Celebrated a birthday with Afternoon High Tea at The Brown Palace Hotel and Spa, and it was absolutely five stars. The grand atrium setting beneath the stained-glass ceiling is breathtaking, and the live piano music adds the perfect touch. The tea selection, fresh scones with Devonshire cream, delicate sandwiches, and beautiful pastries were all exceptional. Service was polished and warm, making the celebration feel truly special. A timeless and elegant way to celebrate in Denver.
We had a wonderful experience at the holiday tea time. The mini sandwiches have great flavors, the scones are soft and amazing, and the desserts are yummy and very pretty. Hiwat took great care of us and went out of her way to find nut-free macaroons for one of our ladies with allergies. Highly recommend.
Stunning!! We loved going to tea time. The tea selection was vast. The food was delicious. The staff was so friendly and attentive. They had a pianist playing which was a great touch. We enjoyed it so much. The setting is gorgeous as well. It is a little pricey but totally worth it.
A Truly Charming Afternoon Tea Experience We visited The Brown Palace for Afternoon Tea in their beautiful multi-story atrium and had a truly lovely time. The ambiance was elegant and relaxing, making it the perfect setting for a special outing. The scones were tasty, but the real standouts were the tea sandwiches and pastries—each one was delicious and beautifully presented. My favorite tea was Jane’s Garden, though every blend we tried was enjoyable. Highly recommend for a classic and memorable tea experience!
During our trip to Denver I booked a reservation for afternoon tea in the lobby of the historical Brown Palace. Immediately the staff was welcoming and attentive, even providing warm blankets to use. Hiwat was very informative and friendly with her service and many years of experience. It was a great tasty and relaxing experience to spend our last day.
I had the pleasure of celebrating my birthday at the Brown Palace for afternoon tea with some of the people I love most. From the start, I must say that the grand atrium is insanely stunning, especially when it is decorated for the holidays. With its grand chandelier, beautiful stained glass ceiling, and tremendous ambiance and comforting tone, the ambiance of high tea was elevated, elegant, and regal. My three friends and I all enjoyed our teas. I got the Paris blend and found it to be a delicious black tea with unique notes of bergamot and caramel. The desserts and scones were definitely the highlight of the food selection, as the finger sandwiches were good but nothing extraordinary (also, they give you extra finger sandwiches, but I would rather have the option to get more scones if allowed). The desserts were all extremely unique and packed with distinct aromas and flavors in each bite. All in all, I am thankful I got to experience afternoon tea at the Brown Palace because I have always wanted to do it since I was a child. As someone who is from Colorado and has lived here all their life, I feel it is a canonical part of being a Denverite: everyone must eventually have afternoon tea at the most iconic hotel in downtown Denver. Lastly, I am not going to lie, it was a costly experience—nearly $100 per person after tip—but it is an experience you will never forget and one I think is worth the splurge.
Always enjoyed the afternoon tea at the historical Brown Palace Hotel, one of the few places in town where the English high tea tradition is still honored along with impeccable service. It was even more so during the holiday season surrounded by splendid festive decorations. The tea selection is wide, but not overwhelming. The flavor is unique and enticing. The pastries were tasteful and delicious. Don't know why the scones were at the bottom plate, followed by finger sandwiches and sweets, instead of in the traditional order of sandwiches, scones and sweets though.
This place is amazing! The atmosphere takes you to another time. We really loved the food and the service was fantastic. It was really crowded but we enjoyed the music while waiting for our drinks and appetizers. You can enjoy cocktails at the atrium or get inside the pub. We will definitely come back for the afternoon tea.
Afternoon Tea was wonderful. I ordered a regular tea, a kir royale, and butterfly jasmine tea. * delighted giggling * I asked for a few slices of lemon with the butterfly tea. A couple of stirs and it turned from blue to purple! Whee!!! * happy science penguin * I used almost my entire 90-minute reservation. I did get the free refill on the sandwiches. Honestly, I think I would have loved refills on the scones better, even if it was just the regular scone. I saved the chocolate truffle for last and actually didn't finish it ... it was really rich.
My daughter took me to the Brown Palace for tea to celebrate my birthday. We were very satisfied with the food, the service and the lovely atmosphere of the hotel atrium. The scones were particularly good. We opted for the $90 tea option that came with a delicious glass of Chandon bubbly - an excellent complement to the tea offerings. The server was pleasant and did a fine job describing the items being served as well as explaining the tea choices. We requested some vegetarian sandwichs with no difficulty. Live piano music added to our dining experience. If you are interested in an afternoon tea, I highly recommend the Brown Palace.
Afternoon tea was very enjoyable for me and my wife. The historic hotel is beautiful and the live piano music made the ambiance magnificent. I had the vanilla bean which was so good. My wife really enjoyed the blue jasmine tea and the vegan options for the food. Delicious!
I had a wonderful tea time date with my boyfriend here. Everything was spectacular and our server Hiwat was so delightful and sweet, even the piano player took some beautiful photos of us. I had the Blue Jasmine tea. 💙🫖
This has become a yearly tradition for me and my daughters. The service was even better this year, the food is consistent and very good! The tea is amazing as well! Making our history in a building so steeped in its own history makes it extra special.
The Brown Palace is amazing, the afternoon tea was definitely a gem in Denver. It is definitely a real taste of English customs here in the US not to mention the real devonshire cream, direct from Devinshire. The tea selection is amazing as well as the quality of items. The service is impeccable and the tastes are amazing.
I loved getting afternoon tea at the brown palace! I’ve had high tea in London and I found this to be similar in offering and style. It was fun to take my sister for a special girls-day and everything tasted great!
Fun, unique and special experience that I highly recommend for anyone who loves a good tea time. The scones with cream and lemon curd were the best I've ever had.
This was such a a treat. The food was wonderful! The tea options are fantastic. I think the staff really make it special. They are all so thoughtful and considerate, wonderful people. It was for my mom's birthday so they brought her out a cupcake with a candle, she was so happy. This is the best afternoon tea!
An expirience! Really enjoyed the high quality pastries and delicious Earl Grey tea. The service was exceptional, we felt very pampered and welcomed! There was soft piano, and natural light from the skylight, stained glass ceilings, beautiful ambiance.
A truly memorable experience in a delightful and historic setting. Dine on fresh scones with Devon cream and jam surrounded by marble and to the sounds of a grand piano. The staff is charming and accommodating. The tea, of which there are pages of teas from which you may select. There's the basic tea, with options for champagne and truffles.
Loved it, food was delicious and tea is also very yummy. Our attending server was very friendly and personable. The area where we sat was gorgeous and beautifully decorated. I am planning on returning every year.
The Brown Palace Tea Room is the ultimate Afternoon Tea experience. I’ve been here for tea many times and never once have I ever been disappointed. I brought my grandchildren today for an early Easter tea. As usual everything was perfect. From the pianist playing to the vanilla tea, the white chocolate cherry scones, the delicious tea sandwiches to the delicate tarts and chocolates. The beauty of that gorgeous old hotel along with beautiful furnishings, flowers on the tables and the wonderful tea service. WOW! The help is and has always been top notch. You can’t go wrong choosing the Brown Palace for special occasion, holiday or simply needing to treat yourself.
Amazing experience. Spent 2 hours relaxing and enjoying delicious tea and snacks. Plenty of finger sandwiches, scones, and deserts to satisfy a full meal. Amazing gluten free option that included GF version of every sandwich, scone, and desert option for only $4 up-charge. Super fun, great service, will be back.
Afternoon tea has been on my bucket list forever! I went with a few of my gal friends for an early birthday present. Amazing experience and the service was delightful! The tea and the finger foods/ desserts were absolutely perfect. Highly recommend!!
Somehow even on one the busiest days of the year (Mother’s Day) the Brown Palace is an incredible, inviting, and essential tea experience. Whether it’s a classic tea experience you’re after, or something more special the Brown Palace does not disappoint. The tea, food and specialty cocktails were all wonderful - worth a second visit alone BUT critically the most impressive thing was the service. Our main server Forrest went above beyond, making us feel welcomed, heard, and as if we were the only guests in the entire full room. They answered all questions regarding the menu, and ensured that we had the most wonderful experience. Shoutout Forrest for making our 1st visit an amazing one, truly a gem. The rest of the staff were very attentive - never asked once for additional drinks - truly a welcoming atmosphere. We would come back just for the service alone. Reservations are tough to come by but well worth it.
Absolutely amazing experience! The Hotel is gorgeous, the music was wonderful (especially the saxophone), and the afternoon tea was delicious. Hiwat was so attentive and made our time special & memorable. She really went above & beyond - some of the best customer service I’ve ever seen. We left feeling so full & had even had some to take home.
I'm a Denver native and Afternoon Tea at the Brown continues to be a major tradition for special family gatherings. We took a sister and niece to celebrate a special visit from their native Hawaii. It was the best food, tea, and especially service we've ever had there. Our Host was very welcoming and made a point of accommodating our request for a more private table, so we could catch up with each other. Our Server was Hiwat, who was so warm, gracious and professional - her presence matched the elegance and class of the Brown. The tea was hot and flavorful. The sandwiches and deserts were fresh and we especially loved the scones with plenty of Devon creme and lemon curd. Thanks for a magical time! Of course, we will be back!
Had a wonderful time at afternoon tea for my birthday. The service was great and attentive and the tea cakes, sandwiches, and drinks were delicious. It's certainly an experience just being in this beauty of a building, the ambiance was incredible. Loved the piano player as well, a great touch. I would definitely recommend for a special occasion. There was plenty of street parking nearby even though there was a Rockies game.
My mom and I love our tea times and my gosh the brown palace is such a great experience! What really made it so special was Hiwat. She’s been with the palace for over 20 years and welcomed us to the experience with so much warmth and care. We truly had a wonderful high tea experience and will certainly be back. Thank you, Hiwat for your attentive service and care! The live musicians were an additional great touch.
This is one of our best and most favorite holiday traditions. The band is out of this world. The Brown Palace is a cherished place to make memories ❤️🎄
We did not have a reservation and the sweet hostess Desi was more than happy to accommodate my husband and I who were traveling in from out of town. The tea, sandwiches, and scones were amazing and fresh- although the desserts were a little too sweet and could use some work. We had a wonderful experience between the live music and beautiful hotel. But we owe the magic of this visit to our exceptional server, Forrest (and of course, the rest of the staff). From the moment we were seated, Forrest made us feel welcomed, cared for, and truly special. Even though we weren’t celebrating, they made it feel like we should be! Their attention to detail, warm demeanor, and knowledge of the tea service elevated the entire experience. Every question we had was met with thoughtful answers, and they anticipated our needs before we even had to ask. It’s clear they take great pride in what they do and they made us feel comfortable in a space that is a little intimidating. Be sure to ask for them if you visit! Would recommend trying the tea service at least once, so glad we did.
Beautiful setting for traditional tea. The food is delicious, teas amazing, and the atmosphere is magical at the holidays! They were also very accommodating for food allergies.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Mariana was absolutely wonderful! She was very attentive, friendly, and made sure everything at our table was perfect. Her warm personality and genuine smile made the whole dining experience so much better. She was quick, professional, and went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. Thank you, Mariana, for such excellent service — we’ll definitely be coming back and asking for you!
Came here with my family for the afternoon tea experience and there were 5 of us. They automatically charge a 20% gratuity fee if there’s 5 or more people. Totally understandable but the service was not up to par with the required 20% gratuity. We were informed that tea would be poured for us and they did fine the first 30 minutes but then never showed back up to pour more tea. We didn’t mind pouring our own tea but since that was part of the experience and part of what we were paying/tipping them for, I expected better. Food and drink were great though!
We enjoyed the afternoon tea in this lovely old-world hotel with a live piano player. The setting is beautiful, you dine in the atrium and lobby of the historic Brown Palace Hotel; it does bring you back to another time. The food was good but not great, the tea was excellent, and the selection of teas was large. The staff was reserved and proper but friendly, which seems fitting for afternoon tea. The piano player is a pleasant addition. If you're looking for an elegant afternoon tea, you will enjoy this.
A really beautiful venue with some excellent tea to boot. Delish scones and sandwiches, but I personally thought the sweets (top layer) are something to be desired. Extra points because they will refill your sandwiches one time for you! That’s awesome and makes the more steep price tag compared to other venues more worth it.
My mom had been wanting to try this forever, so we finally made a reservation. Given the cost, I was a little disappointed in the experience, though the food was stellar. The signage for parking wasn’t clear, so we ended up just doing valet. It looks like parking is in the shared space with the hotel across the street, and you get a discount either way if you mention you’re going to afternoon tea. I’m terms offered the experience, I had envisioned a quiet little tea room with a few tables, but the tea is in the main lobby of the hotel with 30+ tables, and the servers aren’t necessarily giving each table ample care and attention. HOWEVER, the food really was divine. Super interesting flavor combinations like curried egg salad, as well as truly gourmet petit fours. You’re given free refills on the tea sandwiches, so it was more than enough to make a full meal of it (and make the cost a bit more palatable). The servers come around with hot water refills, too, so you won’t be wanting for tea, either. Overall, something to experience one time.
There’s a lot going for this. First and foremost, the location, hotel and atmosphere is great! I think if you’re looking to take someone or yourself out on a date, have your kids introduced to an afternoon tea, or whatever, this is a beautiful place to go. The pianist was great and the wait staff was super nice and amazing! The food was good, not great. I’ve been to several afternoon teas and I feel like I’ve had better finger foods and desserts, but please don’t let that deter you from going.
What a great high tea experience!! I am a big fan of The Brown Palace and look forward to spending many more Sunday afternoons enjoying their high tea. I’m also excited to see what evening offerings they have. I took my mom for her first high tea this weekend and we loved the service and amazing herbal tea selection. My only ‘issue’ is that the gluten free menu could be improved. Our trays weren’t as full as those around us and the gluten free bread was just slightly bland. That being said, I will be back!
Loved the experience and was definitely worth the price point for the most part. Forrest's service made the afternoon even better! If I could eat the cucumber sandwiches and salmon parfait every day, I would be incredibly happy.
Finally got the chance to attend the holiday afternoon tea at the brown palace. Overall the atmosphere is what sold it, being surrounded by the intricate historical architecture of the hotel really set the stage for the experience as a whole. I was quite disappointed with the food offered. The scones were on the harder side but the lemon curd was a really good addition. I honestly liked it more than the Devonshire cream. The finger sandwiches barely had any filling on the inside. It was nice that you get a second refill on the sandwiches but the flavor wasn’t there it was mostly just bread. The desserts were elegantly crafted I liked the touch of gold flakes. The teapots were quite small compared to other afternoon teas I’ve been too from other places. I was also shocked to see that they use tea bags I thought with a price point of $75 per person for the basic royal tea that it would have been more of a natural loose leaf tea with strainers built in to the pot. Probably won’t be back as it’s a little too steep of a price for the quality of everything you get. Visiting the brown palace separately is always well worth it though.
For the price, this experience was sadly underwhelming. The servers were incredibly kind, however they are serving so many tables they can't give you the attention an $80 tea warrants. We wanted to add a charcuterie board to our order, and it took 20 minutes to flag someone down. The food looks great, but was overall mediocre. There was a watermelon dessert that was artificially sweetened to the point of being inedible. The bread on the sandwiches were a little dry, but the flavors were good. We really enjoyed the scones with the cream and custard. I love afternoon teas and don't mind paying this price for a truly phenomenal experience, but sadly this did not live up to my hopes and expectations.
Although I love The Brown Palace High Tea as an experience, the consistent rise in price has put a big dent in it. Quality of food has not reflected the increase of more than double the cost of past experiences; truthfully, it’s mid-level in comparison to other high teas I’ve been to. While the tea is good, it’s not more amazing than a tea house. The atmosphere is the amazing part, but service (while friendly) was almost nonexistent; our server checked in once during a 2-hour period of time. And really, $75.00 for a basic tea, $90.00 because of the addition of a small glass of champagne? I left this year feeling that I had almost been taken advantage of.
My girlfriends and I do tea 2-3 times a year all over Colorado. This was the most "meh" tea we've been to in the past 10 years. The music was sort of dreary and not festive, the service was awful, and the food was below average. Dry sandwiches and the sweets were just not memorable. The sconces were the best part. They set the tea far across a giant table so we were not able to reach it and were dependent on servers to come back and pour our tea. Overall not functional and not nice enough to return. The setting was of course gorgeous but it was like a pretty girl with no personality.
This is not my first time at the Brown Palace for Afternoon Tea. I always wanted to try out the experience around Christmastime. The food was good and I loved the teas. I feel what ruined the experience was the service. When you are paying 75 dollars per person, you expect a level of service. The first waiter spilled tea on the table and did not clean it up. Another waiter spilled water very close to my friend and right on her plate. He did not offer a new plate so she could not set anything else on the plate. Then the hostess came by and asked if we were ready for the check while one of our people were in the bathroom and I said that we were not quite ready. Well the hostess said in a rude tone that our reservation time was about done so we needed to hurry. If there is such a time limit then it needs to be stated clearly which it was not. We did not spend more than an hour. I just don't think Brown Palace staff has what it takes to charge 75 dollars for their experience. The decorations and atmosphere was great on the other hand.
$65 a person is grounds to hold this place to a higher standard and that standard was achieved Tea? Over steeped. The tea leaves sit in the provided tea pot then hot water is added by the wait staff as your pot is empty. Most teas steep between 2-7 minutes. If you’re not chugging your tea there is no way your second cup isn’t bitter. Not really sure when the tea was supposed to be fully steeped either, no instructions were given Food? Old. It came out before we even got the tea, it’s clear they mass produce it and it sits in the back room until someone comes in. Maybe heat up the scones? Use bread that doesn’t stale so quickly? Service/atmosphere? Both outstanding, no negative remarks.
We have been going to yea here for years, but they desperately need a better pastry chef. The pastries look beautiful but don’t taste good. Curious if anyone tries them before they are put on the menu. For the price, it would be nice if the food was edible. The servers need to learn how to pour tea without spilling all over the table. The lobby is pretty and festive, I think that is the only reason to come. Maybe save the $500 you’d spend on tea and just walk through the lobby.
As someone who has loved afternoon tea at the Brown Palace for over two decades, I was really disappointed on my most recent visit 4/17/2025. I took my exchange student for what was meant to be a special 18th birthday celebration, but we were met with a tired atmosphere and significant cleanliness issues. There was no valet available when we arrived. Inside, the decor felt dated, and worst of all, the restroom was filthy—no toilet paper, backed-up toilet, and an unpleasant odor. It was unacceptable, especially for a hotel with such a storied history. The tea itself was just okay. The menu hasn’t changed in years, and while the presentation was fine, it lacked the creativity and freshness that once made it a treat. In a more positive note, our server and the piano player John were both kind and professional. I truly hope the Brown Palace invests in restoring the level of care and elegance it was once known for. Until then, I can’t recommend it.
For the first time ever, I was terribly disappointed in the Brown Palace tea. We have taken an annual trip for my niece‘s birthday every year since she was about 6and she is now 16. Each year we have a lovely experience until now. This year it seems that the Brown Palace decided to become greedy and oversell their tea. I was told by the hostess that over 500 people had shown up for tea that day. This is far more than they can actually handle.Consequently, they needed to set up extra tables around the periphery. Our particular table was set up in such a way that two of us were facing wall and could not see any of the beautiful decorations. We were so close to the table behind us that you couldn’t even turn your chair a bit to be able to see any of the decorations. In addition, the table had a huge middle section so that you couldn’t cross your legs or even sit comfortably. It was also lopsided so every time you put your hand on the table it dipped.! I have never been so disappointed in my life and I’m thinking seriously of not going back. Tea for five people was over $300 and quite honestly the experience was not worth $100. I spoke to the manager at the end and she promised to speak to me later in the week and give me some type of a refund. She never called back. This is not the type of service I expect from a 5 Star historical hotel like the Brown Palace .
Update no response from management. Do not go here. I repeat, as a native colorado person, I say, do not go here, this is not as it was High Tea is fun, we have been going for years. We even made Beetlejuice Tea at Halloween 2024. We did Xmas tea today 12/10/24 1pm. Unfortunately this was a swing and a miss. The Tavern was so busy I couldnt get a drink, the poor bartender was also serving tables. Tea. The Devonshire cream was old, the lemon curd had an insect in it. They weren't cold like Normal so probly old. We asked for new of each, several times and finally got it. Our waiter wasn't the best. Tea strainers dirty. The BLT sandwiches were yucky. They had BBQ sauce or something that didn't pair well. The scones were hard! The deserts were a huge disappointment. The chocolate ball thing with purple filling was terrible and didnt pair well w chocolate shell. Deserts were Overly sweet and not a good pairing. We have never left deserts or sandwiches but today we did. Atmosphere. The Xmas decorations were incomplete, the bows and spikey things on lights were missing. They don't validate parking anylonger. 4 people for $500 total is not a good value. We are going to take a long break from High Tea and find a more Cheerie venue with better value.
We have been previously. Yesterday the reservation was 45min late. The service wasn't as good as I've experienced. The dishes were dirty, the floor was dirty. The scones were dried out and the cream was warm. The sandwiches were made sloppy and the BLT tasted bad. The deserts were not very good. Our party was very disappointed however there was no Manager to speak with. The table next to us with a very elderly woman on oxygen also had a poor experience and complained. The staff seemed stressed and short. Parking was $32 for 90minutes and Valley took forever. All of this is not like our previous experience. I would appreciate a refund or comped return visit. I will email also.
