Opinions de Avanti Ristorante Dallas
This place is amazing! The ambiance is perfect for a date night. It's small and romantic without being overly fancy. The food, oh, the food! I had the clams linguine and was in heaven. Everything about the dinner was absolutely perfect. The wine that the waiter recommended was perfect for the meal we ordered, too. And very fairly priced for what you get. I have nothing other than positive things to say!
We had a lovely time here. Ashley was one of the kindest most energetic servers we have ever had! She was so lovely and made the night even better! The lamb chops and swordfish were to die for, and we ended the night with the peanut butter pie!!! We will definitely be coming back for date night again soon!
Absolutely phenomenal food and service. This is my go to spot when I want to show people the beauty of Dallas food. Owners and management should be proud of the establishment they’re running!
Went here to celebrate my mom to celebrate her birthday and it was an incredible experience. The food was delicious and the staff was kind.
An incredible atmosphere at the food was top notch. Went here for a date with my wife and I couldn't have enjoyed an outing more than common to Avanti.
Had a great family reunion here. Staff was excellent and loved the atmosphere. Food was also phenomenal
Had a great experience here with a high school friend. Had a little hiccup with the valet but the manager reached out to me personally to make it right. This place has a good atmosphere and is owned by good people. Perfect date night spot in a great location.
Had a date night here, and it felt like we were the only ones in the room. The lighting, the music, and the service made the whole night feel effortlessly romantic.
Neat little venue with a good wine and beer selection, went with a group for a birthday and as such was able to try quite a lot of the menu with bites from everyone's plates and honestly, everything was amazing. Escargot, lamb, pasta and the desserts were all very well done and the planting as well for the dishes looked really good, even though I could care less about it I notice when it's well done. Definitely recommend to everyone.
Remarkable table service. Excellent kitchen product. Great atmosphere and vibe. Very enjoyable live acoustic guitar in the background. This was a business dinner for the Mr. and we will definitely be going back together for a date night.
Went to dinner on 4/6/24 and sat at the bar. Had the best pear martini and espresso martini and food. My partner and I shared the calamari and it was crispy and hot. I had the Avanti steak dish and he had the crab cakes. Both were incredible and filling. The best part was the service. Although busy, the bartender and manager on duty made great conversation and took care of us with complimentary dessert. Would love to be a regular if we lived in the city, but such a perfect dinner night for our first night in Dallas. 11 out of 10 stars ❤️
This place is amazing!! Visited on a Monday night and our waiter was Noèl. We had a group of 8 people and the wait staff did not miss a beat. We enjoyed everything we ordered and the atmosphere was really nice and cozy. I can't say enough good stuff.. highly recommend!!!
Heard about Avanti from a family member and decided to give it a try this past Thursday. It was terrific! Absolutely solid top to bottom. A special tip of the hat to the bar keep. We dine out ALOT, and this gentleman is an artist. Exceptional talent. Don’t pass this up. You’ll thank me.
What a find on my first trip to Dallas. Quaint lovely with Amazing service and food. Had the ravioli special. Delicate pasta full of flavor. Great staff.
Food was amazing, I had the fettuccine avanti and the beef was cooked perfectly with a nice crust and was so soft in the center that the fork pulled it away from the knife when I cut into it. The others had the chicken parmesan and the carbonara and they only had positive things to say. I'm not a martini person but I couldn't resist trying the Perfect Pear martini and I'm so glad I did. I'm going to be trying to recreate that at home, it was that good. Live music was a nice touch. Really beautiful, intimate environment with great service. I will definitely be coming back the next time I'm in Dallas. Not much parking but with valet, it doesn't really matter.
Avanti in Dallas delivers outstanding food, attentive service, and a warm, elegant atmosphere that makes it perfect for any special night out.
This place is one of our favorites. Such a romantic place to dine and enjoy elegant service and food. From Amin the owner, CJ the host to Tom our waiter. The entire evening is always incredible. The daily specials, cocktails and dessert keep us coming back. Please enjoy like we do.
Avanti is a nice little Italian restaurant. We were seated on the porch, with beautiful weather. The atmosphere was great for a casual business dinner. Our server did a great job explaining drink and food menus. Service was quick, and he stayed on top of filling drinks. I ordered the chicken parmesean. This is often my go to meal at a new Italian spot, so that I am reviewing fairly off the same meal. I have probably reviewed 10 different Italian restraunt's chicken parm, and it would be tough for me to say that I have had one better than Avanti. It would be easy to say this was 'recency bias;" however, two days prior I again had what has long been the top. So within 2 days I had the pinnacle, and then tried Avanti's for the first time. I think Avanti's is the new pinnacle. I would drive from Tulsa to Dallas just to eat Avanti's (yes...I do tend to travel for good food). Well done. Keep up the great work. Noting but love and 5 🌟.
Had a phenomenal anniversary dinner here with my wife. The atmosphere was perfect for a nice dinner, and the service was exceptional. Will for sure be going back!
Everything was amazing about this restaurant from the food, service, and atmosphere! The food was delicious and flavorful. Service was lovely, although, I don’t like being touched and to get my attention, our waiter would touch my shoulder. Not sure why…? There was a bit of live music from a guitarist which was very nice and made it cozy and romantic—not just for romance, but just a vibe, a feeling of romance. This is definitely a favorite place and one to visit when coming to Dallas.
This place is astonishing. Took my wife here for our anniversary! Loved every dish we had and the service was amazing. Highly recommend.
After about 5 years I saw Amin. Amy goodness. Avantis has been a memories for this 30 years old. From one my first proper food to my first date night with my wife here. I went back after years and encountered Amin. It’s so lovely to see him after all this years. I will be back with my family now that I’m back in DFW.
This restaurant is an intimate dining experience that gives subtle European vibes, making it a great date night spot. The best part is the pasta is delicious while being at a fantastic price point. The chicken parmesan was tender with a breaded herb crust. The mozzarella was fresh, and the soft green beans complemented the fettuccine alfredo perfectly. Even with a reservation, it took a while to get seated (~30 mins) but the meal was worth the wait. Complimentary valet parking is available also. I can't wait to be back!
My boyfriend and I came here for our anniversary, we sat on the patio because it was a little quieter and it was perfect. Everyone from the valet worker, the hosts, and wait staff were so friendly and helpful. We had the ceviche, carbonara, linguine clams, and crème brulee. All were fantastic and perfectly done but the carbonara was the true star! We had some espresso with our dessert also which was great. The live music and ambience were perfect! We got the sangria drinks and Italian margaritas too— great cocktails! Overall 10/10 for a higher-end date night!!
Ava it is the best place we’ve ever been for Italian food. My husband and I went for my birthday and got the stuffed mushroom as our appetizer, the linguine and clams and farfalle carbonara as our entrees, and the tiramisu for dessert. The staff were very welcoming, kind, and attentive. It’s small but charming. This is on our list of faves.
All the glowing reviews are on point. We were visiting the DFW area and could not have been a happier with Avanti's. The food was delicous and plentiful. The service was great as well. Every used dish or utensil was removed quickly to make sure table space was not cluttered. Management was engaging and gracious. The atmosphere was wonderful. We would go back again if in the area and highly recommend to locals.
My wife and I dined here tonight, celebrating our anniversary. We both had the fettuccine Diablo. It was scrumptious and arrived fast and hot. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was quaint and cozy. The staff was pleasant and friendly. We had a great experience. We highly recommend dining here.
Came in for my birthday dinner, and the restaurant made it feel truly special. From the warm welcome to the little surprise dessert, I couldn’t have asked for a better evening.
it was such a great experience the waiter was super nice and very attentive. It was my husband birthday and wanted to take him somewhere more classy and low key and this place was perfect. It was a musician there and the wine was delicious. we was a party of 10 and they made sure to make we had the best experience. they even stayed upon a hour later than they closing time just for us. Best restaurant I been to this far
Romantic candle lit setting with live music. A bit loud but soft enough to have a conversation. Speak up. Lol. Food was fantastic. We had Calamari for starter, Salmon and Chicken Limone both cooked to perfection complimented by a bottle of red wine, and Tiramisu for dessert. Business casual dress code. Perfect for date night! Highly recommend! I didn't take more photos because sometimes it's best to just enjoy something beautiful and perfectly balanced.
Wow! The food was spectacular!!! Boy do I love Avanti. What a great environment. Truly blessed I found this amazing restaurant.
Unreal food and gave top tier taste. The people and the environment couldn't be more welcoming. Went there for a friends birthday and it definetly lived up to the hype.
Saturday was my first time visiting this restaurant. We were celebrating my older sister's birthday (4 months late because of the pandemic). Late or not Avanti served with high praise. I love this restaurant and the employees are stellar. They all were mask the whole time and very respectful. They had live music when we were there (not sure if this a continuous thing that they have). They have a grand wine selection at this location. There is a really intimate atmosphere in the restaurant.
Upscale venue with delicious food! The service was excellent. I had the beet salad for my Greens. It was more-ish. I wanted more! It was so good. I also had beef medalions & fettuccini in a Brandy sauce. WOW! The stuffed mushrooms, crispy meatballs, crab cake & the Gnocchi all very good starters. Chicken Parm also really tasty. We also enjoyed the guitarist who played an assortment of musical favorites. You cant go wrong at Avanti. $$$
The ravioli here has been some of the best I’ve ever had. It reminds me of my past in Italy. This place truly brings a cozy authentic atmosphere and is truly somewhere I love. Great place to bring friends as well as you can try and share all the dishes.
We celebrated our 1 year wedding anniversary here. We were happy to finally get a vegetarian options. My wife ordered spinach ravioli. Good ambience, service live music. Free street parking was not an issue, probably because it was late evening. We ordered 3 items and total came out to be around $53 + tip.
If you haven’t been to this Italian place in uptown, you should add it to your next dinner place to go. I had so much with the food and wished I could eat more of the food on the menu. It was delicious, great location, valet is complimentary, service was wonderful. The specials was so delicious.
Absolutely, positively the best Italian food I have ever had. We ordered the Garlic loaf, Chicken Limone, Linguine & Meatballs and last but certainly not least, Wild Mushroom Risotto. We finished the night with Tiramisu. Every dish was perfection and packed with flavor. Avanti is AMAZING!
Took my parents here while they were in town and they’re still talking about it. The appetizers are must-order, and the cocktails were spot-on. The staff made us feel like regulars even though it was our first visit.
This restaurant is great. This has become my new favorite spot. The food is great and the service is even better. You can tell they care about what they do. 10/10 would recommend to everyone.
We celebrated our 20th anniversary here and was so pleasantly surprised by the beautifully decorated table and dessert! Very cozy and beautiful restaurant! Food was delicious! I enjoyed my Linguini Pescatore with a generous portion of seafood (even though I would suggest for the Chef a tad more salt and dash of cayenne pepper to the marinara). Hubby loved his Chicken Parmesan! Drinks were great and not too pricy. Our Server Martin was magnificent! Complimentary valet and amazing service makes this restaurant a must do for Dallas visitors and residents.
Unreal food with top tier flavor. The staff and atmosphere made us feel welcome right away. Went for a friend’s birthday and the experience fully lived up to the hype.
Whole atmosphere was top tier, and the food was even better! Enjoyed the Linguini Avanti and recommend it to everyone that comes. Our waiter was amazing and I can’t wait to come back!
Great atmosphere, friendly servers, good food. The escargot was fresh and delicious. The garlic bread is a must. The pear arugula gorgonzola salad was tasty. The beef tenderloin over fettuccini with a mushroom demi-glace was fantastic. The Brussels sprouts were over cooked, but that was likely the only downside to the meal.
I had such a great experience! Had a late dinner, super great way to end the night. The service, cocktails, appetizers and entrees were all amazing. Good sized portions too, I got the chicken parm, ceasar salad, garlic bread & ravioli for appetizers. Had a phenomenal Martini while we waited for our table and had some chardonnay with the dinner. Wish I took pictures, I'll definitely be going back. The fact that its in Uptown is also a huge plus.. walking distance to other little bars around if you want to extend your night. Nice cozy atmosphere as well.. seems like a place you could do date night, take your family or even do a solo dinner at the bar.
Incredible food and amazing service! The live music was wonderful, being loud enough to enjoy but quiet enough to still have easy conversations with my party. The special was surf and turf. The steak was cooked and seasoned perfectly. The menu isn't huge, but has great options for everyone.
It was a Friday night and one hour before close time but I loved everything about my experience there. The server was very hospitable. He explained the menu and helped me make a choice. Food was awesome and tasty. A little pricey but that works for the value you get. They gave us hot bread as we waited. The ambience of the restaurant is beautiful. I loved the setting. I love the candle and rose flower idea decor. Perfect for a date night. There was a singer in the corner playing soft tunes on his guitar. I would definitely come back here. Absolutely beautiful. Overall experience was 5star
Avanti was one of my favorite experiences at an Italian restaurant. Everything was pretty much perfect. The staff was friendly helpful and very attentive. The food was beautifully presented and as fresh as you can get. The pasta was delicious. The beef was so tender you can cut it with a butter knife. Overall it was a perfect first dining experience in Dallas. 6/5 stars if it was possible.
Celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary with our kids and their spouses a week before Christmas at Avanti. Best choice! CJ, the manager, was so accommodating. The food and service were excellent! And the ambiance was absolutely perfect! Going back next year for our 51st! Mr and Mrs RCF
Absolutely incredible evening tonight here at Avanti! Dinner was phenomenal, the wine selection was incredible, and the atmosphere is perfect. HUGE credit to Peyton who took care of us tonight. She made sure everything was perfect and it was. This restaurant is an absolute must if you want quality Italian food in Dallas. I suggest the calamari and chicken Parm. I can not wait to come back! 10/10
Great service and a really quaint restaurant; Peyton was awesome! Restaurant looks totally different inside to out, has nice decor and overall a great atmosphere. Live music began at 7 as we were leaving but would have loved to have stayed for it, too. Big recommendation would be the Tiramisu!
I have been wanting to go to this restaurant for a long while and I’m only sad that I didn’t go sooner. Came here with my husband and friends and it was a superb experience. From the moment we walked and we got a whiff of delicious smells and were welcomed with a festive and bustling environment. We got drinks at the bar and the bartender was very friendly and got our drinks very quickly. We didn’t wait long for our table either and the waitress was nice and cheerful and there was a live musician, seems that this is the case every night. The food was absolutely delicious. All of it. We got the garlic loaf that came with the unique tomato sauce and we also got the meatballs for appetizer, superb. For entrées our group ordered the carbonara, fettuccine Diablo, chicken, Limon, and chicken Parm. All very tasty. Will absolutely come back to this restaurant in the future.
I recently had the absolute pleasure of attending a small reunion dinner at Avanti Restaurant in Dallas, and I can honestly say — it was perfect from start to finish. Our table was ready on time, tucked into a cozy corner where we could catch up comfortably, but still feel the energy of the restaurant. Every dish we ordered was spot on. We started with the Wild Mushroom Risotto, which was rich, creamy, and perfectly portioned to share. The Tagliatelle Bolognese had the kind of depth you only get from a long-simmered sauce, and the Chilean Sea Bass was a table favorite — buttery, flaky, and beautifully plated. Dessert? The tiramisu was a dream — light, just sweet enough, and a perfect ending to the meal. We paired everything with a bottle of Italian red recommended by our server, and it complemented the food flawlessly. Would definitely recommend 10/10 staff and food.
Avanti is a total gem in Dallas! The vibe is cozy and romantic with live music that makes it feel special. The food was amazing — the crab-crusted sea bass and pasta were spot on, and the garlic loaf is a must. Service was top notch, super friendly and attentive without rushing us. A little pricey, but worth every penny for the quality and experience. Can’t wait to go back
Absolutely love this place!! We recently celebrated my brother’s birthday and anniversary dinner here, and it was nothing short of amazing. The atmosphere is quiet and relaxing, with just the right touch of old-school Italian charm that makes it feel special without being over the top. It’s an intimate setting that creates a truly enjoyable and unique dining experience. I've dined here several times, and it continues to impress. Their house-made Caesar salad stands out where others fall short—authentic and full of flavor. The handmade pasta is a highlight, taking everything up a notch, and their thoughtful selection of Italian wines is the perfect complement if you’re looking to enjoy the full experience. This place has been a favorite of mine for a while now. The service is consistently outstanding, and the quality of the ingredients and preparation is always on point, especially given the reasonable pricing. Whether you're celebrating something special or just want a great meal, it’s a fantastic choice.
It’s not uncommon for me to visit venues more than once before sharing a Lorenzo Buttram Hubbard review. Maybe I’m popping in on a night that isn’t a true reflection of the whole experience. Every Avanti visit has been as amazing as the last; consistency is key! Although under new ownership it’s apparent from the smiles on the happy regular’s faces, Avanti has maintained the bisou charm and amazing cuisine their patrons and yours truly adore! On the right night the audience can range from locals, adventurous tourist, and sophisticated connoisseurs of wine. I love a Sunday night at the bar with friends, or clients sharing wonderful stories with their seasoned bartender Craig, who’s never short on laughs, Oenology, and stimulating conversation. Sharing is Caring! Bottles of wine are half price on Sundays, they have live sounds, and yes, they do have valet! Can’t wait to share time with you at Avanti. Xoxo Lorenzo!
Quiet, relaxing w just enough old school Italiano vibe in a not too large setting to create an enjoyably unique experience. I’ve enjoyed dinner here several times and appreciate their house made Caesar where others are not authentic, and I love that they have a handmade pasta offering to really dial it up a notch. They also have an interesting choice of vinos from Italy to round off ur meal in good order if ur interested in going all in. They have been a favorite of mine for for awhile now as the service has been superb and the quality of ingredients and prep has been consistently spot on w their price points. Plan to Uber or valet in the evenings. Enjoy in style.
My fiancé and I recently enjoyed the Date Night special on Wednesdays. The deal includes a bottle of wine, an appetizer, two entrees and dessert. Everything was delicious, but the shrimp scampi pasta was a particular standout. The restaurant itself is quite elegant, and the live musician added to the ambiance. Our service was excellent and we cannot wait to return.
5 stars across the board. The glowing feedback from others is all true. Finally made my way to Avanti with a group of friends and it truly lives up to the reputation. Exquisitely cozy and inviting ambience. With some beautiful live guitar serenading the guests, the stage is set for a wonderful dining experience. Drinks, appetizers and main course were all delivered at perfectly spaced intervals. My group ordered a number of dishes and they were all outstanding. I had the clam linguine with a side of the garlic loaf. Wow! I will be back again very soon!
First timers. Wife’s birthday. Could not have picked a better Italian restaurant for celebrating this special occasion. From the moment we entered the establishment, we were greeted very nicely. Nice ambience, with live music. Wife enjoyed her chicken Parmesan, while I had their Thursday special, veal. Our waitress (Salem) was super attentive throughout the evening, explained the meal items while making recommendations. Just a fabulous dining experience.
This place is SO good! I got the crab crusted sea bass which was the best sea bass I have ever had. So fresh and perfectly cooked! My mom got the seafood ravioli which was amazing as well. The mussels appetizer is phenomenal, and their garden salad was tasty as well with balsamic vinegar. I got their “chef’s choice” special dessert which was Italian Cream Cake tonight. Perfection! The wait staff (CJ) and manager were so friendly and kept in contact with us throughout the dinner - everything was perfect! The vibe in here is awesome and the decorations are lovely. My only wish is if they had a real mock-tail menu.
Went here with a couple of friends for a girls night out and everything was amazing. For those worried about parking (I always am when on this side of Dallas!), the restaurant offers free valet parking. The restaurant itself is small and quaint, definitely good for a romantic night out with the mood lighting and the live music (the music isn't too distracting either because it's all acoustic). Because the tables are close though, you will have to talk above the noise so keep that in mind. We had a few cocktails at the bar before being sat at our table and they were really good - shout out to our bartender Emma who gave such amazing recommendations on the menu and really broke down everything for us! When we sat down at the table we then started with the Avanti Garlic Loaf, Calamari Fritti, and a Greek Salad to share. The drinks and the apps tasted great, the Calamari was perfectly cooked and not too chewy, the bread had a lot of flavor, and the Greek Salad was really good. For mains we had the Chicken Limone, the Fettuccine Avanti, and the Carbonara. All of the dishes were really good but my Carbonara was the star for everyone. I had subbed the Farfalle for Angel Hair pasta and had some extra carbonara sauce to add to the dish and it was so delicious 🤤 The medallions that came with the Fettuccini Avanti were also well cooked and very tender. The Chicken was really good as well, not too over done but juicy with flavor. For dessert we had the Creme Brûlée and the Peanut Butter Chocolate Pie. The Creme Brûlée was amazing, just the right rich consistency. The Pie was good as well but it was very thick and rich - you definitely have to share that because it's hard to finish on your own. The Pie wasn't really my favorite but that's only because I'm not much of a chocolate person - but everyone else liked it but again, it was just very rich. I've had this restaurant saved for some time now as a really good Italian restaurant to try in the metroplex and I was not disappointed! Would definitely love to come back again for dinner.
I chose this restaurant to celebrate my birthday. Upon arrival we were greeted by staff outside and inside. The atmosphere was great. I loved the nice music. There was a guy there playing the guitar live...that was great. It was our first time there and I really appreciated the waiter patience and taking the time to explain the menu and drinks. One negative was that it was super busy and the restaurant is a little on the small side, so it was pretty tight in there. So our food came and everything looked great. The food was hot and presentation was great. One negative my husband ordered lamb chops and they tasted burnt...charred. However, the stuffed mushrooms were tasty and my parmesan chicken was wonderful. My birthday dessert was the key lime pie and it was perfect. I love key lime pie, so I was not disappointed. Overall, I would give this place another visit in the future and recommend it to others. Very affordable.
We went on a Thursday night around 6:45p with no wait for a table. The ambiance is romantic-low lighting with soft music in the background- and the service was top notch-never had an empty glass of water and waitress knowledgeable about menu items. However, though beautifully plated, our dishes were mediocre in taste. My bolognese and my boyfriend’s clam linguine just lacked flavor. The calamari and bread appetizers were more flavorful but came out luke warm and a bit soggy. My drink was tasty and priced to match. After inquiring about our feelings on the dishes, the waitress removed my dish from the bill. Really wanted the food to match the ambiance because it’s so close by and a cute date night spot, but,for the price, we will be going elsewhere for our Italian fix.
Subject: Quick Question About the LBW Tax Hi there – Had dinner with a couple friends last night — food was awesome, no complaints there. But I do have a quick question about something on our bill: We were charged $15.72 in “LBW TAX TAX.” Can you explain what exactly that is? I tried reaching out to the Texas Comptroller’s Office, but it’s a holiday today, so I figured I’d ask you first. Appreciate any insight — just want to understand what we’re being charged for. Thanks!
The food was good. The waiter thought it was funny when he used some elaborate maneuver to bring my daughter's ravioli to the table. Most of the ravioli slid off the plate, scalding sauce landed on my arm, the tomato sauce stains still haven't come out of my clothes. The compensation was a free dessert. Not nearly adequate in my mind. Also, the atmosphere is very loud. Not a great place if you want to enjoy a quiet meal.
We’ve been loyal customers of Avanti for well over a decade, celebrating countless special occasions and anniversaries here. The food has always been exceptional, and the ambiance consistently warm and relaxing, which is why this evening’s experience was so disappointing. While the past couple of visits felt a bit “off” in terms of service, tonight was the worst we’ve experienced. We waited 20–25 minutes (each time) before even seeing our server, who repeatedly left to sit and socialize with a group of male customers on the patio rather than checking on us. Our salads arrived after 44 minutes, and our entrées after more than an hour. When we finally asked for our check and requested our food to go, she kindly packed it, but then disappeared again to the patio. I had to get up and go to the bar myself to request the check. Only then did someone in a polo shirt approach her to let her know we were still waiting, well past closing time. This was truly disappointing after so many years of memorable experiences here and several positive google reviews. Amin M., we genuinely miss seeing you and the level of care and attentiveness you’ve always maintained. It’s noticeable that the subpar experiences we’ve had recently were during times when you weren’t here. We hope to see you again the next time we return.
I ordered the crab crusted sea bass to go and my Parmesan was MOLDED. I called and emailed with no response and once I called again a couple days later I was brushed off and was told it that the blue color was the Parmesan wheel wax and I asked for a photo to prove it and they never replied. If your ingredients aren’t fresh then this establishment cannot be trusted. Will never return.
Talk about disappointing. I am convinced Texans have no idea what Italian food is supposed to taste like. I had high hopes for this restaurant as it had excellent reviews online. I took my dad here to celebrate his birthday. The atmosphere was great and the waitress was very sweet and personable, but the food was just edible. It had very little flavor and the pasta was overcooked. My dad order the Bolognese. I tried it and it was boring and overcooked. It was like child cooked it. I ordered the sea bass, which was the waitress' favorite menu item and also one of the more expensive entrees on the menu. It was so bland! I can make better Italian food at home and save $100. As a New Yorker, I just can't believe how wrong Texas gets Italian food.
It was great to go to Avanti in uptown after a long time. I used to go to the Addison location every Thursday for years before they closed years ago. Good cocktails, nice live music, great food and the amazing hospitality of Jack and his daughter. But this last weekend I left a little surprised and disappointed as I left before the dessert. We started with dry cappuccinos, calamari, some and some salad. All perfect. Then we ordered the lamb and the chef special seafood. Again the garlic bread and butter and the main entrees were great. However the server spilled the gravy from the seafood platter on my jacket, my phone and the chair to my left where I had placed my jacket after taking it off for the dinner. Things happen so I was not too harsh about it and cleaned what I could see from my seat. The server didn’t offer much help because most likely he was shaken by the incident. Obviously he didn’t do it on purpose. But my disappointed came from the fact that no manager on duty made it to our table to look at what has happened. I was further disappointed when I took off my jacket when I made it home and saw all the mess that I had missed since I couldn’t see it from where I was sitting. I was even more disappointed that even I couldn’t see it, the server and the manager could clearly see it as I turned to leave since it was on the back of my jacket. I have made a video of the mess on the back of my jacket since I had already cleaned the front and collar area of the jacket, and my phone cover. I always thought Avanti was better than this in customer service. This was a big let down.
I had a first date here last week, which our waiter took advantage of, and am writing this review on his behalf (my very well-dressed date). He left a $60 tip in cash that I watched him put into the black pocket of the bill, which our waiter pretended not to get. He had the audacity to come back to our table and accuse him of not leaving a tip, applying social pressure on him in front of me to get even more money out of him. It may have worked on him (he got $100), but not me. His name is Mario.
