Visited tonight and boy, they didn’t disappoint. It’s still Restaurant Week here in Chicago, so I ordered off that menu. My beverage of choice was the Berries and Bubbles, an excellent cocktail with a perfect balance of alcohol and fruity taste. I ordered two. For starters, I had the Caesar Salad, which was good. My entree of choice was the Teriyaki Salmon, cooked medium well just how I liked it. The teriyaki sauce was excellent. To top it off for dessert, I had the five-layer carrot cake. The only thing I didn’t like was the truffle popcorn, which was complimentary. Everything else was 🔥🔥🔥. I hate that I waited so long to come here. The servers were on point as well. I think my server’s name was Adam.
I love my experience at Ocean Prime! The food was delicious and the staff were incredibly friendly. The interior is much larger than I anticipated. They offer complimentary truffle popcorn once seated. I started with the surf n’ turf and hamachi crudo. Both were stellar, but the crudo stood out for me as my favorite dish of the meal. 10/10. I also tried the Take Two, a strawberry cocktail, whic h was crisp and refreshing. After that I enjoyed the Sakura Wagyu cheeseburger and the tempura lobster sticks. Both were much heavier than the first round and I did not finish either, but still pretty good. Dessert was a decadent raspberry sorbet with an almond cookie. Divine. Overall the happy hour was filling and flavorful. I’ll be back. Mary and Mario were friendly and attentive to my allergies. Pay them more!
Beautiful restaurant inside at a great location. Valet was very friendly though it was crowded coming in on arrival. Great wine selection and professional wait staff. Some parts were not as refined as other restaurants that I have been too for 5 star restaurant. Food quality was great but not the best for the price. But the restaurant interior is one of the best I ever saw. Perfect spot to impress a date. The high rating of this place is well deserved.
Amazing!! From food to cocktails so good. The service was excellent, atmosphere was so nice. Loved the scallops, seared perfectly. The truffle mac n cheese was creamy and rich. The bread basket was absolutely delicious. Fantastic Martini as well. Great spot for date night
We have dined at several Ocean Prime locations and I’m happy to report that the Chicago location was just as delicious. We dined for an early happy hour (4pm on a Monday) and were delighted with the specific happy hour menu. They had a large selection of some of our favorite dishes to choose from. For Happy hour, signature cocktails are also $5 off and they also offer select white and red wine for $8 per glass. I highly recommend the sushi - our favorite is the Ocean Prime roll. I also really enjoy the braised short rib as well. We walked right in without a reservation, but by the time we left it was quite busy.
My friend and I went to Ocean Prime for the first time last night to celebrate her birthday and it was EXCEPTIONAL! Our server, Luke, was attentive and friendly. The hostess was very nice and welcoming. The drinks were great, the food was absolutely delicious, and the decor creates the perfect relaxed yet luxurious ambiance. I can’t wait to go back!
Five star fabulous food and service! Top tier classy atmosphere! Great downtown location! Every bite was mouth wateringly delicious. They serve an amazing drink with dry ice that is an entertaining visual spectacle. If you dine here, you will not be disappointed.
I had the pleasure of dining for my birthday, which also falls on restaurant week. The three course were truly a treat. I order tv French onions soup, the eight oz filet and for the star of the night a carrot cake in a pineapple purée. The music was very calm the service was amazing and tentative. Can’t forget to mention the shrimp sauté in a tabasco sauce.
Really amazing food, desert and views! Service was excellent! Sea bass was incredible and so was my husbands lobster linguine. Chocolate peanut butter dessert was rich and delicious, and the carrot cake was unique, with 9-10 layers! Looking forward to coming back!
This was the best seafood I’ve ever had in my life. I came here for a solo dinner and requested a seat next to the window with a view of the city and they delivered! Everything I got was AMAZING! It was my first time trying sea bass and I was obsessed. The complimentary assorted bread was divine. The service was absolutely fantastic. I will always recommend this place. 1000/10
I really enjoyed my Birthday celebration at Ocean 🌊 Prime! The food was great, the staff is awesome and the ambiance didn't disappoint at all. My experience here was simply the best! I highly recommend trying out this place is amazing. I give this restaurant & bar 10/10🌟⭐⭐⭐🌟✨✨
I had a great experience here. The food was amazing, the service was exceptional, and I loved the dim lighting—it created a very intimate ambiance. I would recommend this place for a special occasion.
Top dining experience from beginning to end. Decor set the theme of hip elegance with large comfortable booths overlooking the river across the street. Service by Gabe was professional and knowledgeable without pretension. Staff well coordinated for seamless serving, cutlery reset and clearing. Food was prepared with perfect levels of seasoning to complement. Many worthy shareables at our table. The Steak Tatare was spot on. The Jalapeno Tots were crisp with a hint of cheese. The Shrimp Saute was a hit for our table. It’s large crisp juicy shrimp in a spicy sauce needs more description on their menu. The Goat Cheese Ravioli were delicate and tasty and nothing wrong, just not a stand out. Steak was exactly medium rare as ordered. The Wedge salad was perfect and some pickled veg gave it some new dimension. Would go back!
5 stars. 10out of 10. "Awesome". "Unbelievable". "The best". Don't waste your time anywhere else. This place had the best fish, steaks, and drinks out of ALL the places we tried on our trip. The teriyaki salmon was cooked perfectly over a bed of some of the best rice I have ever tasted. The Sea bass was better than any restaurant I have been to from Charleston SC to San Diego CA. The steak was seasoned and cooked to perfection, nothing could have made it better. Adding au poivre or anything other than how it was served would be a disgrace and an insult to common sense as well as the Chef. The special drinks were creative, playful, yet somehow managed to complement everything on our table... even the truffles popcorn served at the beginning when we were seated. Service was like they were in our minds, or at the very least we'll versed in reading body language. Anytime we wanted to ask a question or get another drink, they were there. Funky decor and beautiful views of the city from the enormous windows makes this restaurant feel open and less crowded, but this place appears to be very popular regardless. Pricing is not cheap, but if you are looking for a dining experience and phenomenal food, you have come to the right place.
It was a great anniversary dinner for us. On Sunday evenings, they have a full course dinner special that we enjoyed. Best old-fashioned I’ve ever had. We really enjoy that atmosphere.
I had a mixed experience here. I ordered a well-done steak but received it medium-well, with lots of juices. Since I don’t like that, I asked them to change the plate, and they kindly did. I ate most of it, but when I got to the center, I found a piece that was undercooked, so I decided to stop. When I shared my experience with the staff, they mentioned I should have let them know earlier so they could fix it, and in the end, they didn’t charge me for the steak, which I appreciated. On the positive side, I also ordered a non-alcoholic drink, and it was amazing!
Everything was great! The cheese ravioli was my favorite – rich, creamy, and perfectly cooked. I also tried the pasta with lobster – it was absolutely delicious, with tender lobster and a flavorful, buttery sauce that made it unforgettable. And don’t skip dessert! I had one of the best – beautifully presented and paired perfectly with a strong, aromatic coffee. A perfect sweet ending to an amazing meal. Highly recommend!
First off the night was amazing thanks to our wonderful waiter, Charlie. He made our meal such a great experience and a super nice guy. We had some oysters to start which were fantastic. The three of us each ordered something different. I had the blackened snapper which was great. We had their potatoes, mushrooms and corn for sides. Everything was perfect. For dessert we had a warm yellow cake with ice cream and fruit. Save room for this as it is great. Thanks for the wonderful meal and evening.
Happy birthday happy hr to me! Ocean prime happy hr and service never disappoint. Will be back. Lauren was a great host
Absolutely loved the place! It’s nice, quiet and the food was flavor rich! Worth the price. Perfect for professional meets or a nice formal outing. Loved their take on the calamari. The sushi with the shrimp was great and not to mention but the black truffle Mac and cheese if the best I have ever had. Pardon my camera skills!
Wow!!! My wife and I dropped in while we were in Chicago for an anniversary weekend. It was just a, “this place looks good” decision. Everything about Ocean Prime was amazing. The food, the presentation, the decor and the service were all classy and outstanding. Our server, Luke, had the perfect mix of professionalism, warmth and humor. He paid attention to details and was spot on with our requests and orders. This is a place where they put a lot of effort into the “small details” which adds up to a next level experience. Things like clear ice with their logo laser etched into the cube in my old fashioned. An orchid flower frozen into the ice ball in my wife’s “Black Orchid” cocktail. A “happy anniversary” chocolate on our desserts. Then of course there is the food!!! It was delicious (as you would expect for a place that pays so much attention to details). We loved the interior high ceilings and decor. We couldn’t quite finish our dessert and Luke even sent extra carrot cake frosting home in my wife’s to go box!!! Again, attention to detail!!! We were so impressed. We will be back on our next trip to Chicago.
I got berry bumble I loved the cocktail presentation – it was so exciting! I ordered beef tartare for appetizers. For Main course I ordered The lobster was perfectly cooked, the sauce and pasta were well-balanced together and the scallops were grilled to perfection. I also have mac&cheese for side order .I’ll definitely be coming back. The service was excellent!
Charles our waiter struck the perfect balance of feeling like a part of our group while he was with us and still providing incredible service, all while making sure we never went without anything we needed. The food was incredible - seriously there wasn’t anything we did all go gaga over. If you need a steak house near the river, it’s this one. Don’t miss the Bourgogne Chanson.
Had the absolute best Salmon here I've ever had in my life. The seafood tower app was out of this world. For future reference you want the west coast oysters. The east coast are good but the west coast were a standout. The atmosphere was excellent. My favorite restaurant in Chicago by far.
Ocean Prime was an absolute delight! The food was exceptional, and the staff made the entire experience even more memorable. Our server, Erin, was incredible—thoughtful, attentive, and full of warmth. She felt like a big sister, making us feel completely at ease while sharing plenty of laughs and smiles throughout the evening. We enjoyed the calamari, a crisp iceberg wedge split to share, the 8oz filet with truffle butter, twice-baked potato, asparagus, and finished off with the warm butter cake for dessert. Every bite was outstanding. This was easily one of the best meals and dining experiences I’ve had in a long time. A heartfelt thank you to Erin for being such a wonderful part of our evening. I can’t wait to come back!
From the moment we sat down, the service was excellent. Gabriel took fantastic care of us, happily answering all my questions before I decided what to order. The Special South African Lobster 🦞 tail was tender and rich in flavor. My husband really enjoyed the lamb. Highly recommend.
I was very excited to have the opportunity of dining here for a quick lunch. There are a few locations, and when I was last in Boston, I was unable to experience the Boston location, but I felt fortunate enough to experience the Chicago Ocean Prime Location. The location of the restaurant is in a prime spot within the Downtown Chicago area that affords them the opportunity to provide you with fantastic seating options that look out over the city. The menu is very elaborate with several options in spirits, proteins, dining options, and varying entrees. They do have the ability to accommodate a food allergy, including a gluten allergy, but with full disclosure, I did have a slight reaction to something I consumed while dining with Ocean Prime. The staff was made aware of my exposure and was sincerely apologetic for my discomfort.
We had a great experience! Our server, was pretty good. We’re four friends who decided to visit Chicago, and this beautiful restaurant with amazing food truly made our trip complete
We went there for our anniversary! The food was great and our server Charlie was the best! He accommodated all our requests and was knowledgeable about the food. He made us feel special on our special day. I recommend this place for special occasions since the food is pricey.
The food was delicious, and the atmosphere, and staff went out of there way, to make sure that we had a fine dining experience.
So excellent! The perfect "Treat Yo Self!". Lobster was fantastic. Drinks were interesting and flavorful, service was 5 star.
This restaurant has a great atmosphere and excellent customer service including our waiter and waitress. They were absolutely amazing, attentive and informative. The food was so delicious, I wanted more. But the dessert was just as good!!! This is a great date night place or pop the question to your girlfriend.
Ocean Prime Chicago delivered an incredible dining experience from start to finish. The atmosphere was upscale yet comfortable, and everything—from the service to the food—was exceptional. We started with soups: I had the Lobster Bisque, which was rich, creamy, and absolutely delicious. My boyfriend had the French Onion Soup, which was deeply flavorful with the perfect cheesy topping. For our main courses, he had the Lobster Linguine—packed with flavor and perfectly cooked seafood—while I had the Teriyaki Salmon, which was tender, flavorful, and beautifully plated. We also shared the Lobster Mac & Cheese, and it was to die for—creamy, indulgent, and full of lobster in every bite! A huge shoutout to our server, Erin, who went above and beyond to make my birthday evening special. She was friendly, attentive, and incredibly knowledgeable about the menu. Her recommendations were spot-on and really elevated our experience. If you’re looking for a high-end dining spot in the heart of Chicago with incredible food, top-tier service, and an elegant vibe, Ocean Prime is a must. We’ll definitely be back
I really enjoyed dinner at this very beautiful and exclusive restaurant. I ordered filet mignon, French onion soup, and Brussel sprouts. The food was good, but the server, Mercedes was STELLAR! I arrived late due to the crazy, holiday traffic in downtown Chicago, so when I entered into the private dining room, I was a tad bit tired, embarrassed because of my late arrival, and overwhelmed. However, she welcomed me and took my drink order immediately... Her friendly demeanor put me at ease right away. She also gave me great food and drink recommendations, and the drink was very delicious! She then took my food order and checked on me throughout the night! The dessert, sweet potatoe cheesecake was DEVINE! Although I had a rough time arriving due to crazy traffic, the beautiful atmosphere, good food and the server, Mercedes made the hassle worth it because of her warm, bright, professional and inviting personality!
A very nice restaurant- dress appropriately. Very nice staff. Solid selection of dining options. We had the short rib and scallops appetizer, split a house salad, bread basket, gluten free bread as well, an 8 oz filet with au poivre sauce, lamb (nice big pieces), jalapeño potatoes, brussels sprouts, butter cake and chocolate torte. A Manhattan, Old Fashion, Red Blend wine, Irish coffee, decaf cappuccino. All but one of those was excellent! The brussels sprouts were good not great - a little crispier would help? Everything else was superb. Portions were healthy - it is Chicago right!?! Staff very attentive throughout. The only other downside is the big Trump sign on the building across the street. Oh and the meal was way too expensive but that didn't ruin the experience.
The private dining room is sort of tucked away in the back so it’s very private, but unfortunately, you miss the views. That said, the food and service was top notch. I especially loved the carrot cake; it had like 8 layers!
This is the second year in a row we have booked Ocean Prime for our work holiday party and it is always a great time. The Wrigley room is beautiful and the food is as amazing as you would expect. The real MVP here is the staff. They are always anticipating needs and happy to make a great recommendation. I worked with Aaron to book the event and he is responsive, helpful, and accommodating. Jessica and Sean were working at our event and they were a dream team to keep the whole crew happy. I cannot say enough good things about the team and the food at this place. Must try for a nice dinner in Chicago.
Had a wonderful dining experience at Ocean Prime tonight. The atmosphere was elegant, the food was exceptional, and everything was perfectly prepared. A special thank you to Mary for her outstanding service—she was attentive, warm, and made our evening truly enjoyable. Looking forward to coming back again soon!
Place is absolutely amazing. Well worth the money which is expensive. You can easily spend well over 500 dollars on just two people. We had a dinner for two and it was maybe one of if not the best meals I've ever had if you like steak and lobster and wine that sort of thing and the bill was after tip around 700 just be prepared for that. I do think it was worth it actually. One of the best restaurant experiences I've ever had. Absolutely excellent service and amazing food. But just be prepared to spend easily 100+ per person. A single steak costs around 100+ on its own but again it is well worth it. This is a great place to take your wife or long time girlfriend for an anniversary if they like steak and lobster that is.
The food and drinks- awesome The service - awesome The vibe - awesome Had a wonderful first time experience at Ocean Prime. The crab cakes, Chilean sea bass, jalapeño augratin potatoes, creamed spinach with bacon were delicious options for us. I had the best Bourbon old fashioned. Very smooth! Our server was very attentive and on point with her suggestions. The music and ambience added to the overall experience. Pricey, but worth it. Will be back.
I've been to this location twice and it is exceptional. From the atmosphere to the service to the food, it is a great dining experience. The crab cake is amazing and the steaks are excellent. The goat cheese appetizer is SO GOOD. A person I dined with was still thinking about it the next day. I've been to a lot of steakhouses in Chicago, but only a few more than once and there is a reason for that - excellent atmosphere, service and food. I do expect to return in the future.
My guest and I thoroughly enjoyed our experience at Ocean Prime. We had an incredible Chicago view from an upper floor of London House. I felt that we received premium service and premium food at very reasonable prices. Our server, Anicia(?) from OH, was very attentive and spot on in spite of being very busy. My guest and I are always sensitive to being able to talk at normal levels in a busy restaurant. This was not a problem here.
Nice restaurant upstairs, good service, difficult to find the toilets. Food is good, great choice. The oysters were a bit small, I expected more spice in the jalopeno au gratin. Steaks are great. A bit expensive. Overall a good option for dinner
A place where they serve expensive food in an impressive room with white tablecloths and inventive extras. Clients from out of town will likely be impressed, so will your mother-in-law. If indulging in rich food with no impulse to skimp on butter appeals to you (and I do believe there’s value in that) you’ve found your destination — the lobster is well prepared, the sides are… good? Goat cheese ravioli… also good. What I’m getting at is that the food is, well, good. It’s tasty in fact. But (especially for the price) I didn’t find much to be inspired by. We enjoyed our dinner, but won’t really remember anything about it. Objectively quality, but subjectively boring and bland
Ok, this is a tough one. Everyone here was very nice, and pleasant. Most of the food was great. They over cooked my steak to death. There is no other way to put it. When you charge what they charge you have to deliver. And although everything else was good. It wasn’t enough to pull them out. The prime sushi roll was something special.
Overall experience does not meet expectations of fine dining. Rib eye steak flavor was good. Had that frozen texture. Visually very good overall. Servers were not prompt, it wasn’t very busy. Waited a long time to take food order. Didn’t bring drink refill until after food came and had to ask again. Will not come back. Signs everywhere about dress code. Was not enforced.
Came here with my partner to celebrate our anniversary. Almost everything we ate was prepared perfectly, except my sea bass, which was undercooked. I had to flag my server down because otherwise I likely wouldn’t have seen him again for quite a while. The fish was taken back and a new one was prepared, which I appreciated. Our server offered a shrimp cocktail on the house, but I politely declined. I do wish a dessert or something similar had been comped to make up for the issue instead. I also would have appreciated more table touches. We were only asked once how was the food and that was at the very end when we had dessert . The food itself was great, but the service from Charles was just okay and didn’t quite match the quality of the meal or the occasion.
Yesterday marked my inaugural visit to Ocean Prime, where I celebrated my sister's birthday during Restaurant Week. While we initially intended to participate in the Restaurant Week offerings, our celebratory spirit led us to order beyond the set menu. Regrettably, the culinary experience was subpar, and my sister did not find her dinner enjoyable. The only commendable items were the calamari appetizer and the bread service. Consequently, I am disinclined to return or recommend this establishment. This outcome is particularly disappointing as it necessitates an alternative dining arrangement for my sister's celebration.
I had a bad encounter with a bad bartender named Sean. When I mean bad, I mean bad. I first noticed Sean’s bad behavior as he hurriedly took my drink order without making eye contact with me. I ordered a Mojito and was surprised that it came back within minutes. There wasn’t one leaf of mint in the drink, not even remnants of a leaf. There is no way Sean muddled it. He didn’t even use it as a garnish even though there was an abundance of mint on the adjacent counter. I thought, “Oh maybe this is something specific to Ocean Prime Chicago.” After taking a sip, I knew that Sean just dumped some ingredients in a glass and stirred it with a straw. It was bad! Bad, bad and not Michael Jackson bad. Another guest seated at the bar turned to me and said “I can’t even drink this. It’s the worst (whatever) drink I’ve had in my life.” I noticed Sean arguing with a table of guests near me. There was a manager with him so I waited and gave the manager my account of Sean’s bad behavior and bad drink. Sean then began flailing his arms and touched my chest. Then I was rescued!!! A good bartender named Rafael took over and made a good mojito with mint. Yay! Raphael was professional and friendly. Because he was such a breath of good fresh air, I stayed to eat. I ordered steak tartar and a 12 ounce South African lobster tail. The steak tartar had a sweetness that that was unlike any tartare that I’ve had (I wouldn’t order it again). However, the lobster tail was absolutely delicious! After settling my bill, I showed Sean a photo of Raphael’s good mojito. I thought it would inspire him to be better. Instead of being gracious, Sean cursed at me while yelling at me to leave “his bar.” Sean continued by shouting that he’s been the bar manager at Ocean Prime Chicago for five years. If that’s the case, he was most likely hired by family member. I’ve dined at Ocean Prime in other cities and always left with a good feeling. I never would have imagined that the Chicago location would pull an inexperienced bartender from a place like Chili’s, TGI Fridays, Outback Steakhouse, or Red Lobster. Sean made my initial experience at Ocean Prime a bad one. Raphael made it a good one. If anyone dines at the Chicago location, ask for Raphael and avoid Sean unless you want bad service and bad drinks.
Update: On the next business day, OP’s management reached out to me, apologized and offered a full refund. My company was paying the tab, however, I did appreciate the phone call. —- Easily the most disappointing restaurant experience of my trip to Chicago. The service was HORRIBLE.. (a vast difference from the service I received at Nobu earlier for brunch) It took a while for anyone to acknowledge me, even longer to get my food, and my drink was never refilled. Now onto the food. I ordered a full-size Caesar salad, but what I received was more like a half portion. On top of that, the greens weren’t fresh and crisp like you’d expect from a “fine dining” restaurant… they were wilted, which was unacceptable. Now.. the lobster linguine. I could tell the pasta was made fresh from the texture, but it was terrible. It tasted like they didn’t let the dough rest properly, which affects the overall quality. I barely touched my meal, as you can see in the photo. Service wise, it was terrible. Maybe my experience was different because I was dining alone as a Black woman… maybe there was an assumption I wouldn’t tip, or maybe the service here is just bad across the board. Either way, I was disappointed. I used to live in 90212, within walking distance of the BH location, but never had the urge to try it. I figured I’d give it a shot since I’m staying at the London House for a conference. I will not be dining at Ocean Prime again. SN: To management.. do not leave a BS comment under this review asking me to reach out to you via email. I posted my receipt.. you have my contact information!
