Opinions de Bluey's Culver City
Well, it was early morning and i was on the bus going at work when my stomach did start doing some weird noises then i realized that i needed to stop to a coffee shop and use the bathroom. That was an emergency. I saw Bluey's and jumped off from the bus and did run to get in, it was still closed since it was 6:53am. I asked a young guy that he was sitting outside what time they open and he replied in Spanish which i was hoping that he was telling me that they open at 7am, can't lie, i was in cold sweat for 7 mins until they opened. I ordered a coffee and a croissant to go. The cashier was really nice and friendly. I was able to use the bathroom. BLUEY'S SAVED ME!!
If I could give Blueys a 6 out of 5 I would! I've been enjoying brunch, lunch, dinner, and quick matcha dates at Blueys since it opened in Mar Vista - it's a go to local spot for me, and it always delivers on the deliciousness, vibey, and ease fronts. I also hosted a private event at Blueys and the team was exceptional - professional, communicative, warm, creative, generous, and fun. I love this spot and highly recommend it!
Love this spot - food is DIVINE. Literally anything you get is good. Drink selection also great. Ambience is nice on a weekday, gets busy on the weekends but still nice. Feels like the neighborhood spot.
I had a bad experience elsewhere this evening and went down the street to Beethoven and Venice Blvd and tried Bluey’s for the first time. The food was excellent, reasonably priced, and the staff was extremely friendly and professional. Lots of people watching at that location on a spacious and comfortable front patio (with a nice inside dining area and a great back patio too). I highly recommend this restaurant- 10 out of 10!
Not sure why this spot has 4 stars, I find it is reliably tasty. Love that it’s walk up ordering so you don’t need a reservation for a brunch. We frequently go with big groups and there’s always tables to accommodate us, even though the place is consistently busy. There is always a line but it moves really fast! Love the food, our group has tried pretty much everything and it’s all good! I personally enjoy the chilaquiles, squash pancakes, and breakfast burrito, but you can’t go wrong! No frills, cute and vibey, but relaxed for anytime eating. Glad they’re in our neighborhood! Also really helped liven up a typically dead zone of Venice Blvd. Kudos!
One of my favorite neighborhood cafes - consistently delicious food and drinks. Honorable mentions are the mango smoothie and kale salad. The staff and atmosphere are top notch!! Definitely recommend for grabbing lunch solo or with friends or just stopping by to grab a coffee
The food was absolutely delicious. I got the Bluey's Burger with no grated onions, cooked medium rare. It was juicy, flavorful, and came with a delicious side salad. I also got the Matcha, with the vanilla cold cream ontop. It added the perfect hint of sweetness to the drink, as well as being visually gorgeous. My mom got the Avo Toast, and I had a bite, also absolutely delicious. The eggs were fresh and flavorful, and the bread was perfectly crunchy, but soft on the inside. Bluey's has indoor and outdoor seating, the outdoor seating has space for wheelchair accessibility as well. Overall a beautiful spot for brunch!
Came for the breakfast burrito and was not disappointed. I had the chorizo BB. Added the avocado. Perfect ratio of meat, cheese, tater tots, and eggs. Delicious!
Starting off with a “heads up” - no cash accepted here. Luckily I had my phone and could pay electronically (I went out for a walk without my full wallet) I had a lovely weekday breakfast here. I like the back patio, as it’s much less noisy than the sidewalk terrace. I got a lox bagel- next time I’ll ask that they hold the dill (personal preference). I like the water station, and the choice of glassware for the coffee drinks. Random positive detail: real napkins. Nice touch. I came by foot, but I imagine that parking might be a challenge. Additional small details I liked: artwork, friendly counter service. Things I could do without: the default tip options on the electronic payment system- 18%, 20%, 25%. I know from my own experience as a server that a “tip earner wage” is often low, but for me, a quasi self-service joint is a place for 15% max tip. The server takes ONE trip to drip your food, then one additional to pick up your plate at the end. If I could tip anyone extra it would be the dish washers. (They work really hard/ not sure if they get a slice of the tips…)
First time in the Mar Vista location (I prefer the Santa Monica one). Outside street seating area is good. Might run into long lines on weekends but the food is worth it. I love the squash pancakes. They are surprisingly good!
Everything was delicious! First time here and it won’t be my last. Breakfast burrito was full of flavor and the English breakfast was solid. Latte was also excellent. Worth every penny. Eat here!
Newer place in Mar Vista, very open and trendy. Great food, had burger, fries and kale salad, all was excellent. Inside and outside seating with front and back patio. Nice, cool atmosphere. Very cute place.

My first time visiting with a friend who treated me to say thank you. I loved everything about it. The food was amazing. We shared the Blueys Mar Vista Plate and the Chicken Burrito. Next visit I will definitely get the squash pancakes and breakfast burrito.
Blueys Mar Vista is such a gem! The moment I walked in, I was greeted by a warm, beachy vibe that instantly made me feel relaxed. The coffee is incredible — smooth, rich, and full of flavor. I ordered the avocado toast with poached eggs, and it was absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. The ingredients were fresh, and everything tasted homemade with love. The staff were friendly, welcoming, and super attentive. The atmosphere is cozy yet bright, perfect for brunch with friends or a solo coffee break. Prices are fair for the quality and presentation. Every visit here feels refreshing. Blueys Mar Vista definitely deserves five stars

Blueys has great food and coffee. My husband and I often go there on the weekend for brunch. It does get crowded though and service can be pretty slow. It's nice that we can take our dog with us and sit outside. Our favorite things to order are the Bowl Formerly Known As and Squash Pancakes.
I wish they didnt charge extra for plantbased milk and they had more all plantbased food options.... Otherwise, convenient location for me, nice seating.
Nice ambiance. Cool vibe. Coffee and food was nice (nothing spectacular.) On a cold rainy Presidents Day morning, they were open, and so we're all the windows and patio doors. But all the early morning guests were prepared for the covered, but open air dining room. Our cappuccino orders were hot and tasty with the expected swirls. Our 2 breakfast sandwiches were vastly different. My wife ordered the Little Gordo sammy, which was perfect size for her. It had a nice spicy bite. Whereas I ordered the breakfast sandwiches which was triple the size of hers. Good flavor. Tasty, but again, nothing super special nor spectacular. I would go again, if I can find close street parking and during non peak hours. It seems to be a popular place.
We ordered all the appetizers for dinner. Best ones mushrooms w broccoli & fried zucchini. Key lime pie also delicious. It’s very cute & boho chic
Maybe I didn’t order the right stuff but I found Blueys in Mar Vista to be just ‘ok’ (kind of like the ‘melty face’ emoji) I had higher hopes.. it wasnt bad but it wasnt outstanding The pros -lots of open space to hang out and enjoy your meal, whether back patio, inside or front outdoor area which lets you bathe in the sun on a good day -food came out relatively quickly -the brekkie burrito was tasty! Even with the soyrizo The not so pros -having to line up to order food at the counter vs table service (can take a while… ) -the squash pancakes had so much potential but were very underwhelming :/ (granola felt too sweet too, while pancakes were just meh and kinda dry) -the smoothie (mango + coconut milk + ginger + mint) was ok, nothing to write home about. They only add a tiny tiny scoop of protein.. and if you ask for another, you’re paying extra for maybe 6-8g protein, if you’re lucky? (To be confirmed but my guess from asking to see the scoop size) Might consider returning for lunch or dinner. But for someone who ranks breakfast as their favorite meal, it was ‘just ok’
Great friendly staff. Plenty of seating. Had the chiLAquilez. I'm mexican and I can honestly say, there was too much pepper and not enough salt. But the presentation is beautiful non the less. I mean, look at it 😆 I like my chilaquilez savory which was lacking but the spice...woah. nasal pasage clearing so 👌 but i did have to use hella salt to add flavor and combat the black pepper. Instead of the radish maybe jicama would be a better palette cleanser. The dish is already spicy the Rabanos made it even spicier lol. I think if you offered an extra side of the crema and maybe a slice of the queso fresco it would definitely even out the dish. Loved the avocado and the crispness of the chips. The salsa on these is definitely homemade so no, ur not getting a plateful of pato sauce. Would i get it again? Most likely no, but i am looking forward to trying their chorizo bfast burrito next time. A little pricey but in this economy, indont blame em. I tried their $7 fresh squeeze orange juice that came in a tiny cup but i will say - that orange must have come from mount olympus because, damn. That was good. I just wish it was maybe 10oz or put over ice with some water. Friendly and cozy overall which is something i find refreshing in this day and age. Would bring my friends for brunch for sure.
Food is very aesthetic but overpriced. I enjoyed the zucchini pancakes but the rest of the food was meh. The burrito was pretty, but I was expecting it to be more flavorful for the price. If you don’t mind waiting for a table, it’s a decent place for food. It’s a really busy location with tables on the sidewalk right next to a busy street. However, coffee was good.
Cool vibe, nice area to eat outside with umbrellas. Dog friendly. Very good breakfast burrito.

The ChiLAquiles were very tasty and crunchy. They had a little kick to them. Next time I will order with 2 fried eggs and some extra cheese just my personal liking.
Cool vibe, nice area to eat outside with umbrellas. Dog friendly. Very good breakfast burrito.
Beautiful and hippy Cafe/Restaurant. They have interesting art around the seating area. Also the windows in the front open completely. Very clean and unique. My only complaints are the prices, expect to spend well over 10$ for a small meal. And they don’t accept cash.
Great cashier but not good enough waiters/bus boys! Our table was still full of plates when we wanted to sit. Wondering what they are doing. We empty ourselves and the people just look at us instead of taking over. Drinks were good
Love it here but please stop filling the coffee cups all the way to the top! The last three times I got coffee here the cup was so full that the lids pop off it and spills all over the place. Once all over my car, once with my uber delivery person so I know it's not just my clumsiness --- better cups or slightly less full pls!! (this is for the small 8oz cups -- not sure about the bigger size)
For dinner I thought the kale salad lacked I had a burger on top of it and it wasn't very good
I liked the atmosphere, cute patios back and front. Inside was spacious, but it’s really loud. The food was decent. Lavender tea latte I ordered was pretty good as well, but those drink prices on the menu have to be fixed or need more explanation by the cashier when ordering . So Lavender Tea Latte on the menu was $4.75, so you think you need to pay only $4.75 right? but without any explanations, they just charged $5.75 instead of $4.75 Looks like no one complained about it before, but how could I know that there’s different prices if only one price is on the menu. We didn’t know that there’s different sizes for lattes. We thought they were only one size for every drinks. They should delineate the price on the drink menu at the beginning. If not, it’s like they are hiding the price. The cashier lady at that time did not seem like she really cares. Not even trying to help us. Only she said was , okay so do you want the small size instead? So that’s really disappointing because she could have said to us instead of saying that, the latte on the menu is the small size. Understand that you get confused, I can give you a dollar back for this time, or something! And I also ordered one fresh squeezed orange juice, it’s $7.67 . It came out really a tiny glass … Overpriced . The busboys came to clean the table so often, which is good, but while enjoying chatting with friends, so many times they came back to our table and asked us they can clean the table didn’t make us feel comfortable. It feels like they wanted us to leave or something.
It was just ok. I got the squash pancakes which I was pretty excited for. They just tasted a little off/odd to me, the flavors didn’t quite work for me and i the granola was overly toasted and tasted burnt. I think they use puréed and strained zucchini, i feel like acorn squash would taste much better. however, my mom loved the pancakes. she ordered the “breakfast bowl formerly known as” thing, and it was good. kale was very salty and the falafel was dry, but that dish was still good. those two dishes plus a tip came out to be $45 which is a lot. we were both very hungry, but neither of us finished our plates, very big portions. this place could use some less overthought menu items, smaller price tag and smaller portions. dog friendly patio seating is the biggest plus
Came in for brunch and was excited to try this place. Service at the register was friendly, as the cashier explained their most popular items. Ordered a plate and a sandwich, both were good but lacked a couple items that were included in the menu description. We had to order them 3 times after receiving our food and only when we went up to the register and remind them was that they showed up. Ordered a $6 orange juice that ended up being a tiny little cup of about 8oz. Disappointed given the price of the OJ. The place looks really nice inside, they don't offer wi-fi, their coffee roaster is Amigo which is usually good but we have yet to try the coffee here. Balanced menu with something for everyone, good amount of seating.
The ambience here is nice and probably the best part of the experience. Unfortunately, the food doesn’t live up to it. I had a pastry and a coffee, and both were very average nothing special. One downside is that there’s no Wi-Fi for customers, which makes it less appealing. Also, several tables are wobbly, which is surprisingly uncomfortable when you’re trying to enjoy a drink or get some work done. Overall, the atmosphere is better than the food. It’s fine for a quick stop, but the quality of the food is barely average and doesn’t match the ambiance.

The burrito I ordered was the “breakfast burrito” the one that was advertised with Oaxacan cheese which I was looking forward to eating. To my disappointed there was only one cheese pull and literally no Oaxacan cheese taste. Now I’m not disappointed in this fact because I know how hard it is to get authentic, fresh Oaxacan cheese. But now the salsa, tell me why I pour the salsa on my burrito and I swear to you it’s just tomato sauce with some flare that dies out before it even gets good. The food is lacking sever flavor and I will definitely not be coming back. I’ll much rather make my drive to downtown LA and gets some real authentic burritos.
The food was great but even though we were two of maybe six other customers, we had to wait over 20 minutes for one lox and cream cheese on a bagel. The lady at the register taking our order was nice enough but when I inquired at the counter after 15 minutes, a second server was not so nice. So, if you don't mind waiting (and I can only imagine what it's like on a crowded weekend), this is the spot for you!

I don’t usually write reviews, but this was frustrating. Ordered a flat white, expecting it to be made at the right temperature—like any decent coffee shop should know how to do. Instead, I get a scalding hot cup that burns my mouth on the first sip. What the hell? A flat white is supposed to be smooth and balanced, not a molten lava disaster. Clearly, the machine was running way too hot, and the barista didn’t bother to check. Basic coffee-making 101: milk temperature matters. This isn’t some complicated, high-end specialty request—it’s just making a flat white properly. If they can’t get that right, what’s the point? Super frustrating.
My partner and I had discovered Blueys less than a week before our August 10th visit and had already become regulars after two wonderful experiences. The atmosphere and food had completely won us over, which made our third visit all the more heartbreaking. The Good: The restaurant itself has a great vibe, and up until this incident, both the food and service had been excellent. Even on this visit, the fish and chips were mostly delicious, and chef Sammy was absolutely gracious when we eventually spoke with him. The Disappointing: Our server Rosa's behavior was unprofessional from start to finish. When we mentioned our common food sensitivities to meat and shellfish (standard dietary restrictions, especially in LA), she immediately became dismissive and moody. Rather than checking with the kitchen about cleaning the grill, she initially refused outright until we politely asked her to actually inquire with the chef. The Unacceptable: When we noticed some bitter-tasting bites in our fish and asked about the freshness (a completely reasonable question for any seafood dish), Rosa took it personally and told us, "You guys should not eat outside." When we asked her to explain this shocking statement, she doubled down, saying we had too many "complaints and needs" to dine out. This kind of response to basic dietary accommodations and food quality questions is not just unprofessional--it's offensive. Food sensitivities are medical needs, not personal preferences, and asking about fish freshness is standard practice for any responsible diner. Chef Sammy's kind apology helped somewhat, but the damage was done. We went from being enthusiastic regulars to questioning whether we'll ever return. For a restaurant in a competitive market like Mar Vista, this level of service failure is particularly disappointing. Bottom Line: Great food and atmosphere can't make up for staff who make customers feel unwelcome for having basic dietary needs. Proceed with caution if you have any food restrictions.
Terrible experience today: 1. The first person we saw when we walked in -- the one who took our order -- had long (real, not artificial) nails visibly filled with black grime. 2. Our server spilled orange juice all over the floor. Accidents happen -- but instead of cleaning it, they just walked away and never returned. 3. The same person with the grimy nails then brought our food, stepped right into the puddle, and tracked sticky footprints all across the floor. 4. Flies were everywhere. We were seated indoors, far from the entrance, yet counted at least five landing on us and on our food. 5. Later, we called to report the experience. The person who said they were the General Manager dismissed us with a quick "sorry about that," offered nothing to make it right, and didn't even take our name or contact information. Blueys used to be our favorite brunch spot on the West Side. Sadly, not anymore.
First experience was decent, second meal was awful. So bad I won’t be trying a third time. Feel much worse after eating here then when I came in. Need something else to get the bad taste out.
Do not come here, do not eat at this place. Food indeed is not well prepared, lacks flavor, but what is really awful is service. Not bad, but worse - hostile, rude servants running on cartel culture attitudes. An uncomfortable and chaotic environment. The lack of organization in the layout leads to constant disruptions, making the experience stressful for customers. Additionally, the waiting area is cramped and poorly maintained, with insufficient seating and no clear system for managing queues. The staff's hostile attitude exacerbates the problem, as they show little regard for customer comfort or satisfaction. Overall, this establishment fails on multiple fronts—food quality, service, and design—making it an unpleasant choice for anyone seeking a decent dining experience. Avoid at all costs.
We live in the neighborhood and really love the food here but the service is so inconsistent and honestly frustrating. We came Friday night for dinner, and sat in front of empty water glasses and menus for 15 minutes so we just left and went somewhere else. We then come back for lunch on Sunday, order and they say it will be 25 minutes. My partner gets his food within 35 minutes and my salad took 45 minutes to come. He was finished by the time I got my food. Absolutely not cool. Please work on this.
I went there for dinner and was really looking forward to this place after reading all the great reviews, but I ended up very disappointed. I ordered a pasta dish as my main meal, but the portion was shockingly small. It was gone in just four bites. Later, when I looked back at the photos, I realized that other people’s pasta portions looked normal—mine was clearly much smaller in comparison. Why was my portion so small? Is it because I’m Asian? If so, does that mean they adjust portion sizes based on how someone looks? I’m honestly really shocked and hurt. The food tasted good, but neither my heart nor my stomach were satisfied. I will never go back.

I was very excited to try this place after seeing the food reviews, but I was highly disappointed with my visit. We were with a group of 4, waited in line, and placed all of our orders under the same number. Waited patiently for 20 minutes for everyone’s food to come out except for mine. After an extra 10, I went to ask for my food, and the server said she would check. She then came back out and said I didn’t order food, where I then showed her under their system where my order was. There was no effort to make it right, just a "We’ll bring out a plate of food." Extremely disappointing and something that needs to be fixed for a restaurant of this stature. The number of 1-star reviews tells you something about this restaurant.
Good interior design to over compensate for the fact that they are lacking in every other category that matters. Food was subpar; you can get better coffee at Dunkin’ Donuts; staff are incredibly dismissive and rude if you don’t have a specific “color” to you (if you know, you know). Incredibly disappointed. The best feeling I had was when I left. Having a coffee and a bacon-egg-and-cheese on the LA subway would have created and been a better atmosphere and experience than this place. If I could put zero stars I would. Do not recommend.
