First the design of this restaurant is modern and fresh. They keep the restaurant spotless. The staff and owner are extremely helpful and super friendly. The food is delicious and hotpot is quickly one of my favorite meals. The AYCE is the sweet spot and the Kobe is to die for. 10/10 highly recommend!!

I've been here 3 times already and will continue to keep coming. The owner and staff are very nice. There's not as many meat options, but what they have is delicious and fresh with many tasty appetizers and sides to choose from. I definitely recommend you co.e check this place out!

The place was good ans been waiting for this kind of restoraunt in pur place. The service was great specially Ms. Julie, very friendly and will guide you. Very personalized customer service.

I believe this place to be a hidden gem of all you can eat hot pots. Compared to the other ones in the Sacramento area, the ambiance and flavor is the best. It is not the fanciest, but when it comes to the food, that's where they shine. It's about $40/ person and the food is amazing. My personal favorite is the handmade shrimp balls.

We are from out of town in an area where there are tons of hot pot places, and this place is just as delicious! The meat is nicely sliced and great quality. There are enough side and appetizer options to fill you up, plus a little ice cream treat in the end. We got here at 5pm on a Saturday and it wasn’t busy at all. It got busy around 6. The service was fantastic - never had to ask the server to come back to take more orders because she’d check in regularly. The only thing that would make it better would be to have a sauce bar with all the sauces, green onion, garlic, and cilantro. We’d probably waste less sauce too, because we’d only take what we need. Overall, we loved it and would definitely go back!

Enjoyed a meal here on a rainy day. It was great! Clean, friendly, well-lit, and delicious. What they lack in the amount of different items they make up for in quality and portions. Personally, I prefer a few heaping portions of high quality items over countless standard sized portions of sub par items any time. It is all you can eat but it's not buffet style, which I definitely appreciated. I'm looking forward to bringing my mom and sisters here next time.

Went there during their soft opening. Probably the first individual hot pot tried in the Sac area. Food was really great and fresh. Will come back again.

I have visited this place a few times. I would say their broth selection is flavorful and authentic, while the meat options are thinly sliced and tender. Prices are reasonable for the quality and quantity provided. I hope they put more options for drink/beverage.

Nice place and customer service. Good food and I really like that everyone can have their own stove, unlike most kind of these kinds of restaurants.

The service was absolutely amazing and fast, the moment I walked in they helped my family get seated. The servers were very kind, patient, helpful, and very generous when I asked for help. The food was also delicious, they have so many options, the meat they brought out were fresh and they have handmade shrimp balls and meatballs. The inside of the restaurant is beautiful and very clean. Love it, will definitely be coming back.

We moved to the area a couple years ago and struggled to find a hot pot place we loved until we finally found Taos about a year ago. We try go every week now, the best hot pot in the area, we love the fresh ramen and their house special sauce, everything is great but those two things alone make Taos stand out as our favorite. Staff is great too, the owner is almost always there making sure everyone is happy. He gave us some previews of new meats that will be on the menu soon so look out for spicy beef!

The atmosphere was cozy and inviting. The service was top notch, with the staff were being attentive and friendly. The portions were generous and the prices were fair. I especially enjoyed the Kobe Beef and the shrimp. Overall, it was an excellent dining experience and I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for hot pot or Shabu

I have to admit that when I heard there was a hot pot restaurant opening in Folsom of all places I had my doubts, but I was blown away by how good the food was! Everything tastes authentic with flavorful broths, sauces, and fresh ingredients. Must try the beef balls and shrimp balls that are made in house. We opted for the AYCE which includes all soft drinks, appetizers, dessert, hot pot broth, and raw items excluding certain things like lobster. A little pricey but totally worth it. If you’re not as hungry, you can do a combo meal for less. Make sure to come early as they can get very busy, especially on the weekends.

The service at Tao’s is impeccable. Staff members are attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely eager to enhance your dining experience. They guided us through the menu and recommended some fantastic choices. As for the food, it was nothing short of spectacular. We started with a variety of appetizers, each more delicious than the last. The hotpot options are plentiful, featuring fresh, high-quality ingredients that meld beautifully with their rich and flavorful.I highly recommend Tao’s HotPot & Shabu to anyone looking for a great dining experience in Folsom. Whether you’re a hotpot aficionado or trying it for the first time, Tao’s is sure to impress!

Not sure if anyone has been hoping for a hot pot/shabu place to open up around here, but I was and I’m glad Tao’s Hot Pot and Shabu opened up in Folsom! If you have never tried this type of food, you pick from a selection of soup bases, then pick your meats/veggies/carbs etc., boil then eat. Basically fondue but not using cheese. They also offer hot food items, such as chicken wings, potstickers, etc. If you can handle spicy then I would recommend trying the spicy soup base, unfortunately I can’t handle heat. The owner is from the hot pot capital of China (ChongQing) so I would imagine the spicy soup base to be quite good. Price is comparable to other ayce hot pot/shabu places, and there are lots of specials during the week (50% off alcohol and free soft drink), I also did the lobster tail add on ($12), so worth it! You can tell it’s really fresh and it was tasty. For my protein I just stuck to beef, both kinds were really good. I got the miso soup base and it was well flavored and seasoned. I’m a big fan of their house special dipping sauce, and stuck to using that. The homemade shrimp balls is also great, and a must order. The shrimp came peeled and deveined, which was nice. To my pleasant surprise they offer yuki no bosha (cabin in the snow) sake. A rarer delicious sake I usually find at fancier establishments. At 50% I just had to haha! I’ll be back to try the tomato soup base soon! They do get busy on the weekends so plan ahead. This would be great for those heading to/from Tahoe as well. Nom nom!

The pictures posted by other reviewers look very nice, so I decided to try this place with my friends. Saw couple bad reviews about the service so I was nervous about getting the same. Surprisingly, it was not bad at all. We went there and sit down about 8:15pm. Per the menu, each table was supposed to order 3 meats, 2 sides, 2 appetizers at one time (menu didn’t limit # of rounds). The last call was at 8:30pm, so we were nervous that the kitchen will shutdown and we didn’t have enough food. However, the servers helped us a lot to ensure we get enough food we wanted and the plates in every round still looked descent and full. The meat was great and others sides were well thought & delicious as well. The owner also came out and asked about how’s the food, how’s the service, and anything that they can improve. Rarely had such an experience that Owner went out and talk to each table to take advices and get better. It seems that it is their first restaurant and they want to provide the excellent service to the customers. Overall, it was a great experience and I would recommend this place to my friends and family.

I forgot to take a picture ahead of time, BUT this was my second visit 2 days in a row. Tao, the owner, is an absolute sweetheart! I let him know it was mine and my families first time having hotpot and he went through the cook times, flavors and everything with us. I can only review what i tasted but everything i had was delicious! The spicy soup broth and miso soup broth are perfect. I loved them equally. The kobe, angus and pork belly are so delicious. Shrimp and imitation crab were such a great add in, tofu was perfect! Fresh veggies and plenty of sauce options to tailor the flavor to any tastebud. Do not forget to try the potstickers! Honestly, if you dont LOVE Tao’s then I am not sure why not! Everything was perfect!

Phenomenal! A really interesting and unique take on the traditional Japanese shabu shabu. The amount of food you get is staggeringly impressive and literally everything was delicious. I was barely able to walk when I left as I was so full! Staff was super courteous I will definitely be back again!

Just visited Tao’s HotPot & Shabu in Folsom and had a fantastic experience. The service was excellent—the staff was super attentive and friendly throughout the meal, checking in on us often without being intrusive. We really liked that everyone gets their own individual pot, so we could all get exactly what we wanted. My kid loves spicy food and went for the Spicy Beef broth (Chongqing style), which was legitimately flavorful and had a good kick. I stuck with the Miso broth, which was savory and perfect for cooking the seafood. What to order: Definitely get the Handmade Shrimp Balls—they were the highlight of the meal! We also ordered the mussels and squid, which were fresh and cooked up quickly in the broth. If you’re a seafood fan, that combo with the Miso base works really well. Great spot for families or groups since you don't have to compromise on broth flavors. Will definitely be back! Quick Tip for you while you're there: Since you have the squid and mussels, try not to leave them in the pot too long (2–3 minutes usually does it) so they stay tender! Enjoy your meal!

OMG. I never had hot pot before but have been wanting to for awhile. First time so I have nothing else to compare it to, but what I can say is "Damn"... That stuff is amazing. The flavor was great and I'm a fan now. I loved the Tonkatsu soup with the Australian lamb and spicy beef... Mouth watering just thinking about it. On top of that, service was great. Seated right away, dishes brought out quickly, water was never empty, and server took time to explain how everything worked. 10 stars.

Overall it's good, the food is fresh, the buffet set includes most dishes, single pot, the taste of the pot is not authentic, it's light. The soup base includes mushroom pot, tomato, and beef hot pot. The soup base of the hot pot is the soul of the hot pot.

I’m so glad we have a real hot pot place in Folsom. The soup is pretty flavorful and the house made meat ball’s are yummy. I love that there’s premium meats And the veggies are pretty fresh. My only complaints are ventilation could be better and it’s way too expensive.

My friend and I don’t mind making the 20-30 minute drive to get here because we know we are going to have a good time and eat good food. The cuts of meat are always good, the sides are yummy too and the waiter was always attentive and checking in on us. My favorite is always the beef cuts, never lets me down. I think the sauces are okay for dipping the meat, I think that and the green chicken has room for improvement. I did notice the selection has changed since the last time I have come here, I think there are more options for sides now. Yay!

Solid food, solid service. The hot pot was a bit cold if ya know what I mean. The wind blows one way if you know what I mean. The food was good tho and the place was nice. A bit dirty but nice. I didn't like that there was a server who hardly knew English but like I said before the wind blows one way if you know what I mean.

We were surprised with the quality of food. Great mom and pops shop Plus they make sure their vegetables are fresh along with their meat balls, cilantro balls and shrimp meat balls (they make it themselves, not the typical frozen ones). Great customer service and family approved this to be the best in the area without having to drive to the bay area or south sac.

We drove 40 minutes and we’re excited to try Taos HotPot. It has a charming mom-and-pop feel, and the ingredients were all there, but the broth lacked boldness and depth - the meat cuts were not memorable. Overall, it’s decent if you’re in the mood and nearby, but I wouldn’t say it’s worth the drive or the spend.

AYCE? Yea.. kinda... you don't go and grab more, you have to order more. But if the wait staff doesn't come by or forgets to get you what you asked for, is that AYCE? Or a recipe for frustration? While you watch other tables being served, but not yours. Disappointed.

We were for adults and one eight year-old kid. When the bill came, it looked like any other restaurant in the fact that they have spot at the bottom for a “tip” The system conveniently calculates various tip Amounts for you, 18% 20% 25% that kind of thing. Then I looked further up the Tab I noticed they had already added an 18% “gratuity” BEWARE OF THIS. Because after the food, tax, gratuity, and total bill, they’re still appears a very normal “tip“ At first I had skipped to the bottom line and was calculating what kind of tip I would leave… Only to realize it had already been added to the bill automatically under the heading “gratuity“ Now a few comments about the dining experience. There are six or a different kinds of “soup“ which is what they call the broth in the hot pot. The problem is, your whole entire dining experience is based on which soup you choose. Unless you’ve been there before With a bunch of people and tried all their Different varieties, you make your choice and have to live with it. Roll the dice and hope you pick the winner sauce/Broth. I mistakenly chose mushroom… Finally, something must be done about providing each guest with some kind of a plate on which to put there hot, soaking wet and dripping food after it comes out of the pot. I tried to be as neat as I could be, but every morsel that came out of the pot left a big mess all around on the table. I had to double down on a bunch of napkins to make a bib. Puddles of stuff everywhere. Plus, quite a few of the meat and vegetable items cannot be eaten in one bite. So some kind of a plate would not only be more neat and sanitary, but it would allow you to consume the food without having to gulp the whole thing down and one big wad. Maybe I’m just an uncoordinated old geezer? I would like to conclude my remarks by commenting about two Positive things: The owner and one other person, Female, We’re both bilingual. Both were very nice, accommodating, and believe it or not had a good sense of humor. Both were very helpful. Nobody else spoke English. Second, the food itself seemed to be very high-quality and extremely fresh.

If you have 5 or more people in your group this isn’t the place for you . The food is good , but the service isn’t . The waiter was rude , wasn’t attentive , and didn’t clean off plates we were done using so the table was very crowded and hard to enjoy our meal . They also charge an 18% tip for a party of 5 or more. I’ve been in the restaurant business therefore i know how guests should be treated and this is the first restaurant I’ve ever been to that charges automatic gratuity for 5 people. If you charge an automatic 18% gratuity at least make sure your service is up to par . Also, no to go boxes. I hate when restaurants don’t allow you to take home leftovers . But then force us to tip bad service ? We won’t be back.

Mediocre service. Fun experience. Very expensive to cook your own food though. Looks light, bright, and clean. BUT I got food poisoning. Terrible gastro issues for 3 days after. Then tested positive for E. Coli and loads of MSG and herbicides with my nutritionist. Low quality food. I won’t be eating this ever again.

I recently visited Tao's Hot Pot & Shabu, and unfortunately, my experience was less than satisfactory. (Party of 6) While the restaurant's ambiance and decor were pleasant, the food and service left much to be desired. One of the biggest issues I encountered was the limited selection of broths. Apart from the tonkatsu broth, most of the other options lacked flavor and depth. Additionally, the meat choices were also quite limited, which made the overall experience feel lackluster. I also found that the shrimp balls tended to fall apart when placed in the soup base, which was frustrating. The service was also incredibly slow, with extremely long wait times between rounds of meat. On several occasions, our table was forgotten, and we only managed three rounds of meats before we were left to wait for an unreasonable amount of time. Another disappointment was the lack of side dishes, which could have added some variety to the meal. Additionally, the tableware and chopsticks were limited and had to constantly ask staff for more, which detracted from the overall dining experience. One major issue was that the meat came out before the actual soup, which meant we had to wait even longer to start our meal. It was around 15 mins when the raw meat came out when we received the actual soup. To add to this, our waiter forgot to give us the check, and we had to hunt them down to pay our bill. It seems the restaurant is understaffed for the amount of traffic it is receiving. Overall, while the ambiance was nice, the food and service were lackluster, and I wouldn't recommend Tao's Hot Pot & Shabu, unless you are feeling something different. With limited meat choices, unappetizing broths, and long wait times, you are better off spending the time to go to Sac/Elk Grove hot pots for a better overall experience.

We came here with my parents who live nearby, we were excited that a hot pot place finally opened locally and we didn’t have to drive all the way to Sacramento. Unfortunately the entire experience was extremely uneven and unless major improvements can be made. First of all the menu & the ordering process. The menu is All You Can Eat with restrictions. You can order up to 3 meats at a time and select other items for 90 minutes. This would be fine expect 1. Each order came with 5 pieces of meat while we had 4 people… you don’t have to be a genius to do the math on how little meat that is per round. The quality is very good I will give it that. 2. Service was EXTREMELY slow, we waited a whole 30 min from ordering to our first round of items. If each round took 30 min we will still be starving by the time we leave 3. The menu is very limited compared to most hot pot places and each portion was so small. The owner was very apologetic about the situation as we weren’t the only frustrated table in the restaurant. It was a busy night and many people had issues with their orders. I understand it’s also the owners first restaurant so of course there’s a learning curve. A few pieces of advice 1. Have a serve yourself sauce bar, there’s a reason why most hot pot restaurants do this. This has been a tried and true model, it reduces the time staff has to attend to your guests (especially helpful if you’re short staffed). It gives the guests something to do, so they’re not sitting around wondering why their food is taking so long. 2. Make your staff specialize in tasks, have someone just fill water for example. The entire time we ate there no one refilled our waters even after asking. 3. Have a better ordering system. There’s not enough variety on the menu for such a restrictive ordering system. Either add more variety or increase the amount of food per order. I hope this place improves and succeeds! It has the right elements and just needs operational fixes.

I am not sure where all these positive comments come from. The food is mediocre at the best for its price. Additionally, the menu on the official website has outdated prices (lower, of course) than in the restaurant.

Went to dine last week, but a very bad experience, not worth the price. These simple dishes and rude service have no experience at all. It may be that there is no such type of hot pot in the annex, so so many people come to try it, but I know there will be no next time. The flavor was lackluster and bland, more akin to dishwater than a nourishing, flavorful soup base. I’m no culinary expert. The selection of ingredients left much to be desired. The meat was more than substance, the vegetables were noticeably wilted, and the tofu had an unpleasant, rubbery texture. The seafood, the supposed star of the show, was suspiciously lacking in freshness. The service, for lack of a better term, was appalling. We were left to navigate the complexities of hot pot cooking with little to no guidance from our server. When we did manage to flag them down, their responses were terse and unhelpful. A hot pot experience is supposed to be interactive and convivial, but we were left feeling neglected and clueless. The do-it-yourself dipping sauce was a further letdown. With a limited and uninspiring selection of ingredients, the resulting concoction was a far cry from the flavor-packed accompaniment we were expecting. In a nutshell,The price is expensive, the dishes are few, there is no professional service, and there are no desserts and fruits after the meal., this hot pot experience was a culinary catastrophe. The restaurant fell short in every essential aspect - ambiance, food quality, service, and overall dining experience. I'd advise those seeking a truly satisfying hot pot feast to steer clear of this establishment.

The sauce was lacking flavor. Ordered 1 spicy and 1 mushroom base. Very bland. Meat was fresh and veggies were good. Soy sauce, sesame and minced garlic were the only dipping sauces. More options would’ve been better. A soup spoon would’ve been helpful, but that was not provided. When the bill came, there was two $10.99 charges added. One was shrimp and the other was shrimp ball. The menu said all you can eat so the added charges seemed weird. After bringing that up, staff did respond with that was a mistake. All in all, it was a bad experience and an overpriced lunch ($70+ for 2).

We went the other night and honestly was my worst hotpot experienced. First of all, the restaurant name was misleading, there’s nothing about shabu and it is a Chinese hotpot place. They only have AYCE and the options on the menu was way less than any other AYCE hotpot place. The whole group of people doesn’t speak Chinese and the waitress asked me to translate for her most of the time which is ridiculous when you assume every customer will just speak Chinese. Obviously the other girl doesn’t know what’s she was doing, didn’t know what meat is what, but she had customer service. No body come to help refill water until the end. Also there’s a Chinese old lady that was so rude!!! She grab the meat place from straight behind me didn’t say anything and the bloody meat plate touched my hair, got to a point I was so uncomfortable need to move to the sit next to me. I know it’s still there soft opening but everything just so wrong, if you want to go give a try right now I definitely will not recommend this location.
