Opinions de Mijares Mexican Restaurant East Washington Blvd.
Mijares has been around over 100 years, although it started as a just a tortilla store. Jesucita Mijares, the first owner fled the revolution in Mexico. Somehow she decided to settle in Pasadena where she opened a tiny Tortilla Factory & established the restaurant. I think the original place had a bad fire and it was rebuilt. It is so very comfortable and clean and just pretty. This is traditional Mexican food. She used all her her original recipes and they still do. They are well known for their Happy Hour and their Margaritas. They have indoor and outdoor dinning. The prices are fair for Pasadena. The food is stellar. Make a reservation. They also have a banquet room and private dinning. The enchiladas are excellent and their rice and beans are so good. Make sure to get tortillas. Their hard tacos and chili relleno are so great. Everything is great. You will love it.
It’s loud because everyone is having so much good food and fun. The staff was quick and did not skimp on the chips, salsa or drink refills . It’s been a while since I had good mole sauce . I loved their albondingas soup . Hot and comforting .
The service is so professional. Great customer service. The #9 Mijares enchiladas ground beef is just so tasty!
Always a pleasure attending functions at Mijares. The atmosphere is beautiful and well crafted. The staff are professional and diligent to serve from small groups or large receptions. The food is Mijares-level cuisine- that seems to be a standard amongst several circles of acquaintances... other establishments are assessed to the Mijares level and rated accordingly. Mijares seems to have become a benchmark. The menu is good and the dishes more than agreeable. Seating is limited most all the time, but that's due to the popularity.
I've been coming here since 1998. This place is the best Mexican restaurant in Pasadena, bar none. The service is great and so are the margaritas 🍹. Always get some table made quacamole. Everything on the menu is awesome. My all time favorite are the chili rellenos with rice and beans. Just like mom used to make. Call ahead and get a table with friends and have a great time.
⭐️ Historic Pasadena Gem. Mijares Mexican Restaurant 📍 Pasadena, CA | Est. 1920 What a fun evening! We came here as a group of 10 for dinner, and the place was absolutely buzzing. The atmosphere is warm and colorful with authentic Mexican décor, charming chandeliers, and a large open patio filled with plants perfect for a lively evening or a casual family meal. 🌿🌮 The staff was friendly and handled our big group with ease. Our table enjoyed chips, salsa, and a fresh tableside guacamole prepared right in front of us definitely a highlight! 🥑🔥 The drinks kept coming too from skinny margaritas to piña coladas festive and refreshing. 🍹🎉 The food portions were generous (we tried the beef & shrimp fajitas and burritos), though the flavors could use a bit more punch. Still, the overall experience was authentic and welcoming, true to a Pasadena landmark that’s been around for over a century. 🕯️🇲🇽 ✅ Accessible parking and restrooms ✅ Large indoor & outdoor seating ✅ Great for groups and celebrations If you’re looking for a classic local spot with old-school Mexican charm and friendly service, Mijares is worth a visit. 📸 #MijaresMexicanRestaurant #PasadenaEats #HistoricPasadena #LocalGuideLevel9 #GuacamoleTime #MexicanVibes #CaliforniaDining #FoodWithFriends
The food was great! My entire family really enjoyed their meals. We sat in the patio area which was very nice. The tamales and menudo are excellent. I recommend both as they were very tasty. Albert our server took great care of us and the rest of the staff was very attentive. I'm glad I didn't pay attention to some of the reviews because the food was outstanding. The only thing I did not appreciate was the gentleman who checked us in. He's kind of rude. He never looked up and did not welcome us. He just asked me my name and wasn't personable. I made a four thirty reservation and he acted like he couldn't find my name. He then answered the phone in the middle of our conversation and told me to wait off to the side. Another person, a very nice lady offered to assist and found my name right away. When it came time to seat us at our table, a young lady asked us to follow her but walked way ahead of us and we actually lost her. She didn't wait for our party and hurried through the restaurant. It was our first time visiting Mijares, so we didn't know where we were going. Then, at the end of the meal, when we were leaving, Albert asked her to get us a bag. She reached into this large cabinet and gave us a used porto's bag, which had nothing to do with the restaurant. I felt like in that moment she should have asked someone if they knew where the bags were instead of handing us a used unsanitary bag. I will definitely return and look forward to trying the many dishes they offer. Having a variety is a plus in my book!
I was heading to another bar and wanted to try this place out first. I drank some beers, ate some complementary salsa (the chips were really good!), and watched some sports. The place was pretty packed; the private room was occupied. The service was great. They were efficient even when it was a packed house. They have a good size parking lot. You can park in the neighborhood for free also.
First of all, I have to say the service was excellent! Very nice atmosphere and waiters and waitresses were extremely pleasant. Always making sure we had everything we needed! The food was also amazing! Oh, and the peach margarita on the rocks was phenomenal! Will definitely come back here again!
I hosted my mom's 70th birthday party at Mijares in the banquet room and everything was awesome! The staff was attentive and all the guests were super happy with food, drinks, and atmosphere. Definitely great spot to host a smaller event (under 100 guests). Parking can get a bit hectic but street parking is pretty easy.
This family owned restaurant originated from their Grandmother Jesucita Mijares, who came from Guadalajara, Mexico. They have been serving Authentic Mexican Cuisine for 104 years, making it one of the oldest ever in the Los Angeles area. This is the restaurant that Mario Lopez recommended so we wanted to try it. They have indoor seating and a lovely patio area. There’s seating at the bar as well. Friendly and attentive service from Marco S. and Rudy. We tried: GUACAMOLE ESTILO MIJARES CHILE VERDE FAJITAS DE LA CASA DELUXE BURRITO TACO SALAD MARGARITAS We got there they opened at 11am on a Saturday. It wasn’t busy yet so we were able to park in their parking lot and get seated right away. Love the decor throughout the restaurant!!
A family owned restaurant that has been operating for over 100 years, and there is a reason they have been thriving for so long. One of the best Mexican restaurants I have ever been to for sure. The restaurant is huge, and was packed even on a Wednesday evening. Seems like happy hour is very popular here, and they have a buffet lunch as well. Gigantic portions and absolutely delicious, highly recommended!

Fresh, tasty, well prepared food from a true family owned operation. Consistent for decades and while they’re not immune to inflation, the value for the price point remains good.
Our group of 18 scheduled dinner. Great food, great service, great time. Best steak and chicken fajitas ever. Add this to the return list.

After an appointment, I decided to go to my local authentic Mexican restaurant, Mijares, for lunch. I am a creature of habit sometimes. I remember how much I liked their chicken quesadillas with green tomatillo sauce in the past. I can't eat hot spicy food anymore. I ordered a plate of two with the sides of rice and beans. And to drink I had Jamaica. This is the second time I noticed that the chicken was not inside of the enchiladas but on the top. It was shredded chicken on top, kind of unusual. All other places have the chicken inside which makes the enchiladas more flavorful. It felt like I was having cheese enchiladas. The Jamaica drink was very weak and tasted watered down. I didn't even finish it. One thing I really enjoyed was the salsa that came with the chips. It was so tasty and not spicy at all. I loved it! I could taste the oregano. I was never asked if I needed anything else. Is it me or have they changed their ways of preparing the quesadilla? I love the feel and vibe of the place; you have the option to sit outside in the patio. I really having been longing for Mijares and I felt a bit disappointed.
Staple mexican restaurant in Pasadena. It has a long history being open since 1920. Foodwise thought it was pretty decent. Flavor is very mild. Didn't really have any distinct flavor or seasoning that had a wow factor. I ordered the shrimp and lobster enchiladas. Portion was generous, but the filling in the enchilada was not. Overall food was okay. Think there's other Mexican restaurants I would rather go to on repeat.
First time there for Sunday Brunch. Best carnitas ever! Great baby back ribs! Two mimosas for each guest and no transfers of drinks... Thought the waiter was kinda rude and inatentive but Rudy the helper was awesome! Wouldn't go back even for the amazing carnitas! No regrets! Try it!
Mijares Mexican Restaurant – Comfort Food & Great Service Stopped in at Mijares Mexican Restaurant and went for the classic: cheese enchiladas. They were tasty, not spicy (a relief for those of us who think “mild salsa” is already walking on the wild side), and came as a generous portion with rice and beans. Definitely filling and satisfying. One of my friends is vegetarian and had some special requests. Even though what she wanted wasn’t technically on the menu, our waitress went above and beyond to help her put together exactly the dish she was craving. That kind of flexibility and friendliness makes a huge difference. Overall, the service was excellent, the food was solid, and it’s a place I’d happily return to for a comforting, no-fuss meal.
We just walk in And This woman nothing friendly Her face was like sour lemon 🍋 totally She look at me like I’m nothing totally bad experience, then I order chilaquiles The chilaquiles was more like nachos whit green salsa the beans no flavor the rice ok I dint finish at all I had bad experience but good luck to you if you go. The servers was friendly Very clean the place and clean bathroom to
Mijares Mexican Restaurant in Pasadena is a total gem—it’s been around for over 100 years and you can see why it’s one of the most popular Mexican spots in town. It’s always buzzing, especially on weekends, with tons of events and functions going on. We swung by for dinner before hitting a concert at the Playhouse, and the food blew us away. Super authentic vibes—the Baja special was a knockout with all kinds of seafood cooked up Mexican-style, and my wife’s steak fajitas were just as incredible. Service was spot-on, and the tableside guacamole? So good, it’s practically a show of its own. That said, it’s not perfect—parking’s a bit of a pain, super small lot, so we ended up on the street. Inside, it gets loud, like really noisy, but you can dodge that by asking for patio seating. Still, the food and vibe make it worth it. If you’re in Pasadena, Mijares is a must-try.

Enjoyed the historic and traditional value of the decor and ambiance. The menu seemed busy and chaotic to a first timer. Lots to look over. Food wasn’t terrible but the quality was off for the price point. In addition their frozen margs were pretty awful and awfully expensive at $15/each. Basically all sugary and frothy. Avoid those if possible.
Saw this place listed on Happy Hopper and decided to head out and have a margarita that the reviews raved about. I walked up to the door and didn't see anyone at the front so I waited a bit. There were two men talking and I made eye contact with one of them. I figured I'll step inside a bit to be seen. Still nothing. The two men continued talking. It's been about 3ish minutes already. Four people come in and IMMEDIATELY one of the two guys goes and greets them. They nicely pointed out to him that I was here first. And this guy's response? "I'll get to you in a minute" and continues seating them. I should have walked out at that point. This dude saw me walk up AND walk in and completely ignored me. Whatever fine. I still wanted that happy hour. Unfortunately, happy hour is only offered in the bar area and I had my dog. I believe there is a patio that's adjacent to the bar but it was not set up. I still got to enjoy a margarita and chips. The margarita was delicious! ($15 skinny Marg) I ordered a bean and cheese burrito ($10.50) and it was a great size but the beans lacked flavor. I believe if a Mexican restaurants beans are not good then the other food is not good. Therefore I did not try anything else. I ordered limes and got the driest limes ever. These things have been sitting out for days because the pulp crumbled when I squeezed them. (See photo) Bad experience all around. My water was awesome but the damage was done. Never again.

I wanted so much to love this place as they've a really nice atmosphere and large selection of food. Plenty of seating with a great patio. Margaritas were fabulous. But, the food from the salsa to the entrees was bland. Mild to no flavor and absolutely NO HEAT to speak of. Our entrees included nachos, enchilada, tacos, refried beans and rice.

Brunch menu it's okay, can be better but you do get what you pay for I guess. Just know that if you have a party of 10 or more a 20% gratuity will be included on your tab which we are totally okay with it, yet service from our "designated server" was almost NON EXISTENT we saw him maybe 2 times the whole time we were there, I guess since they know they have a secured tip they can careless if they actually take their time to do their job. To top it off, the second and last time we saw the server was for him to tell us we had to leave, which was shortly after we paid. Seems like that's all he was waiting for. Maybe they should start telling customers about their "time limit" beforehand instead of coming off so rude about it.
