If your looking for authentic Italian, this is the place to go! We had calamari which was excellent, I had the chicken parm and my boyfriend had the eggplant which were both really good! We were a party of 11 so we got family style salad, veggies and roasted potatoes. I would highly recommend you give this place a shot. Wait staff was excellent and house manager even came over to shoot the breeze.
The best. Since the pandemic started, I've had a hard time dealing with restaurants being closed and rude and inpatient staff everyone -- not at Canali's. We went yesterday for some take-out and the staff was so friendly. Our meals were as fantastic as they usually are in the dining room. Nothing beats the quarantine blues like homemade cavatelli, Chicken Marsala and fresh Italian bread that taste like somebody's beloved grandmother cooked. Thank you!
The food is fabulous, we have been going there for generations, from my parents, then when I got married with my family, and now, with my daughter's family and now my granddaughter. We all had a wonderful family dinner and our meals were scrumptious! The wait staff couldn't be any more pleasant, and that makes the dinner more pleasurable. Thank you for helping us celebrate our daughters birthday. Everything was what we wanted it to be. And she used to be one of your very own Hostesses back in her high school and college days and she's always glad to come back for a great meal. Mrs. Kathleen
I ordered off Canalis catering menu for Wife’s birthday about 20 people. You definitely get more than your money’s worth. The food was hot and remained hot for the duration of the drive. My friends and family could not stop raving about how great Canalis food is and how much there was. Their food is excellent. I highly recommend eating in or take out.
Canali's is hands down the best Italian restaurant in the area. If you have the opportunity, don't miss it. I've been going here for years and have never been disappointed no matter the choice of dish.
We ordered catering for 50 people, and it was the talk of the party! Not only was it delicious, but Canali's was able to accommodate a last-minute date change due to weather. Thank you all!!
This was our first time there. Regina, wonderful server, great food, huge portions. We had shrimp scampi with home made pasta, extra charge worth it, and beans and greens, appetizer very good also. Still have enough for a full lunch tomorrow. Prices were consistent with the quality and quantity.
This is one of the best Italian restaurants I’ve ever been to. The portions are huge and the food is really good. Had probably one of the best pieces of chocolate cake in my life here. Service was great as well.
We went last night to celebrate both mine and my boyfriends fathers birthday. Everything was absolutely delicious! The service was wonderful and we most DEFINITELY be going back. Had only been here once before, but other times were great. Thanks so much to everyone who was working last night and had a hand in making our celebratory supper as special as it was. You are all amazingly kind people! Thank you!!!! I'd recommend you to anyone in a heartbeat!!!!
Tried this restaurant for the first time. Loved the bread and the fresh pasta manicotti as well as the two huge meatballs. My boyfriend had the sausage and pepper's which he loved. Never seen him eat so much. I thought the prices were very reasonable and huge portions. The antipasto looked great and will be ordering that next time. Definitely going back!
Everything is done so smoothly, it just flows. The food is awesome, the staff friendly and they do a great job. Highly recommend!
By far the best Italian food in the Capital districtl. Service is always excellent, the presentation is a traditional Italian-American family style restaurant. I've dined here multiple times, have had a different dish every time. Never disappointed. Their cream sauces are phenomenal. Highly recommend all of them.
We had a baby shower July 2024 around 34 people.. Great Service, delicious food and plenty of room ! Plenty of parking. We could not be happier. Highly recommend !
Excellent food. Never have i had a bad meal. Quality and value. Pasta with clam sauce is excellent.
Delicious and authentic. Comfortable dressing up or casual.
Our waitress Julia was an amazing server. Super friendly and recommended some amazing food!
We've never been and the food and service was great. Everyone was friendly and attentive and the prices were really reasonable. Bring your appetite because the portions are very generous. I wound up taking half of my Chicken Parmesan home. All in all a great date night and we plan to come back. Our only complaint was that the butter was refrigerated and difficult to spread. However, it's currently single digit temperatures out and the butter might just be cold because everything is cold, so no points off for us!
Party of 14. Everything we got was wonderful and well timed. Service was spot on and they didn't make us feel rushed out when we lingered a little at closing time to visit. Cost about $40/person with 1/2 of the group getting alcoholic drinks and appetizers, no desserts.
Great place to dine in. Would recommend having a reservation. I didn't have one and we had to wait 15-20 minutes because of it. Very large portions of food. Food was very good. Dessert was very good. Our server was very friendly and attentive as well. Overall, very good experience. They also have a great take-out business if you're looking for food on the go.
My family of 6 went here for dinner tonight after we visited the aquarium. It was delicious. Service was good. We traveled an hour and it was definitely worth it. The portions are huge and prices are good. We all left with leftovers to enjoy again. We will definitely return. Thank you for a great dinner!
Everything was fantastic. I had the eggplant with chicken parm. My son in law had the seafood with muscles, clams, shrimp, and scallops. Both were excellent.
Excellent Italian American Restaurant. Good sauce. Great portions. The NY Strip is so generous, it looks like a roast beef on your plate! The preparation, flavor and quality is second to none! Excellent service and always aim to please their customers. The deserts are outstanding. A hard place to get into on weekends so make reservations. Another one of our favorites!
Our family can’t thank you enough for all the delicious food we got from your catering. Today was an emotional day for us and not having to worry about the luncheon food was a relief. Your portions were more than enough and everyone enjoyed it. Especially the chicken. It was a huge hit. Many thanks again to you and your staff.
Omg the best Italian food I’ve had in all of Nys thus far I had the lasagna my favorite food and my goodness it did not disappoint! I highly recommend delicious food fast service! I had to go to Land Rover to grab my car! I live in Binghamton ny and it’s worth the drive! Can’t wait to drive back for dinner🫶🏽 A+++++++++++++
Our first time dining at Canali's. I had the garlic chicken cutlet and my friend had the chicken marsalla. Both dishes were delicious, and our waitress was friendly, knowledgeable, prompt and unobtrusive. It was a lovely experience.
This place is great. Sauce, heavenly. Everything is cooked perfectly. They get fried haddock right every time! Many years ago the Alfredo was somehow a little better. Today it is a bit saltier and “thick”. But it is still good! Portions? Any dish you order for takeout can feed two. They just do not skimp. The standard side sides — pasta, veggies and potatoes are as good as the entrees. The meatball here is famous. Pasta and meatball can be extraordinary…
Huge portions, amazing flavors, and I never knew chicken could be so juicy and tender! The homemade pasta is a real texture treat, too. And the price was fantastic! An appetizer, 2 dinners, 2 sodas, a dessert, 2-3 meals worth of leftovers, and a generous tip, still under $100!! We will be back for sure!
The food here is delicious, and the portions are very generous. It feels like you are eating at your Italian grandma's house. All of the employees were attentive and friendly. We will definitely be back.
The portions at Canali's are large enough to bring home half your meal to enjoy the next day. Our party of six enjoyed everything we ordered and most of us brought food home. The manicotti is absolutely delicious with tender pasta tubes filled with plenty of cheese, and the meatballs are tasty and huge! The Italian bread is truly Italian bread like my Nanny served with her dinners.
Good food and good service at a good price. The photo is of Seafood Pescatore (shrimp, sea scallops, clams, and muscles in a marinara sauce over linguini) and it is delicious. Their portions are really good, which means you don't go home hungry and there are always enough leftovers for another meal. Call ahead to make reservations since the place is usually busy.
First time ordering as we were given a gift card for Christmas. The food is amazing, the portion sizes are huge. The salad I ordered a large to split with my husband it is HUGE! Will def become a regular customer!! Posting a picture minus my sons chicken parm dinner which he dug into on the way home.
Food was fantastic. No wonder why they won best restaurant.
Wow, Canali's was a truly phenomenal experience. My buddy Logan and I felt so lucky to get Juliana as our waitress. She was an absolute class act and went above & beyond to make our experience excellent. Everything we tried was incredible and we were both genuinely disappointed we didn't have more time or stomach capacity. I can't recommend this place enough, and will definitely visit again.
We had our son and daughter in law's baby shower/reveal party here. The food, service and set-up were all fantastic. I would like to mention the the chocolate chip cookies included with our meal package were the best we have ever eaten! A+ all the way! Thank you to the hostess Angela who was amazing! Canali's staff, thank you so much for making this special day a bit more special for us 😊
My favorite Italian Restaurant hands down - it’s an absolute must every time I’m home visiting. My fave is the Chicken Marolo with the homemade cavatelli omg so good!
This restaurant is amazing. We had driven to Troy from Hartford CT to watch our grandson play hockey and to meet with one of our daughters who lives in Utica to celebrate her birthday. I had made a reservation on Saturday, but somehow it wasn't recorded and there were 9 of us and no table in the dining room where we could be seated. The staff set us up in the banquet hall!! How special that made us feel. Our waitress, Sarah was the best. So patient and friendly. The food was delicious and plentiful. Thank you so much for accommodating us.
I love the take out menu, especially when bringing food to visit my grandma or parents. We all enjoy it much. Service was a little iffy the last time I arrived. I was the only one waiting and waited for a good 10 minutes until one of the young ladies asked me if I needed help. She was so kind. The only issue I had is the wait, when I was the only one there.
I had my daughter’s baptism celebration dinner at Canalis and we were so pleased with how everything turned out. From the food to the service it was exactly what we wanted. I highly recommend the banquet room for your next future event. Thank you Canalis for making my daughter’s special day so amazing.
Across the board great classic Italian. Zero chance you finish your entree because they are huge. But they are delicious. From the bread they start you with, to fresh salad and at a beyond reasonable price. Must go if you haven't been
This restaurant is amazing! We were traveling on the toll road and wanted a restaurant for dinner. We ordered takeout and stopped to get it. The food was incredible! Everything was very well made, sauce on the Marsala was heavenly and the portions were very large. We ordered for a specific time and the food was hot and ready for us on arrival. If we didn’t have to drive 600 miles to get up this place we’d eat here all the time. Schenectady is so lucky to have this place!
Our first time here it was outstanding from the friendly bartender to our waitress. I think the owner Henry came and introduced himself he was so nice everyone was warm and accommodating. the food omg the chicken parm and your sauce was delicious. the cavatelli w tomato in basil cream sauce reminded me of my grandmother so much. The bread 🥖 wow this was a wonderful experience and we will come again keep up the amazing work you all do. Im a very happy customer!!!
Hands down best Italian left in the area. We both got chicken parm. It was the best we have had in the capital district. The clam chowder soup and meatballs were awesome too some of the best we have ever had! We hope the owners stay open for many years to come and the recipes don't change
My family has been coming here for over 20 years. I grew up looking forward to those nights we’d come by, for monstrously large meatballs, sweet marinara, and wonderful salads with their signature house vinaigrette. We always had leftovers—which we argued over who gets the last of! When I come to visit home, this place is still a staple. Canali’s is no doubt, one of the finest family run restaurants in the capital region. Great staff and hospitality
We always make it a point to dine here when we are travelling through Schenectady. The homemade pasta a delicious and the servings are huge.
The food is good I would go back again homemade spaghetti or cavatelli and homemade Meatballs Which is good for me
We have been here several times. The linguine with clams, chicken parm, eggplant parm are wonderful. The braciole, I wouldn't get again
Favorite Italian food in the the area. Take out is delicious and quick. Food is always incredible!
We ordered chicken Parm dinners to go w green beans salad and tasty roasted potatoes! great serving size hot and ready to go!
Me and my wife frequent canalis the service is always great and the food is on point we love also love the atmosphere. We will be back
Great food. Big portions. Always delicious, whether it be pasta, seafood or chops.
Went for our anniversary dinner. The atmosphere and service was incredible. Dinene was our waitress and she was just awesome. I love Italian food. Cannalis definitely is on the map. Not the best Italian food I've ever had but up there for sure. The portions are huge. The pricing is perfect. We got meatballs, Ceasars salad, the tomato bisque pasta, carbanaro and chx alfredo. The bread was AMAZING. I can't say it enough, the staff makes you want to come back no matter what. They really seem to enjoy thier job and everyone is just so nice.
Always recommend a reservation but we stopped in on a Friday night without a reservation and were able to be seated in less than half hour. The cavatelli with tomato basil cream sauce is to die for. The delicious eggplant parm was so huge could have fed a family. Veal sorrentino was also delicious!
Their takeout buffet is unmatched. The food itself is great but the price is even better, anywhere else that spread is mid $20s or higher per person. Henry the takeout guy is always a pleasure to work with and has always been accommodating. I've used them for 3 years for my companies holiday party and will use them forever. The amount of food is also a great value the 20 person buffet easily feeds 25 or more.
Hudge salad with the best house dressing I've ever had. Bread came hot out of the oven. The waitress was great. Helpful and on the ball. I can't wait to go back.
My first time here and wow! The service was fantastic! The food was amazing! The portion sizes were huge. I ordered the Chicken Marcella with comes with a big bowl of Spaghetti with marinara sauce. Everything from the taste of their marinara sauce to their Marcella cream wine sauce was delicious!
Went here for Mother's Day with my daughter. For starters, we had the red peppers and mozzarella cheese as well as shrimp cocktail. Our main course was Chicken Cacciatore for myself and for my daughter, a steak. Both were absolutely phenomenal. Alongside of that were family style dishes of green beans, roasted potatoes and pasta with sauce. The service was exceptional. I had not been here in quite some time, but we will definitely be back. This was one of the best dining experiences we have had in quite a while
We arrived about 30 min before closing - not generally what I want to do to staff. (sorry - we were hungry ♡) the hostess was super pleasent and assured us we had plenty of time to dine. Our waitress was pleasant and super sweet. We ordered a suggested meal our family told us about and it didn't disappoint :) we ordered the chicken parm in olive oil, garlic & lemon sauce.... OMG folks - make that happen for yourselves 😉
An Italian staple in Schenectady for over 75 years and still going strong! I can honestly say there isn’t a restaurant I’ve been to more times than Canali’s. It’s doesn’t matter if I come for a dinner with two on date night or if I come with the entire family to celebrate, it’s always great! After 75 years they are still family run and it shows! The Garlic Chicken is a family favorite, the Cavatelli in the Tomato Basil Cream Sauce is always to die for. But don’t sleep on their other choices, their NY Strip Steak is one of the best steaks in the Capital District. Maybe you feel like you want a quiet night at home instead, their takeout service is excellent! Portions are huge, order takeout and you’ll have dinner for two nights, and it’s just as good as dining in! If you’re looking for old school Italian food in a classic restaurant don’t wait any longer and come to Canali’s!
We looked forward to go to our favorite location for what we thought was going to be a delicious meal. On the contrary, my significant other ordered her favorite dish. Garlic Chicken Cutlet with roasted potatoes. The meal was very dry. Like the chicken was overly deep fried. There was a fair amount of garlic which was good but as mentioned very dry. It lacked the sherry wine to say the least. The roasted potatoes were over cooked and burnt. This is not the norm for Canali's but this review is warranted.
Our dining party consisted of about 25, and everyone loved their meal. The portion size was so large that I took half of my dinner home. The bread was also quite delicious.
We got take out,the food was ready and was hot
Canali's is just a great, well established neighborhood Italian place. It's everything you'd expect from a place that's been around for 75 years. Fantastic red sauce, fantastic homemade pastas, fantastic shrimp cocktail, etc. I've always loved this place. I do have one small issue though. Frozen and thawed desserts. The cheesecake was meh. The tiramisu wasn't anyone special. Maybe it's too much to ask for in 2023, but can were please have homemade desserts at our local hometown family owned Italian restaurant? Please? After a great comfort food meal, I'm just expecting more than limp cheesecake with still frozen strawberries out of a plastic tub.
Family style, old school Italian. We loved it
Traditional Italian and plenty of it. Reasonable. Not a lot of elbow room but the generous wine pours makes up for it. Plenty of parking. Sitting at the bar is a treat if you're lucky to get a seat and the appetizers are special. Try the chicken livers.
Working backwards, Canali's has a dedicated take home food person that boxes and bags your leftovers. Virtually every person / table left with take home food. Needless to say their entrees are sizable. Even thought Canali's was packed our waitress was prompt and thorough. We didn't mind when she stopped taking our orders because the kitchen buzzed. Another table's food was ready. Nice to know orders aren't sitting under the warming lamps. Drinks, bread and salads followed quickly. Then our table of four was filled with entrees and sides. The veal, peppers and mushrooms was and has been constantly delicious. While the veal sorrento was spot on, the veal parmigiana was a little on the dry side. Canali's has evolved from a small restaurant with a combined bar and dinning area to a large restaurant with a banquet rooms and a dedicated take out window. It's been a local favorite for many years. They provide a variety of reliable, consistent Italian entrees.
We took our grandson and we ordered the variety appetizer which was good but a little overcooked mozzarella sticks...fried ravioli and poppers. Ordered the grilled pork chops....chicken Parmesan and garlic veal cutlet....all three were good but not great. Chicken Parmesan was swimming in sauce and very crusty. Pork chops were cooked well and tasty....garlic veal cutlet was good but slightly overcooked. Side of greens was not very good. The bread was excellent.
Amazing food every time we go and everything is very pleasant. Only one thing that I wouldn't recommend and that's going on a Sunday since it's the last day of them being open in the week. They are usually running low or out of a lot of food.
Food is very good. Had to wait an unusually long time for our meals to arrive at the table after ordering. The waitress was very apologetic and offered good service while we waited.
We had a party of 4. Service was excellent. Everyone loved their dinners except me. Was looking forward to Chicken Sorrento. Chicken was overdone but eggplant was very good. Hard to even cut the chicken with a knife. Was disappointed. Been to Canali’s several times and always had a wonderful experience.
UPDATED REVIEW AT THE END* The food here is great with big portions. I often have enough left over for lunch or dinner the next day. Staff is friendly. Had several events in the banquet area and it was priced well and the staff was very helpful. There is a handicapped entrance to the normal dinning area but as far as I know not to the banquet area. (*TAKE OUT WAS NOT AVAILABLE DURING MOTHER'S DAY, MAY NOT BE AN ISSUE FOR SOME BUT WHEN YOUR MOTHER LOVES CANALI'S BUT CAN'T DINE IN IT'S REALLY DISAPPOINTING!).
Was hoping for better. The pasta is not tossed in red sauce, rather the pasta is plated then topped with red sauce. This doesn't allow the flavor to meld at all and turns watery. The veal wasn't fresh. It was dry and mushy. Scallops were very spicy hot, and served in a pile of oily rice. Definitely expecting better for spending over $100. for dinner for 2.
We went to celebrate an anniversary. The atmosphere and service were good. We had the clam chowder that was supposed to come with the meal & were charged for it. I ordered the scallops and they were gritty, so not great to eat. My husband ordered the NY Strip and it was not cut evenly, so it didn’t cook evenly. He ordered it medium well & it was beyond rare. The lasagna was incredible, huge portion! The chicken parm was burned & could clearly be seen. It should not have been served. Not the best meal we’re ever had there. And the night cost over $200. It was disappointing. And not to mention that we had to wait over an hour for our meal after eating the soup. That’s too long in between courses. The wait start and busers were attentive. However the food left us underwhelmed and disappointed.
Just not what it used to be. We were looking forward to a dinner with GREAT Italian food to celebrate a family member's birthday. Canali's was top of our list. Unfortunately, the food was just ok, nothing to write home about, the server seemed distracted,, and the experience didn't leave me craving to return:( One plus- during the wait for our reserved table, we had a drink and the bartender was skilled and attentive:)
Pretty good food, I would recommend the mussels.
My husband and I like to plan one nice dinner out each month. We were craving Italian and prefer traditional dishes, so Canali's seemed like the perfect place. They opened at 4 and we arrived just after. The decor was just as I had expected - very classic and nostalgic. The hostess greeted us warmly, and we were seated quickly. Our waitress appeared shortly and promptly brought us a carafe of water when we said that was all we wanted to drink. She was attentive throughout the meal as well. Warm bread came out first, and it was delicious! Plenty for the 2 of us, and it was hard to stop eating it so I could leave room. Next was the appetizer we ordered. I admit we could have picked something different, but I love mozzarella sticks and toasted ravioli. My mistake was assuming 1, if not both, would be homemade. The platter came with the expected jalapeño poppers, but the mozzarella sticks were the frozen kind as were the ravioli. And honestly, not even the best frozen ones I have had. No matter - we were excited for our entrees. I had heard great things about the chicken marsala, and it did not disappoint. The chicken was tender and nicely browned. And the sauce! It's possibly one of the best marsala sauces I have had. Not a thick brown gravy-like one, but creamy and light. I was so glad I had ordered it. My husband's Fettucine Carbonara wasn't as positive an experience. After watching him for a bit, I knew something was up. This guy had come here hungry and ready to eat, and he was just pushing food around. He said something seemed off - maybe bitter? I offered to try it, and my reaction was immediately the same - inedible for me. A sauce that should have been creamy and cheesy was absolutely bitter. I didn't say anything as it wasn't as though the dish was made incorrectly. I suspected that they might use a different cheese than what we were used to (cheese made from sheep milk, like pecorino for example, tends to be more bitter). We were both so sad as it looked absolutely delicious, but we split the Marsala instead. Overall, wonderful customer service, lovely environment, and some success with our food. We might return, but the menu options would be much more limited for us if we eliminated all of the entrees with sauces similar to the carbonara.
I use to go here all the time. I haven't been there in a while. My husband and I went here last week. I've been wanting fried calamari for months and saw that they had it so we decided to go here. The bread we had was very crunchy. When the calamari came out, it was very watery when I bit into it. It was mushy and I was very dissatisfied. The waitress didn't come back for a while and when she did we told her what was wrong, she took it back. No apologies and didn't ask if we wanted a new one or something different. She didn't say a thing, just took it back. I ordered the manicotti with meatballs. It was a large portion but the manicotti was very thin and flimsy. The inside was very dry and crumbly. The meatballs were not very good either. I didn't want to be THAT person who sends back 2 things. My husband also said his veal was not very flavorful and the sauce was very watery. The waitress again didn't come back to check on us. And the bus girl they had asked if we wanted it wrapped. I said yes in hopes to give it to my mother for her to eat. She ate it the next day and also said it wasn't very good. I was very disappointed. I hope I can try this place again with a better experience.
Ate at Canli's on New Years eve. Although the waitress was very nice the rest of the experience was not. First off they did not give us a choice of pasta or sides. They did not advise they would have a fixed menu. The portions of the family style sides was not enough for the 6 of us. The potatoes were enough for maybe 3 people so we each got maybe 2 wedges. When we asked for more potatoes we were told no we couldn't have more because they didn't have enough. Very disappointing since I went by a table of two that had a heaping plate of potatoes. One of us had the filet and wanted it well done no pink which had to be sent back 3 times until they finally got it right. Very disappointing experience will not be going back.
Firstly, it was a disappointing experience overall. I ordered shrimp scampi and had a hair in the side dish and the shrimp tasted like dirty dish water. They took it back to the kitchen and I got another seafood dish that was actually delicious. Scallops cooked perfectly and sauce was perfectly seasoned. Unfortunately they did not comp my meal and only offered a free slice of cake. With so many other Italian restaurants in the capital region to choose from, I don’t think I’ll be ever returning to this restaurant.
February 9, had dinner at Canali's. Party of 2, this was our 3rd time there. We thought we found a good Italian Restaurant. However, it took the waitress (Regina) a good 15 minutes to acknowledge us. She was talking to the party in the booth next to us. Our dinner arrived, and it was, when we were almost done, that Regina finally came over and asked how everything was. We ordered baked lasagna and seafood pescatore. The baked lasagna was very good as always. The seafood pescatore was not the quality it had been in the past. With the price of going out to eat these days, it should be the little things that keep you coming back. That wasn't there.
Everything was so bland. It’s like they don’t believe in salt. We ordered veal sorrento, lasagna, cavatelli w tomato basil cream sauce, chicken parm, chicken Alfredo, cheese ravioli and linguine white clams. Hadn’t ordered in years, was a nostalgia trip for the family. Wish I had left it with the memories from how good it was 10 years ago. Worst was the Alfredo it was just flour + heavy cream (and the flour was not cooked out) Best was the cheese ravioli only item I’d actually recommend.
I used to love this place. I have been going there with my family for as long as I can remember. What happened to the sauces?! The red sauce was mediocre, but the wildly over priced Alfredo was terrible. Flavorless. The homemade pasta was a mushy gummy mess. The prices have gone up so much recently that I will not justify paying more money for inferior food. Almost 36 dollars for Alfredo with chicken is INSANE. Sadly, we will not be back.
As far as taste goes we will say it was tasty and flavorful. We both got the chicken Marolo. But the service for dine in was horrid. Well i guess i should say the hostess stand service was terrible as we never got seated. Lady put us on a wait list, okay thats fair its saturday and we didnt have a reservation. No issues there. She tells us itll be about 45 minutes, again okay thats fine. We toldher wed wait but outside and wed come back in, she said "okay, come back before 45 minutes because you never know. I set a timer for 28 minutes. We went back inside expecting to still have to wait. The hostess and host had a whole conversation about us in front of us. Weve never felt so uncomfortable, it was so unprofessional. We watched them seat a 2 top without a reservation that had been waiting way less time than us then the hostess came over and told us itd be too long of a wait and we should "look into going somewhere else" excuse me!? We then got exiled to the take out section which is night and day compared to the dining area. So ghetto and filthy, kitchen and counter staff looked extremely frazzled. All in all very disappointed in the experience. We wouldve asked to speak to the managers but i am almost positive the host and hostess we encountered were either management or ownership. So I suppose thats a dud.
I’ve been going to Canalis for a very long time always had impeccable dinners and catering. But I was there this past Saturday and ordered something I don’t eat at home and it was the Alfredo. It was awful. The sauce was flour and water served over pasta because the pasta the next day turned hard. No taste at all. I tried to re heat it and the flour just stuck to the bottom of the pan. My mother specifically order broiled chicken very well done and no added salt or seasoning. It wasn’t well done and her side dish of greens and roasted potatoes were so salty I couldn’t eat them. Why would you add salt to the sides if the customer requested no salt on the main dish? I had the Alfredo many years ago and it was perfect but I’m not sure I’ll ever go back again after this awful experience
Worst chicken Parmesan I’ve ever had in my entire life. Very soggy, bland and poor customer service. Was seated half an hour after our reservation time. The waiter barely checked on our table and seemed preoccupied elsewhere. With as many Italian restaurants as we have in capital region you seriously need to step it up Canalis. Horrible experience overall.
Very over cooked food. Not fresh at all and takes over an hours to get your food. Do NOT go here !!! Beware of the good reviews
Been eating here for years Was always the best. Not this time. Order 2 stakes and a chicken parm Stakes were way over cooked with no seasonings. Worst ever! 80 buck for that ? Really? The noddles for the Chicken parm were not cooked all the way! What happened? Biggest disappointment in 2025 so far!
We've been coming to Canalis for probably 30 years. As long as I can remember the Chicken Alfredo was the best we've ever had anywhere we have been from the Capital District down to Atlanta where we lived for 8 years. The sauce was thick, creamy and full of flavor. Since moving back to Niskayuna a couple years ago we went back again on Friday night for our anniversary dinner. What a huge disappointment. First of all the Chicken Alfredo meal went from $24.99 to $35.99. I'm fine paying premium prices for premium food (which the Alfredo has always been). However this meal the sauce was essentially non existent. Thin, light and flavorless. I've had this specific meal every time since I was in High School at Schalmont almost 30 years ago and it was always amazing. To top it off (or not), our $15 Martinis were always topped off to the brim. This time they were 3/4 filled, which was another big disappointment. I don't know if minor cutbacks are taking place or it was a really really bad night, but it was enough for us to say not again at those prices. Very disappointed that Canalis isn't what it use to be for my wife and I. Unfortunately when we get a bad meal, we don't feel comfortable complaining and sending our food back due to what may or may not happen behind closed doors.
