We've been going to Mandarin Taste for years as a family. It always hits the spot! It's family friendly and the staff are so nice and attentive. We love to try and go for lunch at least once a month because their specials are amazing and portions are generous. The food is fantastic if you eat it at the restaurant or do take out. Can't recommend supporting this business more! Favorites are kung pao chicken, honey walnut shrimp, and the hot and sour soup!
I had a very nice dining experience here at the Mandarin Taste. I came on a Tuesday night, and it was not crowded at all. Was immediately seated, order taken and had my soup and dinner all within 10 minutes. I really enjoyed the atmosphere. Was incredibly relaxing and the service was impeccable. I ordered the wonton soup and the number 9 plate, which was a kung pao shrimp beef and chicken combination. The restaurant is well kept and clean, and the hospitality was wonderful by everyone. Thoroughly enjoyed all of it. I will return soon
Was at work one day and I couldn't believe my eyes, saw the mandarin taste sign and thought back to the memories of the amazing food I had at the Anaheim Hills location when it was open years ago, tried it yesterday for the first time and the food is exactly the same!,delicious and fresh to the table,so happy to discover my favorite Chinese restaurant again!.
Great food, great service! I love the decorations and general atmosphere, it’s vintage but very well maintained, not at all dirty or worn down feeling. I grew up on this kind of family style casual dining (also a great choice for larger gatherings!) And I’m sure many who grew up in Southern California would find this place just as delightfully nostalgic as I do. Have only had great service and great food here, and they serve alcohol at a very reasonable price, this a definite must go in my book!
Absolutely the best Chinese restaurant in LA County. The food cannot be better, but the service is just outstanding. Even though we only get to dine at Mandarin Taste once a year, we are treated like the most valued guests. It is so good, we are dinner, at Mandarin Taste, two nights in a row. This is a real gem.
This restaurant is AMAZING I’ve been coming here for 33 years. It’s fresh the food is always so yummy and hot and fresh staff is friendly and service is fast. We love Mandarin Taste. I started coming here when I was in kindergarten my mom would pick me up and take us for lunch.
I tried this place for the first time for a graduation.... at dare I say it blew my mind. I liked their food so much I ended up coming back and ordering up for all my co workers. The food tastes clean and authentic. Do not miss out on this place.
Great food & service as usual! The decor and the ambiance of this restaurant is really lovely. I’ve had the sizzling beef, orange chicken, & honey walnut shrimp in the past. All of these are really good dishes every time we order them. Dine in always comes with a pot of green tea which is a nice touch. Give it a try if you haven’t been here before!
Hands down my favorite local place to grab really good Chinese food. I believe this place is family owned/operated it definitely feels that way. The atmosphere inside is very welcoming and intimate since it’s a little on the smaller side although they do have additional seating for large parties. Usually when I go in it’s calm and quiet and I really enjoy not feeling crowded. All the dishes that I’ve tried are really delicious. My favorites are the wonton soup and the lemon chicken. I love to get the po-po platter and steamed dumplings when I dine in with friends. Do yourself a favor and take some friends and go grab a table ! *they do tend to close a little bit early so plan accordingly it’s worth it.
The best Chinese food in the world! My family and I have been frequenting Mandarin taste my entire life. It's a staple of diamond bar, and I hope it's always here! Our favorites include the Szechuan beef, kung pao chicken, Yang Chou fried rice, moo shu pork and crispy honey chicken. You always receive hot tea when you are seated. If you have not been here, please make the time to give them your business. You won't be disappointed!
Delicious food! This was our first time here and if we're back in the area we will definitely come back. Authentic Chinese food served family-style. The waiter was also excellent.
Luckly to find it on our way home from an exhausted trip. Waiters here are so friendly and fun. We got the best service ever had in Chinese restaurants! Shrimp is very fresh. the soup with crispy crust is really tasty. We also got nice snack and fruit :D
We began coming here before the pandemic, They remain in operation and making delicious food, my wife likes the tropical drinks, try the Scorpion. We at times go totally vegetarian, they have good choices for this. Go in and support our local Chinese restaurant. Up date: Still delicious, we stop in after running errands late 8:00-8:30 no problem. My wife likes the Scorpion drink. Hot and sour soup always good and fast, no tofu for us. Mixed veggies are tasty and healthy. Give it a go.. Another update: 3/14/23 Another great meal later in the evening. Dumpling, soup and vegetables. Always a great meal served hot with smiles.
We chose to eat here after my husband's college graduation ceremony. We made a reservation for 15 and they set aside a run for us with two large tables. The food was amazing, the service was impeccable, and the prices were decent. We all had a wonderful time and we will be back.
Our favorite Chinese restaurant! We've been regulars here since coming to Diamond Bar in 1986. Some of our favorite dishes include the Szechuan Beef, Yang Chow fried rice, Moo Shu Pork (aka Chinese burrito!), sautéed green beans, and Honey Crispy Chicken, just to name a few. Try it! You'll love it here!
Honey walnut shrimp and chicken with spinach is excellent. Service is always great and friendly. Love the sizzling rice soup- it's my favorite. Great mixed drinks at reasonable cost. Very family friendly.
We have been coming here over 25 years. They have the best drinks in Diamond Bar. And the cuisine is higher quality than any of the Chinese restaurants around here. All the servers are extremely warm and friendly. But above all, there is always consistency; it is always very good and other times, it is excellent. Anybody who comes here will not regret spending their money and time here.
My wife and I came here for the 1st time and the food was delicious! Wonton soup was great, the lemon chicken with sweet & sour sauce was very tasty, and the steam fish with tofu was wonderful! We'll be back soon!
We have been coming here for years. The food is great. The atmosphere is very nice. Staff are very friendly. They have been in business for 40 years, so that should say something. I recommend it. It is an el la cart which is plenty and we always have food to take home. We ordered 6-7 dishes and the bill came out to $102.00, not bad for these days.
Great authentic food and service. A must try if you’re in the area.
We loved it there! Everything was delicious l- the host and the waiter were very welcoming and suggested us their best sellers- We appreciated their patience explaining us the dishes
Excellent food and service! Will definitely return again. Food is fresh and flavorful. Great customer service. They brought tea and water immediately with the menu. Servers were friendly and always checking on you. You never run out of water
Had an amazing experience here yesterday. Awesome to see the same staff working and happy to be there. I have been coming here since i was 3 years old with my grandfather who was a diamond bar resident for 45 years . He passed away but I came back to visit and just see if it brought back good memories , and it did. It exceeded my expectations .The food was excellent, pricing was great and the atmosphere was amazing.
This is my 2nd time at Mandarin Taste Restaurant and I truly love it. My brother and I like to celebrate our birthdays here with our family. The service is great and our waiter Yung is always so friendly and funny. The servings are big family style with a nice ambiance. We went on Sunday around noon and it wasn't too busy which was good for us. It seems like families come here a lot. We ordered the hot and sour soup, shrimp fried rice, Chicken Lo Mien, honey walnut shrimp, kung pao shrimp, chicken, and beef combo, Szechuan beef, chop suey, salt and pepper chicken, salt and pepper prawns, Sweet and sour chicken, and Mongolian Beef. My favorite was the honey walnut shrimp, Szechuan beef, and kung pao shrimp, chicken, and beef combo. Everything else was good. I wasn't really a fan of the salt and pepper chicken and prawns. They were fried and that's not what I expected. But all in all it was great and I can't wait to come back again. Check it out for yourself!
Truly is one of the last best and classy restaurant in Diamond Bar. Amazingly affordable lunch and dinner specials. Old school Chinese sit-down restaurant with super friendly and attentive staff who are very well mannered and well dressed. Great cocktail drinks paired with deliciously cooked food. One of Diamond Bar's hidden gems.
We've have been looking for a place like this ever since Hop Louies closed its doors in Chinatown over 10 years ago! This place is old school cool..its dark with glowing lanterns..stiff Polynesian type cocktails (think Mai tais, scorpions, blue hawaiians!) and our server Andy was absolutely amazing!! Just a tip if you're not feeling too hungry, order the pupu platter and a couple cocktails and you are set!! The skewers, egg rolls, and coconut shrimp included with the platter are TOP NOTCH, my husband loved the paper wrapped chicken and ribs, yum! The platter is served with a glowing little fire torch that you can grill your food on 😁 Everything was just so good combined with excellent service, we will definitely be back again and again!
friendly staffs, nice place, & tasty/authentic Chengdu food! Had a good time with my family. strongly recommended.
Please try WALNUT SHRIMP !!!! I love restaurants atmosphere so much And shrimp is sweet and very crispy! Price is so good i wish its more expensive

Been looking for Chinese restaurant that reflects the old family style restaurants that I remember as a young girl. Places like The Great Wall in West Covina and Yangtze’s in Ontario are sorely missed. Not quite family style, The Mandarin Taste restaurant offered exceptional courses. The Po Po platter of appetizers fed five hungry ladies. I ended up taking home the dinner I had ordered. Only negative was the room was darker than I prefer. I am 76 and need lighting more than mood lighting!
I have been eating at Mandarin Taste since I was 4 years old. Since when they used to have to polaroid pictures taped to the wall where you waited for your seat. Since the shopping center was a thriving place for business. I have been gone from the area for years now, but I came home over the summer and after a shopping trip at Brea Mall, I craved some Szechwan beef and nostalgia. Upon walking in, we noticed some small changes. The polaroid pictures are gone (mines was up there!) but everything else was exactly the same. Including the staff. They have of course aged as we all have, but I remember them in their younger years. We ordered all our old favorites. The pu-pu platter, chow mein, fried rice, and Szechwan beef. All of it tasted exactly the way it did the last time we had it. The consistency of this place is insane and much appreciated. The service was good too. I don't have any issues with Mandarin Taste and we always had great food and a good time here over so many years. Graduations, births, birthdays, and job promotions. All celebrated here. It made me sad to see the shopping center as desolate as it was. In the 80's and 90's, it was a busy place and again, many memories being there. I'm glad to see that Mandarin Taste has been able to remain and among so much change, they have been able to stay the same. Thanks for the memories. Please support this restaurant. You won't be disappointed.
Out of towners looking for good Chinese food. Found it ! Old school like i remember. Had the veggie egg foo yung n kung pow chicken! Very nice 👌 👍 👏 Lady that gave us our to go order was wonderful. She packed the box with plates, utensils and sauces. Price is about what you expect to pay for good food these days ! No problem. Thank you we enjoyed our dinner !!

Pretty good food, but it seemed like the demographics of the diners were mostly American and/or non-Chinese. Perhaps the food speaks to them. The staff were all super friendly and always had a smile on their faces, which was a nice change of scenery from the typical. This place had a homey feeling. And the best part? They serve beer and cocktails! You can have your orange chicken with a six pack!
I recently dined at Mandarin Taste Restaurant in Diamond Bar and had a mixed experience. The restaurant quickly seated us, and we ordered Kung Pao Chicken, Orange Chicken, Beef with Garlic Sauce, Mongolian Beef, Egg Fried Rice, and Egg Rolls. The food portions were decent and arrived promptly. However, the service left something to be desired. Our server was not very attentive, and I had to chase him down to order more dishes and request the check. This lack of attentiveness impacted the overall dining experience. Despite the service issues, the food itself was satisfactory. The flavors were good, and the portions were generous. I appreciated the variety of dishes on the menu, and everything we tried was flavorful. In conclusion, while the experience at Mandarin Taste was not bad overall, there is room for improvement in the service department. I may give this restaurant another chance in the future, hoping for better service.
The hot and sour soup was spicy and tasty, and the Walnuts Shrimp and Scallops with Garlic Sauce were also delicious. Qingdao beer was served in a chilled glass!
Food is fine, but It's not my type, not spicy, just plain food. But chicken was great. Tofu was fine so you can just try it. Quality and quantity is value of money
very very good food, great service and atmosphere! all at a reasonable price.
Went there for a romantic dinner on a Saturday. The food was very nice but romantic it was not - they were preparing the buffet area for the Sunday brunch just next to us. They should wait until the restaurant is empty.

I lived in Diamond Bar for alot of my life and never tried this till recently . I got the honey walnut shrimp and lo Mein noodles. The honey shrimp was juicy and the batter and flavoring was good as well as the portion size was nice amount. What killed it for me they had this creamy sauce it was served in and the texture and appearance was like mayo. I really didn't care for it. Maybe I'll say sauce on side next time lol idk . Some chines places do their honey walnut that way with too much of the creamy sauce and others do it the panda express way just sticky sauce and walnuts . I guess I prefer the panda way. Now the lo mein noodles were good flavor wise . My mom liked them more than me and has ordered a few times since . However she cooks up shrimp and adds sauce to them at home . You get a big portion of noodles and served with beef, shrimp and chicken. I liked the beef and shrimp but the chicken not so much so I prefer it not have it . Overall I'd maybe try it again because they had some other interesting dishes plus the prices were a bit better than PF. Overall between MT and PF I'd go with PF.
I’ve been going here for years and since they’ve reopened post Covid the quality has changed. The food portions is less and the food lacks flavor. There is very little protein in their dishes and you can barely see the vegetables in the chow mein. I have read their recent reviews and I am shocked at some on them. You don’t have to be a foodie to realize this food has no taste. The staff is friendly, but they need to know that their food quality has changed in the worse way.
Nice restaurant ambiance and very friendly people. On the other hand the food was barely edible. The General Tsos chicken (white meat) is practically a plate of fried chicken skin. Egg rolls were terrible…frozen food section has better. Fried rice w/egg was terrible. If your taste buds are burnt off this is an excellent place to eat.🤷🏼

rude, telling me no lunch special on Jan 1 st but leave the lunch special menu to me lmao
Drove 30 mins to this location because it says online they close at 9 walked in at 8:20 and they refused service. Horrible service
My mother who had eaten here before told me how good the food was In this restaurant. . She said the food was really delicious. It was about 12:30 PM.on a weekday. The older man who sat us was extremely rude, I’m hard of hearing and my Mother is blind. She asked a question about the lunch specials because she can’t see and he snapped at her and slapped the menu saying lunch specials here. I tried to ask him a question about something on the menu I couldn’t hear what he replied but I’m sure it was just as rude because he turned his back on us. I said to my Mother anybody that is that rude I think we should leave. I would have turned around and walked right back out the door but my Mother said no let’s just stay I’m sure he’s just having a bad day. Let it go. The cook must’ve been having a bad day, too, because it was the worst Chinese food we’ve ever had. Not only was it not good it was horrid. I also wasn’t pleased that I never got asked which kind of soup I preferred I would like to have had the egg flower even if I had to pay more. We were served the hot and sour. It was good, but that’s it…I had shrimp and peapods it was so bad that i couldn’t eat it. My mother had the orange chicken, She couldn’t eat it it was rockhard. When the waiter came to the table, we asked for the manager he said the manager wasn’t available and since we had already had a bad experience with the man that sat us I asked if he would take a little bit off the price it was over $30 and we only had water to drink he could see we hadn’t eaten the food he said that wouldn’t be possible so we paid the bill and left however now we will now never go back. The food was terrible. The service was terrible. Shame on this establishment!
This location is extremely disappointing. I say that in the most sincerest way. Because when you go to this area number one, this is an area that is predominantly owned by Asians and there are many similar restaurants to choose from. Now the location looks 100% authentic. When you go in, it's actually nice. It's got a dark ambience to it, but let's get to the food. I'm going to say this first if you're Asian and you know, specific items that are on the menu to order. I'm sure they're going to prepare those items fresh. And I'm sure that Asians are not gonna be served subpar food. I witnessed this first-hand with an Asian family that ordered something different on the menu. And it came out looking like it was absolutely fresh steaming and hot. We ordered the family dinner. The higher cost option, which was $29.99 per person. And the food was absolutely horrible. You can clearly tell it was not fresh. It had possibly been recooked no less than 2 times. We ordered Sweet and sour chicken, sweet and sour pork, sheshwan beef and kung pao chicken. These are super popular standard dishes. That a Chinese restaurant should be preparing at an amazing level. That's what I would have expected. I am well aware that these entrees are not authentic Chinese food at an authentic Chinese restaurant. I am well aware this is food that was made for the US decades ago. I have been to restaurants like New Garden located in Roland Heights they offer the same type of food, and it is absolutely amazing & fresh! The food was so overcooked because it was not fresh. The chicken, the beef was actually crunchy with in the breading. The breading itself was so hard. From the 2 times or more, it's being refried and served.. The fried rice was submerged in soy sauce. During the refry process I honestly have never had worse Egg fried rice I don't know how they can mess that up but they did. The sweet-and-sour sauce that they have is literally the consistency of water. Now I don't know if they serve their Asian guest the same sweet-and-sour sauce but if I was Asian I would definitely a 100% not touch that sauce. This restaurant is a sad example for serving very popular Chinese food dishes. The egg rolls in our appetizers are of the same quality that you would get at a donut shop / chinese Fast food spot. I would not suggest anyone look at this as an option for traditional american chinese food, there are many other places that are serving Quality fresh made to order food at the same exact price. Again, this is a restaurant its not a fast food Chinese food spot, and they're prices reflect that of what you would expect to have fresh food prepared.
Saw great ratings for this place. Ordered for take out - corn soup, Kung pao chicken and honey walnut shrimp. What a disappointment. The Kung Poa chicken was bland and flavorless. We barely ate it and talked about recooking the leftover somehow. The shrimp had a fishy after taste which meant either it wasn't fresh or it was left out before it was cooked. The corn soup was only decent but the more you eat, the more it became too sweet. Unfortunately, this will be the first and last time eating here. Bummer.

Ordered the lunch 3 meat lo mein ( chicken, beef, shrimp). Unfortunately only ate a few bites. Shrimp was off, stinky, bit into one and immediately spit it out. Stomach felt off immediately after and stinky shrimp flavor inundated the rest of the dish. They were kind about it offered to make it without shrimp or something else but felt nauseous and didn't want to eat lunch any more. Only charged me for a coke. Which I found funny because as a former chef I would be mortified and think the least I could do is comp the drink for ruining someone's lunchtime meal. The only positive thing is the service from the waiter was fast and polite
