Hubby and I didn't have a reservation for Sunday roast, we literally walked in. Staff were lovely. Roast Dinner was absolutely fabulous with plenty of vegetables, there was no issue with "extra gravy" on the side...I love gravy! Couldn't recommend The Tavern enough for a great roast dinner in Central Cheltenham. We literally rolled out!
Better late than never!! We had a fantastic family experience at The Tavern on Christmas Day.. .20+adults /children , for their set Christmas day lunch menu. The food was expertly cooked...all the traditional stuff...with some twists.....and lots of extras. All food was served in bowls and platters and put on the table for us to serve ourselves, which really suited us. There was ample...it just kept coming. ..we could have fed another 10 people!!!....so yes...we took lots of doggy bags home! With some of us having never eaten out on Christmas Day before...it was noted that it did feel like we were 'at home'.....completely relaxed in the atmosphere and ambience at the Tavern. I don't live in Cheltenham, but will definitely be returning to the Tavern at some point again this year. 10/10 from all of us....well done for catering so expertly for such a large number. All staff were so professional and so accommodating.....nothing was too much.
Went to Cheltenham with my mother for a weekend and found this lovely place for Sunday lunch. Just a 3min walk from the Promenade/Christmas market. Lovely venue, warm staff and beautiful food.
Went for lunch today and had the most epic Caesar salad!! The virgin mojitio and Rosemary salt fries were also a hit. Will definitely be back.
We have been to the Tavern about 4 or 5 times over the past 3 years. The food is very good and the service is always good. Today we went just for a drink and it's a very welcoming place. The staff are very chatty. Worth trying for anyone who hasn't been before I went at the weekend for lunch. We both has the steak tartare for starter. Then I had the massive rack of ribs for main and my girlfriend had the lamb shank. We finished it off with a slice of cheese cake between us. Very good service and the food was very nice. We also had a nice bottle of Malbec and they serve Deya there which is a great pint. Update. I've now been to the Tavern about 10 times and it's great. I love that they use local beers. They have recently changed their menu to have a large amount of small plates but still with the option for main meals. Great food and great atmosphere. We took our 8 month old baby with us recently and they were more than welcoming.
Ordered the French Dip, but they should call it the French Dreamy Delicious. I ate it a week ago and I'm still thinking about it. 100% written by a human because no AI can truly appreciate how good this tastes and would write a positive review so poorly. Anyway the staff are great too.
Had a great lunch here. Really good proce for an EPIC French Dip! Service was spot on. Great selection of beers. And £5 frozen Margaritas?!?!?! Hell Yes!
Really friendly staff and a good selection of food on the menu. The sharing Camembert was absolutely fantastic on a cold evening. Sadly they had run out of the, glazed spiced aubergine however just another reason to come back for another visit.
Amazing. Called in because we were looking for craft beer and a snack. Ended up having an amazing meal. Butternut squash and goat's cheese risotto was so delicious. Loved the pine nuts. My husband said the Korean wings were the best he had ever had and the chilli cheese fries were good too. Oh!! and the beer was excellent!! Great service. Good atmosphere. Would definitely recommend!!!
We had a fantastic family meal and the whole team looked after us. We had a lot of comped requirements - a disabled wheelchair user, a high chair and 11 of us! They have a simple pre-order system which kept me updated on what people had ordered and the food was awesome! Really recommend this place, all my family was impressed! Tom was a star coming back to me with email confirmations and everything was perfect for us when we arrived. If in doubt, book it!!!!
Whilst the Tavern is a brilliant pub to visit for a great night out, we also love to book brekkies and lunches here too for scrumptious food. A lovely place to meet friends for a weekend brekkie - pancakes especially are our kids favourite - but all the food is delicious. The lunches are also fantastic and we couldn't fault the meal or the service we had recently. If in a big party, its lovely to book upstairs if you can as it gives you your own private space. Photos attached to show our lovely meals. Highly recommend a visit.
One of my favourite restaurant, The Tavern is known for its interesting and mouth watering range of foods; from burgers to chicken wings of various sorts to charred-grilled steaks and finger licking sides, and also, I must mention the amazing puddings from which the sticky toffee ice cream sandwich is my go to! We have been dining there on multiple occasions and each time we was fully satisfied. The food is always fresh and very well presented. I guess, they must have the best chefs in town 😉
Incredible Sunday Roast - we had the pork belly and roast beef. Pork belly had super crispy crackling, and the pork itself was soft and fell apart. Roast beef was equally top quality, and all the usual trimmings were superb too. Highly recommended!
Beautiful Sunday roast sharing platter. Really made my wife feel special on Mother’s Day. Big thanks to the staff.!
Best Sunday roast in Cheltenham, ordered trio of meat roast, pork belly with crunchy skin, tender and moist chicken, rump was lovely too. The sides were beautifully cooked, big portion, worth the price.
Staff are very helpful and friendly..great service and good selection of food.. young lady singing was very good made a good night even better..dog friendly
Thankfully the old menu is returning. Tavern burger (without cheese) was absolutely first class and the perfectly cooked pink meat was juicy. Good selection of lager
An absolute go to pub in town. Like putting on a comfy pair of shoes, nice shoes ! Food is always top draw the wings stand out, done in three different sauces, I would get a potion of each flavour for the table. Relaxed atmosphere. Does a great brunch on weekends also, staff do a great job. Steak is no joke.
Love the place. Food is great, the staff is friendly and very understanding. Awesome burgers and wings! Just didn't enjoy ribs but that's all, definitely would go again and recommend.
We had a great Sunday lunch here at the Tavern. There was a great varied menu. Something for everyone. Staff were so accommodating and made us feel totally relaxed and welcome.
Always tasty food here. Quick service and you don't have to have a big meal - it's also ideal for a pit stop for fries and a glass of wine. The soufflés are amazing.
Staff went above and beyond to accommodate and when the food did arrive it was incredible. Best Caesar salad in Cheltenham :)
Great food, great drinks and a lovely place I keep going back too.
Relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff who work hard to make sure everything is just right 👍🏼 AND fabulous food with great flavours and top notch ingredients. Would highly recommend!
Delicious food, fantastic atmosphere, would 100% go back.
All in Sunday roast, amazing!!
The food was great, especially the ceaser salad. It was busy and had a great atmosphere and the staff were super friendly and attentive. Couldn't fault it x
Probably the best service I've ever received when celebrating someone's birthday! The upstairs area was a great place to sit for a special occasion and the server went above and beyond to make my husband's evening special, which we both really appreciated. I also wanted to highlight how understanding the server and chef was about my allergies which doesn't happen in a lot of restaurants, which made me feel very safe when eating. The food was such a high standard, affordable, came out quickly and very very tasty! I will be recommending The Tavern to everyone I know and will definitely be back soon, thank you so much for a great evening! Also I don't know the name of the two servers we had but it said 'Sam' on the receipt but a massive thank you to the both of you, we really really appreciated the kindness!
Lovely place, great atmosphere, staff were so friendly and food was beautiful! Highly recommend
Since the renovation this pub has been fantastic! Amazing promotions with the 20% of mon-fri, amazing new vibe and aesthetic, great pub quiz, live music, great drinks cocktails and amazing food. Whats not to like !
Just had a meal here with my wife, Great service from ALL the staff and food was scrumptious,
We loved having lunch here! Sam was absolutely lovely and attentive throughout. The Sunday Roast was incredible, easily one of the best we’ve ever had, if not THE best. We only wish we lived closer so we could come back soon!
Top class all round. Our group of 8 had a wonderful Saturday evening with time for a drink at the bar beforehand and no sense of being rushed. The food was some of, if not , the best Cheltenham has to offer! Highly recommend 👌 Big thanks to Morgan and Sam!
Great food and friendly service. Weekday discount offer on food is an added bonus.
Great place for a Sunday Roast! We had Bloody Mary's and they were so tasty and made to order!
Very friendly bar staff. We enjoyed a few drinks here, nice atmosphere
We were so lucky to have the first roast since opening and every mouthful was absolutely delicious. The beef was cooked to perfection and the Yorkshires were incredible! The staff were so lovely, friendly and tentative. We absolutely cannot wait to go back!!
Without a shadow of doubt the one of best Sunday lunch in town with attentive service in great surroundings. The ‘The All In’ roast was a fab sharing platter cooked to perfection and beautifully presented. If Calsberg did Sunday lunch venue it would be called The Tavern
Very friendly and accommodating staff. Excellent menu of well cooked, presented and served food. Looks like a good choice for drinks too but we were all driving so I can't tell you about that!
We had a booking for 20 people for their Christmas dinner menu. The food was delicious and at a very reasonable price, great potion size. Atmosphere was lovely and staff were very kind and helpful.
Great place to meet for a drink. Nice environment. I cannot rate the food as I haven't eaten here. Prices at the bar that little bit more than other places in Cheltenham.
We celebrated my daughter’s 30 th birthday last Saturday at The Tavern in Cheltenham. We had the room upstairs and it was wonderful. The service was excellent and nothing was too much trouble! The waitress serving us was cheerful, helpful and professional. Sam the manager is approachable, thoughtful and experienced.Everything went so well and the food was so delicious! Would highly recommend!
Went on Easter Monday and it was so quiet. The French dip sandwich was a misleading as it came in a hotdog bun but was still very tasty and filling. Steak was juicy and flavoursome the salad was actually seasoned well too. The potatoes could have been crispier in my opinion.
Food was good. Slightly greasy but apart from that everything was good. Aspall on tap! Staff were friendly. Dog friendly! Clean bathrooms and clean bar area. Recommend for a group of mates after work vibe. Atmosphere was a bit dead because it was a Tuesday. No faults with anything and would definitely go back again.
Definately go for Tuesdays pie night and you will not be disappointed or be able to do more than waddle! We definately left fappy (fatty and happy). 4 starts as we had issues with ingredients for drinks, dirty plates and cutlery, and service was a bit slow. But putting this down to just an off night and will not stop me from coming back again.
Amazing Sunday roast. Perfect pork belly. £24. Service lets this place down unfortunately, probably because they add a 10% service charge to the bill regardless. That whole tip should go straight to the chef.
Food was good but it was let down by the very slow service (although friendly!). That being said for a beer with friends, it is a nice atmosphere when it comes to town pubs!
I would firstly like to say that I don't write many reviews on places I have visited, but thought a few things needed mentioning on this visit. We booked a table for 12.45 and arrived at 12.30, we're seated no problem, but my wife was sat in direct sunlight which was hurting her eyes, so we asked politely to be moved to another table. Which eventually we were, felt like we were a nuisance. Anyway we brushed that off. And ordered the sharing Sunday lunch which looked lovely. And we had read other reviews which said so. It arrived and to be honest it was just warm , would have liked it hotter. Especially as it was sat on a board and with no other ways of keeping it warm. The food itself didn't seem to have any seasoning and tasted boring, I wish to point out that I have had Sunday lunches at many different places and this tasted bland, I added salt but didn't make much difference. The beef was raw for me and my wife, I like medium beef not pink would be nice to have been given a choice. The carrot was split lengthways so we had a carrot between us, same as the parsnip. The pig in blanket was a bit enimic. 3 things which were lovely...the roast potatoes, the cauliflower cheese and the pork, although would have also been nice to have crackling on the pork. I went didn't like the looks of the chicken so didn't try that. We also felt a little rushed and a slightly not a ease, because the waitress seemed abrupt and not overly friendly, although she did seem happier to talk about the oysters etc...which were being served. We asked for the service charge to be removed and also suggested that the food could have been hotter. The drinks were nice, negroni lovely, espresso martini nice bit costly wine nice. Don't think we will be going back. But would be nice if this review could be acted upon.
Was really looking forward to eating here but was a bit disappointed. The atmosphere and service was decent, super cosy, but food was very salty and on the pricier end for what we were served.
The barman completely ignored my partner and I, when we came into the pub today. He would not even make eye contact with my partner. We walked out, and will not return.
