Opinions de Cheung Sheng Chinese Hollister
We just found our new "go to" Chinese food restaurant in Hollister. The service was great and the food was excellent. We got orange chicken, pork chow mein, shrimp fried rice and hot and sour soup. The chicken wasn't overly glazed like many Chinese restaurants do and the fried rice was perfect. Not too greasy or burnt. Great flavor. 👍
The food is excellent! I recommend the "original sweet and sour pork" but everything is freshly cooked. Service is fast and friendly.
Great food with excellent service! Wether it's a night out by yourself, or with family and friends this is the place to go. Perfect portions to please all appetites. I discovered this place over 10 yrs ago and my family and friends enjoy it every time! I'd write more, but you should really try it yourself. They really go the extra mile to make sure you get what your asking for.
We recently found this hidden gem while visiting friends over the holidays. The place was a traditional Chinese restaurant in the dinning room. The part that immediately struck me first was how quickly the waiter came over to answer any questions and take our order. The staff worked as a team and quickly attended to our every need. The food came out extremely quick and hot. I could immediately tell the food was made to order and had not been sitting under a heat lamp. The food was absolutely delicious and the prices were very reasonable. My entire family enjoyed the food and the experience. The owner even took the time to talk to my 9 year old son who was admiring his Koi fish. They talked for several minutes about he Koi. It definitely reminded me how important it is to support family owned businesses.
It was very good. I used to eat there when I was a kid, and now I still do thank you. The food was good and delicious.
Best Chinese food I have ever had. Coming from San Jose, I have been soiled with a variety of Chinese food restaurants. This place in Hollister beats all of them! The wonton soup was perfect, the beef chow mein was fresh and hot. The noodles had a grilled seared flavor. I never had anything like it. The Mongolian beef was perfect. I cannot wait to order again in the future. This place is a must try!
Very Good lunch special and affordable.
I've been coming here for almost 20 years. I've seen all the iterations of this restaurant, and I have to say that the food preparation on my last visit is the best I have ever had. Compared with the other Chinese restaurants on the Central Coast, this food is superior ... Great Job!
The food was amazing and the service was nice. The food came out in great time. My two year old loved the noodles. We are from Santa Cruz, but were treated like we were locals great experience overall 👏🏽
Hands down the fastest service in Hollister from walk-in to food on the table. Great, freshly cooked food with real ingredients. I would choose this place over any other downtown! (Hunan chicken & fried rice)
Best Chinese restaurant in Hollister everything's always fresh. Never disappoints.
The food is good the service could be better
Food is definitely authentic and we really enjoyed having a birthday dinner there for my mom. It was sure worth the drive. Not expensive for feeding a group of 12.
Love their pork chow mein and now they have indoor dining and extended hours. The food is fresh and tastes delicious. When I want to treat myself and don't feel like cooking I go there. Great food and customer service.
This place gained a lifelong customer. Thekr food is really good. I got chicken chow mein, sweet and sour pork, egg rolls and crab rangoon, all really good and filling. It was enough to feed my family of 5. Good portions
Cheung Sheng Chinese is a great little restaurant in the heart of old downtown Hollister. The restaurant and seating area are fairly small but the taste of the food is big! I phoned in a large order for pickup for the family. First, the call was extremely fast. The person who took my order was pleasant and took down my order perfectly. He stated the food would be ready in about 20 minutes. I arrived a few minutes early and only waited 5 minutes while my order was finalized. My order was bagged and the server added about 10 fortune cookies, a few small containers of sweet & sour sauce, a few small containers of spicy chili sauce, and a few packets of soy sauce. Once home, our food was prepped and everything I ordered was included and still hot. Our favorite dishes from Cheung Sheng include Prawns with Honeyed Walnuts, Special Orange Chicken and their Chow Mein. Everything we ordered was so good including the appetizers. A quick note: the menu and prices on Facebook (Cheung Sheng doesn't have a website) are out of date. I've included some pics of their current menu and pricing. The items listed on the menu under Chef's Special recommendations are very good. Really good food and great service. Recommended!
We stopped by on Christmas Eve, so there was no dining. It was so crowded and we waited only around 15 minutes for 2 dishes. The food we got was really good! I like the pork dish a lot (Hunan pork). The portion is also giantic. I would definitely stop by this place when we go to Hollister next time.
Delicious, pork fried rice, chicken chow mein, cream cheese stuffed wontons. My friend had Mishu Pork and walnut shrimp and egg rolls and liked it. Meal came to $80 with tip which is typical for Chinese food, we always over order but always have leftovers for later that night and I don't mind pain a little more for quality food and it definitely was call of duty and very tasty. Waitstaff was a little "green" and never offered us hot tea or water. I had to ask for it and didn't get it until we reminded them when we asked for togo boxes at the end of the meal. Also, the processing of checks and getting together the to go orders is right in the middle of the restaurant as you walk in and are eating that's all you see and hear. The set up is kind of distracting and in fact every table and the convo seems to be on display. Maybe some more plants and dividers for the kitchen/cashier/togo prep/diners' tables. Seems like it would help with the acoustics and visuals.

The Chinese food here is the best I've ever had! Food always taste fresh and gourmet. I highly recommend and will definitely be back. So happy to have finally found a good Chinese restaurant.
Food was very tasty, and large portions. Service was very efficient and the appropriate level of attention. Atmosphere is casual and comfortable.
The food is delicious and very fresh here. They give you a lot of food for the price.
Staff is friendly. Food excellent. A little pricey but worth it.parking could be an issue on certain days . It a yes for me.
Just moved here and was looking for a go to Chinese restaurant. Well no longer searching everything is delicious here. People are friendly the owners seem nice. Great place. And if you let them know you are under the weather or have your PJ’s on they’ll come bring it to your car. Love this place.
The times that I’ve gone here the food and service has been on point! Prices are reasonable and portions are good. I’d recommend this place to get your Asian food fix in town! The small won ton soup is good to share between two people.
The restaurant is very nice and comfortable. I personally appreciate the seating distance from each table. The service is very prompt and hospitable. And of course the food is absolutely delicious. Fair prices for a night out. There is some parking in front and in the back of the building.

Food was good. Reasonably priced. Service was fast but once we had our food we didn't get visits for soda refills. When we pay alot for a drink it would have been nice to get a refill.
Not fine dining, but if you like your food court Chinese offerings, this place serves them hit and in very generous portions!
We were here on a Sunday afternoon. There were some people, the tables are set at a good distance. Inside is quiet, all I could hear was the people preparing the food 😊 We were seated right away and they brought our drinks and the food came within minutes. We order the family meal, which should be enough for 3-4 people. I think if you’re really hungry 2 people can finish everything. Sweet pork plate. Meat was not tender enough, but enough to eat it. 👍🏼 It might have been me, but i didn’t feel the food was greasy or salty 🤌🏼 I don’t think rice is fried either👍🏼 My belly was happy 😆 Thank you!
This was our first time at Cheung Sheng and we enjoyed it. We shared egg rolls, pepper chicken (I think), broccoli with spicy garlic sauce, and veggie chow mein. The egg rolls were very crispy. The filling was different, the ingredients were pureed instead of minced. The chicken was tasty, although there was a lot of celery and no peppers. The spicy garlic sauce on the broccoli was the highlight. It was delicious! The chow mein noodles were fresh and soft. Portions were generous. We were excited to find a good, local Chinese restaurant downtown.

We were in town house sitting and decided to try it out. We ordered mixed fried rice which was pretty good for same price as one or other. The wor wonton soup was pretty tasty and large size was pretty big. Lastly we ordered the chicken salad which the man at front said he liked to wait for pickup so the lettuce isn't soggy which we could appreciate! The salad was decent for the price, one size. The dressing was pretty good but grilled chicken instead of fried and leaf lettuce rather than iceberg kinda missing the crunchy texture but was good. Would we eat this again? Yeah probably!
Great food. Quick service. Nice people.
Really good food at reasonable prices. Dining room was sorta old and funky but it all worked together very well. Definitely our Chinese restaurant in Hollister.

Food pretty good, I have been here a couple of times and most have been with great service and delicious food. But, one of the times I went I had a rude waitress who got upset when I asked her a question. I didn’t see her the last time I went so hopefully she doesn’t work there anymore. She was nice at first but out of no where got an attitude. Hopefully that changed or she is now gone. I’ve waited a while to come back so hopefully I will continue to have great service.
Mediocre at best. I think what hurts the flavor of the food most is the overpowering level of sodium prevalent in everything, even the chow fan. I know a lot of Chinese restaurants that swear to use "no MSG" (and probably don't) that substitute the lack thereof with more salt. Service is great. Very fast and friendly. Prices are also reasonable for the portion sizes sold. I want to like it more, but I just can't get over all of the sodium-laden dishes. It's not good for ya.
The dan dan noodles were not good. Tasted like it had horseradish in it, which was a strange choice - it's usually got the Sichuan peppercorn and chilis/chili oil I believe. Everything else was pretty good, the salt and pepper squid was a standout - I would go back for that alone.
I ordered a lunch special. Steamed rice and cashew chicken for $9.99. I got a container of 75% white rice and 25% cashew chicken. The cashew chicken was full of celery and had hardly any chicken. A bunch of filler ingrediance for the price.

If you don't like something because it doesn't taste like normal or taste off, say something immediately, don't be like us and try to be polite and wait to say it discretely because they'll still charge you for the food you didn't eat even after you tell them it wasnt good at all. They'll come over and tell you loudly, when you're trying to be quiet about it because you feel bad, that you should have said something at the beginning, even though we are still sitting there so the issue can still be resolved, there's nothing he can do now even though they took the whole plate back and still made us pay for it with no resolution. Was told if I said something at the beginning, they could have switched out the plate, I don't understand why that still couldn't have been done since the bad meal was already paid for and taken back in full minus the 1 shrimp I tried and spit into my napkin! All this to say I'm going to start to say something from the jump now if it taste bad, no more feeling bad for restaurants or if the tables next to us hear the food is bad.
This used to be my favorite restaurant of all time as a kid and growing up through high school. But for some reason, the food tasted very off. Like it was missing flavor. The portions are a lot smaller too. I can tell there is new cooks. It saddens me.
Hands-down the worst Chinese food I've ever had. I used to live on the streets I have literally had better tasting Chinese food out of dumpsters in Capitol Hill Seattle. And what really pisses me off is they asked me if I wanted rice with my meal and then charged me 7 bucks for it with out saying it was extra . The waitress was very nice though
Walked in with my family of 6, we let the owner know. He told us it would be about 20 minutes for someone to finish and leave in order for us to get seating. He had two tables on the right of entrance each with 3 chairs. I asked my boyfriend to ask the owner if he can put the tables together so we can sit there. He rudely responded that “no I can’t use those, those are for take out.” Clearly he doesn’t know how to make use of the space he has there to service more customers. As my family and I decided he was so rude and we were going to take our $ elsewhere he was getting the table ready quickly, as we walked out he said “oh you didn’t want it?” Of course not the owner here is so hostile and rude, my family was regular customers at their previous location with previous ownership. So dissapointed!!
Me and my family have been going here since the early 2000s after the place burned down and they moved the food really went downhill. The food is pretty bad now and the last time I went I got food poisoning. Really sad honestly.
Arrived at 3:05pm, trying not to impact them at dinner time. After the person took my small take out order, one of the employees informed the person that took my order that they would be taking lunch now and that the order would not be ready until about 4:00 pm. I informed them that this is unacceptable and left. I do not understand how a restaurant that has struggled through the pandemic, can afford to turn away business. I spent my money at one of their competors
Been going here for a long time, but wont be anymore. Tastes horrible, plus the food portions are laughable, and then on top of that the price has gone way up!!
They treat disabled customers poorly and instead of owner accepting and apologizing for their employee's treatment they called me a liar. I told them to post their cameras footage and owner didn't even respond anymore. Not even worth getting mad, more like upset but oh well never stopping there again.
Worst Chinese food I've ever had. Period. Fried rice was not fried, Sweet & Sour Pork was hot but was like it was in the sauce for hours, not crispy.
The chicken dish had barely any chicken and was only filled with celery, which the menu did not mention either. The pepper chicken was quite bland and didn't really match the description on the menu. The service was quite slow, and a teapot I ordered was never brought out. Overall, it was a disappointing experience.
I never called and asked for refund in my life .It was so bad that I had to. Everything is just gross $80 for basically beef that is super tough tastes like nothing but soy sauce egg fo young just burnt. Just gross rice that is supposed to be fried and is just half white. Shrimp was basically all you can eat not nice big prawns. On the good side asked for a refund and they agreed.

The food was the worst we’ve ever had and it use to be so good! The fried rice is not fried at all and not seasoned. The fried prawns was so overcooked they were inedible, the king pao chicken had no flavor and is just bland. Very disappointing.
