This restaurant specializes in authentic Vietnamese food. Highly recommend the caramelized catfish in clay pot, combo dish and the shaking beef !

Food was amazing! We got there early when they just opened. The service was great, they were very good at giving us suggestions, they were very attentive when we needed something. Highly recommend! We ordered way too much for our group of 3 adults and 2 children, but the prices were very reasonable.

The food was delicious, got the catfish in clay pot and Vietnamese canh chua tôm (sour shrimp soup). Portion size was decent for two people. I didn’t think the rice (cooked in clay pot) has any different flavor or taste as far as I can tell, but it was a little drier than what I usually had I if cooked with the rice cooker. We went when they first open (5:30pm) for dinner time so we had the restaurant to ourselves. Overall I highly recommend this place.

This place was amazing!! Authentic food, great service and reasonable prices. We ordered the clay pot pork belly and cat fish, and the salted fish fried rice. We also got the egg cream coffee and everything was delicious. We will 100% be coming back here we loved it!!!!

It was driving to this location, hoping to dive in at "two bowls" but they were closed. It has been a year since I'm back in the area, but to my surprise, it is a completely new restaurant now. We gave it a shot, and it's a pleasant encounter. The restaurant is family/ group dine in style. It's only me and my husband but we can feel the vibe. We had "canh chua ca" & " ca kho to" with stir fried vegetables. It was awesome! The cooking style is more like southern Viet style. There are a lot of staples Viet family dishes. Staffs was super friendly and helpful. There yogurt dessert is great also. Not too pricey compared to other restaurants. Will be back for more dishes.

Went to the grand opening with my husband and parents-in-law and ordered the bun dau mam tom. The tofu was crispy, the noodles were nice, and the sauce was good. It was a bit busy because of the grand opening, but we still got a cozy spot. The staff checked on us a few times, which was nice. The vibe of the place felt inviting and relaxed. With how our first visit went, we're definitely planning to return and try more dishes.

Everything was tasty! The canh chua was spot on with the sweet and sour flavors. My first experience with bun dau mam wasn’t so great, so I was hesitant to try. I’m glad I gave it a second chance because it was delicious. I will need to come back and try other dishes

I heard about this place from my friend and I had to try it. The food is absolutely 10/10. It reminded me of my mom’s home cooking back in Vietnam. I ordered the thịt tôm kho, mì xào bò, and the rau muống xào tỏi. I really like the service that was provided. I’m planning to be back very soon with the extended family. The decor, music, and atmosphere of the restaurant was so warm and felt very cozy.

I recently visited this Vietnamese restaurant and ordered a pot of catfish. It was absolutely delicious! The catfish was cooked to perfection, tender and flavorful, with a well-balanced sweet and savory sauce. When it arrived at my table, the claypot fish was still boiling, adding to the overall experience. Compared to other Asian restaurants, this place truly excels in their cooking, and the sauce-infused rice is incredibly appetizing. This is one of the best Vietnamese dishes I've ever tasted, and I'll definitely be coming back!

You gotta love this place! Run by a charismatic Vietnamese family and served delicious “home cooked” meals. I fell in love with the caramelized catfish clay pot and their home-made panna cotta. Would highly recommend to go all the way to outside Viet town for this place!

I really love the caramelized pork belly in the clay pot. This is my new go-to place for homecooked, authentic Vietnamese cuisine, it offers a few items that other restaurants do not have.

The food here tastes just like how they would in Vietnam. Definitely help with my homesickness. The staffs are very nice and friendly they even give me recommendations for local boba stores! The fact that we came back to this place twice in three days staying at Houston proved how much we love the place. Definitely coming back.

This restaurant is ideal for when you crave a delicious homemade meal but lack the time or energy to prepare it yourself. Our dining experience was truly exceptional, and every bite of our meal was thoroughly enjoyable.

What a great spot for traditional Vietnamese dishes! My family came here for lunch and we were very impressed with how the food is seasoned. The sweet, sour, salty tastes were well controlled and balance compared to other restaurant who specializes in family meals style. Ca Kho, thit kho, canh chua are the ones that is the hardest to cook since each and every diner have their own opinion on what they considered" best" or how they eat at home is totally different than what other's definition of "good" . In my opinion, this place, by FAR is the BEST Vietnamese family meal style on Bellaire at this moment. Everything is well cooked, presentation, and great taste. This reminds me of alot of good restaurants in Vietnam. Staff is attentive and provide great service. They're well deserved for good tip! Also, excellent choice on smooth jazz music for a relaxing ambiance. Keep up the good work since I will come back for more!

The sweet and sour soup with the clay pot caramelized catfish was delicious! It tastes just like momma used to make! However, the service could use a little improvement. We got our order before our bowls and plates. We had to remind them, and the place wasn't packed. I would definitely eat here again!

M

So delicious! After eating in, we decided to order a ton more food to take home. Our favorites being the sour soup, the pickled cabbage soup, and pickled cabbage pork belly.

I knew the moment I walked into Cơm Niêu, I was in for a treat. I came here a while back for lunch with friends and I’m just getting around to writing a review. Let me advise and give a word to the wise. If you want authentic Vietnamese comfort food, this is the place to be! Walking in the place was packed and buzzing with energy at lunchtime on a Friday. That is already a great sign. The staff was very attentive and friendly, showing us to a table very quick despite the crowd and full tables. I could just smell the authenticity rolling off of the food here in waves and my mouth was watering looking at the menu and other tables. Never one to stick with only one dish, I was ecstatic to see the variety of the menu and some dishes I had not previously seen at other Vietnamese restaurants that I’ve been to so far. Let’s get to the food. First thing up was a couple of drinks. Cà Phê Trứng and Cà Phê Muối. Both drinks did not disappoint. The Cà Phê Trứng was great. The strong robusta coffee combined with the condensed milk and whisked egg yolk, had a custard like flavor with a frothy consistency. The Cà Phê Muối was also very good. The salty, frothy foam on top of the strong coffee reminded me of salted caramel a bit but with stronger coffee flavor. When the first dish came out, I was amazed at the bright purple color of the Canh Khoai Mở. The purple yam in the creamy , succulent soup was subtle yet glorious. The shrimp added a filling protein to the soup. I absolutely loved this soup and I will definitely be added to my rotation of Vietnamese dishes. The Bún Đậu Mắm Tôm combo was excellent. The fried tofu and vermicelli were very filling. The egg rolls were very tasty and the pork intestines reminded me of tripas I ate growing up. All of these wrapped up in bánh tráng with veggies and herbs and dipped in mắm tôm (shrimp paste) was incredible. Pro tip for those new to mắm tôm. It can be incredibly potent and pungent if you haven’t eaten it before. I have had it several times and I dove in head first and fortunately, I loved its layered salty and intense flavor. You can add lime or chilies to modify it to your palette and Zi heard you can add sugar as well but I haven’t tried that yet. Last but not least, the Mắm Chưng (Vietnamese Meatloaf) was a revelation. I felt like Aladdin, in a “whooole new world”, because this isn’t your mom’s meatloaf. Well, unless your mom is Vietnamese and in that case you’re very lucky to have had this dish growing up. I can’t describe the simplicity and complexity all in one dish. I’m not going to claim to know every ingredient but it has fermented fish, egg, onion and I believe ground pork. I was too busy chowing down to figure out every ingredient but trust me this is incredible and super filling. Eaten with rice and cucumbers, this is a balanced meal. Cơm Niêu was a pleasant and dulcet journey through the marvelous Vietnamese undone and culture. I will return without a doubt to try more amazing food.

Com Nieu Houston is a Vietnamese restaurant located on Bellaire Blvd in Houston, and they specialize Vietnamese comfort foods, such as caramelized fish (cá kho), sweet and sour coup (canh chua), and more. Canh chua and cá kho go together like peanut butter and jelly, and they are both delicious here. I have been here multiples times and have tried a few different things: 1. Large Ca Khờ Catfish The large could feed about 2-4 people. I also got the medium size once, and I believe it feeds 1-2 people. I think the cá kho is amazing and reminds me of my mom's. It is hot when it comes out, and the catfish tastes fresh. The caramelization is also not too sweet and is just right, pairing perfectly with the canh chua. 2. Canh Chua Tôm This was another one of my favorites, and I think the medium size is huge! It comes with a portable heater and is kept warm throughout the meal, and I think it can definitely feed four people, if not more. There are tomatoes, bean sprouts, okra, pineapples, and elephant ear stalks. The soup is a perfect blend of sweet and sour and warms you from the inside out. 3. Bap Xao I think the corn was okay and did not really stand out to me. It felt like it was missing something. 4. Cơm Niêu The rice was perfectly sized for one person, and I personally really liked it! It was crispy around the edges providing a nice texture, and the rice in the middle were soft. 5. Thịt Ba Chỉ Kho Tổ For their caramelized pork, their portions are pretty big too (enough for about 3-4 people), and I ate this with the canh khoai mở. I think the pork paired well with the soup, but the pork was a bit too sweet for me. 6. Canh Khoai Mở The purple yam soup went well with the caramelized pork and was also nicely portioned for 3-4 people, as well. The interior is also very cute but quite small. It gets really busy on the weekends and some items might be sold out. Service may be a bit lacking but you get a disount if you pay with cash! Overall, this has become one of my favorite Vietnamese restaurants for comfort foods! It brings a very nostalgic feel. I definitely visit this place every now and then when I miss my mom’s cooking, and it definitely helps the cravings!

Loved this place! The space is fairly small. The service was friendly but a bit slow. We ordered 3 clay pot dishes and they were all delicious! The Bo luc lac, canh chua, and green beans were also really yummy! The only disappointing dish was the roasted pork belly. It was really overcooked and extremely hard and dry. We couldn't even eat it. Parking was easy. Will definitely come back again and highly recommend!

The food is so authentic here! Once I know they have cơm niêu, I gotta take my mom here to try. It’s so crunchy in the bottom, and tastes so good with cá kho! My favorite is Bún đậu mắm tôm! I have never tried anyone other places because I’m afraid of the smell of mắm tôm. But here, they made it perfectly! Their chả cốm is phenomenal!! My husband tried their Cơm gà and it was very well seasoned + the chicken qua so juicy. We also got a new dish called Chả Đùm Trứng Muối. The portion was big and tasty. Was not sure how we supposed to eat it, but the Chả đùm taste really good with bánh phồng tôm and dưa muối! Love their tắc xí muội and taiwan tofu as well!

One of the newest Vietnamese authentic restaurants in Houston. First impressions was the design and vibe. We came in with family of 4 with kids. The staffs greeted us with smile and took us to our table. One of few places show the menu with clear and delicious pictures. They easy to read and order on spot. The waiter doesn't take note but remember all our orders. The fish clay pot must have. The food was good and authentic. Big portion. The price but higher as expected due to prime location and current inflation. We liked our time here and good service. Big shout to Tuan the manager and his staffs to provide a good and friendly services. See the pictures. Worth a thousand words. Highly recommend for any VN food lovers and visitor. 👍

Great food, the sweet and sour food was great (make sure to wait for it to get to temp under the burner), the claypot catfish was carmalized savoriness with a black pepper bite and the mango salad that came with the fried pomfret was refreshing and fresh. Will be back

Claypot everything! Loved claypot pork belly and catfish!!! So moist and juicy! The flavors are so rich and delicious! They carefully crafted every Meal so well! I highly recommend it! The food is absolutely amazing! I went there on a friend’s recommendation and visited around 4 PM, which was a quiet time—perfect for enjoying the meal and receiving the full attention of the server. Everything we ordered was delicious. The egg rolls and the taro dish were unbelievably good, and the vegetables were fresh and flavorful. We loved every single dish we tried. This is a 10/10 Vietnamese restaurant that I proudly recommend!

I went to Cơm Niêu restaurant in Houston, TX, for a late lunch. It is a small restaurant, but the atmosphere is nice. I ordered a pot of rice (cơm niêu) cooked in a clay pot with catfish sweet and sour soup. I really liked their crispy cơm riêu because it was so crispy and crunchy. Their catfish sweet and sour soup was delicious. The server was very nice. I will definitely come back in the future. Our first time trying out this restaurant and we’re glad we did. We came right at opening time and were the first table they had. Not even 15 minutes in, the place was packed and people were waiting outside the door. We came for the popular sour fish soup (canh chua) and the carmelized catfish (cá kho tộ). Both were delicious! The other dishes were also good. The servers were very quick and friendly. However, we were a little disappointed that they didn’t have any of the clay pot rice (cơm niêu) cooked and ready for service. After all, the restaurant is named after that one dish.

The nolstalgia hit real hard when I take a bite. Their pickled mustard green soup brought me straight back to my childhood by my grandma and mom. Visiting from southern California and this place felt like home. Small local restaurant with great food and prices. The catfish was so flavorful and came with a big portion of rice! The medium is about two pieces of catfish. We also got an order of the bot chien, which is like fried flour/rice cake with egg? It was delicious and I loved the pickled veggies and sauces. Highly recommend if you're in the area and want catfish!

This restaurant is now the level of customer service I compare all restaurants to! We had dinner here for the first time in February and ordered the Tôm Chiên Hoàng Bào and it came with rice paper. We have never used rice paper so needless to say we looked like a bunch of rookies haha. The staff saw us struggling and came over to give us a hands on lesson on how to use the rice paper! He put gloves on and gave us a full 5 minute introductory lesson without even being asked. I was so impressed and grateful customer service 10/10! The food also a 10/10 the wrapped shrimp is my favorite dish and to be honest it's so much food it's an entire meal on its own. The flan and all of the house made drinks coffee /teas and amazing. This restaurant is definitely on my top 10 list of 2025 restaurants

Andddd, this is one of the best places for a traditional Vietnamese meal where you eat family style and share everything. This place had wonderful service, and the flavors of the food were authentic, just like how my mom makes it. We ordered the Vietnamese hot and sour soup with shrimp (Canh chua), water spinach with garlic (rau muon), fish Claypot (ca kho), and a fried pancake (banh bot chien). I also ordered an iced black coffee. Flavors were ver authentic. I recommend the soup and the fish for sure. All the dishes have a big portion so make sure you bring your leftovers home! Thank you for being so kind and helping us during our long lunch!

Hands down one of the best authentic vietnamese restaurants I've been to! It's a small, cute, family owned business! We were seated quickly and waited on quickly. They give you a glass pitcher of water, which is fantastic. We started off with Moms egg rolls, and these must've been some of the best vietnamese egg rolls I've had at a restaurant!! Had the perfect crisp, great flavor, filling, and the side dipping sauces were great. Our main dishes, we shared, since it was enough for 2 people. We had the Thit Ba Chi Kho To, the caramelized pork belly in claypot, and the Tôm Rim To, the caramelized shrimp in claypot Both had such great flavor, the shrimp was a bit overcooked, BUT I'd still rate it a 5/5 because it had such great seasoning! We had a side of steamed rice and tried the rice in claypot, which was interesting. Idk if I'd get that again since rice was a bit harder and crunchier to my liking, but it's still good. We had to get a veggie, so we tried the stir fried water spinach with garlic, and it was really tasteful. Everything we ate, 10/10. In the end, a lady, I'm guessing the owner, came to our table and asked how I liked everything and she was so nice! She was sitting in front of us, at a table, hand making the egg rolls, so that was also pretty cool to see. I can't wait to go back! 10/10 recommend.

The Vietnamese family-style cuisine here is genuinely enjoyable. The dishes have a fresh, vibrant quality that reflects traditional Vietnamese flavors. The salad is a great way to start the meal, with crisp vegetables and a tangy dressing. The Hawaiian fruit tea is a pleasant surprise, offering a nice balance to the food. The clay pot fish and pork ribs are cooked just right, with tender meat and flavorful sauces. The new fried shrimp dish is a nice addition to the menu, with well-seasoned shrimp that stand out. Every visit has been consistently good, and the traditional dishes have a comforting, homemade feel. The service is attentive, and the owner Bao and his family are very nice, making sure that everything is just right. Having been here three times already, I’m looking forward to coming back again.

Nice little strip center spot for quality Vietnamese clay pot dishes and above average soups. Friendly and helpful service and prompt readiness of orders for a 9-person table. Subdued holiday ambience with Christmas music and themed screen saver on the mounted television. The dishes were very well prepared and my winter melon soup with baby pork rib had ample amounts of rib and melon. I opted to pair this with the clay pot rice and a salted cream coffee. The clay pot rice was well done with crispy top and bottom, but was a bit underwhelming. I would likely not get it again and just go with the steamed rice that comes with the dishes. The coffee was excellent and judging by the amount of orders we saw for other diners seems to be a consistently popular drink of choice. My fellow lunchmates imbibed on the catfish and pork belly clay pots and samolings of these were well above average for each dish. Parking can be challenging if you arrive later but he 11:30-12PM window seemed to afford enough options. I can imagine it being more problematic on weekends given the size of the lot. I would return to sample some other dishes, but felt the bill could be $5 or so less based on what was ordered. That seems to be the way of the world now though.

I was planning to make cá kho tộ and canh chua for dinner for my MIL’s birthday but got too busy so we decided to go out for it instead. We arrived at about 7pm on a Friday night. I did call ahead and made a reservation since we had a party of 8. Food - we ordered canh chua - very good but not enough veggies in it, cá kho - very good, rau muống xào toi- very good, bột chiên trứng- meh, assorted fried fish balls and stuff - least favorite dish, tofu - ok. Steamed rice was on the drier side. Water - water cups were the little styrofoam cups with 2 carafes of water that didn’t get refilled very often. Service - they were nice but not super attentive. We will come here again

My coworkers and I grabbed lunch here and had a very positive experience overall. The service was a real standout - the staff were attentive, professional and friendly. The food itself was very good. I particularly enjoyed the catfish - it was flavorful and cooked perfectly. The soup was also delicious, and my coffee was exactly what I needed for a Friday afternoon- strong and milky, and just sweet enough.

The atmosphere and service is warm and inviting. Some of the dish like goi ga (chicken salad), dau que sao bo (stir fried string bean with beef) or canh chu (sweet sour soup) is good. They may have over done on the salt on the suon heo kho, but fish was was good. It is a good place to eat traditional viet food with not a lot loud voices.

Food quality was amazing. Price was decent. I bet little more attention to detail on service will make it so much better. I had chipped pot. I had to ask for water and the dish wasn't clean

Small but cozy spot in Houston. The crispy clay pot rice was amazing, and the catfish sweet and sour soup was full of flavor. Friendly service and a place I’d definitely come back to. Highly recommend if you love com nieu!

Came for lunch and it started pouring rain as soon as we got to the parking lot. Even with the rain the place was pretty busy but we got a table right away. We ordered several dishes from the menu including appetizers and main dishes. The items came out when it gets done so main dishes came out before our appetizers came out. That's ok, we ate whatever came out. Food was good, tasty, not as flavorful as I would've liked, and portions were not as big as other places. I like the eggrolls. They are made with rice paper and was fried perfectly to the perfect crunchiness without being burnt. Hard to do with rice paper.

Heard about Com Nieu Houston for a while and finally had a chance to visit. The first impression was a spacious, clean restaurant with simple yet impressive decor. The menu includes family-style dishes along with street food items like fried rice cakes and eggs, stir-fried corn, and noodle with fried tofu & shrimp paste. The flavors are well-balanced and the presentation is beautiful. The staff recommended trying the fruit tea, which was indeed excellent and refreshing. There are still many dishes I haven't tried yet, so I will definitely come back when I get the chance.

The tomato tofu with pork at Com Nieu Houston is a comforting standout that elevates a classic Vietnamese dish. Silky tofu and tender, well-seasoned pork are simmered in a vibrant tomato sauce that strikes a perfect balance of tangy, savory, and slightly sweet flavors. The pork adds a satisfying depth, infusing the dish with richness while the tofu soaks up the bright, herbaceous notes. It’s a hearty yet approachable dish that pairs beautifully with rice and feels like a warm hug on a plate. The clay pot fish (Ca Kho To) remains a showstopper. The catfish is braised in a clay pot until melt-in-your-mouth tender, swimming in a caramelized sauce that’s equal parts savory and sweet with a peppery kick. It’s an unforgettable dish that demands a second helping. The rau muong (stir-fried morning glory) is the perfect counterpoint. Crisp, garlicky, and vibrant, these greens are stir-fried just right to retain their crunch and natural sweetness, cutting through the richer flavors of the meal with ease. Served at the cozy 13080 Bellaire Blvd location, these dishes highlight Com Nieu’s commitment to authentic Vietnamese flavors with fresh ingredients and soulful execution. The tomato tofu with pork, alongside the clay pot fish and rau muong, makes for a trio that’s hard to beat. A must-try for anyone craving a taste of Vietnam in Houston!

A hidden gem - well, at least for me. This place was recommended by a friend, and upon arriving to the place, I knew I was in the right place when I saw that the place was PACKED. Luckily, there was an empty table. I ordered the pork belly and stir-fried beef and rice and my palate was very pleased with that selection. The pork belly was RICH in flavor, and when placed over rice, it was a delectable experience. The beef was seasoned just right and the flavors exploded in my mouth. Overall, I would say that I will definitely be coming back to explore the rest of their menu.

Came here for some Vietnamese food and I wasn't impressed. The place is very small and It's hard to find a parking spot. I ordered "Bun dau mam tom" combo and it was good but my son's "Hoi An Chicken rice" was terrible. The chicken tasted like it just came out of a microwave and the fish sauce was not good. I ended up sharing my food with him. Other dishes look pretty good though. I don't mind giving them another try but they really need to improve their service. They're understaffed and the food took a long time to come out. They don't smile and they don't talk...the guy just dropped food on the table without saying a word...lol

🌟The place is very dirty with a strong bleach smell as soon as you walk in. Tables and chairs are sticky, trash on the floor, and staff just chatting instead of cleaning. Food is only average and nothing like the ads. If the dining area is this dirty, I can’t imagine how the kitchen looks.

We visited this place expecting clay pot dishes and bun dau man tom, but I advise against coming here. You'll regret paying high prices for subpar food. They must be selling leftover pork and fish; it tastes very tough, especially the pork, and it has a bad smell.

I usually hate to place bad reviews on family owned restaurants like Clay Pot Kitchen, but sadly they really left me no choice. My dad and I visited from out of state, and heard about how authentic & good this restaurant was from TikTok & Instagram; so, we decided to give it a try. Decorum was average, just your typical Viet restaurant. However, service was horrible. The whole time we felt like we were unwanted and were being rushed to leave. The lady who served us gave us an attitude while placing our order. For our drinks, we just got hot tea ($2.00). For the food, we had their popular “Ca Bong Lau Kho To” with Rice ($19.95) as the entree & their “Bap Nep Xao Bo” ($12.95) as an appetizer. Here’s where the real problem starts. The “Ca Bong Lau Kho To” with Rice, which is basically caramelized catfish served in a clay pot, was very mushy and tasted old. This dish is usually supposed to have a hard like texture that exemplifies its freshness; the mushiness showed that the dish was not made fresh. My dad and I assumed that the catfish was already frozen. Because of this, my dad and I had food poisoning right after we left. The “Bap Nep Xao Bo”, which is basically grilled and buttered corn, was not worth it for the price. The portion was small and had no speciality to it at all. Also, for our hot tea, they gave it to us in a water vase instead of an actual tea kettle. Mind you, HOT tea. How could we pour the hot tea with the vase when there’s no handle to the vase? It’s like they want us to burn our hands while doing it. Not to mention, they served it to us in styrofoam cups. The ambiance also felt kind of toxic because we saw the employees arguing with each other, so that made us very uncomfortable. To say we were disappointed is a huge understatement. Eating at this restaurant made me realize that I can’t trust social media presentations of restaurants from TikTok & Instagram too much. I will never forget eating here (in a bad way).
