Favorite hidden Mexican Restaurant. Very unassuming as it is hidden in a shopping center, but when you walk in the atmosphere is great and on occasion they have a mariachi band. The food is delicious and the drinks are tall and strong. You couldn't ask for much more.
Best kept secret. Amazing value for incredible food. The mole and tejanas enchiladas are amazing, and when you can eat in person the beer deals are great. Way better than any of the touristy Austin Tex-mex spots!
The only thing that didn't taste scratch-cooked were the tortilla chips. Service was solid and food was cooked surprisingly well. If they worked on their plating, they could easily be on the next level. Was also on a date with a beautiful woman so that helps. Drink all the tequila!!!
Excellent food and service! Love the two Chile relleno options listed under (Mexican Interior). The Cochinita pibil and Fajitas are good too! Also like that they have a “Mexican Interior” and “Tejano” section as both styles of Mexican food have their differences. This restaurant is a solid choice any night of the week.
This is a great place for lunch. Lunch specials are great and the tortilla soup with an enchilada is the best. lots of really good food. Always point on with the take out. The regular menu is really a fresh change from the rest for a nice dinner.
The food was very good! If you like spicy foods the salsa will be great for you. The chips were fresh and hot for the salsa. All food we had lastnight was hot and fresh. It was all delicious, filling and reasonable priced.
Happy hour 4 - 7 PM. $1 off appetizers and blue loco margarita (20 oz) for $10. Appetizers are enough for dinner. Awesome food. Carlos is a good server. One of my favorites.
Azul Tequila rules. Good frozen margaritas and queso, never too crowded. Low-key, no frills, really good Mexican food. You might not expect much from a restaurant inside a strip mall, but this place is a hidden gem.
I usually don’t come to south Austin much, but now I definitely should. Food was great. Taste, quality, and freshness all on point. Esteban the waiter acted very professional. You can see the experience. 10/10 for sure
We tried this place for the first time which was recommended by an employee at a store near there. This place was so good! I had the shrimp over onions and bell peppers with white rice and black beans...so good! Service was amazing and the restaurant was clean.
I love this restaurant! We are continuous customers and was saddened when we thought we we're moving because it wouldn't be close to us anymore. They've got a happy hour every day 4-7 and their food is delicious. The Alamo Enchiladas and Chille Rellenno (very spicy) are really good. The Mexican Martini's rock and the Mariachi's are very entertaining...Just wish the place was a little bigger.
First time here...Garcias was too crowded and knew I couldn't even get in at Chuys for my favorite tortilla soup...my husband said, let's try this one. Boy was I glad! The tortilla soup was perfect...light broth with lots of veggies and white meat chicken...sprinkling of tortilla chips, avocado, and just the right amount of cheese on top. All this and mariachis, too. Worth the drive for us from corpus!
We had a wonderful time at this spot, and really enjoyed our mezcal margaritas with prickly pear juice added to them. The food was great too! Nice service, surprisingly busy on a Monday afternoon.
Super solid, no complaints. I can understand some of the below individuals experiences but I feel they don't warrant a 1 star review. I've been here a few times and it's always been a grand slam. The Chile Relleno en Crema is absolutely fantastic.. the pork inside cooked to mouth melting perfection. The Skirt steak was seasoned perfectly as well with excellent flavor and cook level. The empanadas were excellent. The floutas were slightly lacking flavor wise, but with how amazing everything else always is, no complaints, in fact someone out there probably like the fresh, simpler, milder taste of the floutas. The Avacado Marguerita is a favorite as well. Service has been great too, but we're nice too, so I think that usually helps ha.
Came here after the movies. Excellent food. It was late, 9:15pm so the atmosphere was quiet, but the staff was very polite and attentive. I am from New Jersey and will definitely come back here next time I'm in town.
Azul always delivers. We had chicken fajitas, queso+chips and queso flamedo. Madison provided very attentive service and Azul's was clean and neat. Super evening.
No fluff Mexican restaurant. Good people fast service get in get out with a belly full. Pozole is great, chips and salsa awesome. Mariachi band on occasions on Friday and the weekends. One of the best value restaurants in Austin,Tx. Margs are also good.
Beef quesadillas, to die for! Salsa is slow burn sweetness.
The ladies at Hill Country Weavers recommended this place to us...Thank you ladies! I had the Burrito with tomatillo sauce and it was delicious. They also have good beans and Spanish rice which com with the meal. The service is fast and friendly...really pleased with our waitress. Food comes out quickly and is very tasty. I should have taken pictures but appetite overrode review so I was halfway through before I thought about pictures. If you are in the neighborhood and hungry stop here 1st.
Do not be fooled by their modest exterior, this is fine interior (and exterior) Mexican food at its best. The frozen margaritas are of the caliber only found in snobbier settings: not too sweet, excellent texture and taste. My waitress, Sidney, has been superb. Helping me decide between the two distinct but equally delicious looking poblanos—and they have Pozole! There is love in this food, and as a seasoned patron of Mexican restaurants across Texas, this hidden gem is absolutely one of the few I consider the finest. …A word about the atmosphere: if you are not in the mood for posing with supermodels at some of the hip, central and overrun upscale Mexican restaurants but want the same quality food/ drink, sans the ‘scene’ you have come to the right place!
Food is ALWAYS excellent. No matter what you order. My only complaint is that in recent months the quantity of beef or chicken fajitas now being served is barely enough to even use the 3 tortillas they give you for the plate. They used to have generous portions. That is no longer the case. I prefer you charge me more and keep your original portion. Maybe get the fajita plate with two tacos instead.
Everything about Azul Tequila is great. During this last year they offered curbside pickup and their food remained delicious and their standards to keep customers safe while providing high quality have been excellent. We have not been into the restaurant in over a year due to the pandemic but are extremely thankful they have survived and we are looking forward to returning soon. Thank you to everyone at this restaurant for their excellent service!
We came to dinner at 5:30 pm on a Saturday and was surprised there was nobody there. The ceviche was so good. All the food came out quickly and hot and very delicious.
One of my favorite places to eat in Austin. Food is always fantastic, drinks are great and service awesome.
Unassumingly excellent little Mexican restaurant. We had the heavy blue margaritas, enchiladas, flautas, and queso all of which I would order again. Inexpensive menu with great portions, and our server was delightful. We will definitely be back!
I had placed an order with them but at the wrong address, the manager really helped me out and had me taken care! The food is fast and good! Atmosphere you can’t beat! Thanks again! Helping people and servicing is up their alley
Very tasty and not grease at all, which is not the norm with Mexican food.
Amazing for marg+chips. The food is great!
Super friendly service, fresh flavorful food, especially sauces and the soups. Delicious drinks too
Awesome Mexican food and great margaritas. Attentive service, chill atmosphere - just enough people that it’s popular but not enough to make it annoying while having a relaxed dinner. They have the hot crispy thin table chips and a unique peppery salsa (complimentary). Best smoky nopales I’ve ever had on the pollo huasteco. Spicy pickled onions on the side. Handmade tortillas. Good enchiladas mole too. Affordable for plenty of food. Will definitely come back.
I absolutely love this place!!! Such a great local gem. The service is always amazing. Kind and quick servers. The food also comes out quick and super fresh. They even do live music sometimes! Prices are great and they have really good Lunch deals -$13.99 for the lunch - great portions and so good. One of my favorite tortilla soups in town, also love the fajitas for dinner
This is a great neighborhood gem. We’ve been coming here for years. They just had a brand new Makeover. Amazing margaritas, amazing staff, and to top it off, they have mariachi bands come on the weekends. These pictures were taken on Halloween so don’t let the emptiness for you. A definite 10 out of 10 recommendation from a local Austinite 🫶🏼🍹
This is a great mexican spot. It feels like a family owned business that cares about the ingredients and the quality of the food. We received great service and were very pleased with both the cost and quality of the meal that we had. While they did have some of the "standard US mexican" fare, they also offer more traditional dishes (I had the Mole Poblano) that are worth checking out.
Ideal Mexican treasure who's kitchen can turn out interior or TexMex with equal aplomb and taste sensation success. Customer service is great and friendly. This place is an unassuming gem in the middle of a strip mall. Go early, go often. We do, and will continue to do so!
If you're looking for a fantastic dining experience in Austin, look no further than Azul Tequila! I recently had the pleasure of visiting, and I was thoroughly impressed. The margaritas were absolutely fantastic – perfectly crafted and incredibly refreshing. They're a must-try! And to top it all off, the mariachi music was amazing, creating such a vibrant and joyful atmosphere. It truly made the evening special. Azul Tequila delivers on all fronts: delicious drinks, great food, and an unforgettable ambiance. I highly recommend it for a fun and lively night out!
This place is absolutely fantastic! The staff is incredibly friendly and attentive, providing exceptional customer service. The frozen margaritas are simply unbelievable, and their happy hour is a must-try. If you’re in town, you must come by for lunch or dinner. The food is phenomenal and the aromas create a delightful atmosphere. Cathy and Deisy are amazing bartenders definitely makes the best drinks at Tequila Azul! I appreciate you Cathy! Thanks for your amazing hospitality and customer service!!
A newly opened place. Our server was nice, polite, and attentive. All the food delicious! Awesome chips and salsa. Enchiladas excellent. I had beef enchiladas and my husband had chicken enchiladas. I had tortilla soup, and was the best I've had. Beans and rice - delicious and flavorful. I had a Mexican martini, and that was made very well. We will definitely go again.
Chicken enchiladas were good. Sorry, no picture, ate it too fast. Salsa was excellent, actually made with tomatoes, good texture, just the right amount of kick to enjoy it. Wife had the "pictured", ground beef with chili con carne enchiladas with a side of tortilla soup. She absolutely loved the soup and the enchiladas.
My new favorite spot. Chips and salsa were very good, good kick to them. I had the prickly pear frozen margarita, it tasted AMAZING and it was strong which I appreciate. For dinner I had the shrimp platter and it was some of the best shrimp I’ve ever had. I will be dreaming of this place.
This is my absolute favorite traditional Mexican restaurant in Austin. The service is phenomenal, food is fantastic and they even have a Mariachi band on Fridays. Chavelo is always there providing me with the best dinner service, and anytime I have a friend come visit I make sure to take them for a delicious lunch or dinner. Highly recommended!
Went here for the first time in probably 10 years yesterday and the food was just as good as I remember it. The wife and I turned to each other and said we need to come back here more often. Can't day enough about the quality interior Mexican you get here. Also the blue margaritas are as good as ever.
Went in for a drink Saturday afternoon. Pretty nice chill environment. The dark colors inside work, just needed a few touch ups to spots on wall and booth seats. Friendly waitress. Would go back again.
Finally a place that makes real margaritas that are well done and thoughtful and pack a punch. The special drink menu here is absolutely stunning, I just wish it wasn't so expensive. For those who don't want to shell out 13 dollars for a drink, the regular margaritas are pretty good, just not as sublime as the special ones.
I would give 4.5 stars if I could. But 5 stars are left for perfect places. Food was great. We ordered different things. I had the spinach and mushroom enchiladas that were covered in a creamy poblano sauce. The spinach was fresh and perfectly cooked. The fiancé had a fish fish in a savory red sauce. Definitely want to learn the recipe. Atmosphere could use some improvement, a guy started to play sax but that wasn’t until later into dinner and we could hear other tables conversation in the silence.
Pretty good food. Mexican, not tex-mex, so a nice change up. Fair prices. Only improvement is that I'm not sure their tortilla chips are made-in house fresh daily. But the salsa was legit spicy, so not fake-mex food. I've gone like 2 or 3 times before and I'll go again.
The fam & I went here after church and we got beef nachos, shrimp enchiladas and the rib eye. We all loved our plates & would get them again. Our waitress was great but the male hostess was unfriendly and rude.
The margaritas and happy hour are great. The pozole is my favorite dish. The food menu is half tex-mex and half mexican. I feel like most of the dishes are satisfying but leave me feeling slightly underwhelmed. My wife and I order different things each time we go, and haven't found many items worth ordering again. The service is okay, it feels kind of like they don't care too much about being perfect. There is something refreshingly reminiscent of old Austin about this type of service though.
Interior of restraunt needs updating, but lack of aesthetically pleasing restraunt interior didn't affect the delicious fajita nachos. Fajitas full of flavor and extremely tender. Should be washed down with an awesome blue margarita. Excellent food and drinks
Azul Tequila has remained pretty consistent over a long stretch of time. Good menu that features both Mexican and Tex-Mex choices. Service is also up to standard. We'll be coming back.
We stopped here after our hike and were pleasantly surprised with our dishes. We ordered carnitas, queso compuesto, flautas, Tejas enchiladas, and The Austin. Everyone was pleased with their food. No pics bcuz we ate so fast we were starving after our 12 mile hike 😊
I've been here a few times and I've had a good experience each time. There's Mexican food all over Austin, but I like going here when for quality with a distinct flavor. It's near a major intersection in South Austin in a very convenient location with plenty of parking. It's a "strip mall" near Target and a dollar store, but don't let that dissuade you. Simple decor and a relative lack of ambiance keeps the focus on the food and your company. My servers have always been attentive and helpful, too. They do have happy hour and a full bar. I would give it 5 stars, but they are gluten-free items are not marked on the menu, which is important to me! But they were able to answer my question so I was able to order appropriate things for my dietary restriction. In short, great food, good service, convenient location and adequate surroundings.
We go here for lunch meetings all the time because a couple of our employees live nearby. The prices are pretty solid with a $8 lunch menu. The items aren't overly large. I will give it five stars but for some reason they don't put sour cream or guacamole on my tacos. Those would add a lot of flavor and make me a happy customer.
This restaurant makes such a delicious chicken tortilla soup. The pazole is yummy too....so are the green chicken enchiladas. The owner was so sweet. I left my credit card at home and she was kind enough to allow us to take our food and pay later. We’ve ordered from this place 3 times in the last 2-3 weeks. Highly recommend...they are fast, affordable, and consistent.
About as Solid as it gets....Located in a strip mall, outside doesn't look like much, but inside is nice and clean...Promptly seated and ordered our go-to chips, Salsa and Queso....Salsa was the bomb, spicy yet extremely addictive...and a spoon full or two in the queso was great addition...Sticking to our guns when we first hit a new joint we both order the enchiladas....Wife with the Beef topped with Chipotle sauce, which was smokey and had a great little kick...I went with chicken (yay--they use the whole bird) topped with Green sauce. Chicken was top notch, moist with great flavor and the sauce was great tasting...We both enjoyed the rice and the re-fried beans hit the spot...Well worth the visit, but likely we will hit the 5th street location and check out the roof top area
Good food, decent ambiance. Couple hiccups on a couple ordered items. Waitress was nice and apologized for the mistakes. Also as nice and as cute as the waitress was she should have tried a bit harder to keep her cleavage under control. I was with family.
We haven't been to Azul in a while. I was so excited to come back today and left disappointed. My favorite dish, Presidio Camerones, was GROSS. I had to send it back. My ceviche was marginally better. The waitress was not engaging and didn't say anything about my gross shrimp. We won't be back.
Had one good experience dining in and one bad taking out. $28 for enchiladas and guacamole for takeout. Chips apparently aren't included with the $9 guac. Had mole poblano/enchilads de mole. Mole is solid. Probably won't return a third time.
Tortilla soup is very good!!! Chips are stale, hot sauce is good. Ribeye dinner was not very good the steak was very bland and didn't seem to be seasoned or marinated - I was very disappointed with the main course as I was hoping for a well rounded dinner. Maybe need to try another dish, but probably won't be coming back here again. :( I would say 2 and half stars but I'll be fair and give 3 because the tortilla soup was bomb
A nice place for a quick meal and a blue margarita. Kind and friendly servers. No happy hour, but a few daily specials that do not match offers at other restaurants in the area. Foods are average, overall not a good value. I shared a sampler appetizer -overcooked- and 2 beverages at $60, including tip. Nice music, but no atmosphere on a weekday evening.
The food was very bland. I ordered the Lone Star relleno, and the chicken stuffed in the pepper had no flavor at all. The salsa that came with the chips was great, though lots of flavor. When the bill came, I got charged an extra $5 to get cheese on it, but the menu says you can choose a sause including cheese but nothing about an extra charge.
Gave us the wrong food, then the waiter proceeded to tell us that they couldn’t change it or else he would have to pay for our food...so basically eat what you got. Charged incorrectly and refused to change even though we showed them the price on the menu. The waiter was high as a kite and didn’t remember that we ordered TWICE. Food was good, manager was bad and waiter was so bad that we thought that we were being punked. A group walked out without getting their food because he was so bad....he even gave them water when there was a water boil notice in effect for Austin. I’m telling you....HIGH AS A KITE!
The manager doesn't like to help the servers. Finnaly had to call her out on it today. I only gave 2 stars because the servers are amazing ! However i can't believe she told me to wait when I asked her for a tea. She pretends she's clean menus and walking back and forth while her servers are overwhelmed . She is the owners sisters so thinks she can get away with it. But I wonder if the owner knows her sister is screwing her business over ?!?! Would like to speak to owner for sure !
I'm very much on the fence with this place. The first time I went I had a decent meal, but wasn't impressed with anything I had here. The margarita was just okay and the food was standard. But then my girlfriend saw that they classify themselves as a "tequila bar" and so she asked the waiter to serve her one of their best brands so she could enjoy good tequila. The waiter came back with a shot of Jose Cuervo and said it was one of their best. Very disappointing. Despite this, we came here with another friend a few weeks later to give it another shot. This time, the whole restaurant smelled like their toilets were backed up and the food was worse than the first time. I personally will never set foot in this place again. It's sad because I had heard such good things about it before coming the first time!
3 slices of chicken on top of enchiladas? Adding 20% gratuity on take out orders without consent? If management would slow down and fix their food properly, check food quality, and ask rather than demand 20% gratuity on takeout orders this review would be better. I appreciate you looking out for your employees at this time, but this is the first and last time for me.
I've been going here since I was a child and never had issues. I am visiting in town and decided to have some dinner n drinks with my pop. The table next to us was INCREDIBLY loud and obnoxious. My dad and I couldn't hear each other talk. We requested to move and they said they would move us outside... but that never happened. We waited 30 minutes after ordering our drinks to ask where they were and the waiter said she would go check and never came back. We left after 45 minutes. Horrible service. What the hell y'all?!
Told our group it would be a 30 minute wait... was about double that. Once we were seated, it took 1.5 hours to get our meals, even though the restaurant was only 1/2 full. They had to ask multiple times for our order and then again for the check and boxes. Food was “meh” and definitely is not worth the horrible service offered here. SO many better Mexican options in Austin.
Just walked in when they opened for a table for one. Someone decided to acknowledge me after a few minutes. The guy walked up with a STRAIGHT face, no greeting or anything. Huffing and puffing. I politely walked right out and took my money elsewhere. You lost a customer! Ridiculous! Do not go here
The food was great but unfortunately the customer service was HORRIBLE!!! I do not recommend for any business lunch's. We had a group of 18 people and the waitress first gave us a hard time about giving us our tickets because she was BUSY!! When we finally got our tickets I had to stand at the register and assist with checking out. They left me standing there for over 5 minutes and our waitress kept complaining that she didn't have time to process our payment because it was lunch rush...HELLO PEOPLE we are customers too!! I approached a couple of other employees and requested help in checking us out and they said our waitress had to be the one to check us out. We arrived at 11:30am and were done by 12:15 and didn't get checked out until 1:15 :( HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. I DO NOT RECOMMEND. We've been to Patsy's off Burleson Road and they get the same group of us in and out in one hour :)
Let me tell you how pointless it is to make reservations there. The hostess is real sweet she took my reservation on the call and was sweet in person but the manager on the other hand is not friendly. He called me on the day of my reservation and was very persistent on us being punctual which is understandable, he was not friendly his tone was rude. So our complete party arrives ahead of time 30 minutes early. We inform the hostess we are all present and so we wait till 7 since that's the time of our reservation to ask the hostess for our table she than states we have to wait 45 minutes for our reservation. The manager completely avoids us. Sorry we are an inconvenience we are paying customers and your in the wrong field of work.We could have gone anywhere else without a reservation and probably be seated sooner.
Do not go here unless you want food poisoning. The customer service was terrible before I even walked in the door. First, I called to make an order for pickup but no one answered. On the second attempt, someone picked up the phone but never responded so all I heard were the sounds of the restaurant. I went inside to make my order. Throughtout most of my communication with employees I received little to no eye contact as they were busy multitasking. I told 2 employees about the phone currently being off the hook and no one responding. Their response was "were busy" and didn't seem to care much. I made my order as the employee made drinks and then repeated my order with their back towards me. It's really difficult to hear someone in a loud restaurant, wearing a mask, and their back towards you. I gave the employee this feedback. His response "it will be ready in 15 minutes". The food tasted okay. Not terrible but definitely not worth the poor customer service. Then it got worse when my stomach became upset and realized it was food poisoning.
We had early dinner today and the place messy for being empty.. as soon as we sat down my son cut his hand on a broken piece of glass. The management had to have known there was an incident at that table cause there was dry blood on seats. Every staff member BUT the manager Eric came to make sure my son was ok... We ate and at the end of meal when paying the check I asked waitress who was the management... she than asked if I would like to talk to him. Which I said no but she let him know I was upset... He knew of the situation didn't bother to check on my son but had tune to talk to talk to customers at the bar.. Pretty pour management when at 20 young girl has to get realize u should check on customer. The fact that management didn't address a situation that could be a potential lawsuit... Hope owners take note cause food was not great but ok and waitress great. The poor management not checking on customer that was injured while whole staff did but him. We paid bill and didn't ask to talk to him since he didn't seem to care. So didn't want nothing for free just very upset he didn't take the time to check on my son but had time to chat at the bar. Again the place was empty so can't say was busy and obviously had another accident cause of glass and dry blood.
First time going to this restaurant. Wasn't to busy when we arrived. Service was on point but the food was not. Its definitely over priced. The cheese dip was definitely velveeta. What we ordered was in the "spicy selection," there was zero spice. I got the tajanas plate with beef fajitas meat. Which was 3 cheese tamales with these tiny beef strips, one each on top of tamales and rice and beans which were portioned. The beef was around 1oz. I have never been to a mexican restaurant that didn't give a fair amount of meat. For $16 bucks I think its overpriced and not good quality food. I would rate half a star in food quality. Service is great.
Extremely disappointing and poorly put together. Not only that it was billed with cheese and vegetables they just dumped sauce on top and hoped for the best. If it's going to be a sauce like this they should put it in a sealed container. The chicken was also dry. Been going to this place for years but it's just not the same anymore. Also while I enjoy the mariachi band, it's too small a venue for a full band it's just so loud you can't speak to anyone. Be careful if you're going on happy hour sometimes "the math is wrong."
Ordered soft tacos as takeout. Bland tacos served with bland chicken and served with no salsas. No fork etc served with the takeout so couldn’t eat the rice or beans. Nasty bathroom / sewer smell upon entering restaurant.
The tacos tasted worse than homemade ones, and the enchilada plate had a strange aftertaste. For the price, it was way too expensive for what you actually get. The food was overall disappointing. The only positive was the salsa. It was actually good. Other than that, I wouldn’t recommend this place if you’re looking for quality Mexican food.
