I ordered "The Hawaiian" which was a ribeye steak that was marinated with a pineapple and soy sauce that came with french fries, although you can change the side from their selection should you wish. Ordered medium rare and it was cooked PERFECTLY. I would highly suggest ordering the corn bread as well. The menu is on the smaller side but they have amazing things to choose from. Went for a birthday so we also had the Oreo ice cream dessert. 10/10 would go again.
First-time guest. Was invited for dinner and took advantage. Outside looks nice, very well manicured and maintained plants and trees. Parking was easy to get in and out of. Inside, the ambiance was nice. Dimly lit, clean and staff was cordial. Gotvsat within 10 minutes. Ordered the artichokes and they were Delicious. Had a few cocktails 🍸 and they were generous with the alcohol. Ordered the pork chops and Hawaiian steak and let mectell you, otvwas nothing short of fantastic! We topped the night off with coffee ☕️ and Deserts which were very good. If you are in the area, give it a go! I recommend.
Great restaurant with fantastic food with good service! Make sure to come early, because otherwise, the wait for your party could range from one hour to two. My recommendations are grilled artichokes, the house salad, the chips with guac and queso, the lamb sandwich, and for dessert, their homemade Oreo ice cream sandwich. You won't regret your visit to Bandera!
I love the beef ribs with cole slaw, corn bread bites and artichoke!! Their ribs are so tender! It really hit the spot! Ahhh yes… I’m so satisfied hahah the bbq sauce is yummy!! the cole slaw isn’t too saucy. It was refreshing! Their chicken is really soft and tender too! Omg the Oreo dessert is sooo GOOOOOD!! If you get dessert, you have to try it! I love the sauce that comes with the artichoke. Gimme the recipe!! Haha The corn bread is nice and hot! Crispy on the outside and moist on the inside! Very flavorful with a hint a sweetness.
We thoroughly enjoyed our lovely Father's Day dinner here. While we did have to wait a few extra minutes for our reservation, we were more than compensated. As incredibly busy as they were, the general manager made sure we did not feel rushed. He continually checked in on us and made our experience quite amazing. Can't wait to go back!! Ps.. the roasted artichoke is insanely delicious.
The service was incredible, they would bring cold glasses to your table to refresh your drinks. We had Tera and she was a delight. The artichoke, beef ribs, and porkchop were very tasty. I would recommend to a friend.
I’ve been to this restaurant more times than I can count. The food is incredible and so are the martinis especially there 007 with four olives and having cornbread makes for a great start to your visit. I haven’t had one bad thing on their menu. The wait staff are super friendly, good looking and fun to interact with. If you are looking for a great dining or drinking experience be sure to stop into this place.
My favorite restaurant in all of Orange County. The food is delicious, amazing and top quality. Very consistent food and service. I love all Hillstone restaurants for their top notch service and consistently.
Everything is good here! Let's start with the menu and the food. There's something for everyone, food and drinks, and it all comes to your table perfect. Next up, the staff. They are polite, professional and they absolutely know you're the customer. I recommend Bandera for after work dinner at the bar. Date night, or dinner with family and friends!!! Bravo
the service here is unbelievable!! i was blown away at how attentive every single person on the staff here was. never needed to ask for refills or anything!! the food was incredible, came here for a birthday celebration and it was so busy for being a weekday!!! 10/10 highly recommend
Blown away by the service here. Our waitress Andy was exceptional. She was extremely attentive and even swapped out our martini glass half way through drinking it for a freshly chilled glass. Nice touch. The food was 10/10 We all felt it was a very warm inside. Some of us were sweating. Wish they could turn some A/C on. Otherwise everything was exceptional and we will be back!
Had an incredible dinner at Bandera in Corona Del Mar! From start to finish, everything was spot-on. I ordered the Hawaiian Rib Eye and took our server Tony’s recommendation to pair it with the Potatoes Colcannon. The steak was cooked to perfection, and the potatoes were creamy, and rich with flavor. My husband had the chicken and rib combo and couldn’t stop raving about it. The ribs were fall-off-the-bone tender, and both the chicken and ribs were packed with flavor. To top it all off, Tony also suggested the Pot de Crème for dessert, and it was the perfect ending smooth, rich, and not overly sweet. Beyond the delicious food, what really elevated the experience was the outstanding service. Tony was attentive, friendly, and clearly knew the menu well. Next time we come back, we’ll definitely be asking to sit in his section again!
Dark Wood lends itself to the jazzy feel of the restaurant. Everything was excellent (macho salad, sweet potato and cheese enchilada with a fried egg on top, cornbread bites, and artichoke to start.). Martinis were $18 but they were good and food prices were in the mid $20s range. The artichokes are as good as ever which has always been very good at Bandera. The cornbread bites for $4 were reasonable and tasty. I would definitely be back.
Ribs and Chicken combo was tasty, more than enough for one person.
Servers here are Top notch! The service was almost better than the food. But food was excellent. Thank you
Probably the best Salmon I’ve ever had, and the chicken is pretty tasty as well. Okay the chicken is more then just tasty, it’s amazing. Service was good and the ambiance in this place had me thinking I was in a cabin in the woods. This place fills up fast so make a reservation or prepare to wait for a seat at the bar. Very Highly Recommended
We have been talking about going here for years but never had an opportunity. Well we have most definitely been missing out. This restaurant has a small menu but what they do have was amazing. This has actually been one of the few times that we have loved everything we ordered. The service staff was super friendly. Every bite was perfect, and for upscale restaurants the price was totally reasonable. As a couple of foodies my wife and I come from totally different backgrounds and rarely have the same tastes. But both of us loved everything we ordered. Bandera definitely shows that out of the two approaches restaurants take, perfecting a smaller menu wins out over having a wide range of choices. Thank you for a wonderful dinner!
Believe the Hype! Great ambiance, outstanding service, and amazing food. This is a great place to be seen...if you sit at the bar or not be seen if you find a spot in a romantic corner. I only had time for the appetizers, but that felt like a meal to me. Great attention to detail. They create your own little personal dining area with an small table cloth. The salad I had was extremely fresh, and the salmon was perfectly cooked... and like I said, that was just appetizers. I will return for the full treatment for sure...to be continued 😀 😎
Our Home Away from Home – Thank You, Ben and the Banderas Newport Beach Team We travel constantly and are longtime fans of Hillstone restaurants—we make a point to seek them out wherever we go. But nothing compares to the experience we have at Banderas in Newport Beach, and that is entirely because of Ben and his extraordinary team. From day one, Ben has made us feel like family. His attention to detail, thoughtful questions, and the way he remembers the little things about our lives make every visit feel personal and warm. No matter what’s going on in the restaurant, Ben remains calm, gracious, and present. He’s a true professional, but beyond that, he leads with a kind of care and heart that’s rare to find. While our home was under renovation for nearly a year, we found ourselves visiting Banderas often—not just for the consistently phenomenal food and flawless service, but because it became our anchor, our constant. A place that felt comforting and familiar, even when everything else felt upside down. Now that our renovation is complete and we’re back to cooking at home, we still find ourselves coming in all the time. Because being greeted and cared for by Ben and his team brings us a deep sense of home—a place to land, to unwind after a long week, and to feel truly welcomed. We’ve been to Hillstones across the country, but there’s simply nothing like Banderas Newport. Ben has created something incredibly special here, and we are endlessly grateful for the heart, consistency, and warmth that he and his team bring to every experience.
The food was amazing! The ribs and chicken are both very tender and smoky, but the french dip was my favorite!! It melts in your mouth! I also enjoyed the chips and queso guacamole as the appetizer. I love the ambiance of the restaurant, a great spot to take your parents out for dinner in my opinion 😊

We’ve been dining at Banderas in Corona del Mar for many years, and our kids truly grew up coming here. One of our most recent visits reminded us why this place holds such a special place in our hearts — our youngest was with us, and the staff was incredibly accommodating and thoughtful, bringing avocado and fresh fruit without hesitation. Now that our kids are teenagers, Banderas is still one of their favorite places to dine and one of their favorite memories. It’s rare to find a restaurant that delivers consistently great food, warm service, and a family-friendly atmosphere over so many years. We always look forward to coming back.
We love Bandera! When there was one in Chicago we would go often and miss it a ton and while visiting California, we drove over an hour just to experience it again. We miss the legendary lamb sandwich that we used to get, yet the French dip and chicken sandwich did not disappoint. The Macho salad is a classic and so glad that and the Oreo desert were still on the menu. Such a great quality meal. And the ambience is elevated yet not pretentious. Hope they keep this concept! And our server, Hannah was outstanding with amazing down to earth hospitality! Anytime we are in the area we will be back and hope to visit similar concepts.
I loved my experience here! My server, Grace, and my bartender, Briana, were amazing! They were super attentive and went above and beyond to make sure I enjoyed my time in the restaurant. From the moment I walked in, I felt welcomed. We even got complimentary starters from Cal because we waited a bit longer than our scheduled reservation. Which by the way it didn’t feel like it because we stood at the bar and the atmosphere was so great. Thank you so much Bandera for such a wonderful experience!

Great menu, nice atmosphere. Loved the shirley temple with the Mexican (cane sugar) Sprite. The French Dip, Crispy Chicken Sandwich and anything with their rotisserie chicken (including the Macho Salad) is awesome. Only reason it's not five stars is despite the lovely server, service was a bit slow.
Hump day dinner at Bandera Restaurant, Corona Del Mar. Grilled Artichokes limited availability! Bandera grills only heirloom artichokes from Castroville, California. These unique plants yield artichokes of superior flavor and meatiness. They serve them whenever available. Famous French Dip Sandwich thinly sliced prime rib on a toasted French roll Glass of Mi Sueno El Llano Cabernet
Good food, but not a grand slam. The flavor is good but also not phenomenal. The menu selection is somewhat limited. Service was excellent and atmosphere was very nice. Consider adding hickory smoke to the rotisserie chicken and ribs, would kick it up 10 notches. Summary: With more options and flavor tweaks …solid 5/5…almost there but not quite.
The only issue is they are closed for lunch which makes NO sense at all. We need more lunch places and there would be a ton of business lunches there, afternoon cocktails. Please! Open!
I used to drive by Bandera in Corona Del Mar every day on my way to work, always curious about the buzz and lively atmosphere. One day, I finally decided to stop in, and I’m so glad I did. Since that first visit, it’s become a regular spot for me. The food here is consistently excellent. I highly recommend starting with their appetizers, especially the Oreo dessert and banana pie, both of which are indulgent and delicious. One standout dish for me is their grilled artichoke, seasoned to perfection and incredibly flavorful. And don’t skip the cornbread, it’s rich, slightly sweet, and a must-try. My only constructive feedback is about the parking situation. After 6pm, especially during peak dinner hours, it can be a bit of a challenge to find a spot nearby. It’s worth planning ahead or considering a rideshare if you’re coming in the evening. Overall, Bandera offers a great dining experience, and I’ll definitely keep coming back.
I’d give this place an average of four stars. Many many years ago, I embarked on the macho salad. It was so good.!! so good that I thought about it for years and look forward to the day I went back. The other day, I finally went back and of course, ordered the macho salad. It was definitely not the same as I remember- portion was much smaller flavor was also lacking so that was disappointing. We also ordered the combo plate with the ribs and ribs were the best fries were great . Best part of the meal was the kale salad.

We’ve been coming to Bandera in Corona del Mar for years, and I have to say — I really miss the old Bandera. Tonight my husband and I went for dinner, and unfortunately it just wasn’t the experience we’re used to. I ordered the margarita that typically has egg white shaken in, giving it that beautiful frothy, creamy finish on top. Twice it came out without that signature texture — no froth, no creaminess — just flat. It may seem like a small detail, but it’s part of what made that drink special. We decided to split the prime rib dip, ordered medium well. Instead of sliced prime rib, the sandwich was filled with crumbles of meat. Every time we dipped it into the au jus, the meat fell right out, making it messy and disappointing. It lacked the quality and presentation we’ve come to expect. The only standout tonight were the French fries — they were hot and delicious. We’ve always loved Bandera, which is why this was so disappointing. I’m hoping this was just an off night, but it definitely didn’t feel like the Bandera we used to enjoy
We called 4 hours ahead and they told us we did not need to make a reservation. "We will get your right in." However, when we got there. Not one, not two, but three groups the same size as ours that arrived after us, by a good 20mins, were seated before us. What's up with that? Am I wrong to be bothered by that? I guess they were smart and insisted on a reservation? Really not happy with all the info from the host, seems inconsistent and not very well organized from when we first called telling us we'd be seated right away to arriving and waiting 50mins. It was a Wed night for a group of 4. When we arrived we were the only ones in the waiting area. I'm still so confused. I wasn't even even rude to the host even though I really wanted to be after 30mins of sitting. 😆 Hostess seating us asked my guest I was taking to dinner to remove their hat. What?! You guys are not that fancy....it's like a bar with a rotisserie pit and exposed kitchen. So just be aware of that gem. There was another table with some adult dressed as a cheerleader but my buddies hat was against policy?🤷 The food: My ribeye was like chewing rubber. The filet my wife got was melt in your mouth and great though. Cornbread was worth it but nothing to write home about. The banana pie was underwhelming. Not very sweet at all. Bonus ⭐ our server was fantastic. So you should thank her. Because of the wait and weird policy's of this place I would not recommend it. Can't imagine what a zoo it would be on a weekend. Food was way over priced, per the quality, in my opinion.
Grew up in So Cal so we come here a couple times a year to do our favorites food tour. They closed our Banderas in Scottsdale so this is our only option for chicken and banana cream pie. Last night we were told they are taking a break from the banana cream pie. Unfortunate for sure and you might want to remove it from the online menu. I'm taking a break from Banderas but I am afraid they are going to turn this into a Houstons. They have added the pineapple marinated steak as well as the key lime pie. Both on the Houston menu. Not a fan of key lime and heard a few folks trying to order the banana cream pie....all were dissapointed. It's the last Banderas so closing this one is probably in the works. Would love to get the pie recipe since it may be gone forever. Bye Banderas!

This review would only pertain the parties of Five or more. They do state when you make your reservation that you can only book for four people although their booths will easily accommodate five, but they will not accommodate. The restaurant has three booths that are designated for larger parties. I made a reservation for my friends birthday a month in advance called and spoke to Ben the manager and he said that they could accommodate that there may be an additional wait time but to arrive early in order to be seated closer to our reservation time. We arrived at 7 PM for a 7:30 reservation and proceeded to wait for just shy of an hour and a half. Our booth was so large that we could’ve had two or three additional guests. My main disappointment is that when we arrived, and I shared with the hostess that we were a party larger than four and that I had called ahead and spoke to Ben. She was less than welcoming. It’s a very busy restaurant and in high demand and she knew it and was going to reflect that in her attitude. The restaurant has plenty of booths that would accommodate five ladies and they will not open those to guess parties larger than four because that is against their policy. At the end of the day, our waitress was incredible and the food was delicious, but the initial experience with the unwelcoming, hostess and misinformation from Ben left us disappointed. An hour and a half wait is longer than a little bit of a wait after your reservation time in my book. So unless you’re a party of four, I would definitely look elsewhere or plan on a long wait.
Have gone to Bandera since the early 2000's, starting when the restaurant had a location in Scottsdale. Made reservations on a Wednesday. A 20 plus minute wait after the reservation before we were seated. Then the restaurant was out of signature rotisserie chicken and pork chop before 8 pm. Wait staff was excellent. My 4th choice of main course, as they were out of 3 other menu items, was way below my expectation. The beef ribs were more like burnt ends. Artichoke was delicious as usual. Still very disappointing with so many choices in the area. All atmosphere and make-up service for lack of quality.

We have been going to this restaurant for the last 10 years. We have never been turned away because my son was wearing SLIDES . Give me a break when has CDM become so concerned about rubber shoes. We live at the beach. That’s all anybody wears . I am shocked that they can get away with it.
Will never go back. Went in there with my family and said it would be a three hour wait only when they saw my daughter. I called to ask how long the wait would be and they said 1 1/2 hours to 2. Ridiculous. They are completely discriminatory to any kind of kids.
I came here for what I thought would be a nice dinner with my wife, but it ended up being really uncomfortable. I had already paid for my drinks at the bar, and when I got to my table, my server double-checked everything and called over a manager to fix the bill. The manager, Sarah, came over and made me feel like I was lying about paying. It was awkward and honestly kind of embarrassing. I wasn’t going to say anything, but after talking to friends who’ve had similar experiences here, it seems like the management just isn’t very friendly or welcoming.
Honestly, this is not a place to bring your kids. If children aren’t welcome, then just say so and specify age restrictions—don’t make families feel uncomfortable after they arrive. I also felt completely disrespected and discriminated against. I asked for a very basic accommodation—vegetables on the side—and was told no. I asked for two chicken breasts to be served on two separate plates (for sharing), and again, they refused. It felt like they just didn’t care at all about customer service or being accommodating. Really disappointing experience overall.
Website was down. Doesn’t accept take out orders by phone. We drove all the way over and now they’re saying they don’t do steaks to go. What in the world is going on with this restaurant. You could’ve told us that before we drove 25 minutes. Beyond frustrated. Every step and interaction was a disappointment.
Darren the general manager is completely unprofessional. He kicked us out because my child was “not behaving .” This is after we waited two hours for table. Overrated place.
Very politely asked if they could accommodate a party up to five for our family and very rudely was told no. I don’t think I’ve ever left a 1-star review until now. We won’t be back. There are so many other great options where they’re kind and appreciate your patronage. Find another restaurant.
