Opinions de J Bar M Barbecue Houston
This is by far the best bbq I have ever had. The prices are a bit high, but you get what you pay for. Other bbq places are just as pricey but the quality of the food is much lower. Here, the food is fantastic, you get a lot, and there’s a large menu. I got the turkey plate, with brussel sprouts and Mac, all of it is 10/10. My partner got the brisket and sausage plate with Mac and corn salad, and he says it’s 10/10. Everything is so so good. We will definitely be coming back. Especially because they have $5 margaritas ALL DAY! The owner is super friendly, and the staff are very kind and efficient. Just the whole experience is 100/10. You can immediately tell why they are mentioned by the Michelin Guide.
Literally the best BBQ I’ve ever had in my life. The sides were also amazing. The Michelin star was well deserved!
We had a great lunch at J-Bar-M. The meat was super tender and the sides were very tasty. The staff was friendly and informative. I will definitely go back and would highly recommend it.
Visited this BBQ restaurant recently and ordered their pulled pork tacos. It came with rice and beans and was reasonably priced. They were very good tacos. Large place and very comfortable.
I loved everything about J-Bar-M! The atmosphere is fantastic and the staff couldn't be better. Now to the main event, the food is incredible. The meat is tender and delicious and the wide assortment of sides will please everyone. You must see this place to understand what I'm talking about. You get to enjoy eating inside which is beautiful or the outdoors which is equally amazing. Did I mention the outdoor stage and the great line up of musical artists? You really should check it out, you can thank me later. Twinkle
This weekend My wife and I went down to visit my daughter, her husband in the grand kids in Houston. Knowing how much I like really good barbecue they took me to the J bar M, a place that they often go too. Well to say I was impressed is an understatement, the J bar M is very diverse. From casual dining both indoor and out, also with a stage for live music, up to a beautifully refined "Michelin Star" elegant dining room, fancily set for any event personal or company oriented. There is also a wall of celebrity photographs you should checkout. You'd be surprised at who has dropped by for some really good BBQ! The staff was not only friendly but helpful too, they treated us like family. Our grandchildren were there with us and it was very family oriented. The food was unbelievably delicious, you can always tell when someone knows how to cook really good BBQ, there is o doubt in your mind when you taste it. I had the ribs and they were smokey flavored and I thought it was the best Being a grandfather I usually offer to pick up the check when we are out with the family, this time I was pleasantly surprised so I left a better tip than I thought I was going to. Stop in and try it out yourself, you will no doubt enjoy yourself. Mark Schwend. Wimberley, TX.
This restaurant was super easy for us to get to, and the atmosphere was top-tier—relaxed, laid back, and welcoming. We loved the patio area and the open space to kick back and watch the games on the TVs. Now the food… absolutely delicious 😋. Hands down some amazing BBQ—this is a must-try spot if you’re a BBQ fan. We also had the pleasure of meeting the owner and the GM, and they were both absolutely fabulous and welcoming, which made the experience even better. Thank you all for taking such great care of Team O’Reilly. We’ll definitely be back!
Ordered the banana pudding and apple cobbler! Always amazing! My family comes here often - had my daughter birthday party here - great food - great people- great service. It’s like the TV show cheers - everyone knows our name! Hoffie is my guy ! Cheers - Happy Thanksgiving Be in soon for more ribs!!!
This restaurant was easy to get to for us. Atmosphere is awesome relaxed laid back, has the patio area which is dog friendly how cool. Enough space to watch the games on the tvs. The Food what else can I say but delicious 😋 . If you want amazing BBQ this is a must place to try! Definitely going back.
This place was amazing and I loved everything about it. The people who worked there were so nice and helpful from the time we arrived. There were so many selections that it was hard to decide. Arash and Steve really made me feel so appreciated as a customer. There was plenty of space for us to sit inside and out. I enjoyed the food and drinks and I will definitely be back
I got stranded for 36 hours in Houston after my flight got canceled and decided to make the most of my time in the city. My friend sent me a list on TikTok of the best BBQ spots in Houston and J-Bar-M came up. Of course I wasn’t leaving Houston without trying true Texas BBQ. I ordered the one meat platter for $25 which came with two sides. The brisket was absolutely delicious - it melted in my mouth. I also loved the sugary Brussel sprouts. I had a warm brownie for dessert, which was spectacular - don’t skip the dessert options. I’ve already been recommending this BBQ spot to my friends back in NYC incase they somehow find themselves in Houston one day. I’m so glad I left the airport hotel and ventured into the city.
I don’t get over nearly enough. It is great barbecue. Great brisket, tacos, sausage, sides. One of my default ten places that I take visitors to, in order to introduce them to the width and breadth of the Houston culinary scene. Highly recommended . Most recent visit included an event. A book signing for Chef Arnie’s new barbecue book.
J Bar M catered a private lunch meeting for me. They made the ordering process very easy and provide provided exceptional customer service. Food was delivered on time and well packaged. The food was exceptional, and everyone commented on how delicious it was. Fan favorites were the brisket and the tacos. I’ve also dined in at J Bar M on several occasions and never had a bad meal. Highly recommend.
Outstanding experience. It’s not just the amazing food, it’s the cleanliness of the store. It’s the attitude of the employees, the beautiful environment or organization. I could keep on and on. Food - it’s hard to pick a favorite- we especially loved - ribs, sausage, brisket and chicken. Absolutely nothing needed sauce. And the sauce was addictive. If you like heat - try the Boerne sauces. For sides- macaroni, Brussels Sprouts, potato salad were all tasty. Not so secret ingredient- love. The floor staff was on it - and kept tables and chairs immaculately clean. I loved the fresh flowers. Plenty of room inside and outside for huge parties. The bar specials seemed too good to be true. The bar manager visited with us briefly and shared live music on Saturday nights and Sunday during brunch. They close Sunday evening. Wednesday is burger night Thursday is steak night Friday. They have fried shrimp and fish. There’s also a brunch on Saturday. An amazing space outside.
Great night. Food was delicious 😋 Drinks were on point & The company made it even better Shout out to Audi (sorry if I didn't spell your name right) the most amazing drink connoisseur ever. Definitely going to have to do a repeat soon.
The brunch chicken and waffles were absolutely amazing! I thoroughly enjoyed them. Their brisket was not as good, but did the job!
After much online buzz, I finally had the opportunity to try this place out. The first impression was a pleasant one—the spacious interior and ample seating capacity made it a comfortable dining experience. I opted for the 3-meat combo with 5 sides, while my wife chose the smoked wings with a side of bonnet sauce. The sauce was absolutely spectacular, but for some reason, she didn’t enjoy the wings. She claimed they were undercooked. On the other hand, my brisket was a bit dry, and the ribs were decent but not exceptionally tender. However, the jalapeño and cheddar sausage was an absolute standout—the best I’ve ever had. The corn and Brussels sprouts were also good, but the charro beans and mac and cheese were a major letdown. They lacked flavor entirely. The green beans were decent, but my wife and I both felt they were missing something—perhaps a bit of salt. To end the meal on a sweet note, we indulged in funnel cake fries. They were incredibly good—a simple yet addictive treat. Overall, I was disappointed that the experience didn’t live up to the hype and the Michelin star expectations.
Popped in here on a Sunday during brunch. Just a heads up you are not restricted to ordering brunch but we chose the brunch menu. We ordered the breakfast burger (which egg on it) and the chilaquiles with brisket. Everything was decent but I would need to go back on another day an order from the regular menu to give the food a fair rating. But I would definitely go back. The star of the day was the cinnamon rolls!!! They were so soft and we didn’t even heat them up. So yummy!!! Oh and the mimosa!!! Normally at establishments they bring you a carafe but NOPE we got TWO FULL BOTTLES!!! Yassss Definitely stop in and they are a Michelin recommended!!
Came with my husband for lunch and was excited to see they served brunch as well! The building did have limited parking, we think they may have been having a private event later that day. The restaurant itself is beautiful on the inside, its a large open building with very clean decor. They have indoor and outdoor seating perfect for a date or taking a large group. The staff was super friendly and the food comes out pretty quickly if you are ordering food that does not come right off the bbq line. My husband really enjoyed the brisket, cheddar jalapeño sausage, Mac n cheese and corn. He said the sausage had a great spicy kick and the corn had lots of flavor. The brisket chilaquiles was DELICIOUS! The salsa verde was rich and flavorful and the chips were fresh and crispy. We look forward to coming back to try more of the menu.
First time. We ordered the brisket tacos, brisket enchiladas & the jalapeño cheese link. We really liked all of it with the exception of the rice & beans that came on the side of both entrees. They weren't horrible but also weren't very flavorful. But it's ok because the brisket & sausage made up for it. Great portions for the price as well.
Went on a Tuesday afternoon and it was surprisingly not busy. After seeing the prices, I could probably guess why. The food was very good overall, but it was expensive, almost $100 for 2 meals with desserts, and no drinks, only water. The decor was very stylish, clean, and spacious during our visit. The brisket, chicken and potato salad were the highlights of our meal. The sauce was also delicious. I didn't like that we had to go back to the counter and ask for slices of bread; it should've been asked when we ordered at first, as well as pickles and onions. Also, my food seemed to get cold quickly, it needed to be reheated. Flies were also a problem, although we were seated inside. The service is cafeteria style and you seat yourself after ordering. The Hispanic gentleman that cleaned our tables was very kind, he made sure we had everything we needed for our leftovers. The parking lot was was well paved with ample parking. I would revisit here, it's solid bbq with good portion sizes. 4.5 stars.
The place was ok. Honestly over hyped. Drove for 45 minutes to come eat dry brisket. Elote and beans were good, however, Mac n cheese was flavorless . I don’t think I would be coming here again
Had not really heard of this spot but got invited for lunch. Now I'm from Texas with a PHD in tasting BBQ. Now I saw the Michellin Reviewed but that means nothing to me. The Good:. Atmosphere is cool , really like the ambiance of the spot , lots of space and clean. Service was great, no complaints..... Prices are ok , every restaurant has gone up in prices these days so won't comment on that. Sides were good , Brussel Sprouts were banging , Mexican corn was a hit ....... Meat was average The Bad, wasn't feeling the BBQ sauce. Just didn't have any kick to it. Meat was a little dry, even with the moist brisket I was still drowning it in sauce , the ribs were nice, tender but again a little dry...... I think they still have a little work to do with the technique but they off to a good start
Michelin Stars in Houston?? Nice! Added to the list of Michelin Star so I had to go and try it. It was good. Better than Rudy's. The BBQ sauce was spicy and I did not like the brussel sprouts. I did enjoy the brisket. The ambiance was nice and relaxed. T They had a live band and the girl was a great singer.
Let me just start off by saying the food was pretty darn good except for desserts. We had the moist brisket and pork ribs. The guy cutting the meats was super nice and friendly. For desserts, we had a cinnamon roll, which was huge for $12! Unfortunately we didn't like it. Mostly dry bread. Also had bread pudding that comes with a nice scoop of ice cream, but that also didn't quite hit the spot. My biggest issue with this experience was the bar. Drinks have to be ordered at the bar separately from the food. It was Sunday, and they had bottomless mimosa for $16 per person, but after standing at the bar for 10 minutes without our order taken, we went back to our to find our food already starting to get cold. We were about 50% done when the guy who had been waiting behind us to order beer was finally getting his order!! This place is way too big to have one bartender serving both indoor and outdoor areas!! The place was busy, and we were not the only ones who gave up on the drinks. If you are going to sit outside, be prepared for loud music! If I decide to go back, I would send half the group to order drinks while the other half orders the food.
I really wanted to like this place, but I must have came on a bad day. The brisket was super dry. If you look at my pictures you can see how dry it was, very disappointed because I love brisket. The sausage was extremely greasy. I will say the sides were good. The mac n cheese, green beans, and corn were all very good. Would not recommend the rice. I also had to ask the cashier for pickles, onions, and bread. The bread btw seemed old because it was stale. The owner seemed friendly, but I'd probably prefer other BBQ spots in Houston. Overall $60 for two 2 meat plates.
Not sure what the deal was but definitely feeling like I got fleeced today. Showed up about an hour before closing (maybe this was the problem) and ordered the Lil Pony to go (1/2lb brisket, 1/2lb pork ribs, 1 half chicken, house made sausage, 2 sides, and chips and queso). Granted they didn't have chips and queso so they hooked it up with extra sides. But not what I expected $140+ of BBQ would look like. Main problem I had was the box that looks to be just shredded pork? The 1/2lb pork ribs seemed to also be missing? Don't think they mentioned they were also out of the pork ribs so a bit confused here. Honestly I was too annoyed to call/drive back so just gonna take the L but yeah don't think I'll be going back to this place any time soon.
I traveled all the way from Mississippi to try J Bar M BBQ after it was recommended by my brother’s friend. The food smelled amazing, so I was excited and ready to chow down. Unfortunately, that excitement didn’t last long. The moment I saw my brisket, my smile turned into a frown. I tried to give it the benefit of the doubt—told myself maybe my eyes were deceiving me—but one bite confirmed the truth. That brisket was dry. And not just “a little dry”… I’m talking three-business-days-of-chewing dry. I thought the mac and cheese might save the meal, but nope. Instead of the creamy, cheesy heaven I was expecting, it tasted like a mix of powder and watery disappointment. Sadly, this was not the experience I was hoping for, and I won’t be coming back.
I don’t hand out 1 star reviews lightly, but with my experience, J-Bar-M more than earned it. I arrived around 1:45pm to a restaurant that was nearly empty. Already we’re off to a bad start. As I walk up to the ordering counter, a large party is exiting a private side room. I must have gotten lost in the shuffle, because as I let people pass, I see all the workers leave to go behind the kitchen. I’m not sure if it was a staff meeting or shift change, but I can’t find anyone to help me. I wait about 3-5 minutes before a young man pops his head around the corner and apologizes for keeping me waiting. I order a couple of ribs and the fatty brisket tacos (hoping for anything in the same universe as the now closed Valentina’s), with sides of cream corn, Mac n cheese, and charro beans. The ribs actually tasted decent, slightly sweet with a good pull and texture, except they were cold. I’m talking not even lukewarm. And just like Luke, these babies also could have used a tauntaun to warm them up. Things only went downhill from there. The Mac n cheese was nothing to write home about and the cream corn was bland. After a few minutes, the brisket tacos were delivered to my table. By now I’m barreling down a double black diamond. The brisket is dry, tough, and most sinfully, flavorless. How flavorless? Well, I can’t taste the brisket over the tortilla, which also doesn’t taste great. How does a tortilla over power the flavor of smoked brisket?? Finally, I attempted to change it up for my taste buds by trying the charro beans. This was a fine test for my gag reflex as the beans were rancid/burned and I nearly spit them out. How this place ended up on Michelin’s radar is beyond me. J Bar M was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had, Bar None
