Opinions de Pacific Coast Grill Cardiff-by-the-Sea
Delicious food served by genuinely nice staff, with an ocean view of surfers - what's not to love? And valet parking in a very crowded beach scene as a bonus. A little pricey, but it's Cardiff, so... not unusual, and really worth it. We've been several times for lunch, and it's consistently good.
Excellent food and great views but the service was the best part. We had a large party with food allergies. Our server was super attentive, ensured everyone avoided the foods they shouldn't have, and was very friendly and helpful. We had steak, seafood, appetizers and desserts and everything was delicious.
Really excellent place with great atmosphere ditectly at the fantastic beach side with amazing waves and even dolphins. Portions are big (even too big for us Europeans) and delicious. We had the grilled Filet Mignon, chicken fingers, Filet Mignon slider, Tahitian ice cream and zhe Creme Brulet. All fantastic.
What a magic evening! Started with a Blackberry Rita and Shrimp dumplings. The sweet wine sauce over the dumplings seconded as a dipping sauce for the warm bread they bring to your table. The lobster, shrimp bisque soup was delicious. The greens are a perfect compliment. Charles was kind and knowledgeable about all things Pacific coast and quick to smile or suggest a specialty dish or drink. I was glad I made a reservation, and I suggest you use the valet when parking your car. Be prepared to spend some money, but it's well worth it!
We were touring the West coast of the USA with my family and I was looking for a nice restaurant with a view and selected Pacific Coast Grill. This restaurant did not disappoint! It was one of the best we had food in on this coast, not only for the quality of the food but also for the FANTASTIC view and location. I would highly recommend it !
The atmosphere is nice. The view is oceanfront very beautiful. The food is good, lots of amazing seafood options. Appetizers even include sushi, dumplings, truffle fries and more. The drinks are good, margaritas and the mai tai is delicious. The service is good, nice people that work there.
My family and I wanted to see the beautiful sunset and eat a great meal. We came in with very casual attire and had delicious food and drinks. Great place for upscale menu items in a cozy and upscale atmosphere. The sunset was quite nice as well since this restaurant was located right on the beach!!! We had the oysters (best I’ve ever had), dumplings, filet mignon, Chilean Seabass, Moonlight roll and dungeons crab cakes. There’s so many more dishes that we wanted to try but our bellies couldn’t hold anymore. Looks like we’ll be going back!!
PCG is a whole package. The food, the view and the whole vibe is amazing. The drinks are strong and definitely hit you when you are staring at the waves crashing on the beach. we had a couple of vegetarian people in our group and if you have too, don't forget to ask for the vegetarian menu. we loved everything that we ordered.
It was my special friend's birthday, our first visit, my treat, and they did not disappoint us! The valet parking was $8 so we could make our window/ocean view reservation! The waiter was a mindreader extraordinaire! Everything was perfect from the guacamole & chips appetizer to the free, birthday dessert of passion fruit cheesecake (substituted for the usual, white chocolate bread pudding)! The decaf coffee was so tasty that I wanted to purchase it for home use!😁 The birthday 'girl' was happy so the afternoon was a success! 🎊💯🔥✅️✝️
What an amazing place to eat on the coast. Cardiff is such a neat area north of San Diego and this grill serves up some great food. The staff was very friendly and gave us excellent service. I had the seafood pasta that had halibut, shrimp, lobster and scallions. It was really good and the portion was perfect. Will eat here again when back in Cardiff.
Open air patio dining, great food, and fabulous service. Our waiters are top notch, know our preferences by heart, and make superb recommendations that have never dissapointed. We have a standing reservations for our gals group and working our way to the menu. PG has done an excellent job of adhering to Covid health and safe dining while preserving the elegance of atmosphere and ocean front dining! So check out today's sunset!!
PCG is one of our favorite go-to spots. The food is always so fresh and delicious. We started with the crab guacamole which was good. I had the lobster tacos which were super unique while my husband has the Seabass, which was fantastic. The star of the show was the cocktails. My husband loves Bourbon and said that the PCG’s Manhattan is the best drink he’s ever had! We sat at the bar and the service was great, as always.
It came very highly recommended and exceeded our expectations. Excellent, excellent service, pleasing upscale beach decor, and a jaw dropping on the beach sunset - see my photos taken from our table. All six of us claimed to have the best entree. And that included the veggie selections. We finished with coconut cheese cake and creme brulee. Even the valet team was exceptional. A perfect family birthday celebration.
Came here about an hour before close on a Sunday as I was just leaving the beach. A last minute table opened up with a view of the ocean which made the dining experience all the more wonderful. The drinks and food were wonderful and the service was amazing. I will definitely be back to enjoy another meal here. Valet parking was convenient and easy to pay by cash or card.
Fantastic food and drinks. Great view on the ocean. Breeze can be chilly depending on the time of day so wear a jacket/layer.
The food and the ambiance here was amazing. We tried several different dishes one evening and came back the next day for lunch. They were all spectacular... Although the hostesses were a little snotty about giving us a table with an ocean view on the patio. The wait staff was spectacular. And the food was way better than the chart House next door but much more reasonable be priced
Enjoyed a wonderful lunch and I had the Longboard Roll. The presentation was exquisite. The fish tasted exceptionally fresh and had great flavor. The views are amazing. I only marked the food down to a four because the prices are just a little bit high. #PacificCoastGrill #sushi
Weirdly the best sushi I’ve had in all of north county. Wouldn’t expect that, but their rolls are killer, with excellent fresh fish and a garlic chili sauce that’s amazing. Simply Amazing service and the sea bass entree was on point. Great view of the ocean right on the front steps of the restaurant.
Great place to eat! And to bring a date. The ambiance was excellent. Our waiter, Cesar, was on point with the service. Gave really good recommendations. And the beachside view was the best! We got the lobster & steak, and a couple of margaritas and a beer. The cheesecake dessert was fantastic, as well. I highly recommend this restaurant. Excellent choice! *Update. February 2025, we returned for an early Valentine's Day date. Tried the Seabass Tacos/Crispy Calamari/Lobster & Shrimp Chowder. Delicious! And as before, the ambiance was excellent. We love coming here. Return customers.
It's one one my top places to for fine dining. The portions are generous - and hope the restaurant doesn't mind my sharing this info - my friend and I split an appetizer, salad and seafood entree. It was plenty, and it made the check very reasonable. Think valet parking was the only option when we were there - if you're comfortable with that.
The Pacific Coast Grill has the most stunning views for both indoor and outdoor dining. We went for lunch and the food was delicious and service was superb. The wait for valet was a little long around lunchtime but it was only $7 and a super easy experience! We're already planning our next trip back for a sunset date!
Huge fan of this place. As a local, this is one of my top choices in north county. Stunning views, consistently delicious food, and great service. Everything here is good, but I especially enjoy their margaritas, truffle French fries, the miso glazed Sea bass and oysters Good place to have a nice date night, or bring the whole family for a great dinner. Also love to bring people from out of town here because of the gorgeous views and consistent service and food! This place sometimes fills up, but there is usually room in the bar. You can also rent the private room upstairs for an event
Mother's Day 2024! Brunch at one of our favorite places to eat in Encinitas - San Diego! Pacific Coast Grill 🔥🔥🔥 Awesome views, service, vibes and of course, The Food! 👏🏽 👏🏽 Second year and second Mother's Day. This is becoming our Mother's Day brunch tradition. Definitely a must try and will definitely be back again We are fans We love this place until the next time!
Just go! We first walked in, and we were greeted by a very happy and inviting hostess who took us to an amazing table with a beautiful view of the sunset. Our waiter was very attentive, and the service was second to none. Our food was fit for royalty. The presentation to the taste was right out of a dream. Finally, we wrapped up with the best creme Brulee I've ever enjoyed. An absolute must for a great meal with a beautiful view.
This restaurant is such a delight on all accounts! Definitely request to sit outside on the patio and at dinner is such a nice time to see the sunset and beach outside while eating. Views were phenomenal! The food was also delicious. We had the seafood paella and the tuna tower as an appetizer. Both had really good flavor and were filling. It was more than enough for 2 people and we’d love to go back to try more. We also had a couple of their margaritas - they have so many options and the 2 we tried were no exception! It is a pricey spot but great for a special occasion and would love to try more options.
Good view and have only been for lunch. Should try a dinner some time when they open up the upstairs. I highly recommend the lobster and shrimp chowder which is fantastic. The sunshine roll is the most unique sushi roll on the menu and always delightful. We decided to try the bag o bonz hawaiian style baby back ribs which were tender and saucy but too salty. They give hot wet towels to clean up with which is nice. $7 valet if you don’t feel like trying to find a spot along the road to park. Large wine list but full bar for you adult beverage needs.
Love this place. We just went back for our 2nd visit and the food, service and atmosphere were so enjoyable, again. The Coconut Crab Crusted Mahi Mahi and Soy-Ginger Braised Short Ribs are delicious. Everything from the valet to the view is great. Pacific Coast Grill is doing it right.
I spent dinner trying to look up this chef because I was convinced he had to be famous. The food was some of the most interesting, innovative, and downright delicious I’ve had in a long time. Every dish felt creative and perfectly executed, and the seafood was unbelievably fresh. For the area, I cannot believe how reasonable the pricing was also. Everyone in the front of house was attentive and welcoming. If you don’t finish your meal with the crème brûlée, you’re missing out.
We went here for the first time with our family celebrating my wife's birthday! We requested outside seating but it was not guaranteed. Understandable since people tend to sit much longer outdoor to enjoy the beach. Inside is nice as well. Food was amazing. Lots of dishes with Asian fusion. This makes the dishes much more tasty. With bok choy and soba noodles and Thai sauce. Very creative! The hot rock ahi appetizer is fun. Must try the crab cake! You can valet park or just park at the free lot next door on the right if there's parking available. Definitely a great place.
Absolutely breathtaking views of the ocean, especially from the patio. The Yellowtail and Filet Mignon was delicious with decent portions. Good beverage menu and plenty of chilled and hot appetizers. The staff was very friendly and helpful. A great location for anniversaries, birthdays or special occasions.
Went to Pacific Coast for Valentine’s Day and we were blown away! The view, the service, the atmosphere, and the food were all spectacular. It was nice to be offered affordable valet parking in that area. The food was cooked perfectly and the dessert was yummy. I can’t wait to go back!
Made a last minute decision to stop for a little food. This is a nice spot to have a wonderful meal while watching the surfers enjoy the waves. Beautiful restaurant. All servers we encountered were pleasant and were working as a team. Food was delicious. Great experience!
Came here two days ago for my birthday dinner with my boyfriend. Had a great view of the ocean, great service, and even greater food! The blackberry margarita and the plum-ginger short ribs were SO amazing, I’m still thinking about it. Can’t wait to come back here the next time I’m in the area!
Beautifully renovated restaurant. The atmosphere especially outdoor on the patio or upstairs on the balcony is amazing. You can't beat this place at sunset! I tried the paella here for the first time and was pleasantly surprised. The steak and lobster is also another one of my favorites.
Wow! We thought this place was closed for renovation but it's quite open, although not in every area. We had a surf-side seat outside with have us an unobstructed view of the ocean. Everything we experienced was fantastic! Just be aware this is a mandatory valet parking lot ($8). Our food was absolutely superb and reasonable considering the venue location. Service was attentive, friendly and professional. This was our first visit here and certainly won't be our last! Highly recommended!
Beautiful ocean views and restaurant decor. Friendly attentive staff. Lots of cocktails to choose from. Calamari was delicious as was the seafood Cobb and sea bass entree. Yellowtail sashimi roll was great! Nice way to spend an early afternoon. Easy valet parking that won't break the bank at $8. It's not that pricey if you consider the quality of food and location. Definitely come here for lunch when you're in the area. Oceanfront dining with delicious mouth watering food. What more can you want!
Definitely recommend sitting outside even if it is chilly! The staff was so kind & they set up 3 heaters for us. Service was great & food was excellent. We split the crab cakes. I ordered char-grilled Salmon & my husband ordered the Seafood Paella - both delicious! Bar tender also made an incredible dirty martini!
We love this place! It was our first date almost 9 years ago. I dream about the seafood Cobb salad. Yesterday was the perfect time to enjoy it once again. It is always a pleasant experience, especially when you’re admiring the ocean.
So happy we missed our bus! Decided to walk instead of wait. Things happen for a reason. We stopped at Pacific Coast Grill to wet our thirsty palate and have an appetizer. Bar downstairs was packed. Hostess shared there was a bar upstairs with an even better view of the ocean. Score! The bar upstairs had an amazing view!!! Ordered short rib empanadas and wow! The empanadas were orgasmic! Enjoyed light hearted conversation with the other customers and bartender. We had a really nice experience before catching the bus right outside the restaurant back to our hotel. That was convenient!
Came here with my husband for our anniversary and it was the best experience. Ruby was our waitress and she was very friendly and attentive. Food and wine is worth the price. Enjoyed dinner with a view of the sunset and waves of the ocean. We got a complimentary dessert which was so nice. Definitley come here and try this place out. You will love it
How have I not been here since it was Beach House. Right on the beach, crowded at lunch and dinner, valet parking at just $8. And the food matches the atmosphere. I had the Pacific Seafood Cobb salad. Mounded crab, perfectly grilled shrimp, blue cheese crumbles, properly dressed with 1000 (amazing how many places don't know how to dress a salad). Utterly delicious. My wife had the Lobster and Shrimp Deluxe sandwich. Very garlic forward, FULL of lobster, avocado, shrimp, lettuce and a garlic aioli. Again utterly delicious and served with excellent Kennebec fries. We were there for lunch, will be back for dinner.
The food and drinks here are phenomenal! The seats outside or near the windows remind me of the marine room, especially during high tide. My husband and I like to come here for little celebrations and am never disappointed. We have tried numerous appetizers, meals, and cocktails, all of which tasted delicious. Their seafood dishes are unbeatable. The service is always friendly and quick. The valet price is reasonable too.
This is by far the best restaurant in the San Diego area. My party of 2 made a reservation for a Friday night, got there on time and requested an outside table. 5 mins later we were sat directly on the beach line, the best view ever. The entire staff was so friendly, didn’t rush us, and they even give blankets to those who get cold during the evening. We ordered the calamari, oysters, sunshine roll, the scallops, and the pan seared Seabass. Everything was delicious, but next time I think we’ll request the roll without the nuts on it (personal preference). All in all, such a special spot. A must go to!!!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Our family had the most amazing first experience at **Pacific Coast Grill**! From the moment we walked in, we were impressed. The restaurant was spotless, the atmosphere was welcoming, and every employee we encountered was respectful and kind. The view absolutely stole our hearts — being so close to the water while watching the waves roll in and surfers catching waves made our lunch unforgettable. There’s nothing like enjoying incredible food with that kind of oceanfront scenery! Speaking of food — everything was delicious. Every bite was flavorful and perfectly prepared. A huge shoutout to our server, Jules K, who truly went above and beyond to take care of our family. Jules paid attention to every detail and followed all of our requests perfectly. To top it all off, they surprised me with a birthday cake — such a thoughtful and special touch! The dessert was absolutely delicious and made the celebration even more memorable. Thank you for the amazing food, beautiful atmosphere, and outstanding service. We will definitely be coming back! 🌊🎂
It was not crowded, they special menus made only for Valentine’s Day. We ordered the pan seared scallops, two different kinds of sushi and crème brûlée. The outdoor patio was nice, warm and the luminous birds by the ocean are beautiful, they looked like fireflies above the ocean. The service was great, the staff were nice and friendly.
We went here for a pre-Vday celebration and had such an enjoyable time! The restaurant was fully booked so we found a table in the bar area with a fabulous view of the ocean. Our waitress, Ashley, was so amazing! She was kind, genuine, humorous, attentive & gave good recommendations on food & drinks. Roberto was attentive in keeping dishes cleared & truly a genuinely good guy also. Any staff that we interacted with were kind & courteous. The food was DELICIOUS!! We had the Cardiff Reef Roll & the Sea Dragon Roll. Sea Dragon was the bomb!! We would definitely recommend this restaurant & hopefully you to will have the pleasure of having Ashley as your server. I'm sure we'll return here again!
The restaurant is right by the ocean which provides an amazing view especially during the sunset. In my prior experiences, being near ocean justified not having the best food quality, however here the food is the main focus and I was blown by its taste and quality👌, service was also great! I had the sesame seared Ahi and my wife had the short rib, both dishes were delicious and tastefully designed👌
Great visit to PCG! We were seated at a nice large booth though it was near the door to the outdoor seating area which created a draft every time the door was opened. Everything else however from the service to the food was excellent. We enjoyed shrimp dumplings as an appetizer along with our three entree's. The Coconut Crab Crusted Mahi Mahi, Sesame-Crusted Seared Ahi and the star of the evening, the Pacific Paella which was incredible! We split our White Chocolate Bread Pudding three ways and enjoyed a beautiful sunset.
We visited 2026/01/25. What a wonderful surprise!! We were at a nearby nature reserve and just GOOGLED restaurants nearby, several options but chose this beautiful beachside grill. There are tables inside and outside on the beach with great views. Plenty of parking (paid valet or nearby paid beach parking). We were greeted with smiles and kindness from all, valet, receptionist, servers. Busy lunch crowd, however there was no wait. We were seated outside with beach view! Luckily it was a sunny cool breeze California day. Our server came by quickly, huge smile as well, took our drink order and returned within a few minutes with our cocktails (Blackberry Margarita** so good and Moscow Mule with Bourbon). Our food order was taken, again with kindness and a smile. These are important things that we have noticed had been lacking at many restaurants we'd visited. Justin was just amazing! He was attentive throughout entire lunch. Now the BEST part, the FOOD!! We ordered Crispy Cornmeal Calamari for appetizer, WOW, sooooo fresh, so good!! For lunch we ordered Lobster & Shrimp Deluxe Sandwich and the Smashburger, both with fries. AMAZING, so much flavor and freshness! Lobster/Shrimp Sandwich was full of lobster and shrimp in every bite! Grilled, buttered wheat toast, bacon, avocado, tomatoes, sprouts and garlic mayo!! OMG it was the best seafood sandwich I've ever had (and I lived in FLA for 44+ years where seafood was everywhere). We landlocked Denver folks were so impressed and so grateful we chose Pacific Coast Grill!! We will definitely be back!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Totally worth the prices!!!!
First we were greeted by two hostesses who were exceedingly friendly and welcoming. No wait, first it was the valets, who were professional while also jovial-- then the nice hostesses. Our servers were Gabby and a man whose name I didn't catch. They were both thorough, gave excellent suggestions, were attentive without being in our faces, and a big sticking point for me: my iced tea was constantly being refilled. Super happy with both of them! The food was fantastic. The guac had a perfect kick, which too many places are afraid to give it. The house salad dressing had all of the flavor of a creamy ranch, but without the awful sodium levels of bottled. The primo dip was absolutely delicious- the beef was tender, and the bread... oh my gosh the bread was heavenly. And of course the view was unbeatable; literally inches from the sand. This is one of those places that deserves more than 5 stars all around!
Our experience here was amazing. Wife and I had lunch on a Saturday and were seated outside near the beach. Watched surfers and others play in the water while we enjoyed chips and guac, sushi rolls, frnch dip, and patty melt. Gabby and Dan were great servers with the right amount of attentive service. Sushi roll was really just okay but everything else was really good. Thanks Gabby and Dan for a great first experience here. Oh - use the valet parking service if you want a painless parking experience.
I grew up in San Diego so I have been coming to Pacific Coast Grill since I was in high school. They recently did a major remodel so this visit was the first being after the new construction. I think they did a wonderful job with it and really expanded to it. The brick wall in the front looks really great and they added a lot more seating. I did not get a chance to take a look at what they added upstairs, but the restaurant itself looks a lot better than it used to and the menu is still refreshingly huge and has lots of great options. They don’t have a dedicated parking lot so the best option is to do valet. Parking on this stretch of the 101 can be a bit tricky. We sat outside in the back with our table closest to the water as possible. We heard the ocean waves crashing during our entire meal and it was just a really tranquil and wonderful setting enjoying the beautiful San Diego evening. Our server was very polite and everything that we ordered came out very fast. For this visit, I started off with a Dungeness Crab Guacamole, and loved it. They really gave a lot of crab and I felt the portion size was very generous. I would highly recommend. Next, I ordered the Lobster and Shrimp Chowder and I thought this one was just OK. I think it would’ve been a lot better if it would have been a bisque or had more of a sherry flavor or just something different. I thought it was a little bland so I would not recommend this one. For my entrée, I chose the Alaskan Halibut because of shrimp scampi and Parmesan risotto that came with it, and all three were a great combination. This was a great end of the meal and I would definitely order it again next time I visit even though they’re probably most famous for their Seafood Paella. Overall a fantastic San Diego dinner or lunch option, someplace I have been going to for over a decade and will continue to go to.
This place is just wonderful, Amazing view with great service. We had fried calamari & paella 🥘 but I don't recommend the paella it was super salty & full of sauce. Fried calamari was super delicious 😋. The waiters are so kind & helpful. The service is great & fast. They also treated us with complimentary cheesecake for my wife birthday.
Night did not go quite as planned, but server Jenna made up for it by providing outstanding attention and understanding. I let her pick the meal, and Chef Humberto did not disappoint! Amazing food; great location and views. Cloud cover did not allow for the Sunset views, but that couldn't be helped. I would highly recommend PCG for a meal, and for the atmosphere. Props to Jenna who helped make an awkward situation into a positive!
I had my birthday here, the service was pretty good, the table very close to the beach/ water. I've been sitting outside, but i wish they can asked me if i want to sit inside, outside is cool, but a little loud for me. Food was good, and they gave me a free dessert which is very nice.

Best lunch spot with a view in upper San Diego. The ocean waves crash as you dine in or outside, either way it’s gorgeous. The food was excellent and the only reason for 4 stars is the waiter took 25 minutes to take our food order. That being said they were pretty busy, so could have just been understaffed for the day. I’ve been here one other time and it was a 5 star experience. The fish tacos, chicken tacos, and sea bass are all incredible.
Gorgeous view. Good patio with heaters. They have an entire GF and vegetarian menu you just have to ask for it. They have a few vegan options too. Let them know what you need, they are very happy to accommodate. They do have a great drink menu with tibs of margaritas to choose from.
Spectacular view and vibe! Wow! Excellent service! Although there was a 4% surcharge on our bill that we questioned and our waitress who was excellent explained that was Covid era service charge and she offered to take it off. We were very appreciative and she was a great server. The drinks we lovely and the food presentation was beautiful. The portion sizes were quite large and very appetizing. The consensus on the flavor was overall a 4 …I got the Alaskan halibut and it could have used a little crisp on it and that took away overall from the flavor. Great, lovely and lively crowd. Overall a great spot !!
Stopped in here for a quick lunch after picking my mom up from the airport. Although they were busy, they weren't super busy, even though their small valet-only parking lot was crammed with cars! We parked next door in the beach parking lot for FREE - although I think we were supposed to pay lol...oops. We sat outside. It was a perfect 70° outside (as always in San Diego) and not a cloud in the sky. We just ordered the large Clam Chowder bowl ($15) and the Fish & Chips ($22.50). My mom said the chowder was good. My fish were pretty small, but they were hot and the batter was tasty. The coleslaw that came on the plate was a disaster. No mayo at all and the cabbage was turning color (meaning they made it probably a few days ago). Not good at all. The fries however were tasty and crunchy. So, not bad, but I would order something else if we ever came back. Service was good and the view was phenomenal. Definitely get a table outside if you can and it's not cold or windy and they have tables literally next to the sand, or they have some set back a ways by the wall/windows...whatever your preference. They also do have heaters overheard. Our bill total was $52.67. Not bad, but I did notice a 4% surcharge that I didn't see when I initially paid the bill. It was only $1.88 but I just don't understand why restaurants do this. Gives you that icky feeling.
Beautiful oceanfront and beach view through the large glass windows. The Seafood Pasta was very tasty and we both enjoyed how fresh it was. The fish taco was ok, a bit on the dry side. Service was fairly quick at noon on the weekdays. Free soda refills. The atmosphere was nice. Valet parking only at restaurant. Paid street parking and paid beach parking lot next to restaurant are also an option for bigger vehicles like SUV and RVs. Bar service inside. Restrooms are clean.
We had a great lunch. We shared golden lobster clam chowder. Followed by baked sea bass with excellent mash potatoes & sautéed spinach. The fish was served with a tomato garlic white sauce. We also shared the ribeye sandwich. It was good but I would not order it again. The duece de leche cream brûlée was wonderful as was our server Daniel S. He provided fine dining service. The restaurant is nice with spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean.
Food was delicious. The portions were smaller than expected (perfect for me), but good for the price point. Drinks were enjoyed by all. Desserts were just ok. Good service. Missed the sunset, but wound have been able to see it from our table.
We had a reservation for lunch and were sat within 5 minutes. A lovely place. Food was typical and fine for such a place. Was very surprised how busy (packed) it was at12:30 for lunch on a Thursday. It is a really loud spot if you came to have lunch with friends and want to talk and catch up; may find that challenging. Could not sit outside as it was kinda grey day and they had everything covered up. Plus you are right next to ocean- so that has its own noise level. Beautiful view.
Great place to go for a nice meal and view. I really loved the views and location. I went during lunch and enjoyed everything we ordered. I walked out after to get a close up view of the ocean. I watched the surfers through the window during my meal which was fun. Service was good and we were checked on frequently.
You can't beat the amazing atmosphere and service. Our food was really great too. Had cocktails which were good. The ahi tuna tower was really good, scallops were excellent, paella was almost perfect, but the lobster was over cooked and tough. The service was excellent. Adam was our server and he had great recommendations and wonderful vibe. They adjusted and made accommodations for our children. The scallops were great! The bread pudding was good. But the best part was the ocean view from the patio. The sunset was gorgeous! The perfect place to have an oceanside lunch or dinner.
We enjoyed lunch at the Pacific Coast Grill (2526 Coast Highway 101). Parking is by valet ($8) only. Watching him maneuvering the cars in a very tight parking lot is worth the cost :) . The location is gorgeous, directly on the beach. We ordered Rombauer Sauvignon Blanc and their Poke Bowl along with their Lobster & Shrimp deluxe sandwich. For desert we had their hot apple pie with vanilla ice cream and brown sugar crumble. The Rombauer was delightful. The Poke Bowl was excellent. The Lobster & Shrimp sandwich was good. It was mostly shrimp and served warm. It actually tasted better when it cooled off. The apple pie was a real treat. The vanilla was very creamy and hot apple chunks delicious with the crumble topping.

I would come here for the view, but not for the food. Out of the four entrées we tried, none were noteworthy and about the same as you would prepare at home. The hostess was a little snotty; not only to me, but to others that were being seated. My reason for not going back would be the 4% surcharge that was on my bill. The waitress said that it was to cover operational costs and without even asking she removed it from my bill. I later, checked the menu and saw the footnote about the 4% surcharge to cover increased operational cost, but if that were true, and you went to the trouble of printing it on the menu, then why not just increase all of the prices on the menu to reflect true prices instead of trying to hide it? I eat out hundreds of times per year and these kinds of things just personally bug me…there are plenty of other places that are more honest about their pricing, and have better food.
Love everything about this restaurant. Sitting outside on the patio at sunset is absolutely magical. Food is great, just pricey. But with the atmosphere, worth it I think. Update for last visit.: I have to change my review to reflect our last visit. We arrived 10 minutes before our reservation time. We were kept waiting 30 minutes for a patio table before we let the hostess know there were two empty tables the entire 30 minutes we'd been waiting. She told us they were being held for "another" party. From there we waited another 20 minutes before letting them know now those 2 were still open plus another. So 3 for the last 20 minutes. Exasperated, she again said they were all for someone else. I guess she got tired of us because we were finally allowed to sit almost an hour past our reservation in one of the originally empty tables. This was bad enough but after praising this restaurant as the best around to our out of town guests, it was hard to swallow. To add insult to injury, two of our meals were sub-par and it still cost us as if we'd paid for the top notched restaurant I'd built it up to be.
Wine list was good, but the seafood paella looked and tasted as if the chef couldn’t decide whether to make cioppino or seafood risotto and ended up mashing the two together (and the texture was definitely not a paella). The tomato sauce for the sea bass drowned the fish. Nice view though.
Overall, there are restaurants with better food for cheaper prices out there. Seems like a great view (we dined at night and had an interior table), but the halibut was cold, the paella was mostly tomato sauce, and the blood orange margarita tasted like they waved the orange over the top of the drink. Hidden split plate charges, $10 valet, and a posted 4% operating fee on top of the bill just put it over the top for me. I was traveling for business and probably won't dine here again.
Well, this was a mixed bag experience, and I dine out 2-4 times a week. Mostly coastal restaurants. Pros: Fabulous atmosphere, comfortable chairs, great views, outstanding food preparation and plated presentations. Blood orange margaritas were fabulous. Food was cooked properly. Cons: Overpriced for miniscule fish portion they serve. My Halibut was at best 4 oz. total (we split it) Ridiculous for $48.00!. They did a lot to cover it up with other things so as to not see how tiny the fish portion was. That tiny little white cube you see on top is the Halibut. LOL. Jakes or Poisidon give you a REAL slice of fish. The 2 shrimp on each plate were excellent. Drink prices are also ridiculous. $17-$18 average. I dine out a LOT at fine dining, and this place is expensive. Bread on the side? - $5.00. What topped it off for a overall score of 3 stars was the 4% "additional fee" they added onto the check. I am looking into the legality of that today. No one told me (not waiter, not management) about this ridiculous and non-disclosed extra charge on my bill, which added about $5.00 to my bill.Take THAT times 100+ diners each night and that's ad additional $15,000 of PROFIT per month for the restaurant. Again, I'm looking into that today. Overall: There are better choices for less money.
The good: Beautiful sunset setting and the Chilean sea bass was excellent — perfectly cooked and plated. Hard to beat the view. The bad: Even with reservations made weeks in advance, the prime oceanfront tables seemed reserved for locals. We were told, “There are several private reservations, but we’ll do what we can.” It’s a disappointing experience when you’ve planned ahead for a special evening. The seared ahi tuna was also underwhelming — nice presentation but little flavor. Bottom line: The view delivers, but the service and seating priorities don’t match the hype. Next time I’d drive 10 minutes south to Del Mar and dine at Jake’s or Poseidon, where the food and experience both feel worth it.
The view was a 10, but the parking was the worst. The food was okay, and the server had an attitude--not just my husband and I noticed, but some of our friends did as well. There were 10 of us, and…

Overall the food was pretty good and the service was just lacking. Pretty disappointed. We had a 6:30 reservation last night took us about 10 minutes for the valet to even acknowledge us no biggies. We get in at 6:28 and we're told to wait at the bar until some tables finished signing their checks. We were seated around 6:50. Had to stand at the bar for about 10 minutes until a seat came open. Once we were seated our waiter did not introduce himself and filled up our waters and left for a few minutes and came back with the menus and introduced himself. Before I had a chance to even ask for a vegan menu he had left. Once he came back about 10 minutes later we were able to get the vegan menu he answered a couple questions and then we ordered the cowboy steak and the veggie burger with no mayonnaise. We kind of made a big deal about the mayonnaise because My date was vegan and we even order the truffle fries without the cheese because she's vegan. Long, story short pretty obvious she's vegan. The food came out an hour after we arrived at the restaurant. Which was about 45 minutes after we sat at our table. The fries are awesome very well seasoned. My steak was good but her Burger came out covered in mayonnaise. We kind of waited for our waiter to come back to address it but it had been 10 minutes and he had not checked in on us so we just got a busboy to get a new one. The new one came back with limp vegan bacon and you could tell it was rushed. Halfway through my steak I ordered a beer. It never came. At this point we were kind of perplexed so we started actually using a stop watch to track our waiter. After our food was cleared by someone else it took him 12 minutes to come back to the table and ask about dessert. I asked for a menu it took 9 minutes for him to bring the menu. It took an additional 12 minutes for him to return and take the menu order and 14 minutes for the dessert to come out. So yeah you're looking at about 45 minutes from when we were done eating for the dessert to come out kind of insane.
No doubt the restaurant has a beautiful view, however due to my experiences I will not come again. The food is overall pretty good but the prices and portion sizes is not worth it. I keep in mind that this is by the ocean so it will be higher, but even with that it’s not worth it. My real problem is the customer service. As I entered the hostess informed me my party was on the deck and just head upstairs. I head up and a male hostess/server just looks at me (profiles me) and tells me my party is to the right room. I inform him that the hostess told me my family is on the deck and gave the reservation names. However he ignores me and still guides me to a room in which I knew no one but just were people of color. Eventually I just go to the deck as stood and found my family. Both of the servers which we had were in the motions, and one took my sister and aunt’s items before they were done with them without offering a box. In which half the meal was trashed. So overall it’s a great location but not great service. I did tell the manager so hopefully he does address the profiling issue from earlier. I will say the manager was the kindest over all the people that served us.
I’m giving 2 stars mostly because of the host. When we arrived, she didn’t greet us at all, which felt pretty unwelcoming. The restaurant was empty, and even though our reservation was at 4:00 and we showed up at 3:45, she told us we had to wait, kind of strange considering no one was there. The view is honestly gorgeous, definitely the best part of the whole place. Service was good thanks to Meshael he is really good and professional. Food was fine, but nothing I’d go back for. Overall, the experience wasn’t awful, but it wasn’t great either.
Everything was terrible. From the service to the food. My family and I gave this place a chance for my mom's birthday. Valet parking was a disaster. Food was salty or didn't have enough salt. My ol…
I'm rating this place one star as they changed us an extra 4% on the bill. What for? Costs have gone up? Then raise your prices and don't try to screw your customers. Of course they want at least …
