Opinions de A Taste of Bim Eureka
Cute Caribbean restaurant in Old Town. We LOVE their jerk wings (appetizer) and beef patties! Really can't go wrong with anything you order there! The doubles and cod fritters are also really good.
I had their fried chicken and rice with a salad. It was Jamaican/African style so it wasn't like home, but it hit the spot! The bird was light on the flour making for an extra crispy and fatty skin. The prices seem a little high at a glance, but they feed you real good! Im 200 lb dude who loves to eat and still took home food! I can't wait to try their drinks!
Taste of Bim is my favorite restaurant in Humboldt! I’ve been coming here for several years and have never ordered something I didn’t love. The food is always incredibly fresh and the owner (and staff) is very kind. The atmosphere also is very relaxing, perfect for all occasions. Don’t hesitate to stop by!
Fantastic food! Beautifully prepared and amazing flavors. My coworker and I decided to try this place on a whim. He got the oxtail, I got the goat curry, and we shared some jerk wings. The wings were the best I’ve ever had; all legs that fell off the bone and tasted delicious. The oxtail and goat curry were also both fantastic. Would not hesitate to come back.
Cute little Caribbean place, and boy oh boy, what an incredible meal! I asked the waiter if I should get the jerk chicken or the browned chicken, and before I even finished my sentence he said to go with the jerk chicken hands down. As my first time trying jerk seasoning, he wasn’t wrong at all. The jerk chicken was absolutely out of this world! The flavor was right on and so beautiful. The curry goat was also absolutely exceptional. I’m not a fan of goat but this meat was so tender, it was like smooth butter. The stewed vegetables were amazing in their own right, and I loved the rice and peas. Do yourself a favor and try this place out. Maybe, like me, you’ll go out and buy jerk seasoning as soon as you’re done. This place is a real gem.
I got the shrimp tacos and I loved every messy bite. It was the perfect amount of food to feel good and full, but not hate yourself. This might be my new lunch favorite! The two ladies working were juggling taking the orders and making the food, and they were fast and friendly in spite of it being busy. I only got takeout, but great experience all around. When I have friends come to visit, I'll take them here!
We ate here for the first time last night. We weren’t sure what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised by what we ordered. The sautéed veggies is NOT what you would think, it’s more of a stew that paired deliciously with rice and peas. I got it with the fried chicken and thought I’d be getting something “simple” but instead it was perfectly cooked , very moist and was uniquely seasoned. My husband got the curry chicken rice bowl and ate nearly the whole thing (he’s not a huge eater). We have had curry chicken many times before but the flavors of this one was different. Both plates were very flavorful, as well as their award winning grilled oysters that we had for appetizer. Meals were large portions that we took home to have for lunch today. And for non-alcoholic drinks- I had the hibiscus and my husband the guava. They were both very good, though I added more water to mine (I like my drinks not too sweet and watered down but that’s a personal preference). Both of our servers were very friendly and prompt, but one in particular who was very descriptive with other dishes on the menu-where the oysters and fish came from, how they’re cooked, portions (to share or individual). Sadly we did not catch her name but she is the reason we now want to keep coming back to try everything they have at least once. She even drew characters on our to-go box! We love to eat out and try different foods, but if you’re thinking of going somewhere for lunch or dinner and are wanting something hearty with lots of flavor, this is the place to visit. Oh, & don’t forget their plantains. You think you know what you’re getting until you take your first bite!
Our mind was blown with how amazing the food was. There was so much great flavor! Everything we ate was absolutely delicious. We got their sample platter, stewed oxtail, and bread pudding. Each item had its own unique flavor profile that kept our taste buds tingling for more. Thank you so much for staying open in time for us to pick up dinner during Covid. We appreciate your service.
Not a huge restaurant, but great use of existing space to make it feel bright, airy, & spacious inside. Some cute outdoor seating, as well. Street-parking was easy, & there's also a parking lot across the road. Debbie was lovely & very attentive, despite being busy with a ton of pick-up & take-out orders. She asked if we had any dietary restrictions, & was readily knowledgeable about which menu items were vegan, or could be made vegan for me, which I thoroughly appreciated. Portions are generous! We could've gone spicier/hotter (my Curry Veggie Rice Bowl, & husband with his Jerk Pork Plate), but I feel like, had we asked, they would've gladly done so -- just one of those things that takes familiarity with the restaurant's default heat levels. Flavor was great, though, & if we were local, we'd definitely frequent this place. Always love to support BIPOC-owned businesses, & even more enthused to recommend delicious food!
Walked in on a Friday afternoon and there was one lady working. She cooked and served us Curry Goat. It was so good!! Such a nice experience. Def worth a try!
Had a great dinner at the Taste of Bim last night with my wife. She had the Jerk chicken salad which was good but I had the ginger glazed salmon and it was amazing! Extremely large portion and the quality was extremely good. The server “Debbie” was extremely friendly and helpful. It wasn’t very busy so go and try this place out if you haven’t. It’s a gem in downtown Eureka.
I usually do not write reviews but I want to make sure this place does not go away. I have been twice. Both times we had the cod fritters for an appetizer. At first glance you would think they might be burned, but not the case at all. Amazing! And the curry dipping sauce compliments them so well. On the weekends they serve goat stew! I do not eat a lot of meat anymore, but could not pass this up. Brought back so many memories of "goat water" stew in the British Virgin islands. The place it self is nice enough to go on a date and yet comfortable enough to just have a relaxing meal. If your debating on a place to eat, do yourself a favor and just go eat here!
Quick service and amazing food. I ate here on a road trip from Oakland Ca to Oregon. Coming from Oakland I have high expectations for Caribbean dishes and didnt expect much from this place but figured I would give it a try. To my surprise it was actially some of the best Jamaican food I have had in a long time. The flavors were balanced and not over powering, ingredients were fresh, and i was more than satisfied. I would suggest the steed beef and rice and the jerk chicken. Will defintly stop here again any time I am in town.
Delicious Carribean cuisine in downtown Eureka. Great indoor atmosphere, service and amazing food. I had fish stew and fried plantains. Many options for entree sides, spice levels, appetizers, desserts and more affordable meals!
Almost gave this place a miss because of a one star review we saw. But so glad we decided to just take a chance - and no regrets! The food was great! I had the frizzled cod with sautéed veggies and rice and peas. It was sooooo good. I usually can’t finish such a big portion but this time I finished the whole plate. Would recommend this place if you’re stopping over in Eureka to look for food.
Omg the best chicken I’ve ever had from a restaurant. The taste was smoky and delicious, and not spicy (which, if that’s not your thing, dip it in the sauce!). The plantains were to die for and I’m a sauce fanatic so getting a choice of sauces for the sampler platter was clutch. Thanks for bringing some much needed comfort food during this crazy time! We will be back!
I love the doubles (frybread and chickpea curry) for a quick lunch. The fish cakes and veggie patties are also so tasty! This business does a ton of rad stuff for the local community, and it's a very sweet family business. I'm Caribbean from a different culinary background, but love to see Caribbean food having its day in our little rural paradise 🌴
Held our rehearsal dinner here with all our out of town guests as well. People were shocked by how good the food was. They kept asking us “how did you find this place?” We were thrilled. Gaby was a wonderful host and my wife and I cannot wait to go back!
Excellent service, a nice atmosphere, and well decorated for the Caribbean restaurant theme. We got the salmon and the curried goat respectively. I had never tried goat before, but it was perfectly cooked and incredibly tasty! The salmon was also extremely good, probably the best I've ever had in a restaurant. They've got a nice selection of beverages including some Caribbean specific ones and prices are reasonable for a nice dining experience. As a side note, they've also got a well designed website that, while not completely up to date, lists their menu and some background on the owners. I would highly recommend giving them a visit
My husband and I were traveling through and decided to try this AMAZING restaurant in Eureka. Taste of Bim did not disappoint. The food was fresh, locally sourced, and was absolutely delicious. I had the fried chicken and it was so flavorful, including the rice and peas, and the veggies! Don’t get a salad! My husband had the oxtail and cleaned every bone. Even the ice cream was out of this world. So glad to support a local small family run business, and I know that if we ever come this way again, Taste of Bim will be on our list of stops.
Damn. This was everything I had hoped and more. Such fantastic flavors and the fish was cooked just right. I will be back.
Well, since I'm still in Eureka and it's dinner time, I figured I'd eat ..sometimes I just have a spark of brilliance like that! I wasn't up for my typical fare, so I asked around for unusual places to eat, then I came upon this island dude playing calypso music on a steel drum on the sidewalk, and asked him where he would go...and between tokes he layed out A Taste of Bim Caribbean Restaurant to the soft beats of his steel drum. So off I went, and truly enjoyed an amazing meal, it didn't have a name because I just asked for a chicken dish with no curry, and what I got was really exceptional. The Caribbean food from A Taste of Bim is 5 stars all day long! ☆☆☆☆☆
So delicious! We got the frizzled cod fish and the curry goat and both were yummy. The frizzled cod fish had a lot of flavors and a nice sweet taste. It went great with mashed potatoes. The curry goat was definitely a must if you like goat/lamb, but it was more simple/bland than the frizzled cod fish. I enjoyed them both!
Delicious food with well sized portions! We had a bit of a wait but they have outdoor seating so it was nice to relax with a local cider.
Great food. The Pacific salmon was cooked perfectly as was the jerked chicken and fried cod. Keep in mind it is two people running the show...it will take a while to get your food and refills may take a bit BUT the quality of food makes it worth it. Enjoy conversation with your company in the mean time. Belly up to the bar and watch people that care about cooking make your food to order.
Great food with authentic Caribbean food. Try the whole red snapper and the goat curry. Leave some room for the bread pudding with rum sauce.
The food was delicious, I had the Goat curry and Cod fritters and a Guava drink. The service was excellent. Very friend and accommodating Even though they do not open for dining untill 4:00, the owner let me sit outside and eat. The atmosphere was nice. I will definitely come back!!!
I got addicted to this food. the best veggie saute. Goat curry, grilled mahi, any jerk meat are definitely worth trying.
Old Town just got a lil' newer. Veggie curry with brown rice. Cod fritters with savoury mustard sauce. "Ting" grapefruit soda from Jamaica. All from A Taste of Bim in Old Town. A Taste of Bim, did we just become best friends? Even though your business name makes addressing you in the familiar kind'a awkward, I vote yes!

Homemade ginger tea and Jerk chicken with rice and peas, in a cozy environment. Parking was easy, good location. Thank you!
Delicious food. Highly recommend getting the Frizzled Cod over Mashed potatoes. It’s awesome!
My daughter and I had an amazing dinner and experience at A Taste of Bim! We ordered ginger tea and chicken wings to start. They both were delicious and so flavorful! My daughter had the curry chicken rice bowl and I had the jerk chicken with mashed potatoes and salad. The chicken was so delicious, tender and fell right off the bone. The jerk spice was on point and paired so well with the mashed potatoes! The owners were both very welcoming and kind. My daughter and I could taste their love of food with every bite we had. My daughter wants to try their award winning oysters next time so will definitely be returning!
Food was absolutely amazing! We shared a side of the fried plantains, which were delicious. I had the Ribs Jerk, definitely recommend.
I had a delicious tasty vegan mean here. Beans and veggies spiced to perfection. I really felt like I was in the Caribbean. Friendly staff. I will be back. Try something new! If you have not tried Caribbean food you are missing out! Give Bim a chance ;)
Great comfort food. Family favorites are the mashed potatoes and the doubles
They deserve more recognition! This is authentic Caribbean food. Delicious frizzled cod, chicken, fritters, goat, plantains. If you’re a service snob let that go for some yummy good for your soul food. Pour some love into this place.

Got the jerk chicken with stewed veggies + rice & peas. And stewed beef over rice. As a NY transplant where there has been such an ease of access to amazing Caribbean food, it’s been incredibly difficult to find anything in California. On a road trip to Portland, we decided to stop in Eureka for dinner and the fact that there were 3 Caribbean places in the town piqued my interest. I am very sad that A Taste of Bim is nearly 7 hours north of home, as I’d make it a regular spot. The jerk chicken was amazingly moist and delicious with all the right amounts of char. The flavor was a bit more mild and I asked for some hot sauce which kicked it up just enough. I wish there were just a little bit more gravy on the rice and peas but it was delicious anyway. The stewed beef most definitely hit. So homey and warm and the beef was so tender. We also got a side of fried plantains, which is a must. So sweet, soft and delicious. Food took a little while since it was just a duo behind the counter and cooking, but it was worth the wait.
It's improved a lot since my last visit. Both times were during arts alive so hard to judge the service. They seemed overwhelmed both times. Moreo the first time, right when they opened. Food was really good.

An employee in the coop recommended this restaurant and seemed enthusiastic about its food. so we gave it a try and it did not disappoint. Mother and daughter are a cooking team and you feel that you are invited guests to their table. I had the salted fish stew and it was favorable with Caribbean spices and moderately spiced. the cod is salted but it is not too salty when combined with the rice and vegetables in a wonderful sauce. A friend has the oxtail and the meat was so tender it melted in your mouth. This place is about the food and it is tge food that provides the comfort. There is nothing fancy in its decor but if you want a home style made to order meal this is a place t go in Eureka that is different than most ethnic restaurants in the area. The House of Bim is reasonably priced and the portions of food are generous. Also try the homemade guava juice to add to your tropical restaurant experience

Jerk wings were great. The plantains were off-puttingly firm and tasted like the oil they were fried in was past time to change. The pattie had the same oil issue. The staff was nice.
Jerked chicken: was excellent, rice and beans were excellent. The stewed vegetables had a great taste but consisted mostly of cabbage, would have liked to see some variety. ***** Fried chicken: was ok, but they laid it down on a very generous portion of mash potatoes (honestly too much but thats personal preference). The bottom was soggy, they need to plate more consciously. *** Salad: was good, it has raisins, they were a nice sweet pop, however there were a lot of carrots, shredded carrots and giant chunks of carrots.**** Fried cod fritters: theses were not what i had in mind when I ordered them. There who are no pieces of identifiable Cod, it seems to be just one large piece of dough fried. It was over fried, chewy, and had a really strong Curry taste, which I didn't mind. I wouldn't order these again.*
I wish i could give 3 and half stars because this place has potential. I ordered a stew chicken rice bowl and they use all white meat chicken so the chicken was dry formy taste. It was well seansoned and the flavor was nice i jut wish there was some bone-dark meat. I had some of the homemade sorrel (hibiscus) drink which was good. The atmosphere was nice and the service was goodm

Here's the thing, the food is amazing. For takeout im sure it's amazing. I got the beef bowl and it was absolutely amazing and I loved it. However the rest of the expirience was nothing but wretched. The service was an absolute 1 star. At first I think the waitress thought we just wanted to just sit outside and not eat for some reason. That resolved itself after a couple minutes. My entire stay lasted for 2 hours due entirely to slow service. My friend ordered the lentil burger and it was cooked to death. If it wasn't for the great taste, this would be an easy 1 star. I want to love you, Taste of Bim, but I cannot.
My husband and I have dined here once before and the food was delicious. We wanted to come again but the last 2 times we went they were closed when they should have been open for 1 and 3.5 hours respectively. The last time the door was even open with an "open" sign in the window. When we walked in I wasn't greeted and saw an older woman sitting in a chair facing the back wall. Thinking she hadn't heard us come in I greeted her first. She asked me what I wanted, so I asked her if we could just take a menu that was on the counter, since she didn't seem to want to get up. She responded with "and take it where, home?" I replied "to the table?" Very confused. She then told me that they wouldn't be open for another hour. Throughout the entire conversation she never got up from the chair or turned around to look at me once. My husband and I felt it was very rude and we won't be coming here again.
I had heard so many good reviews and was greatly disappointed. When I arrived there were only two people in the kitchen and they did not acknowledge me. The restaurant was completely empty & I thought maybe they just needed a moment. I had to get my own menu and sat there waiting for the gentleman to come talk to me. He seemed confused about what food items and beverages were in stock. The salmon was completely mush and my salad dressing was separating. There were black flakes floating in my beverage and no one was attentive. I asked about food to go only to hear the cook saying they did not have anything and to only offer me fried chicken or jerk chicken. I was very reluctant to even order but thought I would give one more chance. Sadly when I ordered fish and chips, it looked like it had been completely burnt and had been kicked in dirt. It completely dried out on the outside, smelled of old grease and filled with grease inside. It was DISGUSTING!!! I wanted to have a great experience and have authentic Caribbean food. The waiter also charged my card for another person's ticket. I will never go back to this restaurant, as I had high hopes to support this local business only to find they have very much gone downhill. I do not recommend them to anyone sadly.
I ordered the “Beer Battered Fish and Chips”. What I got, I cannot say. It was soft, cold, greasy, brown and smelly. This was the worst experience I’ve ever had with a restraint. Needless to say, it was inedible. I will NEVER order from them again. They should be ashamed to send this out to someone. I wouldn’t feed this to a stray animal.
