Absolutely wonderful!!!! Amazing food, atmosphere, and experience. I dont know where to begin. Ok, first, RESERVATIONS. This place is small and popular and fills up quickly. We were able to get an early reservation for seats at the bar which was kind of a bonus since we got a show with the meal. We were able to watch the bartender create speciality cocktails and engage in conversation with him which added to the overall dining experience. There were so many cocktails on the menu it was hard to decide which one(s) to choose since so many were appealing. Tried the Junglee Janwar…with gin, watermelon, bone broth, honey, vermouth, and lime. What a combination, right? It was good but I would have liked more watermelon flavor. Next I went with Shalimar….another gin drink with rose vermouth, Cointreau, lemon, and ginger. This one was on the sweet side compared to the first. On to the real star of the evening…the food! We had the chef’s tasting experience, which I would highly recommend. It a 3 course meal with plenary to eat. Each dish was flavorful and tasted amazing. The appetizer included three different dishes and each stood out. The flavors were all different and uniquely delicious. I ate very potato, piece of cabbage, and everything else that was served. I could have continued to eat the appetizers served a my meal they were so tasty. We had the butter chicken which was hands down the best ever butter chicken I have ever had. I never knew chicken could melt in your mouth….but it did! Heavenly! We also had a beef dish, potatoes, spinach. All elevated to flavors I cant put into words. And of course naan. And there were all sorts of chutneys and dipping sauces. All so good. There was so much food we had leftovers (yippie) and the next day everything was just as flavorful. I can’t wait to go back!!!

Love the overall vibe of the restaurant!!! A great fusion between Pakistani and southern cuisine. We tried their Charga Wings, Samosa Chaat and Chicken Karahi. They have an interesting mocktail menu as well. The food was exceptional. The Charga wings were on the top of our list.

This was our first experience with Pakistani food and it was amazing. Service was great. The food and drinks were excellent. The decor was very cool. We went on a Saturday evening and this is a fairly small restaurant so I would recommend making reservations, available through opentable. Everything we had was delicious. I would absolutely come back. The cocktails and mocktails had some very interesting flavors you do not find at othe bars or restaurants. They do offer gluten-free and had options for additional items that were not listed as GF.

What an awesome experience we had! My husband and I went for Happy Hour and were blown away. The smashburger is an absolute must, but overall each of the dishes were so full of flavor and artfully plated. The cocktails were wonderful too- I loved my cucumber gin & tonic, which was the bartender’s special of the night. Service was fantastic too. Highly recommend checking them out! Can’t wait to go back for dinner!

I don’t typically leave reviews but I felt compelled to put in a good word for this amazing restaurant. The food was absolutely delicious, the atmosphere was dim and relaxing and the service was outstanding. If I lived closer I would frequent Ma’am Saab.

The atmosphere is absolutely a vibe. Gorgeous decorations. Even the utensils are adorable. Brittany was our server chefs kiss. Amazing service. Very knowledgeable and prompt. The food was 10 stars. There is so much flavor in your mouth. Im still think about it. Absolutely go.

Tried this place for the first time last week for their Happy Hour! Everything was 10/10 amazing when it comes to service, atmosphere and the food. The happy hour menu had the perfect variety of options for anyone to try or dip your taste buds into Pakistani food. Definitely will be returning!

As soon as you open the door to this establishment you get hit with the smell of the spices. I made a reservation ahead of time and I’m thankful that I did because the tables were turning over quickly. I ordered the goat, and my friend got the buttered chicken. The goat was unbelievable, and then I tried the butter chicken and it was even better. I feel like you can’t order anything “wrong” on this menu. We ended up taking food to go because the portions were also so big. The service was the cherry on top and our server was amazing. The sweetest person and made great recommendations.

My friends and I went to Ma’am Saab last night and had an excellent time. Our waitress, Tuba, was exceptional and provided a lot of clarity as we were all pretty novice with Pakistani food. The highlight for me was the zucchini and the butter chicken, but I really liked everything on the menu. It all came out share style and we tore it up to say it to say the least. The naan was incredible and soft and a perfect side to ensure we were apart of the clean your plate club. The chili garlic chutney tickled me and the cheese was pretty fantastic, too. I wasn’t expecting to see that. it was a night of flavor explosions. I had a sip of my friend’s apple cider old-fashioned and that was delicious as well. Good beer selection and truly great service. We will be coming back.

Had the best time on my first visit to Ma’am Saab. The space is decorated beautifully. Dark, intimate and trendy. We did the chef’s tasting and so had quite a lot from the menu. All tasty, surprisingly while I was obsessed with the naan dipped in butter chicken the chicken wings they have here are my perfection standout. I had a great time with new friends and a part of that was the standout service from Jimmy. He has lovely energy and made sure we were taken care of. Wonderful dinner!

I’ve been to Ma’am Saab a few times now and am always pleased after a visit. The vibe is funky and cool, leaves you feeling transported to a different world. The dishes I’ve tried are all bursting with flavor and generous portions. I’ll be back!

Ohmygosh this place is SO GOOD! First of all, I love the decor and the movies playing on the wall! It sure get LOUD on here, so I probably wouldn't recommend for a super romantic spot or a first date, but the vibe is so fun! We ordered the tasting menu and I'm so glad we did! We got so much food, we kept eating for days. Now, I don't know the name of everything we got, but I can tell you the Butter Chicken is NO JOKE! You can literally taste the butter! The lamb patties were also delicious, as was everything else! Our server was incredible, I wish I could remember her name, but she was also fun, really made the evening a real night out. We'll definitely be back!

Really good!! The food was awesome, especially the Biryani - we got the lamb and chickpea and both were excellent. They come out looking like little pies! So cute!! Be warned that the lamb one was too spicy for some at our table, they do not ask your preferred spice level so just beware! We also had the veggie samosas which were dank and the puffed rice was funky but good! The staff was friendly and service was prompt, we will definitely be back!

Amazing atmosphere and genuine staff. I’ve always had a great experience here. The new happy hour menu is bomb. That smash burger 🔥. I really like that the Bartender’s Creation changes by the day. It keeps it fun. I have to get back for the pineapple Negroni.

No words can express our love for this amazing food and experience. Don't be scared of something new. Flavor explosion with every bite. Let the staff guide your journey!

We did the preset kitchen menu and it was fantastic. For $65 per person you get more food than you can possibly eat with 3 courses, not including dessert. The preset menu is required if you have 7 or more guests, however if you're a large group or not, I highly recommend just doing the preset. Let them cook and I promise you won't regret it. We were there to celebrate a birthday and it was incredible evening. The service was also fantastic, staying on top of our needs and even asking us if we were ready in between courses as to not rush us. This was a place I’ve been wanting to try for a while and it absolutely loved up. And again, get the preset menu!! It’s how they want to serve you, and you will not regret it.

As another reviewer said, as soon as you walk into Ma'am Saab you are hit with a smell of spices and you immediately know you are about to be in for a good time. We ordered the butter chicken, seasonal vegetables which for the night was a Pakistani street corn in a butter sauce, some butter naans, samosa chat, masala chai martinis and the bihari kebab (beef because the lamb was out). I could go intricately into the flavor profiles of each dish, the savoriness of the butter chicken, the smokiness of the kebab, the spicy and sweet combo of the samosa chat or the aromas of the masala chai Martinis or you could just get up to this point in the review and go and make a reservation. Shout outs to Tooba our server. She was remarkably patient with the many questions we had and took her time to explain the many dishes on the menu. Perfect score, go check it out!

Amazing food and dining experience! My husband and I visited Charleston for 4th of July and I could not recommend this place enough! We loved it so much. The butter chicken is to die for! Everything is amazing. My husband got the steak. The mango beer is awesome too. We live in Georgia and I wish we live here so I can eat here all the time! The vibe is also really aesthetically appealing. Can’t wait to visit again.

*Foodie review* We moved to Charleston three months ago and have tried many many (many) recommended restaurants thus far… Ma’am Saab is certainly on the short list of favorites, if not THE favorite. Unique atmosphere, great service, well balanced drinks and most importantly GREAT food. The butter chicken was superb (my husband would take an IV bag of the sauce) and the lamb samosas are a new addiction. We will be back very soon.

What a lovely experience we had at @maamsaabchs it’s a beautiful Pakistani comfort food spot with a perfect party vibe with the big bright bar and the room mixes the past with the futuristic, filled with traditional Pakistani decorations but also technicolor art created by artificial intelligence. A big kudos to @maryamghaznavi and @raheelgauba for creating such a wonderful experience for people to try the authentic Pakistani cuisine and specially get a glimpse on the large screen with a montage of their world! I’m from Mumbai and the Masala Bhel legit took me back to my area, some more recommendations were the Karachi wali spiked chai, khatta meetha, samosa chaat and special mention to the spicy garlic chutney with their tikka was fireeee! Special thanks to @burnsgirljac for making it special and fun for us! Im coming back soon for more things in the menu 😍😍😍

Stopped by Ma’am Saab to check out their new lunch menu. Huge fan. The butter chicken is amazing. So was the shakkar kandi chaat and the aloo frankies. I can’t wait to go back and try more of their dishes. My go to cocktail, the junglee janwar.

Our recent visit to Charleston, South Carolina we stumbled upon Ma’am Saab, a Pakistani restaurant. Bun Kabab was exceptional in its flavors and textures. It’s rare to find such a well-executed dish that balances spices and succulence so effortlessly. The Butter Chicken’s rich, creamy sauce paired with tender chicken. Bihari Kabab was one of the best I’ve ever had. The kababs were perfectly spiced, tender, and grilled to perfection, making each mouthful a memorable experience. Bartender Kay’s friendliness, knowledge, and helpfulness greatly enhanced our dining experience. Ma’am Saab is a must-visit for anyone looking to explore the rich flavors of Pakistani cuisine. It’s a restaurant where the food, atmosphere, and service all come together to create a truly remarkable dining experience.

A Soulful Desi Experience in Charleston: Ma’am Saab What a fantastic find! We stumbled upon Ma’am Saab casually after checking a few reviews while in Charleston, South Carolina, and it turned out to be an absolute hidden gem. It is rare to find a place that feels so authentic to desi roots while offering something that feels refreshingly different after ages. The ambience is extremely beautiful and warm, and the dining experience is elevated by the stunning copper ware. The royal elegance of the place truly stands out and makes the meal feel incredibly special. As for the food, the Qeema Pav was incredibly flavorful and the Taz-E-Sabzi (VG) was perfectly cooked, but the absolute showstopper was the Aloo Methi. It’s a dish I wouldn’t usually order, but here, it was the main highlight of the meal. We were left wondering how someone could put such magic into every single dish - the flavors were just incredible. 😍 highly recommended

Our dinner at Ma'am Saab was an absolute delight. We decided to come on Valentine's day for something a little different as we hadn't had the pleasure of trying Pakistani food. Our server was helpful and informative, making sure we didn't miss any fan favorites. My husband had the Lamb Biryani, which was so delicious he contemplated coming back to have it again every night for the next week. Other favorites included the Butter Chicken, Qeema Pav with Cholay over butter buns, and Paratha, which tastes like naan and a croissant had a love child. Wonderful food accompanied by a great atmosphere, and friendly attentive service. It was certainly a dinner to remember, and we will be back many times in the future.

We loved our experience here. The food is just fantastic. We couldn't decide so we chose to do the chef's tasting menu and everything that came out was delicious. We got to try all the sauces, loads of different dishes, all so unique. It reminds me of Indian food, but different flavor profiles. The bar tender on duty was so kind and full of knowledge about the menu.

Excellent choice for us. The aromas on arriving were intoxicating. We sat at the bar and ordered. One chicken dish, one beef dish. Both delicious. We would recommend this to any adventurous diner who wishes to experience ethnic food.

This was a truly delightful experience. If you like wings, you have to get their chargha wings. These were by far the best wings I’ve ever had. The pakora chaat was something new for me and was delicious. Marco was also fantastic. We will be back again soon.

If ever there was a 10/10 dining experience, this is it. The food is incredibly flavorful and delicious, and something you can't just find anywhere. Every dish is a masterpiece. The decor/ambiance/music adds to the experience. Everything is well thought out and perfectly executed. Having been a fan of this family owned restaurant for years (and their previous operation at Workshop) - I can vouch for the fact that this is truly a labor of love for the owners/chefs and they treat Ma'aam Saab and it's sister restaurant Malika as a great parent would treat their baby. I can't say enough good things. Keep up the incredible work. I can't express enough how every single dish I've ever had from Ma'am Saab has made my wife and I say "WOW" after the first bite. What an experience for your mouth!

Dustin, Marco, Rahil, and Mama provided exemplary service along with mind-blowingly good lamb biryani and butter naan. The raita sauce rules, and the overall presentation of my meal was decadent. Excellent location on Meeting Street with easy access to shopping on King Street. I sat at the bar with only minimal wait time. They were booked up with reservations yet still made room for me. Very sophisticated atmosphere and it smells heavenly too when you walk in!

Not sure why it took us so long to try Maam Saab but I’m so glad we did! The food was simply fantastic. We tried an assortment (all tasty) but my personal favorites were the chicken Karahi and zucchini fritters. The interior of the restaurant provides a great setting for a night out with vibrant colors and art.

The food here is phenomenal and authentic. Rich, bold flavors with fresh ingredients! Not very spicy, but you can ask for their housemade sauce to kick it up a notch. You can not go wrong eating here.

Ma’am Saab was a standout dining experience during our time in Charleston. The restaurant offers modern Pakistani cuisine that strikes a rare balance—deeply rooted in tradition while thoughtfully elevated with a contemporary twist. We visited as a family with our kids (picky preadolescent eaters) and my husband, and everyone genuinely enjoyed the meal. The flavors were rich and comforting without being overwhelming or overly experimental, which can be difficult to achieve in South Asian fusion spaces. Everything felt intentional, authentic, and approachable. From the food to the ambiance and overall experience, Ma’am Saab delivered on every level. Nothing but positive things to say—we would absolutely return!

Phenomenal. Butter chicken was the absolute best. Layers of spices, unbelievable texture, top quality ingredients. We had four entrees, a side and a drink. Every dish was amazing. We are planning our order for our return visit! We’ve eaten all around the world. This restaurant is in our top five! Highly recommend.

I love to grab dinner here whenever i am downtown. It is a great spot for before or after a College of Charleston basketball game. The food is delicious and authentic. The service is on point. Getting authentic Pakistan or Indian cuisine can be challenging in this town but they pull it off so well. Everyone talks about the Butter Chicken (which is excellent) but the Biryani cannot be missed. The cocktails are also well curated and highly recommended. Enjoy!

Edit - returned: i learned some dishes like the goat (from before/below) are seasonal. The menu does change slightly. We shared the Samosa and pakora chaat. Samosas have a bit of kick! We thought they were the spiciest thing all four people ate. The Pakora was intensely flavorful. rest of us got butter chicken, chicken tikka, and Chicken Karahi. Tikka seemed a bit bland compared to the rest. The Chicken Karahi was mentioned to be “the hottest on the menu” and to my surprise was not even as hot as the samosas. It was incredible! Extremely rich and flavorful. Second time did not disappoint. Food is not very spicy, but do expect very flavorful and rich dishes. Not the largest portions, but filling nonetheless. Worth a visit! _____ compared to Malika Canteen, more refined and sophisticated. Every dish the 4 of us had was outstanding. The butter chicken is probably the least spiced and most approachable. The best dish hands down was the Goat with Naan bread, which eats like a braised lamb shank - super tender, incredible flavor. Most dishes have a base level of spice / heat, as should be expected for this cuisine but I would not call any dish legitimately spicy hot. Unless very sensitive to spice, should not be an issue.

M
Milka K

delicious. So much flavor in everything we tried. Couldn’t choose a favorite. We did the chefs choice with several different entrees, it was good but honestly, I don’t know if price-worthy. A little pricey for different types of side dishes and 2 meats. Nevertheless, loved the experience. One of the meats at the end was stiff and dry

Q

How do you describe a restaurant that deals in only one commodity, spice. Well, it was certainly spicy. Spicy but good. There’s a lot of meat on the menu and, did I mention, a lot of spice. We were a party of four, two of whom were vegetarians. For them, “pickins” were scarce, particularly if you were not a fan of hot and spicy. For meat eaters, you were in carnivore heaven. Everything from goat, to lamb, pork and beef and all hot and spicy. We shared the eggplant fritters and they were only mildly hot so everyone had a taste. They were excellent. The vegetarians were limited to a couple of rice dishes and naan. There were seasonal vegetables but we warned that they were hot, even when ordered with less spice. The Butter Chicken was excellent, tandoori chicken in a thick butter golden curry. The Bihari kebab was very good as well, tender ribeye marinated in yogurt with ginger garlic. Both dishes were a an 8 on a hot spicy scale of 1 to 10. The naan and paratha were perfect. This is a very specialized restaurant and if you are not into Packistan/Indian cuisine you are going to be disappointed. But if authentic subcontinent food is your thing, you have found the right place. Decor is subdued and very pleasant and, wonder of wonders, noise level was relatively low and you could actually converse at normal levels. Service was efficient and not, in your face, overly friendly. There is a parking garage close by and the restaurant is easy walking distance from the market and downtown hotels. It has a full bar and a decent selection of wine and beer. Overall, this was a good meal in pleasant surroundings with good service. Did I mention that the food was spicy? The restaurant gets 3.5 clams (4 stars equivalent ) on the coveted Five Quahog Rating Scale.

The vibe is absolutely wonderful! The food is perfection! Bottom line, they need to hire more staff. We made sure to have an early reservation and had our hearts set on the chef’s tasting menu. We were told it takes an hour and a half for the tasting menu. It took our server about 20 minutes to greet us, and we were not able to order what we wanted. What we did order was absolutely amazing, and we look forward to the Chef’s menu again, possibly at the bar. The drinks were delicious, but again we sat with empty drinks for quite awhile and probably would have ordered another round or two. We will definitely return to this restaurant because the food and atmosphere was so good!.

A great place for delicious food, they have kinks to work out though. More reservations than space, and a kitchen going very slow made for a rough experience for many guests. We ordered all our food right away then waited 45 minutes for entrees. When finally served the waitress actually said “please hurry we need this table” paying $40-$50 a plate this is a bit shocking to hear. Really can’t complain though as anyone arriving for 7:30 or later reservations had to wait over 30 minutes or got turned away.

Food was good with an interesting spice palate. The restaurant decor was interesting and the service was very good. If you want to try cuisine similar to Indian but with a twist, give this a try

I ordered a Vesper cocktail, and the bartender had to look up the recipe. While not every classic is frequently requested, the Vesper is a well-known staple, and one would expect a bit more familiarity in a cocktail-driven setting. The food overall was good. I ordered the chhed with butter sauce the flavors were enjoyable, though the cheese leaned slightly dry. I requested additional sauce to balance the dish, but it arrived about 20 minutes later, after I had already finished eating. The sauce remained untouched, yet it was initially added to the bill. That said, the butter naan was outstanding warm, perfectly soft with a slight chew, and generously brushed. It was easily one of the highlights of the meal and showcased the kitchen at its best. When I mentioned the delay, the bartender explained it was due to Valentine’s weekend volume. To their credit, the team handled the recovery appropriately: they removed the sauce from the bill and offered a complimentary glass of wine as a goodwill gesture. Overall, the kitchen shows real potential, and service recovery was handled professionally. With tighter timing and stronger cocktail knowledge behind the bar, the experience would feel far more polished and cohesive.

The food lacked authenticity, though passable in taste. I can see wanting to cater to your clientele’s intolerance for spice, but please take on the responsibility of cultivating their taste as well. I was looking forward to the biriyani, but it was a huge disappointment. If it doesn’t look like Biriyani, doesn’t smell like Biriyani and doesn’t have the ingredients of a Biriyani, can you still call it a Biriyani? The Lahore chole was not what we expected. We had to throw it out after we brought it home. I’ve never seen kadai chicken served in a rich tomato base. However, it gets a pass because it was well seasoned. The naan was clearly not from a tandoori….The butter paneer tasted good, especially since it was loaded up with butter. The service wasn’t terrible, but it took the staff the better part of the evening to clear a table full of dirty dishes right next to where we were seated. Did not make for a pleasant evening. I wish I could give this restaurant a better review since the manager/owner was so pleasant and charming.

S
Sobia Jahangir

The food is missing back home pure Pakistani taste. I find butter chicken a little sweet in taste. Beef biryani can be better. Presentation was well-done. A ready made frozen naan is a thumbs down. Ambience was great though.

J
James Martin

The food was great. Price per serving was a little high. We ordered entrees with our drinks. My water glass never reached empty because the lady in charge of water was very attentive. However, customers should NEVER be pressured to leave the table because of a slow kitchen or reservation software improperly programmed! And that is what happened. That's just rudeness, not "Southern hospitality." Do you want me to order a $12 slice of cheesecake or not? Very underwhelmed with the host station staff.

J
Jill Foster

We had high expectations for this place and ultimately left feeling very disappointed. We had ordered food from their sister restaurant before and really enjoyed it so we expected to have a similar level of enjoyment at this place. The food was fine. Nothing special, outside of the wing appetizer, which we both really enjoyed! Our cocktails were uninspiring and our entrées were just okay. The plates were kind of small portions and not exceptional. My husband‘s lamb biryani dish was over $30 and it just felt a bit high for the quality. In addition, we got our cocktails and noticed that they didn’t even bother to mix the bourbon drink my husband ordered. We felt the service was lacking. We had to wait quite a while for a server to come by and give us water or take our drink orders (15 min after we were sat). Our server also rarely checked in which with us, which wasn’t a huge deal, but felt odd. After we were seated, we noticed a few other parties coming after us and wait 20+ minutes for tables that they had reservations at. One of those parties even received their food before we did somehow. It was a disjointed experience overall and I don’t think we would return.

R
Raja Chandra

Didn't live up to the expectations or the reviews that were posted here. Booked it through chase sapphire exclusive tables - definitely not worth it. Went on a Saturday evening with reservation, but it was mostly empty. Service was not up to the mark. Only 2 servers and one bartender for the night. One of them gave us the menu and literally said "I can go over the dishes, but it is probably easier for you to just read it yourselves". The biggest disappointment however was the food - definitely not worth the prices. Qeema paav: 2/5. Comes with channa on the paav. Qeems itself had a slightly sweet taste to it. Samosa chaat: 3/5 Paneer Tikka: 4/5 Lamb biryani: 1/5 - felt like bland lamb/potato gravy mixed over rice. This isn't biryani. Taj-e-sabzi: 2/5 Mocktails: Electric rickshaw: 3/5 Truck stop cooler: 2/5

M
Michael Chalfant

Food was great as always but there was a big lipstick smudge on my cup, I drank before I noticed it. I told the waiter and wasn't offered any kind of compensation. Maybe I'm wrong, but I feel like something that disgusting should be handled with more grace than a simply "oops sorry." Comp a drink or something, especially since I had already drank from it. I was really disgusted and it kind of spoiled the entire meal for me.

B
Ben Chesler

Good was on point. But we had a very weird experience at the end of our meal. After an hour and fifteen minutes, we asked to see the dessert menu. We were told “you don’t have time for dessert, your table is up”. Which is rude to begin with. But when I pointed out that their own reservation website says parties of 2 will have 1 hour 30 minutes to eat, so we should have 15 minutes left, the server responded that it doesn’t match up with their reservation system and we had to leave. Such an unpleasant way to end a very nice dinner.

R
Robert Torrealba

We had a nice dinner here, but the next day while eating leftovers, my wife bit directly into a rock that was in the food. We notified the restaurant so they could address it and prevent it from happening again. While they responded, they did not seem especially concerned or willing to make it right, which was disappointing.

M
Mayank and Bina S.

No star for this restaurant. Vegetarian options were limited no complains . Whatever options they had was not appealing. Aloo methi was only aloos and oily . They charged for onion and mirchi not acceptable. Saag paneer thali ehhhh . Naan was store bought warmed and served . Sweet potatoe cholay rice was more rice than anything else . Salad was the only dish that was different and good . I’ll give probably 1 point if that’s even a thing . Time energy money waste!!! Go to Rivayat instead .
