If you’re looking for a fantastic steak in GR, just go here. This is by far the best option of out every steakhouse in the city. The food, service, and ambiance is 10/10 every single time I’m here. Chop House never disappoints! Our server Karly made sure to double check everything was OK with my food allergies and the rest of the staff was beyond accommodating. The attention to detail here is one of the best in the city! We can’t wait to go back!
This place is AMAZING. Food is delicious, high quality, and just all around amazing. My husband and I came to celebrate our 3 year anniversary, and the service was even better. I highly recommend The Chophouse. Definitely one of the best restaurants I’ve been to. We will definitely be back!
I have lived all over the country and have eaten in fine dining establishments from coast to coast. This was probably the best service I have ever had. I'm here to tell you, it is an experience! The wait staff are complete professionals at what they do, with detailed knowledge of their delicious menu. They present the food in a choreographed manner that was just delightful to witness. The atmosphere is what you'd expect - dimly lit, tastefully decorated modern dining room. The food was delicious. My steak and lobster were both perfectly seasoned and cooked. The scalloped potatoes were to die for, I would come back just to eat those! All in all, a wonderful dining experience. Do remember this is obviously a very expensive place, think $300+ for two people. But worth it to splurge every so often if you can, I think! Highly recommended.
We came here to celebrate my birthday. It was such a special dinner! Our cocktails were delicious, and our food was exceptionally good. We also had a lovely bottle of wine with dinner and enjoyed a special dessert. The Chop House is a wonderful place for your special night out!
I cannot rave more about this location. Food, service & atmosphere is excellent. The wait staff is very impressive with their presentation and delivery of each course served. The attention to detail, clearing your table promptly and keeping the drinks filled. Thank you Angel for making tonight special! You were spectacular!
We visited here after a disappointing encounter at a different restaurant. We had an out of town guest and were celebrating multiple occasions (a birthday, an anniversary, and new career certifications) and this proved to be just the spot to do so! One of us had a smoked old fashioned (he really enjoyed having such a large variety of wood available) and the other two of us had the well brewed tea. Our menu choices ranged from the beef Wellington to the New York strip to the realm of shellfish. Nothing we ate disappointed! The dining experience was very cohesive and smoothly executed. We ended with dessert and not only did the staff take time to make the experience that bit of extra to celebrate with us, but the espresso cake caused my sister to leave her heart in Michigan! All in all, this was an amazing place to go to take refuge from bad service and to celebrate!
Very elegant dining. Dress in your finest. Service and dishes are outstanding. And if you feel like splurging you certainly can :) They offer a luxury cognac
This is where you go in Grand Rapids for the true wine and dine experience. Every dish is worth the price and you’ll never leave dissapionted. If you visit this city and are looking for a great high class experience you must stop by.
High end, high priced, but very worth it if that is what you’re looking for. The atmosphere is low light, business casual (plus), and very much a wine cellar vibe. The staff is organized, attentive and professional. Part of the draw is the group staff synchronized entree delivery. Appetizers are small but delectable. The oysters are tender and from Eastern/Boston area. Sides are intended to be shared family style - with four of us we shared two sides. I won’t describe the food too much because i don’t think I could do it justice.
Kim was fabulous! Attentive, personable, quick to act and a top notch server. Lobster bites, shrimp cocktail, oysters, BLT salad, French onion soup, filet mignon, lobster tail, pork chops, crème brûlée were all delicious!
Probably the best textbook steakhouse in downtown GR. Steaks were spot on, service was both entertaining and professional, and it nails the dimly lit old timey steak time atmosphere.
Amazing place in downtown Grand Rapids, MI, I had a lobster bisque, scallops and Australian lamb chops. Then, their creme bruele cheescake. All amazing!! Adam, the bartender, made my night, his service was excellent!! This place is worth stopping when in Grand Rapids. Thanks all the crew for an amaing experience!
TLDR: Great food every time, but hit or miss on ambience. One of GR’s best steakhouses for a reason. We were seated in the middle of the ground floor (not in the downstairs where there used to be a cigar bar) and overall it was comfortably lit and the chairs were comfortable as well. We ordered a bottle of water and he got an old fashioned. I forgot to take a picture of the menu, so I don’t remember what I got 🥲. We ordered the lobster bisque to start- it was pretty tasty and served with Yorkshire pudding when we asked for bread. I loved them! He ordered the Filet Mignon Oscar with lobster, which he said were flavorful. I ordered the salmon Oscar. It was delicious, flaky without being dry, and the asparagus was perfectly prepared. We ordered the lobster gnocchi to share and honestly I feel like it was the highlight of the dinner. It was giving luxurious comfort food. This is not our first time here, nor will it be the last. 5 stars overall, but 4 stars for ambience as the music was very low, the guests conversations very loud, and the temperature of the restaurant particularly cold on this day.
Best Restaurant in Michigan. Amazing Food with Amazing Staff. I was fortunate and Grateful to propose to my wife in 2015 at the Chop House, and we continued our anniversary tradition every year eating the amazing food.
Mitch, thank you for making the best night of my life even greater. You are the best. Good luck on your future endeavors.
Everything we ordered was out of this world amazing! The prime rib was perfect, asparagus was delicious, and we loved the crème brûlée! The service was outstanding, and ambience very nice.
Great location, great food. The bread that they bring before the food is absolutely magnificent. I would ask for two servings of it next time. Lobster bisque is delightfully highly recommend. Also the Salmon comes in a huge portion so you might be able to split it! Depending on how hungry you are. Overall one of Grand Rapids best restaurants can’t wait to return!!!!
Holy cow is the Chop House awesome! The steaks were outstanding and the service was out of this world - like some of the best service I've ever received! It's pricey, so prepare yourself for that, but it's worth it to enjoy a delicious dinner where you will want for nothing.
An excellent anniversary or fine dining experience to go to. The drink selection has a perfect amount of whiskeys to try but their scotch selection needs a few more, I suggest Highland Park, 😉. But I the steak and fish selection is great and you can go back multiple times to try out different steak and sauce varieties. Bonus points to the restaurant for having mocktails for my wife who can't drink right now. She loved them. One reason why we choose Chop House for our ten year anniversary. The blt salad was a perfect app. The scallop potatoes were amazing, the asparagus was great and the anniversary dark chocolate and strawberrys was a nice touch. We got dessert to go and we should have gotten two of the carrot cake desserts. Worth going back just for that. Outside of suggesting to always get a sauce with your steak, everything else was great.
We were visiting the area and decided to treat ourselves. We agreed to give this place a go based on other reviews and it did not disappoint! It was such a fantastic dinner experience, and we have never had such perfect steak before. Everything from our drinks, apps (Lobster bites), soup (French onion), and steaks (Cowboy and NY Strip) with sides (asparagus, Brussels sprouts, and baked potato) was incredible and savory. Due to the high quality and setting, it is pricey but definitely worth it. Recommend parking in the garage right around the corner - reasonable rates and easy walk.
Great food and the service is beyond compare! I had the lamb chops and they were absolutely amazing. They were cooked to perfection. The au gratin potatoes are the BEST!! This has to be the some of the best food in Grand Rapids and one of the best dining experiences I have had.
Excellent experience, everything was outstanding. Service was impeccable. The highlight of the evening was our server Noelle. She was extremely knowledgeable, attentive, and polite. Her recommendations were spot on, easily one of the BEST servers I've had anywhere.
Very great service. The steak was immaculate. They provided excellent customer service with a very delicate approach. The corn is very delicious, the rolls are unique and very delicious. The vanilla bean creme brulee was AMAZING, with it being my birthday they even wrote happy birthday on my plate and lit me a birthday candle.
My fiancé and I celebrated our 7 year anniversary and I can honestly say this is the best food and dining experience we have ever had. Everything from service to food was a 10 out of 10. We started with mocktails and as someone who doesn’t drink I appreciated the Mocktail menu😀 they were delicious. My fiancé got lamb chops and I got a Cesar salad to start they were both amazing. We also got steaks and they melted in our mouth. Crème brûlée to finish was outstanding. Our server Tan V was amazing and on top of everything as well as being very helpful and knowledgeable about the menu. We were also checked in on by I believe the manger who was also very nice. The entire experience was awesome and we will definitely be back!
The chop house is beautiful, it's so elegant. I loved the decor inside 💠 The service was phenomenal. Our waitress was really great. She was always there when we needed her. Food came out faster than expected. Our appetizers, We had lollypop lamb chops. My first time ever having them. They were so tasty, came right off the bone when you took a bite super tender. Morrocon shrimp 🍤 and bread 🍞 Seafood platter. Our kids loveee seafood 🦞 they said it was juicy and buttery Caesar salad 🥗 Dinner we all got steak except my baby girl she got the salmon and she loved it. Every one was impressed on the cook and taste of the steak . My kids still talk about it and we had this on new Year's Eve. Sides Potatoes stacked omg they were delicious so tender, soft, garlicky and buttery with cheese 🧀 Mac and cheese 🧀 Roasted broccoli 🥦 The way they brought out our dinner was unforgettable❤️ They all came around our table and served us at the same time it was so cool 😁 we were so impressed 💜 Alcohol we had a margarita it was strong but so good 😊
Finally made it to the Chop House in Grand Rapids. The steak was delicious! We tried the lobster bisque, very memorable but my favorite was definitely the gnocchi with King crab. Also enjoyed the Brazilian cheese bread offering, as well as the Maine lobster tempura with vegetables. Saved room for dessert (thanks to to-go box for leftover dinner). Chocolate explosion was not too rich or sweet. Delicious! We were seated downstairs, which I really loved. Can't wait to return!
I’m telling you when I say, this place restaurants. They were absolutely packed! People even standing in the lobby yet I was seated perfectly on time for my reservation. The bread came hot & fresh. My server even had more brought over without me having to ask. He filled my guests Diet Coke probably more than 8 times. Our table actually laughed so hard we cried because some of the stuff he said was that hilarious! I believe his name was Graydon. Steak was top tier. Everything was served at once. Absolutely phenomenal pace and timing on all courses and again, they were SLAMMED. I cannot say enough good things about this place. Restaurants do not operate like this in 99% of the country.
I went for my birthday with a dear friend and my daughter last Saturday. Everything was spectacular. I’m going through a rough time with a recent spinal cord injury and subsequent surgery, and my emotions are a roller coaster. When I found out that they don’t offer the birthday discount anymore, I started crying. I’m not sure why… maybe because so much has been out of my control lately, and I thought this would be something in my control. I feel so bad for the server… she was so sweet and compassionate. She ended up discounting our check and giving me a birthday dessert (which I guess they don’t typically do either). Overall, our experience was fantastic, and I will always highly recommend this place to others.
It's hard to believe how the place across the street competes with these guys. Chop House was absolute tops. From greeting us at the door, getting seated, initial service, wine selection, menu review Q&A, meat selection, overall quality, flavor and presentation. Everything was outstanding.
Truly a great dining experience. The staff was very attentive and organized. The food was spectacular. Oysters were perfect and fresh. The cowboy ribeye was cooked to perfection and even management checked in on that. Wonderful spot for a meal. Highly recommend.
Went here for Valentines Day dinner with my wife and was thoroughly impressed. I’ve been to Ruth Chris many times but this was better for the most part. The service was outstanding, our waitress knew everything about the menu and was very attentive. Could have been a little more friendly but still great. We started with the oysters and the calamari and both were delicious. My wife got the truffle butter filet and I got the waygu tenderloin and they were cooked to perfection and best we have had. The sides were ok not the best, we got Brussels and the mushrooms. Brussels were the worst of the two. Dessert was probably best part of the meal. The crème brûlée cheesecake and carrot cake tres leches were amazing. Will come back just for those. Was a great meal, be ready to pay top dollar but worth it in the end.
My experience at Chop House was nothing short of outstanding, and that is almost entirely because of Molly and Liz. Hands down, they are the best servers I have ever had anywhere. From the moment we sat down, they were relentless in the best possible way. Always present without hovering, always attentive without interrupting, and always thinking two steps ahead of our needs. Drinks were never empty, timing was flawless, and every request was handled immediately and thoughtfully. Nothing felt forced or scripted. It felt genuine, professional, and dialed in. The food and facility were excellent, exactly what you expect from a top-tier steakhouse. Beautiful atmosphere, polished service flow, and a menu that delivers. But here’s the truth: the servers made the experience exceptional. Molly and Liz elevated an already great restaurant into a memorable night. You can have great food anywhere. You don’t get service like this everywhere. These two are absolute pros and represent the very best of hospitality. If you’re lucky enough to be seated in their section, you’re in outstanding hands. Management should know they have gold on their floor. Highly recommend. I’ll be back, and I’ll be asking for Molly and Liz by name if possible...
The food and experience was 10/10! From the moment we walked in, every interaction with staff, and the quality of the food was better than expected! Our waitress, Noelle, was professional, knowledgeable, had great recommendations, and was very personable and attentive. She, and the supporting staff, could not have done any better at their individual and collective jobs! The food was on a whole other level! I’ve always eaten to live, never lived to eat, but I now understand why people (and the chefs) strive to enjoy such delicious food! Even dessert was mind blowing! To everyone at the chop house - thank you, for the unforgettable dinner and experience! We will be back!!
First time here for my wedding celebration dinner and when I say this is the best restaurant in Grand Rapids hands down. From the time me and my wife walked in the service was great I would recommend this restaurant to anyone that’s looking for a great vibe and atmosphere you literally get what you pay for and being around people that have money it’s a beautiful feeling and make me want to go harder in life thank you to all the staff it was the greatest experience for me and I definitely will be returning in the near future.
The Delicious Spot for a Special Occasion or Business Dinner If you're debating whether to eat here, just do it. I visited on a business trip and it was a standout dining experience. Here's a quick guide to making the most of it. What to Order: The star of the show is the 16oz Australian Wagyu steak—it’s an incredible cut of meat and cooked flawlessly. For starters, the piping hot cheese bread is a must-have, and the calamari is a great choice for sharing. The Atmosphere: This is a fantastic choice if you want an intimate setting. The noise level is moderate, making it ideal for quality conversation. It strikes a great balance between being upscale and comfortable. Best For: • Date Nights & Anniversaries • Important Business Dinners • Celebrating a Special Occasion The service was excellent and very attentive. While there are plenty of dining options in the area, this place delivers a premium experience that is absolutely worth the price. Highly recommend.
My husband and I came here for him to try Beef Wellington and to celebrate our anniversary. I thought it was sweet they had flower petals on the table for us. I did not like how dark it was, but it wasn’t horrible. My husband said the scallops were amazing, the beef in his beef Wellington seemed not to be seasoned and the peanut butter dessert he got was delicious. I enjoy the lamb, a pumpkin martini and the espresso cake! Our waitress was wonderful and very attentive. We also liked the tablet menus that you could tap the item to see a picture and information on the items. Absolutely recommend for anyone questioning trying!
I chose this restaurant for my birthday and we started with the wrong foot. My sister made a reservation and the hostess didn't have it on their system, so we just had to wait for a couple of minutes while they prepared our table. Once the restaurant door closed it made a loud noise and that was part of our soundtrack every time a customer walked in. 😳 Rather unpleasant. The venue was dark and the music was gloomy. I started with the lobster bisque and it was perfection, so good! I tried the lobster bites and they were a tad too salty for me. For main course I ordered the beef Wellington with mushrooms and mashed potatoes on the side, it was nice. Drinks were delicious and the 6 desserts I tried were amazing. Probably the best desserts I've had in town. The service was good. I'd suggest to take care of the musty odor coming from I believe the carpet on the lower floor I noticed on my way to the bathroom, which was impeccable.
Came here for my 25th birthday; reserved a table for 1. It is not a busy night. Honestly the food was really good. My waitress was amazing until dinner started where she kind of disappeared. I’m assuming she was given more tables… Atmosphere is great for every occasion. Took quite a while for someone to ask me if I was finished with my main, let alone if i wanted to order dessert… this is the same case for the check. I say someone cause it was clear they had support staff for the servers but none of said support came to ask if I want something packaged to go or simply a refill of water. But overall it was a pretty good experience & my waitress was really sweet. I would try this place again. 🤷🏾♀️
Eating at the chophouse is definitely an experience. The servers do a great job of presenting the food and making sure The customer is taken care of. We came and celebrated my son-in-law‘s birthday and tried a little of everything. The house salad and Caesar salad were both good. The fillet was extremely tender and the salmon was good. My daughter got the chicken dish which she really liked as well. The asparagus was OK and we really liked the macaroni and cheese, the cream corn, and the brussels sprouts. I also love that their cheesy popovers are gluten-free. There are a variety of food items on their gluten-free menu for those looking for a good gluten-free restaurant. They even have the flourless chocolate cake for dessert.
Food was delicious, but bar service was understaffed. We felt like an inconvenience unfortunately.
First time dining at this location, while entertaining clients during a nearby conference. Service was stellar, while I found some of the food and drink underwhelming. Calamari appetizer was delicious and we all enjoyed it. Clients ordered Old Fashions and Spritzers, which they enjoyed. I ordered a Mojito, which was not enjoyable at all. Did not say anything to the staff, as I was entertaining clients. Steaks were prepared well, though the flavor was a little lacking versus other steakhouses on this level (i.e. Bernstein, Gibsons, Charley's, etc.). Sides of mushrooms and potatoes were.on point, as well as the desert, wine, and coffees. Did not take pictures, as the experience was less than memorable food wise.
Overall, really enjoyed dinning at this hhh spot. Their steaks did not disappoint in quality or taste. I got the cowboy medium rare and it was cooked to perfection. Had a great blend of a deeply smokey taste, juicy, and earthly rich. Would definitely recommend it. For a side their lobster gnocchi was beyond great! Absolutely loved it! That is a side I would not pass over. However, I was not a fan of their calamari, I'm a huge calamari lover but felt left with a neutral review on the calamari leaning more towards a pass. It was drenched in the sauce that tastes more of eating the sauce than the calamari itself. Overall great experience and the service was amazing. Would definitely recommend if you are looking for a nice date night.
Meat Glue? The restaurant is very cozy, and the staff is incredibly attentive and truly excellent at what they do. My husband ordered the New York strip, which came out perfectly seared and cooked to a perfect medium, just as requested. All of the sides we tried were excellent as well. The reason I’m giving three stars is due to my entrée. I ordered the evening special, which was described as tenderloin medallions served with shrimp. By the time dinner arrived, I was fairly full, so I ate the shrimp and only had a few bites of the steak. At the time, it already looked a bit odd—flattened, uneven, falling apart, with no real char, just some grill lines. The next day, when I took it out to eat the leftovers, it was even more disappointing. It appeared as though several pieces of meat had been pressed or “glued” together and presented as a tenderloin medallion. This was not at all what I expected from what is considered a high-end steakhouse.
I really appreciated the friendly and attentive service — the staff were excellent, and the atmosphere was lively and welcoming. However, I was a bit let down by the food. The steak lacked depth of flavor and wasn’t as tender as I expected. As someone who has had extensive experience with Wagyu in Asia, I was particularly excited to try it here — but unfortunately, it fell short of expectations. The texture was limp rather than melt-in-your-mouth, and there was more sinew and gristle than I’d expect from a high-grade cut. For the price point, I was hoping for a more memorable dining experience. Still, it’s a pleasant spot if you’re looking for great service and a vibrant setting.
I went there expecting a 5 star steakhouse and I got charged 5 star steakhouse prices so I'm going to be nitpicky. Ive been to a lot of steakhouses. Mortons, Hugo's, Texas de Brazil, etc. It's a hobby. The food at the chop house rivals true 5 star establishments. The smoked old fashioned was also amazing. My only note on the food was overcooked lamb chop. Ordered medium got medium well. Not a huge deal. It felt as though the whole establishment was trying very hard to appear 5 star but couldn't quite do it. They started by placing my napkin on my lap for me. I've never seen that. I'm aware where my napkin goes thank you very much. Their menus are iPads which you'd never see in a proper steakhouse. Mine died while I was trying to order which derailed a nice conversation my wife and I were having. No sommelier, no restroom maitre d. There was a bar in the restraunt with sports playing which was distracting. There were bright lights shining on our table which I found to be off-putting. I felt like we were on display. The interior design on the top floor was without theme. A large Disney like chandelier next to a tv playing the lions? Come on. Our server was very nice but did not come off as being trained properly as you often see at higher end establishments. This is very nitpicky as she was wonderful but 5 star steakhouse servers have a certain energy to them. They want to tell you about every detail of the food, they know everything about the sources for ingredients, the history of the dish, etc. She was an absolute professional, but was trained at a 4 star level. That is not her fault. It is the culture of the restaurant, as was apparent elsewhere. Chop house, thank you for the wonderful food and drink. I would love to return however the prices need to come down 25 percent or the restraunt needs to focus on attention to detail 25 percent more. People who treat this as a hobby see everything that happens FOH and taste everything that happens BOH. And we're the ones that write 2 page reviews.
We went to The Chop House last night for my birthday. The reservation was for 2 and marked for a birthday celebration on the reservation at 745pm. When we arrived we waited for a table and asked if we'd like to check our coats, which was lovely. They walked us to a table set for four and had to remove 2 services then asked if we were celebrating anything. Why even have us make reservations and ask if it's for anything special if you're not going to prepare for the reservation? This bit aside, the atmosphere was very beautiful and our server was quite nice. Service was a bit slow but the sparkling cranberry martini was phenomenal and shaken tableside. I did feel like once we said we weren't planning on ordering appetizers that we became less of a priority, which is a bit disappointing. We ordered the lobster bisque served tableside as well and it was very rich, but incredible in taste, I'd recommend the half order. The cowboy steak and the surf and turf were both phenomenal as well outside of the demi glaze and lobster being served cold. I was disappointed that our au gratin potatoes also arrived cold and I had to use a steak knife to cut through the top layer of cheese because it had cooled to the point of being hard. The Brussel sprouts were also not ideal, coated in a lot of mustard to the point of that being the dominat flavor and the lardons were too hard to bite into because they had been crisped until blackened. By the time our server came around we were done with our meal and just had it boxed to go. For paying nearly $150/person I was disappointed in the experience and the quality of the side dishes. It may have just been what we ordered or that they were understaffed for the evening, but I've been to many "white tablecloth restaurants" and never experienced food served cold that is meant to be hot. The staff was all very polite and the restaurant is beautifully designed even though it was so loud it was hard to hold a conversation between two people. We loved our steaks and may go back just for a main dish, but wanted to share our experience. 2.5 stars for the cost in my opinion.
We visited with friends to celebrate and were anticipating a phenomenal meal and experience. I will say the service was great. Thank you. On the other hand, we were seated at the round table right outside the kitchen. The door continuously opens making the experience feel chaotic. All and all it was not the vibe for an expensive steak house. The food was very mediocre. The only item I thoroughly enjoyed was the house salad. My steak was dry, the sides were ok. Some of items on the menu were not available to order. On the drive home my husband also commented that we felt the restaurant was not up to par. Our visits in the past years have been delightful.
Great service as usual. Always love the atmosphere. This was my first experience with terrible food from Chop House. The scallops app was super salty (the sauce they were in was AMAZING though). The mushrooms and mashed potatoes were inedible due to saltiness. The filet with shrimp may have been good but with the salt from everything else it was hard to really get a good gauge. We did tell the staff about the accompaniments but I did not mention the scallops. They were attentive and took those items off the bill. It’s a bummer because a lot of money was spent for a very very subpar experience. Thankfully we had pizza leftovers.
Very disappointed. Steaks were awful. Served as rare instead of medium rare as asked. Steaks were covered with salt. Everything tasted double salted, including the sides. The steaks were also not charred at all and tasted more like they were sous vide and not charred. Very bland and I couldn’t finish the beef Wellington (it wasn’t tasty, I returned it), the cowboy steak, and the aged NY strip. All were bad and I couldn’t finish any of them. After expressing my disappointment in the quality of food, I was still charged for everything and gratuity was indeed included. I love steaks and barely eat at steakhouses because too frequently I pay good money for steaks done poorly. This establishment is not an exception. I strongly do not recommend you waste your time or money coming here and go someplace else. The service was very good in terms of the charming nature of the waitress. Really kind and patient with my loud group. The bread was also great.
1/14/26. Business dinner. My wife had a very long hair in her soup. The waitress took the hair on a plate and left with it. No one included the manager came to our table to address the issue. I expected her dinner to be comped. Complete silence as if the event was had never happened. All this for a $550 dinner. Not good.
