Chef Payne is truly an artist in his craft. Everything was absolutely perfect, right down to dessert. started with the MASSIVE charcuterie board with everything you could possible imagine on it. Then came the DELICIOUS corn chowder, followed by the restaurant’s absolutely divine château Brion with the roasted chicken, potatoes and carrots. Dessert was a choice but i went with banana cream pie which i of course had to take home to enjoy later. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough! what a fantastic experience.
This place is booked out at least 2 weeks so plan accordingly but make no mistake definitely worth the wait. We showed up at 10 minutes to 6:00 for the 6:00 seating the place was half empty within 10 minutes every seat was occupied. We were greeted by John who absolutely loves his job as front of the house. Our party of six was seated straight away we had pre-ordered the Chateaubriand as it seems did everyone else in the place from two tops to a 12 top. The shrimp cocktail appetizer and the fresh mozzarella tomato roasted red pepper appetizer were both big hits, John's homemade cocktail sauce lives up to his boast. "It ain't bragging if it's true!" The Chateaubriand is it's own experience, all my description won't do it justice so just try it. Service was on point, observant, professional, smiling, energetic, fueled by John's front man guidance and leadership. The team made it look easy to serve food and drink to a packed dining floor. Piece of cake..which brings me to dessert..chocolate mayo cake-yes...cheesecake-yes...tiramisu-yes.From start to finish, this is how going out for steak dinner should be done. Enjoy
Shared dinner with my family, finally, The Bears never disappoints. We shared the Chateaubriand and as usual the entire meal was amazing. The service and staff are the greatest, love coming to this place.
Amazing food and fabulous service from the moment we arrived. It was the perfect birthday dinner celebration. From the appetizers to the soup to the Chateaubriand dinner. Delicious!
Chef Payne and his brother Robert really do an amazing job of delivering delicious food made to perfection along with the best hospitality I've witnessed in the industry. I have to say I'm biased as Chef Payne was my Culinary Arts instructor at SCCC some 25+ years ago.
BE AWARE: you best come hungry to the Bear's Steakhouse. Not only is the food plentiful, it is beyond delicious. We had the Chateaubriand and Prime Rib with Jumbo Shrimp and homemade Vegetable Soup to start. The Prime Ribs are approximately 36 ounces EACH. Be prepared to choose your entree when you call to make the reservation. The portions are beyond plentiful. Highly recommend making a reservation ASAP and enjoying this hidden gem!
All of our family and friends love Bears Steakhouse! Chef Payne is an amazing Chef and the Chateaubriand Dinner is the best in the upstate area!! Dessert is homemade and something you at least have to take home! The service is top notch and drinks are always consistently great! 🌟 🍸 🧉 Go and make reservations for you and your loved ones! 🥩🍤🥗🥩
This restaurant is one of the top three I’ve ever been to. The old fashioned menu is simple yet nicely varied. They serve a full menu on Thursdays and Fridays, which includes chateaubriand, prime rib, lamb chops, pork chops, shrimp scampi, etc., and only chateaubriand and prime rib on Saturdays. The appetizers were very flavorful and complemented each other well. We ordered shrimp cocktail, which had huge shrimp and potent cocktail sauce, mozzarella and roasted red peppers, stuffed hot cherry peppers, and smoked salmon. I could’ve eaten two of each. Then came the soup or salad. You’re a fool if you eat meat and order the salad instead of the beef soup. It’s arguably the best soup I’ve ever had. Drum roll please 🥁…the chateaubriand…don’t let the simplistic presentation and “boiled dinner” appearance trick you, which belie the wonderful flavors of the sweet carrots, roasted potatoes, and most succulent beef tenderloin that you can literally cut with just a fork. In fact the only two utensils I used were the soup spoon and fork. The cherry on top was the banana cream pie. I’m no connoisseur of banana cream pie, but it was good, albeit unnecessary at that point in the meal. I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention our server extraordinaire and 3rd generation owner Bobby, who was very attentive and great at upselling. Don’t question him. Just nod and say yes please. Not to come off as pretentious, but this place doesn’t even have a menu for their food, so price can be of no concern if you make a reservation. Just be prepared to open your wallet if you eat there, but I guarantee that you won’t be disappointed!
We were there to celebrate a 45th Wedding Anniversary. The appetizers, soup, and entree were incredible. The special occasion homemade lemon mousse cake, homemade cheesecake with caramel, coconut cream pie and chocolate cake were other worldly. John, our Server, (Owner) was amazing, attentive, fun and couldn’t have done more to ensure a delightful and memorable dining experience. The staff were all great, too. We took food and deserts home. There were seven of us! Why have we not been here before???!!!
The Chateaubriand was perfectly cooked. You get a lot of beef. Between my wife and mom we ate about 6-7 slices (me eating the most). I weighed our beef leftovers when I got home and it was over 2 pounds 😂. It was perfect for leftovers the next day with home-made rice and shrimp scampi. On a side note my wife has hosted an event here for 30 people and the guests loved it. Kudos to this family for such an amazing restaurant for multiple generations.
Bear Steakhouse came across my radar when I was searching steakhouses located in Upstate New York. The majority of customers/reviewers gave the establishment positive remarks. Being a skeptic, I decided to reserve a table and see what the rave was about. The inside of the restaurant is reasonably smaller compared to other steakhouses that I have been to. However, this is beneficial to the customers, as the staff is able to tend to everyone's needs. Both the waiter and waitress were very familiar with the menu. Being a new guest myself, I welcomed their recommendations. During my time at Bear Steakhouse, I had the Fresh Mozzarella with Roasted Peppers and Tomatoes, the Beef and Vegetable Soup, and the Prime Rib. All three plates were very delicious and they arrived to the table in a spread out time. This was good as it allowed the time to enjoy and digest every dish. Although I didn't have enough room for dessert, I did order the Tiramisu to go. This also did not disappoint. In the end, I'll admit that the reviewers were not exaggerating when they posted their stories about Bear Steakhouse. I look forward to my next meal here.
This was our first time going and I'm not sure how to even describe the experience. Everything over amazing is a understatement. We had the chateaubriand dinner for four. Appetizers soup and salad. Had to bring dessert home with big portions of left overs. 5 stars dosent justify the entire experience. We had john for our server and again. 5 stars isn't close. He was fantastic and made the experience that much more fulfilling. Absolutely found our new long-term favorite place for dinner. MAKE RESERVATIONS IMMEDIATELY IF YOU HAVEN'T ALREADY! Bears steakhouse thank you all for a wonderful dinner and time.
The service earned this restaurant it's 3 stars. Otherwise, it would have been lower. So, let's start there. The service was absolutely phenomenal. Honesty, this was the most attentive service I have ever experienced, but it wasn't at all intrusive. Now to the food. We started with the fresh mozzarella plate. It tasted good, but the plate was a mess. It was sliced mozzarella and tomatoes accompanied by roasted red peppers, chickpeas, salt olives, diced raw onion, and random pirates of canned artichoke leaves, laying in leaves of lettuce. We chose the beef and vegetable soup as part of our entree, and it was delicious but a little salty. It was also light on vegetables, but still very good. For dinner, we chose the chateaubriand (the other option was prime rib). It came out over cooked for that cut of meat. They didn't ask how we wanted it, so when the waiter came back, we asked how it was intended to be. He said medium rare. Ours was medium well too well. He toom our plate and returned rather quickly with a medium rare replacement. Now to the dish itself. The chateaubriand had no sear, im guessing it was done completely in the oven. I've never had it like this, and im not a fan. The sides it came with were halvex potatos and carrots. It felt like a $137 pot roast. Overall, it was boring and not something I would go out for again. The price rating is correct. it's $100+ per person. I've been to other steakhouses in this price range, which provided a significantly better experience with respect to the food. Again, the wait staff was phenomenal.
Atmosphere was great and our waiter was amazing I went with my family of six mid December 2025 and to spend a whopping $1000 for what we got … I’m sorry not worth it we got the chateau meat wasn’t that good over seasoned however our potatoes and carrots were still hard and had no seasonings ….. shrimp cocktail was decent we all enjoyed the deserts ….so overall not some place I’d go back to …
