The best burritos ever, especially the pulled pork YES! It’s so flavourful and I’ve spent at least 200+ here over the past year because I can’t get enough 🥰 Please never stop buttering the tortilla and filling it with guac and cheese, always keep the pork tender and i’ll return forever ♾️ The drinks didn’t get me very tipsy but tasty 😋
As Californians, we take our Mexican food seriously. Every day is fair game but every Tuesday is obviously Taco Tuesday. After 65 days of traveling through Europe, endlessly searching for something that tasted like home, we finally found it—at Mezcal. In Scotland, of all places. Mezcal absolutely nailed it. The corn tortillas? Awesome. The meat - pork and chicken? Perfect. After weeks of near misses, they delivered the real deal. We went looking for a taste of home and they actually pulled it off. Absolute must visit. Thank you Robert for taking such good care of us.
This is my second time there! First time was with my colleagues as we were organising a work-related casual dinner. This time I brought my family there. Very convenient location, just a few minutes walk from Glasgow Central station. The food was very tasty and staff is very friendly. It is quite busy at dinner time so better book a table in advance!
Amazing tacos!! Good prices for a super central restaurant, great range of dishes to choose from and the portions are really good for sharing. The king prawn taco is delicious, also the super crunchy fried chicken and the pulled lamb. Honestly I'd like to try all their tacos as the ones we tried were all excellent. Nice cocktails too, loved their coconut margarita! The place is great at the weekend and it's open until 10 - perfect for pre-drink stop to start your night. Love the cool lights and the fun atmosphere.
Went for a late lunch with close friends and had some of the best food I’ve ever had. Everything felt fresh, the food came extremely quick and was piping hot, the service was instant and very friendly & helped when we couldn’t pronounce a dish we wanted to try. The portion sizes are also great and extremely filling and their frozen margaritas hit different due to the warm weather glasgow had today! Cant wait to come again, and highly recommend!
Really cute yet impressive place. The food came quick and was top notch, not a single bad thing to say about it. The service was great, we were seated immediately and all the staff were friendly and very helpful. Definitely would recommend and will be back in the future ! Served by Dylan.
Such an incredible spot for delicious Mexican food! The service was fantastic, such a warm and welcoming environment! For starters, we got the calamari and pico de gayo tortillas! Then mains were beef taquitos, king prawn tacos, duck tacos and pork shoulder tacos! We split these among 3 of us and it was the perfect amount! Would highly recommend!!
I love this place. A friend first brought me here, and I’ve been returning ever since. The food is always delicious, and the service is excellent. The staff are friendly, chatty, and make sure to check in during the meal to ensure everything is alright. I’ve felt completely comfortable every time I’ve visited. I’ll definitely keep coming back!
They squeezed us in outside and I was glad. I was super hungry and the steak burrito was the perfect amount of food. I recommend skipping the pico & chips, the chips were not really hitting the spot.
As soon as we got inside it literally had such an authentic Mexican smell, the food was absolutely amazing. I've never had such good tacos outside of Mexico. Cocktails were also spot on. Highly recommend the mango and basil margarita.
Perfect place for Mexican food, the service was quick and the food was really good, fresh and full of flavour, and a good price with lots on the menu to try. Recommend the frozen margarita's perfect on a hot summer day. Definitely be back when we are in Glasgow to try more on the menu
Cannot recommend this place highly enough. The staff are incredible and so lovely. The food is absolutely outstanding, the portions look small but damn they're bursting with flavour and so filling. Had never tried margaritas before so the server recommended frozen margaritas and they were insanely good! The decor and the atmosphere is amazing too. Will definitely be back here again soon 🌮🌯
Delicious tacos, really enjoyed them, and lovely drinks too. On the pricey side but good for a special treat.
Wow! visited this place last night after searching for a Mexican restaurant in Glasgow and it did not disappoint! The pics of the restaurant and food looked amazing so we tried it. What an amazing atmosphere and I love all the low lights and neons. The staff were all very happy and friendly, the food took no time to come out and when it did it looked perfect. Lots of various hot sauces on the table to spice it up and if you like and the food itself was amazing. I had dirty chilli fries with a mix of chicken and spinach & potato enchiladas and would highly recommend it. Definitely a 10/10 💯
I've been to Mezcal three times now and it never disappoints. Really tasty plates which are well portioned. The pulled pork enchiladas are absolutely packed and they have a great variety of hot sauces, which are great along with chips/nachos. The staff make you feel welcome and can make a mean marg!
Went in today for lunch after work, our server (Charlie?) was beyond incredible and she was such a delight she made our trip! Incredible food as always! Love the guacamole and tortillas
Overall, a great experience. Staff were incredibly friendly, asking how day was etc... They checked on us a few times as well. Food was incredibly tasty. Enchiladas were great! Queso Quesadillas were a bit plain (just cheese), but that's a lesson learnt (I was expecting a bit more in it). Very good item for a picky eater though. Cocktails and Mocktails were also good. Would highly recommend. Would go again
Lovely place. Such kind, attentive and welcoming staff. A great cozy atmosphere. Food was fabulous, service was quick and cocktails were perfect. Will definitely be back, great place and reasonably priced!
Stopped by Mezcal for some lunch before getting the bus back home. The girl that served us was super nice and polite. We got the al pastor and the carne assada tacos. Both very delicious. The chicken taquitos were amazing! We also tried the frozen margs flight and what a treat! Hard to choose a favourite. The place is super nicely decorated and has a great atmosphere. I just found the floor a little slippery and felt odd to walk in. Can’t wait to return at another time for dinner and more drinks!
really nice food, atmosphere was nice, service could’ve been better but was still good. Nice friendly staff and was seated straight away. Food came out hot however i do think slightly over priced for how much you get. Would recommend.
Food was lovely, we got two dishes and shared both were beautiful. For drinks we ordered the standard margarita and peach margarita which were lovely but a tad smaller than other places we have been to. Service let this place down, after our order was taken by a lad who never returned (possibly finished work as never saw him again) we weren't asked if the food was ok or if there was anything we needed until we had finished our food and were ready to pay the bill.
Food: Couldn't ask for anything else food was beyond our expectations. Everything is top quality and quantity. From starters to mains. Service: Very detailed and accurate about what's on the menu and what served. The only downside is that the tables are not suitable for the portions served for the table of 2. Very fast serviced and friendly staff. Atmosphere: Good pop music Not too luad so you can hear the person seating within the area you seat. As mentioned earlier the tables are too small on the seating of 2 due to plates are served with big portions. So atmospheric feels a bit extra squeeze in the table. All in all great experience If you are down for a Mexican style option meal definitely give this place a shot but book in advance a bigger table . This place does worth it. your tummy will thank you later.
I was doing the happy food dance while I was eating their chicken and chorizo quesadilla. The corn tortillas were out of this world. Although felt like there could be more cheese in the burrito. The prices are also quite high for rather small plates (2 tacos for £11-12). We had to wait quite a bit to be served while the waiters were chatting next to us. Despite that, the bill contains about 10% service charge. It is not perfect but it has a nice atmosphere, and delicious food. Recommend a visit.
First time trying here prices are reasonable. I pulled chicken dishes i felt a little let down was pretty bland but if you use the different hot sauces improves it. The mince and chorizo is really good. I got nothing to compare it all to as the only mexican food i ever had was taco bell. Would i come back yes. Where we were sat was annoyong everytime customers came and went it was very cold.
Staff were very friendly and attentive. Good variety of food was decently priced, everyone enjoyed their orders. Nice location and good vibe. Would definitely recommend!
Good for a quick lunch and has a nice vibe. Service is polite and quick. Interior looks pretty cool and good portions are good. Seats are not that comfortable so probably couldn't sit for a long period of time. Have a good drink selection. Prob best left as a lunch place rather than an evening meal place.
I had high expectations for my lunch at Mezcal, but unfortunately, it was a a bit disappointing experience. The fried chicken taco had a distinct burnt corn flavor, which was unpleasant. Additionally, the menu stated the taco came with sour cream, but it was absent. When I requested it, I was charged extra. But my colleague enjoyed fish tacos, so must have been just oil issue. Thanks
Had tacos and the flavors were fantastic! Only downside was that the tortillas didn’t hold - probably because they were sitting too long to be served. Other than that, it’s a really cool place and the frozen margaritas are delicious!
We went for lunch. The place was not that crowded, but the food was tasty and well served. I ordered burritos with pork. Price was reasonable, and we spend some good time. I truly recommend this place.
Such a busy and popular place - we booked for Saturday lunch as last time we tried they were fully booked. On the whole the food was good with great flavours. The only thing needing improving were the prawn tacos - the prawns were a bit dry and overcooked - I was probably unlucky. It's expensive for what you're getting - however we would return as there are other things we'd like to try - and the margaritas were so good!
The the staff we very lovely, attentive and friendly and the cocktail I had was delicious… but the food was exceptionally bland. Everything needed salt badly.. the texture of the tacos was rly off and the filling was rly sparse The corn starter dish did not seem fresh and I think had generic cheddar cheese on it.. was bad sorry I would not go back
This Mexican restaurant offers a genuinely enjoyable atmosphere, and the food itself was excellent. The chicken quesadilla, in particular, was wonderfully prepared and full of flavour. Unfortunately, the service fell significantly short of expectations. Our table of four ordered together, yet only three meals were delivered initially. I could see my dish sitting on the hotplate, unattended, for approximately ten minutes. With no staff nearby, I had to leave the table to find someone and remind them that my meal was still waiting. It was eventually brought over without any apology, and by the time I began eating, the rest of my party had already finished. Despite the dish being delicious, it was cold, and no replacement or alternative was offered. The issues continued when we were ready to pay. Again, no staff approached our table, and I had to get up to request the bill. When it arrived, a service charge of £12.50 had already been added. While I am usually happy to tip generously for good service, it felt inappropriate given that I was effectively acting as my own server throughout the evening. We requested its removal, particularly as the staff were aware of the delays, and the restaurant was not especially busy at the time. Overall, although the food and ambience were commendable, the quality of service unfortunately overshadowed what could have been a thoroughly enjoyable dining experience.
Had to update my review as we have been a few times now but the last time was really a miss. Was so excited to try the birria tacos as they are such a hassle to make at home but the consume was so salty it was very nearly inedible 😅 also do not rate the pico de gallo the tomatoes tasted old. The interior and vibes are nice so I would come back here for drinks but would give the food a miss next time unfortunately.
The food was good, we were the only ones in the restaurant at the start of lunch so I cannot comment on the atmosphere. Service was fast and the staff were nice. I'd drop in for a quick bite, but the portions are not particularly large so I'd not make a dinner out of it.
Mezcal Paloma was brilliant. House beer was meh/ugh. Charlie was a great, lovely knowledgeable server and showed us when my partner checked we asked for no guacamole/on the side for one burrito. They both came with which wasn't a huge deal but they tasted like school dinners. They were pretty tasteless and extremely dry. I have been for food before and it was great so I'm not sure what's happened. The rest of the food has also taken a big dip but I couldn't even force myself to get the burrito down. It wasn't inedible I just was so disappointed especially for the price and quality compared to how the place used to be.
Amazing cocktails, alright food. Although the girl who served us was friendly and nice, table service was incredibly slow. We also realised we were overcharged when we got home.
Service and atmosphere were good. Staff were fairly attentive, but the food was not that good. I tasted three types of tacos (al pastor, carne asada and camarones) and they were all bland. Same with the tortilla itself. Taquitos de pollo were ok, I bit more of flavour in those.
Came for 2 drinks. Sat outside as no space indoors because of bookings (understandabke but plenty of tables were free during our time there so bit silly to lose money on custom). Only had 2 frozen margaritis, both nice and then i paid and left. When i checked my bank i noticed £19.80 had been taken out. They'd added a 10% service charge on without telling me or consent. Very underhanded and dispicable really. The amount doesn't matter. We sat outside and you want 10% for doing your damn job and bringing 2 drinks (1 eat) outside to a table? Ridoculous. People eat and drink out and pay a premium for the courtesy, people get paid to do their job, why should i pay 10% extra for you doing your job? What irks me isn't tipping (though it's stupid in the UK, we have minimum wage laws and you don't tip the person at Asda, or B&M, or the peteol station... unlike the US where waitresses often depend on tips), it's the fact you added it on without telling me, didn't give me a bill or receipt nor did you have my consent. I will NOT be back here and do NOT recommend this place. It treat customers with disrespect. Whether £1.80 or £80, it's underhanded and sly.
Avoid! Instagram and the reviews got us to try here but the meat was beyond dry, veggie options were apparently cheap filling. Nachos were ok in fairness. Drinks were amazing though super good. Tacos tasted like it was Saturday nights leftovers… perhaps go on a day that isn’t a Sunday. Staff were nice and attentive until we tried to pay the bill. Might try on a Friday or Saturday… unfortunate.
Pretty disappointed as I’d heard good things. Ordered a Quesadilla and it was an extremely small portion for £12. It had little to no Mexican taste to it and the cheese tasted funny. The chipotle shredded chicken didn’t taste good either. We also had a steak Burrito that was slightly better. Again this has very little flavour, but the steak used was reasonable. The Pepsi Max they served was in a small glass and flat. The waiter asked how it was before fetching the bill I said ‘not great’. We got ‘ah I’m sorry’ but not much more interaction than that.
A Bébé-sized Disappointment with a Whiff of Cruelty It was with a spirit of culinary adventure that my flock and I descended upon an establishment called Mezcal in Glasgow. One anticipates a journey of the palate, a veritable mariachi of flavour. What one receives, however, is a soggy, beige flag of surrender. The service was an exercise in purgatorial waiting, a performance piece titled "We'll Get to You When We're Ready." Our server, a young man who moved through the world with a determined grace that one could only admire, was doing the work of five. He was a solitary hummingbird in a room of sloths. And then, the "food." To call it Mexican is an insult to the very concept of Mexico. My companion, in a moment of tragic optimism, ordered the cochinita pibil. One expects pork that has endured a noble, slow-roasted fate, steeped in achiote and citrus until it achieves a state of pulled-pork nirvana. What arrived was a dry, greyish mound of meat that tasted of absolutely nothing with canned beans. It was as if the pig had led a profoundly bland life and had been mournfully boiled in its own sorrow. The flavour profile was... resignation. But the pièce de résistance, the crowning insult to this already mournful affair, was the woman behind the bar. I believe she fancies herself the owner, or perhaps the warden. As our valiant waiter, the one with the motor disability, carefully navigated the treacherous terrain of the dining room with a tray, this woman had the audacity to berate him publicly. Her voice, a screeching nail on the chalkboard of human decency, was loud enough for the entire restaurant to witness her smallness. She treated his diligent efforts not as the triumph they were, but as an inconvenience to her. To witness such a callous display of power over a person simply trying to perform their duties was not just bad service; it was a profound ugliness. It soured the stomach far more effectively than their inedible food ever could. Save your nerves, your taste buds, and your basic faith in humanity. There are far better places to spend your coin where the staff, regardless of ability, are treated with the dignity they so richly deserve.
