Too notch service and atmosphere! The bar and restaurant were both packed and exploding with energy. We had a reservation and although they were very busy our knowledgeable server did not rush us, taking his time to show us all of the different cuts of meats. Our drinks were prompt and my martini was excellent. The carrot cake is enormous and delicious, definitely something to remember.
We were able to get a table right away at about 9:30pm on a Wednesday, the place was packed. It started smoothing out while we were there, we stayed about an hour. Either of us were not super hungry so we split the Chicago cut and had it medium rare. It included two side salads, as well we ordered two sides the roasted mushrooms and bacon bourbon Brussels sprouts. When seated we were served a generous bread selection that was accompanied with a very generous portion of butter. The sides were good, and the steak was a great cut of meat. Service was fast, and just the right amount of attentive. The vibe is cosy and casual. Good for a non formal night out, business casual, a good setting for a low key date night or catch up with family or friends. We didn’t get dessert, but from what I could see a slice a cake could feed a village! The carrot cake looked killer! There are pics in other reviews for reference. For two ppl: a steak, two sides, a cocktail, and a soda came to $150.
Very classic steakhouse vibes and food. We brought our kids who waste food all the time so that was a huge mistake as this place is expensive. The porterhouse was cooked to perfection. The filet with their signature peppercorn crust was like eating burnt toast to me. I will not be ordering that again. The sides were all very good. Because the filet was not to my liking, they took a couple of drinks off the bill, that was a nice compromise. Next time we go, leaving the kids in Detroit. SCHEEEEEESH.
Exclusive service, delicious food, and a vibrant atmosphere with great street views. The split pea and ham soup was delicious and so was my pork chop. The double baked loaded potato is huge and easily feeds 2 people
Gibson's is a bustling Chicago style steakhouse. The food was excellent. Service was very good. I would probably sit outside next time as it seemed to not be as noisy as the main dining room. I was able to get a reservation close to our desire dining time and they were very accommodating. Crab cake was delicious. Desserts are HUGE!
I really can’t say enough about the experience at Gibson’s. It’s simply the best of the best when it comes to Chicago steakhouses. Impeccable service, perfectly cooked steaks and, what I now consider a top 2 key lime pie. Just perfect
Got the tenderloin steak and the crab cake. Both were excellent. Crab cake was packed with meat, the pink sauce complimented perfectly. Steak was seared heavy outside, incredibly soft and juicy inside. True Chicago style. Victims of their own success, the bar area is very very busy. Stalking tables and seats may feel like you have earned your meal but it’s not fun.
Was here after the Chicago Marathon. Definitely worth the steak here. Booked in advanced to make sure we got a spot. The steak was was nice and evenly chared. We got it medium rare and came out juicy. The nice part about this is hey allow you to split 1 steak with two people (we had the C.W. Chicago Steak 22oz)
What a great experience. We came for our one year wedding anniversary and everything was perfect. From bread service, our appetizer, lobster bisque and then the entrees. We were in a food coma after we left.
A fantastic establishment. Excellent service, delicious food (cooked precisely as ordered), and a truly wonderful location. Try to get a table downstairs, even if you have to wait a little longer for it, particularly by the windows. It makes for an excellent view, particularly at night. You can't go wrong with anything you order, so go wild and enjoy. Highly recommended.
The restaurant week menu was a great deal. Everything was delicious and the service was great! Glad I finally got to try this place.
I had the best dinner. I ordered filet mignon, asparagus & mash potatoes. I ordered half portions & they were still humongous food portions. This place was hopping on a Tuesday night. Fully packed. Excellent service.
Gibsons for me is the place for an appropriate steak in Chicago, at least since Lawry’s on Ontario closed. I’ve been there with my wife and a colleague and we had an awesome evening. Our waiter John was the best. Old school, polite, humorous and entertaining. He really made us special evening. Don’t know what to say about the steaks, simply incredibly good. The sides are large, one portion is enough for three!
The location is fantastic and the atmosphere was lively with a full house. Despite that, the service was excellent—friendly, attentive, and everything came out in perfect timing. The food was on point, but the absolute highlight for me was the carrot cake—it was truly amazing! A must-try if you visit Gibsons.
In short: Meat is awesome, the rest (siders) really not worth spending calories there, Brussels sprouts, mushrooms and baked potatoes where simple and flavorless. Would definitely come back for the meat and stay there.
Very busy night, but food was very tasty! The grass fed beef definitely had a distinct flavor. Seared tuna was delicious! My husband liked the whitefish. Was a huge helping. Bartender, Zack, was the absolute best! Nonalcoholic espresso martini was best I have had!
Went to Gibsons Steakhouse with some friends for dinner. The place is iconic and definitely has a lot of history. It was extremely busy — tables packed close together made it hard to move around, and the bar area was absolute madness. Our server was friendly, not too formal or pushy, which I appreciated. I ordered the 13oz New York Strip with a house salad. The salad was pretty average, and the steak, while cooked fine, could’ve used more flavor. For sides, we had mashed potatoes, mushrooms, Brussels sprouts, and fresh fries. Most were good, though the fries were a bit disappointing. Overall, I’d say go for the atmosphere and experience, but the food itself didn’t quite live up to the hype.
The food (Ribeye Chicago Cut, Caesar Salad, Baked Potato) was absolutely delicious and perfectly prepared. However, we expected a bit more from the ambiance – the noise level inside was quite high, and some servers seemed to be wandering around without a clear task. Unfortunately, there was no small birthday surprise such as a dessert, even though we had noted “Birthday” as the occasion when making the reservation – something that has sadly become common in many higher-end restaurants. Overall, though, it’s still a place you can visit for a special occasion without regretting it.
Wasn't really to my liking. The food was overly sweet and my cocktail was overly bitter. It didn't match the price tag for me. I was disappointed they didn't have more hot drink options on such a cold and snowy day.
We came here to celebrate my birthday. We’d been planning to visit for a while, but unfortunately the food was pretty underwhelming. I ordered the Chicago Cut, requested medium-well, but it came out burnt (as you can see in the first photo) and tasted overwhelmingly bitter. Our server Richard, who was excellent, replaced it with a second steak, but that one was also well-done. At that point, I felt too embarrassed to give more feedback. We also ordered the mushroom salad and mashed potatoes. The mushrooms were very under-seasoned, but the potatoes were good. We had a reservation, yet upon arrival the hostess sent us to the bar level, then another host redirected us to the rooftop, only for a third host to send us downstairs because of a private event and we had to take the stairs since the elevators were “too slow.” Overall, the experience was a big disappointment, though I want to give credit to our server Richard for taking great care of us.
