Opinions de Roots Southern Table Farmers Branch
I had an amazing experience at Roots Southern Table. From the moment I walked in, the staff was welcoming, attentive, and made me feel right at home. The food was absolutely delicious, full of flavor, and cooked to perfection. Every bite was worth it. The music playlist was a whole vibe and really added to the atmosphere. This is definitely a 10 out of 10 restaurant. I highly recommend stopping by if you are in the area. On my next trip to Dallas, I will absolutely be back again soon.
Nothing beats homemade soul food! Every bite tasted like it was made with love and tradition. The fried chicken was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, perfectly seasoned. The mac and cheese was creamy and rich, and the collard greens were tender with that slow-cooked, savory flavor that just hits right. Don’t forget the cornbread — warm, soft, and slightly sweet.
Came in on Sunday for date night and from the first moment it was clear this restaurant operates with intention. We were promptly acknowledged and seated, setting the tone for an experience that felt thoughtful rather than rushed. I am gluten free, and what stood out immediately was that this was not treated as a limitation. The options were abundant, clearly considered and genuinely delicious. Nothing felt compromised or secondary, which is rare and deeply appreciated. Sarah, our server, welcomed us with genuine warmth and guided us through the menu with confidence, offering thoughtful substitution recommendations that reflected both care and deep knowledge of the kitchen. We began with the deviled eggs, a deceptively simple dish executed with precision and balance. For mains, the wagyu and short rib were exceptional. Rich, layered flavors, beautifully composed and deeply satisfying without being heavy. Dessert was the perfect close. House-made sorbet and gelato that felt clean, vibrant and intentional, not an afterthought but a final, polished note. This is a restaurant where food, service and ambiance move in harmony. Every detail feels curated for a full, embodied dining experience. Top-tier hospitality, confident cooking and an atmosphere that invites you to linger. A true gem and an easy, enthusiastic recommendation.
I came to Dallas (from Atlanta) for a work conference and this restaurant was recommended by a friend. This is by far the best soul food restaurant that I have ever been to. We ordered every classic appetizer. All of them were 10/10. We ordered the duck fried chicken as well which was incredible. The fried yams surprised all of us and we loved it. I dont write reviews often after a good meal. I was so impressed that I'm writing this at the table as I'm finishing my drink. And those were perfect too!
My husband treated me to Roots for Valentine’s Day! I’m a fan of Tiffany’s so he surprised me with a visit. They did not disappoint. The atmosphere and hospitality was excellent! Our server Sasha was very attentive and friendly. She had great recommendations and was pleasant. From the greet at the front door to the well wishes as we left made an impression. The food was exceptional! I mean every bite was spectacular. The overall experience was 10/10. We will be returning. Thank you all for such an amazing experience!
Root Southern Table absolutely exceeded expectations. From the moment we sat down, the service was phenomenal — our server was attentive and knowledgeable. The food was outstanding across the board. The cornbread deserves its own spotlight — hands down the best I’ve ever had, perfectly moist with incredible flavor. The short rib was rich, tender, and cooked to perfection, while the scallops were beautifully seared and balanced. We finished with the orange cake, which was light, flavorful, and the perfect ending to an amazing meal. I would recommend Root looking for some great southern food.
One thing you'll learn about me is that I LOVE to eat. I'm a fan of Chef Tiffany and really wanted to taste her cooking on this duck fat fried chicken........ God be praised 😂🙌🏾, when I tell you this is a dish you MUST try!!!!!. Since I know that this was a one-time visit, I went in and tried a little of everything. I had My Mother's Gumbo, which was absolutely delicious and tasted great heated up the next day. I had the cast iron cornbread which was something out of this world along with that butter..... baaabbbbyyyy, you not getting nothing like that anywhere else, plus they make the butter in-house 🙌🏾🙌🏾. I had the southern greens, with that potlikker!!!!!!! and tasted great heated up the next day. I had the deviled eggs..... now that's another dish, you must try. I had The Texas Red Fish....... maaaaaaaaan, I cleaned that plate..... That was absolutely amazing!!!!!! I'm hooked on that, it was juicy, seasoned just right and I mean flavorful from start to finish. I had the fried yams with garlic butter, never had I had fried yams and I must say this has changed my outlook on it. I had all four desserts; Orange juice cake, the German chocolate cake, the banana pudding which was made in-house and the Passion fruit mousse. All four desserts were simply amazing, that Orange juice cake was not a joke. One dessert in particular hit my spirit, and that was the passion fruit mousse, that thing brought tears of joy to my very eyes. I'm getting filled up just reflecting on it. 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾. Those chef's in that kitchen came to cook!!!! They showed up and showed out!!!! Every dish I ordered hit with flavor, nothing was under or over salted. I ordered the two-step and it turned out to be my favorite drink. The staff........ simply amazing..... No attitudes, very personable and I mean from start to finish.... My compliments to the Chef's in that kitchen. I had the pleasure of meeting Chef Tom Foley and he was definitely a chill guy. I appreciate that. Listen, we only have one life to live, we have to enjoy it and I absolutely enjoyed myself at this restaurant. The vibe check was on point. Music flowing in the background, just enough for you to hear it and still enjoy good conversation. This restaurant gets a 5 🌟 from me, and if anyone says less, they are absolutely wrong. I've told so many people even while I was visiting Texas to try this restaurant out.... You all keep up the great work!. Now, let's head over to Radici wood fire grill...... There's more.
I had a great first time experience - our waiter Sophia B was very patient and kind, the manager Paul was attentive and knowledgeable, the food was finger licking good, and the cocktails were perfection. It was just an all around incredible experience. Get the cornbread FOR SURE. We loved everything - the short ribs, the red fish, the tamrine (probably not spelled correctly) salad. Prices are worth it and reasonable.
I wanted to eat somewhere special for my friend's birthday and Roots didn't disappoint. I loved the ambiance and intimacy the restaurant had. Since we went on a Sunday evening there were musicians playing jazz but we could still hold conversation. The food was great and flavorful. The portions were so big that of course we had to take food home but all in all everything was great. It is pricey but I believe worth it.
Great overall experience. I selected the sunroom as I hoped it would be a better spot for my book club to be able to talk while we dined and caught up with each other. I was glad as it was indeed a little quieter in there. Our server Trey was great. He actually read my reservation comments which so rarely happens. We are a pretty happy bunch who loves cocktails and family style dining. We ordered: deviled eggs, the fruit salad carpaccio, cornbread, family style fried chicken, the scallops and ravioli, the short rib, and the redfish. No a single bad thing. The seafood was cooked perfectly too! It's honestly such a relief as I hate dry, rubbery seafood. The scallops and ravioli particularly stood out. Serious perfection. The short rib was fork tender. And the duck fat fried chicken even had the "I don't really care for fried chicken" ladies diving in. We ordered the passion fruit mousse and the orange cake. Both were great, but the passion fruit mousse is what brings people back again. It should win awards. Highly recommend Roots. And not just because it's a former Top Chef contestant's restaurant. Although I confessed, I already knew of and loved Miss Tiffany Derry.
First off, we love Chef Tiffany!! Could not wait to support her. Server was Keenan, very knowledgeable and great service. We ordered the duck fat fried chicken, crawfish fried rice, fried yams. We also ordered the fried green tomatoes and corn bread appetizer. My favorite thing was the fried yams, amazing!! The fried chicken is an acquired taste but was so crunchy and cooked so well. We were disappointed in the tomatoes. They weren’t well cooked or seasoned. The tomato and dredge was super bland but the corn relish was great. The biscuits and cornbread were great. The jam and smoked butter 10/10!
I cannot say enough about our experience. First, the service and atmosphere were both great. Our server Mary was 10/10, but I appreciated how this establishment operated like a well-oiled machine, multiple servers taking dirty dishes and providing refills even though we weren’t their table, everyone helped and the manager was also fantastic and was by multiple times to ensure we were satisfied. Second, the food- the main reason you come to roots. It was all amazing. We ordered way too much, and took home not near as much as I thought because I could not stop eating! We ordered the jumbo, cornbread, and deviled eggs to start, fried chicken, collards, and crawfish rice as our entree with German choc cake for desert, all of it was amazing and I will recommend this restaurant to everyone and continue coming. We drove from Mansfield after eating Radici in GP and saw Tiffany work first hand, we are impressed all the way around. 10000/10
We have a short list of “will come back multiple times”, but this one was just added. First, if you could encapsulate my grandmother in a restaurant, this is it (except she would have judged me getting wine instead of sweet tea). The service was exceptional. Super attentive and friendly staff. Wine list was top notch. And the food… we started with the cornbread. I’ve had cornbread so many times that I really didn’t know how you could knock it out of the park with this one, but they did! We also split the peach salad which was a great, fresh Texas way to start the meal. My husband and I got two meals and split them both - I got the scallops which were melt in your mouth perfection. He got the Texas red fish which sat on this crawfish dirty rice that really transported you to that Texas/Louisiana border. Dessert was an orange cake (really delicious), but the star was surprisingly the German chocolate cake. Rich, but not too rich. Moist. Absolutely delicious. If they had peach cobbler on the menu, it would have been perfect. On the atmosphere, it was upbeat… it’s on the louder side and the tables are somewhat close (but not too close)… so depends on your likes but we were still able to carry on a conversation and hear one another just fine. Great experience. Can’t wait for our next visit.
Good experience. We had the oxtails, lamb chops, German chocolate cake, peach summer salad, and sweet potatoes. My favorite was the sweet potatoes by far. Whatever they seasoned those with will keep me coming back. The lamb and the oxtails were decent. Cake was good quality. Salad was refreshing. Service, phenomenal! Very professional, they knew recommendations based on cultural backgrounds, and very caring.
We had such an amazing time here celebrating our anniversary. The food was phenomenal, the service was impeccable and it was so great to see chefs in the open as you sit at your seats. I would highly recommend for anyone looking to have a special dinner and with a bunch of flavor. My only quick feedback was it was a little loud, and super cold, recommend turning down the air just a little. Parking is a bit challenging, but not impossible.
To say the food was phenomenal is an understatement. The restaurant has some of the best fried chicken I have ever had. And don’t get me started on the cornbread. During, my visit I sat at the bar and the drinks were top notch as well. I don’t live in the Dallas area but when I visit this will be one of my go to spots.
This was our second dinner before moving to New Mexico, and this was a perfect meal to have. We have heard about Tiffany's place and that it was a must try. It is a must try. The portions are fantastic and have a depth of flavor like none other. In case you are thinking of huge portions, change your mindset. This is a place with technique and skill put into cooking. We had the fried tomatoe appetizer and holy crap. It was fantastic. Also, i'm not sure where they found tomatoes that large. We had drinks, I had an old fashion. Delicious. My wife had the purple rain, and the cocktails are just fantastic. As for food, she had the Texas Redfish, which was delicious and crusted just right. It was just a delicious cooking on the fish. I had the ravioli with crab, which is not on some of the menu's show in the photos. Finally, my wife's grandmother had the fried shrimp and grits, and it was a fun take on shrimp and grits. It was absolutely delicious and something great to try. We did have alittle room for dessert. As for dessert, we had the orange cake which was so different. Moist and dense, but full of flavor. I was a fan, but more impressive was the sweet potatoe creme brulee. This should or would be the ultimate fall seasonal treat to have. Overall, I would go again, but when I'm back in Dallas. That might be a minute. I didn't mention the service and ambiance, it was perfect. The food got most of the praise :)
This is a Must try restaurant! The service was top tier as well as the food. We ordered the fried chicken a( a whole chicken cut in pieces) and my husband and sister in law said it was moist, well seasoned and flavorful. The fried chicken was accompanied by soft moist biscuits with butter and a seasonal jam. They ordered the greens which came with some corn bread hush puppies. The hoppin’John was good delicious and flavorful according to my husband. We also had the skillet cornbread which was 10 out of 10! It was sooo good!! I ordered the halibut which was perfectly cooked. It was accompanied by asparagus and carrots in a delightful sauce. The cocktails was very tasty. I had a mocktail and it was very good. My husband had the Old Fashion and my sister in law had delicious cocktail as well. I’m not sure what the name was. We also ordered the fried green tomatoes as an appetizer. It was a great start and we knew the rest was going to be just as delicious and we were right! Chef Tiffany and her staff were on point. It also had a trumpet and keyboard player playing some fun tunes while we ate. ❤️ Make your reservations and try for yourself.
The Duck-Fat Fried Chicken was absolutely outstanding—crispy and perfectly seasoned on the outside, while remaining tender and juicy on the inside. Each bite was bursting with rich flavor, showcasing the high quality and expert preparation that went into the dish. There was enough chicken to easily feed three to four adults. The Fried Yams with Garlic Butter were an excellent complement to the chicken as well as the Blood & Honey Wheat Ale. Beyond the exceptional food, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, creating the perfect setting for an enjoyable dining experience. The ambiance struck a great balance between comfort and style, making it an ideal place to relax and savor a delicious meal. Additionally, the service was great—attentive, friendly, and efficient. From start to finish, the entire experience was an A+. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for incredible fried chicken and great sides paired with excellent service and a great atmosphere.
Great place with amazing food and awesome people! The fried shrimp & grits are delicious. The gumbo is great, and really elevated with a full crab claw included. The Texas redfish was great, but the Halibut is the dish to get! The lamb pasta is very good, but very rich. Overall the food is full of flavor and fantastic! Aiyana was great, very friendly, and helped make our night wonderful! The live music was very good, although a little loud if your table is close to them, as the place isn't very big.
I’ve been excited to share with others about this restaurant based on my first lasting impression. I went back Valentine’s weekend and the experience wasn’t the same. Grant it was very busy and towards the end of the night. The chicken wasn’t as good as I remembered a few weeks prior. It was dark as if it was old grease. It’s supposed to be a whole cut up chicken but we only had one wing, more thighs and tiny drumsticks aa if they cooked up and was giving what was left for the night. We only had one silverware setting at our table. I had to ask for additional silverware and napkin. Thought she would bring us the same setting but she handed us paper napkins. I had to send my Dr. Pepper back because it was flat. The waitress tells me after the fact that they have had issues with it and was fixing. They didn’t give us one of our sides until after we had been eating and realized it was missing. I really wanted to enjoy date night but it was a lot going on that we just wanted to leave. I was very disappointed especially that the chicken is 50.00 and wasn’t good. Will I give them another chance? Probably, but not on a busy night. I love the atmosphere, location and food overall. The restaurant was clean, friendly staff and easy parking.
Cool southern food restaurant. I went for my ladies sisters bday and they did a good job. We got a bunch of things to share and it was quite a good meal. The sweet potatoes were quite good, I think they could have been a little crisper but they were very good. The garlic herb butter made them super fragrant and it was probably my favorite thing. The chicken was also great, especially the thigh. The breast was kinda dry once you get past the crispy batter, but otherwise it was great. Im not a greens fan so I didn't like them. The corn was was exactly what you would expect. Unique edition was the strawberry compote on the side. The Cajun dishes we got were good but average to me. I've lived in Louisiana so im kinda spoiled when it comes to Cajun food but it definitely wasn't bad. All around a good experience, the staff was nice and attentive. Also a cool atmosphere with a all glass outdoor seating area. If i get a chance to visit again I would get the ox tail because it sounded good.
Mixed Experience — Great Drinks & Ambiance, but Overpriced Chicken We had reservations and arrived 5 minutes early, but weren’t seated until about 10–15 minutes after our reservation time. We were also told we’d get a booth, but ended up at an uneven table that was pushed together. The waiter gave off more of a salesman vibe, when all we wanted was to relax and enjoy time with friends. The food was okay—not bad, but not spectacular for the price. I do not recommend the fried chicken. At $54 for a 10-piece meal (without sides), it felt very overpriced, especially since you could get something similar at KFC, Popeyes, or Williams Chicken for much less. Definitely overhyped in my opinion. The Hoppin’ John’s and the Biscuits were my spouse favorite out of everything we had and tasted. I ordered a side of greens which was decent, and the hush puppies come with the greens. They call the hush puppies hot water cornbread. However, those born and raised in the south know what hot water cornbread is. I added the photos and you can see for yourself that it’s hush puppies but they call it “hot water cornbread” On the positive side, the drink was amazing. I ordered a blackberry mojito (not listed on the menu), and the bartender kindly made it for me—thank you! My friends enjoyed their meals, especially the New Zealand chops and the Texas Redfish. The ambiance is nice, and the location in the shopping complex is convenient. Just be aware the restaurant itself is quite small—tight and intimate in terms of space. Food: ★★★☆☆ (3/5) – Just okay for the price; fried chicken was disappointing, though friends enjoyed their dishes. • Atmosphere: ★★★★☆ (4/5) – Nice ambiance and location, but small, tight, and intimate space. • Service: ★★★☆☆ (3/5) – Waiter felt pushy/salesman-like, plus a seating delay and table issue, though the bartender was accommodating with your custom drink. 👉🏾Overall: ★★★★☆ (4 out 5 stars) – A mixed but decent experience, elevated by the drinks and ambiance. Beautiful atmosphere and solid drinks, but food value and seating experience could be improved.
One of our family members really wanted to go to this restaurant for his birthday, so we did. He enjoyed it very much, which was the point of the visit so it was a success. I, on the other hand was not so impressed. The noise level made it nearly impossible for a group of eight seated at a u-shaped booth hear each other talk. The booth seat was too narrow for me, so it felt like I was purchasing on an edge the entire meal, more like a picnic table than a restaurant at this price point. The food was okay, but nothing to write home about. The fried Chicken was very good, but not better than Bubba's. The website description accurately said that it would serve 3 to 4. Three of us split the chicken, two of a split one steak, and the rest had entrees in addition to appetizers and a few sides. The winner by far was the pea salad: it was unusual, had a well-balanced but diverse taste, and everyone liked it. Unfortunately it won't be on the menu next week because they're changing their base menu. The fried blue yams were also very good, but a bit salty. The other members of our party liked the redfish and the pork chop, also which won't be available next week. The crawfish fried rice was liked by everyone who had it. The desserts, including banana pudding and the daily ice cream and sorbet were excellent. At an average $75 a person, given the splits if everyone had ordered an entree we would easily have been over $100 apiece without a significant amount of alcohol (the mocktails were unreasonably expensive but beer was on the inexpensive side; oddly, although it was a complete bar they didn't have Bloody Mary's). At this price point, I expect the food to be uniformly excellent, interesting, and something to write home about. That simply wasn't the case here. It was good, but not great. At this price point, I also expect a comfortable seating environment that's not too crowded at a noise level where it's reasonably possible to talk to the members of your party without shouting and this was not. Service was friendly, competent, and attentive, but certainly not up to fine dining standards as far as delivery and presentation. I'm glad we went for my family member's sake, but I won't go back. There are too many other restaurants at this price point that I vastly prefer. While I won't go so far as to say not recommended, I would certainly suggest thinking twice about alternatives before going.
My husband and I decided to stop by on a Sunday evening and everything was amazing. Because we didn’t have reservations we were sat outside which was perfectly fine. I believe our server was Shelby and when I say she did an amazing job. She did amazing from beginning to end. Everything we tried was great but some of the portion size didn’t match up to the price, especially for the fried green tomatoes which were $20 for two tomatoes but the flavors made up for that. Also my husband wanted chicken but they only served the family portion which was pretty pricey for chicken, $56 to be exact. Being that I don’t eat chicken, I didn’t feel it was worth spending that amount. The cornbread was everything. Overall a must try experience because that’s what you are paying for.
