Had lunch here to celebrate my uncle and sister’s birthday and it was really nice! The food was delicious and very satisfying. We loved the udon and the nigiri that we ordered! The staff was also super nice, our waitress was super sweet and made a nice dessert for the two and sang happy birthday! I’ve already recommended this place to a few friends! :)
What a hidden gem! Authentic Japanese sushi and small plates restaurant. Run by Japanese head chef and Japanese staff. The service was great and the chef even came to escort us out to the door! The quality of the fish for sashimi was above average and they even have fresh myoga on the sashimi set. Everything melted in our mouth and our favorites were the scallop, hamachi, salmon, and fatty tuna. Surprisingly, what stole the show was the Inaniwa ume udon! The broth was a different level of umami and the noodle's texture was a cross between typically udon and ramen noodle chewiness. The ume was a delightful contrast of flavor. We also enjoyed the chawamushi which had a crab gravy on top and the egg custard texture was silky smooth. However, it needs a tad bit more seasoning to enhance the delicateness. Overall, we enjoyed the experience and will definitely be back. 📸 Sashimi Moriawase ❤️ Tempura Moriawase Spicy Tuna Maki Chawamushi❤️ Tokyo Chicken Tofu & Nasu Agedashi Rice Set (Best Miso Soup) ❤️ Inaniwa ume udon❤️ Hot Sake ❤️
Fantastic place for pub-style Japanese food. The tsukune skewers and ebi tendon (tempura over rice) stole the show! The tempura was reminiscent of Japan. The service was fantastic, and there wasn’t a bad dish. All I can say is it’s a one of one Japanese restaurant in Chicago. I’m so glad we found this place! Also, I saw the chef serve omakase at the bar, and the menu has solid sushi options such as bluefin tuna (fatty) and salt-water eel (anago). Like I said though, to me, the skewers and tempura really stole the show. Please visit as it’s a restaurant that deserves way more recognition!
Great gem for Japanese with lovely service. The sushi was very fresh and some items like Uni and Hamachi collar were not on the menu so you need to ask. So happy that we asked because the Hamachi collar was very good. Prices are reasonable and decor inside was very modern.
We had a great time here yesterday. The service was sweet, the food was good, and the presentation was just marvelous. We had two tasting menus plus grilled squid and skewers. It was just enough for two, I would probably throw in one more appetizer if you are very hungry. It was also easy to find street parking around, and it took us just an hour in and out.
This is the best bang for buck place to get amazing high-quality nigiri. My favorite is the fatty yellow tail and salmon. They also provide real wasabi if you order nigiri. Ringo is an absolute bargain and one of my favorite sushi spots in Chicago
Authentic Japanese 🍱 food. Always good. Hemmi is a great chef and I always appreciate his work. He is detailed and makes some amazing food. 🥂 cheers.
Amazing food. Dont let the great appetizers hide that they have possibly the best and freshest sashimi and nigiri in this whole city. Wow! How are they not even more popular? This is such a great place that I will simply be visiting much more going forward. Thank you all for great Sake, food and service!
Food was so wonderful I brought my picky sister in law who typically dislikes Raw food and she was so delighted! Thumbs up from me and the family. Thank you chef I will be back very soon! 👍🏽👍🏽
Excellent sushi bar! A real Janpanese style. Also, they provided good service.
Wonderful service, beautiful aesthetic and food presentation, and absolutely no reason why it should have been as easy to get a table as it was!
A fabulous place to eat! Owner Agnes Chua and Chef Hemmi are amazing and the food is fantastic. I would HIGHLY recommend this place as must visit when you are in the area.
Nice place, delicious food, highly recommend!
美味しい食べ物があります。 On my 3rd visit the shio unagi nigiri was melt in your mouth good.
come back!
Authentic japanese food.
Absolutely amazing
The quality of the fish here, (sashimi and nigiri) is some of the best I've had in years. There are also some excellent appetizers and main dishes. Moderate pricing makes this place a value for the quality.
We ordered 2 lunch bentos and both were great. Lots of food for an affordable price. Nice and friendly Japanese staff. Clean bathrooms too! Would love to come again :)
Outstanding food & service, a hidden gem in chicago of authentic japenese cuisine. The chef puts a lot of pride & heart into his restaurant, and it shows. The entrees are so good I'll order 3 different things, phenomenal everytime! This place is a must try! Hats off to Chef Hemmi 👩🏼🍳 👏 👌
Very nice atmosphere, friendly staff, and delicious sushi. Can't wait to try the rest of the menu. Highly recommend.
This place is wonderful. Don't expect to find fancy rolls here with sauces that unnecessarily hide the flavors of the fish. Everything is fresh and delicious!
Excellent sushi. Highly recommend the Ikura Salmon roe and Tokyo chicken. Great neighborhood gem.
Amazing food. The tuna sashimi melts in your mouth.. Service and atmosphere great. Would highly recommend.
I still think about this place, and it's always the first place I think of when guests are here and we want Japanese. Please come back. This was something special in the city.
Great place with warm and welcoming ambience. Food is superb and service is way above average. I keep coming back!
Please come back!! I used to live in Japan and this is the real authentic Japanese place in Chicago. I came here every week before it closed.
Noooo please come back! This is my favorite Japanese restaurant in Chicago - and I used to live in Tokyo!
Literally the best Sushi I have ever had, highly recommended!
Awesome experience. Great food. Small place so make sure to call ahead.
Everything in this restaurant is amazingly delicious including the sushi and sashimi that are astonishingly good.
Service was excellent and the sashimi is one of the best that i have had in chicago
Waitress very kind! Great service! Food so good!! Worth the money!
Traditional Japanese kitchen nothing like it in the city, except maybe Tokyo.
Delicious sushi and friendly staff, what more could you ask for?
Best Japanese restaurant in Lincoln Park. Extremely authentic.
staff was SO nice and caring. amazing food🤩
Great food and service, hidden gem of Chicago!
Fantastic and calm experience! Came by with a friend and we were seated immediately. The servers never let our water get low, the food was delicious and the ambiance was perfect for a casual spot to enjoy a meal and chat. I ordered a dragon roll and they were able to customize it for me. Highly recommend the Tokyo chicken (juicy dark meat) and the green tea ice cream!
Came here on a Tuesday evening, and although it was fairly late (8:30pm) it was very quiet, which usually isn't a great sign. After getting our food, I became very very puzzled why it wasn't super busy - it might be some of the best Japanese I've had in Chicago, and very affordable! Everything we had off the small plates was rather unique and very tasty, and the nigiri was top notch - very fresh and perfectly seasoned rice. Will definitely be back!
Chef Hemmi always delivers, and the owners @ Ringo clearly know how to both source and sell good sashimi in Chicago - not an easy or inexpensive thing to do. The elegance and beauty of this spot is in its simplicity and directness - their focus is crystal clear and invested in the important things. Fresh, high quality ingredients being utilized to their best by an experienced chef; no frills, just good eats. Love this spot, so lucky to have it around! My favorite sushi spot in the city.
Great place. Very talented chef. Originally I thought this was more of a small plate izakaya place and i loved it. Great menu and was impressed with everything we ordered, but then we tried the sushi and it blew me away. Staff is great and make great recommendations. They have a liquor license and not byob, but their corkage policy us reasonable...please share what you bring with the server and chef :) I really like going with a few people so you can try more of their menu or if you lucky what ever their special are that day
Had an excellent meal, the sushi was the best I've had in the city. Very authentic and there were many unique dishes worth trying. Excited to come back and try more soon! I'm a big saki fan and they had several very good options.
Our Saturday night ended beautifully because of our dinner here. Agnes, the owner, was very nice and personal to every customers. Good food and servers. Well deserved of our 5 stars. I hope this restaurant could set a perfect example to others on proper treatment to all customers. They made our tummy full with free dessert. Thank you!
Absolutely Amazing! From start to finish! Tokyo chicken was probably the best appetizer I've ever had. A great mix between sweat, spicy, and savory. The chicken Teriyaki entree was delicious! The fries were the best freshly made fries! I had the veggie sushi as well, once again, perfection is the best way to describe the food! They have red bean ice cream! Delicious! Love this place!
Rare authentic japanese in approachable neighborhood restaurant. Sashimi includes scallop and better tuna and fish cuts than other restaurants. Kagomori included egg custard, shrimp, grilled eel and two cuts of tuna sashimi. Great natto appetizer. Chef was in and visible on a Saturday lunch, which is a nice touch to know your getting the best quality. Pleasant ambience with all place settings out. Will try tempura and toban yaki next time. Excellent price for quality.
This place is awesome.. very hospitable chef and staff and such delicious and fresh food. I’ve been here 3 times in the last 2 months! The first time I went I got omakase which is where the chef chooses the pieces for you and serves in like 7/8 courses.. literally everything was extremely flavorful and fresh. It’s a very cool experience and the chef gets to understand your tastes and makes things he thinks you’d like or would surprise you! Everything was presented beautifully - delicate and bright.. and all the flavors had the same sensibilities. Hemmi is very chill and funny so it was an easy going and enjoyable meal. I’ve also gotten their ringo zen 4 course. The appetizers were great: tuna sashimi, salmon roe over grated Dikon as well as a (I think hamachi) set of sliced fish in a sesame sauce plus 2 others. For 2nd course I choose the personal grill of beef toban yaki. They give you your own grill, butter and sliced fine quality beef and you get to grill your slices as rare or done as you want - very fun.. plus they serve it with like a Japanese kalbi sauce.. last was chirasu with miso soup.. it’s very filling and they use all their really fresh fish and add just a little sauce.. This place is unbelievably good - of the 20 or so sushi places I’ve been in Chicago I’d put it in my top 2. Other places are pretentious or don’t have the quality to justify their prices. This place has it all. Hemmi is very skilled and easy going and the wait staff is very warm and friendly. The location is relaxed and parking is easy. Great spot for a date, taking friends out or a nice meal solo.
Truly authentic Japanese food, very fresh and high quality. Beautifully presented, attentive service and prices are reasonable. The chef puts his heart and soul into the food. A wonderful gem!
They have some different Japanese dishes you don't usually find at restaurants. Most were tasty.
Friendly staff but food was a huge disappointment. The yakitori was pink in the middle, the broccoli was still frozen and the ice cream was freezer burned.
