Opinions de Lao Sze Chuan Houston
I’ve ordered the General Tso’s Chicken from Lao Sze Chuan several times now and it’s always solid. The flavor is great, the portion size is generous, and for the price it feels like really good value. The staff are friendly and the quality has been very consistent every time I’ve ordered. Definitely one of my go-to spots when I’m craving takeout.
I came for lunch and had the boiled fish lunch special with hot&sour soup. ABSOLUTELY EXCELLENT!!! The "lunch special" menu is quite extensive. My friend had the two pepper chicken and loved it. Great service and good ice tea. I will definitely be back!
Nice place to bring friends and family for Chinese and Szechuan cuisine. Very friendly staff. They will recommend the best options. Try the Spicy Crunchy Tofu, the Wood Ear Mushroom, or the Spicy Peanut Cucumber Salad.
Love going to Lao Sze Chuan for lunch. Their plates are a good price with soup and an egg roll for under $15.00! I always have left overs.
This place was really mellow & chill, the band that was playing was absolutely superb! My wife wanted to get up and just dance to the music. Awesome night, awesome atmosphere. We will be back. Thank you!
Lao Sze Chuan has delicious food served in a clean and trendy establishment. They have a wide ranging menu with fair prices. The pork soup dumplings were great with a perfectly steamed outside to piping hot flavorful broth on the inside. The sesame chicken had a nice sweet and spicy flavor and I felt it was not over breaded. The staff was very nice and helpful as well
Very clean, great atmosphere, delicious food. This is our new favorite Chinese restaurant we will eat at from now on. My wife had Chicken with mixed vegetables, I had General Cho Chicken. We shared pork soup dumplings that were excellent. The steamed rice is perfect and tasty. Lunch goes to 3 pm. They are very nice and a newly opened restaurant that has amazing tasty food, full bar, and is very close to the Medical area downtown Houston. I will continue to add new pictures when we try different food here. Wow, the Sze Chuan Shrimp is the best that i have tasted in years. Fried Shrimp. Please come and enjoy as we did.
Really delicious! The grilled fish is fresh. Cryspy skin and soft meat. The salt and pepper prawns are so big! I recommend their home made sesame balls with salted egg yolks. A special sweet soft taste.
Wonderful food!! It’s very very similar to what I had in China. This place probably just became my favorite restaurant. Apologies for the photos, we started digging in immediately and I also forgot to take a photo of the soup dumplings because I was loving everything.
My favorite local mom & pop chinese restaurant. I always get Chef Tony's favorite chicken - it's crispy chicken cubes that's both sweet and spicy - very addictive. Service is attentive and the woman who runs it is very sweet and kind.
My wife and I stopped in to try their Chinese food and I must say it was 5 star worthy and so far has been the best I have had in Houston!!! Thank you so very much and Krystal was a phenomenal waitress!!! As you can see the food was gone lol!
A great new addition to the neighborhood. Good, authentic szechuan food, and perhaps the best location of the local franchise. Fast and friendly service, as well as a clean and modern atmosphere. The smoked black tea duck was a must-try and did not disappoint! It reminded me of peking duck, but with smoky flavor and steam buns instead of pancakes. We will be back!
Went on my lunch break. The lunch menu is very reasonably priced for the area. I got the General Tso's chicken, had good flavor, the egg roll was great, and the rice was cooked properly. Portion was just right, not too much or too little. The restaurant was very clean and had a calm atmosphere.

A must try!! Stopped in on a cold day and was immediately served hot jasmine tea to warm us up. Ordered the Dried Chili Chicken, Szechuan Wonton and Pork Fried Rice. The flavor was wonderful and we thoroughly enjoyed our time here.
I stopped by Lao Sze Chuan, and the whole vibe was already on point, but Martin at the bar took it over the top. His energy is crazy welcoming, and the drinks he puts together are too smooth. You can tell he knows his craft — balanced pours, great recommendations, and a personality that makes the whole experience feel elevated. The food options are vast and everything I've tried was spectacular. With that being said, the bar alone is worth the trip. If you pull up, make sure you ask for Martin — dude is the reason I’ll be back.
Ordered from here and they sent no sauces. I’m a sauce girl. I need my packets of sodium and red5. Why no napkins? No cutlery was involved. However, food is delicious. I have my own cutlery, right? But, the sauces. I’ll never forgive. I’ll never forget.
Nice restaurant to try the authentic Sichuan cuisine. The Black Tea and Camphor duck is great. It has a unique flavor distinguished itself from the Beijing (Peking) roasted duck or Cantonese roasted duck. I strongly recommend diners not dipping the duck in the sauce nor be wrapped because it is not the traditional way to eat it. The traditional Sichuan way is just to eat the duck by itself. The Lao Sze Chuan twice cooked pork is good. The meat selection is great and well sliced. 火爆腰花 it is a bit spicy, and 木耳 should be sliced to match the formation of the meat. The food was good but a bit overpriced compared to other Sichuan restaurants.
I came here on a Friday afternoon and there was no wait; I was seated down right away. It's very nice inside with modern but authentic decor. I've been going to the location in Bellaire but since that shut down, I stopped by this one instead. The chefs are amazing. I give props to them for the delicious and fresh dishes that I ordered. I got the Mongolian beef, water boiled fish, and the chef special dry chili chicken. Beef with the onions were just perfect with the balanced ratio. Fish was super tender and easy to eat with the spicy szechuan sauce. The dry chili chicken breading was different but the chicken was juicy. Honestly, I will come back for the food. Only complaint I have is the customer service. I don't know if it's just me but even when there was only me and another group in the restaurant, it felt like the staff was non-existent. The waiter did help me with replacing my soup that I didn't like to a different one which I was happy about. Of course, I do have to get the attention of a waiter about 80% of the time. I actually had the same issue with the Bellaire location. If it wasn't for food, I probably would avoid coming back.
Recommended best Szechuan in Montrose. Very good Chinese food and equally good service; friendly staff. Ordered hot and sour soup (one of the best I’ve had), chicken egg roll, chicken with vegetables and dry chili chicken (recommend this dish, loved it!)
They serve very good American Chinese and some authentic Chinese dishes which are quiet good most items are served family stole so the portions are quite large

An average Sichuan restaurant by inside of the loop standard. Non-authentic Sichuan items are executed better than the authentic ones. Overall, food is on the sweeter side.
dec 20-25: pros great wok hai on bok choy, great fish with light breading, egg plant was good... But damn that kung Pao chicken was the worst I've ever tasted - double sweet like nothing else, and even when specified spicy was mild like just panda Express. Just awful. Rating based on how awful a basic and fundamental dish like kung Pao chicken is - the other dishes were 4*.
