This restaurant was recommended to me by a coworker and was my first try of Chicago style pizza. I ordered the 9" stuffed pizza with the 'carnivore' toppings. The pizza can comfortably feed 2 people. They included plenty of toppings on the pizza and I thought the selection of meats in the carnivore was a good choice. The service was excellent, they kept me updated on how long my pizza would take and kept my drink full.
This Chicago-style pizza place delivers an authentic and unforgettable deep-dish experience. The pizza itself is a masterpiece: the cheese is indeed layered beneath the sauce, creating a unique and delicious flavor profile. The crust is perfectly flaky and packed with flavor, reminiscent of a delicate pastry. Beyond the pizza, the maple bourbon wings are a must-try, offering a delightful combination of sweet and savory flavors. With TVs playing sports throughout the restaurant, the wait time for this freshly-made pizza flies by. Overall, this establishment is a must-visit for any deep-dish pizza enthusiast. Five stars!
Finally made it out to Rance’s Pizza in Costa Mesa after seeing a TikTok about their Chicago style deep dish, and man… it did not disappoint. Being born and raised in OC, I’ve always wanted to try a legit deep dish and this hit the spot big time. The wait was about 45 to 55 minutes since they make each pizza by hand and fresh to order, which caught us off guard at first, but once we took that first bite it all made sense. We got the Carnivore and added jalapenos and it was unreal. Crust was flaky and crunchy, cheese was insanely melty like out of a food video, and the sauce had that perfect combo of oregano, garlic, and just enough spice. The bacon really sealed the deal. I was genuinely so happy with my order. The staff inside were super sweet and helpful too when we were choosing what to get. My wife went with the gluten free crust and it was actually really good, crunchy and packed with garlic flavor. Our friends got the house special and were just as impressed. But I gotta talk about the wings… those bourbon maple bacon wings were next level. Sweet, salty, crispy, and just disappeared within minutes. Honestly one of the best wing flavors I’ve had in a while. This place is a must go if you’re in Orange County. Absolute staple and definitely lived up to the hype.
The food was really good had a lot of flavor a lot of the pizza and deep dish was so good and filling highly recommend you check this place out also I liked my beer and customer service was great and outstanding
I’ve never tried a deep dish pizza and I guess I still haven’t! I tried the classic deep dish but it was the pan style so I hear that’s not the official deep dish style. But regardless it was so dang good. It still seemed like it had that deep dish feeling behind it, and we also tried some wings and everything came out in a timely manner. I also got to try an IPA but I only recognized the soda jerk machine for the beer, it wasn’t on the menu and the waitress apologized for leaving it off our selection but hey at least these peepers work and I was able to order a delicious voodoo ranger beer that just caught my eye. ;)
I literally thought that deep dish pizza was a gimmick. But my mother-in-law took me here for a surprise, and I absolutely love every bite. The salad was a great starter, large, and very flavorful then the flat pizza, which was for later, was very good, but I only had one slice, finally the deep dish pan pizza, it was absolutely phenomenal. I cannot rave on how good this pizza was. This is very cliché, but this was the best pizza I’ve ever had. The crust was so soft and delicious, and it was more like a pie crust, very flaky rather than a traditional pizza crust.
If you're craving some authentic Chicago deep dish pizza, this is as close as you'll get in California. Now, it's not exactly the same, but hey, we can't teleport the whole city here, can we? So, here's my recommendation: order the pizza and then try their wings. Trust me, they are the bomb! The sauce on those wings is finger-lickin' good. Just be careful not to let your girlfriend catch you licking them, unless you want to explain yourself later. Now, fair warning, if you're in a hurry, getting a Chicago-style pizza here might take around 40 minutes. It's probably best to order takeout if you're on a time crunch. There's usually a line during peak hours and on weekends. But fear not, they have a great selection of beers on tap and a few TVs to help pass the time while you wait. Oh, and let me debunk what the other reviewers say about the service. In my experience, the service here rocks! Our waitress was on top of everything, from refilling our drinks to cleaning our table. Top-notch service, I tell ya! Trust me, it's worth the wait.
Best Chicago pizza in OC/LA hands down! This spot's got you covered with their epic Chicago-style pizza that's seriously next level. The crust is flaky, buttery, and perfectly crispy, and the tangy tomato sauce and toppings are fire. And, the cheese – is so good!! It's melty, gooey, and stretches for days, making every bite a cheese lover's dream. The vibes are chill, the service is on point, and you'll leave seriously satisfied. If you're all about that legit Chicago-style pizza in Orange County, this spot is a must-visit.
Amazing wings, stuffed Chicago style pizza, and customer service. I am a regular here at this Costa Mesa establishment and I always send friends and family over. Try the maple bacon wings!! For the pizza the stuffed carnivore is really yummy. I always add jalapeños and pineapple!
Small hidden gem located in Costa Mesa! We came from Moreno Valley, Ca. and it was definitely worth the drive! We got the kiddos a classic thin crust with pepperonis and cheese and it had a hearty amount of toppings in every slice! As for the hubby and I we started with a chicken and pesto panini to share, it was very flavorful and nicely toasted! We went with a Carnivore pan pie pizza and added bell peppers and onions. EVERY bite had a lot of a perfect layer of each topping! It was so fulfilling, we ended up only eating one slice of it! We will definitely be back again!!
Finally after like 10 years we make it here to try out the deep dish pizza! We tried the spinach artichoke dip first, very good!! We decided on the deep dish versus pan etc because that was the point lol....just know there are options. Keep in mind these take a good 30-40 minutes to bake but trust me, you won't be disappointed!! Flavors were on point! We went with a medium pepperoni, bell peppers, onions and sausage! I'd say most people will have one slice, at the most two! Its like a whole meal in a slice! Give this place a shot, if you like pizza or Italian food, im sure you'll like this place.
I finally found my favorite deep- dish pie outside of Chicago. Get the "stuffed" "house special" (see menu). Each slice is a meal! Appetizer was garlic cheese bread with red dipping sauce. Sodas served in real glasses for a good, fancier touch. Service was good. **Order your pizza 45 minutes before you go!! It takes a long time to cook.**
Oh my god it was so good, I’ve never had Chicago pizza before so I didn’t know what to expect, but I was so pleasantly surprised. The wings were SO good I had to order them twice, I shared the small pizza with one person and it’s small diameter wise but it is THICK in the best way. I definitely r commend this place. So so good and valid
We have been there several times and have never been disappointed. Yes they can be pricey but their prices are very comparable to other deep dish pizzerias in the OC. One thing I have learned about deep dish pizza is they take almost an hour to prepare and cook. I most always order on the phone earlier in the day and tell them when I we will be there. Cuts down the waiting time considerably. Hope this helps!
This is the closest to “authentic” Chicago pizza I’ve had in Southern California! We now celebrate family holidays with Rance’s. Service is always nice and accommodating, they even helped us carry items out to the car. Pizza, wings and salads are fantastic. It’s traditional Chicago deep dish - so be sure to know it’s about 40-50 minutes for it to cook… but it is SO worth the wait!
We ordered deep dish pizza which would take longer to make so we planned on waiting 45-60 min. Had a delicious dinner salad while waiting. It got to be an hour and pizza yet. They had made it incorrectly, and we had to be somewhere. So the nice waitress (Natalie) offered us free appetizers and a large pizza on the house instead of a medium size tjat we had ordered. What good public relations and treatment of their customers. I appreciate their wanting to make customer happy and satisfied. Ended up taking pizza to Go and made it to our event 5 minutes early
Fantastic! As a native Chicagoan with twenty years in the pizza business I can verify this is the real deal. I had a pan spinach and sausage. Fresh spinach and real pulled sausage pieces. I only wish I had come and sat down because as delicious as this was delivered, I bet it would have been even better fresh out of the oven. Kudos Rance's! If I'm ever in the area again I'll be back!
The Stuffed Deep Dish Pepperoni pizza was delicious! There's a bit of a wait while your pizza is hand crafted; this is not fast food. Call in in advance if you are short on time. As for appetizers the artichoke dip is so good very savory and filled with garlic and herbs. The little breads were perfect!
Super good pizza Derek is awesome! If you like pizza this place is a 10/10!
Love these deep dish pizzas 🍕. It's always best to call in your order ahead of time. These pizzas take 45 minutes to an hour to bake.
GREAT food, great people, location is clean and nice but small, very different vibe from the other Rance's location I've been to.
We came from San Diego, stayed the night in Irvine just to try this pizza lol. It did not disappoint. All the wings are tasty, the bacon Bourbon wings are worth going back for in a couple of months. Wings didn't even make it in a pic! We were munched them all away before we even thought to take a pic.
So my family is from Chicago and we grew up visiting every year until I finally moved there myself. My wife hates the cold so we're back here in California. This pizza is the best substitute I've ever had and better than a lot of joints in Chicago. I will state that this crust is the best crust I have ever had in my life though. It's phenomenal!
Awesome True deep dish Chicago Style Pizza! Take a slice cut it in half you've got lunch AND dinner hahaaa
We were craving deep-dish style pizza and are so glad we found this place! We each ordered a 9-inch personal pizza and had plenty to eat, with leftovers. Derek was extremely welcoming and attentive! He made sure we knew about the wait to make a custom pizza which was about 45 minutes. We had the meatball appetizer and enjoyed the atmosphere with sports playing on the TVs until our food arrived. All the food was delicious, and exactly what we were craving! I definitely recommend this for anyone who enjoys deep-dish pizza!
Best wings around, the sauce is unmatched and their ranch is one of a kind. Great deep dish pizza and friendly environment. They veterans discounts and are in a good location with alot around. Must give their buffalo wings a go. It's unlike anything you've tasted. Fall off the bone. You won't be disappointed.
We live in Los Angeles now, and even thought there are Long Beach and USC locations, I'd rather come back to the mothership location, Costa Mesa. The pizza here never fails. It's just perfection. Do yourself a favor and get a full pue even if you're not gonna get it all right now. Keep some for later.
I came into Rances for first time with my coworkers, we ordered the bruschetta, bourbon wings, deep dish, and flat pizza. Everything was exceptional. The flavor was amazing and definitely noticed all the fresh ingredients. Our server Derrik was amazing and attentive. We will definitely be coming back to try everything else we didn't get a chance to try.
This totally hit the spot for my craving of true Chicago Style pizza! Brought back memories of my many trips to Chicago so long ago. Such friendly service too, we ordered a pizza for take out when driving. They had tables available when we got there so we stayed and ate in. So accommodating, we really appreciated it!
Excellent spot for authentic Chicago style pizza. I love how they have an option to customize the pan pizzas, which is what we did. But the Peanut Butter Milk Stout I had….OH MY GOSH, it’s freaking amazing!!! It tasted like a peanut butter milkshake 😋. Our little ones had the cheese thin crust which they obliterated. Our waitress was super and constantly checked on us. Highly recommend this amazing place!
Went here recently for the first time with a friend. We went for lunch on a Sunday afternoon and enjoyed the small pan pizza with canadian bacon, mushrooms and pineapple. We both agreed it was some of the best pizza we have ever tasted! We also each had a caesar salad and soft drink (free refills). The tab with tax and no tip came to just under $39.
Ordered takeout from Rance’s Chicago Pizza and loved it!! I ordered the classic cheese deep dish. I feel like a simple pie is the best way to see if a place is legit! The top part of this pizza is definitely the crust! The crust is buttery, thick, and rich. The sauce is also on point at Rance’s. I know there isn’t a whole lot of deep dish spots in OC, but this one should be near the top of the list!
It’s always nice to find a good deep dish and thin crust outside of Chicago. These guys have nailed it. I even like that they used crushed tomatoes instead of sauce on the deep like you’re supposed to. They also had a super friendly lady behind the counter. Decent draft beer selection on top it. Well worth the quick drive from Disneyland.
One of kind pizza! At least for Costa Mesa. Deep dish Chicago style is one you must experience. Thick but almost croissant like crust piled high with toppings. Tomato sauce was tangy and delicious. Full of meet and cheese. The 14" was enough to feed 5 people. One slice pretty much filled most of us up.
Yes, this place deserves all of the high reviews. We ordered the Thai wings, meatballs with marinara, tavern pizza, and stuffed pizza. Everything was amazing! And the service-- Liz was absolutely lovely! She made sure our drinks were filled and that we had everything we needed during our hour meal. The place was buzzing the entire time we were there. Rightfully so! So yes, this is a GREAT place to visit and support. Well done, Rance's!
Best artichoke dip in Orange County. Excellent selection of craft beers on tap. The pan pizza is great. However the stuffed pizza uses a different dough which is too flaky. Almost like it's a croissant dough or something. If you want real stuffed Chicago pizza, then go to Tony's Little Italy in Placentia!
By far the closest thing you can get to chicago-style pizza in Southern California not just Los Angeles not just Orange county but the entire Southern California. The crust is perfectly buttery the sauce is 🍅 and timing in the right consist ency every layer is exactly as it should be to spec. Definitely get a mushroom and spinach and if you're feeling extra just add garlic.
This is literally the best pizza I have had in California...which is a big claim I don't make lightly. The crust, the tomoatoes...I have literally ordered this on door dash numerous times and I cant stop...but I am ok with this "addiction" lol Great stuff and props to the Rance kitchen and team!
Great service and pizza! Best I've had so far outside of Chicago! Thank you so much! Also wanted to commend your staff. A guest came in while my son and I were dining in. He seemed in a hurry and stated he wanted a pizza, then got upset and vocal about it when he was told how long a pizza would take (people who know Chi Style pizza, know how long it takes...he apparently didn't). The guest was expecting something faster and was upset. But, your staff handled it amazingly. The same server that was helping my son and I was calm, and kind, and tried her best to be helpful to the upset guest. The guest ended up leaving because he said he had to be somewhere for a meeting in a short time. Thank you for the great food and service! We will be back again and again.
I’m rating these guys 5 stars about 5 minutes into my first visit, before I’ve received my pizza. They are a great crew: positive, helpful, and generous. The beer (805) is cold and and the salad is incredibly fresh and delicious. Cooper, Derek, Marlene, Jim, Dino, and Alex all rock. Thank you. Can’t wait to taste the pizza but it doesn’t matter - already worth the visit. UPDATE: The pizza (deep dish house special) is delicious. The best pizza currently available in the greater Los Angeles area. Dough Box was its equal but is no longer in business. I wish I could dial up the star knob to 11. To the owner - I appreciate what you’ve created. Make sure you give this crew a lot of love, because they represent your product beautifully. Without them, I wouldn’t have tasted your great pizza.
One of the best places in Orange County for Chicago deep dish style pizza. All those folks who criticize the thought of deep dish pizza have clearly never tried it as it’s incredible delicious coming from someone like myself who was a skeptic. Highly recommend the stuffed deep deep dish carnivore as the seasoned meats pairs perfectly with the red sauce, cheese, & in the incredibly buttery crust. As a great sign of respect to this place, I would describe that pizza as a michelin star version of a pepperoni pizza hot pocket.
The perfect pizza for a perfect birthday! My first Chicago deep dish, and I’m in love! I wanted a day of firsts for my 57th birthday, so for dinner I chose authentic “pie-style” pizza. I found it at Rance’s! The staff was friendly, the pizza was “Triple D” (our food rating system at home to praise mom’s cooking for her BEST dinners, when it’s as close to perfection as humanly possible, I use the words “delicious, delightful, and delectable”. What more can I say? Perfection is hard to beat). I swear, it was like I ordered extra sauce and extra cheese!!! Fantastic leftovers too! Reheating the pizza the next day was heavenly! I filled up on two pieces. Twice. I’d recommend Rance’s to anyone’s – it’s a really nice small business, the kind we all need to support in today’s economy.
Order from Rances pizza about 4 times a year. Sadly, my husband doesn’t like it so I do order it when he’s not present. Chicago deep dish / pizza pies are such a great twist on the pizza. The pies are very hearty so splitting a small with another person with a side of wings is perfect amount of food for a pizza night.
I'm from Chicago and it's nice to find Chicago style deep dish pizza in the OC. The toppings are high quality and the pizza is fantastic. The place can get busy but the service is quick and friendly - keep in mind that it takes time to bake a deep dish pizza. The place is small and noisy, and there are TV screens showing sports events. If you want to kick back, watch the game, and have some pizza and beer, then this place is fine. If you want quiet dining, then pick up the food and dine at home or elsewhere.
I came to try this place for the first time and it didn’t disappoint. Although you have to wait 40-45 minutes for your pizza to be ready (except for the thin crust pizza that is ready sooner), it is worth the wait. You can choose from any of their style pizzas or customize your own. The pizza was really good and the crust was so crispy, it had a really good flavor. The bbq wings were good too.
First time here today and it was great! Never thought I'd be able to find deep dish outside of Chicago, but here we are! The crust was soooo delicious, and honestly isn't that the best part of the pizza anyway? The rest of it was really good too. Place was pretty busy for a Saturday afternoon but still, everything came out perfectly. Go here and be happy you did!
Chicago Style pizza done right- and in California!?!!!! I continue to search for the elusive Deep Dish that is worthy of the caloric intake and bravo to Rance's for achieving greatness in this regard. They offer 3 styles of crust - we tried the Pan and the Tavern cut and both were on point. The Tavern is good to enjoy as a pizza appetizer while waiting for the main event deep dish that takes 45+ minutes made to order. The tavern has a nice crisp crackery crust and the cheese and toppings are fresh. We prefer the pan style over the stuffed as the pan has the buttery crust which I love and crave. The pan did not disappoint and I purposely fasted that day so I could feast (warning - you may get super full - so plan accordingly). They have other appetizers but we didn't bother even consisting. Also a nice rotating craft beer menu to boot. Parking is street parking and can be a little competitive. I'll be back.
Best deep dish pizza, I've ever tried! It takes about 40 minutes for them to bring your pizza out, but definitely worth the wait... There's 3 different sizes to choose from, but a medium will suffice for two people. The deep dish has so much cheese and tomato sauce, that it will fill you up! And the tomato sauce, had very good mix of flavors. The crust is nicely toasted and it's not overwhelming thick. It isn't a pretty big place, so it gets crowded fast. They also have these Thai peanut sauce chicken wings, that are amazingly flavorful 🙌 All in all, my boyfriend and I, ended up getting the six piece Thai sauce wings, and then got the bigger pizza, for around $50. Definitely recommend this place.
This is my new go-to pizza spot! The thin and crispy pizza is so good. I also love the square cut, it reminds me of Donatos. The wings are also fantastic. My favorite is the spicy Thai, but all three flavors are great. I do pick up and the employees are quick and friendly. It does take them time to make the pizza, usually 45-50 minutes. So plan accordingly. I can't recommend this place enough!
Food: Delicious!! Crust was buttery and flakey! Also tons of cheese and very fresh and gooey! Portions are good size and prices are fair! Recommend for a deep dish pizza! The deep dish was better than stuffed imo. Service: Server was friendly and attentive. Good with refills and being available. Atmosphere: Not the best ambiance. More of a take out location. Could improve inside dining experience but other than that no complaints.
Absolutely delicious, and the only place nearby I trust for Chicago-style deep dish. They also have Take&Bake options if you want something to have ready for later (great choice on a game-day weekend to have one of these ready to fire up in the oven) Order ahead, because deep dish takes time to bake. If picking up to go, make sure you keep it flat so everything stays set.
Great deep dish pizza. We had the stuffed crust pizza. It was perfect. What was so good about it? Well, first of all, the sauce had good chunks of tomato. Second, the pizza wasn't salty. Third, the crust was super tasty. Fourth, the cheese was great. The only down side is that it takes a long time for the pizza to come out. I think it's because they make the pizza fresh. It takes 45 mins to close to an hour.
This restaurant definitely has the best Chicago style deep dish pizza. Don’t forget to try their Rance’s famous wings with the Bourbon Maple Bacon sauce… you won’t regret it! Their staffs are very friendly and the store is very clean (they have hand sanitizer on each table). Will come back!
First time visiting this location in Costa Mesa. Great atmosphere, the location was clean and the employees were outstanding. Awesome customer service and great knowledge of the items they are selling. As a New Yorker I'm not normally a Chicago style pizza fan. This is the place to go in Orange County if you want a Chicago style pan pizza. The pizzas take up to 45 minutes so it might be better to order ahead if not enjoy their large selection of beers/wine, Our food was delivered piping hot and again the customer service was outstanding. You can get a crushed tomato topping or a regular pizza sauce topping which I might suggest. Overall this is a great place to eat and I highly recommend it.
This is more like a pizza to go place than a sit and enjoy. Their pizza is very good with both deep dish as well as thin crust. Taste very fresh and properly baked. The staff member, Liz, when I was there what's very much on the ball. Knew the menu well, made good suggestions, and checked up on us just when we were ready. The pizzas we're assembled and baked so plan on waiting like half an hour after ordering.
Was at the shopping center adjacent to Rances and instead of sitting in traffic, thought, “I like pizza” - Looked at a recent review, saw the stuffed carnivore, saw the bad review and said let’s go. While here I was recommended to get the bourbon bacon wings. Perhaps I’m biased because I’m a foodie, but the wings were absolutely delicious, and the pizza was awesome. I had a plate of wings and got one slice of pizza down, saving the rest for later. Would 100 percent recommend. I don’t leave many reviews, so take this as it is. Godspeed.
Came here after a big tourney HUNGRY! I definitely left stuffed! We had 2 stuffed pizzas 1 medium and 1 large and numerous appetizers. That seemed about enough to feed 6 people! I've had pizza from the popular Chicago brand: Giordano's and definitely thought this was comparable! If you have a craving for some deep dish pizza this is the place to go!
I lived in Chicago for a while and ate a lot of stuffed pizza there. This rendition is close, but not 100% the same. Namely the crust has a slightly different composition and the tomatoes are much bigger than I ever experienced in Chi Town. Also no giardinera?!?!? That’s the best pizza topping! It still hit the spot during my time of need and I will definitely be back with my own jar of hot giardinera.
Let me start by prefacing my review with the fact that I'm from Chicago and I have high standards when it comes to pizza. This place is pretty good. It's no Lou Malnati's or Pequod's. The crust is a little too flaky for me. But the tomatoes are flavorful and rich, the cheese gooey, and the toppings fresh. Not a bad try for a west coast deep dish joint! Update 1/14/17: Tried Rance's again. The pan pizza is much better than the stuffed pizza (we had pan before and stuffed this time and were disappointed in the stuffed. Way too flaky...like a croissant...not like Chicago at all!). But the artichoke dip is to die for. I mean, this appetizer is quite possibly the best appetizer I've had in my life. Diced artichoke hearts, tiny nuggets of jalapeno and bacon, and finished off with mozzarella cheese...you pile it up on a thin slice of french bread...heavenly! Just trust me on this, and trust me to stay away from the stuffed crust.
A friend recommended this spot as their “favorite pizza ever”. With such high praise, I couldn't wait to try it. There is a lengthy wait though. It says right on the menu that the pizza takes 45 minutes, and the staff makes sure that you know this as well. In the meantime, I ordered some buffalo wings. They were very tasty, but they were overpriced. I think they were $17 or $18 bucks for a relatively small number of wings. They were tasty though and ultimately the star of my meal. The salad that came out with the wings was nothing to write home about, so I won't say anything more about it. While I waited for my pizza, the staff was very attentive. They checked on me several times. They refilled my drink a few times…once because I finished it, and a couple of times because the ice melted and visibly watered the drink down…yes, that’s how long the wait is. When the pizza finally arrived, I was excited. It looked and smelled amazing. I scooped my first slice out of the deep dish, and the cheese stretched forever. I thought it was going to be epic, but I'm sorry to say that I was underwhelmed. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't great or anywhere near my favorite pizza ever. I will eat at Rance’s again though. I will probably try a different pizza. I will definitely have the wings again, but I’ll pass on the salad. Final note, this location is not very big. If you plan to dine in, know that there is not a lot of room. It would be more comfortable in a bigger location, especially for a place where it takes 45 minutes for the pizza to cook. Overall, the amazing staff and the wings made for a nice experience.
Today I learned that I am not yet a fan of Chicago Pizza. This is the first time I have tried Chicago style pizza and I was not sure what to expect. We ordered the stuffed deep dish, paninis, and garlic bread. The paninis and garlic bread were great. When the pizza came out it looked great but I have to say I didn’t enjoy it. I feel like this is not Rance’s fault, you see when it comes to the construction pizza, I am surely brainwashed. As such, I simply can’t review this pizza till I try their pan or thin style pizza or until I try other Chicago style pizza so I have a frame of reference. However, I can review the staff and other food we ate the they were great. I will try Rance’s again and report back. If you are like me and want to try something new I wouldn’t hesitate to tell you to give Rance’s a try.
Great experience at Rance’s! We had the supreme stuffed pizza and it was delicious, very filling. We went on a Saturday around lunch time, no wait, great service. Derek is a character, super friendly and helpful with the menu. If you’re starving, do not order the stuffed pizza, as it takes close to 45 min to prepare. The pizza was great, but it seemed they were a little light-handed on the toppings. One piece of pizza had a sausage or two, and very few veggies. A pizza that’s close to $40 should have an ample amount of toppings. Still highly recommended!
UPDATE: Had a better experience today. Piping hot pizza and was tasty. Great service and overall a great meal! I normally love Rance’s but today’s experience did not meet expectations. The tables were dirty, my well done stuffed pizza came out just barely warm and the sauce was nothing like the tomato sauce from 6 months ago. This version of the sauce lacked flavor and depth and wasn’t even hot (temperature) strangely enough. I dined in so this is especially confusing why the pizza wasn’t hot. The waitress was very nice though! Beer was cold.
So Disappointed with this purchase. I ordered from this pizza place for the first time. After going on to Google maps and looking for local pizza places that were around me. I stumbled across Rance's Chicago Pizza. What had sold me to go here was a photo that was shown of some cheesy pepperoni pizza. it looked really good. So I decided to Order 1 Large Pepperoni Pizza 6 piece Buffalo Wins(standard size wings) -for to go- TOTAL came out to $41 or $42 dollars. WOW. that was a shocker. So expensive. So I thought that it better be good for how expensive it was. And after opening the Box of Disappointment. I was so Bummed. I saw a the RED SEA OF SAUCE, poured over what looked like a Pizza. IT LOOKED NOTHING CLOSE TO WHAT I THOUGHT I WAS GETTING, FROM THE PICTURE I SAW FROM GOOGLE MAPS. As shown in the picture I provided. I also took a picture of how it looked after scrapping off all that sauce. "Where's the pepperoni?"... I can't believe what I paid $42 for. As far as the taste goes. it was alright, but I don't think I could enjoy at as much as I would have, if it looked how I had I thought it would be. I Dont think ill be coming here again. Its unfortunate to not only be let down on what you thought you were getting, but even more so of a disappointment to have paid so much for it. I hope this review helps out someone before they decide to order from here. I wish I knew before I had. I would of ordered somewhere else. A $42 dollar lesson learned. *SINCE FOR SOME REASON I CANT ADD A CAPTION TO MY PHOTOS. I WILL ADD IT HERE. 1ST (OF THE GOOGLE MAP). ID SAY: What I Thought that I would get..., Sadly it looked Nothing like what I got...the pic in their profile was what sold me to order there. But it definitely wasn't what I got i. Just an expensive plate that was covered in Sauce. No Pepperoni at all. When what I had ordered was Cheese & Pepperoni 2nd pic caption would be: (WAS SUPPOSE TO BE A CHEESE & PEPPERONI PIZZA) WHAT I RECEIVE. DISAPPOINTMENT. ALL THE RED YOU 3rd photo what I'd put as a caption is: (WAS SUPPOSE TO BE A CHEESE & PEPPERONI PIZZA) AFTER SCRAPING THE SAUCE OFF OF THE PIZZA. AND
Our dine-in experience was initially enjoyable, with Natalie, our server, providing friendly and helpful service during our first visit. We ordered a salad and two pizzas, thin crust and deep dish, and later packed up the leftovers to share with family. Unfortunately, a few hours later, I experienced food poisoning, and my brother found a piece of cardboard in the deep dish. My husband contacted the restaurant, informing the manager of the situation and emailed the photo of the cardboard baked into the pizza slice upon request. Despite providing evidence, the manager seemed to be doubting us, suggesting it was probably the pizza box liner. We clarified that their liners are white, while the cardboard was brown. The manager told us he would let his boss know and call us back. The manager's boss contacted us and asked if it was the pizza box liner because the manager had told him that it was. We explained that it wasn't and he requested that we email him the photo as well. Despite enjoying our dine-in and understanding that mistakes happen, the manager's handling of the situation and miscommunication with his boss left us frustrated. While hesitant to leave a negative review, the unnecessary complications soured an otherwise pleasant experience.
I’ve ordered from Rance’s Chicago Pizza before and had good experiences, but this visit was disappointing. This was an online order that I had already paid for. When I arrived, the server handed me a credit card receipt to add a tip, which felt awkward given that the order was prepaid. When I questioned it, he seemed visibly put off. After that, I was still waiting for my pizza. I noticed a box sitting on the counter but assumed it was for someone else. After more than five minutes, the server finally walked over to that same box and then called me over, telling me I would need to cut the pizza at home. The restaurant wasn’t busy at all—only two tables were occupied—yet the interaction felt rushed and inattentive. Unfortunately, the pizza itself also wasn’t as good as the last two times I’ve ordered. Maybe it was the service experience that affected my impression, but overall this visit left a bad taste. Probably won’t be back.
I really don’t like leaving bad reviews, but unfortunately, this is one of those times. The staff was great—friendly and kind, which I appreciated. I ordered the pepperoni and chicken deep dish, but sadly, it was bland from start to finish. I wanted to like it, especially after paying $35, but the only thing I could really taste was oregano in the tomato sauce. Even the tomatoes lacked flavor, and the whole thing tasted like it was made with frozen, low-quality ingredients. It did make a nice Instagram picture, but that’s about it. I think they really need to work on the quality of their ingredients. For now, I’d suggest saving your money and trying somewhere else.
We recently dined at Rance's Chicago Pizza, hoping to enjoy some classic deep-dish. While the staff were friendly, our experience left much to be desired, especially regarding service, food quality, and overall satisfaction. First, the wait was incredibly long. Despite ordering two small and one large deep-dish pizzas, we waited over 45 minutes for our food, with no explanation for the delay. There were only 2 other tables there. When it finally arrived, we were excited by the presentation—the pizzas looked visually appealing, with vibrant layers of cheese, sauce, and toppings. However, the crust was a huge letdown. It tasted suspiciously like pre-made dough, similar to a store-bought, tube-style crust rather than the freshly-made, buttery crust we expected in a deep-dish pizza. On top of that, the crust and overall bake seemed undercooked. After waiting 45 minutes in the oven, it should have been thoroughly cooked, yet it was doughy and somewhat raw in parts, especially under the toppings. This became apparent when we both suffered from stomach issues later in the night, enduring severe diarrhea likely caused by the undercooked dough. Finally, a minor yet notable issue: when it came time to pay, the server handed the check to my date, despite my name being clearly printed on the card. This small act felt awkward and somewhat emasculating, making the end of the meal even less pleasant. Overall, while the presentation of Rance’s pizzas is enticing, the lengthy wait, questionable crust quality, and uncomfortable service left us disappointed. This experience was far from what we expected, and unfortunately, it’s not a place we’ll be revisiting. Total bill after 18% Tip was $100. Not worth it for me.
We ordered a 14-inch deep-dish pepperoni and chicken pizza from this shop, which we chose based on its good reviews and ratings. However, I am extremely disappointed; it was a waste of money. I'm not sure how they received their "award" but the pizza was tasteless.
Their stuffed Chicago-style pizza is a joke for $23 for a 12 inch stuffed Chicago-style pizza it was nothing but stuffed with air and my pineapple was even inside the stuffed pizza and the sausage that was inside of the pizza was minimal chunks, the rest was air as soon as I got home the pizza deflated and I was basically eating crust!save your money maybe it would have been better with the Mediterranean but if they can't do it right the first time they get no more chances, it's all about first impressions and this place failed at getting a key impression, I'm giving this place a very bad review
We drove from the South Bay area with high hopes for this highly recommended pizza, but unfortunately, our experience was disappointing. We ordered a large stuffed pizza, enticed by the glowing reviews and appetizing social media pictures. Sadly, the reality didn't match the expectations. Within the first few bites, it was clear that the sausage was undercooked and too chewy, prompting me to remove it from my slice. My wife and daughter also left their slices half-eaten. Although I typically avoid complaining, the lack of response to our obvious dissatisfaction was disheartening. When our waitress brought the check and asked if we needed a box, we declined, leaving over half the pizza untouched on the pan. Despite this, there was no inquiry into whether there had been a problem with our meal. An acknowledgment of the mistake or an apology would have made a significant difference. While the staff was otherwise very friendly, the undercooked pizza and lack of attention to our dissatisfaction have unfortunately led us to decide not to return to this location or the Long Beach one. We understand that cooking a thick pizza takes time, but ensuring it is properly cooked, even if it means waiting a few extra minutes, is essential.
Uber Eats. 100% wrong order delivered. “Manager” accepted responsibility but would not rectify. Cannot recommend.
