I had dinner at O-Ku, and the experience was really good from start to finish. The service was outstanding—attentive without being intrusive, and truly elevated the whole evening. The food was exceptional. The highlights were definitely the duck bao buns and the nigiris, both made with very fresh ingredients and presented beautifully. Overall, every dish showed great attention to detail and high-quality products. The atmosphere is pleasant and inviting, perfect for a relaxed dinner or a special occasion. As for the price, it’s quite reasonable considering the quality of the food and the top-notch service. In summary, O-Ku is highly recommended for its excellent food, great service, and solid value for money. The dessert was disappointing. I would definitely return.
It was valentines day and I wanted to take my wife somewhere different locally and I remember hearing about Oku and how good they were. Well I'm here to report its as advertised. Every single dish we tasted was amazing. Full of flavor and freshness. Fish that just melts in your mouth. You have to try the Gindara chef special, its Japanese cod fish torched with a miss glaze, wholy shitake was that good. Never had cod in that way. Our waiter Noah said the cod is from Japan and different from American cod and thus can be served in such a manner. They also fly all their fish in fresh daily from Japan. Now I understand the price point. It's not a place for the faint of wallet but if you are looking for true Japanese sushi with a modern twist make sure to stop by, its worth it!
I wanted to say something cute, like O-Ku is OK. But OK just doesn't give enough respect to O-Ku! It's spectacular! Fine dining sushi as I've never experienced at a sushi restaurant. Amazing rolls. We tried several and liked each one. One item we tried was exceptional. The Otoro Shots! I can't recommend this enough! How can something in a shot glass pack so much flavor, Amazing 👏 If I had to pick a best bite ever, the Otoro Shot would be it! So good. Lastly was the Chocolate Namelake. Nice semi-sweet way to top off a great meal. Thank you O-Ku!
Had omakase there for first time even though I have been there countless of times. It is my favorite local sushi restaurant. I live right down the street so it is easy to go there. I love going there alone and as soon as they open so it isn’t so busy and loud. The server was attentive and asked if I had questions. I got the corner seat at the sushi bar. I was impressed by the size of the omakase dishes.. one course was 6 nigiri, not just one nigiri like my experience at other restaurants when I do omakase! By the time I got to the milk bread with crab on top, I was full. The second to last course was a whole crispy fish. Very good but I had trouble finishing it being so full already. Then it was dessert which were many yummy donuts and mochi. I was not hungry the next day. I got a large variety of cold raw fish dishes and oyster even. There was also my favorite otoro tuna, and wagyu scallop other raw and cooked nigiri. I definitely will be doing omakase again there!
This was the most memorable birthday dinner ever 💓 I came to the restaurant with my husband to celebrate my birthday, and I was presented with a personalized birthday card, signed by all the staff, and a meaningful gift - a book about arts (and I love arts!), from the restaurant ! Talk about class and service! The pictures are attached. Needless to say, the food was phenomenal, and the atmosphere just perfect for the occasion 👌. I loved every moment of that evening! And every dollar was well worth the experience! Thank you to our server, John, and to the amazing chef and to all who made this happen. We will be back for more special occasions. This is now our go to place in Greenville.
My husband and I spent our wedding anniversary at O-Ku. The food was amazing! We had the truffle butter edamame and the sugar and spice cocktails to start. We were wished a happy anniversary by the hostess, the manager, and our server (David) multiple times during our meal. The manager brought us out a starter on the house to celebrate us and even ensured it was shellfish free to accommodate my shellfish allergy. They take great care and precautions regarding food allergies and I have never experienced any issues eating here. Our sushi course was delicious with the Red Passion roll as our absolute favorite. The Falls and Tuna Crunch were also phenomenal. At the end of the night, our server brought us some champagne on the house to toast our anniversary along with a card signed by all of the employees on shift. We were so pleased with our dining experience, the attention to detail, and how special they made our night feel. Would most definitely recommend you try O-Ku and maybe even spend a celebratory evening with them as well. They exceeded our expectations for the evening. We hope to be back soon!
O-Ku is a go to. Love the location and distinct menu from locations in Atlanta and Nashville. Ordered and enjoyed a few specials. Asked for an edited to popular crispy rice with tuna instead of salmon and no hesitation one of the best I’ve had. Traveling for work so the bar was my location as one. The staff was polite and attentive.
Was here for the first time and it was phenomenal! We had a work dinner which I almost didn’t attend since I’m vegetarian. O-Ku went above and beyond to make sure that the two vegetarians and one shellfish-allergic person in our group were very well taken care of! They adjusted all items for us and it was so delicious! The rest of the group (colleagues from out of town) were raving about the sushi as well. We had a great time and enjoyed every minute. My favorites were the Crispy Rice and Greenville Goddess roll. Shown in the pictures are crispy brussels sprouts, shishito peppers, oyster mushrooms, crispy rice (with sashimi), vegetarian crispy rice (with avocado), rock shrimp, rainbow roll, reedy river roll, paladin roll, volcano roll, greenville goddess roll, tropical cheesecake, and sata andagi.
The food was delicious. We will definitely be back for the Omakase. Otoro Shots were phenomenal. 10 out of 10. We got the Tarusake Sake. The white pepper went perfectly with the raw seafood. The waiter was excellent.
I loved the atmosphere and the waitresses that serve us are always so friendly! Only complaint is the noise level sometimes I have hard time hearing or making conversation. I was there by myself for happy hour last time at 4pm, then before that my friend Ashleigh and I were there. I was also there a few months ago right before the hurricane two times with my friend Caroline. I had happy hour the last two times. The place is so beautiful and nicely decorated. I received excellent service as when the miso soup was too salty, not only did they take it off the tab but also provided free salmon appetizer for us! I received the free smaller portion of the salmon appetizer twice already! Oku is easily my favorite sushi place in town and in general. I wish I knew about Oku earlier. I love the Daimyo and Reedy River rolls. Even bigger bonus that the reedy river roll is half off during happy hour! The non alcoholic drinks are great also, especially the strawberry one. I get that every time I come there. The wagyu toast is absolutely delicious. The otoro shots are too sour for me so I won’t be getting that again. The Daimyo roll is my favorite. I love the otoro sashimi though it’s so juicy and fatty which I love!! I had the otoro nigiri appetizer one time and think it’s pricey for only one piece of sushi. The rock shrimp is great also. The crab cakes were just okay so I won’t be getting those again. My friends and I absolutely enjoyed the doughnuts Japanese style as they melted in our mouths and the miso sauce is absolutely divine!! I has the lychee sorbet with dragonfruit boba once also. I love this place and can’t wait to come back!!
We had been waiting a while to find an occasion to go here and my wife’s birthday seemed like a good cause. We opted for the OMAKASE CHEF'S CREATIVE MULTI COURSE TASTING MENU for us both so we didn’t have to make choices. Well done. Great way to get a taste of many things. We will go back and sit at the sushi bar for a nigiri splurge next though they offer many creative combinations.
10/10 service, food and beats all my expectations every time I go. I came for Valentine’s Day and they were super busy, I had a reservation for 10:30, walked out at 11:15 with a full stomach and great food. Reminded me of Miami with the service and the music Ann the host and Anita our server were super awesome and quick. Very sweet and on the point!
We visit O-Ku in Charleston, SC regularly. We were in Greenville and made reservations while we were in town. John Zuffoletti the General Manager greeted my Wife and I as soon as we walked in the door and continued to check with us throughout our meal. He made us feel at home right away. Our Server, Anita came over to introduce herself and was very welcoming as well. Her suggestions were spot on. She was very Professional and engaging. I highly recommend O-ku as well as all the other Indigo Road Group restaurants.
Went to O-Ku in Greenville to celebrate my birthday and had a great overall experience. We made our reservation about a month in advance, and while we did end up waiting around 20 minutes past our reservation time to be seated due to the previous table lingering, the way the staff handled it really stood out. The manager was incredibly friendly, attentive, and genuinely apologetic. He brought us complimentary champagne and a free appetizer, which was a really thoughtful touch and completely turned the situation around. It felt like they truly cared about making the night special. Once seated, everything was fantastic — the food, atmosphere, and service were all excellent. Delays can happen anywhere, but how O-Ku handled it showed professionalism and great hospitality. Would absolutely come back and still highly recommend, especially for special occasions.
This was a wonderful meal! Our server Tim was helpful and polite and the food was just delicious. We loved the crispy rice. Portions are big but prices are also high, so you may need to order less than you think. This is an upscale place and reservations are recommended. We felt super welcome and really loved the fresh fish.
My husband and I celebrated our birthdays at O-Ku and let me just say… REQUEST NOAH AS YOUR SERVER! He made our dining experience so wonderful - can’t praise him enough! He was extremely knowledgeable of the menu and walked us through everything front to back without skipping a beat. Although he had plenty of other tables, he still took his time to create a very personable experience for us. Aside from him being one of the best servers I’ve encountered, the food was spectacular! All around, it was a perfect experience and we will be back for sure!
I celebrated a birthday at O-Ku! John was exceptional at accommodating the number of guests and time. The staff and manager the evening of were AMAZING! I will definitely recommend and put it on my go to dining list in downtown Greenville. They go above & beyond! Thank you for making my birthday celebration seem less and so enjoyable 💕
Visited with a large group during restaurant week. The restaurant was packed, which clearly shows it’s popular, and service was genuinely excellent—our server and the manager were attentive, friendly, and handled a big party smoothly. The menu leans upscale, with prices higher than most sushi spots, and while portions were small-plate style, the quality didn’t always match the cost. Several dishes felt underseasoned or inconsistently cooked, including scallops and shrimp that were undercooked. Some of the more traditional or “authentic” sushi offerings also didn’t quite meet expectations compared to similar dishes I’ve had elsewhere. The regular sushi rolls were solid, though. They do have a very extensive alcohol menu. Our group wasn’t drinking, but I did try one of their non-alcoholic drink options, which was fine—nothing standout, but decent. With tip included, most people spent around $50–$75 per person (and it would have been closer to $75–$100 if appetizers were fully split). Even then, many of us left not feeling very full. I was excited to try some of the more authentic dishes, and that’s where it fell short for me. Overall, great service and atmosphere, but the food quality didn’t fully justify the price point.
The decor, style, and plating are all spot-on and congruent. The service is attentive and the food here comes at a steady pace. The biggest gripe is that their dishes are extravagantly priced considering what they offer you. None of the Hakozushi is worth it. Too expensive and fairly uninteresting at the price point. The edamame is flavorful but besides that, the appetizers also aren't anywhere worth it. For the price of the salmon usuzukuri, you could just get a full roll. It's ridiculous. You can get food comp'd for your birthday, mainly depends on how nice you and your server are. So if want to try this place, do it for a special occasion.
I want to begin by recognizing and apologizing to our server Noah. We could tell you were honestly ashamed by the kitchen’s failure to deliver an omakase experience for two and appreciate your efforts to soften the blow of disappointment for something we were quite excited to try. We’ve been to Oku in Greenville a good number of times. It’s one of our favorite places for a nice meal and I’ve always told people that we’ve never had a bad experience or bad meal there, at least until now. We booked omakase for two at 5:30 pm, two weeks in advance via calling the restaurant, as the menu states there’s limited availability, so I wanted to make sure I was clear about our reservation and what we were coming in to do. It was recommended that we come early as it is a longer dinner (around 2 hours). When we arrived, this was perhaps not communicated, as when I told our server that we were there for omakase, he said he would have to ask the kitchen if they would be able to do this. I then mentioned about the steps I’d taken above, and he went and checked and said the kitchen was good to go. He warned us that the start is usually slow, but after the first couple, it picks up and is a good amount of food, so hoped we were hungry. We definitely were but were optimistic everything would be great. From 5:30pm - 7:30 PM we’d been served 4 of the 8 courses. If you do the math on that, it’s about 1 course every 30 minutes. Now imagine that you arrived hungry and you're waiting 30 minutes to eat 3-4 slices of excellently prepared fish in about 1-2 minutes. I will recognize that the first three courses were delicious, but it wasn’t anything substantial, so by the time the nigiri 2.5 hours into the dinner, I was nauseated. At this point, we were contemplating ordering something off the main menu or leaving. Our server made it back around and we asked how much longer it would be for the rest of the meal and he said the next course would be out any second. Shortly after, we received 6 raw oysters and asked for the check. In nearly 3 hours, we received 6 of the 8 courses and had watched the entire restaurant turn over at least twice, and decided we didn’t want to see it change over a third, so paid and left. One would assume that if clients book the tasting menu, that there would be a little more of an effort from the kitchen as they’re wanting to experience your top dining offering; however, it felt like we were an inconvenience. Again, this has nothing to do with our server - he was just as much along for the ride as we were, and it was clear we all wanted the experience to end. We still really like O-ku, but will be very hesitant to try the omakase from the chef again (maybe it should just be taken off the menu?).
