First time EVER having Chicago deep dish and I see why this is so famous! That pizza was absolutely delicious and this place in particular has a very cool vibe and for something so popular is very affordable! Our server Chia was also fantastic and extremely helpful with recommendations as well as just super kind making this feel like an amazing and comforting experience. One of my favorite dining experiences I've had in a long time and I definitely see why this is a must stop for Chicago visitors
Surprising Meatballs, but the Bread Couldn’t Handle the Heat I originally came to Gino’s East on a recommendation to try their famous deep-dish pizza; I certainly didn't want to leave Chicago without tasting one of the city's most iconic dishes. However, once I arrived, I realized their signature pies are designed for 2–3 people and require at least 45 minutes to cook. Since I was in my final hour in the city and traveling solo—with no way to take leftovers on a plane—I pivoted and settled on the meatball sub instead. I almost never order meatballs or a meatball sub at a restaurant. I make a pretty mean meatball at home, and I usually don't have much confidence that a restaurant's version will measure up. However, Gino’s meatballs were rich, flavorful, and moist, with a distinct Italian seasoning that was perfectly executed. I was very happy to find such high-quality meatballs, which came served with a side of French fries. The "Structural" Issue My only real complaint is that the bread was quite lumpy and wet. While the tomato sauce was excellent, the bread simply couldn't stand up to it. I found myself wondering why the bread isn't made more resilient—perhaps toasted longer or even slightly charred—so it can hold its shape before dissolving into a wet dough by the time it reaches the table. I tried "998 different ways" to hold the sandwich together, but it was impossible; the bread crumbled and the meatballs fell out with every attempt at a bite. I eventually had to ask for a fork to finish my meal. While the taste was great, a sub you can't actually pick up is a bit of a disappointment.
Our experience this evening at Gino’s was 10/10!! We’re visiting Chicago from out of town and had been recommended Gino’s by an acquaintance. It certainly didn’t disappoint! The deep dish and garlic bread were incredible and the atmosphere was very laid back and enjoyable. Blake was our server and he was extremely personable and such a joy to talk to! If we’re ever back in the city, we’ll definitely be back here!
Excellent food and service! We have been several times and it's always fantastic. We love the Chicago fire deep dish. The spicy kale ceasar was delicous as well. Yana, our server was the friendliest person we met while in Chicago. Thank you Yana and Ginos east!
We were picking between multiple deep dish places and wanted to give Gino’s a try, and we loved it! Our server was super friendly, the decor was very cool, and the food was delicious. Always prepare for a 45min bake for the deep dish pizza, so we ordered two salads to share, we got the kale Caesar and the harvest salad, both were good but the kale Caesar was amazing, and I’m still craving it. For pizza we got the spinach margherita (which was everyone’s favorite), Gino’s supreme (2nd favorite), and meaty legend. I like that you can do half and half to try multiple flavors. The crust was fabulous- it had great texture and flavor, and the sauce was great too.
Of all the deep dish I tried while in Chicago, Gino's East was the clear winner. We went with a half-and-half pizza to try different flavors, and it was absolutely incredible. The crust is legendary for a reason, but the flavor of the toppings and sauce really set it apart. It was easily the most flavorful meal of our trip—don't bother going anywhere else if you want the authentic superior experience!
Our first time back since the rebuild. Brighter and more spacious feeling, with much of the vibe preserved. (Graffiti & soundtrack). Our small group shared "the Italian special" deep dish pizza. Delicious and the gardeniera provided surprising spiciness! While waiting for our pie, we shared a large harvest salad, chock-full of apple bits, candied walnuts, cheese, lettuce, dried fruit and tasty dressing. Our server, Mike, was super friendly, attentive, and made sure everything was just right.
Reuben R was our server and he was super attentive and kind, just outstanding. The pizza was everything Chicago and was perfect. The sauce had about 12 levels of flavor, and the quality of the meat was very evident. Just a great experience overall.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Gino East Pizza was awesome! The pizza was delicious, and our server, Andrew F, really made the experience stand out, with it being our 1st time there.... He was friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome from start to finish. Great food and great service—highly recommend!
This is the second time I've come here. The first time was when I had first experienced Gino's about 10 years ago. the pizza is still at the same and amazing. If you're going to come to Chicago you have to go to Gino's to get their deep dish. If you didn't, then you didn't experience true Chicago Pizza. Parking is difficult, and you're going to pay about $40 for 2 hours worth of waiting for a pizza. But it's worth it. Tommy is in the bar and he will ensure you have all that you need. Just get the pie. You will not regret it. And bring a sharpie...ask for Tommy.
My first time in Chicago and this place was highly recommended! It did not disappoint. The deep dish Pizza was delicious. The service from Blake was attentive and efficient. I would definitely come back!
My husband and I really enjoyed our time here. Great Chicago style pizza and appetizers! Yum! The service was fast, even though there was a slight wait…we got seated fairly quickly! Our server, Yana, was a very friendly person and made us feel very welcome! She was even so kind to ask if my husband and I would like her to take our photo! Would recommend Gino’s East to anyone visiting the area!
We came in and were seated right away, and our server Jason was amazing from the jump. It was our first time at this location, and he did such a good job explaining our options, not just the most popular stuff, but also his personal favorites (which we appreciated). He recommended the Italian beef & pepper deep dish and WOW. This is an absolute must-try. Hands down the best deep dish I’ve ever had, and I’ve been to a lot of the popular pizza spots around Chicago. While we were sitting there, we fully regretted not ordering an appetizer 😅 We kept seeing the fried mozzarella sticks going by and they looked SO good. Every plate that came out was completely cleaned off by the surrounding tables, that alone says everything. Most important of all, Jason was seriously fantastic. Super friendly, very attentive, and his recommendations were spot on. Would absolutely recommend this Gino’s location. Five stars for food quality, flavor, service, and atmosphere. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
**Hidden gem of Chicago!** In Chicago for 2 nights and during day 2 we went looking for an Italian beef sandwich and came across Gino's East on Superior. Go. Now. The pizza looks amazing and the atmosphere is awesome, but the sandwich was the star of our show today. With the added mozzarella and the spicy giardiniera (oh and dipped!!!!), along with crinkle cut fries (with housemade ranch) this was the perfect meal for a lunch. Bring your markers to tag up the walls. If you can find a spot as this place is covered!! Yana is our server and she is so kind and informative. Her backstory is such an inspiration of leaving your comfort zone to try something new while embracing the unknown. So go to this pizzeria and get the Italian beef sandwich (dipped!!), you will leave satisfied for sure.
Gino’s East, particularly this location near the Magnificent Mile is absolutely amazing! From the atmosphere, to the delicious pizza, and the customer service given; you are sure to have a fantastic experience! I ordered a deep dish cheese pizza and it was definitely worth the wait! I am beyond pleased and impressed with the pizza and the overall experience that was delivered at Gino’s East! A special shoutout to my server, Abigail, who made my guests and I’s first visit to the restaurant a memorable one! She took great care of us all and made sure to regularly check in with us while our pizzas were being made! Gino’s East is truly fortunate to have her, no doubt about it! I cannot wait to return to this location the next time I visit Chicago! Keep up the phenomenal work, Gino’s East!
Our 1st time in. This place recommended by a guy we met at the airport. He wasn't wrong. We sat at the bar and Tommy our bartender was engaging. He will be the reason we come back and tell our friends about this place. Another server, I didn't get her name kindly encouraged me to make sure my purse wasn't out of my view. I truly appreciated this.
While traveling from Texas we had dinner at Gino’s East of Chicago. We had a great experience at this pizza place, and a huge part of that was our server, Marco. His customer service was absolutely amazing—friendly, attentive, and genuinely cared about making sure we had a great time. He went above and beyond and made us feel so welcome. The food was delicious, but Marco’s service truly made the visit unforgettable. We’ll definitely be back and hope to have him as our server again!
They aren’t joking when they say they have one of the best deep dish pizzas in Chicago! Hands down amazing! Typically we aren’t fans of deep dish and we were blown away! The sauce was incredible. The pizza didn’t feel heavy. I wish I would’ve taken pictures of it to share but we were too excited to dig in! We had a the cheesy deep dish and the meaty deep dish. Both great in their own ways. I ordered a build your own tavern style and it was delicious! More of my personal style. You will have to wait for about 45 minutes for deep dish pizzas but it is worth the wait. Zee was our waiter and was great! It was a great first meal in Chicago! Recommend making a reservation.
My wife and I were visiting Chicago for a few days to celebrate her birthday and in pound Gino’s East through a Gemini recommendation! The atmosphere is awesome, take time to look through the pictures on the walls up upstairs with all the celebrities and their notes. This is a great stop! The food was delicious and very filling! We ordered the sampler appetizer, highly recommend mozzarella sticks with ranch, very unique and delicious taste. We have the four meat, deep dish, pizza, another hits. It was topped off with the birthday brownie pan! And the service, top-notch! Yana was so friendly and helpful, and just made the experience even better than it already was! Thank you for a great experience for these visitors!
Spending some time around the magnificent mile, Gino’s is absolutely a place to go grab pizza. Walked in with a large group and within 10 minutes they had a seated. Now Deep dish takes about an hour for you to get it because of the Cook time. However, it is totally worth the weight. Absolutely loved our server Zee, he made our experience so enjoyable. Thank you, Gino’s!
Had a great experience at Gino’s East. Our server was Ruben R and he was extremely friendly and accommodating to any changes to our food that we needed. The pizza itself was probably the second best Deep Dish pizza I’ve had in Chicago so far. Would definitely recommend this place. Also, great choice for music.
The best Italian beef hands down! The service was wonderful. Online it showed that there was no availability for reservations for the day, we took a chance and got right in with no wait. The atmosphere was very comfortable, lots of seating and TVs for watching the games. I enjoyed my visit and wish I had room for the ice cream!!!
Very good pizza place, serving both classic and deep dish style. We got two small deep dish for 6 people and it was enough food as they are very filling. We also had some beers, which were good. I recommend going to really try the local pizza. There is also an ice cream store downstairs that is a good try, and for deserts there is a deep dish cookie with ice cream thst was amazing.
Love the graffiti vibe, and the deep dish. So on a trip to run the Chicago marathon, a secondary goal was to pacify the deep dish pizza craving. Gino’s East delivered. Lots of toppings (lots), some cheese, and an almost cornbready crust that is in a league of its own. It is not the traditional doughy bottom you worried expect. My partner loved it, ate all the leftovers the next day, and would rate Gino’s at the top like this. 1. Gino’s 2. Lou’s 3. Giordano’s Me on the other hand, I could use more cheese and less bottom crust. So I put Lou’s on top. Don’t get me wrong, this is a different than normal crust, and that is what makes it taste so good. But is was a bit thick and could use more cheese (🧀). I just want enough crust to hold the cheese and toppings. Either way, I thoroughly enjoyed it, and you will too.
The pizza toppings and sauce were very good. The crust was ok though, I didn't eat too much of it. We also came during the day of the Chicago Marathon, so it was very busy but we were still seated fairly quickly considering. It took about 45mins to get a deep dish pizza. A small size is enough for 2 people, that's four slices. The cheese sticks were amazing!
When I came to Chicago, I wanted to try authentic deep-dish pizza, so I chose this restaurant based on its Google ratings and reviews. We ordered a regular-sized Gino’s House salad and a small deep-dish pizza with the restaurant’s name, topped with sausage. The pizza was filled with pepperoni, cheese, mushrooms, and green bell peppers. The flavor was delicious and surprisingly easy to eat. I had the impression that American pizza tends to be on the salty side, but this one wasn’t overly salty at all. The green bell peppers added a nice accent that kept the pizza from feeling heavy, and the crust was light and crispy, almost like a pie—just the way I like it. The salad and pizza were the perfect size to share among three people. Our server, Ms.Maria, was incredibly kind and attentive—thank you so much! The other staff were also very observant, quickly clearing empty plates and making sure we had everything we needed. Their service made the experience even more enjoyable. This meal became a wonderful memory of my trip to Chicago. Thank you!
I was delightfully impressed by this lunch experience. Yes the wait was long (about 30-40 min), but I think it was worth it. Our server was super attentive and polite! Our food was so tasty! We ordered a small deep dish and some mozzarella sticks. The environment was open, spacious and a bit quirky and charming.
When I said make the pizza well done they weren't playing. They cooked that crust like a caveman who just discovered fire. Look at that there crust! It looks like it was touched by the sun itself. The roast beef was nice and moist just like I like my schmeat. I wish they put the salad dressing on the side but that's okay it tasted good. Overall good experience, one star off for the crust.
Very loud here. Tables are super close together, like the couple at the table next to us could’ve shared all of our food. The Chicago style pizza was really good. It was busy but we only waited 5-10 min for a table at 7pm on a Saturday. I’d likely eat here again but only after trying some other establishments for comparison.
Service and atmosphere was awesome, food was honestly mid. Thin crust is at the level of what I’d get buying tostinos pizza from the store, and spinach artichoke dip was alright, nothing to write home about, definitely needs to be warmer with more flavor. Shout out to our server Paul.
