Opinions de Somboon Thai Kitchen Houston
So many places in Houston to eat Thai, and it never gets old trying more. Definitely put this one on the top of my list. Great service and delicious plates with lots of flavor. Very nice atmosphere for two or more.
I recently stopped by and had such a great experience from start to finish. We ordered the Tiger Cut super tender and packed with bold spices definitely a highlight of the night. The fried long beans were extra crispy and addicting, and the fried chicken wings were juicy, perfectly seasoned, and served hot. The combination soup was comforting, rich, and full of flavor ideal if you’re looking for something warm and hearty. The Som Boon Pad Thai with shrimp was one of my favorites it had the perfect balance of sweetness, spice, and umami. You can really tell how fresh everything is. And to wrap it all up, we had the mango sticky rice, which was light, sweet, and beautifully presented. The service was friendly, the ambiance was fun and casual, and the food came out quickly. Whether you're a Thai food lover or just in the mood to try something new, I highly recommend SOM BOOM. It’s one of those spots you’ll definitely want to come back to!
Hands down, the BEST Thai restaurant in Houston — no question. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Som Boom Thai Kitchen delivers an unmatched Thai dining experience every single time. Every dish is a knockout — from the bold and flavorful curries to the perfectly balanced pad Thai. The spice is real, the ingredients are fresh, and the cooking is pure passion. And don’t even get me started on the mango sticky rice — sweet, creamy, and the perfect finish to a flawless meal. It’s the kind of dessert that stays on your mind long after the last bite. Service is warm, the vibe is cozy, and the food speaks for itself. If you know real Thai food, this is it. No gimmicks — just authentic, soul-satisfying perfection.
I was pleasantly surprised by Som Boon - it's a contender for my favorite Thai restaurant in Houston! The pad thai woon sen in the specials menu is incredible - really creative and delicious. Highly recommended.
A friend put me on to Som Boom Thai Kitchen and wow—so good! The Pad Thai was a 10/10, probably the best I’ve had. Super flavorful and fresh. The vibe was chill, service was friendly, and everything came out quick. Definitely coming back!
Favorite Thai place in Houston. All food is very flavorful and tasty. The Thai hot is a good hotness level for me
My party of 6 dined here on a Friday evening. The staff was very kind and knowledgeable about the menu. We were celebrating a birthday and they were very accommodating. Be careful with spice, they are true to Thai spice level. I can eat pretty spicy and medium level was perfect for me. We ordered a variety of different dishes and every single one of them was amazing. My personal favorite is the panang curry (we added chicken). The curry was so aromatic and flavorful. Overall, I give the restaurant 10/10. Great quality, excellent and fast service.
Authentic Thai cooking based on what I had. The flavors were great without trying to overpower. The spring rolls were fried crisp, the filling was a delicious with a good amount of glass noodles. The fried rice was on point with well cooked rice that was ‘fried’ in a really hot wok. The food was awesome and I will be back to try some more Thai classics
Pad Thai is awesome. My favorite place in town. I don't think real Pad Thai is as sweet as its usually served in the States but this place literally puts a mound of sugar on the side so you can sweeten it up to your liking. Which is perfect cause I dont like mine very sweet. Drunken noodles weren't my thing. Soup doesn't seem to pair well with the rest of my order but by itself still very comforting and home-y.
This is the best Thai restaurant I’ve ever been to! I highly recommend everyone to come here. I’m absolutely in love with the Moo Ping—I had it 3 days in a row! The Tiger Cry is a must-try, and the Garlic Chicken is just perfect . Personally, the Som Tum Lao is my favorite My husband is a big fan of the Kua Gai noodles, and if you love noodles, you have to try them. The location is super convenient The only thing that didn’t impress me was the Thai tea it was a bit weak, too milky. But that’s a small detail compared to how great everything else. Since they just open for soft opening just give them a chance to deal with the waiting line the food will not disappoint you
Highly recommend coming here! I got the green curry and almost chose the medium level until our server (can’t remember her name but she was amazing), warned me and decided to go with the mild choice and it ended up being just the right mount of spice for me despite having green curry before! The restaurant was beautiful and the service was attentive. We came here on 08/01 with no expectations but was actually blown away. DON’T SKIP OUT!!!
This is the authentic Thai restaurant I have been looking for. I came for dinner one day and loved it so much I came back the very next day. The flavor of the dishes truly capture authentic Thai flavor. The only restaurant I’ve come across using Thai holy basil in their pad kaprao instead of regular sweet Thai basil. Still in the soft opening phase and there are some kinks to work out. But I am very excited to try the rest of the menu.
Finally got authentic Thai food in town. I love the Yum Woon Sen and Lao Papaya Salad. We can feel the chef's passion through their food. Everything we had was tasty. Thai tea was really good, too.
The food is amazing. The taste is really good with the spice level being pretty high compared to other restaurants. Each dish has a very generous amount of protein. Overall a really good deal for their price range. Also, do keep in mind because it's a soft opening right now, they don't have the whole menu. They didn't carry any curries right now though it showed on their menu on their website. They also have BYOB right now. However, the space isn't too big and when we went it was super crowded. The restaurant workers arranged a table for us but all the tables were too close to each other and it was hard to move around. But beside the space crunch, everything was really good. The servers are also very friendly.

Been there so many times since it's near our house. All stir fried plates are top notch! I'm Thai but I would say that some of their dishes are even better than the Thai restaurant in Thailand. Just don't go too far order the medium spicy --it is very spicy for here 😂 Pandan cake is a must try too! Highly recommended.

My husband and I really like this cozy Thai Bistro. The food is deliciously spicy and the service is exellent! I like the green curry as well as the Panang curry. It tastes liked it is layered in spices. It is great to have a choice of table or booth . We also appreciate the fresh flowers and cloth napkins. We always have the same server He is so helpful and friendly.
I don’t really ever write reviews, but we loved this restaurant. We brought our kids. The food was amazing. Best Pad See Ew I’ve ever had, they used thick fresh wide rice noodles with the perfect char. I love Thai food and have tried countless Thai restaurants in Houston and this is my favorite! Family friendly, delicious food, and great appretizers as well. We will definitely be back.
We had dinner for two at a new Thai restaurant and ordered Pad See Ew, Basil Pork, and Mango Sticky Rice, all at a medium spice level, which was perfect for our palate. The Pad See Ew was the standout dish of the night, featuring chewy flat noodles and authentic Thai flavors. The Basil Chicken paired well with white rice, though it was slightly dry; next time, we’ll try the pork version, which might be juicier. I also wished for a bit more garlic and fish sauce to enhance the depth of flavor. The Mango Sticky Rice was a delightful way to end the meal. Excellent service and a convenient location. We’ll definitely be back to explore more dishes!
As someone who loves exploring new Thai restaurants, this spot was a pleasant surprise! The pricing is super reasonable, and the flavors really stand out—bold, balanced, and satisfying. While the beef was a touch chewier than I prefer, it didn’t take away from the overall enjoyment of the meal. The appetizer was packed with flavor, and the food came out piping hot (temperature-wise, not spicy)—a definite plus! Another bonus? Plenty of parking and a clean, well-maintained space. I especially appreciated the separate his-and-hers restrooms—no sharing required, which is always a win in my book. If you’re looking for a budget-friendly Thai spot with solid flavor and a comfortable atmosphere, this place is worth a visit! Deliciously Toxic Foodie
The food was decent. A bit overpriced for what you get. The server was neither rude or friendly. The only thing that got me was the $2 charge for a bit of soy sauce. Most restaurants don't charge extra for soy sauce. You can buy a small bottle for that price. That's crazy.
Overall pretty delicious. However, I’m not sure if you need to ask for veggies or not but the Thai curry we had, had no vegetables. Pad Thai was too sweet. Overall I would say decent food but not the best Thai I’ve had. Generous pour on the wines though so I’m grateful :)
Lunch at Son Boom Thai Kitchen today on Durham at I-10 at 12:15 with two friends. They are still in their soft opening phase and have to iron out a few things but it seems promising. When we arrived we were the only customers but by the time we left there were 3 other parties. They are still on their soft opening menu which is substantial but they are not yet offering everything on the website (no curries). I had egg rolls and stir fried vegetables with shrimp. My friends had Pad See Ewe and a dry noodle with broth. We all liked what we had and all said we would go back. The servers were very friendly and accommodating but service needs some tweaks. It is currently BYOB and we bought wine which the server acknowledged, but after 15 minutes and after ordering we had to remind him we needed wine glasses. They brought out the mains one at a time and there was 10 minutes from when the first of us got our meal until we were all served our main dish. I asked for my dish medium spicy and there was no spice at all. I ordered stir fry with shrimp and extra shrimp for $3 and there were just 4 shrimp total in the bowl. I did not ask or complain. We asked to split our bill on 3 cards and told it was not a problem. The server used an iPhone and the only person who could tip on their card was the last card entered. So, some kinks to work out but the space is pleasant and everything we ordered was yummy. The food was delicious. Will definitely give it a second go.

The food is very hot and fresh. If you have a favorite Thai restaurant and you come here, you may notice some differences. I think they’re curry could be improved, but a lot of their other dishes are spot on! Also, their spice level is very intense. Medium is super hot for me anyway :-) presentation is always lovely. The photo is pork pad Thai.

My friend and I are big Thai food fans, and we were on the hunt for a new go-to spot after Thai Gourmet closed. We ordered our usual: pad thai, green curry, and crab fried rice, plus some steamed dumplings. When ordering, we made several specific requests, like extra eggs, sprouts, and bamboo shoots. Unfortunately, they messed up two of our orders, which was pretty frustrating. First off, our appetizer dumplings never came before the main dishes. When I asked the manager-seeming lady about them, she said they weren't even on our order! She offered to get them, but we passed since they were supposed to be an appetizer. Not a huge deal, but still annoying. Then, our pad thai arrived with raw bean sprouts and peanuts, even though I clearly told the server we wanted cooked sprouts and absolutely no peanuts because of allergies. By that point, I was just over the constant mistakes. Honestly, the food tasted really good, and we liked that they could make everything spicy. But the lack of communication and getting the orders wrong was a big issue. I'd consider trying them again, but I'm hesitant because I really don't like having to repeat my order multiple times. We did enjoy the flavor, though!
