Opinions de Teachers’ Lounge Food + Drink Denver
Fun fact, the slate hotel used to be Emily Griffith opportunity school. It was so fun to visit as a teacher. The lounge is INSIDE the slate hotel. Service was phenomenal. Very kind waiter! We were on a time crunch, we wanted to order apps and head back for the Nutcracker. The waiter understood, helped us get our order as quickly as possible, and helped us to pay ahead of time so we can save time! He also took great photos of us! I got the burrata and toast. The fig mostarda is the best part! I also ordered the purple mirage. It was rum, pineapple, coconut cream, all spice, ube, and lime. It was tropical, but not overwhelmingly sweet or gross.
For my short trip to Denver, this was the BEST place we ate. First the sat our large party of 10 with no issues. The server was fantastic, the drinks and food delicious in the atmosphere… Amazing. This restaurant is located in the hotel The Slate. Which is in an old school brick building. It has the perfect mix between the historical place, same basic structure brick work and then also a modern flare that feels very warm and inviting. Highly recommend!
One of the better meals I’ve had in recent memory. Service was excellent, food was very well done. To start I had the Caesar salad with salmon on top. It was big enough for a full meal, and was delicious. Also had the steak frites, steak was good and the fries were some of the best I’ve had in awhile. My only suggestion for improvement would be to put the chimichurri on the side so it doesn’t overpower the natural flavor of the steak. As others have mentioned, prices were a little high. Overall, a very nice experience if you feel like treating yourself or someone else.
We made a reservation here for brunch. We didn't really need the reservation since it ended up not being that busy. Our group enjoyed a variety of options both breakfast and lunch type foods. I had a delicious Caesar salad! We were in the area for a teaching conference so we loved the theme!
We had a work event take plate at the Slate hotel and we were treated to a wonderful lunch at the Teacher’s Lounge. The ambience is great, and it was perfectly quiet to hold conversations, even when it is at the hotel lobby. We tried their appetizers, including the goat cheese ball, the elote fries, the farmers market hummus and bison meatloaf bites. They were all very tasty and varied. For the mains, each of us chose a salad base to which we added protein toppings we order for the table. The burrata and basil salad tasted great with both the seared salmon and the flatiron steak, which was my favorite. For dessert, we tried the tempura PB&J - which I’ll confess I wasn’t too interested in, until I bit into it. The flavors were a hit, plus the crunch in the tempura and the sweetness in the marshmallow went perfect together. Very happy with our choices.
Amazing experience. Christie was our server, she was full of kindness and class. She knows how to serve her guests and I truly recommend her as your server. She really made our night. Hilton you have a wonderful person working for your company. Thank you Christie. Keep it up.
Super hotel restaurant! Ate here two times in two days. Lunch when arriving and the. Breakfast on the way out. Both were way above average. Bison meatloaf bites were a highlight. So was the squash soup. My BEC sandwich was way better than I expected. Oh, the poutine fries were great too. Tasty cheese. Lots of bacon.
As a diamond member for Hilton- this is an amazing surprise to find a gem of a restaurant on one of their properties. Brandon was an amazing excellent server to our party. The host was also great.
Staying at the slate and had to try the teachers lounge. The food was great but the real highlight of eating here was our waiter, Gavin! He was very funny and kind and dealt with my endless Denver questions from an out of towner. Gavin definitely made the visit enjoyable and can recommend great whisky/bourbon if you need suggestions! Thanks Gavin!
Enjoyed a drink (Sunset Pearl) and the elote fries mid afternoon. Yum! Service and atmosphere were great! Love the theme of the entire place!
Ask for Brittany, Mike, Sam, Austin… they’re all amazing. The food menu changes from time to time but it’s all amazing food. My fav were the lamb meatballs wraps. So good. Oh and the drinks? They design them in house so you know you’re getting a unique experience.
This morning, I dined at The Teacher's Lounge restaurant inside The Slate Hotel and had the farmer's omelet without bacon. It was an excellent choice. The historical setting on the former Emily Griffith Opportunity School's campus adds a unique charm to the experience. It’s an old trade school campus turned hotel. The hotel's commitment to honoring Emily Griffith's legacy is commendable, offering guests the opportunity to explore a Denver with a rich history.
One of the coolest places we found! The espresso martini is, swear to all that is holy, the single best EM I've had in Denver. It packed a punch and had a fantastic coffee taste too.
Naturally, as a teacher, I love the name and had to check it out. I was so happy to discover that the restaurant is in a hotel, aptly named The Slate, that used to be a school. The food was really good and the server was very nice. The menu harkens back to childhood, with ham & cheese sandwiches in the portion titled Eat with Your Hands. Great concept and good use of an historic building that's purpose outgrew it's space.
Very cool place to check out! I needed to grab lunch before my tour of the Denver Mint and this was the perfect place! The build out of the hotel & restaurant were beautiful and fun (it is in an old school building and they play off that theme well). Food was delicious, several local beers on tap, great (and knowledgeable) service. I loved it.
Incredible food, service, and vibes. Think a fancy college with more elegant hipster aesthetics. A wonderful bar and pretty accompanying hotel!
Eaten breakfast twice and just had dinner. It's a hotel restaurant so the prices are high, but the food quality and service are truly top notch. They had a thing or 2 on the menu that they were out of, so I "settled" on this burger for dinner. It was perfect!
Nice food in the bottom of the Slate Hotel. It's in a quieter area by the back of the convention center. With lots of street parking and a few lots.
Absolutely love this place for two reasons, the bartender Mike and his creative cocktails. I work across the street and love coming here after work to decompress. The new drink menu is a bit overwhelming and hard to read but the food is always awesome. Ps. The butterfly pea rum is a must, not your usual butterfly pea gin which opens the experience for so many more people.
They were slammed ar lunch and it took me a while to get seated. Ended up at the bar. Food was excellent
I was at the convention center across the street and this was about the closest place. I was very pleased. It didn't happen to be very crowded. I had lunch at the bar. The bartender was very cool. I had the smoked salmon toast as well as a couple of beers. It helped the afternoon conferences go better.
The bartender (I’m so upset I cannot remember his name right now but the ones with the fantastic beard) is an absolute all star. I will come back here even when not staying at the hotel just for his service and genuine great attitude. Highly recommend coming here and getting a drink from him.
Super cool joint in a fun hotel. Love the vibe of this place. The tacos were delish and loved the dipping sauce. I’ve had multiple meals while staying at the Slate - all yummy. All of the servers were incredibly kind and the customer service has been top notch. Will definitely be back!
Excellent food and hospitality. Restaurant did a great job tying in the history of the Hotel to the menu. Very well done. Highly recommend!
Food came out fast. Both dishes were cooked just right.
Absolutely loved this brunch spot. We had the mimosas, a martini, and the chicken & waffles Benedict; everything was delicious and perfectly prepared. The flavors were on point, and the portions were great. The service was top notch from start to finish, friendly and attentive without being overbearing. We’ll definitely be back again in the future!
The burger and fries were mouthwatering delicious. They were both cooked to perfection. The fries were the perfect blend of crispy on the outside and pillowy soft on the inside. Our service was wonderful. The music was not really to our liking, but aside from that all was wonderful.
We had both breakfast and lunch here and everything was great. Comfortable vibe and quality food. Tyler was our server both times and really made the experience- thank you for your kindness and hospitality!
Hidden gem! Inside the Slate high school themed hotel. We had the goat cheese ball (so big!), the cornbread was excellent and the fried chicken sandwich was very good too. Service was best we’ve had in a long time. Good location close Paramount, theaters and convention center. Very reasonably priced!
Came to Denver for a conference and brought a group of educators here for apps and happy hour. Had such a great time, we came back for lunch the next day! The manager Ashley was BEYOND accommodating and helped us to get receipts reprinted for work reimbursement. Tyler behind the bar - personable and kind! The food was great and fair prices. 5/5 would recommend.
This hotel was cool and convenient for those attending events at the CCC or in the downtown area. The real treat is the staff, particularly the bartenders. They were so chill and fun. Specifically Fern. He was so knowledgeable and made amazing drinks. He was funny, nice, and someone you don’t mind having a conversation with when you are just trying to enjoy a drink. Would recommend!
I highly recommend this restaurant. Our hotel did not have the healthy choices we were looking for at breakfast. The overnight oats and yogurt with granola were excellent and elevated. The espresso drinks were better then the trendy coffee shop we tried the day before. All the staff were attentive and personable. Especially Tyler who gave us a great recommendation for a brewery and taco shop in a nearby great neighborhood. It's located in an old school and the transformation is unique and creative.
Conveniently located across the Denver Convention Center, my husband and I always visit during the Great American Beer Festival. The food is always amazing, service never disappoints, and they have a decent beer selection too.
The place was quiet and peaceful while we were there, which was a bonus for me. We both had the original burger, and it was amazing to taste the actual burger, which was superb, and the fries had the most perfect crispy crunch on the outside while the inside was still soft enough to eat. They have an array of different foods that all sound good. Although our bill was a bit pricey for only 2 meals and an iced tea and soda, I definitely recommend trying this place out if you're in the area.
My husband and I love this place for Saturday morning breakfast. My husband loves the chicken and waffles, they are the best in Denver! It would be a sad day if they ever took it off the menu. The croissants come out hot and fresh and our server Tyler is awesome. Will be back for more Saturdays to come
OMG! Teachers Lounge is a find! Their restaurant week menu was wonderful, in far exceeding our expectations. The first course of peas and my mushrooms on toast was delish. My other half's fish was excellent and my petite fillet was perfectly prepared (and not petite at all). The wine pairings were spot on and were some of the best wines by the glass we've had. Ever. Dan's service was attentive without being overdone. All in all a lovely meal. We can't wait to come back!
A delightful hidden gem just a few minutes from the DCPA! The food is great, but the cocktails are the stars of the show. We had the Tumbleweed and the Neon Carrot and were gobsmacked by the creativity and flavor. Excellent, friendly, and attentive staff. Beautiful hotel lounge. Clean restrooms. All in all, a great evening before heading to see a show at the DCPA. For gluten free folks, rest assured that they do have gluten free toast and buns available, though the menu makes no mention of that. While you do have to ask about gluten in the food, the servers are happy to find out when they don't know.
I'm always wary of hotel restaurants because they are so variable. Was a bit surprised that our foodie friend wanted to come here. On first glance of the menu immediately saw a couple of things I wanted to eat - lucky for me our group of five decided to share! Highly recommend the steak, fish, risotto, and pear salad - these were all well excuted and delicious. Of these the black garlic risotto was particularly interesting - it has a sweet and allium taste to it that reminded me of French onion soup. I mean who could go wrong wtih French onion soup risotto. Drinks including mocktails were also great. In my opinion, I would consider skipping the loaded fries and croquettes (unless these apps are specifically your jam)- they were just okay. If you really want fries - get the steak because that came with a really delicious aioli dipping sauce.
The food was exceptional and the price and quantities were spot-on. The service was very friendly but seemed to trail off a bit as the night went on (this was valentines, to be fair). The atmosphere was good, not as nice as something like Sierra, but still pretty good. The chairs were not comfortable at all. Really should look into fixing that. Overall I definitely recommend it. The food was exceptional!
The cocktails and food are delicious! Especially the shepherds pie croquettes and the fried chicken. They recently changed their French fry recipe, and those were some of the best fries I've ever had. The only reason this didn't rate 5 stars is because it's so inaccessible - no way to get into the building from its official address on Welton and no signage indicating how to get to the entrance, so we walked a circle around the entire block pulling on locked doors. Plus no interior wayfinding for restrooms that are hidden behind 2 sets of double doors (one which says you need a room key to get back in) and down a steep stairway - also making them inaccessible for people with disabilities.
During my stay at Slate I ate at the Teachers' Lounge three times, twice during breakfast (tried the yogurt, bear claw, as well as chicken and waffles) and once in the evening (chicken sandwich). The chicken sandwich was acceptable but in a landscape where many restaurants offer this, it is very difficult to stand out. That being said all three breakfast items were solid options that I would order again, especially the yogurt as well as chicken and waffles.
Nice full bar inside The Slate hotel. Large menu of food and drink selections, with well made cocktails. Located in an old school building which is pretty cool -- some of that historic decor is retained throughout. Small outdoor patio, as well.
This was a nice location and definitely unique when we came for an education conference. The food was okay; very overpriced for what you get. Some dishes were HUGE while others were tiny. Service was extremely rushed but kind.
This restaurant is located in the old Emily Griffith Opportunity School, and while some elements of the original building remain, the overall remodel gives off more of a boutique hotel vibe. The décor is beautiful and welcoming, and I was genuinely excited to try it out. Unfortunately, the experience didn’t live up to my expectations. We were seated promptly, and our server greeted us shortly after—but that’s where the service stalled. We ordered drinks and waited over 10 minutes for them to arrive, despite there being only one other party in the restaurant. When we finally placed our food order, it took more than 30 minutes to come out. My husband’s flatiron steak may have been cooked to his preference when it was first prepared, but it had clearly been sitting in the window too long and had dried out. My salmon appeared to be baked but was completely unseasoned, and the greens and burrata salad was very light on the greens. Both of us found ourselves reaching for salt and pepper repeatedly throughout the meal. Our server walked past our table multiple times without checking in or offering drink refills. The only time he returned was to ask us if we wanted anything else. That wouldn’t apply this time. At that point, I was more than ready to wrap things up. The food wasn’t awful, just underwhelming—especially given the ambiance and initial impression of the space. Sadly, it didn’t meet our expectations, and we won’t be returning. I really hoped this would become a new go-to spot, but it missed the mark.
DO NOT EAT HERE for Thanksgiving or any holiday function. My husband and I ate here for our Thanksgiving meal and we were very disappointed with the food and service we received. Our chicken pot pie soup was cold as well as our turkey and gravy entree. The only meal we received that was warm was our dessert that we ordered to go because it took 30 minutes for it to be prepared. Our waitress recognized the service we received and did comp our drinks. If you really want a nice, quality, holiday dinner, do not eat here.
It was okay. We went on a busy busy night so I've got to give them a little slack for that but they knew it was coming and we're very ill-prepared.
We had a peculiar experience with this restaurant on a recent Friday night. We had an early pre-theater reservation, and it was our first time there. One of our party has a disability, so when we were shown to a counter-height table with high chairs, asked if there was a normal-height table available. The hostess said there would be only if we were willing to wait for a while (the restaurant was not busy at this time, and was never full for the entire time we were there), and then said that we can't be "picky" about our table. What a weird thing to say. I said that it was a strange way to communicate and that I wasn't loving the customer service so far, and she said she'd send the manager over (which she did not). I could understand if there were really no other table available, but that didn't seem to be the case, and it was just kind of needlessly snarky rudeness right off the bat. Having been given no other realistic option, we sat there anyway, and then watched the staff walk around the table while ignoring us completely while tending to other tables. We were actually on the point of leaving when a server finally brought some water and we were able to order. The burgers and fries were good. The salmon, although nicely cooked, was strongly fishy-tasting. The pasta was fine. Every so often the hostess would pass our table and flash us this strange exaggerated smile. The server herself was good though, perfectly professional. An interesting experience, and not really in a great way. I can't see us going back, as there are other better options for pre-theater in the area, although not as many as before the pandemic.
Well…if you want a presentation but basic food that should be free come and eat here I rarely rate low but this is just not up to par. Steak was cold, sausage was overcooked Small servings and overpriced in my opinion Can’t burn the beer at least Eat here if you must
Went here since my mom and I came to watch Beetlejuice the musical, and they are one of the recommended options from the Denver Center for the Performing Arts. My moms lamb sliders were good, and the one waitstaff (which I’ll get to below), which is why I’m giving it 2 stars. Otherwise, the restaurant was dead, but we were placed in a corner where none of the servers would walk by. Only one random server (not our actual server from what I could tell) popped by 3 times; once to check if we ordered (we had not but ordered with him), to let us know that are food is almost out, and then he gave us our food. The person who initially sat us and came by once to see if we were ready to order (we were not at the time), never came by again and only sat at the bar cleaning dishes from what I could tell. My food that I posted (a ham and cheese sandwich) looked great but the bread was so burnt that it was all I could taste. We didn’t have enough time to ask them to remake the food since it had taken over an hour since we had initially sat down to get our food and we were coming up soon on when the musical was going to start. Finally, we had to go up to the bar to ask for our check and a to-go box. I would not go here again, at least, when they are so dead, since it seems they don’t have any rhythm or flow to their service.
Disappointed by the service, but food was solid. I stopped by Teachers’ Lounge Food + Drink while visiting from out of town. The food itself was pretty good—no complaints there. Unfortunately, the service made me feel really uncomfortable. My server, Ben, didn’t check on me at all after I received my meal, and when I asked for a cranberry juice, it was brought out in a dirty cup. I politely asked for a cleaner one, but that interaction made me feel like I was being difficult just for asking. He seemed more attentive to other tables, avoided eye contact, and overall didn’t make me feel welcomed. I understand people have off days, so this isn’t meant to attack him personally—I just felt like I was doing something wrong simply for being there, and it affected my whole experience. Again, the food was good, but the energy and service really threw it off for me.
