Opinions de Taka's Japanese Grill Fort Bragg
Food was well prepared and delicious and the service was amazing. There is no full bar so beer and wine only but their sake selection was great. Will be back next time I'm in Fort Bragg. Living up to my promise, I returned recently, this time for sushi to go. Everything is great and I highly recommend the Taka Roll, Catapillar Roll and the Spicy Tuna Tempura Roll.
One of my absolute favorite restaurants in town hands-down! The best sushi I’ve had in a long time. The price for the soy wraps has gone a little high, but that’s the only way I like mine. Adam mommy is good. He so soup is good. Service is almost always good. And the prices are OK
My daughter' favorite restaurant. She loves the Sushi. Dine in and take out. We really enjoy the food and service at Taka's! Had a great lunch there today. Service and the food were perfect.
The best sushi we've ever had, this coming from two experienced lovers of sushi 🙂 Small place, very cozy with a friendly staff and quick service. Decently priced too, especially considering the quality! Now that we have discovered this gem, it will definitely will be a must stop whenever we are in Fort Bragg!
My wife and I love Taka's. it's our "go-to" place when we don't feel like cooking. The food is great, service is fairly quick, though they are usually very busy. I usually get the teriyaki chicken bowl. It's simple and wonderful. My wife and I love their sushi, as well as their tempura. Their prices are extremely reasonable. It's a great place for a quick meal in a friendly atmosphere.
Best sushi on the coast. Beef udon, chili and garlic edamame, salmon roll, vegy tempura. Pure heaven! We have been coming here for 20 years and it’s always, fresh and perfect. Thanks for all your years of service to the coast!
BEST SUSHI me and my Fiancé ate here on a whim and we’ve never been more pleased! The salmon on our Alaskan roll melts in your mouth because it’s so fresh! The Philadelphia roll has the perfect combination of cream cheese and salmon! The roll doesn’t fall apart when you pick it up and you can taste that all of the ingredients are fresh...will be coming here again!
such a great restaurant!!!! food was so good and tasted like home cooked, portion sizes were great, and super friendly owner and staff. He’s been in fort Bragg since 1985! so lovely, will definitely be back
Taka’s is my absolute favorite place to eat. The service is always excellent. The food is always fresh. And the atmosphere is very cozy. This place holds such a special place in my husband and i’s heart. We came here for the first time 3 years ago and even stopped by right after we got married haha! We live 3 1/2 hours away and sometimes joke about driving all the way here just to eat at Taka’s. Love this place and everyone that works here is incredible!
We arrived upon opening on Friday evening placed a pretty large to go order. Wait was supposed to be 20min but it took them well over am hour. The waitress definitely must have forgotten to give order to sushi chef , but they definitely rushed once they realized what had happened . Even with the wait the food was most definitely worth it everything was fantastic. Definitely the best sushi restaurant in the entire area would come back when in town . Takas was one of the best meals we ate all weekend
Sushi and service were great! Not too much rice per roll and not too saucy. Recommend the scallop hand roll.
Amazing food and well packed for take out orders. Some of the best sushi I have had. Customer service was great.
Went here for a birthday dinner. Everything was very good. The Takas sushi item seemed rather skimpy for the $27 price considering the spider roll I had was only $8 and almost half the size. We all had a good meal and I do recommend them if your in Ft.Bragg.
Local family owned restaurant ran by very hard working husband and wife team. Takas food is tasty Japanese quisine with the sushi chef no other then the husband himself who insures all ingredients are fresh while following traditional Japanese sushi making standards. The restaurant is very accommodating and the sushi chef actually has different rolls (that are not on the menu but maybe one day they will be) that are named after many of the regulars.... just ask! The service is friendly, servers are knowledgeable and the vibe is family friendly wholesome atmosphere. This place gets busy for obvious reasons but it is worth the wait, the portions are generous and the food is great
When we visit Fort Bragg, before we even know where we are staying, we know one thing, we are going out for Sushi at Takas Grill. By far, one of our top sushi bars on the northern california coast. The staff are friendly, the prices are affordable and the Sushi is on point. The drago roll and the mango salmon roll are our favorites, also recommended the Taka roll. Can't this place recommend enough.
It was a very nice lunch at Tana’s today. I had the teriyaki salmon bento box. The salmon was nicely cooked and the portions were reasonable. I opted for the two piece nigiri tuna sushi which was fresh and tasty. The green tea was also very nice and was even served at the proper temperature. The service was excellent! Overall it was a great experience and I hope to return soon.
We went for dinner and sat on the covered patio which was heated and full of plants. The water fountain contributed to a relaxing atmosphere. Staff was attentive. Food was great. We tried the spicy tuna roll, teriyaki chicken and chicken udon with veggies added. Price was very reasonable. I would come again if we were in the area.
We ate in the patio area, would have been a bit more comfy with armless chairs, but we were happy to avoid Covid germs. We cannot rave enough about the salmon/avocado/mango rolls, they were hands down the best sushi we’ve ever had! (Better than any we’ve had in SF or LA). The salmon was SO fresh and the flavors mixed together were outstanding. The Cal Rolls were good as well,( we had the real crab). Service was great and cheerful.
Taka's is a local institution and a definite go to when you want Sushi Only in Fort Bragg. It is a favorite spot with friends and family for special occasions and birthdays. We were served by the amazing Stevie whose service is excellent and was always around to help, she made sure that the birthday girl got a special treat. The food was quick and the presentation amazing as has become standard at Takas. We tried appetizers of edemame, miso soup, gyoza and veggie tempura all yummy. The salads are fresh with tasty fish. The teriyaki bowl dinner was ginormous and every morsel finished. The Takas and Dragon rolls were made to perfection. I am a fan of their Saba, aka Mackerel, it was very fresh. I also enjoyed the best Spider Roll I have had in years. We are blessed to have such amazing food options and this weekend, Sushi is going on swimmingly on the Mendocino Coast. #thepuddingcreektrestle
Absolutely loved the sushi rolls! Undoubtably the best I had in Northern California. Had the dragon roll, rainbow roll and soft shell crab rolls. All hit the mark ! Big chunky pieces of fish and super tasty. Had the pan fried yaki soba noodles and they were okayish. The service was very prompt and nice with a homely vibe. Loved this gem of a restaurant with great staff.
I highly recommend Takas the sushi is always fresh and delicious. The restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating. Owners and staff are amazing, they go above and beyond to ensure you are well taken care of. I’ve tried the bento box and sushi it was a 10/10. I would say this is my favorite place to eat when I visit Fort Bragg.
First time here at Taka's Sushi. Outdoor seating on their back patio was so wonderful. Check out the sunset while husband and I wait. Everything is fresh and taste so good. The price was a bit much. We ordered : Tuna maki roll. tempera mixed with shrimp taka's special A hand roll .California roll . rice .seaweed salad. $81.06
This isn't your typical 5 star restaurant. My first time in Fort Bragg and what a pleasant surprise. It's not an upscale $20 per order nigiri spot with omakase offering. I'll admit it was our 3rd option looking for late night eating options in town, but my family and I wanted a sit down (dine-in) dinner. Most of the restaurants in town closed at 8 pm. They closed at 9. We arrived around 8:45 and they graciously accommodated us. They provided great customer service start to finish. Friendly, didn't feel rushed, and food came out timely. I ordered all over the spectrum of the menu. Nigiri, Chicken Karaage, Miso Cod, and Rolls. Everything was amazing. I mean amazing. My 9 year olds are the true test and they loved it all. They did everything well. Do not hesitate to order nigiri. Fish was fresh, rice was perfect. Ama ebi and uni was available and were a steal of a deal. Tempura and fried items were perfect. Bottom line, no frills, affordable prices, friendly service, and great eats. Don't miss out on this sushi chef. The great ones are rare and we are so thankful that we tried Taka's food.
Their tempura is superior when compared to any other in town. The service staff do not hover over you but do make sure all of your needs/wants are met more than satisfactorily.
Quality yellowtail, grilled salmon cream cheese hand roll , and miso black cod. Extremely fast service. What a Japanese gem in Fort Bragg.
1st time here & it was busy for dinner. Was seated indoors but too crowded & chose to move to the patio area which was nicer. Delicious sushi rolls very fresh tasting.

“Taka’s Grill in Fort Bragg is a hidden gem! The food is fresh, flavorful, and super satisfying—especially the sushi and teriyaki. The staff is friendly, and the vibe is chill and welcoming. Perfect spot for a laid-back meal after a day by the coast. Definitely coming back!”
Very nice server.... food was decent... patio seating was a nice addition the a cozy atmosphere. The sushi rolls were average, fish was nice and fresh, and service was nice. They were really busy and it took a while to get drinks and menus (even on a Monday). Kids enjoyed the teriyaki chicken but it was a little dry for my taste. It was a nice relaxing evening. I don't recommend if you're in a hurry though!
Went here one evening on our trip to Oregon. There was a large party that had showed up just before us, so service was slow but it was understandable given the circumstances. The staff was very apologetic and did the absolute best they could. They were out of the yellow belly, but they had albacore so I had that instead. I also ordered a chicken dish, and it was slightly overcooked but again, I blame the large group of 18 that beat us there. Everything else was delicious and I think had we been there an hour earlier the food would have been cooked properly. I thought the prices were fair and the sushi we bought was fresh and flavorful (my albacore melted in my mouth liked butter). I would definitely go back if I'm in the area again, and would recommend to anyone in the area looking for a bite to eat.
Yummy! Ate here for dinner while visiting the Glass Beach. Ordered the Taka Roll and it was one of the best sushi rolls I've ever had!! The ingredients were fresh and paired excellently. Also tried some of their specials at the time (calamari, chicken karage, local cod) and they ranged from decent to near perfect 🍣🦑🐟🎏
Chicken Teriyaki with vegetable tempura was really good! Everyone loved the fried rice with chicken. Hot green tea was excellent 👌 We had a great dining experience, and would definitely return when in town. Great place for a family to eat.
Cute outdoor patio seating, staff was friendly and addressed us as soon as we came through the door. Sushi was fresh, enjoyed the Alaskan roll and chicken Katsu plate. Affordable, 2 rolls & a dinner plate $50! Pretty good spot for a chill bite along the 1.
Food was good, we ordered the rainbow roll ($12.50), the beef Yakisoba ($13), and fried octopus. It was enough for two people, we even had leftovers. Portions are great. Our Yakisoba had plenty of beef and veggies. Our sushi was packed with fish. Service was great. I think they could improve in the sauce for the Yakisoba, felt a little too sweet. There is free 2hr parking on the street and a parking lot next to the restaurant.

Ramen is good salmon in sushi is kind of different from what I've been having it taste more like cured salmon of somekind its pretty odd but everything else was good.

It's a fairly small restaurant. The service was good. The atmosphere was nice. The food...not so great. I ordered the beef teriyaki bento box with California roll. The beef was extremely dry. Basically beef jerky teriyaki. They use imitation crab in their California rolls. Maybe I ordered the wrong meal. However the rice wasn't that good. I swear the seaweed salad was from Costco.
Food wasn't terrible but the chef was extremely rude to us! Which I feel affected the quality of the other dishes we ordered as well as the whole rest of our family dining experience. It all started when we ordered the special which offered "squid deep fried" what we recieved was not squid/calamari at all but large purple chewy octopus legs. We politely let the server know that it was octopus and that we didn't want it. She was understanding and removed the chewy OCTOPUS from our table and offered to have it removed from our check since out of 6 pieces my husband and I shared ONE to give it a test drive to see if we may want to overlook the mix up and just eat the octopus without complaint but it was like seafood chewing gum. :( (so we politely informed the server. no thanks) chef proceeds to come to our table where we were with our five year old child. And WAVE a slightly larger also purple octopus leg at us and rudely tell us we were wrong. We just let it slide since we weren't trying to ruin the entire dining experience. We then ate and had to ask for the check. After checking for the check they ended up charging us for the dish that was not only falsely advertised but uneaten. :(
We were looking forward to sushi on the coast. We were first ones in the door at dinnertime on a Tuesday. First clue we should have been concerned about, it smelled like burning deep-fried oil. Second, we don't enjoy restaurants with flies buzzing around our heads in doors. No one else was there, and our two basic sushi rolls took about 35 minutes from order to table. If there were a view of the ocean, we might not have cared. But there is no view of much except the highway. The soft-shell crab that topped my wife's California roll was not just crisp. It was burnt black. We mentioned this to the server and pretty much got a blank stare. After saying, "I"ll show the cook," we got no apologies, no offer to replace the roll, and no discount. So guess what? No return for us or anyone who asks us about our experience.
If I could put no stars I would. Absolutely the worst Japanese place I have ever been, and I eat sushi minimum once a week. The entire experience was horrid. The teriyaki chicken was so dry it was crumbling apart and we had to ask for sauce because there was hardly any. The sushi was not fresh, it seemed like they order frozen fish. The waitress forgot to bring us our drinks until after we had received our food. And even then she brought out and extra drink we did not order and we had to remind her what our drinks were. She did not bring out our entire order until we asked about the fact that rice came with the meal... she said "Oh yes, I forgot to bring it out." For the quality it was way overpriced. Ive found way fresher and better food 200 miles inland rather than on the coast. I will recommend this restaurant to either close its doors or get an entire knew staff and design. Worst place ever.
Small portions, dry chicken soup was terrible and raised prices. Not what we had last time but will be the last time going guaranteed.
Hostess handed me a menu and told me to go sit in the back. Vaguely gestured when I asked where. Waitress was nice. Teriyaki tasted kind of burned. Got a spicy tuna roll that smelled like it went bad sometime last week. Made my chopsticks smell. They made it extra spicy, probably hide the fact that the fish was off. Rainbow roll was good. Avoid this place 🫡
The only reason this place gets 1 star is because of the server lady that took my order. Absolutely a sweetheart. We got 70$ worth of teriyaki and sushi and it was all disappointing and mediocre. Sushi was soggy and sloppy. The teriyaki had an overwhelming burnt smell and taste. It was not en enjoyable meal. Infact if I was staying in town till opening time the day after I would call and ask to have some compensation made for the garbage we were given for takeout...
This place has been one of my favorite places in Fort Bragg to go. I loved their Teriyaki Chicken rice bowl. It was cooked so well and had a wonderful sauce. A very simple dish cooked perfectly. I had now been here for about 4 years. (when covid started I quit dinning out). I was really looking forward to eating there today. However the food has drastically changed. The same dish now has very over cooked chicken and not the same seasoning/sauce as before, nor did the salad. In fact there was almost nothing to season it what so ever. Such a big disappointment. I was looking forward to eating there. This will be my last time going there. New Owners? No idea, but it was not good.
We ordered salmon nigiri and it was decent. Our second order was grilled salmon with cream cheese. The chef took out a to go box and microwaved the salmon. The rolls were terrible and not edible. Attaching an image of the roll, one can see that the rice isn’t coated well. The seaweed was sticky and tasted terrible. Do not recommend this place at all.

I've had better sushi elsewhere. Partner found paper towels stuck to their beef in their noodle dish. Prices were ridiculous compared to the quality of the food we got. The server was very nice though, so this isn’t anything against her, but the overall food is a skip.
