non-alcoholic apertif, which was good, but it cost $10! That’s pretty steep for a non-alcoholic drink! The atmosphere was really pleasant through!
This place was amazing. I love the outside component to this place. We ordered the pork and chicken nachos. The pork on the nachos was amazing. Nicely cooked. The hush puppy for good. The mac and cheese was amazing. We ordered the pork sandwich. The pork sandwich was good as well but if we could have had more of the tender meat that would have been great. We tried the collard green egg rolls and they were nice as well. Overall a great place.
The food, drinks and service were great. Their barbeque is especially good.
A chill local spot for drinks. Lots of outdoor seating. Although it's right on Franklin St, it feels secluded, tucked back under the trees. A great place with lots of character.
It's easy to miss the entrance which gives this bar a "Platform 9 and 3 quarters" vibe. It's a hidden gem with its own parking lot in downtown Chapel Hill. Very cute bar with minimal indoor seating and much more outdoor seating. Very courteous and friendly clientele, lots of regulars so be sure to make friends with one and they'll tell you all the gossip. Really cool place to be overall. Cocktails are heavily diluted so maybe stick to beer and shots, more bang for your buck that way. Staff is okay but get to know Sam, the owner, he is wonderful. Additional outdoor area called "Mule West" can be rented for private events.
Atmosphere: It is walking distance from the hotel, and it may seem like a typical college bar at first, but it has more of a "Cheers" atmosphere. Everyone knows everyone. It is a house converted into a restaurant/bar. Limited seating inside, with 4-5 seats at the bar and a few tables in the main area. Another room towards the back. I went during winter break with two buddies. It was still pretty steady, and we were the only ones that weren't regulars. We joked that we felt like we were sitting in someone's seat every time a "regular" came in but were made to feel welcomed. Service: Hands down, service was great! Shannon was accommodating, super friendly, and personable. As stated, we weren't her regulars, but she made us feel very welcomed and treated us like we were. She provided the same great level of service to us as she did everyone else. Food (and drinks): Their specialty "Mules" are a must try. Drink prices are very reasonable and have a decent selection to choose from. There are lots of BBQ options as well, but I opted for the Chili special. It came in a large bowl with hush puppies. 4.9 out of 5 only because I'm not a fan of beans, but it was still phenomenal! I'm definitely looking forward to going back here again.
I stay at hotel next door for business. Always bypass all other restaurants in area and make a point to get authentic North Carolina bbq with beans and greens…also pimento cheese and some hush puppies! I’m live in Pennsylvania. But from North Carolina…this is the real deal!! Always consistent. Warm friendly relaxed!! Great service!!! Really reasonable prices! A true hidden gem!!! Totally recommend!!
The fact that everyone is welcome at the Mule creates a wonderful vibe. The new Kickin’ Chicken sandwich is great. The bartenders are friendly and engaging; each one more beautiful than the last!
Best bar I’ve been to in Chapel Hill! Olive was the best bartender I’ve ever had, Big Sam gave me the full rundown on the best bbq on the menu, and I even got a history lesson from the owner. Can’t wait to go back! Last thing I know a lot of people don’t care about this, but it’s a pet peeve of mine when the limes are not cut well, and this place finally got it perfect!
Lots of great deck space for outdoor seating! Their customer service is awesome, they actually know and care about their patrons and seem to enjoy serving others, even after long arduous weekends. Love forever always
A big treat packed into a tiny house! You might miss it if you don't look hard enough - tucked away between the Chipotle and the Franklin Hotel. They have an AMAZING whiskey selection and are a great place to go when the weather is nice and you can sit on the porch. It is also fairly untouched by the undergrad crowd so it feels less like a daycare and more like a quality bar.
Dave Roberts, original owner of Cat'sCradle.com , has a great staff & full bar of nice wines, beer & liquor. The toppest of shelves Brown & White liquors are all there, next to Sam's menu. It starts with BBQ & ends in a sauce discussion. It's a loving pub - you will enjoy watching UNC basketball events there just for the atmosphere. Matt & Sam , even when it's packed are always in a good mood.
Enjoyed a great night there for a memorial celebration. Owner, and his staff went out of there way to ensure everyone had a wonderful time. All the food dishes were excellent and service was quick. Great place to eat and drink with friends or make new ones.
Update: So, now I'm a bit addicted to Acai bowls, haha. And I've tried them at 2 other places (Everbowl and Playa Bowls) and Purple Bowl is the best!! Original Review: Ok, I will admit this was my first Acai Bowl (How I got this far in life without one is a mystery...). It was an incredibly delicious and layered taste explosion. The creamy iciness of the base (Acai with Hemp protein and hemp milk) layered with crispy granola, sweet berries and bananas, chocolate chips, coconut and honey. Oh my! I thought they did a fabulous job. All of the ingredients were fresh, creamy and crunchy, not overly sweet. A huge plus was the ability to BYO, so I could maneuver around my dietary intolerances/allergies. I actually have not had an Acai Bowl prior to this because there were not enough base options, with nuts in too many places. The hemp milk and protein were a game changer for me. I would have liked sunflower butter, which would have made it perfect (only nut butters). The atmosphere is fine, seating is comfortable. I prefer a cozier atmosphere. The acoustics weren't great either with high ceilings and cement floors. But it was fine. But sure I'd go here to curl up with a good book though All in all, this was a positive experience and I would come neck when I am in the area.
I absolutely love Purple Bowl! The space, especially The Patio, has become my favorite chill spot in Chapel Hill. The atmosphere is clean, bright, and focused entirely on community wellness. The vanilla almond protein bowl is my favorite, and the friendly staff really makes me feel welcome. It’s exactly the kind of safe and healthy hub the Chapel Hill community needs. Highly recommend checking it out and coming to the recently re-instated trivia nights on Tuesdays!
I ordered an iced latte with vanilla, but when i took a sip i noticed there was no vanilla syrup. An employee was kind enough to fix my order! she was super nice and had no issue with adding vanilla syrup to my latte. I believe the employees name was Leslie. Great service from her!
Just got back from my first visit to California, where Açaí bowl places are ubiquitous. This one is easily the best in the area. It is as good as the best ones in CA (a small chain called Ubatuba if you’re curious). Specifically, the Purple Bowl gets the “classic” açaí base correct and also doesn’t make the bowls too sweet. The fruit is amazingly high quality also. If you’re not sure what to order, I’d start with the build your own bowl: classic base, strawberries and one other fruit, no honey, and chocolate chips and two other toppings. If you get the classic, strawberries, and chocolate, you won’t go wrong. I was going to post a photo of my bowl today but I ate it too quickly, and you don’t want to see a photo of an empty bowl. I’ll be back in a few days to update with a good photo. Great place to hang out or study. The parking lot is around the corner.
Purple Bowl is one of my favorite restaurants in the Triangle. Not only is the food fresh and delicious, but the staff are always kind and attentive, and the new location is beautiful! If you’re looking for delicious healthy food, look no further than Purple Bowl. The bowls are the best that I’ve had, and I tried one of the salads for the first time today and loved it. I also love that they are a locally owned family business! They have dedicated free parking in the back for guests, which is an added bonus in the town of Chapel Hill. Highly recommend Purple Bowl!
Awesome. Always consistent and delicious. Wonderful staff who are always friendly and helpful. Very clean everything and amazing fresh food that is always worth the trip. Exactly the same way it's always been plus new tasty additions to get excited about. Coffee and teas are delicious. Cannot wait to fly back again and again. Best of luck 🍀 and many more years.
When I’m in the mood for a snack, a healthy sweet treat, or just a reason to walk Franklin street, I go here. I just adore the acai bowls here. You choose the base (I always get original acai), two types of fruit (or one x2), and three toppings (including coconut, cacao, lavender, hemp seeds, flax seeds, etc.). Mm!
The Mule seems to attract a slightly more mature crowd, and has a relaxed atmosphere. We sat on the front patio and watched a fight on the big screen TV, enjoyed the peppery popcorn and piping hot southern egg rolls, while people chatted around us. My only word of caution: the AC unit inside dripped like crazy all over the floor, but the bartender didn't seem to mind the lawsuit-waiting-to-happen if someone broke their neck walking to the restroom! C'est la vie!
I walked here for lunch when I had a break for work, and enjoyed the good sized acai bowl. I sat outside on the patio, and the wait staff had no problem bringing my food quickly. I love that you can get a healthy lunch and/or a cup of coffee. Really cool concept. It’s nice and big inside, with primarily communal sitting. Nice and bright and modern. I love the fact that there is no sugar in the bowls, and the price was reasonable enough that I will visit again.
The acai bowls are very good, and the place has a nice vibe and convenient location. The avocado toast was delicious as well. You can find parking nearby (near the bike shop). The workers are also so nice! But I think the prices are a bit steep for what you're getting. The toast was more bare than I expected. And the bowl sizes should increase or the bowls should come with more toppings to make the bowl prices justified. But despite the price, this is an excellent place to get an acai bowl. I will definitely come again when I want an acai bowl!
I've really enjoyed the folks here. Very friendly atmosphere, great drinks and food, very cozy every time I come. However, I ran into an issue on my last visit. The bartender very apologetically told me that she accidentally charged me for someone else's drinks in addition to mine. Said she would issue a refund and handed me a receipt. I thought it would be no big deal. Ten days go by and I haven't seen the refund yet, so I stopped by to ask. The bartender on duty takes down my name and number and says the owner will get back to me ASAP. That was a week ago and I haven't heard anything nor have I gotten that refund.. I know everyone makes mistakes, but I would have hoped they would make an attempt to fix it.
Good indoor outdoor split. 3.5 star place, ranked 3 because of high average. Picture of avo toast says a lot… bread thin and crisp, avos more pretty than functional. Small portions for $9. Smoothie bowls are pretty good. Industrial interior. Free wifi and outlets. Have good bakery options & pressed juices.
This is a good location and the staff is friendly, but the food was disappointing, especially because of how positive so many reviews are. The BBQ didn’t have much flavor and came with a sweet sauce that tasted packaged (not NC style for those who want that). The sides were very so-so without much flavor. For 17 dollars per plate, I was very disappointed. I wouldn’t go back. This is an order at the counter place. The bartender is very kind— drinks are mediocre.
Really nice patrons. Family type atmosphere. Absolute worst pulled chicken sandwich I have ever had it was completely dry. The bbq sauce on the side was pure vinegar and the collard greens were horrible. Terrible food maybe you should drink first then eat lol
There isn't many options to bowls itself, the bowl melts in minutes, barely get any fruit and barely any nuttela if not any in my bowl. The bowl turned into a smoothie not even 5 minutes after. I would not recommend if you want a good quality bowl and to be full because here its just for the looks and not for satisfaction. I recommend going to playa bowl instead. Incredibly disappointed.
