This was my first time here and it was Valentines Day. We had mad reservations but showed up early and was seated immediately (yes we cancelled the reservation). They have several seating areas but it doesn’t seem over crowded at all. We ordered drinks and do yourself a favor and order the drink with the hibiscus!! It’s delicious. Next was appetizer we had seen a picture of a sampler but it was not on the menu and our server inquired and YES we were able to order the sampler platter (vegan tacos, one oxtail empanada and one plantain empanada, taquitos and one other thing but the name slips my mind and mole sauce. The entire platter was fantastic. Full of flavor and and just the right size bite. Also did an order and chips, salsa and guac. We shared an entree because frankly the sample platter was a meal in and out itself. We ordered the pescado (red fish) on half shell. My goodness it was so juicy! It was light fresh and Smokey. Combined with the rice and beans was chefs kiss! It also came with four corn tortillas so boom you can make your own fish taco if you like. This place is great. Service was amazeballs and they have valet and the price is your choice (tip..we did $10) also the overall bill was not to expensive as well. All and all you will not go wrong if you choose to dine here.
Came for a friend's bday dinner. As a non-meat eater , I love that right at the door they asked if anyone in the group needed a vegetarian menu. The options they offer are delicious and glad I didn't felt left out. I had a chile relleno that as a Mexican I will say, flavor was AUTHENTIC. Even for desserts they offer a vegan chocolate cake which I skipped but would be back to try it ♡ Alcoholic drinks were yummy & all the staff we encountered was nicely attentive even if it was a full Saturday night.
Brunch at Hugo's was a delightful experience from start to finish. The food exceptional, the staff attentive, and the ambiance was perfect for a brisk Houston Sunday. The Band was no less then Perfect. As that is the main reason for my continued experience. As I am an avid Hugo's permanent guest. This is the first time I write a review in the 18 years I have been coming. Thank you For a wonderful 18 years.
The carnitas were incredibly delicious, I loved the charred onion and cilantro served with it. I ate the salsa it came with and it was so good and I never eat salsa because it isn’t my thing. I also loved the pico de gallo. The corn tortillas were better than I’ve ever had in my life, it was shocking because I never really liked corn tortillas but these were so good. The churros rellenos might be the best dessert I’ve ever had in my life. The churros were hot and the ice cream was delicious. There was chocolate on the plate too. I really loved the hot chocolate too. Everything about it was perfect. We were also asked if we wanted another churro since it only comes with 3 and we were sharing it. That was a great call. The churros were well worth the money, definitely end your meal with them.
Love this place. The food is so good here. They switch up the menu occasionally but I've never had a dish I didn't enjoy. I usually go for a stuffed poblano. Their drinks are always well made. I recommend the carajillo for after the meal. The staff is always friendly and readily recommend things if you ask. The atmosphere is comfortable, a little fancy but if you're not they don't judge...I don't recommend workout wear though. They do valet parking...I usually park in the surrounding neighborhood.
The service was excellent and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. I ordered the Mariscos al Ajillo, and it was absolutely 10/10 perfectly cooked, incredibly flavorful, and beautifully presented. You can really taste the quality and freshness of the seafood. Definitely one of the best dishes I’ve had in Houston. I highly recommend this place and will definitely be coming back!
This is not your typical tex-mex place. It is a high end classy restaurants that has a totally different flair about it. Ambiance is inviting and relaxing. High value food dishes are prepared with care perfectly seasoned and artfully presented. Service is prompt, attentive but not pressing. Out water glasses never got more than half empty. If you are looking for elevated food and overall dining experience, this place is for you.
Absolutely nothing like this anywhere else. Best food and service I’ve ever had at a restaurant, period. This is not your little Tex Mex enchilada joint, and the disparity between that and this is somehow worlds apart with some of the same flavors and dishes. Every single dish sung. A new note, a fresh harmony alongside the last one and the next. Servers were kind enough to take our photos not once but twice (when the first ones were determined to not have good enough lighting lol). Can’t speak highly enough about the team here. They’re doing a great job. All the awards and press are certainly well deserved. Every plate was dang near licked clean.
Amazing breakfast buffet. Chicken chilaquiles and sirloin were phenomenal for the main, and the dessert table was to die for. The hot chocolate was delicious, and the cheese flan, mini alfajores, and tres leches made me so absurdly happy. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a special occasion meal or just a fun brunch.
What a great experience at Hugo’s Sunday brunch buffet! Staff was on point, caring for us and the food was off the chain. Everything is perfectly seasoned and although it’s a buffet, it is beautifully presented and each entree is labeled and described. I wish I had thought of taking pictures of my food selections! I was too excited to eat. Believe me, everything was delicious. You won’t go wrong going to Hugo’s. They have the convenience of free valet (you pay tip if you want) and those guys are very friendly. They also had a trio of guys playing live on the balcony which was great! The music was beautiful - nice Spanish melodies. Our waitress stayed on top of our needs and the host up front was great too. Overall an excellent experience at Hugo’s,
Hugo’s has been around many years and always had a great reputation, but I had never been. That changed in my resent visit to Houston. I stopped in for a mid week lunch. Very nice inside with a lot of seating. You immediately can tell it’s a more high end Mexican food experience. I had no wait but I hear especially for Sunday brunch you better have a reservation. I did the special they run on Thursday and Friday. It’s the two for $30. I chose the Empanadas De Colita De Res and the Lechon. Empanadas has a ton of flavor and come with a cilantro aioli for dipping. It’s has some spice. There is also a mango/fruity dabs of sauce that was my favorite part. I need more of that. The lechon comes with tortillas, pico, cilantro and habanero sauce. The idea is to make your own tacos. Portion is for 4 smaller tacos. The salsa is spicy. The lechon served in a banana leaf was very tender and tasty. My service was good. The only small complaint about my experience is parking. You have to valet or try to find something in the surrounding neighborhoods. Not much to choose from and I could imagine during busy times it could be an issue. Overall, great food and upscale Mexican food experience. I highly recommend.
I came to Houston for a quick overnight visit and googled best restaurants near me and found Hugos. I was blown away. The food was incredible, the tequila high quality and diverse and the service smart and professional. I had the ceviche which was bright, fresh, and tasty. Nextvi had the Lechon, the suckling pig, which was tender, juicy and just a bit spicy. Next I had the duck, which quite literally melted in my mouth. The mole cornbread, greens and sweet potato puree were the perfect accompaniment to a crispy dilute with a ln amazing mole sauce. Add all this to the four great tequilas and I don't think I could have had a better meal. A+++ recommended.
Hugo’s is the kind of spot that makes you want to linger, order one more round, and say yes to dessert (even if you swear you’re full). First things first: get a margarita. Salt rim, lots of ice, and suddenly your day’s already better. Let’s talk food, because wow: • Carnitas: This is why I keep coming back. Crispy, juicy, loaded with flavor, and you get to build your perfect taco with all the fresh toppings. Pure happiness. • Pulpo (Octopus): Charred just right, a little smoky, tender, and definitely not rubbery. (Zero regrets.) • Ceviche & Hamachi Crudo: Bright, fresh, and a little bit fancy. Love a starter that feels like summer on a plate. • Lobster Taco: Am I too extra? Maybe. But a blue corn tortilla, lobster, avocado—come on, that’s just joy. • Tortilla Soup: Mexican comfort in a bowl. Creamy, tomato-y, with crunchy strips and avocado. Basically a hug for your soul. • Grilled Cauliflower & Flor de Calabaza Quesadilla: You think you’re ordering veggies for balance, but then you realize these are actually delicious on their own. • Ribeye with mole: Smoky, tender steak with a mole so good I would eat it with a spoon. Seafood rice & fish: Both solid, but let’s be honest, I was busy making tacos and eating carnitas. Dessert: Flan was all mine. Creamy, smooth, not too sweet—total win. If you’re a chocolate person, the mousse is rich and dreamy. (Pro tip: don’t share.) The vibe: Lively, colorful, feels like you should be celebrating something—even if it’s just a Tuesday.
Hugo's is always a good safe bet. Food is great, staff is friendly, always a good experience. Every now and then they have a special menu. This month they have squash blossoms menu. They have a good selection of tequilas and mezcales. The quesadillas were great! The mezcal flight was great.
My wife and I visited on a Sunday for brunch. We arrived around 11 am. I would recommend setting a reservation if you aren't coming around opening hours. This place gets packed fast! The food was soo good! Open bar, buffet style, live entertainment, and the service was amazing! My water glass never got empty. As we ate and went back to the buffet line to replenish our plates we returned to find our napkins neatly folded and our table had been cleaned and cleared. Awesome service! 👏🏾 I noticed a lot of the visitors parked in the neighborhood next to the restaurant. Valet is available ; it is tip only valet. If you enjoy Mexican food you will love this place. From the homemade corn tortilla, tamales, enchilada, and salsa's! 🤌🏾 FLAVORFUL! This was my first time visiting but it will definitely not be the last!
Food was beautiful, delectable, and well thought out. Great quality. The portions were perfect. Our server (we sat with the far booth/ chair mixture on the opposite sides next to the aforementioned picture). Our server (26DEC24 around 5/530pm) was phenomenal - I forgot her name. Attentive, very much attention to detail, and great service - but not over doing it like 99% of servers nowadays. In return got a great tip, for exceptional service - I hope she gets a shoutout from the owners…10/10 would recommend this establishment!
Everything! Food drinks service! Especially Sunday Brunch! I would definitely recommend this restaurant. It is a must whenever I visit Houston

This review is purely for the wonderful bar staff and the decadent Palomitas de Guyaba mocktail. YUM! We'll be back for dinner sometime. The food looked good, but pricey.

I like so many things about this place, but the main thing is they take chances and add some interesting specials every day. Love anything seafood, tried the fish, so flavorful, and the guacamole was really good. Salsa was okay, chips were a little thick for my liking, ceviche was good. Fish tacos my friend ordered were inhaled. All and all a nice restaurant at any time of day. Would love to hit the happy hour.
Went for the brunch and it was excellent. So many choices and each cooked exquisitely. The meats tender and flavorful (not much of a vegetable person but they looked good). The desserts were plentiful but the peach pie, for me, made everything else disappear. The crust was flaky, the peaches and blueberry with the saucy nectar was excellent. The banana pudding was another good choice along with the powdered cookies, but the peach pie was it. Went with a group of friends so be prepared for one person to cover the check, they don't split the receipt or so we were informed. Overall would definitely do the brunch again, it was an enjoyable meal.

Given Hugo’s reputation as one of Houston’s best fine-dining Mexican restaurants, our experience was genuinely surprising—and not in a good way. From the moment we walked in, the service felt cold and dismissive. The person who brought our water didn’t acknowledge us at all—no eye contact, no response when I said thank you. It set an uncomfortable tone right away. Our server was equally unhelpful. When we asked questions about the menu, the answers were vague and incomplete. We were explicitly told that our plates did not come with sides, only for them to arrive with sides. On top of that, the server only checked on our table about three times during the entire meal, which is hard to excuse at a restaurant that presents itself as fine dining. The food itself was another letdown —dry, underseasoned, and lacking the depth of flavor you’d expect from a restaurant at this price point and prestige. Unfortunately, it also left my stomach feeling unsettled afterward. I wanted to love Hugo’s, especially given how highly it’s regarded in Houston, but between the rude service, lack of attention, and disappointing food, the experience simply didn’t live up to the hype. For a restaurant of this caliber, I expected much better.
