Group of friends were in Douglas / Saugatuck for the weekend and Wild Dog is a standout. Our server, Loriana, was great. She made sure to let us know items that were out as today was last day for the season. There were some bigger parties that sat just after us and she made sure to stop by to get apps in at least in case kitchen got busy. All the food was amazing and full of flavor. The pork chop was delicious. The salmon was tasty and complemented the potato puree so well. The chicken piccata was perfectly salted and full of flavor. The steak was cooked perfectly and also full of flavor. The tagliatelle was great. Definitely a place to check out if visiting the area.

What a wonderful restaurant in the heart of town. We tried many different dishes and all of them were creative and full of flavor. We started with the meatballs which were perfectly cooked, juicy and well sauced. For mains we had the hamburger and Porchetta sandwich. While both were good the Porchetta was mind blowingly good. I mean run don’t walk to get this sandwich. Highly recommend!

We love Donna! This place is great and the ambiance in the dog friendly patio was perfect. Food was all 💯 but the Mediterranean pizza was our favorite. Cash the dog’s favorite was the steak tartare, the duck confit, the meatballs, and also the Mediterranean pizza. Desserts were fire, we got the peach/apple crumble dish, can’t recall the name (but see pic) - ask Donna! The staff were all very engaged and helpful and the interior was smart, we had a great experience all around, Cash approved!

Great food. I've eaten here before and they have changed up their menu a bit.

Our first visit to Wild Dog Grille was a positive one! Stellar service from their entire team. Our waitress had great recommendations and shared her thoughts; much appreciated. The signature mixed drinks were delightful as were the appetizers and entrees. We will be back!

Excellent patio. Very pretty and cozy. We had Mushroom Bisque 💗 Steak Caesar 💗 and some yummy craft cocktails. LOVED the Violet Gin cocktail! Very dog friendly and excellent service.

The drinks, calamari appetizer, and burger were all outstanding. I like the decor and the service was great.

What a fabulous place to dine and enjoy family & friends! Food was excellent! I recommend the Steak Board; was prepared medium rare and oh so tender, with delish fries. Our table got one of each desert & shared. WOW!

Wild Dog is under new ownership with an excellent menu. It was hard to make my decision but I landed on the Mojo Pork and I’m so glad I did. The pork melted in your mouth and was bursting with flavor! Very happy with my selection! Wild Dog will be my restaurant of choice in the Douglas/Saugatuck area!

Had a phenomenal dinner at the Wild Dog. We're the type that like to share, so we opened with the Mezza Platter, which is a mixed vegetarian mediterranean platter and it was excellent. Everything fresh and clearly made in-house, even the pita was either fresh in house or locally sourced... absolutely delicious. We followed that the caesar salad topped with steak (which was done to perfection), and for our main we shared their burger... Whoa! Get the burger! From the pairing of a melt in your mouth bun to (dare I say) an even more melt in your mouth burger that was (again) cooked to perfection (medium rare) plus rich, sweet yet savory toppings (gorgonzola, tomato jam, caramelized onion, garlic aioli)... Just delicious! And since we were on vacation dessert... Apple, plum, pistachio crisp... trust me, worth the calories... and sized to share! All of that and top notch service! Super-friendly from the host staff to the wait staff. We sat outside (they have blankets and heaters) and by the time dessert rolled around we were a bit chilly as the temps had dropped and they happily reseated us indoors by the fireplace indoors. Great food, great service, with a wonderful atmosphere... we'll definitely be back. Everything was truly superb.

New ownership so wasn’t sure what to expect. The menu has changed slightly but honestly the changes are all improvements! The classics are still there but a few new exciting options plus a much wider range of wine and cocktail options. Highly recommend the gourmet grilled cheese, Nashville chicken, and the fish tacos! Love love love. Will be back again soon!

Food was very good. Meatballs are good but bread that came with dish was outstanding. Pizza great, burger was ok.

We had a great dinner here. There was a wait for a table so we sat at the bar. The bartender was very friendly and got our orders in quickly. The food was very tasty and the portions were more than we could eat. The restaurant has a nice and lively atmosphere. I would definitely go back again.

We went there with a group of 10, and we had a great time. The staff was friendly. Our server Ashley was on point, she had our bills separated, the drinks came out together, the food all arrived at the same time and was amazing. The surf and turf was so good. The steak had so much flavor, currently the best steak I have ever eaten. We will definitely be going back, and I recommend going and getting some awesome food.

Had a great experience at the Wild Dog Restaurant in Douglas last week. Had reservations for two and were seated in a lovely area of the patio with a great view. The hostess was courteous, sat us promptly and checked in to make sure all was well. We ordered the Wild Dog burger which was excellent. Juicy and cooked exactly how we liked it. The chicken with potatoes was also a treat. The wait staff was courteous and efficient. It has a new menu under new ownership with a new menu so we will be back to try more.

Beautiful restaurant, INCREDIBLE FOOD! We had the burger and the steak. They were unbelievable. Also, I highly recommend the suppli as an appetizer and the Manhattan and the Elderflower Spritz. On top of all that, the service was excellent!

We’ve dined here a lot over the summer and have had the opportunity to try many of the items on the menu. Wild Dog Grille is consistently very good. The menu offers something for everyone ~ meat, seafood, vegan and gf. I have read a few of the other people’s reviews and I have had only excellent experiences. The menu is curated by the chef/owner and the overall atmosphere is warm and friendly. Wild Dog is quickly becoming our go-to spot.

Just eat here. The food, drinks, and dessert are great! The fresh flavors mixed with a personal spin on already good choices make everything great! It was a great choice for a special occasion!

we ate at Wild Dog 4 times this summer and had a fantastic experience every time. the chicken piccata is the best anywhere, the pork chop is outstanding, and the salmon delicious. 3 out of 4 times the service was perfect. the atmosphere is inviting and comfortable. The chef is amazing.

Stopped in for dinner on a girls' weekend. The food was delicious, and service was attentive and friendly. I had the pizza and it was great, and one of my friends said the beet salad was the most amazing thing she's had in awhile. We loved the outdoor seating area, and the atmosphere overall.

Wild Dog is the best! We were in town for 5 days to explore the area - I was in there 4 of the 5 either eating or hanging at the bar. Food , service, everything is awesome - this place is a hidden gem. Rob at the bar is the GOAT! Also if you don't strike up a conversation with Jeff when you arrive you are missing out on life. Susan our server was amazing. We loved a lot of things about the area, and can't wait to return, but this was a place we looked forward to every night at the end of our day. Thank you Wild Dog crew!

We visited Wild Dog several years ago and were underwhelmed. Tried again last night and had an amazing meal—beginning to end! Facility was clean and attractive; we sat on the patio on a gorgeous evening in June. Wait staff told us the restaurant was under new ownership for the last couple of years or so. They treat their staff with great care and everyone operates as a good team. Service was outstanding with manager front and center involved in the dinner service. We both had the butter lettuce salad with tarragon vinaigrette, watermelon radish and a nasturtium crown. I had the gnocchi and morel special and it was excellent. Spouse had a burger which he greatly enjoyed. We shared a butter cake and lemon-thyme house made gelato for dessert. It was a perfect anniversary dinner.

We had a wonderful meal and evening at Wild Dog last night! We were a group of 5 and had a range of dishes we shared from the new Gyro platter, meatballs, salmon, a steak platter, and yummy salads! Cocktails were lovely with they had nice bourbons and gins to choose from. Their new wine list is excellent! We enjoyed a nice Pinot Noir from the Sonoma Valley. Great service and the Chef even came out to say hello! We will be back soon!

Nice restaurant in center of Douglas. Summertime outside terrace is cosy. Watch out mosquitoes, those comes when the sun goes down. Try wild dog burger, it is juicy and tasty. Pizzas look like homemade and are really rich of ingredients. Wine list is good an in tap they have local selection.

We stopped for a late supper. The bed and breakfast we were staying at highly recommended it. The pizza are great fresh toppings, including the cheese. Some places have imitation cheese. But not this place. They have a wide range of drinks. It's also has seating options inside or on the patio. Both were busy when we went. The service was normal for a busy night. We went on Tuesday night and it was crowded. Would recommend to at least take your time and enjoy a meal here. Or just meet friends for drinks.

Drinks- pretty watered down for $14 cocktail, mostly ice. Food was good - beet appetizer w/ goat cheese, wild dog burger, pork sandwich on ciabatta roll. Service just OK. While attentive, she could not answer some basic menu questions. Decor was pretty generic.

It was very nice. Pizza was good. Not neopolatin but good. Salmon and soup were both good.

Called in for a quick dinner. Lovely atmosphere. Service was slow until Devin stepped in to take our order and speed everything up. He was awesome & made sure that we had ordered and fed before sunset & pictures 👍

The burger was okay but they gave me almost no blue cheese. The food took 40 mins to come out and the staff acted like it wasn’t a big deal. They were otherwise friendly.

Wow. Everything was going good until we got the final bill. We thought it was strange that the waitress had originally asked us if we wanted parmesan cheese with our pizza orders. We assumed that meant they would just be bringing some out to the table. Well, they actually CHARGED us ($4.50)for the parmesan and didn't say anything up front that there would be an extra charge for that. It was literally the first time in my life that I’ve ever been charged for a “condiment”, ….like ever. Shame on you. $100 dinner and your nickel diming me for parmesan cheese? …. dang.

L

AVERAGE AT BEST. Wild Dog is so aesthetically pretty, our cocktails were good (not great) and our waitress was very kind/good. However, the food was so BLAH. My friend got Pappardelle and added the meatballs. Thank God she added the meatballs otherwise she would be starving bc the portions were so small for the $32 dish. The red sauce was floral in flavor. I had the Chicken Piccata (gluten free) and it was flavorless. The Noodles were in a “soup” and they gave me a fork. The chicken was blah. And it was $5 extra for the gluten free pasta (ridiculous) and $1.50 extra if I wanted Parmesan cheese (what???). We spent $101 on 2 dishes and 2 drinks and it was the most boring meal ever. Highly disappointed and would not return.

D
Darius Matthews

Overall it was a good experience for our party of 11, which included 6 kids. Our server was great! But the manager did seem put off when we returned a couple pasta dishes for being too salty and for seeing kids GF pasta with butter costs $19.

I would like to preface this review with we went to McDonald’s after dinner here. The appetizer of zucchini flowers was..interesting. Not bad but lacking in flavor. If you’re a fan of straight lemon juice concentrate then the grouper is for you. The steak frites were embarrassing. The most delectable part of this meal were the frozen french fries that came with the steak. It’s disheartening to write this review, we were looking forward to this experience and were more than let down. If you want good food that’s worth the price go to Everyday People Cafe, Borrowed Time or any restaurant in Saugatuck. Will not recommend or return.

Been wanting to check out the new menu (new owners and management) and could not have been more disappointed in the food. The gazpacho was bland and uninspired - tasted like it came out of a can. The steak frites were served overdone, mostly gristle and cold. Even the fries were stale and I suspect frozen from a bag. Nothing tasted fresh really. (Note - server acknowledged the quality of the steak and removed that entree from the bill)

Our family of 4 visited today right as they opened. We were greeted with friendly staff and over all had a good experience with the server and the place had a nice atmosphere. BUT... The food was lacking in every single technical aspect. It seemed to me that the kitchen either is brand new or doesn't train their staff well. Appetizer - we ordered calamari and it was soggy from all the grease and over salted. Entree- I ordered the wasabi salmon and my husband ordered the wild dog burger. The salmon was overcooked (by a lot) and the fried rice it comes with was terribly undercooked . His burger was dry and slightly overcooked (and didn't come with fries or any other side for that matter). Additions- I also added a small Caesar salad to my entree. The lettuce was 50/50 green to green/brown and wasn't consistently cut as I had some very small pieces and some super large pieces not cut all the way through. I hesitate to write this as I don't want to come across overly critical. But when every layer of my meal was overshadowed by its technical flaws and my bill is that big it makes me cringe. I am a culinary professional with a degree and have worked in my fair share of restaurants so these flaws are very obvious to me. I personally will not be back.

Stopped in for a burger and was very disappointed. Fries were cold and old, burger was not quality meat and over cooked. The only bright spot was Lexi the server!! She's FANTASTIC and needs to take her talents as a server elsewhere.

Waited forever for our food. People that got there and ordered after us got their food before ours. I honestly think our waiter forgot about us. He was very forgetful. The alcoholic drinks were amazing. But for paying $54 for Waygu ribeye it was super bland. Pizza was way better.

Had bad experience.reservation at 530..was seated early..large Party of 21 in at same time. Did not receive food until 645..waitress kept apologizing for what was not her fault... management need to take care of this... definitely not please with first experience..bar service and waitress were great...guess owner need to work on better management of restaurant issues..but did give us gift certificates for us to come back...have to think about it.

T
TRW

My god...what an absolute disaster... There is NO management whatsoever, first off. The waitresses, save one, are ill-trained and thus helpless. They know very little...about the food...about the wines, about digestifs, etc. Wouldn't you think, if you were the owner of a $30-50 per plate restaurant, you would actually TRAIN your employees??? Nope. Not here. The staff hasn't even been "allowed" to sample the food, the wines...they know nothing about cocktails, etc. The entire cadre of employees, excepting the bartender and the host/manager, is running around like a perturbed animal and NOTHING is being coordinated. I've never seen anything like it in a restaurant! If Gordon Ramsay had been on the scene tonight he would have beaten the owners senseless. Do not go here. It's infuriating!

I had the WORST Hamburger I’ve ever had in my entire life. It was well well well done - dry and burnt to a crisp. Sent it back once and 2nd one came out the same. I wouldn’t go back here. The appetizers weren’t good either - I really wouldn’t go back here again to be honest.

Had heard good things and seen good reviews for "pub" food. Only to arrive and find that there were new owners, new menu (not pictured on google) and way more expensive. Cheapest thing was a burger at $18 and it wasn't even a good burger. I'm sure it's good food for somebody, but the Google info needs to be changed to reflect the new menu and prices as we were taken off guard having wanted a good pub experience not a fancy dinner.

We came there on a cold windy, rainy Wednesday night to have some drinks. Walked in and the host was very rude. He informed us since we were not having food. we could not use the three open high tops in the bar. We go there quite often and this was on a slow night. For some reason they were not using their dining room. So they turned away frequent customers which I am sure the owners would not be happy with.

M
Mario Gagnon

Steak was cooked to the wrong temp…twice. Overpriced for what you get. Draft beer was the best part. Was only offered free wine, which we didn’t want. Wouldn’t recommend.

New ownership, new menu and new chef......and you could tell. Nothing like it was previously. Pizza was all crust and no filling. Tasted bland. Manager not really concerned....and the credit card system failed so we had to sit around waiting to pay. Would never go back. Too many other good restaurants locally.

I wish I had checked recent reviews before coming here because I would have eaten elsewhere. I avoid giving bad reviews whenever I can b/c I know how difficult it is to run a business. However, eating here was a waste of a meal and of money. I can forgive slow service—which it had. However, I can't forgive bad AND incredibly delayed food. Our server, who was hustling, which I can respect, took over 15 minutes (it could have been closer to 20) to get us ice water and take our order. So, strike #1, understaffed and slow service. Again, forgiveable b/c Douglas is a seasonal town. Then, strike #2—our mezze appetizer platter (finally) arrived. $18 for 6 wedges of pita, two meager spoon scoops of baba ganoush and hummus, and a smattering of vegetables. Also, and somewhat incredibly, it was served with canned and flavorless olives. Then, strike #3—our wood-fired pizzas, when they finally arrived were not good. As in they were bad. The dough was not fully cooked on one of the pies and it had the same flavoring and texture as the pita bread which just felt lazy. The toppings were not good. However, we were so hungry after all the delays, that we just ate our pizza and paid our bill. Next time I'll do my restaurant review-reading homework better.

Danie Stuive

Disappointed. I heard great things about this restaurant from so many friends. With the high food prices I had high expectations. I went simple and ordered their gourmet grilled cheese. It was so disgusting. One of my slices of bread was the butt of the loaf. They tried hiding it by placing the end on the inside of the sandwich. Waitress service was limited and not worth the wait trying to send back the sandwich. Luckily we ordered an appetizer and my friend shared some of her sandwich. She also ordered the grilled cheese and hers had sliced block cheese just thrown on. Not melted at all. For $12, you too can have the worst sandwich with no sides. I HIGHLY do not recommend this place for food or service.

J
Joel Bussis

Gyro platter was terrible. Oven roasted lamb was dried out, pita was cold and stiff. Management was delusional saying it was highly seasoned when there was non.

P
Pat Schagrin

Food was mediocre, would not recommend this restaurant. Steaks were tough, and hardly ate any of it. Manager was very very unpleasant. Waitress was wonderful, but that was the only thing pleasant about this restaurant. Never coming back again. If you want good service and mediocre expensive food, feel free to come here. Not worth the $$$$

Our experience at Wild Dog couldn't have been more of a let down. From the moment we arrived to check in for our reservation, the Host sneered at our two children while informing us that they could not honor our patio reservation because it is reserved for guests 12 and over. No big deal - we rolled with it, including the rude way he chose to communicate the policy to us. After being seated, we immediately ordered drinks and entrees for our kids. Seventy (70) minutes later, we flagged our waitress down to ask for refills because we hadn't been checked on and inquired about the status of our kids' dinners. During that time two tables of families seated after us had come and left in disgust for the service and wait times. My husband and I were determined to try to enjoy a night out and a nice meal so we tried to be patient and wait. After 80 minutes, our kids' meals arrived without an apology or acknowledgement of the wait and about 15 minutes after that our entrees. Our drinks were constantly empty and the food was fine, but not worth the wait, cost, or treatment. This was a Wednesday evening so not a busy night compared to weekends and the restaurant was not full. We frequent Douglas/Saugatuck a lot and will be permanently removing Wild Dog from our restaurant list and not referring to friends. I would only recommend this place if your sans kids and not in a hurry while not minding to overpay for average food and cocktails. Severely disappointed.
