Opinions de Philz Coffee Encinitas
Well, the staff here are super stars! So friendly and helpful. Also funny. And they really care about good drinks and food. The chair is fantastic. The protien bowl is too. Well done team! 5 stars for you. (Oh, and the location is not bad either...lol)
So happy a Philz finally opened in San Diego! The mint mojito is my favorite; I had never had coffee with mint before. They also have gluten free options, I highly suggest indulging in the mediterranean avocado toast; it's seasoned to perfection. Spacious location with plenty of seating. Parking can be a hassle on the weekends, aim for parking on side streets.
Best coffee imo. .. This Philz joint in particular has very nice staff , baristas and the lines aren't long at all, even on a busy day it's been generally fast considering the current situation. .. Highly recommend this Philz even if you are far away like me 🙂🤙🏻
Simple and clean. Coffee fresh drip made per cup. Food is limited to their specialty toast options. Avocado toast with a sliced boil eggs, ricotta cheese with pistachios and honey (I ate this one) Super Yummy. Nothing filling. Other toasts almond butter with bananas, and a yogurt with sliced cucumbers. Clean. Fresh flowers. Two restrooms.
I have been drinking only espresso for 15+ years because espresso has lower acidity than drip coffee which upset my stomach, my son convinced me to try a Philz Coffee pour over. It tasted great and no upset stomach!
Philz has the best coffee I've ever had by a stretch. Not sure what it is, but the taste is so different than anything I've had before. Staff is great, wifi is strong, inside is clean and nicely decorated/furnished. And FYI their coffee apparently has twice as much caffeine as most places, so get a half-caf if you're sensitive.
Guess I’m done with Philz. The people working here are super snotty and pretentious. I was going to order a large and share it with my friend and they asked me if I wanted a small cup to go with it and I said sure and then realized they upsold me to buying two overpriced coffees without realizing it. I can get a good cup of coffee at many other places Nearby without the attitude and double talk (I’ll hook ya up bro!). 👍 Update- keep doing what you’re doing my friends. There shall be no bad reviews in the world. If you don’t have anything good to say about someone don’t say anything at all. Well I am again a big fan of Philz. They bring some very unique flavors to the table and I love them for that. I hold the ether near to my heart. It brings a traditional “Daniel Boone Kentucky vibe” to the traditional coffee snobbery and I thank you for that. Cheers mate!!
Amazing coffee! Smooth, NOT bitter or BURNT like "the other guys"! They grind the beans to order! The staff is super attentive and makes sure the coffee is just the way I want it. The cream they put in also seems to be a high quality. The only thing I didn't like - at least the one time I sat inside - was the God-awful "music" (noise). The "singer" must have repeated this one short stanza of music and lyrics at least 15 times in a row and it was like a broken record or water torture! Literally so awful I yelled out loud, "make it stop!" If it hadn't been dark, cold and windy outside, I would have run out of there. Hopefully that's not the usual selection, because the experience of sitting with a soothing hot cup of delicious coffee is totally ruined by that chalkboard scratching torture chamber "music".
The Best, what is even better is the service from the amazing employees. They know me by name when I come in.
I never knew about this place, but they had great service and knowledge about their coffee, as well as a really good atmosphere. The coffee is a little pricey per cup ($3.6 for a 12 oz cup), but the quality is very high. I'd definitely return here when I'm in the area
I never thought coffee with mint would taste good, but I was feeling adventurous today and gave it a shot. The Mint Mojito was surprisingly good and I'd definitely order it again. You can definitely tell Philz is a local favorite and for a good reason!
Talk about good coffee! These guys really have something special - their unique roasts and blends are top notch - I put Philz on my short list of best coffee in San Diego. The Tesora is my favorite - give it a try!
Lovely staff, was initially disappointed when I realised it was only drip coffee, but the guy who served me talked me through the options and the coffee I got was excellent . Would recommend
Philz is one of my favorite places for coffee. For those of you who go in for the first time, you wait in line for your batista to take your order. My go to drink is the Mocha Tesora, I like it sweet and creamy. Since all the drinks are pour over , the drink does take a little longer than your Starbucks or Coffee Bean. The drinks are worth the wait.
If you've never been, make sure your barista knows you need help with how to order. Tesora is their biggest seller. I like Jacobs Wonderbar and a little hazelnut the best. The Mint Mojito is pretty tasty and popular. Its a good drink for a hot Summer day. Philz is really good coffee
I was told this place had great coffee so when we were in the area we decided to give it a try. I walked in and since there are only Starbucks around my area that's what I thought I'd walk into. But it was sooo different. First you stand in line and wait for you own barista to call you, then you give her your order and s/he makes it RIGHT there! In my case I had no idea what I was doing so I asked for some advice and my Barista was amazing and helped me make a decision. This is a COFFEE place and they have so many choices. But I decided on a medium coffee infused with Hazelnut oil. They make each cup to order right there and when it's done they want you to taste it and make sure it doesn't need any more cream or sugar which they will do for you. This cup of coffee was amazing!! My daughter ordered a hot chocolate and that was delicious, they also have different teas which were brewed right there. Everything was so good. Next time we will try the food as well.
Love that San Diego finally has a Philz. Very busy but the wait is not so bad. Has a nice sitting area in front if inside is too crowded. The only downside is the parking lot is small and packed but there's street parking. Coffee always delicious, the mint mojito is a must try.
Coffee at Philz is amazing. My friends and I are not from here and look forward to it every time. Although this time we received poor customer service from Allie. We aren’t used to online ordering and she was very rude while we were waiting patiently to be served.
Beautiful drive to this coffee shop! So pretty near the water. Shop is busy, clean and located in corner. Nice snacks, coffee, tea with seating inside and out. good parking lot size. Had nice meeting there
The coffees are unique and extremely tasty. Service fairly good, but some of the staff go a little overboard on the hipster thing for me. Including the 'life sucks' t-shirt by one of the ladies working there.
Julie's Ultimate my favorite. I used to get sweet and creamy but I found that med/med is better! This location is bright and open on the coast, clean and was an awesome visit!! Both guys that helped me were great! Professional and friendly! I didn't know snoop dog was a piece of the pie in Philz Coffee lol makes me like the coffee more LOL
The cold brew was really good. I love my coffee, and I wasn't disappointed. I haven't tried anything else on the menu yet, but based on my initial experience I'd say this place is pretty legit. I'll be back.
Best coffee in Encinitas! My go-to order is a hot Tesora blend & an iced mint mojito house style. Worth the price of $4-5 per cup.
The best pour over coffee you will ever have. They use heavy whipping cream in their drinks by default if you ask for creamy. You can sub it for milk if you want to. All the blends are organized by roast (light>medium>dark) and there are plenty to choose from. Try one of the special drinks like the Mint Mojito or the Gingersnap (my favorite) and make sure to get some of their bomb toast (go for the Labneh one. It's amazing.). Philz Way = Sweet and Creamy
Custom-made specialty coffees and regular coffee made to order. Honestly some of the best coffee which has had me returning again and again.
At first — this feels like an over priced coffee shop — but it’s not. These folks know exquisite coffee and tea that will make you go “wow”. Service is impeccable. TIP: This is a slow food type of place. They hand pour your coffee and tea — and the line can get long. Chill out — otherwise, go to a fast coffee place for a grab and go.
Philz always delivers consistently great coffee.
I don't really like coffee, BUT the mint mojito with the the Tantalizing Turkish brew is so delicious, to perfection. It's so smooth creamy and flavorful and not sweet. It's the best coffee I've ever had. I wish there was one closer to home.
This is the best place to get a quick coffee fix in before hitting the beach. The most fresh coffee and kind faces work here with so much pride. I love how they remember me even when I come maybe once a week. So much love to them!!
Super chill staff and chill vibes. Like that theyre efficient without prioritizing quantity of customer's over quality for the customers.
Great variety of brews and every cup is brewed pour-over style to order, which I love. Good food as well, though on the pricey side, but not out of line with every other high-end coffee shop. What I particularly love about Philz is the staff and atmosphere. It's a very warm and welcoming environment and is a great spot to hang out or do work.
I was very impressed by my visit. The employees were knowledgeable and very helpful. I like the system they have in place for choosing and ordering coffee. Their selection was great and I received a delicious cup of pour-over coffee. My friend and I sat inside and read until they closed and were quite comfortable as their seating area is quite spacious. They also have lovely patio seating.
Jon here is the man. I ordered a drink hot on accident and he remade it like it was no problem at all, even though it was 100% my fault. Always appreciate kind service, will definitely be back.
This is one of my favorite coffee shops in the country. The employees are awesome and can make anything you could dream of coffee wise. The space is bright and beautiful. Adrian the manager is so kind and I can't wait to visit again in the new year!
this is by far the BEST coffee place I have ever been to. my boyfriend and I love coming here it's so peaceful and the food and drinks are absolutely amazing :) definitely would recommend!!! the service is incredible, everyone there is always in such a good mood and so beyond helpful. one hundred percent making this my regular coffee shop from now on
Sam is AWESOME, she set me up with a Dancing Haze and took such great care of me. Although Philz is technically a coffee shop, I feel like they need their entire own subcategory. This place is super special. Head in with an open mind and let the baristas do what they do best, and you’ll love it.
This place is amazing a small coffee shop along the Pacific Coast Highway 101. The vibe here is extraordinary if you love a good cup of coffee these people go above and beyond to make a stellar cup for sure I really recommend you going by here and checking it out. Peace love and light to all your beautiful people's out there may all your wildest dreams come true.
I should have read reviews a little more closely as I was not prepared that they only serve drip coffee. I will say I thoroughly enjoyed the Tesora, and it was good to get out of my coffee comfort zone. Friendly folks and great atmosphere.
Way better than Starbucks with freshly brewed coffee with amazing flavors. On top of awesome coffee they also have a great selection of food items that are the perfect portion which helps you not feel cruddy after eating. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone to go to and they are sure to find something they like.
Philz Coffee has been a personal favorite of mine for many years and this place serves the same coffee I have enjoyed since my first cup. The outdoor COVID compliant seating is very nice but the parking can be a little cramped so you might have to park in the parking to the side. All in all, very nice coffee and very nice people
I love this place! I don't drink coffee very often but they are so willing to work with making whatever drink I order sweet to my liking. Such friendly people and great customer service and tasty drinks! I got the Philz bagel this time around and it was so delicious, definitely high-quality ingredients. 💛❤️
So unique! Their specialty is pour-over coffee, and they have a large selection of bean blends to choose from; the blends are organized by dark/light and flavor profile. One of my favorite coffee experiences I've ever had.
Excellent coffee and friendly staff. They do have a smaller selection of food but you know this place is all about the coffee. I've been to a few different Philz and was so happy there was one in the North county area. I always have to stop by when I'm in the area. Great coffee!
The rundown of this place is simple: the man who runs the place is a minimalistic genius. He names the coffee based on how he thinks it tastes, and he handpicks every coffee bean. The people who work there are friendly and like to converse. They ask for you to taste the coffee before serving it to you, which i think is totally different from other coffee shops. In addition, all coffee is pour over so it is always freshly made never sitting in a pot. Innovative spot and prices are comparable to starbucks except in cup sizes.
This is not your neighborhood Starbucks. If you are looking for typical lattes and americanos, you are out of luck. But, if you are willing to give it the unique coffee flavors a try, this is a wonderful little spot. BONUS, they have delicious gluten free bread and can make any of their breaded munchies gluten free (Safely!) The staff is patient, friendly and informative. Great little place to grab a coffee and a snack, and get a little work done.
I really enjoy having their coffee again after transplanting from San Francisco. The added ease of parking and open seating arrangement (indoor and outdoor) really makes it an easy decision to just come by and do some work on a nice day, even on the weekend... Let's not bring up that I mentioned work and weekend in the same sentence. 😛
If you love coffee, and you haven't been to a Philz before, you are seriously missing out. The atmosphere is great, although most of the seats are usually taken. Usually a wait in mornings, but the service is unmatched. You get to talk to your own personal barrista and they will make it exactly the way you want it. If you aren't satisfied, they will make you another one until it's your perfect cup of coffee. There a ton of options when it comes to different flavors of coffee. It reminds me of a craft brewery. Very afford as well for what you are getting. I hope they open more in SoCal!
This is the best coffee place in town. What makes it more surprising is that it’s a chain , yet they still take care of their customers and have a consistently good quality. This place is also middle eastern owned so I’d like to help people who have started from nothing. The rose iced coffee is my go to at all times. However they do have a lot of great options that you can get lost by trying to choose which one. Hope this helps.
It’s a cool cafe with yummy coffee and so many different variations. I did think that it was weird that they didn’t have any regular latte so I got coffee with milk. It was more bitter than I’m used to because I don’t use any sweeteners and just drink milk with the coffee. It is at the heart of Encinitas so a great place to walk around and stop by for a coffee and a bite!
Love stopping at Philz as many times as I can when I'm on vacation. This location is great! Quick service and drinks are always fabulous. I love that they like you to try your drink before you walk away. This location is always clean and staff is always friendly.
Best iced coffee I have ever had! I know that sounds dramatic, but each sip I was so impressed. I just moved to town from Portland, OR where we have some awesome coffee and coffee shops! I am so happy I found Philz coffee my first day here. So smooth, so delicious.
Delicious food, coffee and great service. The sandwiches/ breakfast burritos come nice and hot. Coffee comes hot as well. Tried the Tesora roast and bacon egg burrito- both are delicious. Wife got the turkey sausage English muffin. We also tried the almond croissant which is delicious. Even bought some k cups for the house. Can’t wait to come back. If you like great food and coffee- this place is a must try.
Really enjoyed visiting this place. Ordered a delicious iced black tea with a little bit of mint on a humid day. Thus, it was very refreshing. Had customers but wasn't overcrowded and plenty of outdoor seating. Also brought back good memories. Used to occasionally visit Philz Coffee in the Bay Area. That store was excellent was well. Seems to be a well run store chain.
Needed a pick me up and I don’t drink coffee. I’m solely a tea person so I didn’t expect much ordering tea at a coffee shop. But I was so surprised and impressed with the black tea w/ splash of cream. It was the best cup of tea I’ve ever had and I drink tea everyday. Attention to detail with two fresh mint leaves really elevated it. So delicious.
Cute coffee shop in Encinitas! ☕️ Perfect spot to take a break or get some work done. Cozy atmosphere with a lovely vibe. Definitely a great little place to relax for a bit! i love to try all the blends they have
A locals favorite. You can see this as soon as you walk in! Fantastic coffee! Who needs a latte when the coffee tastes this good. Drip coffee made one cup at a time here. Love it! Oh, and the beach is two blocks away!
One of the coolest coffee spots I’ve been to in a while. Friendly staff, great coffee. Love the setup. If I lived in Encinitas it’d be my go to spot. I came in on a Sunday morning around 8:00am. I imagine anytime after 9:00 would be pretty busy. Overall well done, you’ll see me again sometime for sure 👌
One of the best cups of coffee, keep in mind the coffee here is really strong compare to other coffee shops. Highly recommend, Tesora drinks, half cream, half milk. That’s my favorite. But they are more well know for the mint mojito iced coffee.
Been wanting I come here for a while now. I ordered a tantalizing Turkish large coffee, omg I would compare it to an Americano, but with a bolder deep rich flavor. I'm totally sold. Amazing helpful customer service... Thanks
Get the iced tesora coffee with milk and honey super sweet and light!! A great pick me up and literally one of my favorite drinks from here!
One of the best coffee I've ever had. It was my first time to order the Silken Splendor coffee and true to it's name, it was smooth like silk. I also had the iced Gingersnap coffee but it had too much spices that it made it too grainy to drink. The wait was long because there were mobile orders before me and they brew to order. It's pricier than your average coffee shop but it's worth it due to the fact that it's fresh and has a great taste.
Great space with top notch coffee. The Wi-Fi was 240/20. Good seating.
I ordered an iced Mocha Tesora and it was the perfect balance of chocolate and coffee. The roast itself is smooth and not bitter at all. It was my first time trying Philz coffee and it did not disappoint.
The staff at Philz is totally dialed in to the coffee experience! Single cup pour over, totally interactive, cream in just the right amount. And each barrista had the own custom name plaque. Interactions were great!
A quiet place to have an excellent cup of coffee. Cookies and snacks available.

I loved this place so much! Very big menu . I had the rose latte, hubby had the Honey haze and my teenager had the chai latte with oat milk. All iced ,all delicious. I had a bacon breakfast burrito, I would highly recommend it.
Always amazing coffee. Go to is the philtered soul. I got silken splendor this time and also enjoyed it. The seasonal caramel coffees right now are delicious. Good service and good coffee. Goes great after a good surf sesh.
Whoever does the hiring at the Del Mar location should get a raise. To a person, the staff is warm, friendly, and engaging. I feel welcomed every time I walk in and am greeted with smiles and friendly banter.

As others have mentioned, if you want anything than a pour over then you’re out of luck. If you want milk or sugar a merry dance back and forth between you and the barista is required; because at 45 years of age the owner apparently believes I have yet to acquire skills needed to add my own. My third attempt yielded enough of both to adequately adjust the taste. Apparently they want the coffee to be to their liking, a battle for which I am well equipped. I think the thought process might be simplicity. But it simply is not simple; the wife’s black tea having a ‘me too’ moment as it was assaulted by not one but two sprigs of mint, an attack which, when combined with foamed milk, left her heading back inside with a look of abject dismay furrowing her English Teasmith brow. The Barista’s, unable to fully explain their terrible decisions, placated the wife with a new cup that remained black tea, untrainted by alleyway herbs or other such adornments. To their credit, they did send her back to the patio with a rather wonderful complimentary almond croissant and tales of how nice and friendly the Tea Error PR Department could be. Sarcasm aside, they have an array of coffee flavours to choose from, a slick system of getting the line up dealt with every bit as efficiently as Star*ucks and some tasty, albeit pricy, baked goods. Once I got used to what to ask for to get my coffee nailed first time I’d probably quite like it.
Popular spot based on the line. Loved how they setup their orders by first name. Social distancing outside while you wait and window viewing for your order. Interesting drink choices. I gave it a 4 only because I wish the cardamon was a little more bold in their Philharmonic drink. Its a medium roast. Philz is about customization so took me a little while to figure out how I needed to setup my coffee. I do like that they have you in mind. They are known for their little mint touch. If that appeals to you come check out Philz in Encinitas or their other SD locations in Del Mar or La Jolla. Not my favorite cardamom coffee, but not bad coffee.
I gave this a little lower rating on the coffee because they don't indicate the origin of the beans for the coffee. So you don't have a clue if you are getting beans reflective of the pricing. Their tasting notes on the board and the menu were different so they obviously change up beans but keep the same name. So buyer beware
Coffee here gets me wired. Service is great and the coffee is tasty. I'm a medium roast guy, so I like the greater alarm. Sometimes it can take a while to get a cup, so it's not the place to go if you're in a hurry.
Great coffee! Love the iced coffee, especially filtered soul. They have pretty good breakfast burritos too!
Pretty good coffee in the center of town. I got one of the cold brew options. It was a bit sweet for me, but the vibe of the coffee shop was very good, and walkable to everything
My companions and I ordered the mint mojito iced coffee. I ordered it the regular Phil's way but I should've ordered it a bit on the sweeter side. It was still good but I would've preferred it a bit sweeter next time. But such a fun and refreshing drink.

Good coffee and nice vibe. Don't bother ordering any food. I had an almond croissant that was stale and my friend ordered a breakfast burrito which look like it had been frozen.
Went to their location in Encinitas on highway 101. They had a homeless man living in their coffee shop. The bathroom was a mess, apparently he took a shower in there. When I mention it to the manager she said she knew about it but did nothing about it. . He had like five large bags around a chair he was sitting on.
I usually love philz and their customer service and friendliness but was sadly disappointed with this location. I tried this location and had a bad experience the first time and decided to give it a second try. I was again disappointed by the customer service. Really want to love this location but might stick to my Del Mar location.
We dropped by this coffee shop for an afternoon pick-me-up before we head out to the beach. Ordered Dancing Water black and Silken Splendor with milk. The coffee is as good as the one in Fullerton. The beans are blends, and the barista didn't explain the origins of the beans.

Not what I expected really, I didnt realize that their coffees were flavored. when I asked them what the descriptions were in the menu, the barista told me they were subtle undertones making me think it would be just coffee beans. Instead they were actual flavorings added to beans and the flavor wasnt subtle either, the coffee was no different then cheap flavored beans you can get in any grocery store.
In town looking for a great pour-over coffee place that's on par with your favorite place back home? Unfortunately Philz isn't it. Their menu and upscale pricing leads you to believe their coffee will be top notch. Ice coffee is not cold brew, just iced coffee. Also was really disappointed in a bag of beans we purchased. For starters, they sold us beans in a standard zip lock back because they were out of real bags. And in the end were just unimpressed with the beans. Felt like this was just another cup of coffee, nothing special. Their roasts are all dark. Even something advertised as light, is actually dark. Similar to how Starbucks roasts beans, so dark that you really can't taste nuances. With that said, if you're looking for something more like Starbucks (and less like Blue Bottle or Stump town), then you might be into Philz.
I used to really enjoy this coffee shop. It’s close to the beach, has a cozy and comfortable design, and the coffee has always tasted great. The atmosphere used to make it one of my favorite spots to relax. Unfortunately, over the past few months the experience has changed. The shop often has a very strong and unpleasant odor, which seems to come from some of the chairs absorbing smells after being occupied for long periods of time by some people (who I cannot label them with words to respect them and also to comply with Google reviews policies). Some times we are even hesitant to sit on some chairs when seeing such inside the store. This makes it difficult to enjoy sitting inside, and it takes away from what used to be a very welcoming environment. I truly hope management can address this issue with respect and effective resolution, because this place has so much potential and I’d love to go back to enjoying it the way I used to.

Terrible experience this morning at Philz Encinitas. The lady taking orders was incredibly rude to start with. After waiting for 25 minutes for my coffee and burrito (which is fine because I understand that during these difficult times and less staff things take a little longer than usual and allowing myself more than enough time to visit) Upon inquiry they hadn’t even made my order at all, at which point I was running incredibly late for work. I asked politely for a refund - which they couldn’t seem to do on the spot and told me just to come back another time and they’d take care of me. I honestly would have just liked a refund - they made no note of my transaction or issue so not entirely sure how that works out the next time I stop by?! After several unpleasant experiences here now ...Unfortunately this will be my last visit to Philz Encinitas.
I love your coffee and the way each cup is made special, so good. My post is not about service, its always great but is there any type of dress code for employees. I know the Encinitas store is at the beach but picture this, a sloppy T-shirt, belly showing, vertical smile exposed from jeans too small and hickies on the neck! C’mon man!
I love Philz Coffee, but had an unpleasant experience today when I went there to get my coffee and I saw the barista petting a dog and then going back to prepare the coffee without washing her hands. 👎🏻
I is usually seek out Philz as a cool spot to hang in Encinitas with a friendly and welcoming vibe. however I was really taken back by the lack of personality the employees displayed on my recent trip in. There was no hello, there was no hey your order is ready, and there was no taste it let me know what you think! All the basic things you’d expect from an employee..my grandma and I won’t be back. Used to love Philz for the coffee AND the environment. The two employees working couldn’t stop complaining about their scheduling enough to take our orders and call out our drinks from the bar. Such a bummer to see as it’s a prime location with great coffee. But there are 20 other coffee shops near by that have created a better environment and have employees who care. May be over stepping? But I was a huge Philz fan until my recent trip in.
I don’t know why this place has high stars. The breakfast burrito was subpar and the coffee was like water with no flavor. This place was kinda dirty, the tables and floors need to be cleaned. I don’t mean to be cruel, but the interior looks like it was decorated by kids. I was just expecting more. Oh well
Love the coffee but the baristas were none responsive. They were busy with making coffees and didn’t even say “I’ll be right with you shortly”. Barista responded to me with a “mhmm” instead of a solid “yes” when I asked a question. Immature and rude employees.
Nine times out of ten the person taking my order is literally the rudest, most unfriendly person. It’s like the opposite of in n out, you have to have massive RBF and hate eye contact to work here 😅
Maggie literally ignored me when I asked for a straw acted like I wasn’t infront of her asking and the cashier had to come kindly to assist me because Maggie acted like she didn’t wanna help me or didn’t care to help definitely was a bad experience. Would never come back.
