We had a breakfast in this restaurant today! The food was super delish, the gentleman serving us was very polite and friendly. Everything was above and beyond! I’d highly recommend this cozy place

delicious authentic texmex food. Loved that there’s also a jukebox where you can select music and play throughout the restaurant

Truly amazing authentic Mexican food! You cannot go wrong with anything from their menu. The Mole is delicious and the street tacos are awesome not to mention the drinks, even their Dr.Pepper is badass.. I have called in our order for pickup and the food has not failed. Our family has become loyal regulars.

This place has been a favorite of mine since the early 90s. Although the area has changed around it greatly, they still serve up the greasiest, gooiest flameado in town. I hope the rich people do not end up buying this place up and replacing it with a nail salon.

Isidra /Isy she was great to us. Very respectful and understanding. This is the customer service ppl need nowadays. Also, our food was amazing. The staff on site /night shift respectful towards everyone not just my table. Definitely coming back!

The spot. I mean like, you are very inebriated and just came from a late night event. This will set you up right in your stomach. Really great near authentic Mexican food, i can attest.

So happy to visit this place after so many years. The food and service are even better than before. In the 1980's the bathrooms were upstairs and the stairway walls were covered in photos of their customers, like they do at The Spanish Village.

It’s always good vibe here. I love this hidden gem. They are open until 4am most days I believe. The food is always good and fresh. The drinks! The drinks are so delicious and strong. Most days they have happy hour. I will definitely be back. I’ve told a lot of my friends and family about this place and about 7-8 of them visited and said they loved it and will return. I like to go here for a good late night meal or when I’m in the mood for some good eats. I’ll be back soon.

Salsa and queso was on point!! Food was reasonably priced and delicious. Stopped with my daughter to grab a quick lunch. It was well worth the trip. This will be our new spot when we visit Houston for sure.

Best little while in the wall Mexican restaurant in the area. It’s open late and has quite the extensive menu for such a small establishment. It’s been around a long time and worth checking out as a tourist and visiting as a local.

Really good drinks. I liked that the waitstaff didn't bombard us constantly. The music was good. I got a little lost looking for the front door but that was part of the fun I guess. Will be returning for sure.

Delicious food, good prices and fast service. Staff is really friendly and attentive. Serving sizes are big for the price. Great experience. Definitely recommend. Alcohol drinks are strong!

Love coming to this place during my lunch break! It’s such a nice hole in the wall with the perfect authentic Mexican food. I almost always order the guacamole salad and it’s very delicious while refreshing. I alternate between the shredded chicken tacos and the enchiladas gringos. The food comes out hot, the wait is never long, and the pricing is perfect! The salsa can be hot at times but it’s not all of the time. I will definitely come back here and tell others about it!

Ordered the burrito Loco it was very good. The best go to Mexican restaurant ever highly recommend.

The best caldo de res! 100% authentic. My husband and I went to go eat caldo in a 100 degree weather! That’s how good it was. And it also comes with corn tortillas which were delicious. I noticed this caldo had chayote which is a squash and is a potent vegetable and rich in antioxidants which helps to kill cancer. The staff was very nice and personable. This restaurant has been open since the 70s! We will definitely come back.

1st of all to Mario Guttierrez who rated 1Star. Why are all the events you described labeled White woman, Black man, Mexican man, white man? Lol this is Houston! I thought we were ALL just "People" here. Anyway I've been patronizing this place since the 80s and although food quality has roller coastered over the years my most recent visit was great. Sometimes the salsa is overspiced making it TOO hot to actually enjoy it but it was full of tomatoes peppers and other ingredients which made it thick and tasty. My heat tolerance is very high since I eat a lot of spicy foods but on that night it was so hot it numbed my taste buds for everything else. Tried the chimichanga and it was super great. So was my waitress that night who checked on me regularly to make sure I had everything I wanted and that I was satisfied with my food.

This is the perfect restaurant-in-an-old-house to have Tex-Mex breakfast or early lunch on a Saturday or Sunday morning. Friendly service, hot coffee, extra tender carne guisada, and two types of salsa to go with chips.

Chicken Flautas were great! Everyone is friendly. Homemade, Fresh food. Burritos are huge. Salsa is nice & spicy. Would definitely recommend.

Food was amazing & service was exceptional! Had a beef fajita chimichanga & my hubs had a burrito. The burrito was bigger than him! Kidding… kind of. The rice & beans were also delicious. The hubs raved about the michelada.

The culinary offerings at this establishment are truly exceptional, tantalizing the palate with a delightful array of flavors that leave a lasting impression. The service provided is nothing short of exemplary, with attentive staff who go above and beyond to ensure a memorable dining experience. Furthermore, the ambiance exudes a warm and inviting charm, fostering a sense of camaraderie among guests and creating the perfect backdrop for laughter and conversation.

This is quickly becoming one of my favorite go to restaurants. My Fidello con Pollo was served hot and soupy in a bowl with tender dark chicken meat, carrots, onion and whole jalapeño served with tortillas, hot sauce and chips. They’re prices are beyond reasonable while most restaurants are raising their prices Chapultepec Lupita’s is giving it away. ❤️

Food is always great. And they are open late. Great spot to stop by after a concert or a show.

Mexican nachos are a must try I did add on lettuce and rice to mine but overall awesome nachos. The service was great. Drinks were refilled without asking. The restrooms are a little weird the women are upstairs the men's you have to go downstairs and they are small. So not really handicap accessible.

J
Josh Hammers

Very Hole in the Wall atmosphere. Had breakfast and the restaurant was empty besides me. Food came out quick and was delicious. The chips are delicious and the salsa has a bit of a kick. The guacamole was smooth and creamy, which was unusual, but good. The Huevos a la Mexicana (with tortillas) was a little under seasoned, but despite that it was still very good. I would definitely recommend this spot.

We needed a place to sit, rest and eat and we certainly found it in Chapultepec Lupita!. Shrimp Po Boy, fries , House Salad. Serving were huge and I've never ain't anything that was this good. Served with a smile! 👍👍... Two Thumps up!

Great place to eat late night. Friendly service, inexpensive, large portions and GOOD! Cannot beat that kind of restaurant. I come often and grab the veggie soup with a side of rice. The bacon nachos are bomb and did I mention, drinks are made delicious here! Cannot go wrong if you stop by here and try the dishes of influenced by Central Mexico!

The perfect hole in the wall. All the locals know and love this place, and for good reason. The food is straightforward, and, honestly, phenomenal. The servers will give you their honest opinions on what is worth eating but frankly it's all good. The table salsa will light you up in the best way, the house margaritas are strong without being offensive; they'll make one of the best micheladas you've ever had. Strongly recommend the mole enchiladas.

genuinely one of the best mexican places i've been to in the greater houston area. the late night hours make this an extremely comforting place to go to after shows in the downtown area. i wish there was a place like this in every city - i get incredibly homesick for chapultepec. please continue to support this business forever.

FRESH! FRESH! FRESH! That word describes everything on the menu! It's a bit of a hole in the wall just north of the medical district. But oh my word was this place good! The salsa brought with the chips tasted like they blended it seconds before delivery. Every ingredient had a flavor like it was plucked from a garden that morning. Wife ordered the Deluxe Breakfast plate, which came with two strips of Fajitas. Beef Fajitas so tender, and so flavorful, I'd swear they were veal. I ordered the Chilaquiles with shredded chicken and sour cream. The chips were the perfect texture for the meal. Not soggy like they were stewed with the chicken for 15min, or crunchy like they were thrown in at the last minute. This dish was prepared by someone who has been making it for decades and knows every thing there is to know to optimize the experience. When the bill came, it wasn't a blow to the bank at all. We both ordered the most expensive items on the menu, two drinks, and the total bill was under $28. If in Houston, by the medical district or museum reach, please find this restaurant and treat yourself to an amazing meal.

I’ve been coming to this place for 20 years. Unpretentious, quick and affordable. The food is really good. The downside is the (sewage-type) of smell at the entrance and the lack of music or tv. It’s very bare bones in that aspect. Still, recommendable.

M
MJ Garza

This restaurant was so good we were just driving by and stopped. So glad we did it was delish and the margaritas on point. It was National Margarita Day, Taco Tuesday and 2/22/22 I was TWOPLEASED 🎉 I'll be back probably for the chips salsa and queso which was my favorite but it really was all good. I'm just a Texas Gal who lives off chips and salsa and they get my vote 😁

What a gem of a late-night spot! The bars may close at 2, but swing by here during the next two hours for some of the heartiest (and cheapest) drunk food in town. Additionally, the staff are incredibly accommodating, and there are many of them on shift even at the latest hours. You can truly tell this is a family-owned business with heart. My friend and I mutually agreed *this* is where going every time we're hungry after the bars! If you're getting bored eating at the same taco truck over and over during your Montrose bar hop, swing by here; you will not be disappointed and will probably save a few bucks, too.

J

Really good food!!! Came in here for a late snack and was pleasantly surprised at their extensive margarita/drink menu and their food was so delicious! Torta loca was 🤤 perfection! The fajitas smelled great too this place is good for some authentic Mexican food all times of the day! So glad we found this place!

First I would like to say I walked in and noticed the amazing smell of fresh coffee; almost as if I were in a 5-star hotel and the temp of the restaurant was perfect!!! I had to get the coffee. Looks driving up may be decieving but nice old-age look inside! It felt right at home. Salsa is homemade and has a large kick if you scoop too much. But, just like grandma made as a kid, perfect spicy. I don't like spicy salsa but this has the perfect home taste. The waitress Caitlin was amazing and very respectful. If it's your first visit like mine, ask for her and she'll make sure your visit is fantastic. Food arrived in minutes it seemed. The red sauce on my chicken enchiladas was EXACTLY like my mom and grandma use to make! Its been years since I had this taste. If you like grandma's cooking, definitely come here! I know I will bring entire family. Prices from $10-15, however they are open all night and have slow traffic at midnight. I would pay this again!

If you're looking for "Fancy" or "Glitzy"... this ain't your place. However.. If you're looking for a great old school cantina where the owners take interest and pride in their little establishment, where the food is good, atmosphere is relaxing and has a family feel, especially once they get to know you... then this place may just be for you. I have been going here for years at lunch and I consider it one of my regular spots when I just want to relax and enjoy the atmosphere. They have a lot of regular repeat customers, many of which I see when there. The point is... it is definitely worth checking out. Note: Their Salsa definitely has some kick to it, more true to far West Texas and New Mexico, and you get free Iced Tea with the lunch specials.

Been coming to this place for years now. When I go to Houston once a year to visit family, I always end up here at least once at 1 am. Food is great, music is always on point. The got a jukebox! My husband and my sister and I went late one evening after a Christmas party. It was our first time trying this place out and It was 1 am, but the staff was more than inviting and helpful. My husband tried the carne guisada, I had the chimichanga and my sister ordered the enchiladas. We each shared and tried all three, they were all amazing and tasty dishes. It felt like my abuelita cooked it all from scratch! The carne guisada specifically took me back to my childhood. The service was just as great, the ladies were super helpful with our questions about the menu. The salsa for the chips was very spicy, I'll admit that and I can handle spice but this packed a punch. It was delicious but fair warning, it'll knock a sensitive tummy. All in all, we'll definitely be back again to try other items on the menu! Would highly recommend.

I’ve enjoyed amazing food and service from Chapultapec for the past 20 years. Their salsa is top tier and comes with no warning. Hands down—their carne guisada (IMO) is the best in the city.

Chapultepec Lupita never misses! We ordered the tacos al carbon and the Chapultepec platter and wow — both were amazing. The tacos were smoky, tender, and full of flavor, while the platter was the perfect way to sample a little bit of everything. Portions are super generous, so come hungry! We topped it off with sopapillas and honey to seal a perfect date night. The vibe is fun, relaxed, and very Houston — you can tell this place has history and heart. Service was quick and friendly, which made the whole experience even better. If you’re looking for solid Tex-Mex with flavor that keeps you coming back, this spot is it. Can’t wait for the next visit!

It’s the kind of place you genuinely enjoy dining at, thanks to the delicious food and the relaxing atmosphere. The service is warm and attentive and portions are generous. You're welcomed with chips and salsa as soon as you're seated, which is a great touch. Even though the restaurant is often quiet, depending on the times you go there, the calm vibe makes it a perfect spot to unwind and enjoy a good meal.

Staff was really friendly and service was quick. The food was great and big portions. Chips and salsa come with the table and the salsa is very spicy. Drinks are good too with lots of options. The restaurant was very empty so the atmosphere was awkward, but still a great place to eat.

This place was great! Had a comfortable chill vibe. We were looking for somewhere we could eat late night that wouldn't be closing within the hour when we got there. We found it here! The entrance is in the back. When you come in, you seat yourself and there are plenty of areas to choose from. We were greeted immediately and given a menu. The service was nice and quick. Many different food options to select from. The salsa that came while we waited for our meals was delicious and had a spicy kick to it. Keep that in mind if you don't hand spice well. They had a lot of different drinks to try. I didn't get one but will next time. The bathrooms are upstairs and were very clean. I will definitely return. Check them out if you're looking for late night Mexican on the weekends!

The first thing I noticed was how immaculately clean this restaurant was. The salsa was some of the best,if not the best salsa I've had at a restaurant. It had a little kick and was very flavorful. I got the shredded beef chimi and it was very good. (4.2/5) My boyfriend got the fish tacos and enjoyed them as well. (4/5) We came later in the night around midnight and service was great. We will be back! 😁

The quesadillas were excellent. The menus that the waitress handed us kind of smelled funny like they were washed with rags. But besides that it was a great experience. Friend said #31 was a little salty so be aware if you are eating here. It is definitely a nice hole in the wall. I wouldn't have known there was a restaurant here without Google maps. Really wish the quesasilla lunch special included beans, but overall it was a satisfying meal.

S

Very laid back. I had higher expectations for the frozen margarita - tasted a little "packaged" I'm not sure if it's still 24 hours but this was one of my favorite things about Richmond location. With margarita, appetizer, taco salad and tip = $40 for one.

This is a very unique spot! 📍 While it is open 24/7, it really seems 2 come alive as a popular late-night destination. 🌙 The food is quite average, & the atmosphere is very simple & basic, but the staff here are truly wonderful, super nice & friendly 2 everyone! 💕 One very important tip for anyone visiting 4 the 1st. time: there is actually no front entrance 2 the building. 🚪🚫 Instead, u need 2 go around 2 the back & enter through the backyard parking area. 🚗🅿️ It’s a convenient place 4 a late snack, especially because the team makes u feel so welcome, even so late 🙏🏻✨

This is a good place to stop for lunch. I ordered the Lunch Combination Plate and everything was good, but the enchiladas were what really stood out. Whatever sauce they use there is incredible. Prices and service were great.

Had the #45 Plato Estilo San Luis and two fajita one-taco in separate orders - one chicken and one beef. The #45 was large, had ample steak, covered with lots of mushrooms, bell peppers, onions, cheese. Good amount of refried beans and Mexican rice. Tasted very good - beef was tender. A measly bit of lettuce and a slice of tomato. Both tacos had substantial amount of meat, but since it was packed in one box, they only gave one thin quarter slice of tomato and very small amount of lettuce - definitely an oversight. Order automatically came with free chips and be a very spicy salsa that's bottle-and-sell worthy.

Let’s begin at the beginning. I needed to use the restroom & wash my hands. Yes it was small but immaculately clean & stocked. Menu has a huge variety of selections. I started with a small Chile con queso. Enough for 2 people easily. DELICIOUS!!!! Chips were whole and not broken into little pieces and fragments & the salsa was so fresh!! Unbelievable. I decided to order a La carte since I hadn’t been to this restaurant in almost 40 years. It was clean and the service was awesome. I ordered a beef crispy taco and it was FILLED with ground beef. I also ordered a side of refried beans. Meh… good but not great. I had 2 Chiles Toreados. I asked for Serrano peppers instead of jalapenos and received them. HOT!!! HOT!!!!! Wonderful! I also had a tamale which was very nice and a side order of guacamole which was a little bit of a disappointment. I’m going back next week and I will have pictures for you! A La Carte was definitely more expensive but I wanted to try what I wanted to try. Plus I got 2 whole meals out of it so $26 total was reasonable. All in all, very very good! Ok… I’m going to change my review. I went again today with a friend. This time I ordered Enchiladas with Mole. The mole sauce was too watered down. Almost no flavor. I ordered one chicken enchilada, one cheese and one spinach…NO to the spinach. Gag me. All positives above remain.

A cozy restaurant, with plenty seating, enough parking space in the Montrose area. The service was great, you feel welcomed. They have good lunch specials. On my first visit I tried the chile relleno, which was good. I'll come back when I get to be in the area to try something else.

Chapultepec Mexican Restaurant offers a compelling trade-off: excellent, flavorful food and convenient access, balanced against a need for facility updates. This spot is a winner for anyone prioritizing taste and selection over atmosphere. The primary draw is undoubtedly the food. The large menu ensures there’s a dish for every craving, from classic staples to more unique offerings. The complimentary chips and salsa set a high bar, particularly the salsa, which delivers a satisfying level of spice. Plus, the restaurant boasts a large, accommodating parking lot, making arrival and departure hassle-free. However, the dining experience has a few minor drawbacks. While the salsa is a highlight, the chips themselves are noted to be a little thick, which might not suit those who prefer a lighter crisp. More significantly, the dining space feels old and outdated, potentially impacting the overall ambiance and comfort for guests seeking a modern environment. Overall, Chapultepec is a fantastic choice for those looking for genuinely good Mexican food and a wide variety of options. If you can overlook the aging interior, the quality and spice of the cuisine—and the convenience of the large parking lot—make it a worthwhile visit.

The food was definitely high quality and staff were nice; we were there late at night and it was still near full. Personally I didn’t love the atmosphere.

The food tasted homemade but it wasn't anything special in terms of your standard Tex-Mex fare. I got a Skinny Margarita that was pretty sub par and yet, expensive. The waitstaff wasn't very attentive or professional. I saw a woman who was clearly on the clock applying eye-shadow behind where they serve the drinks! All in all, the food and the service is not worth the money.

Normal tasting food. The place is old and has an odor. Only one choice of salsa. The fresh water ain’t fresh. It’s made with the sugar packet. Like Mexican koolaid. For authentic I would go elsewhere.

I was in the area and tried to go to another Tex Mex/Mexican restaurant that ended up being closed. I remembered a colleague telling me about this place and it was close by, so I decided to check it out. For some reason, walking in was a bit awkward. Maybe it was the lack of any music ( which I don’t think I consciously registered at the time), or the lack of greeting. It was so quiet in there. It was like a movie, when the new guy in town walks in a room and all heads turn and look but no one talks. I felt like Marty McFly walking into the saloon in 1885 for the first time. In the words of Tupac..”All Eyez On Me.” After the awkward entrance and silence, I made my way to a seat. At this point, I’m just astounded at how quiet it is in this place. It was a Sunday but even church is louder than this. I couldn’t decide if the outdated look of the place was by design or just ambivalence. Either way, what I’m really here is for good food, so judging by the looks, I am expecting some abuela level cuisine here. Growing up in a West Texas Mexican household, I have high expectations when it comes to “authentic Tex Mex/Mexican food” (don’t get me started on this loaded phrase/label and debate). I’m not sure people in the USA, even Texas, understand how many regions and influences there are in Mexican food, Texas Mexican food being one of them. I digress, though, so let me step off my soapbox. The first time I’m coming to a new Texas Mexican restaurant I’m looking for a few things to standout. The salsa that comes with the chips. I’ll give some leeway on the chips themselves although they can’t be totally generic, but way less leeway on the salsa. This salsa was really good! This is the heat level that seems to be lacking in a lot of restaurants I’ve gone to in the area. When the salsa brings a tear to my eye, these are tears of happiness! Okay, salsas good. Let’s check a few other things. Do they have Carne Guisada? Check! I’ll order that. And let’s see what those tortillas do. The waitress was very polite and gave us time to peruse the menu. On a side note, there is a dish called Chapulines on the menu, which means grasshopper in Mexican Spanish ( influenced by Nahuatl, a native Mexican language), and is a thing in Mexican, especially Oaxacan cuisine (again regional). I haven’t found them outside of Hugo’s (let me know Yelpers) in Houston. So I saw this and was excited as heck until I realized, it’s just a chicken or beef burrito. Huh? New one to me. Never heard of burritos referred by that name before. Anyway, the Carne Guisada comes out. It looks a little different than what my mom and abuela cooked and almost every restaurant in west Texas. I’m used to a lot more gravy with my meat. Half of the fun is trying to soak up all the gravy with tortillas. This had very little. The meat was good. It had a good flavor and was tender and the serving size was good. The beans and rice were solid but not outstanding. The tortillas were a little meh to me. Just not as soft and pliable as I like. If you’ve ever had homemade abuela or mom tortillas, you know what I mean. Everything was ok and I’d like to try some other things out sometime but I’m not rushing back at the moment. I was going to give 2 stars but then I remembered the salsa, which I ordered a container to go. It was that good. I’d go back just for that. The waitress was very good. Attentive and polite. I’m still mystified about the quiet in there though. Play some music, please. Anything, Tejano, Norteño, Banda, Corridos. Even 80’s or Country music. It’s just weird listening to the table two booths away from me talk about how much they hate El Paso for 30 minutes. I’ll give it a three for now. I hope to return in the future and have a better experience.

The Service was great and the margarita was delicious. I had the Monterrey combo plate. The sides and fajita skewers were tasty and well made. The beef enchiladas were a disappointment though. The sauce tasted like marinara and not what I think of when I think of Mexican food.

I was reading the reviews for this place and I need to disagree. Food is not authentic mexican food (I am mexican) but Tex-Mex food. My sister took me to this place after a night dancing just because they open late. We even agreed this looked like some of the places targeted to please foreigners and their concept of what Mexican food is. To be honest I didn’t like the salsa that came with the totopos (what in english people call tortilla chips), and I was starving. It was flavourless. Totoposnwere good though. I ordered the enchiladas verdes but was surprised they looked red. When I looked closer I finally saw the sauce was green but the tortillas were red. There was not much sauce for my liking. Taste was ok. The drink was good (jamaica water) and it was very generous (we even got a container and took the leftover of the drink home). The place was full so we were sat at the section at very back of the place. That room is all concrete and sound bounced all around making it terribly noisy. I was starting to get a headache because of how noisy it was. Still if you are hungry and look for food late, this is an ok option

I have been ordering from Chapultepec Lupita a lot lately and everything has been great until tonight. Order of flautas was missing, fajitas for two was a much smaller portion than usual, and queso, though normally on the thinner side compared to other places, was so thin you could drink it. Might be time to move on to another taqueria.

The staff and overall atmosphere were acceptable for a late-night meal around midnight. However, my friends and I found the quality and flavor of the food to be underwhelming, especially given the high prices. Based on our experience, this establishment may appeal more to a late-night crowd rather than those seeking authentic or high-quality Mexican cuisine or something much more affordable.

The last time I was here was back in 2010, and I used to frequent this place. It was a go to spot after going to Numbers, Fitzgeralds, or any sort of nightlife. I'd go after work sometimes because it was affordable, and they had great margaritas. I considered it a houston staple but the last time I was there I knew it would be the last time I would willingly go. The prices got jacked up quite a bit, as if it were fine dining but this is just mexican slop food, it is not meant to be expensively priced. Either increase the food quality or keep the prices in check. The last time I went the food was so terrible I just said I am never coming back. The only reason you would go here is because you just absolutely need Mexican food at 3am and you don't care. I can't recommend this place. I gotta say even fast food has higher quality standards. This ain't the chapultapec I loved

This place has become to big for its pantalones. They now charge $2 extra if you order breakfast after noon. You can't get breakfast tacos at night even if you pay the extra $2. No free refills on sodas. Water to go is 50 cents. I will be going to Andy's in the Heights from now on.

I used to come to Chapultepec Lupita years ago, and it’s disappointing to see how far it has fallen. The food came out in under three minutes, which immediately raised concerns. It tasted bland and reheated, almost microwaved. There were no bold Mexican flavors, no freshness, no depth. Just flat, lifeless food. The atmosphere felt just as neglected. The restaurant smelled stale, like old mop water, and the entire space felt worn down and uncared for. What used to feel lively and cultural now feels tired and empty. This place no longer reflects the vibrancy and flavor that Mexican food is known for. It’s honestly depressing to see what it’s become.

Color me unimpressed. The chili con queso was a disaster, the only sauce for chips were “hot or nothing,” and my chimichanga had all the excitement of plain toast. We had to chase down every basic thing—including the check. That was my first and last visit.

I came in late night for a quick bite to go. I ordered a veggie BURRITO and this is what they brought out. The food came out in literally 2-3 minutes I should have checked my bag before leaving but I wasn’t expecting this since I ordered a burrito. The tortilla was big enough for a taco I couldn’t even roll it up. There was maybe 3 pieces of tomato I guess they considered that to be pico. The lady that took my order was nice and because I came in late I tipped 50% of my total.

I am disgusted and hurt by the behavior of Raul, the manager of Chapultepec Lupita. For context, I have been going to Chapultepec Lupita since I moved to the area (4+ years) to the point where I come at night and they don't even hand me a menu (I absolutely adore their menudo and got it every chance I could) - I would bring friends and really try to support this local small business. It was my spot for after club food. On the morning of 21 June 2025, I brought a party of 8 people to Chapultepec Lupita. One of my party was wearing something that the manager, Raul, disagreed with. This individual was covered, not at all exposed, and even if they were it doesn't justify his behavior. Raul insisted they put a jacket on to cover themselves. They chose not to, and having brought all of them there, I felt embarrassed that Raul would do such a thing to me (a long time customer) and to a table of new customers. We started to leave, when I began telling Raul and the staff that it was extremely disappointing and inappropriate. He began raising his voice at me, then as our party was walking out of the door of the restaurant, he kicked me in my shin. I was aghast, not knowing how he could do such a thing. I called the police, and Raul lied to them, saying I spit in his face. So not only was my party verbally assaulted, I was physically assaulted, and the manager of this restaurant lied to the police. Here's a tip (since you'll never ever have one of mine again): Be A Man. Liars don't get very far. Cowards that kick someone while they're walking away don't get very far, either. It's not a good look on you, nor your restaurant. Terribly disappointed.

Food was bland and way overpriced. In a city like Houston there are far better places for Tex Mex.

L

I didn’t walk into that restaurant expecting to feel judged, but that’s exactly what happened. Raul, the manager, made me and my friends feel small, like we didn’t belong. It wasn’t just a glance or tone—it was the clear discomfort he showed when he realized we were part of the LGBTQ+ community. His coldness, the way he avoided us, even how he responded to simple questions—it all added up. It’s exhausting having to be on guard in places that should feel safe. I don’t expect every person to understand my life, but I do expect basic respect. Raul made it clear that wasn’t on the menu.

They refused service cuz i was wearing the same outfit as a female. Homophobic restaurant. Get out of montrose if you don’t like gay people.

This place was deserving of what I call the "YIKES" category. The men's restroom is barely big enough for one person to be able to fit in. I ordered the chimichanga and it was the only thing that was hot on my plate besides the actual plate itself. My dad ordered the beef fajitas and the waitress gave him the chicken fajitas. In all seriousness they only served him about 1 cup of cooked beef fajitas for $20. Plus half a cup of bell peppers and another half cup of grilled onions. We were the second group of people in there for the whole time we were there, about an hour. My mom ordered the tacos al carbon and they were good sized tacos 2 for $16. But the rice and the beans were room temperature. The beans were watery for mine and hers while the "Mexican rice" tasted like instant rice with chicken bouillon to give it the color we all associate with Mexican style rice. All of our sides were room temperature. And the waitress did the bare minimum of her job. She never once came to give us a refill and she didn't come to check us out only to see how much we left as a tip.

J
Jesus Morales

My co worker, Timothy Cadwell recommended this restaurant because he said it was good Mexican food. He was lying. The salsa has no flavor, the tortillas are partially cooked. The guacamole taste like peanuts, and the beans were watery. Would not recommend for authentic Mexican food. **********update********** Food did not sit well.

This place is a public service staying open so late and having great service. Unfortunately my chicken enchiladas are inedible because of how many bones are in them.

Please don’t come and save your time!!! This is the worst Mexican/ Tex-mex place I’ve ever been in Houston!! Drinks taste like water but you’re still paying full price. Vibes are… silent? The salsa seemed like it had been used 5 times before they gave it to us 😖 And the bathroom had cockroaches 🪳 To the owner: pleaseee! you can do better!! To the clients: don’t come until things are better. Is not worth it now!

I hate like Hell to say this, but I have to report a problem at this restaurant. Yesterday, through no fault of my own, I was suddenly pulled into a very potentially dangerous situation, and almost had my purse stolen. Please be careful in their parking lot. Although big, the restaurant is only blocks from both The Spyr and several homeless encampments.

G
Gustavo Alecio

I couldn’t even finish the flautas I ordered from how spicy hot was the free salsa with chips. The level of hot was obscene. I grew up in Latin America eating spicy all my life but this should be illegal. I wish I could report somewhere.

J

Extremely homophobic establishment , turned a friend away who was fully clothed and accepted girls on Halloween who had little to no clothes on. Very weird to be in montrose if you don’t want gay people eating here. Please do NOT support this business as they discriminate against willing paying customers. Please do not eat here.

I used to always come here & went there last night and man has it gone down. First they now charge for refills on sodas. I also noticed they charge $1.25 for water & to go cups. Then the quality of food is so bad. I got the tamales and all of the cheese and chili they put on it made me sick to my stomach. You can tell they changed their ingredients to cheaper quality. My partner got menudo and they didn’t clean it enough. It smelled so bad. Terrible experience here i wouldn’t recommend this place at all. Also the owner was rushing the waitress to pressure us into leaving. Just all around bad service at this place. Another restaurant to cross off of my list after years of dining here. Sad what’s happened here. The money grab is ridiculous here and it’s showing.

I
Izzy Perez

Hey..this is for the owner who told us that 1:00 AM is whenever he says it is because he’s the “owner”. Bad attitude if you really are the owner! We arrived at 12:10 AM to locked doors and this is how the “owner” greeted us. I’ll never come back. Thanks Mr. “Owner” smh

R

I really enjoyed the place until the waitress tried to charge me twice as much!!!! BE CAREFUL! She thought that I would not see / complain when get brought the check without the detailed items. She got surprised when i asked for it and that was wrong. Losing a client that come regularly for easy 20$ is too dumb in my opinion.

K
Katrina Katrina

I’m surprised this place can stay open with how bad the food and customer service are. The menudo was terrible. It’s not cleaned or cooked properly and is very chewy. I do not recommend. I was hoping to find a place closer than Taqueria Arandas in the heights. But if you like your menudo to have tender tripe and not chewy then stay away from here.
