Tip: Dinner is amazing, but there can be an hour wait. Put your name in and walk to the cliffs to watch the pelicans while you wait, or make a reservation next time.

This place is amazing! This place is extremely clean (which is impatient to me), it has indoor and outdoor seating. The outside canopy garden section you can sit at has heaters outside which use nice on cooler days. Their menu has several Vegetarian/gluten free options, and a variety of choices on the menu to make sure everyone gets what they crave. I ordered a toasted hazelnut blue cheese salad with dates and apples and it came with a very subtle vinaigrette dressing, it was extremely delicious, light and refreshing. I also ordered their vegetable gnocchi, it was such a beautiful balance of citrus, and buttery gnocchi. The pumpkin seeds on top were a nice little crunch and micro greens balanced out the citrusy flavor. For dessert I had the “Dubai bar.” It was very rich but delicious, perfect to share. My kids LOVED the broccolini and the pea risotto was buttery and delicious. Highly recommend this place. Atmosphere and food were top tier.
A Magnificent Indoor Garden that is the Trillium Cafe with nice views of town and then the Bay. The Seafood & Jardiniere cuisine is delectable with Mimosas. The presentation is Classic Gorgeous French and simply wonderful. The Maitre d’ was very hospitable. Very Luxurious Experience
The food was amazing - probably in my top 20 restaurants ever. The Alaska halibut was very good and the beet/strawberry salad was excellent. If you are in Mendocino don't miss out on trying the Trillium Cafe.
Great outdoor dining place which is dog friendly and cozy. The patio has side panels which makes our outdoor dining experience as comfortable as indoors during winter time. Food is amazing. Highly recommend Grilled Prawn Appetizer . The service quality is top notch and they even offered lap blankets to keep us warm. Our waitress is super knowledgeable about the menu and offered helpful suggestions.
We had an amazing lunch with friends. The food was fantastic. The owners and all of the staff were so friendly. All of the food was fresh and delicious. The desserts made by their pastry chef were fabulous. The outdoor seating is beautiful.
We had an amazing dinner here! Very classy, great service and excellent food. Many gluten free options. Jen our server was great. Make sure you make a reservation.
We went here for dinner to celebrate a birthday. Everything was fabulous...from the dark beer to the brussel sprouts, scallops, cod and the gnocchi. The espresso dessert topped it off. And our waitress was delightful and played off our humor. Appreciated the cozy feel. Would definitely return.
Trillium is in the heart of little Mendocino, and has attracted world class chefs! this little restaurant even has a dessert and pastry chef that makes all the desserts, including the ice cream and sorbet from scratch. I had a coconut and almond cake with homemade banana ice cream unbelievably good ! For a main course I had an amazing cod in miso sauce with a little bok choy and other vegetables thrown in. It was astounding! To top it off the service was very friendly and efficient. just right to provide a comfortable and small town feel and a lovely easy-going atmosphere.
Great attentive and cordial staff. Fabulous Blue cheese salad and flatiron steak cooked perfectly medium rare with the wild mushroom demi glaze. The local black cod in a miso kombocha sauce was delightful with subtle flavors. The desserts were egually stellar. Great meal . Gen, our waitress was terrific .
Sandra and the crew were over the top accommodating. I stayed here at the inn for two nights while a storm rolled through and got to watch it from the upper floor room. The room was very clean and cozy with quality coffee to brew in the morning and comfortable chairs to do some reading. The restaurant down stairs was delicious offering fine cuisine without a pretentious feel and continued charming service. All and all a great couple of days spent here at trillium. Thank you.
The food was fabulous 5 stars. Especially notable was the scallops, lobster mushrooms, halibut, rock fish with sunchoke puree and the amazing Dubai bar.The only food item that was not up to par was the side order of risitto which was made with regular lon grain rice instead of Arborio rice. it was dryer and not creamy .Our servers were very friendly and professional. .
Last night of our vacation - walking around town trying to decide on where to go for dinner. Just happened to stop in and see. They took our name as it was a hour wait. We walked to the cliffs and watched the pelicans while we waited. Dinner was amazing. Well worth the wait. (Next time I would make reservations). The glaze on the steak was excellent. The scallops were cooked to perfection. Service was friendly and efficient.
We went to dinner here at the suggestion of our inn keeper. Superb setting, classic Mendo. Relaxed comfort. Excellent service. Help with the wine choice, many reasonably priced good local bottles. Food was great. Mushroom bisque was terrific. Fish was great. All in all - a worthy night out. We will be back. .
We had another great dinner here! The ahi tuna appetizer is so good. Whatever sauce it’s in is amazing. I had the halibut over crispy polenta, which was absolutely delicious and my husband has the pork chop, which was also very tasty! The service is great and the atmosphere is lovely. Whether you sit outside or inside, both are great!
The food was not Wow. I do dislike the chipotle sauce on my burger. Both tuna and burger were too spicy. I would not order slices of ice-cold focaccia white/dry bread/very minimal flavors.
We enjoyed the Blue Cheese Salad and Scallop starters and the pork chop and ribeye for mains. The steak was was very tender and cooked perfectly. The pork chop was decent. There are some red wines by the glass that were good, but not fantastic. Service was relaxed, but professional. Our server Jen was attentive. As other reviews noted - Good service, Good food - with the scallops and Ribeye being excellent. Nice for a special night out.
Great experience! Unfortunately, they were out of two of the three vegetarian dish options. Did not have a choice in what to order from the menu. Would have been nice to know that after waiting an hour to be seated. Otherwise the food and experience was great. Fun gift shop and oyster bar as well! Would recommend.
The Seafood Bouillabaisse wasn't very good. Lackluster seasoning, prawns were vastly overcooked. The Wild Caught Nightly Fish was rock cod and it was delightful. Well seasoned and cooked perfectly. Very popular place and reservations are definitely a good idea. The bathroom was clean and well appointed and the server was clearly experienced, and just really great. Didn't stay in the inn.
Food does not match the price. We spent $350 and the food did not match, steak was poor quality, oysters were warm had to ask for ice for the wine. Just an overall mediocre experience and we’d rather support other places that have higher standards. Sorry our money is hard earned and what should have been special was not. .
I’ve only left one other review on a restaurant prior, because I hate to knock any small business, but I’d be remiss if I didn’t address our visit as a warning to those considering it for any special occasion. We went to dinner at Trillium for our first wedding anniversary (which I did put in the resy notes & they did acknowledge). We were sat at a table where my husband had to eat his $45 skirt steak entree staring at a trash bag and plumbing. We also had the ambience of the other plumbing pipes (directly next to my seat) buzzing off & on throughout the meal. There shouldn’t even be a table at this part of the “garden” patio. Despite asking multiple times (with two different people) we also didn’t receive water until our entrees arrived. We did very much appreciate their ability and willingness to accommodate a dairy allergy! But overall, at this price point, we were very disappointed. If you’re going to charge SF level prices, the food & experience has to be up to par.
Went to the café for dinner on a recommendation from a local and unfortunately did not have the best experience. At the start of the meal a server offered bread, which turned out to be a single slice of ice-cold focaccia without any butter or olive oil. I will say that the young men who brought water and offered bread were super polite and attentive throughout the meal. The blue cheese salad was… fine. It was the best thing we ate all night. The wild mushroom appetizer was interesting in theory, but the chanterelles were chopped into a pile of unidentifiable bits and served over a cold, flavorless purée. We then got our entrees after a lengthy wait. The (FORTY SIX DOLLAR!!!) sole special was unseasoned and undercooked, with the fish served flopped over onto itself atop another pile of cold, sweetish veggie purée. My partner had the duck breast, which was sinewy and poorly cooked with fatty skin. Her meal came with a side of lukewarm, gluey risotto that more closely resembled oatmeal in texture and taste. We were literally looking at each other in silent disbelief that the food was that bad; I can’t remember the last time we paid that much for a meal that neither of us enjoyed eating. We opted to skip dessert and forego takeout boxes despite it being a special occasion, and frankly the waitstaff didn’t seem at all surprised to hear it. Maybe it was just an off night, but I definitely wouldn’t return and will be taking other recommendations with a larger grain of salt in the future! Online reviews and local recs did not match up at all to the experience we had, and I feel a little bit like I’ve been taking crazy pills after reading all these reviews raving about their food. We eat out a lot and aren’t exacting critics or anything, but this was REALLY not on par with any other meal we’ve had at these kinds of prices. I’ve had better food at a funeral buffet.
Had dinner. Food was disappointing. Service was also not great. We went to celebrate our engagement, and while nothing was too terrible everything was a little off. (Malfunctioning heater taped together, items on the menu that were out, overcooked food). Any of these would be overlooked normally but in combinations and at this price point extremely disappointing.
We dined at the restaurant because it’s highly reviewed in many travel blogs. The food and service were both disappointing. My wife’s fish was way undercooked and when it’s redone, it’s clearly broiled with char on it. My fish dish lacked flavor - an airport sports bar would have tasted better. There are many other great restaurants in town, not worth coming here.
This is review for the restaurant only. 6.25% credit card surchargé on the bill was unexpected. Good wine selection but not much by glass, mostly bottles. 1 piece of bread per person. Food was good but not outstanding. Service was not bad but slow. We have to eat with empty paltes from the appetizer still on the table.
My server Jen was so sweet but the hostess sat me at a table she needed really quickly after I sat. They awkwardly told me they encouraged me to take my dessert to go because they needed my table. I felt awful. It ruined my dinner. There were people huffing and puffing around me because I was keeping a 6 top from sitting down and I was a useless 1 top. Again, my server Jen was very kind but they all handled the whole thing so unprofessionally. I had a reservation for 1.5 hours and they tried to kick me out one hour after I sat down. I am speechless. That being said, if you do go, order the scallops. They are really really good.
Went for lunch and the food is very subpar. Small portions and lack of flavor. Edit: ordered the lamb “meatballs” they were two very small meatballs cut in half on top of a small smear of extremely bland hummus. The menu and server described it as a mezza platter but besides the side salad that came with the entree it had a few pieces of pita, a very weird sauce claiming to be harissa and then a generous portion of weird tasting tatziki. Again the portion was very small and the food lacked flavor. Also the way the owner or whomever replies to the reviews is embarrassing. Glad I’m never wasting money here again.
