Did the bus trip for the Notre Dame game, had a blast!
Three words: fried cheese curds. That is all. More words: great drinks too. Even more words: if you sit at one of the tables behind the bar you have your own personal tv for your booth. Surprisingly good spot to watch a game.
Nicknamed Gaston's gay lounge for the decor (imagine if Gaston from Beauty in the Beast- this would be his bar). Super fun bar, great bartenders, awesome mixed drinks. You need to check this place out.
Want to party? Want to meet a dude? Go here, they are all there. Especially on game day. Drink some beers, take some shot and pig out on upscale gourmet bar food. it's a fun spot to take a group. Gets crowded. Sometimes a line.
Stopped by on the way home from visiting the Cultivate Festival. Had these delicious pretzel bites and had two different dipping sauces. Both were excellent. I had a build your own burger. Everything was made in the restaurant. Everything was great. I would highly recommend this place.
So welcoming! Stopped in for a quick beverage while waiting for my daughter to get off work. It was right after opening - ordered a beer and a light appetizer. Appetizer was a little slow coming out so they brought out chips and awesome guacamole to fill the gap! Unnecessary but so sweet! Very friendly staff and owner was present and involved!
There is a lively atmosphere here at the Old Town Social. Sports playing on large screen TVs. Amazing Food selections served fresh from the grill. The drinks are excellent and music playing that is fun to dance to. I highly recommend this bar/restaurant.
My wife and I had our wedding reception at Old Town Social and were able to rent Old Town Social out for the night. It was the best decision we made in our wedding planning process. Our guests keep raving about the how friendly the staff was, how nice everything looked, how great the food was, and about how good the mixed drinks were. Along with the beer and wine choices. My wife and I couldn't agree more with our guests. We keep talking about how much we are craving the food offered by Old Town Social for private events. Especially the charcuterie. Old Town Social made the wedding planning process so easy. They provide you with wedding planners to assist you through the process and they couldn't have been more helpful. We were lucky to work with Ashley and Jessica. They were so nice and cared just as much as we did about making the day really special for everyone. They stayed in constant communication with us throughout the process and were always there to answer any questions/requests we had. In addition to the wedding planners, the other Old Town Social staff, servers, bartenders, and management were so nice and helpful on the day of our wedding. Even a few days after our wedding, when we had to pack up our car with some wedding decor we owned, they helped us load the car and get everything organized. If you are looking for an affordable place to have your wedding reception or private party, Old Town Social is the place to book it. Or if you are just looking for a place to go for dinner and/or drinks, Old Town Social is a great choice!
Great beer menu, exceptionally friendly staff, and delicious food. The atmosphere is the icing on the cake. Say hi to Jason if he's in - tell him you saw Matt's google review.
The decor of this place is very interesting. I very much enjoyed the environment in the evening and for brunch in the morning. Never eaten dinner there, but the brunch was delicious... I'm recommending the tomato soup and grilled cheese. You're welcome!
I checked this place out with a friend who had been here before. The place was surprisingly spacious and despite an outdoor temperature of over 100 degree's it was chilly inside (thankfully). We enjoyed drinks and food together. Old Town Social has AMAZING food. I will be back.
This is my favorite bar in Chicago. The beer selection is the perfect balance of breadth (lots of beers) and depth (many types of beers) while sporting a great wine and cocktail list as well. The food here is awesome. The space is HUGE and laid out so that you can enjoy any kind of ambiance you want (except for maybe the candle-lit vibe...but then you'd be asking for too much imho). There's even a space with couches and a fireplace to eat, drink and be merry. Oh yea...and TV's all around for watching the game. Just can't say enough about this place.
Service is top notch and the cheese curds will change your world. I go there regularly and am never disappointed. The staff is very accommodating and always on it. Highly recommend Old Town Social to anyone looking for a nice, causal, bar vibe.
Old town Social is the best local bar ever. I live right across the street and go there every week. The service is great and they have awesome diverse food selections. I especially enjoy their charcootaree.
I've only been for brunch, but they are doing great things. I really enjoy the food and I've had great service every time. This is definitely a go to spot for me now and look forward to more great meals.
This place is awesome. Good food and drinks. On Friday's and Saturdays the place is filled with beautiful, friendly woman. Nice relaxed atmosphere and hot music. You really have to come here.
If you are looking for a nice date spot, perhaps for the first or second date this place is great. Nice environment, the music is great, decent drink prices and an overall great environment. Towards the end of the evening, they turn the lights down and it turns into more of a bar/lounge, perfect for taking a group of friends before getting wild for the night.
'OTS' is a solid option for brunch or a weekday evening drink. On the weekends the vibe is rowdier. Brunch was my most recent experience and I enjoyed the experience. The vibe is casual and cool. More importantly, the food is good. Brunch has some standouts. The sausage and waffles were most memorable. Chicken and waffles is played out and doesn't balance nearly as well as sausage and waffles. Especially an OTS housemade sausage. The waffles are made from corn and have complexity that pairs well with the sausage and syrup. The duck wings are tasty. The chilaguilles were good but not awesome. Beignets are a bit flat but had good sweetness. Points for serving Colombe coffee. Points for friendly staff, too. Excellent brunch spot, just be sure to make a reservation if brunch happens after noon time for you..
Great place to grab a drink with a friend/date or head to on the weekend at night. I haven't tried there food, but on my list to go back to. Be warned there might be a line on the weekends to get in.
Old Town Social offers a number of great burgers. The OTS is the now classic "egg on top of a burger" combo, and came recommended as their most popular burger. A good juicy patty and a perfectly cooked egg make this combination work. The housemade bacon and Gruyere complement each other and round out the "breakfast effect" of the burger. The bun was the final element and supported the rather tall burger quite well. This burger was quite good, and I'd be curious to give some of the others at Old Town Social a try.
I came here for the $5 wine & cheese tasting and so did a hundred other people. It was pretty crowded but since we got there early, we were able to secure a table. This is a really classy restaurant/bar. I love the decor. There are 2 private booths with curtains for a more intimate dining experience, outdoor seating (with high bar chairs), and a second bar at the back. Initially, it was off to a rough start because the wine tasting started out late. We ordered some food to hold us over. When it finally started, we left our table to get some wine & cheese, with our untouched food sitting on the table thinking it'll be safe...wrong! When we return, this random guy is at our table and ate half of our food!!! Weirdo!!! He refused to pay and just left us hanging there. Luckily, the server and bar manager Joe were really cool and apologetic about it and ordered us another one. We ordered the fish sandwich and hand cut fries...DELICIOUS!!! Hands down, it was the best fish sandwich I've ever tasted. It was cooked just right and the flavor was just awesome. The fries were also yummy. It came with a mayo dip. So, it was definitely worth the wait. It was off to an awkward night but ended greatly. I will most definitely return here to check out their regular evenings (so it's not super crowded).
For some crazy reason, this is one of my favorite grown up bars in the city. The food is awesome (veggie burger and frites!), the wine is delightful, and the beer selection is very sophisticated. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, save for a odd music track every so often. Now, the secret to enjoying this place as a grown up is to eat an early-ish dinner (6:00 or so), and to run out before the hip-n-cool crowds start to arrive. Sitting in front of the fireplace in the winter is one of my favorite cozy activities. If we lived in the 'hood, this would be our neighborhood bar.
Old Town Social is a great spot to grab drinks. The bar has a cool atmosphere with exposed beams and vintage lighting. The crowd is always friendly and never too crowded. However, I'm docking 1 star, because drinks are a little expensive.
This is a great spot - the food and service are awesome. It's a sports bar, but more upscale. I don't even watch sports and I love it here. Good music, good drinks, good vibe. The only improvement would be their brunch - they don't do eggs! But all the other food is great.
Huge wraparound booths and oversized TVs make it the perfect place for your group's next game-watching night out. The food is quite good, featuring American classics and seasonal ingredients. I also enjoyed their house cocktails especially their take on a Manhattan.
Previously I had only been to Old Town Social for drinks, but last week we met up for dinner to celebrate a friend's birthday. The decor is great. Feels intimate without being too dark or over the top. The booths are comfortable and can fit a larger group easily. I tried the OTS burger (which had gruyere and bacon!) It was fantastic! My friends also had the beet and goat cheese salad and the mac & cheese, both were tasty. I would definitely come here again for both drinks and food.
Fresh and delicious for dinner and drinks, trendy and a line on weekends. Really enjoy the fact that all food is made in house and they have a topnotch charcuterie with a wide selection if meats & cheeses. They even make their own ketchup (which I appreciate, although I wish it was Heinz!) Two staples: grilled cheese and tomato soup and the brisket sandwich. Nice big booths are comfy for dining with a group.
Their duck wings are phenomenal. Seriously, phenomenal. Order the duck wings. They're expensive, but order them anyway. The tacos were also pretty good, but the drinks are really expensive; I think it may even be cheaper to drink at a Second City show.
The atmosphere at this bar is the main attraction. It is a great spot with low lighting and an exclusive feel. I went for a birthday dinner, the small plates and drinks were on point for a special night out.
Hands down the best pretzel bits you will ever eat! Pretty good bar, would definitely stay away from it on a weekend afternoon/night, but if you want a bite to eat during the week I'd definitely stop in.
Fun bar with good food and beer. Been here a couple times and it has always been fun. Outdoor seating is nice in the summer but very limited. Big menu with something for everyone.
Excellent beer selection, good cocktails too. Pricing isn't great across the board, but the selection mostly justifies it. Great music on a Friday night, but not the ideal place if you're looking for conversation. Didn't try the food, but it smelled delicious. Overall a good place, and I would come back.
Old Town Social is great for a quick beer, a long night out or a first date. I've been here a few times, including NYE 2010, and the atmosphere is pretty chill. Filled with young professionals, most people are relaxed but if you're looking dinner before hitting up the River North clubs, you can't go wrong. The service here is hit or miss, as I've had great waitresses, a disgruntled bartender and was once told off by the manager when I called to tell them about a potential case of food poisoning we caught from their burgers. The menu is pretty creative and the drinks are normally good, but as I mentioned above, my friends and I once caught a bit of food poisoning that we believe stemmed from the burgers there. That said, I've had enough good experiences here that I'll come back again.
They have an excellent beer selection and very interesting appetizers, like their duck wings. Yum! This is a really fun atmosphere for night life! They have brunch, but it's not my cup of tea, so I wouldn't recommend it. Go for drinks and appetizers though for sure!
The burgers are so juicy!!! Defiantly recommend trying a burger, especially with the delicious pretzel bun! Pretzel bites are also a must-try! I would not get the beef brisket sandwich again but this is also not a BBQ place. The service could have been better. Ambiance is super cool, absolutely love the low lighting and wood fire. The place did seem a little sports bar-ish but still an overall great place for a bite to eat and a modest priced cocktail.
Chicago Dining Pass brought my boyfriend and I in for a BOGO burger / sandwich. Friday evening around 7 and the place was crowded with regulars - families of all ages and young couples. I found it a very cozy atmosphere for a more classy sports bar / neighborhood go-to. Our server Melissa was friendly, knowledgeable, and totally on the ball with recommendations and efficient service. The burgers were super satisfying (two single patties, cooked just right at medium rare I believe) and the housemade tortilla chips were phenomenally addictive! If I lived nearby, I would definitely come again, and take advantage of the "neighbor discount" I heard tell about. Overall, recommend. Service 5/5 Food 4/5 Ambiance 4.5/5 P.S.: the free dessert with yelp check-in is a lie - there's no dessert! But the experience is pretty sweet as it is, so...
Nice place for a quick bite to eat & a drink, however nothing super special. It seems like a good neighborhood bar to meet up at. Service was good. Appetizers were average, and a bit small in portion size. Fish tacos were small for $3.50 each. Took quite a while to get the devil egg appetizer. Ok place if I'm the neighborhood but I wouldn't go out of my way.
This bar is a great spot to start the night, unless its Halloween. Its a great bar but when it gets to capacity its tough to get a drink. Other than that its a perfect for a low key kick off to the night any night of the week.
we ate and had drinks. the patte was good but the atmosphere isn't something i was into. It was very dark and didn't fit the food. the food needs an atmosphere of warm wood but this was like dark night club.
I ended up having an okay time (thanks to the $15 mimosa bucket which includes an entire bottle of champagne + OJ carafe). The ambiance is really cool, not a bad location either. But, the food quality and service were subpar. The food didn’t have much flavor. My waffle was dry and crumbly and the sausage barely looked cooked...it was still wet and pink looking...We arrived right as they opened and our server barely checked on us and the food runner was pretty rude at some points (he did apologize after the fact though). Overall it was just okay. I’d only come back for the mimosas.
Definitely not my kind of place. The back bar was really hot and they had a blower as their A/C at least for that section. It was also very loud. That all said they had a great drink selection. It also seemed like a good local spot if that was your vibe, just not mine.
Decor is great - high ceilings, pretty wood and big booths. Great for happy hours/big groups. I also love that the TVs retract so you can get your sports fix without having the distraction all the time. Food is great and interesting - we particularly liked the house pickles and the waffles and sausage. Appetizers are good for sharing small plates-style. I'd definitely recommend the beer flights - they've got a pretty good selection. The bourbon amber is crazy delicious, so that should definitely be on the list.
Pretty nice place. Went for new years so not a lot of seating but the drink package wasn't bad and the price wasn't awful. Like all bars a few angry door guys and a few snoppy bartenders but everyone for the most part seemed like great people. I would probably go back for an afternoon drink with some friends, or a chill evening with co-workers. Definitely not a clubby spot.
Old Town Social is very warm and inviting. I visited for Sunday brunch, and I was impressed by the decor and floor plan (seats plenty, but you're not too close to other diners). I would recommend calling ahead for a table for brunch, particularly if you have a large party. I really enjoyed their Bellini and the chilaquiles. There were a few things that could be better (salsa, avocado, pico, black beans...) since the dish was served fairly plain with no sides. It was tasty, but overall not anything you can't get at any other upscale brunch place in Old Town, River North, Lincoln Park, or Lake View. I would maybe revisit Old Town Social for drinks in the evening instead of for brunch.
This place doesn't know what it wants to be - a club? a hipster bar? both? Neither. For a place that has "social" in its name the music is far too loud for anyone to be social. The atmosphere contradicts itself at every step. Cocktails were decent but nothing particularly impressive.
Depending on the night and the level of occupancy this can either be a hit or a bust. Sometimes it gets way too crowded and the DJ plays the music WAY too loud. Other nights, if we have a group, we will reserve a table behind the bar and I have a much better time then.
Excellent food, the ribs are delicious. The bar gets pretty busy at night and there is usually a line, so get there early or be prepared to wait. Good prices, around a lot of other great places.
This place gets points for ambience. I went there for a networking event, and they had free drinks and apps whcih were sponsored. Never got to actually enjoy the food and drinks here. However, the place was amazing. Its HUGE and all wooden and has a great combination of space and nooks. They even have a little elevated platform with more seating, but that area looks a little different, more old fashioned with lots of leather. And props for having a fireplace, would work well in the winter!
I went here with some friends for a Sunday Brunch. It took quite a while before we even got to put in a drink order. They were out of a couple things our group tried to order and then the waitress told us we had old menus and got us new ones. It took over an hour to get food, despite the place not being packed. By the time it got out, everyone was hangry. Some of the food came out cold, our coffee was never refilled, and overall it was disappointing. On the high side, my burger was tasty. It took quite a while after we asked for the check, and there were items that we didn’t order on it. We got that fixed and the waitress gave us some extra money off, which was nice. Definitely won’t return, despite some pretty good (albeit expensive) dinners there before.
I was kicked out after checking to see how my girlfriend was doing smoking a cigarette. When I asked the waitress Ann said I was intoxicated and spilled all over her which is not true I bumped into her while we passed and she refused to give me a refund on the $10 tip I left her before this happened on a $35 bill. Never go here again if Ann is your server or the old dude with a pony tail is the bartender because they refuse to help. Garbage service and she hid when I asked her why she kicked me out and would not give me my money back. Ann is a disgrace and the pony tail guy looked at my like I was an idiot for asking for my money back for being irrationally kicked out for no reason. There is no 0 star option. Ann will Rob you blind with horrible service.
