Opinions de Baci Cafe & Wine Bar Healdsburg
The service was very polite and quick. The food was also killer, it is a bit pricy but the quality is definitely worth it. The only downside is that it is hard to have a conversation when it is packed but not overly loud. The setting is very relaxing but upscale would definitely recommend for a date night, or special occasion.
Terrific restaurant just off the Healdsburg Square. I got the pistachio crusted halibut which was fantastic. My girlfriend got a pasta which was also nice. The other person in our group got the ossobuco with risotto. They said it was excellent. So many great restaurants to try an Healdsburg but you can add this one to the list to try at some point. Wish we had saved room for the gelato sampler for dessert. The corkage fee of $25 seems excessive, but given the region and the type of wine some people might be bringing in maybe not.
What a great last minute dinner decision. We were up in the area for a hockey tournament. A last minute dinner decision led us to this restaurant. We came without a reservation around 5pm with 8 people. And we were lucky enough to get seated in the private wine library room. Nico was our waiter and took excellent care of us. The wine selection was excellent and a large menu to choose from. The dinner menu was also very large and had all kinds of yummy options. In fact none of us picked the same meal. The pasta was cooked perfectly. I'll definitely want to come back next year and make a reservation. Oh and the chef came in to ask us how everything was! That was a wonderful surprise.
Tonight, Baci was a full 5 star on food even if only a 3.5 on ambiance. A local standby, the food was world class with the Insalat di Pesca and the vegetable risotto both beyond outstanding. Do not walk by without dining. I can't believe that in my 17 years visit Healdsburg we have just discovered this jewel.
We had an amazing meal! Our waiter was attentive, and gave great advice as to which wine to order with our meal choices. I had sole/crab, over a bed of sautéed spinach and risotto cake. It was lathered with lobster sauce, and scrumptious! My husband had Al Forno, which was crab wrapped in paper thin pasta, similar to a canoli type dish. He couldn't get over how thin and light the pasta was. It was a lovely dining experience, Thank you!
Just a fun Locals spot with fresh pastas
Baci cafe was a great place to eat. We were a large group, ten people, but they accommodated us. And the food was excellent. We ended out sharing bites because everything was so delicious not to share.
You can't go wrong at Baci. We shared a burrata and prosciutto appetizer which was delicious and the prosciutto was tender. I had the sausage rigatoni in a red sauce and it was sooo delicious. Everyone enjoyed their entrees and they helped us celebrate a birthday with a tiramisu. Delicious. Can't wsit to return.
Excellent wine selection and deliciously simple fare make for a great dining experience. For larger groups they have a private room / wine cellar that is cozy and inspiring. Recommended +++!
One of the most enjoyable dining experiences I've had in a long time. The service is perfect, the wine was outstanding, the pasta melts in your mouth. I cannot wait to go back.
Had an excellent dinner here. Great wine selection and service. We had a large group of 10 and ate in the wine room off to the side of the main dining room. Everything was perfect. Highly recommend this fine restaurant.
Really enjoyed the braised beef ravioli with a glass of Zinfandel from Dry Creek. Tiramisu cheesecake was a nice light finish. Great service and appreciate their assistance with my wife who got crutches earlier that day.
Baci is absolutely one of the best Italian restaurants I have been to. I don't go too often considering it's a bit pricey, but wow it's so worth it! The last two times I went I got the Vitello Parmigiana and it was to die for. I felt a pang of remorse for having veal, but I'd do it again... It's that good. Ambiance, service, entrées and desserts are fabulous, and it's great for special occasions. 100% would highly recommend. I will be going back for sure. Only (minor) con is their lack of "traditional" soda. I don't drink alcohol so my viable drink options are a bit slim, but the quality of the food more than makes up for that.
David was an excellent waiter recommending appetizers, main dishes and wines to perfectly meet our desires. The scallop appetizer, the runico salad, followed by my husband's perfect Bolognese and my osso buco with marrow! Gastronomic heaven! The place was full to the rafters, pleasantly noisy, yet service spot on. Highly recommend.
Sublime. Impeccable service, wonderful wine list and simply marvelous food. The veil combination dish with risotto was one of the best dishes I've had in quite a long time since I lived in New York City. Do not pass Go, just Go!
From the food and wine to Marco's superb service, we could not have concluded our girls' wine country trip any better. If you are in the Healdsburg area, make time for a dinner at Baci's!
Generous portions of very tasty food. Particularly enjoyed braised short ribs over the best creamy polenta while we ife savored the risotto . Tutti de mare in which only the squid were a bit chewy.
Cute little spot right off the plaza in Healdsburg. Serves very high end dishes for what I consider only a medium-high price. For instance, I enjoyed a delicious almond crusted salmon with potatoes and a sauce gravy for about $30. The portions were adequate and quality excellent, as was the service. For a special night out, I recommend Bacci.
Food was excellent with very high quality ingredients. The chef really takes the time to perfect his recipes. One of the best caesar salads we’ve had. We recommend getting a combination meal, can’t go wrong with either the veal piccata with carbonara or the ossobuco with mushroom risotto.
Excellent food. Veal parmesan was the best I've ever had. A real treat. The service was warm and friendly. Highly recommended.
We are Healdsburg residents and eat here weekly. They have fabulous Italian cuisine and great Seafood. Nightly specials and many delicious salads. Wood-Fired brick oven for pizzas and other oven roasted specialties. Wonderful Professional Service and consistent and outstanding dishes. The chef even comes out into the dining room and talks to his guests. His wife the hostess and front room manager is very attentive to the customers kind caring and aware of everything. We have never been disappointed and have eaten here at least 30 times.
Fantastic restaurant, highly recommended. Food was spectacular. Party of 4 with different dishes and we all loved what we got, including appetizers and/ or salad.
By far this is one of the best restaurants I have ever been to. While somewhat noisy on a Friday night (expected though, as the place was packed) the dinner was spectacular! My wife and I ordered the 5 course Chef's Choice. After we placed our order the chef and owner (Shari Sarabi) came to our table side and we had a very nice discussion about what kind of things we like and dislike. After this he told us he was going to make something special just for us - and did he ever! Each course (I'm sorry, I do not recall what they were after 3 weeks between then and now) was delectable, extremely well-balanced (taste-wise), and utterly fantastic. Truly, a wonderful gem in Healdsburg and in all the culinary world. Go and you will not be disappointed!
What a special place. Food is great, service is prompt, and professional with a small serving of humor. On the pricey side. Great wine selection.
I recommend Baci to all. I have dined there 20x's and never been let down. Its a great meal, fresh ingredients, generous portions and very comfortable. Its not as trendy as some - but more consistent than others... I think dollar for dollar its one of the best values - with a good locals wine list... and I highly recommend.
We attended a friend's birthday dinner and used their private room. The food was very good and the service was excellent. I had the lamb shank. It was very tender and not too fatty.
Delightful dinner and wine here with friends. Waitstaff was very attentive and quick to respond, and as a plus kept the fresh bread coming to help soak up that sauce! The gnocchi alla bolognese was delicious, I highly recommend it.
M y Husband and I have come to this place twice for our anniversary , and they have never let us down. The food is just so flavorful, the wine choices are perfect, and the service is incredible here. I highly recommend this place if you want to have a fancy night out or to celebrate an occasion or just to eat some very good food. i also recommend making reservations prior to visiting, as it does get pretty full
I had an amazing dinner here tonight. My son fell asleep which rarely happens. It was my birthday last week so I decided why not still celebrate. The restaurant had no tables available for some time. I told the kind woman who was the hostess that I did not mind a bit of a wait. She said ok , but then she thought of giving me a private table near the entrance which they were using for their sanitation station. This was PERFECT for me, it was private away from all others and she turned the phone near by off to not disturb Jr. This was ideal! The service was attentive and friendly even with the heat and Corona madness! The food was to die for! The prices were reasonable. Best Pomodoro I have had in awhile. I am half Italian so I tend to be picky. his was a blessing and the wine selection is on point! My dear toddler awoke just in time for the check. Highly recommend ! Excellent food, service and atmosphere.
We were walking around first night here. Most restaurants were closed on Monday. We walked into this beautiful cafe. Felt like we were in Tuscany ! We didn’t have a reservation but the ladies at the front took a chance one would no show and sat us table for 3. We couldn’t have been happier ! The service was amazing. Water done. Refill immediate. Bread finished boom another piece. We all had pasta which was fresh and delicious. The highest recommendation. Don’t miss this place.
We had the most wonderful experience. The food and drinks were a 10/10. Our server Sherri was absolute perfection. She really made the whole dining experience!
Delicious Italian eats and great selection of local wine. This was a recommendation from our tasting host at Flowers and you can’t go wrong! The gnocchi bolognese was excellent as well as their salsiccia pizza. Great service as well as overall ambiance.
Fantastic Italian Restaurant with an extensive menu. All food that we ordered was tasty and the perfect portion size. Antipasto, main course, and dessert were all amazing.
Great meal at Baci last night with a group of 8. Service was really friendly, and quick. It felt like everyone who worked there enjoyed their job. We shared the Burrata appetizer (x3), and the special insalata di barbabietole (x3). Both were delicious and a nice start to the meal. I had the bucatini all’amatriciana, which was the perfect sized portion, with great flavor and nice spice. My husband had a breaded eggplant dish with a side of pasta that he ravenously devoured. We all agreed that everything ordered was delicious and we can’t wait to return.
Food & wine here is outstanding. Service is superb. One of the best Italian restaurants in the area.
Baci has an extensive menu with great options. The atmosphere and service was lovely. We didn’t have reservations on a Saturday night and though they were busy, they found a table and sat us immediately. It’s great restaurant for any occasion and I look forward to coming back!
Excellent restaurant. Baci serves the type of unpretentious and classic good food with premium service that is a delightful counter to the overly hyped and overly fussed restaurants that land in all the foodie magazines and end up with Michelin stars for the effort, but leave you hungry or oddly dissatisfied. Baci came highly recommended to us from some locals and we were glad we came. The pasta and risotto dishes were great, as were the salads. The osobuco was one of the best I’ve had. Our service from Frank was top class and welcoming. This is the restaurant we feel we would be most likely to come back to time and time again- especially when we want a laid back atmosphere that doesn’t sacrifice food quality or service. Not that we don’t enjoy the fancy digs on occasion, but Baci left a mark and made us feel very welcome. Thank you!
The private room ia great for larger parties. Fantastic food and amazing service.
Amazing service the atmosphere is great and what a fresh delicious menu
Wonderful experience! The food was amazing. Best authentic Italian food. True Italian food. Would highly recommend.
We love! The food & wine pairings were amazing, and we were in expert hands with Frank! Thank you again and looking forward to coming back soon
Can't say enough good things about Baci Cafe & Wine bar. The food was wonderful. The ambience is perfect. And the staff were all exquisite - attentive to every detail. In a town known for the quality of its restaurants, Baci stands out. Dining at Baci was a wonderful and memorable experience. Thank you to everyone who helped make my uncle's 100th birthday truly special.
Always nice when the owners take the time to say hello and visit their customers. One of the nicest bartenders I have run into. Totally packed and yes the food we ordered was wonderful. Worth the trip, make a reservation or go at 5 and sit at the bar.
The cuisine is exceptional, and we have dined there repeatedly. Every menu item is consistently excellent. The desserts are equally remarkable, and the food is always fresh and flavorful. Furthermore, the staff is friendly and welcoming.
A hidden gem in Healdsburg! The spare ribs are an absolute must—perfectly tender and rich in flavor. If you’re celebrating a special occasion or anniversary they do have a special heart shaped table. ❤️
Everything was AMAZING!! we asked the waiter (frank) was one of the best waiters who served us. We asked him to pair wine to the dishes we chose and it was perfect. We celebrated a birthday and he gave us a complimentary desserts which was amazing. And even when he made a mistake with the bill (that we were to wined to notice) he ran after us and fixed it Over all, amazing experience in healdsburg. Highly recommended!!!
Excellent!! We had a mishap with a reservation falling through at another restaurant and were scrambling to find a table during Food and Wine weekend. A local told us to come here. They made room us and it was such an incredible experience! Service was fantastic, the chef came out to meet us. Food was absolutely delicious. Such kind and welcoming owners. Amazing find! 🙌🏻
Food was great, staff was friendly and attentive. Highly recommend.
incredible service and lovely food, the best lamb ragut i’ve ever had
Nice ambience. Frank our server was attentive and informative about the menu. Lobster ravioli was tasty. Homemade pasta stuffed with good amount of lobster with delicious creamy sauce and not overly salty. Pomodoro angel hair pasta tasted good. Gnocchi bolognese with slow cooked veal was excellent. Pistachio gelato and mango sorbet were refreshing to end the lovely dinner.
A Healdsburg favorite for 16 years. The food is amazing and the service is attentive and friendly. The wine list is extensive and affordably priced. You’re treated like a friend, not a customer.
Best Italian food in town! 🇮🇹 The peach salad was fresh and amazing, the lamb shank was perfectly cooked and full of flavor, and both the tiramisu and panna cotta were absolutely delicious. Highly recommend!
We've been coming to Baci for over 10 years every time we're in town. We even skipped a trip to town when we learned they wouldn't be open. Everything is delicious. The braised short ribs and accompanying red wine sauce are the best I've had in a dozen countries and a dozen states. Every time I think I'll have overhyped them in my mind, but every time they are better than I remembered. Five stars isn't enough for this establishment!
We came for our anniversary and it was very cute and nice. The staff was friendly and really made our evening special. They got us a great seat and gave us a special dessert. The food was all so good! Loved the Tagliatelle con Capesante e Funghi, would get it again. The carbonara was good but not our favorite ever. Would definitely come back and plan to, it’s great for a meal with friends or a special occasion.
Another great place to have dinner. The service and the food are great.
We had a fantastic service. Will definitely go back. Dinner was amazing!
Wonderful dining experience, delicious fresh pasta, and impressive wine selection. The staff were beyond attentive, friendly and welcoming. I had the angel hair pasta with fresh tomatoes and garlic. The angel hair melted in my mouth and reminded me of being back in Rome. The owner is a sweetheart and was down to earth and warm and friendly. Our server Sean was incredibly friendly and helpful. An overall great dining experience. **dessert was the best part—so worth visiting.
Lobster ravioli to veal combinations are ravishing. Favorite Caesar salad and seasonal specials command repeat visits. Great local and Italian wines. Experienced professional staff maintain high standards. Something here for everyone in your party.
This restaurant read my online reservation request and honored what I needed. The staff greeted us with a smile, great conversation, and a wonderful table. The waiter was patient and skilled at his job. He took complex orders with attention to the details, and every dish was brought out as asked. The food was not drowning in seasonings, heavy salt or other "natural " flavors of cheap food that's warmed in a microwave (smile). The chef was skilled at his station! The meals rolled out with precision. The dinner was delicious, the cost was on par for the taste and as such, we ordered an extra entrée to take with us! The atmosphere of a European setting was felt (spaced tables, conversation, and yet a calm environment where we all felt like we had a private dinner. Beautiful first experience, and I will be sharing my next! Update: it's been 2 years since I had the opportunity to travel up to Baci. This is my holiday atmosphere restaurant! The staff are very friendly and hospitable. The owner thanked us for coming. The food was fresh, the chef's staff made every dish taste like we were in Europe. After spending so many years living and traveling abroad, Baci is my favorite place to savor the same level of dishes only found in Europe. I look forward to the upcoming 7 course fest in March!
My husband took me for my Birthday on a Friday night. They sat us a a cute table out of the way. The drinks, appetizer and the entrees were fantastic. One of the better restaurants I've been to in a long time. I definitely recommend this place.
Had the most amazing 5 star experience at Baci - we have tried lots of restaurants including ones all over Italy and Chef owner Shari has some really special dishes here that you won’t get in other italian restaurants- the Short Rib Ravioli for example, was absolutely to die for!! All the other dishes were so well executed, all the meat dishes were melt in your mouth soft! Very extensive, rare wine list also by owner and sommelier Lisbeth. Owners and all waitstaff were exceptionally warm and friendly. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting Healdsburg/Sonoma/Napa and will definitely return if we get the chance!!
Very impressed. Very knowledgeable, friendly staff and a feeling of being in an upscale home. Portions were great, especially the desserts! Was there for a work event, now i will go back with my family.

We sat at the bar and fortunately had Sean (spelling?) who was absolutely amazing. Knew his drinks, food, etc. Great personality. Food was all great but honestly kudos to Sean for making it special. Local info, etc. Fully enjoyed our evening at Baci.
Excellent dining experience. Our waiter was helpful and attentive but made it clear that it was okay to slow down and enjoy the food and wine. We had the peach salad w/burrata (a seasonal item) and it was a treat. The creamy polenta was excellent; I had it with slow braised short ribs w/vegetables. A great night.
We stayed in Healdsburg for the first time and we wanted to have some amazing and fresh meals and we loved the way Baci Cafe sounded and their food looked super cool! We made a reservation a few weeks in advance via our resort concierge and we arrived early to walk around Healdsburg. There is plenty of free street and parking lot parking in the area. We went in the restaurant about 10 minutes early and we received a really warm greeting from the restaurant hostess and they showed us to our table. From the restaurant bus staff to the servers, they were all so warm and welcoming. They came by first and brought us water and a drink list. We ordered a bottle of wine to start, they had a range of wine selections available. They also allow you to bring a bottle of wine, but there is a pretty hefty corkage fee, so for us it made more sense just to order a bottle of wine at the restaurant. The server also came by and brought us fresh bread and olive oil. We ordered the Caesar Salad to start ($16) and the salad was really good and fresh. For entrees, we ordered two pastas to share (one of the pastas on the specials menu for around $30) all including local fresh ingredients, and the Tagliatelle alla Carbonara ($23). They also came by and gave us more bread upon request, and everything was so tasty, we really enjoyed all of the food and very warm and welcoming service!

Good Italian food. The gnocchi was cooked perfectly. The service was very good. Wide selection on the menu. It was a little loud when we were there and they were very busy.
The food was quite good. I ordered the osobucco very nice. The lobster ravioli was also good. Not a big fan of the bolognese, which my wife ordered. The only complaint was the atmosphere - it was pretty sterile.
Great food and staff! Wine was good too. We were seated without a reservation only because someone had just cancelled and we so appreciated the hostess doing that. This was Friday night and the only complaint I have is the noise level was pretty high. I don't know if it is always that busy but, being a full house, contributed.
We had reservations, and on arrival we got seated right by the front door, wind blowing every time that door opened. Noise level was very high. Waiter was great, main dish was a little short on meat sauce, desert was also great. I will go back but l will not sit in the overflow section again. I do want to check out more of the menu. Yes l know its the holidays but reservations need to mean something and that was the excuse and it missed the mark with me.
I always love this place. The braised short ribs are amazing. Do not expect waived corkage or any locals treatment but still a great great dinner. They do carry good wine so maybe just leave the bottle at home.
A gem of a restaurant. We were a group of six and ordered by "couple". I think we should have ordered as a group and shared our plates for a better experience. I had a salad (rucola) that was outstanding. My husband had carbonara that was OK and the portion was very small. We ordered a tiramisu and gelato for dessert and totally enjoyed both.
As we support our local businesses while under SIP we decided to give Baci a go on take out curbside. The food was pretty amazing and generous in portion size, the staff was super friendly, the only downside was the pricing although if it were dine in for a special occasion it would be acceptable, however take out for 3 and 130.00 later with no desserts or alcohol was a little pricey for locals. Would we return? Most definitely, the food was worth it. But we'll save it for a special occasion after the SIP is lifted.
This is a good, not great restaurant and should be thought of as a weeknight dinner as opposed to a special meal. The atmosphere is lively and made up mostly of locals. The service is warm and friendly but disappeared for stretches. Expensive corkage given their wine list - Fava Bean Appetizer - ugh, served in shells - no good - Carpaccio - Good beef, loved the capers and Parmesan, could definitely use some greens. OK - Osso Bucco - Nice and tender but relatively small serving. Accompanying vegetables were nicely cooked. Get
We are always out to look for great Italian restaurants and this is one! Great eye for details from bread till oil and vinegar. Fabulous dishes but over all pretty pricey
This is a very solid Italian restaurant with a varied menu, very good food and great service. We have been there twice now. My wife appreciates that they offer gluten-free pasta, and numerous other dishes can be made gluten free.
4.1/5 the grilled shrimp is delicious, amazing use of feta cheese, lemon and olive oil. The cabonara with tagliatelle is somewhat disappointing. It’s nice but didn’t create the creamy mouthfeel that I believe it should show… ( I make cabonara myself with egg and parmasen ) and the sense of onion and garlic is a bit too obvious for me (I don’t put them in my recipe) maybe you shouldn’t use tagliatelle too, maybe im old fashioned but i think spaghetti is the way to go. good vibe and service

We have vacationed in Healdsburg multiple times and had never visited Baci, so we made a point to dine there this trip. This restaurant is very clearly a place where locals go to get a decently priced meal (as evidenced by 85% of the people walking in warmly greeting the owner at the door), which is fine but if you are on vacation looking for a stellar dinner worthy of your time I'd look elsewhere. We started the meal with the Burrata, which was not pleasant...the leek mixture (which was very much under seasoned) was warm & gave the cheese a very odd lukewarm, undesirable texture. My husband had the tagliatelle carbonara, which was the best thing we were served honestly...but the sauce was very thin & the side of chicken he added to it was very dry. I ordered the tagliatelle with pan seared scallops & sauteed mushrooms. As evidenced by my photo, these poor scallops never saw any salt, butter or a pan. Neither had the mushrooms. It's as if they threw everything raw in with a sauce and cooked it like a quick stew. Totally disappointing to see such nice ingredients treated this way. Service was fine but honestly you probably have better food at a local Italian joint wherever you are from. There are many other restaurants in Healdsburg & the surrounding area that are more worthy of your money.
Good standard Italian food but nothing special. Would have given 4 stars but pretty overpriced for what the meal was. For the money much more interesting food in the square. The paperdelle was tasty though and I'd order it again.
At first I was a bit skeptical about trying this place out since the rating's weren't as high as I expected, but I figured why not try it out and my sister wanted Italian food. The service wasn't stellar. It was good... but didn't seem to stretch further than a "good" rating. The food spoke for itself - simple, refined, and damn tasty. I have had plenty of Italian food in my lifetime, but Baci takes the cake. It's a bit pricey but you'll love your dish. Gnocchi: great. Risotto: great. Pizza: great. Solid 3.5
I found this place overrated. My food was good but far from great. For dessert we had cannoli and it was terrible, we literally didn't finish it. Tasted like cardboard. Small portions and high prices. We left hungry and disappointed. The service and atmosphere were good, but the servers are all lined up against the wall facing you while you eat?? Didn't like that. Would not go back.
This restaurant came highly recommended from a winemaker friend, so we decided to book it on our last night in the area. The place was easy to find and the ambiance was lively with a pretty locals-only feeling crowd. Our server was an older gentleman with a heavy accent (probably Italian). He was nice enough, but something about his demeanor changed when he realized my husband wasn't drinking. And the service went downhill from there. No warmth. No engagement. Just served our food (and slowly) and that was that. The food was good, but, for the money, I probably would choose another more friendly restaurant on our next trip back. Not worth it if the service is attitudinal. Had to subtract a star for lack of service. (Also, no full bar, just wine and beer.)
The service was fantastic. This is a casual Italian restaurant, you'll definitely need reservations on a weekend. We had the Fettucini con Gambeterri and the Capellini al Pomodoro...it was just okay, pick something else. They probably have some amazing dishes but the menu is too big, over 50 dishes. Should focus on 10-15 and really make everything shine.

I really hate writing this review and only giving Baci 3 stars. We have been here on several occasions and always had a good experience with excellent food. This past Thursday was a far less pleasant experience. The food was still very good and I have very little complaint there. The service was uneven at best. Our waiter was certainly pleasant but one of our party had to ask for more water 4 times before it came. Another member of our party had to wait 10-15 minutes for their meal after everyone else had been served. While these things were certainly frustrating the worst part of the experience may have been the never ending parade of people visiting with the table behind us. People continued to bump into members of our group while we were trying to enjoy our meal. I understand you have regular customers that you want to take great care of but please don’t do this at the expense of other diners. I’ll give Baci one more try as I have always had a good meal when there but if the experience is the same as this week we will take them off our list when in Healdsburg. There are far too many dining options.

Service was excellent. Food fell far short of our expectations. Ordered a fish of the day special. It showed up looking like 2 fish sticks at a school cafeteria. It tasted "OK" but, my thought after seeing it was "Really"? For the price and the location in a trendy Napa Valley tourist winery town, what I paid for 2 dinners was at least twice as much as it should have been. My wife's entree was equally as disappointing. Lots of choices in Healdsburg, but I would steer away from this one. I read lots of very positive reviews. Maybe we ordered their two weakest items. I observed many other plates being delivered to other guests. I didn't see anything overly impressive in anything I saw. Sorry. I never complain at restaurants. This is the first time.
Let me start by saying that the food at Baci is EXCELLENT. That said, we had probably our most ungracious and disturbing restaurant experience ever here on a Thursday night (June 6). My husband and I had each ordered a $40+ entree and a glass of wine. As I said, the food was excellent. Our waitress, an older woman, commented on our "small check" and asked if we'd like to see the dessert menu. We looked at it but decided to forego being at the restaurant any longer than we had to be. The restaurant was pretty full and seated next to us was a father and his 8 year old son. The son was dressed like Michael Jackson in a cute bedazzled black shirt & pants (in case the restaurant might recognize the patron, who seemed to be a regular.) The son had apparently just arrived to spend some vacation time with his dad for who was separated or divorced from the boy's mother. The father verbally intimidated the boy throughout dinner, verbally abused the boy's mother during a call to let her know the boy had arrived by calling her every name imaginable and dropping f-bombs while the waiter continued to bring him more glasses of wine seemingly unbidden. When we declined to order dessert and asked the waitress for our check, she again made a comment about our small check and didn't return with it for so long that I left the restaurant because I thought that might expedite it and because I couldn't bear to witness a moment more of what was going on at the next table. This child will probably in therapy for years at some point. When the waitress finally returned, she presented our "tiny" check to my husband. I guess to her, 2 higher end entrees plus 2 glasses of wine weren't enough. My husband left her a "tiny" tip of about 12-15% - much larger than she deserved. But, in these days of pooled tips he didn't want to stiff other staff who might get a share of the tip, but he did want to leave some kind of message.
I really wanted to like this place and write a nice review, but it's hard to overcome the feeling of being discriminated against when you are placed at a table right next to the kitchen at 5 pm. Food was excellent. Waiter service was impeccable. But the maitre de gave the lame excuse that they were completely booked when we requested to be moved to a better table. The real test was how full the restaurant was 1 hour and 45 minutes later when we departed- not even two thirds full. Also watching guests who arrived after us request a different table and having the request accommodated was additionally galling.
