Absolutely loved this place! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was welcoming and the staff made us feel right at home. The food was fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care — every bite was amazing. You can really tell how much passion goes into what they do here. If you’re looking for great food, great service, and a place you’ll want to come back to again and again, this is it. Highly recommend!
Beautiful restaurant, excellent ambiance, and very good food. Don’t label roost a “neighborhood spot” because it’s a lot more than that. The remodel looks really nice, very tasteful. The seats are actually well padded and not some hard wood nonsense like a lot of high end restaurants that just want to turn tables. The temperature is very comfortable, not too cold not too hot. The music is incredible - you’re going to hear songs you long forgot about it that span classic hip hop to r&b. The food is excellent and the service is great. At the same time, this is a very approachable menu with multiple items you’ll want to try. I loved it.
Such an awesome restaurant !! Came with some friends for dinner service was excellent, the food was really good ! We had couple different entrees ! The pretzel 🥨 bread was so good with different dips to use with ! The fish tasted really fresh and the sauce was so good ! The Cauliflower app was so cute the presentation! ! Drinks were just as good too great wine selection , What a neighborhood gem to have nearby ! Def be back 👌
Delicious. Loved the menu and the freshness of the food. The team was nice and worked with us. The easy delight of a meal that fosters nice memories with friends. We ordered all the desserts. If I had to choose my to top one, it would be the passion fruit one, and the donuts are a very close second. I'm another life/body, I would get the baked brie as my entree. We'll be back.
Our second time here. They recently renovated and the space is looking so cute! We went in for their happy hour on a Wednesday and were so pleased with our drinks and dishes. We ordered the pretzel (so soft and delicious), the white bean hummus with pita chips, and their cauliflower bites. We were both satisfied after our meal and were pleasantly surprised by our bill. Regardless of the happy hour, this place is worth a visit for the food. With a cozy atmosphere and friendly service, it won’t disappoint!
Very relaxed environment to enjoy dinner. Came for restaurant week with a 3 month old and was happy they accommodated a corner spot for stroller to let our little one snooze while we enjoyed dinner. Our waiter was very helpful in guiding some popular dishes. We enjoyed the bread service a lot and would get again. I liked the shrimp and melon starter—exceptional combination of sweet and savory. The short rib pasta was just ok for me but loved the butter cake. Wife had the pork chop which I would definitely get next time. Donuts were a little heavy for me personally but they tasted good. We took advantage of the 30% off all day Monday happy hour and got a bottle of their GSM. We would definitely come back and I thought it was a good value for restaurant week.
Quaint little house restaurant. Very nice ingredient variety on a small menu, which they refresh every 8 weeks. For the price, quality is exceptional... Dinner for 2 cost $50-100 less than at others of similar quality. Also a solid global wine variety for a neighborhood spot. They accommodated a special menu request without a second thought. Worth a visit!
Came here for a birthday date. We wanted something not so crowded, more intimate and this place was perfect! The food was amazing, we really enjoyed the octopus & the fried cauliflower. The bread service was so unexpectedly delicious, I mean bread is great but this bread with the different butters and cheese was so flavorful! Sadly we didn't get dessert because they were about to close & we felt bad asking for some so late but the coffee and donuts were really tasty according to our table neighbors. Next time, we'll make sure we try it!
This is the local "hidden" gem in Houston. Definitely get the cauliflower appetizer and I always get the pickled vegetables of the day. Very cool eclectic menu has some Creole, South Asian and Middle Eastern influences and sometimes a little latin touch. Decent wine list and grab a local beer on tap. The atmosphere is very unpretentious..almost feels like your in your grandma's basement setting, but I am totally OK with it. One of my top go to restaurants in Houston.
We have come to Roost a handful of times and it is usually a mixed bag. One of my favorite things about Roost is that the menu changes frequently so you can come back often and never be bored. One of my least favorite things is that when you order red wine is room temperature to a little bit warm. On our most recent visit, we came on a Friday night for a date. The service is always very friendly and we were seated right away. I started with a salad and had chicken while my partner had the cauliflower and the duck confit. The foot was very good, but my only caveat is that I asked for my salad to be lightly dressed and despite assuring me that the salad came with very light minimal dressing it was positively swimming in vinaigrette. Lesson learned, I will just order it on the side next time. Outside of that we had a lovely dinner and am always happy to have this restaurant in the neighborhood.
My partner and I came here to celebrate a birthday. The atmosphere is cozy and the service was pretty okay. We tried several dishes: fried cauliflower, pickled vegetables, oysters Rockefeller, Brussels sprouts, shrimp and grits, duck two ways, and donuts and coffee. The shrimp and grits, Brussels sprouts, and oysters were phenomenal, and everything else was good too. Although this restaurant isn’t at the top of my list, I do plan to return!
I made reservations for a party of 7 and our table was ready for us when we arrived. We had the bread for an appetizer based on other reviews and it did not disappoint. The butters were very good. Some family members had the chicken and loved it. Some had the fish and liked it as well. I had the ribs which were excellent. Flavorful and meaty. I also had the Thai curry shrimp grits. The grits were so creamy. The curry was well done. I had the pear and ice cream dessert and it was great. The pears were a little tougher than I wanted but would still order again. The whipped cream was very good too. The service started off choppy with it taking a while for us to put in our drink orders and food orders and needing refills for a while but it eventually got much better.
I had heard many positive and enthusiastic reviews about Roost. Unfortunately, our experience was less than expected. We came for the Houston Restaurant Weeks menu of three courses. The first course was pretty good (cauliflower was tasty and well cooked; the polenta and sauce were nicely done). The second course was less stellar (chicken and dumplings was too salty and the chicken was very dry; the crusted gulf fish lacked depth of flavor and the combination of hot fish on top of a lukewarm beet/orange salad was not a good pairing). The last course was nice, we both ordered the mango sorbet with assorted small fruits of lychee and berries was refreshing. Overall, the dinner was just ok. I'd say the food was underwhelming. The ambience was intimate and nice lighting. For being indoors, it did become a little too warm and the humidity inside at times felt a bit stifling. The wait staff was incredibly courteous, attentive, and very much appreciated.
Overall, it was a good experience. When we first walked in, it took a little while to be greeted. We were told to sit wherever we liked, which was fine, but it took about 10–15 minutes for a server to come by. After being seated, we ordered the bread service, which took about 20 minutes to arrive. We tried the Jalapeño Burger and the Tandoori Octopus. The burger had good flavor but was overcooked, and both the tandoori and the tater tots were quite salty. The margaritas, however, were delicious. I would return, but the food wasn’t quite what I expected.
The reviews had been so positive I was excited to dine here. The first stumble was having to flag a server down so that I could have anyone take a drink order before the food arrived. Then the mushroom toast had a cold egg, and half the mushrooms were room temp, all served on a cold plate. I would have expected the temps to be uniformly warm…. Good food would have offset the waitress’ lack of a basic level of service. Because I was hungry and had heard such good things about the food, I doubled down and ordered the burger - hard to get a burger wrong. The burger did go a long way to redeeming the experience, but honestly was no where near as good as the burger I ate a Lankford grill the day before. The concept is good, the space is wonderful (it reminds me a a chic neighborhood place on the Upper East Side in NYC) but while the execution is clearly good for some, hence the positive reviews, based on my experience Roost is inconstant. If it was my neighborhood walk to I get it, but I am not in a hurry to return given so many great options in Houston…
Usually a favorite of mine, but the last visit was just not good. At just over an hour we had only recieved water and appetizers. This was after having to chase down a menu, and then chasing down cutlery when the apps came. Historically I would have been fine waiting as the food is typically exceptional, but the food was just not good. The tapioca shrimp was overcooked, the white bean hummus was meh, and the cauliflower fell way short of its standard perfection. Ended up having to take the scallops and fish to go. Both of those were decent. It could have just been an off night as it seems they were slammed from a combination of Houston Restaurant Week traffic and maybe working through increased capacity from a recent renovation (looks good), but very poor showing.
The bread appetizer is to die for!! The burger was good(hard to mess up)...and the quail was cooked well but the rest of that dish was a bore. Menu was tight. I found it difficult to choose anything that I actually wanted. We started out with one waitress and by the time we ordered we had a new one. First one acted super annoyed with us. Nice ambiance despite it all.
