Opinions de Medicine Bakery - Codsall Codsall
I booked a table the day before for brunch. We both had a vegan medicine, which consisted of falafel, a hash brown, sourdough bread with a sauce. I didn't have the avocado and mushroom on mine. It was all nice, they gave me two slices of sourdough, which was too much for me to eat. Definitely would go again, but probably during the lunch time rush. The cakes are lovely I brought a blueberry donut. I shared it with my husband.
Great customer service at the Medicine bakery in Codsall. It was a lovely atmosphere to dine in and beautiful delicious food. Staff asked how we were and if we wanted any more drinks. The breakfast options are different to standard cafés, the options are great and our children thoroughly enjoyed eating at the Medicine bakery too. Felt brilliant to finally find a great place to eat and dine in.
First time visiting and was recommended to us. A relaxed, lovely atmosphere with clean open space. Menu had plenty of good options including vegetarian and gluten free. Menu included brunch, lunches, burgers and fresh baked cakes and slices and as its a bakery all bread is also fresh, as its made on site. I was impressed by a good range of drinks. I found the prices very reasonable. Free parking near by.
Lovely place, the staff are very helpful, we asked to be moved and as soon as a table was available, they offered it to us. The food is presented beautifully. I chose a vegan option, I couldn't believe it wasn't meat, and they use high-quality products. It was my first time here, and I will be going again. Lots of choice on the menu for vegetarians and plant based options.
I’ve had the pleasure of visiting the Medicine Kitchen a few times recently, and I can see why it’s become a staple for “those who do lunch” or for anyone after something a little more upmarket while on the run. Unlike most highstreet coffee shops (yes, even including the green sea witch’s favourite haunt), this place offers the winning combo of a sitdown, shown to your table service alongside a working bakery. Food-wise, I went for a flat white, eggs benedict, and a slice of carrot cake. Not a mouthful of disappointment in sight...just morsel after morsel of satisfaction. Service was spot on. Even with a queue forming, three or four staff were working the floor and handling it brilliantly. To the team: thank you, you made the experience really pleasant. Price wise, expect typical high-street levels. Around £9 for a drink and cake, and about £38 for two eggs benedict plus three hot drinks. Value for what you get. Overall: definitely worth a stop if you’re in the area.
Went for breakfast yesterday. Had never booked but luckily got a place. Service was good. The food was amazing- presented well and tasted even better. Just realized they sell sourdough bread too so bought some and it is perfect. 100% recommended and would have to come again to try different things on the menu ❤️
Went for Brunch today and found this great place. In the middle of Codsall and plenty of parking spaces. On arrival we were welcomed with a speedy service and allowed us to choose our seating. The menu was far from the normal bacon and eggs, and had a various selection that should suit many tastes. There was a great selection of cakes and buns together with the bread makes it an excellent place for buying goods for home.
Really lovely! Welcoming & polite. Seated quickly, even without a reservation. Ordered lattes and baked goods from the counter. Delicious. Atmosphere was brilliant.
Had a lovely brunch here of the medicine breakfast, other member of my party had the Reuben sandwich both very nice meals, lovely coffees and chai latte. Service was friendly and quick even though it was very busy. Will definitely visit again. We picked up some sweet pastries to try as well that look amazing!
We visited on a Sunday morning, the place was very busy and we had to wait a very, very long time, but was worth the wait. Food is very well presented, with big portions and tested incredible. I don't know about prices as someone else paid it. The Bakery section is one of the best around. Can't wait to go back!
We popped in Thursday 11th September after seeing a video on TikTok and it did not disappoint. We got there around 12pm, right in the middle of the rush, but it didn’t affect the service at all. The staff were all smiles, really friendly, and our food came out quicker than expected considering how busy it was. The place had such a nice atmosphere lots of people chatting, laughing and just enjoying themselves. We also grabbed a few bits to take home for the family. We’ll definitely be back.
I have brought takeout foods and had To good to go orders. Always a nice selection. Absolutely love the Rueben sandwich. Fruit flapjack is delicious. I’m not a big donut fan but they always look great. Always very busy whenever I have been. Highly recommend.
Absolutely love it here! Really varied and interesting menu, with lots of vegetarian and vegan options. The atmosphere and service is really good and feels sophisticated. I would say that it is quite expensive so if you are looking for a cheap brunch then it is not the best place to come, but I do think you get your moneys worth for the atmosphere and such nicely presented food. I highly recommend the smoothies and homemade lemonade for drinks - I would also say it’s a lovely place to come and sit and have a drink and a baked good.
Made a quick stop during lunchtime at work, food was served promptly and presented well. Nice clean place and a good atmosphere with the bakery etc. the food was great would visit again.
I had the French toast with bacon and maple syrup, the portion size was huge (for me anyway!) Food was beautiful and they also have a little bakery. Bought some really nice pork and apple sausage rolls and a jam doughnut (there was soooo much jam!) Would definitely recommend eating here.
I can't even begin to explain how much I love this place! I live on the other side of wolves really but am more than happy to drive across for what is always a super treat! I fell in love with Medicine whilst commuting to work in Birmingham at their gallery branch in town... Only to discover there was one in Codsall - gamechanger!!! ☺️ Their savoury food is just 🤤 but their cakes... WOW! This particular trip was an extra special treat as we hadn't left the house much due to Covid so I made sure I stocked up! We got a Birthday Cake Cruffin, which had B'day icing at the top and a birthday cake flavoured custard throughout it... Delish! My mom had a brownie doughnut, which she thoroughly enjoyed. I then had the two cronuts, one rasberry and white chocolate and the other Apple tart tatin... Unless you've had them you won't understand how incredibly unreal they are!!! So glad that people are continuing to support this place - it's amazing!!! 😁❤️
Amazing lunch here. Yes i went for chicken and french toast during lunch and it was very filling. Drinks - Matcha tea and chai tea latte. Attentive staff even though they were busy. I wil be coming again!
The most amazing food anyone has tasted the staff very helpful and kind always I can sure you’re enjoying the food the food overall is immaculate the café is clean. drinks are amazing overall an amazing bakery I’ve been there loads of times now I don’t keep going back.
Friendly staff, good options for vegetarians and vegans. Sunday from 11:30am, busy, would recommend booking. Pictured: large soya Cappuccino and jalapeno cornbread, guacamole, sweetcorn salsa with a side of halloumi Generous portions, good flavour.
Always wanted to try the food here, didn’t have to sit in but grabbed a sandwich to takeaway. Not your usual cafe, a very warm and welcoming atmosphere. Perfect cooked and with quality produce. Staff were polite and helpful, they also kept on top of everything for the few minutes I was waiting. I look forward to coming back this weekend. Keep up the great work.
What can I say just go, if you haven’t been you’ll want to go everyday if you’ve got a bottomless wallet. I’ve been here a few times, it’s just gets better. Finished the meal with a brioche jam doughnut 🍩 it’s a messy job but someone’s gotta do it 😉. Not a cheap place but the quality is here.
Lovely spot and great food, Jade the manager is brilliant and really made our visit, she was super helpful and friendly. Definitely recommend and will be back when I’m in the area.
Friendly staff. Food is gorgeous. Was very busy today. Best idea is to prebook your table at the present time a lot of people were having to be turned away as there were no tables available. OMG the cakes on display are amazing 😜😋. I had the breakfast (really tasty) with a Latte and my friend the Halloumi and bacon brioche with an iced coffee. All very well presented and not too long a delay from time of ordering to plates served. All lovely. Allocated time for the table was 1 hour. Wud def visit again 👍👍👍👍👍👍
The food here is really tasty with a wide range of options on their menu. I had the Medicine brunch, which had a different take on a full English. The hash brown was flavoured with spice and the tomato sauce was nice. Greens on the side was a nice addition. Definitely book a table before coming here, it was packed when we arrived. It was loud inside, I was having to raise my voice to speak. It's very pricey here, be prepared to pay London prices despite being a few hundred miles away from it.
It was my 1st time ever and the same with my girlfriend. The cafe and bakery was very busy. The guy with the beard gave us a table in the busy period. We both had brioche toast with bacon, maple syrup and icing sugar. That was a fantastic dish for £11 but it took us by surprise as it was a good amount of bacon and brioche toast the flavours were really well together. The only thing I would say it that you need to put more vanilla in the brioche bread so that the flavours kick in more. The coffee was amazing and I also had a lovely fruit tart with vegen coconut hot chocolate. The staff were friendly and helpful well done for your fantastic service and your hard work.
Went there for a weekday brunch. There were not a great number of vegan options, but the ones we tried were delicious. We had the vegan brunch and vegan reuben. The reuben in particular was really stand-out (the celeriac was fantastic and the 'pastrami' was next level). Looked like a good pastry selection, but again, only a few were vegan, and these had sold out by 11:30. Service was excellent and speedy given how busy it was. Also the server was delightful. Highly recommend.
It was delicious 😋 very filling but very tasty. I wasn't keen on my table as half on and the seating area in the middle of the bakery x quite loud but calmed down after a while I enjoyed the food and time spent with family 👪 😊
I booked a table for my friends brunch, firstly i told the waiter there will be 4 of us including one child can we have a booth , at that time only three of us arrived and he wanted to put us in the window table which i knew wouldn’t be enough, he looked at me like i was mad and said all of you will be okay here. when i knew we wouldn’t so we took out seats whilst waiting a lady asked if we was ready to order i said no as were waiting on two more people can i just get water for the table she rolled her eyes like it will effect her whole day and we didn’t get that water for the table once my friend and lil one arrived they then came to realise we need a booth the same waiter from the start who looked at me like i was mad asked if we wanted to move to a booth as it looks cramped i then replied to him and said well i did tell you that ,he had no answer we have now moved to the booth took food and drink order food came but no drinks had ,come including the water for the table from the start bare in mind the place wasn't busy, so im not sure what the issue was but i can assure you i wont be back
Medicine is hit or miss. On 3 different visits we found the coffees bitter or over extracted, even from different locations. (The double macchiato comes in a massive glass too, making it look underwhelming, this has happened on 2 different occasions.) However the food is very nice and makes up for it! Portion size between the dishes might need addressing as some more expensive dishes are smaller than cheaper ones. The bakery is its star selling point with very nice selection of options. Members of staff can be hit and miss as well. Overall medicine needs to tweak key important aspects to their chains to justify their demeanour and grand aesthetics.
I know this is a really popular place, however I found it to be overrated in my opinion. Service was slow, think the girl actually forgot to take our order after seating us. Food looked and sounded good but I didn't enjoy it. Although my husband said the elderflower, rosemary and honey water was delicious.
Nice place. Nice decor and strange toilet situation. The staff aren't as attentive as they should be. Felt like I waited 3-5 business days to order. Order a vegetarian breakfast, but I didn't want the kale or avocado but they were unable to swap it out for other foods as this would rip a hole in space and time. I ordered a black coffee and was offered milk with it....Anyway the food was okay. There was a hair on my plate, not mine. Maybe this was my replacement for kale and avocado. The toilet situation was odd. One disabled toilet only with an actual key to lock the door.
It's a shame, every time I come it's the same thing. Food is great, service is extremely slow (waited over an hour for food) and it's too noisy, acoustic panelling/soft furnishings wouldn't go amiss. Overall it's not worth it.
The food was amazing and the coffee was perfect. However half an hour into our booking we were given a 20min warning theatre they needed our table back, again by someone else 5min later. Then again 10minutes after that. Whilst I understand they have time limits, hounding customers for the table make you feel like you're in the way and not appreciative of your custom. I booked for an hour, I know when we need to go!!!
Really loud, then added music into it. Staff look miserable. Food was cold. Over priced plus a service charge. No real homely service. Would not let me sit in a booth even though i have a back problem, there was two booths free the whole time. Obviously waiting to maximise with 3 or more walking in for a table. So returned our food and left! Not even an apology! Such a shame, wont be coming back.
Medicine is one of those busy local cafes that appears to be the victim of its own success. Replicating an aesthetic now synonymous with ‘hip’ brunch venues, the place looks nice and has the usual white subway tiles and houseplants we’ve come to expect when looking for a nice place to grab a coffee or a bite to eat. We had a confusing interaction via social media when a friend asked if we could bring a small dog to our booking for Sunday brunch (it’s a mini dachshund so it is genuinely small). They replied quickly to say the place gets busy so they’d recommend leaving him at home. Unfortunately he has severe separation anxiety so we couldn’t just leave him, but as they didn’t say dogs weren’t allowed in ANY of the communication we thought ‘oh well he’s snuggle up on a lap and not take up any space.’ Medicine itself has no signs that indicate dogs aren’t allowed, and when we arrived, the lady at the counter smiled at both us and our dog and pointed out our seats. When our friends had arrived and we were reading menus a whole 20 minutes later, the same lady came back and said ‘I need to let you know we don’t allow dogs in here. You can stay, but just so you know for next time.’ We were grateful she’d made an exception but very confused and a bit patronised. We then had our cutlery silently and angrily handed to us by a waiter. He was borderline rude. The place was busy, but I hear it is always busy on Sundays so I would expect they plan for this to make sure staff aren’t stressed to the point of rudeness. Waiting for food, I noticed the place was actually quite grimy, with air conditioning units coated in dust, with little chunks falling into the air at regular intervals (pictured). The floor behind the counter was also really dirty with people walking in and out of the kitchen onto messy floors. Our table was a little sticky with rolled up cling film hidden behind a plant that looked decidedly unhappy. It wasn’t too alarming, but gave the impression of slipping hygiene standards when busy. The waiter continued to be very short with us and snapped at one of us who chose a vegan hot chocolate from the menu: ‘we have no vegan hot chocolate left, you can have normal’ which was entirely unhelpful and terse. The food itself was pretty nice. The vegan and gluten free options (which places similar to this are usually much better at) were ok but seemed very much like afterthoughts with some ingredients taken away to make dishes suitable and any optional extras for the vegan meals contained dairy, egg or meat. Our friends who had non-vegan food said theirs was pretty good overall and the price point isn’t too high for any of it either. There was a wait for food which was absolutely fine, but we had only just finished eating when the rude waiter returned to tell us our table booking was for a specific amount of time and we had gone over that. Feels a lot like he might have delivered better customer service if he’d notified us either at the beginning or perhaps with 15 minutes to go until we overstayed our welcome. Overall a relatively unpleasant dining experience with some fairly good food. Medicine really need to sort out hygiene, customer service, inclusive menu planning and managing high demand if they want to deliver the kind of quality they seem so keen to convey.
Saw a lot of hype around this place, so came to check it out. Advertises table service, but after a long wait, had to eventually call a server over, also had to wait about 20 minutes for a coffee. After waiting over an hour for food, we asked about where it was as we would have to go. We were told the chef is just starting it. When we said not to bother as we were going, we were then told it was all cooked, just about to be plated up, so we asked for it to come in take out boxes. This took a further 15 minutes. Talking to other customers while we waited, they’d had similar issues. When it came over, we were missing two meals. Where we were told they were just waiting to be boxed up. Another 10 minutes. I imagine our ticket got lost. These things happen, we’d have just preferred to be told than clearly lied to. This would have been 1 star, but I will say they did give us some free pastries and a little discount which was a little sweetener, and the young girl working at the till was really apologetic and polite. Unfortunately, didn’t get her name, but the extra star is for her. I do think they either need to recruit or reduce the number of tables in order to supply the demand they’ve built up, it could be a great little spot, but it just seems at the minute, they’re a bit out of their depth.
Very poor service 'without a smile!' Despite booking a table we were left waiting a considerable amount of time before being shown to a table. There were no menus to look at and no staff around so we asked the people on another table if we could look at theirs. Again, time was passing without any order being taken and we again had to get the attention of staff. Food was nice but not overwhelming, tables too close together for privacy and object to the 'discretionary' service charge added.
Terrible service and lazy and uninterested staff. Came here for a drink with a friend wasn’t busy was told it was table service the guy said he would be over we waited 20 min before realising he had forgotten or just couldn’t be arsed to serve us we then asked another waiter they said they would be over in just a minute but instead was more interested in cleaning tables that were already cleaned whilst sitting down trying to look busy and then walked straight past us to serve another table that was another 10 mins. So got up and left went to the pub which was much better service and better drinks and was cheaper. Won’t ever come again might look fancy but rubbish
I would like to share my feedback about our recent visit to The Medicine Bakery on Saturday 8/11/25. Following the social media exposure I hope you appreciate that we were thoroughly looking forward to our visit. I booked through your website , which referred me to OpenTable. Our booking was 4pm - 5.30pm according to my email confirmation. We arrived at 4pm to be told the kitchen closes at 4pm. Disappointed but they said we could still order food. We had to make a rushed decision. We both ordered salad bowls, which were lovely but unfortunately the brown rice was very hard and we both couldn’t eat it. Brown rice has to be cooked a lot longer than white rice. We also ordered drinks. As we are enjoying our meals we notice the music stops, chairs are being stacked on tables and the floor is being mopped, whilst we’re still eating. No one gave us the heads up that they were closing until it became quite obvious so we asked for take away boxes. We mentioned to our server, who was brilliant I must add, that the rice was undercooked. He told a lady with green hair our feedback which we were not making an issue. Her reaction was quite aggressive as she stated “that rice is not undercooked!!” Her tone was not very friendly, albeit she was not speaking directly to us. The young chap removed the drinks from our bill as goodwill for the rice which was a lovely surprise that was appreciated. Still no one has addressed that our visit was cut short. We drove to codsall especially for this lunch, as we are mums who meet up monthly for a meal. Unfortunately visiting the medicine bar makes us feel that we haven’t experienced our outing this month as it was cut short. More importantly we didn’t get the opportunity to try the yummy cakes and pastries. My advice is to liaise with open table to make sure the booking times and slots are correct and please have staff communicate that they are closing. I appreciate they wanted to get home but we had a booking until 5.30pm. Sara is useless. You can just about get a reply. Took over a week for a lack lustre response. She sent £10 voucher We would like to send you a voucher to reuse for your next monthly meeting” £10 wouldn’t even cover a drink! Let alone cover my petrol to and from Codsall. I am somewhat offended by this and have decided that we won’t be returning to Medicine Bakery ever again based on its lack of customer service and lack of customer relations. I will be sharing feedback with others about this overall experience! Lesson learnt; virality of an establishment does not guarantee a good time or good service.
I’ve been to my local Medicine Bakery in Codsall many times now and unfortunately the experience is consistently disappointing. The service is always incredibly slow no matter what time or day we go — even for something as simple as scrambled eggs & a breakfast brioche, we waited over 33 minutes in that time the coffee had gone cold too. Even the coffee itself took over 10 minutes to come out, and the cafe wasn’t even busy. It seems like they never have enough staff or chefs in the kitchen maybe. I could understand this happening once or twice on a particularly busy day, but it’s every single time we visit sadly. We have been to other Medicine Bakery locations and they’re nothing like this — Codsall is by far the worst one, which is a shame because it’s our local. In the summer, we actually sat outside and had a terrible experience with wasps swarming around the tables. There were leftover food plates purposely left to attract them, and even after someone came to clean, they didn’t take the plates away, meaning we were eating surrounded by wasps. Completely unacceptable, so we had to move indoors. As for the food, it’s very hit or miss. On one occasion, the sourdough breakfast came out rock solid and I had to send it back. Overall, the quality, speed, and management of this branch are nowhere near the standard of the other Medicine Bakeries. A real shame because it could be a lovely spot, but as it stands, it’s not worth the hassle.
A big big disappointment!!! Booked a table for 4pm on a Sunday to only be told when you’ve turned up that the kitchen also closes at 4pm. The looks from the kitchen staff didn’t help either. No where does it state that kitchen closes at 4pm. The website states opening till 5pm. OpenTable state 4:30pm. A wasted time and journey. I’m sure the food would had been nice but didn’t get the chance to have any.
Disappointed, not impressed and won’t be going again. i arrived today, about 11ish and when i was seated ordered the main Brunch meal, upgraded with an extra item and had a coffee. Service was uninterested, generally slow and it just didn’t feel at all personal. Then, the most disappointing brunch arrived, and it was horrible. Let’s break its down. A good quarterly of the plate hosted the most bland, ice cold (yes, ice is the word i would use) uncooked cavolo nero, nestled next to wafer thing sliced, unseasoned flavorless sliced mushroom. I say the word mushroom and not mushrooms decease i would guess it was barely one whole mushroom used. There was one slice of bacon… it resembled a cooked crisp slice of prosciutto (cooked yesterday i might add), brittle, oddly lifeless, it delivered texture without taste - a dry snap followed much at all. Despite their impressive size, the sausages tasted like oversized cocktail sausages that had been briefly reheated. Only mildly warm, with no snap in the casing and a tight, slightly rubbery centre, they delivered warmth without freshness and bulk without character. e unbuttered sourdough was serviceable if uninspired. One side featured a modest teaspoon of baked beans; the other, a softly set but curiously flavourless egg. With neither richness nor seasoning to elevate it, the plate felt more assembled than crafted. Paying extra for the black pudding proved worthwhile. It arrived hot, crisp-edged and full of flavour, as though cooked to order rather than retrieved from the holding plate that seemed to govern the rest of the brunch. The coffee I ordered when the food arrived never came. All in all, for just shy of £20 without drinks, the experience felt underwhelming. The meal itself was largely cold and lacking flavour, and the setting did little to compensate. I was perched on a tiny metal stool that felt as cold as the plate in front of me, served by a team who appeared tired and distant rather than welcoming. I also forgot to mention the new potatoes. Three small ones, cut in half, bland and unseasoned, adding bulk but very little else. It certainly looks pretty in the photo, but that is as good as it gets. I left not feeling warm or satisfied, just slightly cold and, if I am honest, a bit bloated. I will not be returning.
Would rate 0 if I could. I paid £5—yes, FIVE POUNDS—for what was supposedly a berry cheesecake donut, and I genuinely cannot believe the audacity. For that price, I expected something indulgent, rich, and absolutely stuffed with flavour. What I got instead was a dry, mediocre disappointment that tasted like it had been sitting out for hours, maybe even days. Not only was there no berry tang or any actual cheesecake essence, but here’s the real kicker: there was no filling. None. Zilch. Not a drop of berry compote, not a hint of creamy cheesecake centre—just an overpriced, underwhelming lump of dough masquerading as something special with a bit of icing on top. For £5, I could’ve bought an entire pack of fresh, quality donuts from a supermarket and still had change left for an actual dessert. But instead, I got scammed by what’s essentially a glorified bread roll. If you’re going to charge that much, at least put something inside it. This wasn’t a treat—it was daylight robbery. Save your money, your tastebuds, and your dignity. Avoid at all costs.
The Staff were fantastic, let me make that point first. However the Food tasted amazing but the organisation/amount of food was horrendous. Ordered scrambled egg on sourdough toast, got two slices of nearly burnt/burnt toast and only one had a measley amount of egg on... And for the price of this coffee shop, I have to say what you get is way over priced. For myself and my partner and our two year old we had 3 drinks, 3 cakes & 2 meals with measley portions and it came to over £42
Ordered an almond croissant to take out, about half way through I found a big curly black hair. Sent a message via Instagram DM which was read and then no feedback within two days. Poor service and hygiene standards not up to scratch.
We were initially seated and given menus, only to be asked to move because we were apparently sitting in the wrong spot even though it was the staff who seated us there. Not the best start to our visit to Medicine Codsall for brunch with a friend, and unfortunately, things only went downhill from there. I ordered the Korean chicken brioche without coleslaw and mayo, while my friend ordered the same with. When the food arrived, both dishes came without the coleslaw and mayo. When we asked about it, we were given a small portion of plain chopped cabbage with a squirt of mayo on top nothing like what was described on the menu. Before ordering, I specifically asked the server what the sauce on the burger was, as I have allergies. She assured me it was “slightly spicy,” but instead it was overly sweet and, more worryingly, the chicken was undercooked. You could actually see blood in the chicken. When we politely raised this with our server, we were met with a dismissive remark about the chicken’s temperature being checked, rather than any genuine concern for our feedback. We ended up returning both meals, yet were still charged £38 for two dishes we couldn’t eat and two soft drinks. I felt awful handing over that money, knowing it was completely wasted. And we barely got an apology. When it came to paying, the woman handling the bill (presumably the manager) was curt, unapologetic, and made no effort to adjust the charge. It’s a real shame the venue itself is lovely, but the poor food quality and lack of customer care made this a very disappointing experience. Sadly, we won’t be returning. Definitely overrated
