What a great experience. Went on a Wednesday afternoon, and the service was very quick. Both youg ladies we interacted with were super-friendly, and were very nice and accommodating. Food was very good. If you're thinking about making a trip down to Danbury for a meal.... you won't be disappointed.
Excellent food, and great service. We don't live there, so it's a treat for us when we get to go. Every time we are in Danbury, we want to eat there.
Very busy as suspected, but got service right away.very polite waitress, Received our meal quicker than I would have thought due to the crowd. Overall, Great Great Experience..Definitely coming back .
The shrimp are always awesome here. Be hungry if you order the 12 shrimp and baked potato. Don't forget to eat a dessert
A large group of ladies from my church ate here last Saturday at 4:00. We were able to enjoy the visit, because we could hear each other talk. The service was really very good. I had the Fried Shrimp basket, but substituted grilled veggies for Fr. Fries. They were very flavorful, tender but not mushy, a large amount. I will return the 30 miles to do this again with family. Thanks.
My wife and I were in the Danbury area and decided to stop to eat at Filipp's Cafe. Their food and service were excellent. If you can't make up your mind what to order, I recommend the turf and surf (ribeye steak and shrimp). Awesome experience!
It's almost unfair to say I prefer to eat at this location vs. other restaurants that might be closer to me and serve the same food as this place. This location used to deliver food Monday through Friday to our chemical plant in the area years ago. Nevertheless, the food here is always good regardless of what's on the menu anytime I'm passing through on the highway about 7 or 8 times a year. I always take about a 5 minute detour off Hwy 35 to go have a good meal and satisfy my appetite. They serve you good size portions on the "specials" that always include a small dessert. Very little has changed on their menu over the years. So basically, Mondays are the chicken fried chicken day with mashed potatoes & gravy, pinto beans, green pea salad, and cake for dessert. The sides and desserts "might" vary from time to time. Pork chops are served "every other" Tuesday. It is usually served with black eye peas, cabbage, and Mac&cheese and small dessert of their choice. On another Tuesday special they were serving 5 "al Pastor" (shredded and marinated pork)street tacos with cilantro, onions, pinto beans and a small cake for dessert. Mystery Wednesday is what I always call it...Lol...due to the unpredictable changes or picks for the daily "special" over the years on this day. For example, sometimes it is chicken spaghetti or chicken pot pie with fried okra, sometimes sausage, and sauerkraut with pinto beans. Other times, they will serve beef tips with rice or hamburger steak with mashed potatoes and vegetable medley, but can never say for sure. Thursday is "always" chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes & gravy, green beans, corn, and peach cobbler. Thursday evening there might also be a "dinner special" but I will update another time. Friday's lunch special is "always" fried catfish with hush puppies, french fries, coleslaw, and dessert might vary between different cakes or banana pudding. I highly recommend the specials and the large fried shrimp order that is on their menu as well as the hamburger steak on their menu. The fried onion rings are large, crispy, and sweet, and their fried mushrooms are meaty, moist, and flavorful. Their corn nuggets and friend okra will leave you hungry for more. I have never had my appetizers over cooked, burnt, or dry. The atmosphere in this place has an old-school country feel to it and seems to be just the way the locals and outside visitors expected it to be due to its remote location from the big city atmosphere. You will not find the big 5 star delicate cuisine from a fancy 5 star restaurant here but if it's a relaxed atmosphere with good food and friendly service when you are passing through, then this is about as good as it gets away from home.
The fried shrimp is the best on the Gulf coast. Their chicken fried chicken and steak are also very good. They know how to cook great food. We had the blackberry cobbler and ice cream the other night, and it was delicious. I have been eating at Filipps for many years, and I haven't been disappointed.
Heard about this place today. Tried it out today. I had the surf and turf. It was not disappointing. Steak was very well seasoned. Shrimp were perfectly crispy. Two of my kids had frog legs. They were so happy to find out a place near by made them and served them. We had the peach cobbler dessert. The crispy pie tasted like a cookie. Two of us had root beer floats that were humongous. definitely will be back. I can’t wait for our next experience. 10 out of 10❤️ I definitely recommend. Aka Pinto Bean
I had a wonderful experience at Filli Tea! The atmosphere was cozy, and the drinks were delicious. A special shoutout to Ashraf, the salesperson, who provided exceptional service. He was friendly, attentive, and made our visit even more enjoyable. We had a great time and will definitely be back for more! Highly recommended!"
What a great little place Filipp's IS!! We drive 31 miles for the best CFS, fried fish and fried shrimp we know of! Great staff takes care of you and 73 years of serving the public well is why they are a favorite today! Cons: pre-made, refrigerated salads are dry when served, a little wilted sometimes. Shrimp are fried in flour instead of the corn meal we prefer and it's a long way from anywhere but we've loved the place & their servers for decades. The last photo is a REAL reason why... ALL the seafood houses around Galveston Bay will sell you out-of-season, mushy, nasty oysters during the summer with the answer 'everyone thinks they're great!' when you ask. They are NOT. 'Everyone' doesn't know what they're talking about! Oysters also carry more pathogens in the summer water temps along with quality issues annnd Filipp's does not serve them out of season!! Another reason to trust and enjoy their offerings!!💕😋💕 LOVE Filipp's!!
I had the Friday night 5 shrimp special. It came with 5 different types of shrimp (3 of each type and plenty of boiled shrimp) with 2 sides (baked potato, mashed potatoes, or French fries and salad or fried okra). It can easily feed two or do as I did and take home the leftovers for another good meal the next day. Friendly service and great tasting food.
Wonderful little gem in a small town. The food is so good and you get a lot for your money. The only complaint I have is double check your food if you get take out. It doesn’t happen often but sometimes we get shorted on our order.
We stopped at a bakery that specializes in klobasniky, but they were unexpectedly closed. A local suggested Filipp's Cafe instead. . The food was top notch. We both had biscuits and gravy, with coffee. I added bacon and hashbrowns. Instead of hashbrowns, I was served those 1/2" breakfast potatoes. We overheard our waitress apologize for the substitution at an adjacent table: they were out of hashbrowns. We received no such apology nor explanation. . I gather the adjacent table was a local while we were not. When their food arrived, they asked for pancakes as well, which arrived in about 3 minutes. In contrast, our meal took easily 15 minutes to arrive. . The slow arrival of our food was the only real negative. The service was fine, and the food that was delivered was fantastic.
This was really happy with the taste of the chicken... but felt the "Swiss Cheese" was actually American cheese... and was sparing of the mushrooms and onions. Onion rings had no flavor... very bland. Good if that's what you like. It was $12.99 for this dish Very friendly crew. Nice atmosphere.
I'll start first with the food. I ordered six shrimp and four catfish fillets. The shrimp I ordered tastes very fresh which was a good thing, but, absolutely no flavor in this batter. The same can be said with the fish fillet which was breaded in cornmeal. Also the fish it seems like it was Frozen thawed out fish ,which was kind of rubbery on the inside and very thin, I would say about 80% batter and about 20% actual fish. Now for the service: when you walk in there's a sign that says seat yourself. Which is what I did. I have to wait in a couple minutes the young girl came up to me and asked me what I wanted to drink. As I was sitting down several more people walked in mostly locals. These individuals were greeted with a smile how you doing, and immediately got there drinks. After waiting close to 8 to 10 minutes and other people put in the orders, the waitress finally came up to me and said are you ready to order yet in a very rude way. I didn't let her ruin my lunch. Even though it didn't seem that the people around me wanted me in that restaurant. But I sat down to eat my food anyway , out of spite.☺
