This place was better than I expected it to be. We ordered the caprese sandwich and fries to go.. omg that sandwich was amazing! It had a whole chicken breast on it, the pesto was fantastic, the roll was homemade and absolutely delicious. It had a garlic aioli and about 5 other ingredients on it. 10/10.. fries were hand cut, even the ketchup was homemade. While we waited for the food, they had a bunch of OG arcade games to play for free. Donkey Kong, Street Fighter, Centipede, Pac Man.. all the good ones. Free pool tables, and a smoking area in the back with an awning and a stage. Will definitely be back.. would recommend.
Stopped at 2nd Street Social on our way to Fredericksburg… the patty melt and cheeseburger sliders were delicious, juicy, and fresh! I later realized I’d left my purse there with my cards, cash, and AirPods. The staff were incredibly honest and kept it safe until I returned two days later. Picked it up and enjoyed their amazing latte too! Great food and even better people ! Highly recommend!
A delicious and enjoyable experience. One of my favourite cafés of all time! I ordered a frappe and they asked if I wanted it sweet, which is nice because frappes usually come too sweet (they offered to add honey, vanilla, etc as sweetener options). I like the way they blended it and I can taste the natural matcha flavour with the drink I ordered since it’s not drowned out by the sweetness. Update: Hey! They moved the building so the café now has an arcade, grass-fed burgers, a kids’ menu, and so much more options for breakfast and lunch! There is a small kids’ play area/house and the sofas are very comfortable too.
Such a cute little place! You walk into a welcoming atmosphere that has couches and a playhouse in the front. Then there's tables and arcade games in the back. Along with pool tables and Foosball. We had their homemade classic burger and fries. Even their ketchup is homemade! Everything was delicious, even down to their sweet tea. They also have baked goods, breakfast foods, soups, sandwiches, coffees, teas and smoothies. Great little lunch stop on our way south.
Real cute setup and had a great variety over all! And the staff was real helpful since I was trying to narrow my choices! They also have Boba tea!! Went back at the beginning of Feb, so should see what they've got going on for this season! Love how they have each room set up and there was back yard seating as well as on the porch with porch swings 🥰
Stopped by Hico for a coffee break, while on a road trip with my family. Was curious to learn more about the city, hoping for a new experience, instead of just visiting the common local coffee place. How exciting was to visit 2nd St Bakeshop and Coffee. The owner was very friendly, and shared info about her business ran in this Victorian style home, built in 1855, transformed in this amazing bakery and coffee shop. it’s a special and unique place and I felt very lucky to have stopped by. We had excellent lattes in ceramic cups and also a delicious expresso. It is a must if you are in Hico!
Very delicious baked goods presented beautifully. A lovely historic house in the city of Hico is home to this quality coffee bar and bakery. There were even keto options. The employees were friendly and efficient. The coffee is mellow and the drink menu extensive. We thoroughly enjoyed! The shop was a surprise to us. There are less than 2000 residents in Hico, but this is a city on the rise.
Quaint coffee shop in an adorable setting in a home built in 1883! Friendly staff & very helpful in making our choices. My husband & I split a cheeseburger calzone & piece of German chocolate cake-delicious! I purchased one of their cute mugs for my tea or hot chocolate. Definitely a must stop!
The food was great, lovely atmosphere. They have family games that you can use while waiting for your food. A very inviting place, sweet waitress.

They are all super sweet and so nice and everything they have is so good! I love it and go as often as often as I can. We all really enjoy the staff, food, coffee, and everything they offer. And the atmosphere is perfect!
It's nice but we miss them being in the house and the extra bakery items. This has always been a must stop place on our 281 drive. Great coffee and pastry items including vegan ones. Not as cozy in this new space but it's nice for the new direction they're going. Food is still great. Smoothie was nice on a 95 degree day. Skip the more well known place at the corner and stop here.
We were happy to spot this little gem open on a Sunday evening while driving through. Visited the drive through and was met with a young lady with a great smile who quickly made our three drinks. We drink specialty lattes everywhere, and even serve them ourselves— and we were so impressed with the flavor of the peppermint mocha. No flavor was overpowering or overly sweet and it was just the right recipe. Definitely will make a point to stop here again.

Very delicious southwest salads and smoothies. My 8 year old had the grilled chicken sliders with fruit. We will come back if we ever pass through at lunch time again. Cool, creative, and casual atmosphere.
I chose this breakfast place because they serve chai. The staff was friendly and welcoming. Lots of interesting activities inside of you plan to hang out a while. We had the biscuits and gravy, not as good as it looked. The biscuits were off, maybe just a bad day. The iced chai was great!
Great place with great service. Try the chicken salad. Coffee was pretty good too. Good old fashioned country little town.

The ambience is really great here. From arcade machines to pool tables, mini bar, outside sitting and even sofas to sit. My only take is that $70 for 4 burgers, not including sides nor drinks, its a bit too expensive. Food was very good and tasty.

Service was good, the building itself seems like a fun place for locals to hang out, but the burger I got was way too expensive for the quality. I got the 2nd Street Burger, and the best part about it was that the avocado and lettuce were fresh and tasty, but the patty was bland, the cheese seems to be the queso you buy in a jar (and it was a mess), and the bacon tasted like school cafeteria food. If I come back, I'm not getting a burger again. The most atrocious part was the fries, which are not included in the $16 price of the burger. They were bland, dry, overcooked, and possibly a bit stale. They look and taste sickly and frail. Maybe it's just because I came in at a slow hour (around 3pm) but man was it a disappointing meal. (I did eat most of it, as seen in the photo, because I was quite hungry, but that doesn't mean I enjoyed it.) The coffee, however, was delicious. If you want a good coffee and good service, this is a good place to go. Just think twice about ordering a burger.

I’m new to this area, This was my first visit, I ordered my daughter a cinnamon roll, myself a large iced coffee, and a black bean burrito! I asked questions about the burrito and then chose the black bean because it had cheese! It was very hot so I didn’t open until I left, and it was actually sausage egg and cheese burrito. I don’t eat pork so that was an issue. My daughter’s cinnamon roll was so hot it melted the plastic container it was in. We had to let it cool awhile and I am grateful it was hot but it was over heated and hard as a rock by the time it was cool enough to eat. My coffee was okay, but the window says they have 32oz (which I assumed was large) unfortunately the cup I got was maybe 20 or 24 oz. The lady at the window was nice enough but I had to also wait because I didn’t get napkins or a straw. I think this place could be great! I’d much rather support local than corporate but I’m hopeful my second visit goes better than my first or I’ll have to go elsewhere.
Expensive for what you get. Stopped in to try it as we are through Hico every two weeks. There are at least 3 other places I’d pick over this place. The exterior is attractive (It was remodeled after sitting empty for years). The interior is disjointed and not clean. I feel like they don’t really know what they want to be. There were probably 4 women working there, none were friendly. Service was perfunctory. I ordered Caprese sandwich, spouse ordered burger and fries. Sandwiches do not come with anything, fries chips are extra. My caprese sandwich had a large thick piece of chicken that was not seasoned, tomatoes seemed fresh, pesto was ok. My husbands burger had a good flavor and was decently cooked. SKIP the fries—limp, flavorless and overcooked. Iced tea didn’t taste fresh. The restaurant has arcade games that may or may not work, some seemed to work, others were out of order. Two bathrooms but one was out of order. The whole restaurant seemed to need a good cleaning and was messy. Overall we got the feeling they didn’t know what they wanted to be and really didn’t care. Sad as Hico is our usual lunch spot on our trip but we won’t be stopping here again.

The service was fantastic—friendly and attentive. The coffee had a great flavor, but the breakfast was not great. I’d recommend stopping by for coffee or maybe lunch, but I’d skip breakfast. Also, their homemade ketchup tasted surprisingly like cocktail sauce, which wasn’t a great match for the meal.
Very strange place. We got iced tea that was hot. They were out of most food. The chicken sandwich was dark meat chicken that was gross. The chicken sliders were the same deal. We ate 2 bites and left. Plus you order at the counter and pay and then you have to go get your food when it’s ready and they ask for a tip when you pay. Tables were left unbussed and one of the girls was behind the counter reading a book. Definitely would skip this place in the future.
We stopped at this roadside spot when the kitchen was closed (maybe because it’s a Sunday?), but the bakery and coffee was open. I was sold the driest muffin I’ve ever had in my life unfortunately and it cost $4, and was pretty small. Very disappointing after the positive reviews I see here! 😞 the back of the place looked fun though.
