Exceptional service greeted us as our entire family was seated immediately upon arrival, unlike other places where we might wait up to 30 minutes. The table service was remarkable; our waiter exuded politeness and friendliness, transforming our meal into a truly memorable experience. My second visit at the Black Bear Diner first Saturday of every month as we host our Men's breakfast! The food is delicious and very promptly delivered we were in the conference room which host numerous of people as well but we always felt right at home as if it was our own kitchen area haha

They did a great job seating and serving our party of 8 on Father's Day. I love the food, so far each time we have gone to Black Bear everything has been perfect to order.

The breakfast was superb! Hats off to the chefs, but also the staff was so kind and we got our food quickly. Unfortunately, I have to give the atmosphere a lower rating. The manager, I'm assuming, that was on shift was constantly snapping at her staff. This place was packed with a line outside. They're doing the best they can and they're amazing. Value your employees. It's important. I wish we had a BBD close to where I live. I've never been let down at this restaurant. I hope that lady has a better day today.

Our first time trying the restaurant after seeing advertisements around town. We decided to give it a try for breakfast on a Sunday morning. From the minute we arrived, we were greeted and sat down instantly during busy hour (surprisingly as usually other restaurants always have a wait) with our server consistently checking up on us. The food came fast and was delicious. The manager even came by to check up on us and made sure we were getting our refills quickly. Would definitely return again and recommend to anybody !

One of the best breakfasts I've had in town in a long long time. The sweet cream pancakes are top tier and incredibly soft. The bacon is not basic Oscar Meyer precooked trash, it's full flavor thick cut. The Grizz is a really good breakfast combo, has everything you'd want in a spread. The biscuits are huge too, not the greatest but they're massive.

This was my first time dining here, and the food was really good. I got French toast, which was spot on, and my son enjoyed his soft waffle. We got a side of hasbrowns to share, which I have to admit I wasn't too sure at first, but they were actually really good. I enjoyed the crunch on the outside, and then the softness on the inside just hit different than expected. Now, onto the Italian hot breakfast sausage, which was LIT!!! I'm a fan of spice, and so is my son. So let me tell you a bite of sausage, eggs, and hasbrowns. It was right up my alley. The biscuits and gravy are next on the list after seeing the waitress walk past our table with some. We will definitely be coming back here for breakfast again now that I know what I've been missing.

It was my first time visiting this particular Black Bear diner. It didn't disappoint. I was welcomed very warmly by the houses and Michael. My server was very knowledgeable and funny and attentive. I wanted pancakes. I have been craving pancakes for over a week. The only disappointment I guess was the butter. It was cold and in the shape of a square but a minor disappointment. Overall the experience was good and I think I will be going back again

We never really stopped to eat at Black Bear Diner and I'm not really sure why. The food is so good and the service is friendly. My husband and I ordered the French dip tri tip sandwich and every part of it was delicious. The bread was toasted just right, the meat was tender and well flavored and the au jus was perfect. I ordered chili beans, which were also really good, surprisingly. I am very picky with chili and this actually has a nice homemade taste. My husband ordered fries and got chocolate cream pie for dessert. We left with a check of less than $50 and worth every penny. We will be back :)

Came in early on a Sunday morning. Sat down at the counter right away. Was immediately served hot coffee. I ordered off of the specials menu and had prime rib and eggs. The hash browns that were included were spectacular as was the rest of the food.

I had the Big Bear Chicken Fried Steak and it was delicious and a great big portion!! My son had the Salmon and it was cooked perfectly!!! Our hostess was fabulous and there was a young gentleman who worked the front where we purchased a boysenberry cobbler before we left and he had such a great attitude, kind and very upbeat! Fantastic place to go!

This is the best Black Bear Diner location. Always hospitable and welcoming. Great food every time. Clean restaurant. The most amazing sweet cream pancakes you’ll ever have, or pancakes in general come from this place, this specific restaurant location. It’s such a treat to come here for my family and I. Great atmosphere. I live 45 minutes away and it’s well worth the drive. They really took Covid precautions into consideration as well which I appreciate. They have a varied menu. Breakfast is served all day. We ordered the chicken pesto pasta, sourdough burger, and the bread pudding. We were satisfied with the taste and the portions were big. This is a good place for a casual meal. There is plenty of parking behind the restuarant. Our wait time for a table was 20 minutes on Sunday afternoon.

This is one of my favorite breakfast spots. The menu is full of all sorts of choices and the portions are big. We even had a Mimosa and Bloody Mary to compliment the great meal. The service is always good and friendly. They were sweet to my friend and gave her a birthday treat to make her day!

Some of the best comfort food around! The servers are friendly this place can get busy at times, so be ready to wait if you have to. I come here for the biscuits and gravy, the sweet cream pancakes, the chicken fried steak and the pot roast....and everything else i have tried has been A+++! One thing to keep in mind when dining at this brand: YOUR SERVER IS REQUIRED TO POOL THEIR CC TIPS WITH ALL OTHER SERVERS/BUSSERS/ETC...so if you feel very well taken care of by your server, or can leave a CASH TIP, then I recommend doing so.... Having been in the industry for years, my lifeline often was my customers & thanks for listening!!

Excellent breakfast and excellent service from Isabella January 1, 2026. I had the 5 ounce chicken fried steak (they have a 10 ounce version as well!) and eggs with home fries and sourdough toast. The steak was perfectly cooked, tender, moist inside and crispy outside. I had the gravy on the side. Just a great breakfast experience.

I've often heard of Black Bear Diner, so we stopped here for breakfast. whoa!, what platters! the Grizz breakfast platter beats Dennys with a stick. Helen and I shared one Grizz and it was more than enough for both of us. Everything was fresh, perfectly done, and delicious. three eggs, bacon, two sausages, ham, hash browns, and two large thick fluffy pancakes 🥞... yeah, that's one order and a lot of food. the diner is good. we will stop again at more Black Bear Diners.

The parking lot is not overly large but there is plenty of other parking as the restaurant is in the same retail park as numerous other businesses with plenty of shared parking

What a great dining experience. I am from Las Vegas, I sure hope the location here is as great as this location. The staff and the service here, was by far one of the best dining experiences I have ever had. Wonderful food and very efficient. I believe one of the managers name is Amy. She visited every table to check on everyone, and genuinely cared about the customers. She took her time explaining to us about the menu and how the food is freshly made. Very pleasant lady to speak with. The employees here were the most happy, friendly employees I have seen in a long while. Customer service has gone down hill past the years, so it was refreshing to go somewhere where you felt as if you weren't "bothering" them when needing something. Highly recommend.

The turkey dinner was too salty and they forgot to bring the cranberry sauce, but it was good in general.

Friendly waitresses, the food was quality food,I had the mini volcano, 2 pancakes, 1 egg, 1 sausage, 1 apple wood bacon& Coffee. My girlfriend had the biscuits and gravy with 2 sausage links & Coffee. The bacon was cooked so that it wasn't crisp but very rubbery, although If I would have known ahead of time I would have Sked for crispy bacon instead. The Meal came to $25.44 and the food was there within 10 minutes of ordering. I will be going there again!

I have been to a few Black Bear Diner locations, but visiting the Fresno location was a first today. Seating was quick for a busy day, service was friendly, food was fresh and delicious. Parking is easy and plenty of space to sit inside the restaurant while waiting for your table. Ordered the Shasta scramble with red potatoes and a biscuit and gravy (Turkey) on the side. The food was good; enjoyed the biscuit that was soft and warm matched perfectly with jam instead.

Gave the place another chance. The service was stellar. Food was prepared promptly and the toast was pre-buttered the bacon ham and sausage were a great match.

Food and service at this west Shaw location are usually pretty good, and the prices are low for the portions that you get. You can always tell when a particular manager is working though, because the music is way too loud, and you practically have to yell at each other to get over it if your table is under a speaker. On these same occasions, service tends to be less than optimal. On those same occasions, there is an overall sense of coordinated caos even when the restaurant isn't chock full. Which it usually is. Aside from the likely "too young to manage" a restaurant experiences, our visits have been above average overall. Even when busy, they tend to get us in and seated quickly, and we enjoy the meal.

I had to rate 4 stars because I couldn't do 4.5 everything was great except for the hashbrowns. They didn't have any seasoning or salt, other than that, I can't believe I've never been here. They are fairly inexpensive, Mimosas were made with fresh squeezed oj 😋. Hollandaise sauce was on point. The pancakes, taste like cake, deserts looked delicious.They will modify the menu to your needs. Great customer service, and the gift shop and decor super cute!

I've eaten here about five times & the food has been excellent & honestly we've had exceptional service so I'll stick with four stars. Unfortunately our food was really cold the other day & they did offer to remake it but my husband asked to have it just rewarmed cause we were on a slight time crunch so I know we'll be going back! Mimosas were huge & super reasonable. Biscuits are delicious & enormous. Honestly everything we've ordered has been really good so definitely not giving up after one cold breakfast.

The menu has so much to choose from; the prices I will say are a bit higher, maybe similar to what you would spend at Sizzler. The place was very clean, music wasn’t too loud. Actually the fanciest location I’ve been too. Only thing that was odd was that when my fiancé ordered a glass of water, there was something black floating in it. Had hot turkey sandwich but was deli slices, disappointing. Waitress did not return to check on us before we left. Got up myself to get straw, to go tray. Never received bill, could have walked out but I’m not that type of person. Could help but notice other diners who were seated after us were well serviced.

Food is great, but staff can be hit 'n' miss. They tend to suffer from the "sit you down, then forget about you" system. But food and portion sizes are very fair, taste never disapponts. Bring your belongings with you when you park, or hide them really well. Our truck got broken into late November 2024 and I left my contact details with staff, I am still waiting for someone to contact me regarding this in Feb 2025.

I'm a fan of Black Bear Diner. However, that day wasn't as a good as an experience. Wait staff was not as attentive as usual. I waited some time for my meal, had to remind the wait staff for items I had ordered more than once. The chicken fried steak was very dry, I had asked for extra gravy that I didn't receive. Very little butter on my toast. It was busy but not crowed. I'll continue to frequent Black Bear because I do love the place and everyone has a bad day so that's what I'll chalk it up to.

When we got in there no one greeted us so we decided to walk into what seemed like the bar area, the workers there looked confused as to what they should be doing but once we were noticed they did behave in a friendly manner, the place was not that busy maybe about 6 or 7 tables and one person at the bar but even so one of the workers kept making a comment that she was right about the place getting busy. The menu is definitely unique and can throw you off as it looks like a newspaper, I would have appreciated if one of the servers would have explained the menu, we were fine because I looked them up and figured it out. Once we ordered we got served in a timely fashion considering they claim top cook their food fresh which is true. The portions are a good size so be prepared, the taste is nothing special but overall the service was above average.

I love the Los Banos location. This location sadly served half our party and the other half got their food 25 minutes later. The food quality has gone down also.

We were so looking forward to eating at the Fresno location because we love black bear. But the service here was somewhat sub- par our order was incorrect and it was corrected but salsa came well after meals were served. Food was great service was OK. But then while eating my toast realized a corner of it was green. Possibly by avocado. But we had no avocados with our meal. We will be back to try again but a little disappointed after today’s visit.

Once Our Favorite Spot—Now Sadly Disappointed For years, I would have given Black Bear Diner a solid five stars without hesitation. The food was great, the service was warm and attentive, and it had that cozy, family-friendly atmosphere that made it our go-to restaurant. It even became part of our family traditions—we rented out the back room so both of my boys could celebrate their birthday lunches there with family. It was always the winner of our “where to eat” car game. Unfortunately, over the last 6 to 9 months, things have really taken a turn for the worse. We’ve continued giving Black Bear chance after chance, hoping for the experience we used to love—but after six consistently rough visits, I feel it’s time to be honest. We’ve dealt with iced drinks being spilled with barely an apology (“it happens sometimes”), incorrect orders, food being sent to the wrong tables, and a steady decline in service and attention to detail. While removing the fried chicken (my favorite) was disappointing, the final straw for me was tonight: our orders were incorrect, and one item we specifically ordered was forgotten entirely—only brought out over 15 minutes later, after we had already finished our main course. To make matters worse, the waitress initially insisted we had ordered incorrectly. It was only after I reminded her of the details of our order that she acknowledged the mistake. She did apply a discount, but honestly, I don’t care about the monetary compensation—what matters to me is the quality of the experience, and that has been consistently declining. I understand that mistakes happen, especially in a busy restaurant. But when those mistakes become the norm, it’s hard to justify spending $80 on a family meal that leaves us frustrated or disappointed. Sadly, tonight’s visit was no exception. With a heavy heart, I’m lowering my rating to two stars. We’ll be looking elsewhere for a family restaurant where we can feel good about spending our hard-earned money.

I enjoy coming for breakfast and dinner, we get seated immediately. Drinks and orders are done in a timely manner. Food is always great. Came in tonight and was immediately seated.15 minutes since we were seated no one came for our drink order or food order. My kids were done drawing on the kids menu. I was so disappointed, we walked out before I let the lady in the front know, a waiter never came and attended us, so disappointed.

Truly one of the most miserable meals I've had at a sit down in years. After 20 minutes of waiting for my food to come out the kitchen told my server that it was out of what I had ordered. I had already had the salad otherwise I probably would have left, but I ordered a different choice and got a meal that was literally half inedible. The meat that wasn't room temperature was still refrigerator cold in the center. The gravy didn't seem to be heated. The vegetables served with the main were raw (think crunchy raw potatoes). The green bean side, which just has to sit in a hot plate to keep warm, was lukewarm. The veg side still had unmelted butter on it it was so cold. The gravy's predominant flavor was salt. I honestly don't know what happened I love Black Bear diners but I left half the plate uneaten and had to pick for food that felt hot enough to safely eat. The only thing I can figure is that the place was empty but most of the food going out was takeout and that led to a somewhat lazy approach to preparing the food? Or was prepared with the assumption it'd be microwaved before eating? Not sure. My server however was excellent and tried to fix it each time something went wrong but I was on a time limit and didn't have time to get the plate right on try 3. He offered to address my bill without my asking, and I am grateful for his efforts. He deserves a better place and genuinely cared. I felt bad for complaining and tipped him anyway for trying hard. The reviews I'm seeing it seems like maybe breakfast is a better option than dinner here. Which is sad, like I said I've gone to black bear diners for years and always looked out for one.

Tried this place in Fresno since we heard such good things about the modesto one. We waited a bit since it was new and would have some figuring out to do. Do Not go to Fresno one, terrible all around. Service was a joke, no one came to fill our drinks until we we ready to leave and the food was was horrible. We were polite and respectful the whole time and even paid for our 3 still full plates without even giving them a problem. Just look in the photo and you will see how full the plate was and there were 3 of them. No one asked if there was an issue cause no one was there to serve. Save your money and go next door to Applebees.

Ordered a waffle, had to reorder as firet one was under cooked and soggy in the middle. Server ordered another one for me and ask for crispy, same result, edges were crispy rest of waffle soggy. Might just as well ordered pancakes, same batter mix. The bacon was almost cooked, coffee 4 star.

Tried the all-you-can-eat fish fry. Turns out I could only eat one bite because of it being terrible. Dried out and old oil tasting.

Sausage patties were only cooked on the outside. I tasted it and it didn’t taste right. I checked and it was extremely pink. We asked them to cook it longer and were told by the cook that they cooked it to the right temperature already. Hash brown was also only cooked on the outside. Two plates were criminally undercooked. This place needs to be shut down by the health department.

The prime rib i had was all fat. Had a small piece of meat.undercooked. Couldn't eat it .when I complained she said we didn't pick the cow. Got $3.70 off of a $40. Meal unable to consume happy Thanksgiving
