Get the barbacoa. The Charro beans before the meal are great every time. They don't always have someone who speaks English, but they will work with you. Staff is always nice. The owner was also very nice.
Authentic Mexican food in the heart of the city. Good size portions and flavorful.
Tasty food, super fast service. A bit loud for me, but if you like karaoke, DJ and music with your meal and drinks, definitely a place to visit.
Small local restaurant with really good food! Very affordable! I have tried different plates for different occasions and have not been disappointed yet. Family oriented and karaoke on the weekends.
Food was delicious and the service was very respectful and responsive. I'd recommend this to anyone who is looking for a great meal and great service.
The food here was really good and fast service. Definitely will be back if back in this area
The name is exactly what it is , a Little piece of Monterrey here in Houston. Caprichos are the best ! Also love the green sauce . the employees and owner are always very nice ! They also have Karaoke night on the weekends so you can eat and hang out with ur friends or family.
This Mexican restaurant is a an amazing hole in the wall place with delicious food! They serve a of beans instead the typical chips and salsa here. Definitely try this place if you're looking for something new.
Limited menu of amazing Tacos de otra onda. I always get the tacos de trompo, de queso flameado con chorizo, y una margarita mango. This place is legit and they party hard on the weekends, they got karaoke and all the old folks come out and get weird. People are super nice and the prices are right. This is better than the place that used to be here with all the neon.
I decided to stop by since I passed the place many times before. It's unassuming but the food there is really good. I tried the piratas which were amazing. Also the staff is really great. The host was welcoming and helped me decide what to choose from the menu and the cook did really great. I definitely recommend trying this place at least once.
Great food, great service. Need I say more?
Food is amazing really great tacos, and the server was nice and friendly. I definitely recommend this place.
Good hole in the wall spot for food from Monterrey. $40.00 for two people was not bad at all.
Ordered breakfast tacos, huevos con papas, huevos a la Mexicana, huevos con tocino. All with cheese, avocado and refried beans. Delicious! They forgot to give me my bottle of water though.
Very authentic Mexican place. Amazing food that literally tastes like Monterrey. The atmosphere is what you expect, loud but very friendly.
I only go there for the taquitos de canasta with shredded beef they are the best. The prices are supper affordable and when i go its always slow so the service is pretty fast. The only thing that i noticed last time was that the smell from the restroom was coming into the dinning area so i tired to seat as far as possible other than that the service and food wore great
This spot is a sleeper. I thought I had the best trompo tacos before, but this place is number one. The trompo here is superior. The horchata is not good, but margaritas are. Prices are the fairest in the land. Get the Lalo plate.
Seriously delicious food at very reasonable prices. They also have a full bar and can make a huge variety of drinks. I highly recommend the margaritas here, they taste amazing and are pretty dang strong!
this is one of the busiest places that I go to for tacos. They have other items that are delicious and I recommend that you should try them. When they get really busy sometimes it’s difficult to get a hold of anyone so you can get your food or order but it’s fine and the food is delicious and worth it. I’m grateful that my partner has showed me this place and I hope that you try it. As always much love to everyone.
The tacos are awesome here! Free beans!!
I'm from Monterrey and can definitely vouch for this place. They sell real Monterrey / Mexican food and the taste is similar to those. I had the taco platter and it was delicious. Highly recommend.
Heard great things about this restaurant and went here after coming back from vacation as it is close to Hobby Airport. It is very nice inside. My wife and I had Fajitas and they were great. We started with the tasty Queso which is mixed with beef. We also had the amazing pork sausage. We will definitely be back.
This place is the bomb! The food is always amazingly delicious. I grew up in Monterrey and I have to say this place is the closest to authentic food from my hometown. I will even go as far as to say- the best authentic Mexican food restaurant in Houston. From flavor to quality of ingredients. To the other people complaining about the service, I can’t completely agree. Vanessa has always been a delight, she’s super friendly and attentive. As for everyone else that works there, they do need customer service improvement. This place is a MUST try!
Beans were hard. Not cooked all the way. Pastor meat was old on a Saturday night. My whole 2 dinners were inedible.
I eat here almost every Friday, always great food. Ordering is a little tough if you don’t speak any Spanish though. Overall one of the best authentic Mexican spots around. Update: moved to Ohio and boy do I miss this place, in the north they have texmex and think it’s Mexican food lol.
Checked out this place one evening after getting off work because I didn't feel like cooking. I realize why it has such good reviews. The food was delicious! Authentic Mexican food with great service. Can't wait to go back for lunch sometime!
The singer there is very good The price and portion sizes are great.
One of the most delicious places to have food that is close to Monterrey, pr at least some of their most unique items, you don’t know what to get? thats jo problem Lalo’ is a plate that constitutes of 2 Bistek tacos 2 Trompo Tacos, and 2 Tlaquepaque tacos, best option available! also beware of the Tlaquepaque sauce, it has a kick to it
The food is reasonably priced and delicious. Tacos are fantastic, not one bad menu item. Will enjoy this restaurant more and their breakfast menus is not to be overlooked. Highly recommend.
The food was absolutely amazing. Best steak tacos I’ve had in a very long time. The beans were full of meat and flavor. Haven’t had anything this good and authentic in a while. Everything tasted homemade. This will be my go to spot for tacos from now on. You should Defenitely check out this place. The food comes out pretty quick too.
Awesome place! Fantastic food, friendly service, and they got karaoke on Fridays. I gotta come back regardless lol
My new go to taqueria I’m very picky with taco stands and taquerias in Houston this place is the best and best that is closest to me living In downtown. I loved the fajita tacos the tortilla and meat tasted like if I was nearly in Monterey just like the name of the business. Jenifer the woman who served me was great. She made the experience better with her great attitude and personality. Ask for Jenifer. The only thing I wish is this place was open later on Sundays.
The food I got was absolutely delicious. The service wasn't the absolute best but it still was pretty good. The atmosphere got that Mexican-esque house interior which I am familiar with. Overall this place can be considered a hole in the wall it stands out in its own ways with amazing food with good service and atmosphere
This is my favorite authentic Mexican food place in Houston. As a true Latina, I can detect inauthenticity from a mile away and have the judgiest palette when it comes to Mexican food. This place never fails to satisfy! My go to order has to be the 5 bistec taquitos with cilantro, cebolla, grilled onion, side order of fresh cheese, avocado, and last but not least a tecate michelada! Highly recommend this place, I jokingly call myself the taqueria Monterrey brand ambassador since I’m always posting it on my insta story and telling everyone who asks about an authentic Mexican restaurant about it lol.
I love Mexican street food and this place has a lot of the stuff I like (piratas, gringas, campechanas etc.) The trompo meat is great and Good trompo is hard to find in the states. I don’t really come to places like this for the service although the service was not great the staff was friendly. The biggest drawback was the cleanliness of the restaurant. Overall the food is really good and i will be coming back for sure!
I was surprised by the taste, it was a great taqueria! Music WAY too loud though. The rating is for the food, ALMOST gave it 3 stars because I left with a headache from the karaoke singer being SO LOUD! We ALMOST left before we ordered by we asked them to turn it down and they did SOME. STILL was too loud.
The food is always great, but for having good business for years they should have expanded their menu by now. Whatever you order, don't forget fries! They're the best!
Food & Service is good the only complain is if you go on weekends the Music is just way Too Loud!!… when am going with family I want to be able to Hear what we talking and enjoy my Family Time so I prefer to go on weekdays when there is No Live Music…If I want Loud Music will go to a Disco!
Food was great! Could've been spicier though. Waitress gave recommendations and brought food out quickly. No water or drink refills. She never checked back in. The place is a bit dirty and run down but you're mainly there for the food. Great late night spot to go to.
Great little Taqueria a few blocks off of 45 south. It's a simple, straightforward menu that boasts typical taqueria favorites such as trompo, beef fajitas, chicken, carnitas, etc. Some seafood dishes, but I don't eat seafood so I never really pay much attention to those selections. Most dishes are tacos, or meat with rice and beans, soups or enchiladas. I only wished they would serve chips and salsa while you wait, and I wished the menu had just a few more selections as it is certainly pretty slim, at least in my opinion. That being said, the food is still great, fresh, authentic and the service is always great. They do serve alcohol, but I didn't look at the drink menu. I would assume primarily Mexican beers and margaritas and tequila would dominate the drink selection. The pricing is very reasonable and I like the fact they bring you large cups for your drinks so you don't have to constantly ask for refills. The green salsa here is some of the best I've had in the city! Definitely check this little spot out if you're in the area and it'll always be in my rotation for great Mexican food on the south side of town!
We came here on a Friday night 4/14/23 after the Astros game. The food was good the beer was cold but the service from our waitress lacked. Once we got our food she did not check on us.That’s always a problem.
Customer service was great food arrived correct. Tacos consisted of al pastor, bistek, and deshebrada which all tested great, only small complaint the al pastor meat was a little over cooked which made the meat stale. Quesadilla -bistek also good. Overall great food will return.
Good flavor good original REGIO atmosphere. Needs to work with the waitstaff manners. I really prefer to just order to go rather than eating there. But if their prices keep going up I'm done with this place.
Breakfast tacos were okay. Eggs were unseasoned, bacon was scarce and the potatoes lacked flavor. The saving grace was the green salsa in the crack bag that burned like an inferno in the mouth and cleared out the sinuses like a fire sale at Macys.
The food is great, loved the tacos de bistek and the charro beans however, I don’t give it 5 stars for the service. I came in, no one even said anything to me, very unwelcoming. I figured I had to sit myself. They take your order and they sound like they don’t want to be there and they just make you feel so uncomfortable. They have a girl at the front, I said hi and she just looked at me with such a bad facial expression. If they could just improve this aspect I’m sure the overall experience would be up top.
Tacos de Bistek were plentiful with beef. Fresh onions/cilantro. The red salsa had a nice flavor, medium in spice.
The food was good but I’ve never seen a waitress in such a bad mood in my life. My card kept declining and she was trying to imply that I didn’t have any money in my bank account. I didn’t really mind the comment I thought it was funny but she was not able to process my transaction until her manager showed up and got it on the first try so I just wish this place wasn’t so hostile all the time. Torta was freaking awesome and the salsa was good. 3/5 I will come back and see how things are.
First experience today for lunch.. ordered the pastor tacos.. the meat was reheated. As in it was already cooked.. the taste was obvious. Had it been fresh i think i would have liked it. The ambience was nice. I will give it one last try if I'm ever nearby
Service was good, but the food was bad. Fajita had no flavor and our quesadillas were soaking in oil. We had to dry them with napkins. The trompo was a 3 out of 5, and the lemonade and horchata are not natural they're powdered. Probably wont come back.
I just stopped by one day on my way to catch my flight back home. And was somewhat disappointed with the restaurant. It was clean and nice but let's just say more of a place for customers who speak Spanish. I like culture resturants like this but I just felt out of place here this time. I look at the menu and decided to go somewhere else before my flight. I left and went to Gringos resturant on Hwy 45 South near Fuqua and Alemeda Mall. Still if you like authentic Mexican food try Taqueria Monterey Resturant you would enjoy yourself. Have a blessed day to you and your family. GOD BLESS. Mr. K. R. Bishop and family.
Cozy little hole in the wall. Fajita was a bit over salted, but charro beans were great! There are no complimentary chips and salsa, and the service is not the best. The ladies there are nice but don't ask if you need refills 🤷
Okay this location was between 3 and 4 stars. The food was really delicious as to why it would deserve the extra star but the service we had could had been better. The waitress didn't say hello to our family and only checked on us 1 time and we had to flag her down to bring us things. The red cups had a bad odor as if there set to dry and had the smell of outside mixed with Horchata. It was disappointing that this establishment didn't serve chips and salsa which would had been nice but overall the food is great. Next time we will order to go instead of sitting in.
Its was ok ... I dont believe they should b charging 4 dollars for a small 8oz cup of beans ... The taco were average ... But they need to do better on their prices ... Like lowering them ...
I rated this place 3 stars due to the lack of service. When we walked in, the lady at the register didn’t even bother to welcome us in When we were seated, the servers poor attitude was HIGHLY noticeable. In addition, the music was too loud. I asked for a Gordita de fajita and it was DRENCHED in oil. At the end, we asked for a to-go cup with ice. And the server handed us a cup with 6-8 ice cubes in it. (NOT EXAGGERATING) Overall, this was the first and last time I’ll be coming here.
The service was decent, the karaoke lady was the best feature. That being said, the food itself was okay at best. The horchata was made from Klass powder and the tortillas were really dry. Ps, they also charge for extra limes, never knew that was a thing.
Tacos were really good, but on the other hand one of the 'big' waitresses was really moody since we sat down & did NOT want to service us for some reason. She would stare at the wall with this 'bored & annoyed' faced when we asked her for things. Still left a $5 tip though because the food was good. EDIT; went again & same thing with the waitresses, but as always food was good.
I ordered Fajitas and received meat that looked like it had been boiled in water, it also had a strange taste.. I was accompanied by two friends and their food did not look or taste any better. Customer service was Average.. Not a good experience for me..
It’s clean but food is expired. I told waiter that the drink is expired she did not care and said that all drinks had the same date. Server did not care about my comment and I don’t want to get sick so she brought my me another drink. Drink expired in May and we are in June. Came for lunch during break.
DO NOT ATTEMPT!!!! Be ready to pay for every basker of chips they bring to the table!! Horrible salsa!!! Ordered a cranberry and vodka but they used apple juice and wouldn't admit it. Service was very slow and poor. After ordering 3 Michelob, 2 cocktails 1 with an extra shot which was charged at full price of a cocktail, Horchata we ended up paying $45.00!!!!!
The food was terrible. Then we were charged a extra 10.00 on a 9.00 plate because we wanted flour tortillas instead of Corn tortillas and was not told before hand that they were charging extra until the bill came. The waitress was nice but everything else was horrible. Will not be going there to eat again.
The food is fantastic but the service is not . Keep in mind that a party of 4 or more they charge a gratuity fee . Also make sure to double check your receipts before you leave.
This place is definitely over rated for the quality they produce. There waters are disgusting and there salsa doesn't even have flavor. As far as the meat goes it's disappointing, over all my personal experience was not good at all and I personally wouldn't return to this establishment.
This place is overpriced compared to what you are actually getting. Also the chicken tacos are made with shredded chicken and they are dry, feels like you're eating sand. I think it deserves the one star just because the tacos al pastor had good flavor but still too expensive for the MINI taco you get.
I came with my family and they made us pay about $20 on just tip when it was only 6 of us and when we told them to take it off they refused to take it off. Do NOT recommend.
I ordered food to go and they explained to the person that pick up the food that they don’t have chicken instead tacos de bistek ! I understand that but what I got is not even close to what you see on this pictures ! 4 small tacos wrapped in aluminum foil some grilled onions 1 lemon and a small bag of carrots with jalapeños ! NO EVEN A PLATE FOR $9.20 I didn’t get charro beans on nothing ! Really disappointed 😞
Nasty food, and very expensive. Bar tenders have no idea what they are doing. Not even the salsa and chips were good plus you get charged for them and if you ask for extra limes, that's an extra charge. Place charges like a high end restaurant. Dirty place, very small and nasty food
This place only has like 6 things on the menu. No chips, salsa. Expensive food.
I gave this place a try since it’s close to my job. I had passed by it several times and finally went in and ordered the grilled chicken breast plate after asking if they had any daily lunch specials to which I got a “No” answer. I liked the fact that they serve charro beans as an appetizer but was very disappointed with my meal because my chicken breast was very very dry and hard to chew. I didn’t send it back as I was on my short lunch break and wouldn’t have had enough time to wait for another plate. Even though my meal wasn’t what I expected I still gave a generous tip upon paying my bill. As I reached the cashier she said my total was $15.97 but then when she ran my card I was charged $16.53 I didn’t question it as I figured she forgot to maybe add taxes. However after I left I was greeted by the cashier at my vehicle saying she charged my order wrong and that my card payment did not go through. I then pulled out my phone to show her the payment confirmation. She then said “I’ll go review it again.” I said please do, I was then concerned that my meal was charged incorrectly. Bottom line I would not recommend this place to anyone for anything.
They just ran off a frequent customer. I eat here often because I work nearby. The food is decent, but I only eat bean and cheese tacos, avocado, and a side of rice. I had no issues until the new girl who doesn't speak English started working at the front. She was so rude and disrespectful today that I refuse to return to the establishment. Her attitude was due to the fact that we frequently have issues with what she charges me because she LITERALLY charges me something different every time she rings up my order. She's obviously unable to add and unable to communicate in English and chose to disregard my questions because she couldn't answer them. She completely ignored me and had my waiting while she tended to other customers and refused to ask someone to assist me who speaks English. I was on my lunch break, and she kept going back and forth with other staff about the order, but never addressed me and answered my question. I walked out angry and without food. Irefusee to return to deal with a disrespectful and incompetent individual. Ironically she would want to be assisted in Spanish if she were receiving service but refused to respect my request to speak with someone in English since she couldn't.
You would’ve assumed that with the lack of flavor the food has they would decrease the prices instead of increasing them. The waitress barely even welcomed us as we sat down on one of the booths, had a hard time getting adjusted as the seats were sticky as if a child had been there before us and spilled their drink. I found this place due to the rating and decided to give it a try, really wish I would’ve stuck with my gut and gone somewhere else.
Bad costumer service the lady’s were laughing looking at me when I asked her politely for charro beans and she started to give an attitude and also took 45 minutes to give me some charro beans and aggressively put the charro beans across from me , i immediately did not want to eat the charro beans anymore because it looked like there was spit ! Never coming back here again and never recommending this place. And she also decided to charge me more than what I paid for !
Said it closes at 10 pm and it was closed at 2:30pm. Drove almost an hour for nothing. Costumer service deserves a zero
Chips and salsa are a staple at any Mexican restaurant, yet this place charges $4 for them. Instead, they offer complimentary beans with pork—which I don’t eat. When I asked if I could substitute chips instead, they were not accommodating at all. The service was disappointing, and I can see why the place was empty. I would never go back.
The food is mid but the service is terrible! I went not too long ago with my husband, not our first time there and although they lack of good customer service the food was good the times we went before, when we got there it seemed like someone was celebrating their birthday but there was plenty I mean PLENTY of empty tables we ordered some drinks, they gave us charro beans my husband ordered but I wasn’t ready so I said give me 5 more minutes please the lady said “i thought you were ready to order I am serving this big table too” which honestly bothered me cause is not the customers fault you guys are understaffed, we wanted chips and salsa and another waitress brought them and when we tried the salsa it wasn’t good it was like if they mixed ketchup or tomato sauce with some type of bottled hot sauce and the chips were also like no thank you so we’re trying to send it back cause we didn’t like it and the waitress gets mad and says “didn’t you order this? You already ordered it” I was like yes ma’am but I’m not gonna eat it if is not good, and she rolled her eyes at me,one more thing, there was cilantro in my drink!!!!! And my food didn’t have cilantro!!!! Like bruh!!! I couldn’t even complain about the cilantro because they only went to check on us 3 or 4 times and only because we literally waved at them multiple times to get their attention:(
The customer service here is terrible from both employees and management. We ordered the fajitas and they were chewy and rough- basically not edible and felt like old meat. All of the other food was fine for the most part. When we got their attention to let them know about the dish we were told "That's the most expensive dish." We did not get attention to resolve the issue, an offer to make the plate again or replace it. We were aware of the cost when we ordered and were happy to pay for what was ordered but that was not what we received. They didn't take it away or inspect it either until we asked them to. I encourage folks looking for better customer service to visit elsewhere this place is lacking. They ended up taking it off our ticket eventually but the approach overall left a very bad experience.
