Opinions de Dos Coyotes Border Cafe Davis
Grew up in Davis and have been going here for over two decades. Food still tastes fresh and the salsa bar is still the best I’ve tried ever tired. Don’t live in Davis anymore but whenever I pass through town, will always try to stop by for food or take out. Southwest chicken burrito is my goto but the salads and nachos are highly recommended as well. In fact, never had a bad dish here and so much better value than Chipotle.
Great food easy parking fair price
Big lipped Toni needed a ride back to Davis so I told her I be happy to give her a ride if she'd spot for lunch at Dos Coyotes Border Cafe! She had performed her specialty act at the country club here in Napa for the Beavers, an organization of very large contractors here for their yearly wing-ding. She told me that she left them stunned and amazed...But, not as amazed as I was by the Quesadilla from Dos Coyotes Border Cafe! It was Spectacular! ☆☆☆☆☆
Staff was great! Very quick turnaround on our order
Great place for family or meet-ups with friends, lots of tables with great atmosphere. Shrimp tacos, salmon burritos, and Mahi Mahi tacos are terrific! Fresh ingredients and made to order upon demand. Daily specials and alcohol are available. I truly enjoy this restaurant!
I love this place so much. I've been going here for 10+ years (either their Roseville/Davis locations). My go to order is the Chicken Adobe salad with a wheat tortilla. Their salads are bigger than your head and so freaken good! I love their salsa bar too. I now live in Oakland, but when I come back to the area I always grab a bite here or something to go. I need to have my Dos!!
Met my buddy here for lunch today. It was the best Mexican food I've ever had! I had two steak tacos, rice & beans. Mexican rice I've had at other restaurants was just OK. But I actually look forward to coming back here to eat some more of this excellent food!
I love the food here, it is the only thing I crave when I leave for extended periods but my experience lately has been with my parents. It is so rare to go to any restaurants where someone will take the time to listen to 25 questions and not just listen but pay attention and treat you with patience and kindness. Thank you Mateer for being literally the best part of our day and for always being so wonderful with complicated orders and treating my parents as if they were your own. You made a huge impression on my family and I'm so grateful.
We ate at the Dos Coyotes in Davis on Cowell BLVD with a party of 25 people. The service was excellent and the food was amazing. Eric, the manager was very helpful and determined to make this a great experience. He definitely succeeded. We will be back!
I used to eat here ages ago when going to UCD, its still amazing.. nice to see something in this world that stays good. I wish they would open up one in bay area, but I always stop when going to tahoe! its great, jsut go, nothing to over think here.
Food was very good and the people that worked there were very friendly
I grew up in Davis and have been a longtime patron (since they opened in 1991). In all this time, yesterday may have been my most memorable and fun visit yet (thank you to an employee named Olin). With an intention to share a few tacos and leave, Olin has excellent plate and drink recommendations. We stayed much longer than expected because we were enjoying the visit so much. One of the highlights? They brought back their green avocado salsa and it’s as delicious as ever. Show up for Olin and stay for the green sauce, haha. Way to knock it out of the park Dos, you are truly aged to perfection.
Super fast and super easy, I love dos coyotes.
If I could give more stars I would! The food here is out of this world incredible. My family and I live 2 hours out of Davis and stop by here on the way too and from Tahoe whenever we go ski in the winter. I’m vegetarian and my go to is the loaded potato tacos (the tostada salad is also incredible and comes on a huge tortilla). I’ve probably gotten the tacos over 10 times and they are the exact same every time. Potatoes are thinly cut, the cheese is perfectly crispy, and the cabbage slaw covering the entire taco is to die for! The salsa bar is also full of incredibly delicious and fresh salsa of multiple varieties. Debating going to college in Davis just so I can eat here every week!
Was looking for a place to grab a bite while charging friend’s car. Pleasant place, quick service, big portions and delicious food. Our group tried: salad with strawberry (enormous serving), soup, burrito, tacos and quesadillas. We were not able to finish salad and quesadillas, so grabbed to go boxes. All in all recommending this place!
Dos is worth a try if you haven’t!! Most people I know refer to it as a texmex style. Unique flavors. The pictures are of the Yucatán chicken salad, Caesar salad and Ranchero Burrito . Everything on the menu is fabulous. I have only been to the Davis and Elk Grove locations and the staff are always great. I also recommend the Santa Fe nachos! I am in love with the chipotle bbq sauce. I always ask for extra! They have a unique salsa bar. Love all of the different flavors of salsa. What’s not to love about Dos?!?! We eat there at least once a week.
Overall, the food is excellent. The salsa bar is impressive due to its wide variety and authentic Mexican flavor.
A couple nights ago I asked my husband “what’s the one restaurant you’d go to in Davis if you wanted to guarantee it would be good every time” we both agreed on Dos! They’re handling the pandemic so well! We call to order and pay on pick up, we love having it at home or at the park nearby but man do I miss the slaw and pickled veggies from the salsa bar!! I really hope that salsa bars are able to come back in a post Covid world! It was my absolute favorite! My absolute go to here is the Yolo mango burrito, recently I started swapping out the chicken for black beans! It’s super tasty this way! Occasionally I’ll literally just order the rice and beans for my lunch! $6 and I’m full!! Oh and on a day that I’m feeling really naughty I really love their chips! I like to break and dip mine in the salsa and then shove them in the burrito for a nice crunch 🤣
Order at the counter. Huge menu. Some alcoholic drinks but not a full bar. Mai Tais and Margheritas in bottles. Their guacamole is fresh and delicious. I had the green chile enchiladas with chicken and couldn't stop eating. So full!!! Hubby had chicken tacos and was pleased.
WE LOVE DOS COYOTES! My family and I are from San Jose but every time we go to Tahoe (or pass remotely close to Dos Coyotes) we stop there (on the way to and from our destination!) the loaded potato tacos are to die for and haven’t found anywhere else serving something remotely close. If you are nearby or this is on your way, stop here! You won’t regret it. 🌮
I just wanted to give a shout out for the manager Olin who went above and beyond to make our visit amazing. Olin is always out helping everyone and speaking to all his customers. He really wants to make sure everyone is satisfied with their food and their service.
Have been going here when I’m visiting the area for the last 20 years and the taste and quality has remained the same. It’s not “real” Mexican, but I would describe it more like Texmex - delicious nonetheless. Their salsa bar is excellent. Mahi mahi burrito is a favorite along with their chicken wet burrito.. and their salads are good with huge portions.
Dos is almost always guaranteed to satisfy. The menu is thoughtful around TexMex—I usually order the paella burrito with it's large sausage and prawn filling; albeit this time around I ordered the Frito pie off of their seasonal menu. Delicious!

We had enchiladas and crispy tacos, which were delicious. The guacamole and salsas are all excellent. Service is fast and incredibly considerate. I failed to ask about removing an allergen, but when the food arrived and I noticed my blunder, they took the food away immediately and remade it. They're environmentally conscientious: glass cups and paper condiments cups rather than plastics. Food is beautiful on the plate :)
We had the fajitas and the mango chicken burrito. Both were fresh and fantastic. Staff were friendly, but dealing with a lot of to go orders on Saturday night. We didn’t mind the wait as they have a nice salsa bar and reasonably priced margarita.
Our table of 5 enjoyed a delicious variety of entrees and drinks. The guacamole was unforgettable.
Was tired of getting gouged at Guads on Mace ($18 for a burrito??) and was pleasantly suprised at how fair the prices were especially given the Convenient location. I have been twice in three days now and both times the service and excellent fare / food left me grinning and regretting driving by so many times before trying them out. Thank you Coyotes!

I haven't been here for a while. I was pleasantly surprised that the burritos now have the option to order as a bowl. Easier to eat and lower calories. The bowl was good, and the portion was generous. The tortilla chips really tasted off (old oil going bad?) and left a oily feel in my mouth. I would return but not eat the chips :-(
I ordered 1 steak, 1 pork, 1 chicken, 1 cheese enchilada with red sauce and double rice. Food was prepared and served perfectly. Great taste excellent food, missing a hint of the New Mexico hatch chili heat. Otherwise perfect. Fair price, excellent portions. I had 2 dinner plates fyi. Only missing item in my opinion is lack of kokopelli decor - for New Mexican Authenticity
The food was good. The person who took my order was very nice. I got chicken tacos and a spinach, garlic, and cheese quesadilla with chicken. I spent about $26 on those two items plus a drink. Would I go back to this restaurant? Yeah. But I wouldn't go out of my way to go here. It's a very good restaurant though. I did enjoy it.
Healthy options, generous portion size, consistent quality. Food usually takes a very long time though... You will wait until you starve if you come in very hungry. Sometimes I placed order and went shopping at Safeway when I was back the food was still not ready 😂
The chicken burrito was good and added the hot salsa for a little kicker.. It wasn't super hot. The Guac and chips hit the spot. overall fairly clean and nice seating inside.
Tasty food, awesome vibe and nice portions of food.
Great food, generous portions, and wonderful salsa bar. I complain about the prices in my head but to be honest they are one of the only places that did small increases and kept up the food quality.
Our first time to this location, as we recently moved to Davis. I'm disabled and use a walker and it was a bit of a struggle getting through the line, getting salsa, and moving around with the tight spaces. Nothing against the college students that work there, but the young man behind the counter taking our order seemed a bit bothered and put off when I asked a lot of questions about their drinks. And nobody offered to help us carry our drinks, etc to our table. We got our chips and guacamole right away, and the chips were okay, but the guacamole needed more flavor. Our meals were delicious, I loved my enchiladas, but the rice and beans were a bit bland and I had to put salsa on them. My boyfriend's Santa Fe Nachos were amazing. Will we come back? Maybe. There are lots of other Mexican restaurants to try here in Davis.

Every thing is fine except: why non-alcoholic beer offered? Modello makes one of the best!
Great place to people watch🤣 hubby mentioned the fish had no flavor to it, like it was frozen then cooked/boiled from left over water in the fish, just very bland. My shredded beef tacos were great though, plus the rice and black beans were full of flavor. The college staff were attentive and polite, keping the tables clean.

Like everywhere else, it's hard to get a "thank you" when giving this business cash. A solid "your welcome" coming from the staff is long gone when thanking an employee for food served to the table. Must just be the new way. It may be a bit longer until I get hungry enough to go back here. Once upon a time this was my favorite restaurant in town. Now it is only a memory of what it once was. They used to appreciate their customers. I remember those times long ago.
PROS: Clean, good ambiance, friendly staff, good salsa bar. CONS: 2 out of 5 dishes were overcooked. I am not a fan of places that ask for tip upfront, the service at the theble is never good.

How does a NorCal restaurant not have solid vegan options in 2024? I'm grateful that the staff accommodated me when I came with my work colleagues, but there was a lot of "vegan by omission": take the veggie burrito, remove the cheese and sour cream. Oh, they can't do the black beans because they're cooked in butter. They can't even do the fajita veggies by default because they're also cooked in butter--it's a special order. The result was bland and uninspired. I would love to see this chain put in even a modicum of effort. How about a fried cauliflower burrito with cashew crema sauce? Or a three-bean chili with chimichurri sauce?
I was looking forward to trying this restaurant and was extremely disappointed and displeased. The beans were probably the best thing I had. The enchiladas and rice were lacking any good flavor. The atmosphere was great, I loved the decor but it’s not enough to come back.

Greasy, greasy chips. So saturated with oil it was running off onto the napkin. Couldn't lift salsa without the chip breaking apart. Disgusting. This shouldn't have been served.
Literally, 3 people got their food before us despite ordering 15 minutes ago. No bueno! Going to Chipotle next time!!!
This review is specifically for to go orders from this location. A bunch of us wanted to come here for lunch but since there was no seating we decided to get our food to go. It took almost 30 minutes to get our food (I got a fajita salad. It was soggy/mushy and not worth the 12-13 price tag. Maybe it would taste better if you ate in, but for better to-go salads, I'd stick to plutos or Jack's Urban eats.
